Attach window blinds. Installing blinds on a plastic window - do-it-yourself installation features. Installation of horizontal structures

It is not always convenient to use curtains. In some cases, blinds are more practical and convenient. They make it possible not only to protect yourself from immodest glances in the evenings, but also to regulate the level of illumination during the day by turning the slats (plates). We will talk about how to install blinds on plastic windows in this publication.

Designs and installation methods

There are two types of blinds for windows - vertical and horizontal. Vertical slats are usually made of plastic or special dense fabric, cut into strips 10-15 cm wide. Less commonly, you can find slats made of aluminum or synthetic threads.

The slats of horizontal blinds come in plastic, wood and metal. Regardless of the type and material, they consist of a cornice and slats. Cornice - plastic or aluminum profile U-shaped section in which the controls are located and from which the lamellas are suspended. Lamels are horizontal or vertical stripes/plates that actually cover the opening. In order to be able to open and close the blinds, there are controls - chains or threads.

In horizontal models there is also a control rod associated with rotating mechanism. By rotating the rod, the angle of inclination of the lamellas is changed. This is how you can change the amount of light and the “degree of transparency” of the window. If the slats are placed vertically (almost), they completely block the view. When positioned horizontally, they hardly interfere with the view, but there are many other positions.

Installation of horizontal and vertical blinds

When installing blinds, you need to attach the cornice. To fix it, the kit includes specially designed brackets. These brackets are attached to the window or wall, and the cornice is simply put on them (until it clicks).

There are several ways to install blinds on sash windows:

You will have to decide on the method of installing the blinds before purchasing: the size of the canvas depends on this. So the type of installation must be chosen before taking measurements.

We take measurements

You need to decide on the type of blinds (horizontal, vertical) and the method of installing them (on a wall, on a ceiling, in a sash window, in a window opening) before purchasing. And even before you start measuring. Because different installation methods require different sizes. Only with correct measurements will it be easy to install blinds on plastic windows.

Another important point: Each window must be measured separately. Sometimes it just seems like they are absolutely the same. Believe me, there is a difference. You also need to write down the measurement results and sign which specific window you measured and which sash it is. Accurate and detailed records will help avoid confusion during purchase and installation.

In the window opening

Although the appearance of the products is different, when measuring there is no difference between horizontal and vertical models. If you are going to install blinds in a window opening, you need to subtract 2 cm from its width on each side. You can subtract 1-3 cm from the height of the opening. Such gaps are needed so that the canvas hangs freely in the opening and the lower edge of the slats does not rub against the window sill.

Please note that you can install blinds on plastic windows “in the opening” not flush with the edge of the opening, but deeper - near the glass itself or by stepping back 5 or more centimeters from the edge. If the opening has a trapezoidal shape, the height/width of the opening will be smaller for the glass, so we take careful measurements. And also, in this case, it is better to put marks for installation when measuring. Then you will know exactly where you will need to install blinds on plastic windows so that their dimensions fit perfectly.

On the ceiling or wall

Here the measurements depend on your desires. The length of the blinds can be up to the floor or just up to the window sill. Moreover, depending on the type of installation chosen, the slats can cover the window sill or not. So the length is whatever you like.

This is wall mounting. When mounted on the ceiling, the length will increase, but how much is up to you

The width of the blinds with this installation method is wider than the window opening. How much wider depends on your desire, but the minimum offset is 5 cm on each side. But if the window is in the same plane as the wall surface, you will need additional brackets, which are not included in the package: the slats must be placed at a distance of at least 5 cm from the glass surface so that they do not interfere with opening the doors for ventilation.

On the doors

When installing blinds on a multi-leaf window, there are two options - install one device on each sash or order one long one for the entire window. Usually the first option is chosen - it makes it possible to open and close the shutters with the blinds lowered. If you choose this installation method, you will need to measure each sash and record the results. The doors may be different, so be careful.

The width of the blinds when installed on the shutters is taken to be 3 cm wider than the glass. When hanging, the lamellas overlap the profile by 1.5 cm. This is convenient and does not interfere with opening/closing windows. The length depends on the location of the fastener, but usually it is 5 cm longer than the height of the glass.

Once again we draw your attention: we measure each sash!

How to install blinds on plastic windows: attach to a wall or window opening

The first step is to apply markings. We install brackets in the cornice. We place them on the right and left so that they do not interfere with the operation of the blinds. The installation height depends on the selected product length.

We attach the curtains, mark with a pencil on the wall the places for installing fasteners in the brackets. If we mount horizontal blinds(they are light and create almost no load), it is enough to install one screw/dowel. Vertical ones are heavier, so you need to install all the fasteners from the kit.

There is a second way. At the selected level, use a building level to draw a horizontal line, try to avoid tilting - this will affect the blinds (skew). Place the bottom of the bracket against this line and use a pencil to mark the holes for drilling. If the length of the cornice is more than 2 m, an additional bracket is required to increase the rigidity of the structure, which is attached in the middle.

When attaching to brick or concrete, drill holes in the wall or ceiling at the marked points. A drill or a hammer drill - whoever has what is available. The diameter of the drill depends on the size of the dowels. They usually come included, but you can supply your own.

We insert spacer dowels into the finished holes and carefully hammer them in with a hammer. We install the brackets, fasten them with screws or nails (if dowel-nails are used). We install the cornice on the brackets and insert the plugs on the sides. For horizontal blinds, attach a rod (handle) to control the swing mechanism. To do this, install a special hook (included) directly into the mechanism itself, and attach the tip of the rod to this hook.

Installation of horizontal blinds on PVC window sashes

With this installation method, the blinds are attached with small self-tapping screws (included in the kit) to the window profile. They must be installed so that they do not interfere with the handle turning. Be careful: if you drill too close to the bead, you can damage the glass unit. Therefore, in this case, correct measurements are very important.

Installation step by step

The procedure is as follows:

Having to drill holes in a window frame can be intimidating, but it's no big deal. In case of incorrectly made holes, the unsuccessful ones can be filled with sealant. White silicone, not acrylic (acrylic quickly turns yellow). The performance of the windows will not be affected. What can be dangerous is getting into a double glazed window. Then it may crack. But this is not fatal either - it can be replaced, although it will not be cheap.

