Attaching the chandelier to the ceiling using a mounting strip. How to attach a chandelier to the ceiling - methods How to attach a chandelier if there is a large hole

Installing a new chandelier in a room is a significant event. Before you hang a chandelier on the ceiling in your apartment, you need to assemble it correctly. Fortunately, the design of most chandeliers is not that complicated, so let's move on to the next part of the preparatory work.

Connecting wires

Let's start with the most basic. To get started, answer the questions:

  • How many wires come out of the ceiling?
  • How many keys does the switch have?

If there are only 2 wires, then forget about the possibility of turning on different parts chandeliers with two-key switch. Without installing the third wire, nothing will work. This means that all the wires in the chandelier are collected in bundles a certain color. If 3 wires are connected to the lamp, and you do not need the light to turn on at the same time, then in the chandelier, the wires going to the socket thread and the ground wire are collected in one bundle, while the others are divided into 2 groups and are also twisted into bundles.

Poor contact will not only lead to heating of the wire, but can also cause premature failure of the housekeeper.

To work you will need a simple tool:

  1. Pliers.
  2. Small screwdriver.
  3. Battery-powered indicator screwdriver.
  4. Terminal block.
  5. Open-end wrench 12.

The need for a key arises when assembling a chandelier. An indicator screwdriver will be needed to determine where the wire is connected. Take it in your hands, and the moment you touch the tip of the screwdriver and its upper part, it should light up - this means that the device is working. Now, holding the top edge of the screwdriver, touch the tip to the threads (or side contact) in the socket. Free hand touch the wires coming out of this socket. When you touch one of them, the indicator should light up. Wires of the same color will be “ground”.

Insert the separated bundles of wires into the terminal block of your choice and securely fasten it there.

Hanging a chandelier

Let's consider two main methods.

  1. On a hook.
  2. On the mounting plate.

Hook

This used to be the most common method, but is now becoming a thing of the past. Nevertheless, there are still many versions of chandeliers with this type of mount available.

Some craftsmen solved this problem in their own way - they replaced the plastic hook with a homemade hook made from a welding electrode.

The chandelier comes with a special mounting strip, which must be properly prepared before installing it on the ceiling. Fasten the screws to it with nuts so that their heads are in the inside of the bar, just do not clamp them. Insert strip with inside bowls into the chandelier in the same way as it will later be installed, tightening the decorative nuts until they stop - the bar should be flush with the edges of the chandelier bowl, or slightly below it.

After checking, firmly tighten the screws in the bar so that they do not rotate, otherwise removing the chandelier may become difficult. big problem. Place the strip against the ceiling where it will be installed and make marks on the ceiling through the holes. Moving the bar to the side, drill concrete base ceiling and insert the dowels. After this, the plank is attached to the ceiling, and the chandelier itself is attached to it. If the base of the ceiling is wooden, then the plank is attached to it with wood screws.

Electrical connection

When the switch contacts are open, there should be no voltage on the wires.

This means that when you touch the wires with an indicator screwdriver, it should not light up. In this case, a screwdriver that operates without batteries will give a more accurate result. After turning on the power, the indicator should show the presence of voltage on two wires. The remaining one is the “ground”, which should be connected to the common beam of the chandelier. If this is not the case in your case, then this means that the switch turns off not the phase, but the ground. If you have incandescent lamps or LED lamps connected, you can leave it that way; this connection is not suitable for housekeepers, as they may blink (this was discussed above).

Do not install housekeepers under any circumstances if the chandelier is connected via a dimmer!

Connecting a chandelier with a power supply

Often people try to increase the brightness of the glow by replacing standard lamps with more powerful ones, as a result of which the chandelier stops functioning.

To prevent the transformer from breaking down, monitor the total consumption of the lamps - it should be lower than the output power of this device.

