Replacing a bathroom door in a Khrushchev building. Bathroom renovation in Khrushchev. Renovation work in the bathroom

The bathroom is an excellent place for rest and relaxation during water procedures, but in Khrushchev-era buildings the architects limited this room in square footage. This is no more than 2.5 sq.m. with separate bathrooms and 3.5 sq.m. – in combined. Innovate or create original design bathroom in Khrushchev - the main task during renovation, it is desirable to expand the functionality. Experts suggest taking a different look at solving the issue - removing all unnecessary things and replacing bulky contents with compact items.

Instead of a bathtub, you can install a shower stall, it takes up less space

During the times of mass construction, the goal was to provide separate housing for every Soviet family, which is good, but they did not take care of convenience. The sizes of the hallway, corridors, bathrooms and kitchens range from 2 to 4-5 “squares”, on which you need to place household appliances and plumbing, but there is nowhere to turn around. No one thought about the interior of a bathroom in Khrushchev, white tiles were the ultimate dream.

The narrow toilet of the Khrushchev buildings was not designed for an obese person - it was difficult to even squeeze in there. Another room for sanitary procedures contained only a bathtub and washbasin without a modern washing machine. It is for the sake of it and sanitary ware that today they are expanding the area, as well as with the goal of somehow getting rid of the feeling of crampedness and inconvenience. The main mistake is to replace only the old containers with new ones, and leave the rest as is, citing lack of space.

You should not start renovations without radically reorganizing the space if you want to expand the room for hygiene procedures. It is impossible to completely solve the problem unless you start demolishing the walls, and redevelopment requires permission from the city authorities and a bunch of documents with signatures. Demolition of even secondary walls in old houses risks the collapse of an entire entrance, so there are problems with documentation and accident rates. And the costs involved are considerable. You will have to replace the plumbing fixtures with the most compact models and limit yourself to cosmetic repairs.

The washing machine should be placed under the sink to save space

A washing machine under the sink will save a lot of space.

The second way is to reorganize the bathroom. The modern design of a small bathroom in Khrushchev (without radical transformation and restructuring) will cost less. The main goal is to free up passages and use the wall area to the maximum. In those days, activator-type machines were placed next to a rectangular container that was inconvenient for bathing, occupying almost the entire aisle. Today there is a choice in favor of compact forms - the washing unit can be placed in different ways, even to the point of being placed in the corridor or toilet (behind the tank).

Advice. Don't rush to buy, look in the catalogs modern models plumbing and washing machines. Foreign and domestic producers offer a lot of interesting solutions for bathrooms small area. They have an excellent design and thoughtful shape; you can choose them to suit any interior style.

Original methods for solving the problem of small area

A good way to get by without construction work– limit ourselves to changing the design of the bathroom in Khrushchev-era buildings. For example, a corner bath or compact jacuzzi will free up some space for the passage and washing machine. Place a toilet and washbasin of the same corner shape near the corner bath.

The designers also propose repurposing the toilet room as a washing unit with a machine, equipping it with taps and a sink, a hanging shower and a drain grate in the floor. In the mornings, this is also an additional washbasin; if necessary in the heat, a second shower. IN next room There will remain a full-fledged tank for taking baths of a compact shape, a toilet and a sink.

Removing the partition between the toilet and the bathroom cannot radically solve the problem of expanding the area, but it will be easier to move, so this method many followers. But in large families this creates a new discomfort – queues in the morning. Some people decide to move the washbasin to the side in a narrow room or install a rotating model by placing a second toilet.

In a small bathroom you can combine a shower

Design options for a bathroom in Khrushchev with the replacement of a bulky tank with a shower stall with a deep tray, in which they wash and bathe while sitting, are also good. Triangular bathtubs with Jacuzzi functions are another way to optimize space. This is maximum comfort and relaxation for small area. There are even mini-pools with a podium on sale that will fit into a Khrushchev-era bathroom. But, apart from this podium and a couple of steps right from the threshold, nothing else will fit there.

Don’t try to carry everything possible into a narrow 2.5 square meter room. This will not add comfort even in beautiful interior. It is better to limit yourself to choosing one thing - a bathtub or a shower; choose a compact washbasin on a leg or a wall-hung model coming out of the wall. For more freedom washing machine sometimes they take it to another place.

The design of a small bathroom should be thought through to the smallest detail.

To save space, the washing machine can be placed under the sink

Although there is also not enough space in these rooms, it all depends on the overall load on their functionality. Some people have nothing in the hallway except a hanger and a shelf, and the “washing machine” serves as a table near the mirror, covered with a tablecloth, between uses.

The machine doesn’t get in the way under a wide sink or washbasin either:

  • in the kitchen;
  • in the bathroom;
  • in a shared bathroom.

When moving plumbing, you will have to face one problem - building up the pipeline for supplying communications. Wiring water pipes away from the main riser, it is better to entrust them to specialists who can hide them in the wall or floor. This will save as much space as possible in the aisles without distorting the updated interior of the bathroom in the Khrushchev-era building.

Additional ways to expand the Khrushchev bathroom

After making the decision to choose a method for reorganizing the bathroom area, it is worth taking into account methods for visually expanding the space.

  • under the bath;
  • on shelves;
  • on the corners;
  • in a wall cabinet or bathroom cabinet.
  1. It is advisable that all small items be concentrated in one place or on one wall. Choose everything in the same range - the feeling of rippling or variegation visually fragments the space even in a relatively free room. Today there are no problems choosing shampoos, towels and toilet paper for a bathroom with colored sanitary ware.
  2. If you like it tile cladding with a pattern, use it on the floor, on the walls – in fragments:

  1. Mirror walls and surfaces – The best way visual expansion rooms. The design of a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building does not exclude this option, but remember that the mirrors fog up a lot. Especially a lot of condensation forms on mirror glass, if there is no normal ventilation and the walls are cold. It is important to take care of proper insulation and ventilation of a narrow room.
  2. The traditional way to visually expand the walls and raise the ceiling is to use narrow vertical and horizontal stripes. A mosaic panel above the bathtub (or on another free wall) will also expand the room if the contours of the picture are blurred and the limits of the image seem to be scattered in space. You can use a special mosaic tiles, broken tiles or small glass. Large fragments and large-scale patterns eat up space.
  3. It is better to lay tiles on the floor diagonally (diamonds), this method will also visually increase the area of the room. It is not advisable to use the “checkerboard” principle; this is a solution for a large space.
  4. A patterned floor layout or a mosaic rosette in the center will improve the overall impression, the bath will appear wider, and the finish will appear more expensive. This is profitable; in any construction supermarket, the remains of the collection (several pieces, discarded with minor defects) cost almost half as much, even marble.