We install the lower clamps

But that is not all. To finally install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, you need to drill a couple more holes - for the clamps (also called anti-wind). These are additional fastenings at the bottom of the opening window sash. The lower edge of the blinds is tucked into them. They do this so that when ventilating, the blinds do not hang down, dangle in the wind, or knock over objects on the windowsill.

Don't hang out...

We install the clamps like this: we try them on, pulling the blinds down a little, mark the fastening points, drill holes, and install them. Refueling bottom bar into the installed clamps. Now, even with a draft or an open shutter, the blinds will not dangle. The only thing you need to watch out for during installation is not to get caught in the glazing bead (this is a long strip that runs along the glass unit and holds it in place). It is necessary to drill a hole in the frame itself, stepping back at least 1 cm from the edge. Otherwise there are no problems.

No drilling

There is also a way to install blinds on plastic windows without drilling the frame. This method is only available for those blinds that are hung on opening sashes. In this case, they are simply hung on plastic mounts/brackets, which are placed on the frame from above. To prevent them from moving, there is a strip attached to the back of the bracket double sided tape. After removing the protective film, you can glue it (but you don’t have to fix it).

These L-shaped plastic brackets are not included, but can be purchased at a store or company that sells horizontal blinds. This method is convenient simple dismantling blinds, which is convenient if they need to be repaired or washed.

Assembly of vertical blinds

Vertical blinds are installed exactly as described above. The difference is that the slats are installed after the cornice (the guide along which the runners move) has been secured. For convenience, before attaching the slats, you can use an adjustment cord to turn the sliders so that the slots in them are perpendicular to the cornice. Next, we simply snap the slats into the runners, inserting the strip until it clicks. So, we fasten all the slats one by one.

If the slats are made of fabric, then after installing them do not forget to insert the lower weight. Next, we attach the lower connecting chain to the lamellas.

The installation of vertical blinds is complete.

Specialization: master in construction plasterboard structures, finishing works and styling floor coverings. Installation of door and window units, finishing of facades, installation of electrical, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

If you need high-quality window protection from sunlight or prying eyes, then the most simple solution will be installing blinds on the windows. This option has a number of advantages: low cost, ease of installation and the ability to purchase products of any size. In this review, we will figure out how you can attach the structure; there are different methods for carrying out the work, so you will definitely find the right one.

Overview of mounting options

Now let's move directly to the workflow. When installing different ways The size of the blinds varies within significant limits. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you first read this section, choose the method that is most suitable, and only then order blinds according to the recommendations that will be given in the corresponding paragraph.

There is no need to rush; in construction and renovation this always leads to unnecessary costs or problems during work. Only after understanding all the nuances, proceed to choosing the product and its installation.

Method 1 - fastening inside the opening

A very common solution that is characterized by a fairly simple workflow and is highly reliable. Installing blinds with your own hands plastic window can be done in several ways:

  • On the top of the window frame, this is a very popular solution due to its simplicity;
  • On the wall above the window, if the space in the opening allows this;
  • On the top of the opening, if it is not possible to use any of the above methods.

If you decide to use this particular option, then here are recommendations on how to choose the optimal size of blinds:

  • The width of the system should be 4 cm less than the width of the opening, that is, you should have 2 cm gaps on both sides. This is necessary not only for the free movement of the structure, but also for the normal fastening of the upper box, since it can be wider than the lamellas themselves;

  • The height of the system should be 2 cm less than the height of the opening. But there is important nuance– if one or two doors open, then the box should be positioned so as not to interfere with the operation of the structure. If this does not work, then it is better to use the option of mounting on the doors, which we will describe below.

To carry out the work we will need the following:

Equipment Description
Mounting brackets
Blinds You must purchase a ready-made kit in sizes taking into account the recommendations described above. Usually the structure is assembled and you only need to make sure that the cord is not tangled
Mounting brackets Most often they come included, but sometimes you need to purchase them separately. For example, if you are mounting the system to the ceiling, then a wall bracket may not be suitable, although many modern manufacturers include universal elements that can be used for any type of work.
Screwdriver With its help, self-tapping screws will be tightened; if you fix the blinds on the frame, then no other power tools will be needed
Hammer It is necessary when drilling an opening for installing dowels, with which the mounting brackets will be fixed. Naturally, the kit must include a drill of the appropriate diameter and length
Measuring tool Of course, you can’t do without markings; a level, ruler or tape measure and pencil are used for the work. It is important to place the blinds level, so do not do the work by eye

Now let's figure out how to install the structure correctly:

  • First you need to unpack the blinds, make sure that everything is in order and there is no damage. Then the box is tried on the opening, you must check if everything is in order and if all the dimensions match, it won’t take much time, but everything will definitely be in order. If the shutters at the window open, then be sure to check whether the frame does not interfere with their movement, do not miss other little things like handles on the windows, blinds should not rest against them;

  • Using a level, you need to mark the horizontal on the surface; just put a couple of dots or strokes so that you can refer to them as you work. Next, attach the brackets and mark the points for drilling the holes; if you are attaching to a wall or the top of the opening, if you are fixing to a frame, you must also put the points in in the right places;
  • If you need to drill holes, then this part of the work is done, after which plastic dowels are inserted, creating holes for the screws that will secure the fasteners. In cases where you are attaching to PVC, you can immediately screw special screws into the plastic; they fit well into the material. It is much easier to work with a screwdriver, although a regular screwdriver will do;

  • If the brackets are installed correctly, then fixing the container with blinds in them will not be difficult; it simply snaps into the fastening elements. The structure must be held securely and not move at the attachment points;
  • Lastly, the operation of the system is checked; everything should move easily, without any problems or obstacles.

Method 2 – fastening from outside the opening

Now let's figure out how to install the blinds outside the opening yourself. This option is suitable for cases where the window is not recessed deeply into the wall and if you need to darken the room as best as possible, there are two mounting methods:

  • If the window is located deep, then the structure is installed on the wall above the opening;
  • When the window is flush with the wall or slightly recessed, the installation is carried out on special brackets;
  • Sometimes the fastening is made to, such a system is more often used in vertical blinds due to their large size.