If your chandelier has halogen bulbs, then most often they are designed for a 12 V power supply. In this case, the power supply is connected through a step-down transformer, on which the voltage at the outputs is always written. Where the voltage is indicated as 220V, we connect it to the network, and the contacts marked 12V are connected to the light bulbs.

When connected directly, the bulbs must be rated at 220V. Otherwise, halogen lamps designed to operate through a transformer will explode and shards of glass will fly throughout the room.

All wires must be carefully insulated.

Mounting to concrete ceiling

In order to secure the fastening strip to a concrete ceiling, you need to attach it to the intended mounting location and make marks on the ceiling where the holes will be drilled. If the floor is made of hollow slabs, then you need to check the thickness of the concrete in the place where the hole will be drilled, since it may happen that the dowel will have nothing to hold onto. You may have to step aside or position the bar differently. If nothing can be changed, you can use anchors, or lead into the cavity of the slab wooden slats, and screw the bar to it with screws. To complete this job you will need:

  1. Hammer drill (or impact drill).
  2. Pobedite drill, according to the diameter of the dowel.
  3. Screwdriver (screwdriver/drill).
  4. Dowels (anchors or screws).

Before you start drilling, make sure that dust and sand do not get into the hammer drill chuck. For this purpose, you can pull a disposable cup or half a rubber ball over the drill, and then drill.

Depending on the fastening method you choose, secure the bar securely, but do not overdo it as it can bend if you press too hard.

On a plasterboard ceiling

What difficulties may arise when installing a chandelier on a plasterboard ceiling? The point is that it is important how appearance plasterboard ceiling and mechanical strength installed structures.

You need to decide in advance on the choice of chandelier, and determine how it will be fixed. Let's consider the main recommendations:

  1. The place on the ceiling where the heavy chandelier will be located must be additionally reinforced with a metal profile. This needs to be taken care of when making the frame of the ceiling structure.
  2. To attach a small chandelier directly to drywall, you need to buy fasteners (folding spring dowels, butterflies). There is no need to strengthen anything.

During work, it is important to follow safety precautions - ensure safe movement under the ceiling and de-energize the electrical system.

If it is not possible to turn off the power to the room, then you need to work with rubber gloves as an electrician and use a good quality tool (nippers and pliers must have intact handles).

We attach the chandelier to the plasterboard ceiling

Drywall is durable mechanical properties, and for this reason the installation is carried out directly to the material itself. But this method has limitations.

  1. Because plasterboard sheet can withstand loads weighing up to 6 kg per square meter, then, given this feature, when purchasing, you should give preference to chandeliers that have a relatively light weight.
  2. It must be taken into account that deformation of the plasterboard ceiling may occur during operation of the device, for example, when replacing a lamp or if you accidentally catch the chandelier with your hand. Therefore, in order to preserve the attractive appearance of a plasterboard ceiling for a long time, it is not recommended to repeatedly change the chandelier, especially not to make new ones next to the old holes.

First, consider the option of mounting a hanging chandelier. The first step is to drill a hole in the drywall (for the selected fastener) and insert a spring dowel or butterfly - this is where the chandelier will be suspended from the ceiling.

The spring dowel must be tightened with a nut, and the butterfly must be tightened with a self-tapping screw (there should be a click). The dowel and butterfly must be equipped with a pin or hook. After this, you can hang the chandelier on the hook and connect the wiring.

Holes are made at the designated points, as in the case of pendant chandelier, but there was a hook, and here we will use a butterfly dowel, to which the strip will be attached with self-tapping screws. Now the most interesting part - holding the chandelier under the ceiling, you need to connect the wiring, and only after that it will be possible to fix the chandelier.

It is extremely inconvenient to do this work alone, so you need someone who will hold the chandelier until you finish working with the electrical wiring. If there is nowhere to wait for help, then make a small hook and temporarily hang the chandelier on it so as not to scratch it.