Attention! For safety reasons, choose only a rough texture for the floor to avoid slipping with wet feet.

  5. The latest trend for small spaces is wall-hung sanitaryware, which expands the open floor space. This is especially true for diagonal and “seamless” laying of porcelain stoneware without a chamfer.
  6. Self-leveling floors for narrow room– not an option for any design, they are slippery and hide space.
  7. If there is nowhere else to place mirrors, which are also used to expand the space, use doors and wings of wall cabinets.

Corner bath will save a lot of space

To save space, you can install small cabinets

Remember! It is necessary to purchase only specialized furniture and mirrors for bathrooms that do not deteriorate from excess humidity. By the way, sliding doors are better than hinged ones - you don’t need to step back when opening them in a narrow room.

Choosing a design style

Today, the uncertainty of a stylistic decision in interior design is bad manners, especially since the catalogs always indicate what style the furniture or plumbing fixtures are intended for.

Renovating Khrushchev's apartments does not at all mean abandoning the style decision. There are many examples when a small bathroom was chosen for decoration.

  1. Japanese minimalism with the characteristic decorativeness of Asian exoticism.
  2. Fusion, born at the junction of several modern styles, amazing and original forms plumbing and soft glow of local lighting diodes.
  3. Eco-style, with its natural forms and materials.
  4. Modern, distinguished by graceful outlines, asymmetry and curved glass.
  5. High-tech in all its splendor with chrome surfaces and urban forms.
  6. Conservative minimalism, with which there are no problems in narrow room, only functional items without decorative frills.
  7. Loft – with brickwork instead of classic tiling in the bathroom for Khrushchev design.
  8. Empire, antiquity, renaissance or other historical styles, with their exquisite elegance of forms in white porcelain, marble or other imitation stone, as in the photo.

In small bathrooms, the arrangement of furniture should be thought out in advance.

A bathroom in red will look beautiful and unusual

Light bathroom design with wood imitation

With all the sophistication of such design projects, it seems unrealistic to transfer such a bathroom design idea into your Khrushchev-era apartment. But nothing is impossible if you use such plumbing and facing materials. Don’t try to copy exactly, adapt it to your own conditions, trying to convey the feeling of perceiving such decor. Don't forget about compact plumbing fixtures and light-colored cladding. We offer some more inspiring examples from our photo gallery.

Repairs are different from repairs, and repairs in a Khrushchev building should not be budgetary anyway. And the result should be pleasant to the eye and to the touch. I came across just such a repair option on a well-known website. Well, as you already understand, I could not bypass this post and not duplicate it on this site with my comments. Looking ahead, I will say that this repair is not an indicator, but it can definitely be taken as a basis; it has its pros and cons, but more on them below.

A little background on the renovation: the bathroom was chosen as the first room for renovation, because no matter what you say, throughout the entire renovation the bathroom will be needed and you can’t go anywhere without it... And another reason was the announcement of the sale of a large and new corner bathtub 150*150 for only 4000 rubles. It was decided to purchase this miracle and expand the bathroom to fit the size of the bathtub. Perhaps this is not the best The best decision, because the size of the bathroom is not large and you could get by with a small bathtub or even a shower stall, but Khrushchev is already small, and with such a bathroom you can spend another hour like a master...

Another important point is that this repair was not done by a professional and for the first time, so we can conditionally say that such a repair is available to each of you, my dear reader!

Also pay attention to the pipes. Before starting repairs, it is imperative to replace it with plastic, or better yet, with metal-plastic, if this has not already been done. Pipes are the backbone of the bathroom and they must be made and done well.

Not a lot, not a little, was spent on the entire renovation - 60 thousand rubles.

So let's go!

This is what the bathroom looked like before the renovation

The plan of what was taken as a basis is the main diagram of the entire repair

Now let's move on to the process itself, step by step and with pictures. Let's start with the basics, i.e. floor - replacement of screed. This is what she was like:

Of course, such a floor is no good and we need a good foundation - fill it with:

The base of the floor is ready, let's move on to the base of the walls. Making a frame for the shelves:

The quality of my work is checked with an open eye, or rather four, but how can we do without it?

Everything has been checked and you can move on to another wall - glue the tiles.

After the bathtub is installed on the frame. We continue to work with the floor and install a heat cable - we make a warm floor.

Filling the cable

All the basics are ready, now let's move on to the design. And we start as usual from the floor. It was decided to make pebbles for the floor.

After the work, the inspection came again and approved the work with its seal. By the way, we bought stones for the floor in Yekateinburg, by weight. It took 50 kg. I glued it with Bergauf Ceramik Pro glue.

I install it directly above the washing machine. Saving space is everything, especially with a bathroom like this! All plumbing, including pipes and cords from the washing machine, are hidden in the frame.