Now let's figure out how to determine optimal sizes blinds in in this case:

  • The width of the product should be 10 cm larger than the width of the opening, so that on each side the system extends onto the walls by at least 5 cm, this will ensure high-quality darkening. The height can be 10 cm more than the opening if the window sill does not protrude, or the size is calculated individually if there is a protrusion;

When hanging the box, do not forget that it should not interfere with the opening of the doors; the easiest way is to place it along the top line of the opening.

  • If the window is located flush with the wall and the blinds are mounted at a distance from the wall, then the width of the structure should be at least 20 cm wider than the opening to ensure high-quality darkening. As for the height, it is determined based on whether the system will go below the opening or will lie on the window sill.

The following list of tools is required for work:

  • A hammer drill with a drill of the required size;
  • Level and pencil for marking;
  • A screwdriver or screwdriver for tightening fasteners.

The work instructions look like this:

  • First, you need to place the blinds against the opening to make sure that you have not made a mistake with the width. Using a level, marks are made in the right places, after which you need to determine the exact position of the mounting brackets and mark the points at which these elements will be attached to the wall;

  • Drilling is done at marked points, so as not to constantly check the depth, wrap electrical tape around the drill in the required place and use it as a guide when working, so you will not make the holes too deep or too shallow;

If your structure is more than one and a half meters wide, then it should be hung not on two, but on three brackets to ensure the necessary rigidity and strength. At large sizes It is better to use aluminum products; they are less susceptible to deformation and retain clear geometry for many years.

  • Attaching the brackets is quick and easy if you make the holes in the right places. The working process is simple: first, plastic dowels are inserted and pressed until they stop, after which the load-bearing elements are attached and fixed using the screws included in the kit. They can either be screwed in or simply driven in with a hammer, the reliability of the fastening does not suffer from this;
  • The last step is this: you need to insert the container into the latches, make sure that it is securely fixed, after which you can begin to check the functionality of the system.

Method 3 - fastening to the sashes using clamps

Now let's figure out how to install plastic blinds for plastic windows, although the process is similar for products made from other materials. This option is perfect for windows in which one or more sashes open, individual elements for each half of the glazing, which allows you to open not the entire opening, but part of it. In addition, such solutions do not interfere with the opening of windows, which is also important.

Fastening is always done on the frame, and you can do it as indicated in the first method - using self-tapping screws. But this solution has one significant drawback: if you decide to remove the blinds, then there will be holes on the surface, which are unlikely to be eliminated. Therefore, it is better to use the technology from this section, then the frames will remain intact.

Let's consider how to determine the optimal sizes of blinds in this case:

  • The width of the structure should be 3 cm greater than the width of the glazing, that is, the overlap on the frame is 1.5 cm. It is important that the system does not rest against the handle and does not interfere with opening the window;
  • The height should be 3-5 cm greater than the height of the glass unit.

In this case, we will need the following set of materials:

  • Blinds in finished form with a U-shaped top;
  • Plastic clips that are specially configured to attach to the frame and snap into the blind frame;
  • Bottom holders that will fix the blinds in a tense position and will not allow them to sag, even if the window is open.

As for the tools, we don’t need anything at all - just our hands and the desire to carry out the installation without outside help.

Installation of blinds on a plastic window is carried out using the following technology:

  • First you need to open the sash and wipe it with a cloth, the structure should be clean;
  • The latches are placed on the frame on both sides of the sash with a distance from the edges of at least a few centimeters, if the width is large or the blinds are massive, then three fastening elements can be used;
  • Lastly, under outer part holders, the blind box is wound until it clicks. The latch protrusion should fit into the groove as shown in the diagram below, everything is quite simple and easy;

  • Lastly, clamps are installed at the bottom of the frame. Here it is important to clearly mark their position so that the open blinds are taut and not dangling. When the marking is completed, you can attach the elements using self-tapping screws or using double-sided tape so as not to damage the window profile.

Method 4 – mounting on universal brackets

This option is similar to the one described above, but it also has a number of differences, so it should be considered separately. It also does not require drilling of the shutters, no tools are needed for operation, and the main fastening element is a universal mount, which is suitable for blinds, roller and pleated curtains. That is, you get a platform on which you can attach different systems.

The list of materials and the measurement process are no different from the option described above, so we will start immediately with the installation process. The work is carried out in the following sequence:

  • First, you need to clean the surface from dust and degrease it; this will allow us to secure our elements as securely as possible;
  • Then you need to glue double-sided tape to the back of the clamps. Available in stores different variants, choose better products that are designed for fastening heavy objects, so as not to worry about the reliability of the structure;

  • The bracket is inserted into the mounting platform if necessary; if you are attaching the structure to a blind sash, then the latch is not needed. This is a very big plus, since in the previous case it was impossible to attach blinds to blind sashes without self-tapping screws;
  • Then a bracket of the configuration we need is attached to the base; short self-tapping screws are used for the job so that they do not protrude from the back side;
  • Next, the elements are glued to the surface in the required places, and in the case of opening doors, they are also snapped onto the upper end;
  • Lastly, the blind box is secured - and the structure is ready for use, everything is simple and quick.

If you are thinking about how to install plastic blinds on windows, then this option is perfect, because the design is light in weight and double-sided tape will easily hold it in place.

Conclusion

Installation of blinds can be carried out without hiring specialists; any of the above-described options for carrying out the work can be done even by an inexperienced craftsman. The video in this article will help you understand the topic even better, and if you have additional questions, write them in the comments below.

Installing blinds on windows - not so much difficult process, you can do it yourself. Exist various ways fastenings for different types of curtains and each of them has its own installation nuances.

Mounting methods

There are three types of fastening blinds: to the wall, to the ceiling, directly to the frame, and two ways - with and without drilling. The universal basis of any fastening is the cornice, which is attached to the wall, frame or ceiling in different ways.

With drilling

Fastening is carried out using self-tapping screws and brackets on which the cornice and fishing line are installed. Additionally, you will need a pencil, ruler, drill, and screwdriver.