When installing a stretch ceiling, you should take care in advance about what kind of chandelier or lamp will be on the ceiling, and what kind of mount for the lighting device you need to use. This is important to take note of, because the stretched material is not the basis for fastening, and if the integrity of the film is compromised, the fabric will simply tear.

How to choose the right chandelier

It is important to pay attention to the choice of chandelier so that it does not spoil the expensive ceiling covering. In this case, you need to consider what lamps will be used. For example, it is better to purchase a chandelier with energy-saving lamps, since they heat up less during operation. If halogen or incandescent lamps are used, they should be hidden in the lampshade and not directed at the ceiling, but to the side.

If you purchased a chandelier with sockets for ordinary incandescent lamps, then it is better to screw in housekeepers or LED bulbs instead. It is important to know that if the chandeliers are overhead with a thin metal base, then adjoining the suspended ceiling in a heated state from incandescent lamps can lead to its deformation.

You also need to make sure that the base lighting fixture, which covers the fasteners, without sharp edges and will not tear the film.

We attach it to the suspended ceiling

The most common and reliable way installation is fastening with a hook. But this method is only suitable for hanging chandeliers.

  • if the base is under a suspended ceiling - reinforced concrete slabs, and the hook has already been installed by the builders, then it is necessary to determine whether it is installed at a sufficient height;
  • if the location of the hook may not suit you, then using a dowel or anchor you can install the hook yourself by cutting off the old fasteners with a grinder;
  • another way - in the place where in suspended ceiling There will be a hole for installation, a wooden embed is installed, and a hook is attached directly to it.

You need to know at what distance from the main ceiling the suspended ceiling will be located, and also lead the ends of the electrical wire to the installation site.

After the stretch ceiling fabric is stretched, where the hook is located, you need to glue a thermal ring, inside of which a hole is cut for the wires to exit, and then the chandelier is attached. This happens in this way: the chandelier must be hung on a hook, the wires must be connected, and the mounting location must be covered with a lamp cap.

The chandelier can be mounted on a strip or mounting plate.

Most lighting fixtures include special fastenersmetallic profile with screws (the mounting plate mentioned earlier). It is attached to the main ceiling, and the chandelier on top of the stretch ceiling with screws using decorative nuts.

Attaching the chandelier to a suspended ceiling also involves installing a wooden block to the main ceiling, the length of which should not reach the stretch ceiling by almost 1–2 cm. Otherwise, the block will protrude and over time may tear the film of the stretch ceiling. Next, the block should be attached to the ceiling using self-tapping screws and dowels. And when using a wooden block, it is also necessary to make a hole, reinforcing it with a thermal ring.

The mounting strip is attached to the block without going beyond the hole. Then the base of the lighting fixture is attached to the plate. Next, the holes in the base need to be connected to studs (or screws) and tightened with nuts.

In some cases, instead of a wooden block, thick moisture-resistant plywood with attached metal legs is used as a base.

Mounting a chandelier on a cross-shaped bar

This type of fastening is intended mainly for heavy chandeliers with a wide base. Due to the fact that the mounting holes are spaced apart, it will be impossible to secure the chandelier within the hole. To do this, it is again attached to the main ceiling as a base. wooden block to the size of the cross. It is necessary to carefully cut five holes in the stretch ceiling fabric and reinforce them with thermal rings: one big hole to output electric wires and connect the power, and the other four are smaller. Instead of small-diameter thermal rings where self-tapping screws are screwed in, you can use pieces of plastic that are glued to the stretch ceiling. This procedure must be done, otherwise the film where the hole is made will tear.

When the wires are connected, you can hang the chandelier on the crosspiece and secure it with nuts.

One of mandatory elements any repairs related to the ceiling surface - installation of lighting fixtures. Recently, spots of various configurations have become most popular, but most of them main function - additional lighting. Classic chandeliers rightly take on the role of the main one. Purchasing them in a store does not resolve all issues - we still have to figure out how to hang the chandelier on concrete ceiling correct, if you have to deal with a clean ceiling base. We offer you a detailed instructional article with 51 photos and 2 videos that will help you with this.