Let's finish off the rest of the little things called baseboards for the bathroom:

Everything below the ceiling is almost ready, so we need to make the ceiling. The ceiling will be made of ordinary plastic panels:

We leave access to the power supply for the main and electrodiode lights in the ceiling; to do this, leave a hole and cover it with plastic:

We also install curtain rods. Since the bathroom is semicircular, a flexible cornice is needed, which was purchased and installed:

Now we are finishing the shelves, which in fact caused much more problems than expected:

And the last, if I may say so, touch is a cabinet, where it is used as a panel furniture board, treated with 6 layers of stain and 4 layers of varnish:

And this is the result of the entire repair - everyone was happy and yes - not a single cat was harmed :)

Some notes on actual use:

  1. In the first days, I didn’t really like the floor, it was ugly, although warm. I also thought about how it would be cleaned. In fact, I can say this: we were happy with this floor. The cable is always on and the stones are always warm. Weekly cleaning with a vacuum cleaner and a couple of times a month with a rag does not cause any problems. No floor mats are needed. No fungi or mold were found after a year - don’t forget about ventilation, it pulls everything out.
  2. The water supply, sewerage outlet and socket are located behind the washing machine.
  3. Wall-hung toilet, .
  4. Prices: bath - 4000 rubles, installation - 5000 rubles, toilet - 1250 rubles, sink - 2000 rubles, tiles - 18000 rubles, ceiling tiles— 200 rub. I don't remember the rest...
  5. Footage of the room: it was 1.6 x 1.6, it was 2.3 x 1.6.

Constructive criticism:

  1. The bathroom takes up a lot of space. A regular-shaped bathroom might have been better suited, or even a shower stall.
  2. Installation for shelves removes 20 cm from the wall - not very effective.
  3. The floor turned out to be an acquired taste, perhaps it needs to be filled with self-leveling flooring - it should turn out beautifully.
  4. There is no heated towel rail - an unpleasant detail.
  5. The faucet is milked over the head of one of the places in the bathroom - this is not very convenient, although this has its advantages - when you bathe, the tap is at hand and you can even water from it... The bathroom place is not eaten up, the faucet can be easily bent.

For dessert: how to train a cat to go to the toilet?

Remove the cat litter box and insert a liner into the toilet instead. The hole in the liner must be gradually enlarged until the liner is no longer needed:

Any renovation in Khrushchev-era apartments (and the bathroom is no exception) is a very responsible undertaking that will require from you, in addition to taste, rational thinking. Typically, bathrooms in apartments of this type have an area of no more than 5 square meters, and even have a not very convenient layout.

All this makes it very difficult for a non-professional to renovate a bathroom with his own hands.

The small area of the bathroom also complicates the process of selecting and arranging plumbing fixtures and furniture. Installing a washing machine is often not discussed at all.

However, not everything is so sad, and even in a small bathroom you can create a cozy interior if you try hard.

Complex design of a beautiful bathroom in a small Khrushchev building

Choosing a style for renovation

When thinking about decorating a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building, do not forget about the design of the entire apartment. For example, a high-tech bathroom will look alien in an apartment with a classic interior, despite the fact that it itself will be very comfortable and beautiful. Here it would be more appropriate to use elements of classical design and natural materials - a wooden cabinet or shelf, gilded sconces near the mirror, marble panels.

The sewer riser can be designed as a marble column, and the washbasin can be replaced with a ceramic or porcelain bowl standing on a countertop made of artificial or natural stone. However, one should not forget that classic design- this is, first of all, luxury and elegance, so a small room should not be overloaded with decorative elements. For examples of design styles, you need to refer to the photos on our website and on the Internet to choose the direction you like.

Photo of a bathroom with a washing machine under the sink and bathtub

Country style for non-professionals is the most successful, as it implies extraordinary simplicity and closeness to nature. Pebbles, driftwood, natural fabrics and rough crafts can replace most finishing materials and decorative elements.

It is also better to choose the design of the bathtub in accordance with the chosen style - a free-standing bathtub with curly legs will decorate both a classic and country-style bathroom. If it is standard, you can simply add some characteristic detail, for example, the standard front panel can be replaced with a roughly painted wooden one or even a curtain made of canvas or linen.

A bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building in the style of minimalism, at first glance, seems to be the simplest and easiest to renovate. Indeed, nothing superfluous is allowed here, and all structures have their own functional purpose. But it’s enough to remember that the origins of minimalism are the Japanese style, which has been developing its own rules for thousands of years.

Impeccable lines of surfaces and many other nuances create an elusive play of this style, and any mistake turns such an interior into empty and uninteresting. Small details create this simple style. However, a competent bathroom design in the style of minimalism is perfectly suited for Khrushchev - inner space such premises visually expand, and its functionality surpasses any other interior options.

Before choosing new plumbing fixtures and bathroom furniture in a Khrushchev-era building, it is necessary to determine the minimum that should really be in the bathroom. After all, many people, if they have a bathtub, are ready to give up a washbasin in order to put a washing machine there, or, on the contrary, exchange it for a compact shower. In any case, if there is a shortage of space, you should not place it in the bathroom. bulky cabinets for storing things or trying to equip it with all the known plumbing fixtures right up to the bidet.

Even the most modest size and area of a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building allows you to place a minimum set of items in it - a washbasin, a toilet, a small storage cabinet detergents, place for swimming. The shower stall in Khrushchev is generally very popular.

Angled and asymmetrical fixtures and furniture are the best ways to organize the space of a tiny bathroom. For example, an asymmetrical hydromassage bathtub with a volume of 300 liters fits quite well in a small bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building, because its length is only 150 cm and its width is 51 cm and 96 cm. It is important to plan such moments in advance during renovation.

Minimalism at its finest. Photo of real repair

Can be used above the washing machine, toilet and door vertical space walls Hanging cabinets and shelves should not be very deep (up to 25-30 cm), otherwise they will visually clutter the bathroom space. The same rule applies to the washbasin cabinet, and it is better to avoid shelves above a small sink altogether, since bending over the sink to shave or wash in this case will be very inconvenient.

Color solution

Many bathroom design projects are carried out in light pastel colors, which visually expand the space and make it airy and weightless.

Combined bathroom in light colors

Wherein White color It can be basic or additional both in finishing materials for repairs, and in furniture or plumbing fixtures. Light pistachio and lemon colors of patterns on the wall or furniture fronts give the bathroom an extraordinary freshness. Delicate cream or peach shades create a special coziness, while traditional blue makes the room cool.