First you need to make markings in the places where the brackets will be located. For reliability and accuracy, it is necessary to drill holes for the clamps in the marked places. Then, applying the brackets one by one to the PVC frame, use a screwdriver to secure them to the markings. Next, the cornice is installed and the entire structure is assembled.

No drilling

If you plan to replace blinds or other window decoration options in the future, it is not recommended to damage plastic windows. The holes from the screws will remain in the frame forever and will significantly spoil the appearance of the windows. In this case, it is easier to turn to a method that does not require drilling.

In this case, the brackets are attached in two ways:

  • behind the top of the PVC profile on opening sashes(you can simply hang it like a hook);
  • on double-sided tape, which can be glued without fear of leaving marks.

Mounting blinds on the balcony requires a special approach. Plays an important role here balcony design. The type of glazing determines the possibility of choosing certain blinds and the method of their fastening.

In general, almost all options are available for balconies. Special attention In this case, you should pay attention to the type of blinds, since not all of them are universal for different types of windows.

For example, horizontal blinds are not suitable for a balcony with sliding windows, as they can become deformed during use or from strong winds.

The nuances of installing different types of blinds

Horizontal

The light-protective design with horizontal lamellas has become familiar, almost classic for window design. Advantages:

  • Compactness. Installed directly on the window, leaving the window sill free. This saves space and allows you to place greenery on the window in favorable conditions.
  • Light weight structure.
  • Strength and rigidity of the lamellas, preventing deformation.
  • Fire safety.

  • Simple control mechanism.
  • Special coating or impregnation against dust, dirt, odors and grease.
  • Resistance to humidity and temperature changes.
  • Various materials for making lamellas: wood, plastic, aluminum, less often fabric.
  • Easy installation.
  • Affordable price.

Some disadvantages are worth mentioning:

  • When mounted on a frame, the angle of inclination is limited window sashes when opening.
  • The slats produce a characteristic knocking or ringing sound when the wind blows. To avoid this, you need to purchase lower fasteners, which are not included in the kit and quickly become unusable.
  • The structure is subject to repair in case of severe deformation of several lamellas, but it will cost the same as new blinds.
  • Not suitable for balconies and loggias with sliding windows.

Vertical

Blinds, as the name already implies, are a simple and convenient light-protective structure consisting of longitudinal vertical plates.

They are distinguished from horizontal ones by:

  • More aesthetic appearance. Horizontal blinds are more likely to be functional, while vertical blinds are decorative.
  • Possibility to cover large area one cornice. Horizontal blinds, as a rule, consist of narrow slats and are designed for minimalistic decoration of small windows. Vertical models have different widths and easily cover the area of large windows, arches and doorways.
  • Variety of materials. They can be made of wood fibers, wood, aluminum, bamboo, plastic, woven and non-woven fabric, mirror, blackout, thread. The abundance of materials provides another advantage - variability of colors and textures.
  • Modern and original design window, opening up more design possibilities.

  • Simplicity of control mechanisms. Both mechanical and electrical are possible.
  • Possibility to place photo printing on curtains due to the larger surface and best characteristics material.
  • Practicality. Larger slats are easier to wipe when necessary, which occurs infrequently. If in case heavy pollution For example, in a children's room, the slats will still need to be subjected to hygienic procedures; this will not take much time - they can be washed by hand and in a washing machine.
  • Possibility of installation on non-standard windows(triangle, trapezoid, arch, bay window).
  • The structure is subject to repair. To replace a particular part, you do not need to call a specialist; the repair is simple enough to do it yourself. You can replace the lamellas one at a time without dismantling the entire structure.

Rolled

Roller blinds and roller shutters are solid canvases, often made of textiles, but other materials are also possible that roll up like horizontal blinds.

The height can be adjusted by fixing the curtain with a weighting agent on the bottom strip of the canvas.

Exist different types roller shutters: with an open drum (for fastening directly to the window) and with a decorative cornice; “mini” for installation on each frame separately and “roll-cassette” for covering the entire window.

There is an opinion that roller blinds are the most budget-friendly and practical option window decoration, but this is not entirely true.

Of course, roller shutters have their advantages: a variety of natural and synthetic fabrics, colors and patterns, ease of care (allowed wet cleaning) and operation, the ability to fix the curtain at the desired height, special impregnations against dust, moisture, high temperatures and glare, compatibility with other types of curtains.

A roller blind is convenient if you need to hide a room from the sun, or decorate a window with beautiful tulle so that from the street you cannot see what is happening inside.

But with so many advantages, curtains also have significant disadvantages:

  • The budget price is a misconception. Yes, a medium-sized curtain itself made from a common material will be inexpensive, but it will look boring. In order for the window design to be complete, it is necessary to consider additional decor, and this increases the cost several times.
  • Roller blinds in the bedroom, office and rooms with high windows need electrical control. Electric drive designs are expensive, and some manufacturers also produce noise.

  • It is impossible to make custom-made curtains from certain textiles. You can only choose specific products of a certain brand, since the range of fabrics for the production of roller blinds is very limited: translucent, textured, reflective, perforated, blackout.
  • The maximum width of roller blinds is 280-300 cm, that is, to cover a large area with one cornice, for example, panoramic window or the balcony will not work.
  • There may be problems with installation not on the wall, but in the window opening, since the bobbin is wider in width than the curtain itself. On the sides window openings There will inevitably be gaps. Ceiling or wall mounting is preferable.

Pleated

This type of blinds is similar to both horizontal and roller blinds. The design consists of a control mechanism (chain or electric drive), weights, and pleated fabric that resembles accordion bellows. The range of materials, colors and textures is very diverse.

Peculiarities:

  • They close from top to bottom, like classic canvases, from bottom to top, or from both sides at the same time. In this case, the degree of density of the “accordion” can be adjusted, thus closing either the upper, lower, or central part of the window.
  • Suitable for curtains windows of irregular shape.
  • Optimal solution for attic, attic, ceiling and inclined windows.
  • “Opening”, the canvas compactly gathers into a fold and hides inside the cornice.