Surface analysis, drawing up a work plan

To begin with, take a good look around. What way chandelier installation most suitable for you? Let us remind you that this can be done through:

  1. anchor hook;
  2. mounting plate;
  3. clamping suspension.

Of course, work with anchor hook It's always the easiest. But only if it is already installed, as is often the case in old apartment buildings. In this case, you can safely mount a heavy and massive chandelier on it.

If there is no hook, then first inspect the slab where you plan to fix it. For hollow concrete foundations perfect option - clamping suspension. And although it does not provide such a reliable fastening as the same anchor hook, it can handle a fairly large chandelier weighing no more than 7 kg without any problems.

Mounting strip, which is often called an invoice among craftsmen - the third option on how to properly hang a chandelier on base ceiling. It can be used most often when the use of the two options discussed above is not possible. Most modern chandeliers include everything necessary to fix the lighting fixture in this way. So why not take advantage of this?

Required materials and tools

  • hammer drill with drill;
  • set of wrenches;
  • knife with a sharpened blade;
  • screwdriver;
  • polyurethane foam for sealing wiring;
  • pencil;
  • dowels;
  • anchor bolts;
  • terminal connectors.

  • hook;
  • overhead strip included in the kit;
  • hanging hanging hook.

Installing an anchor hook

As noted above, this is the easiest and most reliable way to hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling base. In many old houses it is already prudently installed in advance, so the whole process takes a modest amount of time and does not cause any difficulties even for an unprepared person.

If the hook needs to be installed, then the operation algorithm will be as follows:

  1. select a fixation point on a concrete base;
  2. drill a hole of the required depth and diameter in the concrete base - take into account the size of the decorative cap of the lighting fixture;
  3. insert the anchor hook into the concrete base and tighten it with a wrench.

Installation of a clamping suspension

This option is relevant primarily for hollow concrete structures, as it provides good bearing capacity even with bulky light sources. The clamping suspension is reliable design, consisting of a spacer rod and a hanging strip with all the necessary holes for fastening.

The correct sequence of operations when working with the gimbal:

  1. the prepared spacer rod is inserted into the hole in the concrete base;
  2. the hanging strip is placed inside the concrete slab;
  3. the spacer rod is threaded through one of the holes on the plank: if you want to reduce the distance from the ceiling to the hook, then choose one of the end holes.

Installation of trim strip

In terms of reliability, this installation method is in no way inferior to the two discussed above. Due to the fact that a newly purchased chandelier always comes with a version of such a strip, it is also noticeably lighter - there is no need to waste time on a tedious search for the necessary materials.

May be in the form:

  • crosses;
  • narrow plate.

To the concrete ceiling surface the overhead strip is secured with dowels and anchor bolts. Most often there are pairs of them - either 2 or 4.

Installation and connection of the chandelier

The main condition that requires strict execution is to comply with electrical safety precautions. To do this, pay attention to the following recommendations:

  1. turn off the electricity supply at the distribution panel;
  2. check the wiring location with a conventional tester;
  3. seal the wiring input: for this you can use polyurethane foam with active resistance
  4. fire or non-flammable mineral wool;
  5. Do not twist copper and aluminum wires together.

If you are dealing with a metal hook, then it will help to reliably protect against short circuits. insulation. To do this, use regular insulating tape or a rubber cover. Both can be easily found at any hardware store.

It is also necessary to take into account some electrical features of old houses - they do not have grounding. In order to correctly hang a chandelier in such conditions, you first need to determine the phase on one of the wires of the power cable and connect it to the end of the lighting device, and the second to the one remaining on the power cable. If the lamp still does not work, then that same second wire is grounding. In this case, it must be disconnected and secured to the other free end of the power cable.