Often a bathroom renovation involves installing an acrylic insert, and the color of the new border must be matched to the color of the enamel or acrylic material. It is generally better to abandon horizontal borders and patterns in a small bathroom in favor of vertical stripes or patterns. The use of two or three colors that harmonize with each other is quite enough to create coziness in a small bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building.

In order for the renovation of a combined bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building to produce concrete results, a complete redevelopment of the premises is often required, which, of course, is quite expensive and troublesome.

  1. Area: when we hear the concept of “Khrushchev”, the first association that comes to mind is a minimum of space. Of course, the option of a combined toilet and bathroom is much more pleasant, but such happiness does not happen in every Khrushchev building.
  2. Communications: renovation of a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building today requires a global redevelopment, because only in this case can expansion and increase in space be achieved. However, such a plan is most often hampered by laid communications, because they tie plumbing to specific places, which is not always beneficial for changing a room. In addition, during the renovation of the bathroom, an unplanned need may arise to replace communications or wiring, which is quite expensive.
  3. Uneven surfaces: one of the main problems of Khrushchev's houses was rather rough and uneven walls. As a rule, when renovating a Khrushchev bathroom, you have to level both the walls and the floor, which is quite expensive and takes a lot of time. It should also be taken into account that when leveling, mortar and putty are used, which take up a considerable layer, and reducing the space does not have the best effect on the bathroom area.

Similar difficulties are encountered on the path of any renovation, and even more so in the bathroom of a Khrushchev house. However, any troubles can be solved; the main thing is to think everything through in advance.

Planning

Renovating a bathroom in Khrushchev, like renovating a bathroom, requires detailed plan, because otherwise any little thing can spoil and complicate your actions. A preliminary plan will help to properly organize the space, increase usable area, put all the little things in their places.

Such a project involves the arrangement of furniture, plumbing, electrical appliances and even little things like a laundry basket and toothbrush holders.

Consider the finishing options and its shades, because later it will be difficult to change anything.
The plan will help organize the already meager bathroom space functionally and attractively.

Description: Bathroom design in Khrushchev. TOP 15 bathroom design options.

In this slideshow I chose best options of what renovation should look like in a small bathroom that contains both a bathtub and a toilet.

Often we are faced with a situation where, when we think about how to change the decor in the bathroom, nothing comes to mind due to limited room for maneuver.

Photo of a water heater in a bathroom interior

Despite the general opinion of designers from every corner of the world, today even a child knows that a full bath takes up a lot of space. An advisable solution would be to replace the bathtub with a shower stall or at least a corner bowl. If we exclude drastic options with redevelopment, combination with a bathroom and removal of the wall, the most painless choice would be such a replacement.

Pros of a shower cabin:

  1. the amount of water consumed is reduced by 5-6 times,
  2. the free space will be much larger,
  3. creates space for a washing machine or laundry basket.

It is worth noting that replacing plumbing fixtures is quite simple with your own hands. A new shower stall is a bit expensive, but the cost will be worth it when you see your bathroom feeling spacious and comfortable.

  • Renovating a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building will be functional and reasonable if the USSR-style plumbing is replaced with modern design options. Consider the idea wall hung toilet: when the cistern is hidden in the wall and the floor under the structure is free, the room seems quite spacious. The installation is quite durable and can withstand weight up to 200 kg.
  • Repairing a bathtub in a Khrushchev-era building will also affect the sink. The radical method involves completely removing the sink and using the faucet above the bathtub as a washbasin. Not everyone likes this option, so it’s better to get by with a modern hanging model. A free floor has the best effect on a spacious room.
  • Communications must be hidden, for which use a plasterboard box. Not a single toilet renovation in a Khrushchev building can be completed without this solution. In any room of the Khrushchev house, it is beneficial to use such an idea as additional shelves for bathroom accessories.
  • Of course, a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building is unlikely to accommodate a washing machine, but it’s not the best place to huddle in the kitchen. good idea. The device can be installed under a wall-mounted washbasin, next to a new shower stall, near a narrow corner of a triangular bathtub, or even make a special niche in the room. However, keep in mind that the location of the washing machine needs to be thought out in advance.

By following these tips together, your new bathroom will be unrecognizable. The advantage of such solutions is that any replacement and redevelopment can be done with your own hands, and this will not harm the family budget.

The main question is how much does the repair cost? Modern market offers a lot of goods of varying prices, both domestic and imported. It is very important not to chase cheap goods, because bathroom renovations do not take a year or two. Remember, no matter how much it costs new plumbing, its service life should reach 10 years.

If you nevertheless decide to demolish the wall and radically change the room, be patient and have resources, because you will have to deal with the BTI service (without their permission you cannot make changes to the apartment plan) and a lot of related problems.

Under favorable circumstances, DIY repairs will be a pleasure, not to mention the results.

Bathroom design in blue tones

Choice of shades

As we have mentioned more than once, the primary problem of rooms in a Khrushchev house is the minimum area. This issue can be resolved as effectively as possible in two ways: replacing the plumbing, which we mentioned above, and choosing a light finish.

Let's talk in more detail about the choice of cladding and its shade:

The traditional choice of every second housewife is ceramic tiles. Repairing a toilet in a Khrushchev-era building, as in a bathroom, requires high-quality, moisture-resistant and durable materials, such as tiles. Its advantage is that you can do the installation yourself; it is resistant to ultraviolet radiation, sharp temperatures and high humidity.

Only tiles can protect a room from dampness and fungus, and, most importantly, they cost quite reasonably. The choice of decorative material is huge, so you don’t need to worry about how much it will cost.

Design project of a small bathroom in Khrushchev in pink and white colors

  • the room only needs to be enlarged, which only light shades have successfully done for many years,
  • pairs like yellow and orange, white and sand green and turquoise, pink and purple look good,
  • tones should be soft and not irritating to the psyche,
  • saturated colors such as red, black, blue, brown are best used as a complement to basic white, beige, olive and light gray,
  • to highlight certain areas of the room, use mosaic tiles of the appropriate shade,
  • floor tiles should be slightly darker than wall tiles (example: white wall and gray floor),
  • the design or pattern should be minimal, preferably just a few tiles; a bathroom that is dotted with polka dots or flowers is not the best choice for modern renovation with your own hands.