  • Convenient for installation on all types of windows and double glazed windows.
  • Various mounting methods and control mechanisms (manual and electric).
  • The woven fabric is washable.
  • The curtain fabric can be made of two types of fabric at the same time, which makes it possible to regulate the degree of transparency, darkness, and sun protection.
  • Easy installation you can do it yourself.

Kinds

  • Classic. By appearance They are most similar to horizontal blinds, however, they can also be vertical. Made from fabric, paper or plastic. Designed for room darkening, protection from heating by sunlight, zoning internal space premises.

  • Inclined. A type of pleated specifically for windows that are located at an angle in the attic or ceiling. Their peculiarity is in a specific assembly system, which does not allow the canvas of any material to sag when at an angle. Mostly inclined models are produced with electronic control.

  • Corrugated. This type is a vertical and horizontal double pleat. As a result, the folds look smoother, neater and denser. Corrugation made of plastic and paper in this design absorbs a significant part of the heat and protects from bright light.

  • Arched. The most flexible canvases that take any shape, like a paper fan. Good decision for rooms with non-standard form windows (arches, trapezoids, triangles, beveled windows).

  • "Day Night". The fabric of such blinds consists of two layers of fabric: light, light-transmitting fabric for daytime use, and thick, dark fabric for protection from the bright sun during the day and prying eyes in the evening.

Cassette

Such systems involve either the use of horizontal slats or a solid fabric, but are not horizontal blinds or roller blinds.

They differ in the types of cassettes (angular, round, flat), controls ( different kinds mechanical and remote), materials used (plastic, textiles, bamboo, aluminum).

Their main feature consists in a design whose special structure makes it possible to fix the blinds at a minimum distance from the window glass. This prevents deformation, sagging, wrinkles and unevenness, and completely opens the window sill.

Advantages:

  • Compactness. Cassette blinds take up minimal space, leaving owners the opportunity to use their imagination and organize additional window decoration or leave the window sill as a functional surface.
  • Simple and clear type of control.
  • Long term services. Special impregnation protects the canvas from dust, grease, dirt, moisture, and abrasion.
  • Ease of hygiene procedures. Cassette systems do not require special care. It is enough to wipe their small surface area with a damp sponge and soapy water once every few months.

  • A variety of designs for interiors in any style.
  • The tight fit of the canvas to the surface of the glass protects equally well from heat and cold.
  • Possibility to install the system yourself.
  • A variety of materials - from light window decoration to total blackout protection.
  • Possibility to combine blinds with curtains, tulle, lambrequin.

Measurements and tools

The final result depends on how correctly the measurements are taken. Even expensive ones beautiful models will not look good on the window if there are gaps in the opening or the edges of the slats constantly ride up against the wall.

It is important to pay attention to the following points:

  • For the most accurate indicators A steel tape measure and metal screws are used.
  • The resulting numbers cannot be rounded., accuracy must be maintained down to millimeters.
  • When ordering blinds The width parameter is indicated first, the length parameter – second.
  • Not a single standard window opening has absolutely ideal geometric shapes, therefore measurements in height and width must be made at least at two points.

Horizontal

If you plan to attach blinds to the movable half of the window, you will need to measure the gap between the glazing beads and add at least 30 mm, which will prevent gaps from appearing in the structure. The height of the blinds is equal to the height of the window sash. For installation inside a window opening, measurements are required at three points in height and width, since openings are not always absolutely proportional.

The width is identical to the wide side of the glass plus the thickness of the rubber seal. The length is identical to the height of the window (including elastic bands) with a margin of 1 cm. To install the cornice, an additional 30-40 cm will be required to the slopes and hinges. The control chain is 2/3 of the window height. When choosing to fix the cornice on the wall, the width parameter increases by 10 cm, the height is measured from the point of attachment of the brackets to the floor at random.

Vertical

When installing in a window opening, you need to determine the width at the top of the arch and subtract 20 mm. To determine the height, compare the height of the left and right side arches, subtract 1cm from the smaller value. For wall mount you need to add at least 10 cm to the wide side of the slope. The length of the slats can be any, but it is recommended to retreat 2 cm from the edge of the blinds to the floor. Ceiling installation implies determining the height (to the floor or window sill) minus 2 cm, it is recommended to increase the width of the arch by 100+ mm.

Rolled

To install canvases to the wall, only one measurement is required - from the edge of the window sill to the markings for the brackets, and the width can be up to 300 cm. In the window arch, roller blinds are installed after measuring the width, from which you need to subtract 4 centimeters, and the length of the canvas is equal to the height of the window minus 15 mm.

Pleated curtains similarly do not require a professional approach to taking measurements and installation.

How to hang it on the wall yourself?

Installation work window design requires certain skills and experience, but if you want to try it yourself, you need to take into account some of the nuances and features of this work. Installation of blinds begins long before preparation work surface and a set of tools.

The first step of this process is an informed decision regarding the type and variety of blinds, material, color and texture, depending on the functionality of the room.

Thus, it is more advisable to choose vertical blinds for the living room that let in light, for the bedroom - automatic electric roller blinds made of blackout fabric, and for the kitchen, where cooking smells and food combustion products are constantly in the air - plastic blinds that do not absorb grease and dirt.

The second important point is the correct marking. A lot depends on it, including how easy the installation process will be.

If all the architectural features of window openings are taken into account by specialists when ordering blinds from them, everything will go easily and smoothly without the help of professional installers. It is also important to consider whether it will be possible to open the window after installation, how the light protection devices will work, and whether there is a risk of their deformation.

The installation of blinds must be carried out exactly with the markings and subsequent verification of the functionality of the structure. The most important point here is the choice between fastening - with or without drilling. It is also necessary to provide for the type of control.

For low windows great solution is one of the types of mechanical control. Magnetic, automatic (electric) control with an electric drive is suitable for roof and inclined windows, windows in the bedroom.

Ceiling installation instructions

  • First of all, you need to mount the blinds, assemble the brackets and install them on the reel. Then this structure must be fixed to the ceiling in order to mark for fastening.