Algorithm for direct installation of a chandelier on a concrete ceiling:

  • remove all decorative elements from it to avoid damage and possible fall when fixing it on the ceiling;
  • on a pre-grounded hook and loop at the end of the chandelier output rod;
  • connect the mounting ends of the chandelier to the power cable;
  • if the mounting method you have chosen is an overhead mounting plate, then after the previous step, apply the cap plate so that it fits onto required holes, and use the nuts to securely fasten;
  • fix the decorative cap so that it completely covers mounting hole in the ceiling;
  • Check the correct operation of the lighting fixture.

All stages of installing a chandelier on a concrete ceiling in one video

Conclusion

After carefully studying the proposed article-instructions, you will quickly understand how easy and, most importantly, correctly to hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling, without spending a lot of precious time on it. Compared to other conditions for installing lighting fixtures - for example, on stretch fabrics- a clean base requires a simplified algorithm of actions (read about how to attach a chandelier to a suspended ceiling if it is already stretched). In fact, the most difficult thing is not to make a mistake when directly connecting the light source to the electrical wiring. Only serious attitude issues of electrical safety and scrupulous adherence to the proposed work plan will help you easily overcome this stage and after some time enjoy the spectacular lighting on your concrete ceiling.

A chandelier is not just an ordinary lighting fixture that is an attribute of any interior. It also serves as an additional decorative element. Fashion does not stand still; to please it, it is often necessary to change the chandelier when renovating or changing the furnishings. However, it is not necessary to resort to the help of strangers; you can hang the lamp from the ceiling yourself, the main thing is to follow the work algorithm.
And even if you never have the chance to attach a lamp to the ceiling yourself, it wouldn’t hurt to at least just know how to do it correctly in order to be able to control the work hired workers. Therefore, let's figure out how to hang a chandelier so that it is reliable and safe.

Basics

Initially, the installation of a chandelier begins with an inspection of the existing mounting system.
Based on the type of fastening, there are three types of suspension - they are used most often (this means specifically for chandeliers).

  • fastening on powerful hooks mounted in the ceiling.
  • suspension on a mounting plate.
  • installation on an extended platform

Installing the mount

The first option is most suitable for massive lamps that have a leg or are suspended on a chain (or wire) of different lengths. The hook is able to withstand constant, significant loads. Previously, it was always built in by default - even at the stage of laying floor slabs. Today builders do not always do this.
Modern lamp models are made, as a rule, from lightweight materials, and it is not at all necessary to make powerful fasteners for them. In addition, the hook is usually located clearly in the center of the room, and designers often shift the visual center or zone the space using lighting. And then what to do with the ugly hook firmly built into the ceiling?
Therefore, in new-style buildings, new residents plan the location of the chandelier at their own discretion, shifting it in the desired direction. To hang the lamp, a simple and reliable fastening strip is used (shown in the second photo), which successfully copes with small loads. This mounting option allows you to use flat lamp models, which, as planned, should fit closely to the ceiling. Such systems can be mounted on suspended ceiling structures.
The latter type is used on hollow stretch and plasterboard ceilings. These materials themselves are not strong and stable, so the holder (in the form of a wooden block, for example) is attached directly to concrete floor. And then the lamp is suspended from it, flush with the suspended surface.
The holding profiles must be strictly parallel so that there is no increased load on any one side. The only exception is a significant difference in the ceiling planes, when it is necessary to level the platform using hangers of different heights.

Work safety

While working, you need to remember three main rules: adhere to basic safety precautions, observe polarity when connecting wires and use reliable fastening. These instructions, like three pillars, must be strictly observed.
In addition, to perform the installation correctly (and without health consequences) ceiling lamp Keep in mind the recommendations below.

The most important thing is to ensure absolute safety of work. This means that the lamp needs to be replaced during the day in order to be able to completely de-energize the apartment throughout the entire installation period.

Even if the circuit is de-energized, still be sure to check it with a special tester screwdriver with a built-in light bulb. Sometimes residual stress can hit very hard.