Under no circumstances choose large slabs - they will divide the meager space in the Khrushchev-era building into even smaller zones. A medium-sized rectangular tile looks organic.

It is better to lay the material on the walls horizontally, so the bathroom will visually expand in width. And diagonal laying is perfect for the floor.

Find out how much tiles cost from various manufacturers, both domestic and imported. You should not trust single points on the market without a certificate and warranty period.

How to place a bathtub and a toilet in a combined bathroom in Khrushchev

Problems of Khrushchev's bathrooms

As is already clear, the main disadvantage of combined bathrooms in Khrushchev buildings is their small size, as a rule, their area does not exceed four square meters. It should also be noted here that at the time when Khrushchev-era buildings were designed, due attention was not paid to the placement of household appliances, which means that in order to fit a washing machine into four square meters, you will most likely have to resort to redevelopment of the premises.

Redevelopment, as you know, is not an easy task in itself, and before it begins, you should carefully consider where and how to place the plumbing. In addition, not all redevelopment ideas can be successful: difficulties arise with the sewer riser, which cannot be moved, and therefore, the plumbing fixtures will need to be installed not where you want, but where the riser allows.

And finally, you need to pay attention to the interior and decor of the bathroom in order to visually expand the space, and the walls of the room do not psychologically put pressure on those in the bathroom.

Description: In the recent past, the bathroom was undeservedly given the most cramped space in the room, and no attention was paid to its design.
The traditional color combination was considered to be a range of dark and light tones of ceramic tiles. Such an interior is not at all pleasing to the eye, and is unlikely to lift your spirits.

Today everything has changed, new trends in design art will help you create a room full of comfort and style, and boundless imagination will turn your bathroom into a real paradise.

The modern world provides a rich variety of different products for the correct, harmonious and beautiful design of a bathroom.
Also, a wide range of various accessories allows you to give each bathroom, the design of which is taken even from an ordinary renovation magazine, a unique appearance for every taste.

At the right approach, any bathroom, regardless of its size, can shine with the colors of individuality. The most important thing is beauty and comfort.

Photo of a bathroom in Khrushchev: toilet, sink, bathtub

The walls and ceiling must be light; if ceramic tiles are used for wall cladding, it is better to avoid large, bright patterns. Tiles with a discreet or no pattern at all are much more suitable for a small bathroom.

The same goes for texture - a smooth one will visually expand the space. glossy surface, if preference is given to textured coatings, then it should be an unexpressed and medium-sized texture.

We combine a toilet, washing machine, sink and water heater

Regarding the ceiling: it can be whitewashed, trimmed with a light smooth panel, or even better, mounted suspended ceiling with a glossy surface.

And if we're talking about mirror surfaces, then the mirrors themselves also cannot be neglected - due to the reflection of the wall, the bathroom in the Khrushchev-era building visually expands significantly.

We design an interior - the best photos and ideas that work

When designing an interior, you first need to decide directly on the decoration of the walls, ceiling and floor. As mentioned earlier, the colors should be light, so the walls and ceiling can be done in the same color scheme: creamy muted tones, and the ceiling should be lighter than the walls, and the floor is darker to create a kind of gradient from light to dark, which will visually make the room taller.

You can make glossy not only the walls and ceiling, but also the floor, the only drawback Such coatings are easily soiled, so it is better to immediately remove drops of water from the walls and floor. An acrylic bathtub liner will save your money, time and nerves. This is one of the fastest and simple ways renovate your bath.

If you are about to renovate your bathroom and have limited funds, here is what you need to know: inexpensive way finishing.

Bathrooms with light tiles can give the impression of a cold operating room, so it makes sense to add a few pops of color to the interior. For a long time The emphasis was on the horizontal division into a light upper part and a dark lower part - such a classic technique is good for large rooms, but vertical lines are more suitable for bathrooms in Khrushchev-era buildings.

Therefore, for decoration, you can lay out a narrow strip of darker tiles from floor to ceiling - additional lines will visually raise the ceiling.

It is also worth stopping at the choice of ceramic tiles: for small bathrooms it is better to choose medium-sized tiles - large square or rectangular parts can focus attention on the fact that the room area is small.

Photo of a small bathroom in Khrushchev. Combining a washing machine and sink

The same rules apply to mosaics made of small squares, which are now so popular - the colorful design of the walls will narrow the room even more, so it is better to leave the mosaic solely for decoration, and with a calm, monochromatic combination of colors. As for plumbing, with its diversity today, you can place everything you need in small spaces.

The most bulky piece of furniture in the bathroom, of course, is the bathtub itself - now manufacturers offer not only long bathtubs, but also non-standard ones with a reduced length, which can easily free up space for a washing machine.

For small rooms, sitting bathtubs combined with shower cabins are practical - they take up little more space than a regular shower room, but functionally they are significantly superior to them.

For the tiniest bathrooms, separate shower stalls are perfect, and if you choose glass doors or partitions near the shower, the space will be perceived as a single whole with the entire bathroom.

Will help to significantly save space in the room corner baths, which are also functional - their design includes shelves for storing care products. There should be no difficulties when choosing a sink for the bathroom - now the market offers extremely compact sinks with dimensions of no more than 55x40 centimeters.

You can experiment with the placement of the sink, for example, placing it overlapping the bathtub so that the side of the sink partially overlaps the side of the bathtub. For very small rooms, manufacturers have provided corner sinks that will not take up a single centimeter of usable space.

The models of toilets are also very diverse now; for small rooms, toilets with installations inscribed in the corner have long been successfully used - due to the hidden cistern The room looks modern and at the same time creates additional space.

An effective technique for small bathrooms in Khrushchev-era buildings is to use sinks and toilets that are attached to the wall and do not touch the floor. Due to its “floating” in the air, such plumbing fixtures are not perceived as bulky, and the room retains spaciousness.