  • The second step is to attach the brackets with adhesive tape at the top of the frame and the string tensioner at the bottom. It is not necessary to pre-attach them with tape, but it is advisable to eliminate problems with subsequent drilling of holes for screws. After installing the guide string, the curtain itself is mounted into the mechanisms.

What is the best way to install automatic electric window blinds?

Automatic blinds are the most convenient way to decorate a window yourself.

They are attached in three ways: to the ceiling, to the frame with drilling, to the frame without drilling. In all cases, the fastener is a cornice with decorative facade or without it.

The brackets on which the structure is supported are fastened with self-tapping screws, hung or glued with double-sided tape.

The special tape, despite its seeming impracticality, is fixed very firmly, so it is important to correctly apply the markings for installing the brackets. Once they are glued, moving them will be very problematic.

Installation procedure:

  • Preparing tools. You will need a stepladder, a set of self-tapping screws from the kit, a building level and drawing supplies, a drill, and a screwdriver.
  • Applying pencil markings for installing brackets. To securely fix the fasteners, it is recommended to drill holes for self-tapping screws at the same stage.
  • Attaching the brackets in a suitable way(with or without drilling).
  • Installation of cornice.
  • Installation of slats. To do this, you need to pull the control cord on which the fastenings for the slats are located so that they are in the desired position. Then fix all the slats on the hooks of the fasteners.

How to attach cassette tapes yourself?

You can also install cassette blinds yourself. Before installation, you must read the instructions to make sure fully equipped, prepare everything necessary tools: screwdriver, drawing tools, screwdriver, drill, cotton pads or small piece of cloth, degreaser.

When everything you need has been collected, you can proceed to the first stage - degreasing the glazing beads. Then you need to remove the side covers of the box, lift it to the top of the frame, focusing on the guide protrusions, drill holes for fastenings, and secure with screws.

You can use a screwdriver for this purpose, or you can perform the process manually using a Phillips screwdriver.

Once the box is installed, you need to secure the covers to the sides. After this, you can glue the guide strips to the degreased frame. The guides should be several centimeters below the corner of the bead.

We hang aluminum curtains and blinds on sliding windows

For installation you will need a set of tools: wire, drill, Phillips screwdriver, screwdriver, drawing supplies.

The instructions for installing blinds on sliding windows contain a list of items that are carried out step by step:

  • Draw marking line for installation of brackets. It must take into account the distance between the clamps and the control mechanism, between the brackets (from 60 cm) and to the extreme areas on the blinds (25 cm). For large blinds and significant weight, it is recommended to use intermediate fasteners.
  • Drill holes for installing dowels on the surface to which you plan to attach the brackets. It is possible to use blinds on plastic windows without drilling.
  • Installation profile.
  • Fixing the top rod of the blinds on the brackets. It is important to remember that the blinds at this stage are already assembled.

Working with aluminum options on inclined surfaces requires a little more effort and skill.

How to secure the bottom?

The simplest and affordable way for DIY installation - this is a fastening without drilling based on double-sided adhesive tape. Suitable for tilt-and-turn mechanisms on windows.

Performed step by step:

  • Degreasing of frame areas and fasteners, which will be connected with adhesive tape.
  • Marking fastening roller shutters.
  • Installation. The chain mechanism can be installed on any convenient side.
  • Assembly brackets.
  • Marking for fastening brackets. To do this you need to install them on the assembled roller blind, install on the window without fastening, mark with a pencil the places for the adhesive tape, remove the curtain.
  • Applying adhesive tape on the back surface of the brackets, mounting on a window.
  • Installing the guide string against sagging. It is attached to the “ear” of the top bracket and the weighting of the curtain, and at the bottom it is fixed in the tensioner, which is installed on the frame.

This video shows how to hang horizontal blinds with your own hands.

When a room gets a lot of light, it's great, but sometimes there is too much light and it interferes with work or relaxation. Mounting blinds, which can be vertical, horizontal, or roller, will help correct the situation. You can install them yourself or seek the help of professionals.

Installation of products is carried out to the wall, ceiling or directly into the opening. When purchasing blinds, you need to remember some rules.

  1. First of all, you need to determine the exact parameters of the window - width and height.
  2. Decide where the control system will be located.
  3. Find out the optimal type of fastenings for blinds.

Vertical models are usually mounted above the window opening and can serve as curtains. Horizontal and roller ones have more possibilities - they are mounted on the upper slope, on the window, on each sash separately. At the same time, they combine perfectly with any curtains and leave the window sill free. Everyone must determine the product and installation options that are suitable for themselves.

It is best to order blinds from the same company that manufactured the windows.

The standard product set usually includes detailed instructions, telling you how to install it yourself.

Installation methods

Attaching blinds to plastic windows directly depends on the design and functional purpose. Horizontal or rolled products that cover only the glass are attached directly to the frame. In this case, they can function simultaneously or independently of each other. To install vertical blinds on the ceiling, you need to attach a bracket.

The opening flap does not require drilling, since the brackets can be installed using special clamps or double-sided tape. The most reliable and durable installation method is screws, which are screwed in using a screwdriver. It is imperative to take into account that the walls in many rooms are uneven, so determining how to install fasteners for blinds is one of the main factors in the successful completion of the process.

For high-quality installation, you need brackets or brackets, which are usually included in the kit, as well as tools: a Phillips screwdriver, hammer, drill or hammer drill, plumb line, drills, tape measure.
Installation of blinds on brackets is carried out according to a certain algorithm.

  • Make markings at the intended installation location.
  • Hang the blind mount in a certain place: to the ceiling, sash, wall.
  • Turn the mechanism latches all the way counterclockwise, insert the curtain rod, and return the latches to their original position.

Installation of blinds on non-standard openings using drilling occurs differently.

  • Brackets are installed at the top of the frame, and plastic corners are installed at the bottom.
  • It is necessary to secure the cables in special bushings of the upper cornice.
  • Secure the cornice to the brackets.
  • Pass the cable through the holes in the slats.
  • Another pair of bushings must be inserted into the holes in the lower brackets, thread the cable through them and secure.
  • Attach the handle to the structure.
  • Check system functionality.

Installation of fastenings for blinds on inclined windows using screws is carried out in a similar way using drilling.