Always de-energize and test the lighting circuit when hanging fixtures from the ceiling. Attaching chandeliers is work at height, so even a slight electric shock is enough to cause more serious injury if you fall from a stepladder.

New chandelier and old wiring

You need to be especially careful if your wiring is old and made of aluminum wire. Ideally, it would be completely replaced with copper, with a larger cross-section. This is absolutely justified, since previously much lower rated loads were placed on the circuit. Therefore, it would be right to expand its capacity. If it is not possible to change the wiring, then protect yourself as much as possible by following our recommendations.
Remember - under no circumstances directly connect the copper wires of the chandelier with a thick cable of aluminum wiring. In close contact, both substances react, and as a result of corrosion, there is a real threat of short circuiting, and, as a result, fire.
Therefore, apply insulating solder to copper wires, and only then screw them to aluminum ones. All three wires are processed in this way; to be sure, additionally solder all connections (especially if the chandelier is installed in wet rooms, such as a bathroom). It’s better to use special clamp terminals that provide safe and reliable connection. There are a lot of models and the cost is quite small.
Don’t be lazy to ground both the lamp itself and the switch. This will minimize the risk of electric shock if your neighbors suddenly flood you.

Let's look at the installation features in rooms with different starting conditions in order to carry out the installation correctly. Here are three main types of ceilings: concrete, suspended and plasterboard.

Concrete ceilings

Chandelier hook

The most common option for attaching chandeliers to concrete surfaces is ordinary hooks. If you don’t have a hook, or after a long time it has become unreliable, it’s better to play it safe and change it, strengthening the structure properly.
To do this, you will have to re-embroider the seams between the plates, going a little to the sides. A strong metal plate(or pin) - it is much easier to do this if the ceilings are hollow. For wet areas It wouldn’t hurt to treat the plate with any enamel paint, then it will be less susceptible to corrosion.

Then the hook itself clings to the plate. In the end it turns out reliable system, capable of withstanding heavy loads.
A strong concrete base allows you to use the other two methods of fastening, if suddenly there is a need for it.

Stretch ceiling

Many inexperienced craftsmen often have a question: how to hang a chandelier on a tension surface (canvas or PVC film)?
In fact, if you have a suspended ceiling installed in your room, you can attach the chandelier using the method described above. With the only amendment that you need to hang the lamp away from the canvas so that the hot lamps do not touch the surface with the bulbs. However, most often installers resort to the third type of fastening - with platform extension.
In order to attach the chandelier flush with the canvas, you will need to make a strong frame. This can be a simple wooden block installed flush with the film surface. The mounting plate is screwed onto it with self-tapping screws. The fastening of all base elements must be rigid so that vibrations of the tension film do not cause the lamp to wobble.

Chandelier mount

In addition, special gaskets are installed on both sides of the tension film, which strengthen the perforation site. They prevent the fabric from stretching under its own weight, and also act as a thermal insulating layer that protects the fabric from heat. They look like rings. The one that needs to be mounted outside is usually transparent and is not visible at all behind decorative overlay chandeliers.

Preparing a stretch ceiling

The wires also need to be well insulated at the connections. It’s better to use special clamping terminals that efficiently connect and seal the joints.

Plasterboard ceilings

You can attach a chandelier to a plasterboard ceiling using the same technology as on a suspended ceiling. The second type of fastening is also used - if you plan to install a heavy chandelier. Then a block of suitable size is used. It is attached to the ceiling using a special collet pin. It allows you to significantly enhance the potential of the design.

Drywall fastening

A mounting strip is screwed to the base, and you can safely attach almost any chandelier to it.