It is especially justified to use such “floating” sinks to place a low washing machine underneath - now manufacturers of household appliances offer automatic machines with a height of no more than 70 centimeters; this design greatly saves space.

With the right approach, even small bathrooms in Khrushchev-era buildings can accommodate all the necessary household appliances and plumbing fixtures, while the room will seem spacious.

To do this, just listen to our advice: choose the right tile for walls and floors, combine plumbing fixtures and select a suitable washing machine - and even such a problematic room as a combined bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building will become cozy, comfortable and functional.

Bathroom design ideas in Khrushchev

Khrushchev is not a death sentence

With the advent of modern plumbing, the situation began to change; now even in such a small area that the Khrushchev era allocated for the bathroom, it is possible to change its design in better side, make it more convenient and functional. When using compact modern plumbing fixtures, the bathroom expands not only visually, but also accommodates devices that were previously unimaginable.

First of all, the design of a bathroom changes noticeably for the better when replacing a standard bathtub with a modern version, preferably a corner one. Such a replacement will immediately free up space, quite sufficient for installing a washing machine, because the Khrushchev apartment has such a small kitchen that it is difficult to install a washing machine in it.

Properly “hiding” a washing machine

Modern plumbing manufacturers offer interesting solutions, thanks to which the small area that a bathroom in a Khrushchev has is used most optimally. There are two original models of washing machines on sale, each of which changes the design of the room in an original way, and a small bathroom becomes more spacious.

Photo of the bathroom. Small but beautiful. Pink and beige colors

One of the models involves installing it under the sink, sold complete with a washing machine, thanks to which the bathroom receives an improved interior design. The second model surprises buyers who saw it only in the photo. What can we say about those who were able to see it in action!

The washing machine is called flop. Its installation saves not only a small bathroom area, but also water. It is installed above the toilet, combined with the flush function in it. This true miracle of technology has such an original design that only its presence in the bathroom gives the room a unique design.

Or maybe... remove everything?

A revolutionary solution used in bathroom refurbishment is the installation of a floor drain and the complete abandonment of a bathtub or shower. Only the shower unit itself is installed, and an impact-resistant glass partition is installed to protect the bathroom walls from splashes. The glass can be frosted, which will give some intimacy to taking a shower, and for convenience and visual expansion of the space they are made sliding.

Photos of such a room arrangement presented in magazines amaze with the spaciousness that the bathroom has after reconstruction. Many simply do not understand how the Khrushchev-era building gets such space.

Everything is done simply - the pipes are hidden in the wall, and if it is impossible to hide them in the plane of the wall, they are closed with ennobled boxes tiles. At the same time, the upper surfaces of such boxes serve as shelves for toiletries.

The toilet is installed either in a corner position, which significantly saves space, or without requiring a tank and attached directly to the wall. The walls are made in light colors, and the floor is covered with tiles, the color of which is identical to the color of the walls.

The washbasin is combined with a washing machine, or a glass one is installed, completely invisible against the general background. The interior is complemented by a large mirror, giving a unique visual effect, and wall cabinets, their color merging with the walls.

This design, complemented by shiny heated towel rails, and bright spots in the form of towels and other accessories, will turn the standard Khrushchev-era bathroom into a room that is pleasant to visit.

Apartments in Khrushchev-era buildings have specific features: limited area of rooms, including the bathroom. To make a successful bathroom renovation in a Khrushchev-era building, you need to take into account the advice of experienced specialists. More on this later.

The main feature of such high-rise buildings is that the apartments located here are small in size. And each room, including the bathroom, requires special attention when renovating with your own hands due to its small area.

The pieces of furniture and accessories a person needs must be arranged as successfully as possible so that the bathroom becomes both functional and beautiful. You will need to combine as many functions as possible in one piece of furniture or equipment and discard everything unnecessary. And thanks to the use of design techniques, you can visually make this room more spacious.

Bathroom layout

Khrushchev is distinguished by an inconvenient initial space layout. There is simply no space here to install all the interior items that are relevant for the family. Therefore, in many cases, people change the layout of the space. Before starting renovations, you will need to choose the most successful bathroom layout, in the opinion of the apartment owner.

The budget for carrying out repair work yourself will largely determine the choice of one of the described options. After all, dismantling the wall and combining several spaces will require additional investments.

Wall decoration

The best option for a bathroom is to use ceramic tiles. It demonstrates high resistance to increased level humidity and the process of mold formation. This finish is easy to clean from dirt, and at the same time has a very interesting aesthetics.

And if you choose the right placement of tiles, you can visually expand the narrow space of the bathroom. This task can be accomplished in several ways:

  • laying tiles in vertical or horizontal stripes different color or structures;
  • laying in zones - for example, squares, diamonds, rectangles, with some offset, in the form of a frame, and so on;
  • in the form of bright inserts against a background of light-colored tiles;
  • using mirror inserts that allow you to visually expand the narrow bathroom space.

Floor

Bathroom renovation requires a responsible attitude to the work. Then the interior will turn out to be truly harmonious and functional. As in the case of wall decoration, you should prefer ceramic tiles for the floor, but with an anti-slip coating. A tiled floor in any case is more advantageous, because it is practical and beautiful, it is easy to clean, it dries quickly and shines. The main thing is to do high-quality screed so that installation is carried out on a perfectly flat floor.

Can be applied useful ideas to expand the space: do it yourself by laying it diagonally. It is also fashionable today to lay light and dark tiles in a checkerboard pattern.

Methods for laying tiles on the bathroom floor

Ceiling decoration

There are ideas for visually increasing the height of rooms. They should be used so that the results of the repair are impressive and pleasing. For example, in a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building, you can choose light-colored materials for finishing the ceilings. It's good to paint or sheathe ceilings plastic panels.

Before painting the ceiling, it is necessary to treat the surface with an antibacterial compound, then mold from excess moisture will not form on the paint. The panels are more practical to maintain, as they are easy to wipe with a regular sponge to remove dirt, stains or mold.