How to determine the size of blinds?

When installing blinds on large openings, it is imperative to use intermediate elements, which will significantly increase the reliability of the structure. One bracket must be placed next to the control mechanism, since this area is most subject to load. However, it must be taken into account that it should not interfere with the normal functioning of the system.

The width of the blinds installed on the shutters and opening with them must correspond to the parameters of the window plus three centimeters - one and a half on each side. Installation inside the opening involves a canvas four centimeters smaller than the width of the window - two centimeters on each side. For free functioning, a gap is required between the canvas and the upper edge of the opening.

Installation outside the window opening requires the use of a canvas that is ten centimeters larger than the width of the window - five on each side. The length is not less than the height of the window plus ten centimeters. If the window handle protrudes, the blinds are mounted on brackets. In this case, the canvas should be 20 centimeters larger than the width of the opening, which will darken the room more effectively.

Before installing fastenings for blinds, it is necessary to check whether the selected design will not interfere with the normal functioning of the shutters.

Vertical models are mainly attached to the ceiling. They consist of a cornice with a control mechanism and slats made of different materials: plastic, fabric, wood. After installing the cornice, it is necessary to attach the slats, and you must ensure that the seams on the plates are on the inside when the blinds are closed. After installing all the strips, it is necessary to attach the cord that activates the control mechanism, and to prevent it from getting tangled, a special plumb line included in the kit is put on it - it can be of any shape.

The lamellas are easy to cut, so in case of errors in the calculation, the position can be easily corrected using simple tools. Modern manufacturers We do everything possible to reduce the complexity of the process as much as possible. The main thing is to hang the stripes correctly, since all windows have different parameters.

How to choose?

Due to the simplicity of the design, blinds can be manufactured very quickly, and a variety of mounting methods - with or without drilling - allows them to be installed on windows with both rotary and tilting modes of operation. Now it is not at all necessary to drill the frame, and in case of dismantling there will be no unattractive holes left.
Modern manufacturers offer completely new installation methods:

  1. holding magnets that allow the leaf to be positioned parallel to the sash;
  2. double sided tape;
  3. brackets or clamps that are attached to the sash.

Before installing the blinds, it is necessary to check the tightness of the window and make sure that there are no drafts that will rock the structure and interfere with its operation.

The installation method depends on the design and size of the product. When choosing a model, you must take into account functional purpose premises. During work, you must exercise maximum precision and caution, and also determine for yourself the most suitable product, method of installation and operation. It is important to remember that all blinds have strict geometric shapes, therefore, even a slight distortion during installation will spoil the appearance and complicate the operation of the control mechanism.

Today, blinds are one of the most effective elements of decorating the interior space of a room. They gracefully regulate the flow of sunlight, and ease of operation, affordable cost, variety of models and materials used for production have allowed them to remain relevant for decades.

Another factor influencing popularity is easy care, which consists of periodically wiping the slats with a sponge dipped in soapy water. Once a year, the strips should be removed, each one rolled up and placed in water with detergent– the dirt will come off without any additional action. After rinsing, they are hung wet in a place where they will straighten out on their own. Certain types of blinds can only be dry cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

A huge range of products of various configurations and sizes allows you to choose suitable option in each specific case. You can install the products yourself, but this will result in restrictions on warranty service. More reliable option– turn to specialists, this will avoid many difficulties.

Try removing the tulle and curtains - and you will see how empty the room becomes. Nowadays they create a large number of curtain options. It's about not just about fabric. Today, blinds are very often used as curtains. They perfectly protect the house from sun rays and a curious look. These products are easy to install and dismantle. However, some face certain problems: not everyone knows how to install blinds on plastic windows. In this article we will try to understand this in detail.

Kinds

To create coziness, there are more than 10 types of blinds: vertical and horizontal, roller and pleated, attic and interframe, for arches and bay windows, Roman blinds and multi-textured, electric and protective (roller blinds), photo blinds.

Blinds can be wooden, bamboo, metal (aluminium), fabric, plastic, paper.

Ease of use, reliability in operation, affordable price, light-protective properties have led to the fact that horizontal blinds have become one of the most popular types. They are used in the design of windows and other openings (in a variety of rooms). But most often they are used for windows, and in modern world– for plastic options.

Installation features of cassette models

If the owner installs the blinds himself, the manufacturer often refuses warranty obligations. There are quite clear explanations: due to incorrect installation, the shutters may simply not work, which means that the curtains will be unusable. In addition, if installed incorrectly, the glass itself and/or the frame can be damaged.

If you are not confident in your own abilities, then it is better to contact a specialist.

If you decide to do everything yourself, firstly, you need to determine the methods of fastening. Secondly (depending on the chosen method) – purchase blinds. Thirdly, it is necessary to prepare tools and materials.

Mounting methods

There are several mounting methods (depending on the window opening):

  • If the window opening needs to be visually enlarged, then the cassette can be attached to the wall above the opening. The block itself can be much wider window opening, and the height of the structure is much higher than the frame itself. In appearance, these can be full-fledged curtains;
  • If the window opening is wide enough, the window sill is used as an additional (for example, flower) shelf, then in this case the cassette can be attached to the upper slope of the opening - similar to installation on the ceiling. In this case, the window will visually look larger, and on the windowsill, by closing the blinds, you can hide important objects from prying eyes. In addition, with this mounting, the flowers will not be in eternal shade;
  • If the window itself is large enough and does not require visual magnification (or the window sill is narrow), then the blinds can be attached to a fixed window frame, to an opening sash, to glazing.

Necessary materials

Having decided on the mounting method, you should then prepare the necessary tools, including:

  • Roulette. Its length should be sufficient to measure the width and height of the window opening in one step. If you independently report the dimensions of future blinds to the manufacturer, you need to take measurements based on the chosen mounting method. If the cassette will be mounted on the frame itself, then the width of the lamellas (plates) should be 2-3 cm less than it. Otherwise, the blades of individual cassettes will interfere with each other. If you still make a mistake with the dimensions, then keep in mind that even metal lamellas (plates) can be carefully trimmed with ordinary scissors on both sides - to maintain symmetry;
  • Marker or pencil for marking;
  • Phillips screwdrivers and (or) screwdriver;
  • Drill or hammer drill - for attaching to a wall or ceiling;
  • Dowels, screws and brackets;
  • PVA glue or liquid nails - in case the hole is larger than the dowel and needs to be more securely fixed in the wall or ceiling;
  • Pliers;
  • Hammer;
  • Plumb line (for example, from a thread and a bolt);
  • A level that helps to position the structure correctly;
  • Stepladder or work table (chair).