Low ceilings and other nuances

Usually than bigger room, those large sizes pendant lights can be installed. But they weigh a lot, and in fact pose a real danger to residents - in the event of an unexpected breakage of the fastenings and a fall.
Depending on the type of chandeliers, there are some mounting features. For example, traditional hooks are not suitable for hanging flat lamp models that do not have a rod. Therefore, if you low ceilings, and you want to smooth out this drawback with a flat lamp, you will have to redo the mounting base. Replace the massive hook with a flat bar. If the chandelier is small and light, it is enough to mount it on aluminum ceiling pendants.
A massive and heavy chandelier must be hung on a thick steel hook, deeply “embedded” in the ceiling. Today you can buy a special, very easy-to-use and practical hook. It is equipped with spacer bars that open during installation - like the wings of a butterfly, and do not allow the mount to dangle and fall out.
After installing such a hook, the hole surrounding it must be primed and cemented. Wait at least 24 hours for the mixture to set. As a result, such a mount will be able to withstand even a heavy chandelier.

Chandelier mount

Please note that the wiring is not attached to the hook. A special chandelier holder is hung on it, and the cables are placed freely, without tension, next to or around.

Scheme

Another important point in installing a ceiling light is to connect the wires correctly. Typically, lighting systems use three wires: phase, ground and neutral.
It’s great if they differ in the color of the insulation - then you don’t have to guess which is which.
The “phase” insulation has brown (or black) color; grounding can be identified by the yellow braid, and “zero” is usually blue. In high-quality chandelier models, the wires are always marked in different colors so that there is no need to “ring” where the phase is and where the zero is. Then your task comes down to connecting the wiring to the lamp cables - by color.
If all three cables look the same, you will have to empirically determine where the “phase” is located. It can be identified by applying an indicator screwdriver to each wire in turn. When the light comes on, this cable is the “phase”. Although this popular method is far from safe, it is better to use a special tester. To avoid confusion, mark the cables with a multi-colored marker or electrical tape.

When it is planned to install a lamp with the most simple controls– a single-key switch is enough. The lighting circuit assembly diagram is as follows:

Single switch

If you want to be able to turn on each lamp individually (or all together) - put two-gang switch. Then the connection diagram will look like this (for example, a chandelier with three light bulbs is taken).

Double switch

By analogy, a switch with three keys is installed.
Before twisting (or terminal connection), strip 3-4 cm of insulation from the wire. Do this carefully so as not to damage individual wiring. It is better to use a special insulation stripping tool for this.
Now you can connect the lamp; it will be correct to first connect the “zero” ones and then the “phase” ones. If you have three wires in the circuit (i.e., additional grounding is laid), then the corresponding cables with yellow insulation are also simply connected in pairs.

How to hang a lamp correctly and with your own hands so that there is good lighting, which, in turn, will create coziness and comfort in your home?

If you follow safety rules, you can hang the lamp on the ceiling or wall yourself, without calling an electrician.

To install the wall light you will need the following:

  • lamp;
  • switch;
  • a piece of cable;
  • pliers or pliers;
  • drill or hammer drill;
  • tester;
  • dowels;
  • screws;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver.
The lamp is attached directly to the wall with the back side

Before hanging the lamp on the wall, determine the location on the wall by marking it with a pencil.

Important!

Before installing the lamp, turn off the power supply to the house. Using a tester (voltage indicator), we check the exposed ends of the wires to which the lamp is attached.

We drill marks on the wall with a drill or hammer drill.

Sconce - a lamp distant from the wall

We hammer dowels into the hole, and then attach the lampshade with screws to them. metal plate(fittings) and bracket, that is, everything that is included in the wall lamp kit.

Turn on the electricity and check the wires coming out of the wall with a voltage indicator. Which wire is with phase and which is neutral. This must be done in order to properly install the lamp into the wall.

Tip: in order not to forget which wire is which, you can cover them with pieces of electrical tape. different color.

Then you need to connect the wires that come out of the wall with the wires of the lamp. The tester will help you determine which phase wire to connect the lamp socket to.

The main installation process is complete. Now you can hang directly the lamp itself and the light bulb.

Installation of the lamp is completed

In the same way, you can hang a lamp and sconce above the sofa in the living room, above the table or in the kitchen.