Typically, the ceiling height in a Khrushchev building is 2.55 m. Here, arrange tension glossy ceilings quite difficult, but many people prefer them to other options. This finish looks luxurious and interesting. And if you use spot lighting here with your own hands, the bath will acquire additional coziness.

Color solution

It has long been known that the use dark colors leads to a visual narrowing of space. Therefore, such ideas are relevant only for spacious rooms. A bathtub in a Khrushchev building is not one of these. Therefore, when renovating this room with your own hands, you should refuse too much dark shades. If you really want to, use the following design technique: use dark inserts and vertical stripes on the walls when decorating niches or zoning the bathroom space.

According to experienced specialists, it is necessary to use finishing and furniture in light colors. For example, tropical mixing of different shades of green, all variations of blue, sandy beige, snow-white. The combination of these colors always looks very harmonious in the bathroom.

As for white, it is important not to overdo it with this color, otherwise you can get a too cold, hospital version. Often, plumbing fixtures have this color, so there should be a minimum of white in the decoration of walls and floors.

Zoning

Zoning the bathroom space can be done using tiles on the walls of different colors, structures or shapes. So, the area above the bathtub or shower stall is decorated with small tiles with a smooth structure, and the rest of the space is finished with a variant standard size with a rough surface. You can also highlight niches and projections on the walls with ceramic tiles of a different shade.

In addition, you can zone the bathroom by using sliding glass partitions. They divide the space into a relaxation area, washing area, and a technical part where there is a washing machine and household chemicals. But at the same time they do not burden the already modest-sized room.

If the bathroom is quite large, you can build a podium in it. There is a bathroom on it, which looks very formal.

Selection and arrangement of bathroom interior items

To make the bathroom interior as functional as possible, you need to correctly arrange furniture and plumbing fixtures. Let's talk about this in more detail:

  • bathtub or shower stall - experienced experts in the world of interior design advise against using a standard bathtub in small space. In their opinion, it is better to prefer a compact and functional shower stall or corner bathtub;
  • sink – you should not choose a model with a footrest, it hides the space of the room. It is better to choose a bedside table and install a sink in it. Here you can store washing powder, sponges, towels and the like. If there is nowhere to place the washing machine, but you really want to, you can place it under the sink. Then you will need to get a wall-hung sink model mounted directly on the wall. And above this product they hang a mirror, and on its sides there are shelves. The glass sink looks very elegant. It can become the central accent of the entire interior. However, such pleasure costs a lot of money;
  • toilet – it is also better to choose a wall-hung toilet model. This idea will save space and give the interior a fashionable, modern look;
  • washing machine – the successful location of the washing machine is an important problem in Khrushchev’s apartments. It can be installed under the sink or placed on the side of the front door. It is better to choose a model that is narrow in depth and does not take up much space;
  • shower with floor drain – non-standard ideas designers should also be taken into account for ordinary Khrushchev. One of these ideas is a shower, the drain of which is located directly in the floor. This compact version however, it requires raising the floor level by 10 cm from the original mark. Then it will be possible to organize a drain ladder.

It’s not news to anyone that most of the population of our country lives in houses built by Khrushchev. For many Soviet families, the Khrushchevka is a long-awaited home of their own. Typically, apartments in Khrushchev buildings were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. A lot has changed since then. Usually we get such apartments from our grandparents or buy them with a mortgage as the most affordable housing. And below you will learn how you can renovate a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building, because this issue is relevant for many.

Features of the bathroom in the "Khrushchev"

The layout of a typical apartment in Khrushchev is known to everyone. Most often this is one or two rooms, a three-meter long combined bathroom and a six-meter long kitchen.

Often new owners receive an apartment in a deplorable condition. However, if you spend a certain amount of money, time and effort, then even a simple “Khrushchev” can be turned into quite presentable housing.

Approaching the task at hand responsibly, your stylish, new and comfortable interior Even homeowners in new buildings may be envious.

The renovation of an apartment in a Khrushchev-era building should begin with the bathroom.

Bathroom renovation in Khrushchev: main problems

Initially, the Khrushchevs positioned themselves as a budget option housing, so they were completely freed from all excesses - both in practical and aesthetic terms.

The layout consists of a minimum of usable space - as much as is necessary to satisfy primary needs. And the bathroom is no exception. In a typical mixed bathroom there is barely space for plumbing equipment - toilet, sink, bathtub. But the owners still need somewhere to place a washing machine, mirror, shelf, cosmetics, towels and household chemicals. Therefore, issues of convenience and beauty often fade into the background, giving way to issues of saving space.

The first problem of renovating a bathroom in a Khrushchev apartment is the small area. The second is that “Khrushchevka” houses are very old. The first “Khrushchev” buildings were built in 1959, and the last in 1985. That is, today, the “youngest Khrushchev” buildings are about 30 years old. Many houses have not been exposed major renovation decades, so the condition engineering systems– ventilation, water supply, sewerage – leaves much to be desired. Since modern plumbing fixtures often require connection to reliable, new sewer and water pipes, it is better to replace the entire wiring. It will be impossible to replace, you will have to resort to major repairs.

Moreover, the poor state of communication, the impossibility of transfer or replacement limits the freedom to remodel the bathroom.

Another problem concerns not only “Khrushchev” buildings, but also any housing built in haste. It's about O Not smooth walls Oh, which involve additional time and money so that they can later be tiled.

DIY bathroom renovation in Khrushchev: main stages

  1. Dismantling works.

It is better to plan the location of furniture and plumbing in the bathroom after completing the dismantling of all old decoration and equipment. Having a “blank slate” before your eyes will make it much easier for you to fantasize. Preparatory work it is necessary to start with dismantling the plumbing equipment.

As soon as all the old equipment is removed, we begin dismantling the water pipes (if necessary). Then you should get rid of the old finishing coatings. Paint is removed from the floor and walls using a stiff metal brush, and the tiles are knocked down with a hammer, hammer drill and chisel. If it is necessary to level the floors, then the screed is crushed with a hammer drill until concrete base. Remaining dust and debris must be thoroughly removed.