So, the blinds are ready and unpacked. Everything you need is also prepared. Now is the time to start fastening by looking at different fastening methods.

How to hang it on the wall correctly?

When planning to make markings for the brackets on the wall, you need to assemble the blinds, following the instructions:

  • At a distance of approximately 15 cm from the edges of the product, you need to mark the places for fastenings. Do this using a tape measure and a level.

  • The bracket should not be located at the location where the clamp is attached or at the location of the control system, otherwise it will interfere with the operation of the blinds. The distance between the brackets should be no more than 60 cm. As a rule, the width of the cassette block does not exceed 2.2 m. If the window is large, then several panels of blinds are made. The rule remains the same in any case: the wider the block, the more brackets will be required for secure fastening.

  • After installing the brackets, you need to push the latch forward. Carefully (slightly tilting it towards the wall) insert the upper cornice under the bracket latch, press it firmly against the wall and turn the latch all the way to the left by 90 degrees.

  • The lamellas are rotated to the “open-closed” position using the control knob included in the kit. The length of the handle should not exceed 2/3 of the length of the blade. If the handle is longer, then you need to remove it from the frame, open the protective cap, saw off the excess length, put the cap back on and hang it on the frame.

How to attach it to the ceiling yourself?

Fastening principle cassette model to the ceiling or the upper slope of the window opening is the same as when attached to the wall. Differences will be observed in the way the brackets are installed. When installing the bracket to a wall, horizontal holes are used, and when attaching to the ceiling or upper slope, vertical holes are used.

The technology is as follows:

  • Using a tape measure, determine the center of the window opening and make markings symmetrically (relative to the center). When you are going to attach the brackets, attach the cassette with the blinds and check how they work: whether the canvases interfere with each other and the free movement of the cords, or if they touch the opening.

  • Then connect the marks and check the levelness with a level. Using a drill or hammer drill, drill holes: for a self-tapping screw with a 2.5 mm drill, for a dowel - depending on the plastic part.
  • When planning to fasten the brackets, check again with a level that the cassette is positioned correctly. All that remains is to fix the brackets, fasten the cornice by turning the latch to the left 90 degrees and insert the plugs. If you attached the cornice with the canvas, this means that the job is done. If not, then all that remains is to attach the canvas.

Sash mounting

The cassette unit can be attached directly to the frame using self-tapping screws, violating the integrity of the window frame. But you can attach the blinds without drilling.

If you decide to use self-tapping screws, then their length should not exceed 10 mm, so as not to pierce the window frame through and not to break the tightness of the window block. After marking and attaching the brackets with self-tapping screws, you need to attach the blinds in the manner described earlier (insert the curtain rod, turn the latch to the left).

How to attach vertical aluminum blinds to the sash of a plastic window using drilling, you can find out further.

Install without drilling

If you decide to do without self-tapping screws and violating the integrity of the glass unit, then you can use double-sided tape or brackets - clamps. Moreover, you can attach the cassette with tape both to the frame itself and to the window sash. But brackets can only be used on sashes.

Using double-sided tape

Scotch tape should be used for construction work, not for paper. This type of tape is not sold in office supply stores. You need to look for it in building materials stores and auto stores.

There are two options for installing blinds with tape:

  • glue the tape directly onto the cassette and glue it to the window (sash);
  • Glue the clamp brackets to the tape, and then attach the cassettes to them.

In any case, when using tape as a material for attaching blinds, you must adhere to the following instructions:

  1. This type of work must be carried out in the warm season; the double-glazed window should not be cold or covered with condensation.
  2. It is necessary to wash the frame or glass, dry the mounting area and wipe it with acetone or solvent.
  3. Make markings using a pencil, cassette, level; in this case, the line must be strictly parallel to the window sill so that a skewed gap does not form below. If the window sill itself is located on a slope, then you need to focus on the level and plumb line, otherwise the slats (blind plates) will interfere with each other when closing. Their functionality will be impaired.
  4. Take off protective film from the tape and carefully glue it strictly along the intended line.
  5. Attach the canvas if it was not attached initially.

Using bracket clamps

Bracket clamps are very convenient for window sashes. They produce several versions of such clamps (plastic and metal), but they are all very easy to use. You can use them according to the following simple instructions:

  1. When assembling the cornice, you need to fasten the canvas and assemble it. You can fasten the canvas at the end of the installation work.
  2. Try the clamp on the cornice and check the functionality of the block.
  3. Depending on the specific clip model, open the window sash and snap the clip (top edge window sash). You can first disconnect the curtain rod and clamps, snap them onto the sash - and then attach the curtain rod to the clamp.
  4. Some models of clamps are equipped with stops that need to be secured to the curtain rod.
  5. Install the clips with magnets on the bottom of the window sash.
  6. Fasten the canvas if you have not done so before.
  7. Attach magnets to the bottom strip of the blind block and the clamps on the sash.

How to remove blinds?

Since there are quite a lot of models of blind cassettes, there are also many ways to remove them.

If your blinds are mounted on twist brackets, they can be removed by turning the latch to the right 90 degrees, while holding them. After turning, the cornice weakens; its upper edge needs to be slightly tilted towards the wall. The cassette comes out of the slots, the blinds are removed. Depending on the purpose for which you are removing the blinds, the canvas can be pre-assembled or left unraveled.

If the blinds are made in the form of a full-fledged curtain rod, then you need to very carefully (but with a little force) remove the top decorative strip. Below it is the curtain mechanism. Gather the canvas from bottom to top. Lift the blinds up and to the right, removing them from their grooves.

From the video below you can learn how to independently remove horizontal blinds from removable latches-fasteners.