How to hang a lamp on a plasterboard wall

Wall Light It is attached to a plasterboard wall in almost the same way. There are just some nuances, which will be discussed below:

  1. To attach the lamp to plasterboard wall use special spring dowels with screws or hooks. They are also called "umbrella". In no case should you use nails, since the dowels roll into a knot in the wall and do not fall through drilled hole, and nails will only damage it.
  2. In addition to dowels, special screws are required. They should be the following size depending on the length of the dowel + the thickness of the mounted elements of the lamp + 10 mm.

lamp suspended from a plasterboard wall

How to hang a lamp on the ceiling

Ceiling lamps come in three types: surface-mounted, pendant and recessed and have different variants ceiling mounts.

Hanging with a hook

For a long time this was the only way to hang a lamp, since recessed lamps had not yet been invented. In the very center of the room there was a hole in the ceiling from which wires hung and a metal hook installed in the ceiling. A lighting fixture was hung from a metal hook.

And today this option for installing a ceiling lamp is relevant. After connecting the wires coming out of the ceiling with the wires of the device, cover the hole and hook decorative element lamp

If there is no hook, install it yourself. To do this you need the following:

  1. Drill a hole in the ceiling with a drill or hammer drill near the power cable outlet.
  2. Drive a plastic dowel into the drilled hole.
  3. Screw the hook into the dowel. The last one must be threaded!

Before assembling the ceiling light and hanging it, wrap the hook itself several times with electrical tape, or put a plastic tube on it. This is necessary so that the hook does not come into contact with the metal parts of the lamp.

Hook for hanging the lamp from the ceiling

Hanging with a cross or bar

In most cases, lamps are suspended from the ceiling using a cross or strip.

Pendant lights are built into the wall. It is better to hang suspended lamps on drywall.

The ceiling fixture is mounted as follows:

  1. The crosspiece or plank is applied to the ceiling at the marks.
  2. Then, using a puncher or drill, holes are made along these marks.

  1. In the form of a hook. A chandelier with such a mount will be hung on a hook, securely
  2. screwed into the ceiling.
  3. In the form of a plank. In this case, the plank is firmly mounted in the ceiling, and then the chandelier is attached to it.

Both fastening options are the most common, and their installation is quite simple and does not require special skills. Very often the hook is installed in the ceiling during the construction of the house.

Installing a chandelier on a ceiling hook

If a ceiling hook is not provided, you can install it yourself as follows:

  • Drill a hole;
  • Screw a metal anchor into it;
  • Screw in the hook;
  • Insulate the hook with electrical tape. This procedure is carried out for safety reasons.

Cross bar mounting

The cross strip is, in fact, a type of mounting strip. Its advantage is that due to its larger coverage area and more holes for which it is attached to the ceiling, the cross bar better holds massive chandeliers. Thanks to these factors, it is a better holder than a regular bar.

Attaching the hook to the hole

Installing a chandelier on a suspended or suspended ceiling

The connection diagram for a chandelier on a ceiling made of plasterboard is slightly different from installation on a regular ceiling. If you need to fix a heavy chandelier on a hook, then make a small hole in the drywall through which the hook will be mounted into the concrete surface. This is not difficult to do using a special attachment for, for example, a wood crown. The hook cannot be attached directly to suspended or suspended ceilings.

If a small device is mounted using a strip, then installation can be done using plastic or metal fastenings onto the sheet of drywall itself.

Features of installation on a suspended or suspended ceiling

It is better to take care of the mounting for the chandelier before installing the new ceiling, since it is very difficult to do a high-quality installation of a lighting fixture on such a ceiling, especially if the chandelier is intended to be installed independently. The fact is that when creating a hole in a stretch ceiling, the fabric or film begins to creep apart over time.

For a chandelier installed on such a ceiling, only LED bulbs, since ordinary light bulbs cause stains on the ceiling.