  1. Replacement of pipes.

It is necessary to begin replacing sewer and water pipes even before the walls and floor are leveled. First, you need to have a detailed plan for the placement of plumbing, in accordance with which the pipes in the bathroom will be laid out.

If necessary, replace old cast iron pipes with plastic ones. They are not as reliable as cast iron, but they weigh much less, so installation can be done alone. Moreover, tees and plastic pipes can free up several centimeters of space.

The pipes are attached to the wall with metal clamps or placed in curtains on the wall. If necessary, you can hide them in a plasterboard niche, but it eats up quite a lot of space. Since free space in a Khrushchev building is almost worth its weight in gold, it is better to spend time plastering the walls and gating.

Making the wiring sewer pipes, do not forget about the slope, which should be 10-20 mm per linear meter. Thus, you will increase the thickness of the screed on the floor, but it is important to respect the slope of the sewer pipes. In places where the pipe distribution connects to the riser, do not forget to provide the possibility of installing a walk-through tap so that you can turn off the supply of cold and hot water.

Electrical wiring is carried out before finishing works, since laying wires will additionally require ditching the walls.

Think about providing the bathroom with the required number of sockets (it’s good if they are double) with a high protection class. If there will be many electrical appliances in the bathroom, it is recommended to install special device protective shutdown.

  1. Selection of building materials.

If you do not plan to spend a lot of money on renovating a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era building, then the best option is to paint the walls with waterproof paint.

In addition to being cheap, this option has another advantage: by purchasing color or white paint, you will achieve the color that you need, while other finishing options do not always provide this opportunity.

However, there is one important nuance here: in order for walls painted waterproof paint, looked beautiful, they need to be even, and this is not easy to achieve.

Another budget option is decorating walls with plastic panels. They are distinguished by a wide variety of textures and colors, are easy to install and remove, do not require perfectly smooth walls and are easy to maintain.

Their significant drawback is that the finishing will sooner or later require replacement with a more durable building material.

The most common is wall decoration with porcelain stoneware and tiles. Such materials have gained high popularity due to their resistance to temperature changes, service life and waterproofing properties. Now in the store you can find the tiles yourself different shapes– rectangular, square, hexagonal. There is no point in talking about the variety of patterns and colors for a long time - there are plenty of variations. If you cannot find among ready-made options suitable, that is, the ability to create your own patterns by combining tiles of different textures and colors.

Attention! Think it over color scheme in advance, because the overall perception of the room depends on it.

The best covering for bathroom walls and floors is tile, as it can provide the required level of waterproofing. There are other floor covering solutions. The most budget-friendly of them is linoleum, and the most expensive is waterproof laminate. But in terms of their characteristics, they are inferior to tiled floors.

The ceiling can be covered with plastic panels or painted with white paint. But we advise you to spend more and install a suspended ceiling. First of all, it looks good and also protects you from leaks. And if you decide to opt for a glossy material, then the ceiling will visually appear higher than it actually is.

Attention! The design of the bathroom ceiling should be harmoniously combined with the interior of the room. The ceiling in the bathroom can be very different, embody your design ideas and carefully read our material. At the same time, do not forget that finishing the ceiling should be started only after finishing the walls.

  1. Preparing surfaces for finishing.

Preparing walls and floors for installation begins with dismantling the old coverings, which we have already discussed above. Once the old coating is removed, you can begin leveling the surfaces. Cement-based plaster is used for the walls. When it dries, it is necessary to treat the seams with putty. The walls can be leveled using drywall, but this method will reduce the space of the bathroom.

As for leveling the floor, the procedure is carried out as follows: after dismantling concrete screed remove remaining dust and debris, lay waterproofing, making a 15 cm overlap on the walls, and then fill in a new screed.
  1. Wall decoration with tiles.

Follow this procedure:

  • Using a building level and a plumb line, mark vertical and horizontal lines on the wall.
  • Prepare the glue for impregnation, and then apply it with a spatula to the places where the work will be carried out.
  • Next, use a serrated spatula to go over the entire section of the wall. The glue will form grooves.
  • Once the job is complete and the tile adhesive has dried, seal the seams with tile grout.
  1. Purchase and installation of plumbing fixtures.

Homeowners in Khrushchev-era buildings have to be especially careful when choosing plumbing fixtures. First of all, you need to make a choice between a shower cabin and a bathtub, since in small room You may be able to find a place for one of these devices. The shower allows you to significantly save room space, which you can use to install a washing machine. Moreover, people with disabilities and the elderly will find it much easier to use a shower than a bathtub without assistance.

In addition, the bathroom is convenient for washing large items that require delicate washing, as well as for bathing small children. Plus, many people sometimes love to soak in fragrant foam or warm water.

For a bathroom in a Khrushchev-era apartment, corner models of a bathtub, toilet and sink are perfect. The sink can be installed directly above the washing machine by purchasing a lily pad model, or the cabinets can be mounted into the countertop. There are also sinks that can be placed directly above the bathtub, but this design will not be entirely convenient.

When choosing a toilet, you need to pay attention to the drain. This system can be vertical, horizontal or oblique. The first flush systems provide the opportunity to install the toilet against the wall, so we recommend choosing them.

  1. Selection and installation of doors.

When buying bathroom doors, you need to consider the following important points:

  • the door must be highly resistant to moisture, temperature changes and not deform over time;
  • it must have noise-insulating and heat-insulating properties;
  • high-quality locks and handles should be installed on the doors, since they wear out very quickly in the bathroom;
  • the door must have a ventilation hole. If it is missing, during installation you need to make a gap between the floor and the door.

Typically, bathroom doors are made of plastic, tempered steel, chipboard or wood. If you choose products from the best manufacturers, no matter what material the door is made of, it will serve you for many years.

To save space, pay attention to pendulum swing or sliding doors. You can also give preference to folding doors made according to the “accordion” principle.

You can install the door to the bathroom only after all finishing work has been completed. If you bought an ordinary swing door, then make sure during installation that it opens outward and not inward.
