How to make a wooden safe with your own hands. DIY gun safe: drawings. Safe creation process

To understand how to make a safe with your own hands, you need to have a general understanding of the designs of safes, what materials they are made of, and much more.

Factory safes are made of high-strength steel. In, for example, fire-resistant concrete is poured between the walls. That is, as you can see, making a safe is a complex process, as with technical point both in terms of doing it yourself.

Nevertheless, simple design You can make a reliable safe yourself. Fortunately, today in the markets you can buy both high-quality steel and a reliable or electromechanical product.

This was discussed earlier, but today the article will be about how to make a fireproof safe with your own hands, and about recommendations for this difficult process.

To make a fireproof safe with your own hands, you will need to use metal sheets of at least two centimeters. A fireproof safe must have double walls. An asbestos sheet, which is located between two metal sheets, is quite suitable as a substitute for refractory concrete.

It is recommended to make the doors of a homemade fireproof safe somewhat larger in thickness than the walls of the safe, at least 5 centimeters. On lathe It is necessary to make a recess in advance to install a mechanical or electromechanical combination lock.

It is better to make a fireproof safe with your own hands built into the wall, that is decorative cladding in this case, the outer wall is not needed. It will be necessary to decorate only the front part of the homemade safe and its doors.

The question is not easy. It’s best to start with careful planning, both the size of the future product and its design features. In this case, you should take into account:

1. What will need to be stored in the safe after its manufacture, since the dimensions of the safe you make yourself depend on this.

So, for example, if a fireproof safe is used to store important documents A-4 format, it is recommended to make a fireproof safe of such a size that the documents do not have to be folded in half during storage.

2. Metal for a homemade safe can be used with a thickness much smaller than 5 mm. It is clear that working with thick metal using ordinary metal is very difficult.

Therefore, for a homemade fireproof safe, you can choose metal 2-3 millimeters thick.

3. It is necessary to connect the walls of the safe only by welding, no bolts, etc. Of course, if you are making a fire-resistant safe, then it is better not to be lazy and make double walls in it, between which sheets of asbestos board will be located.

An asbestos board will help contain the heating of the walls of a homemade fireproof safe for some time.

Every hunter should have a gun safe at home. You can do it yourself. Homemade boxes for storing valuables they are more popular than store-bought ones. This is because it is not always possible to find a model on sale that meets the stated requirements.

Any weapon (civilian, hunting or service) must be stored in an appropriate place under protection. It must be hidden in a secure box that is locked.

Every gun owner should have a safe in their home to store them. This point is prescribed by law.

Available in stock different types weapons do not have to be stored in a purchased safe. It is quite possible to make it yourself. During the work, it is necessary to adhere to the basic requirements for this device for storing valuables.

Requirements for the safe

The safe structure must be firmly attached to the floor or wall

Decree No. 228 lists the basic requirements that a safe must meet. It's about about the following characteristics:

  • the presence of reliable walls made of metal;
  • wall thickness is 3 mm or more;
  • the presence of two locks that restrict access to weapons by unauthorized persons.

If a person is engaged in the manufacture of a safe himself, then he can reduce the permissible wall thickness of the product to 2 mm. If you plan to store ammunition there, then it is better to opt for metal 3 mm thick.

It is allowed to store weapons and ammunition in one place. In this case, the safe must have a wall thickness of at least 3 mm. This is a mandatory requirement that cannot be ignored.

It is highly recommended to secure the metal box to the floor. This will prevent the illegal theft of the safe with its contents. It can also be attached to a wall. For this purpose, you should choose reliable bolts that can withstand the considerable weight of the entire structure.

Standard sizes

The decisive parameter when choosing a safe is the length of the weapon. If the box is too small, the owner of the gun will have to constantly disassemble it in order to place it under lock and key.

Different types of weapons have their own parameters:

  • IZH-27 – 1165 mm;
  • Izhevsk – 1280 mm;
  • Benelli Comfort – 1300 mm;
  • Remington 11-87 – 710 mm.

To determine the length of a weapon, it is enough to measure it at home or use tables indicating this parameter.

Dimensions and drawing

The dimensions for making a gun safe should be determined based on individual wishes and the dimensions of the gun

As mentioned earlier, the size of the safe for storing it depends on the basic parameters of the weapon. Ideally, you need to add a few cm to have extra space in the drawer. It is also worth separating a separate area for convenient storage ammunition.

When calculating the depth of the product, you need to take into account the presence or absence of an optical sight. If it is present, then it is best to stop at the parameter, which is 500 mm. If the weapon does not have such an element, then you can make the depth 350 mm.

During calculation optimal width standard markings are taken. For one gun, this parameter should be 300 mm. Another 200 mm may be required to store accessories that are used when cleaning a shotgun or pistol.

Tools and materials

Gun safe should be at the disposal of every person who is interested in hunting with a gun. To make a hunting box, you may need the following materials and tools:

  • Iron. This is the main material for making a homemade safe. During the work, durable sheets must be used that correspond to the calculated parameters. A safe cannot be made from wood.
  • Corners are 2.5 cm. They can be replaced with a profile characterized by a square cross-section. These items are required if ammunition is stored in a safe.
  • Welding machine. They do the main work.
  • Locks. It is best to prepare three pieces at once. One of them should be left for the ammo shelf.
  • Pen. One of the additions to the product.
  • Grinder with discs that work on metal.
  • Canopies. They need to be used at least 2-3 pieces if you plan to make a heavy door.

The availability of basic tools and materials should be taken care of in advance. Thanks to this, you will be able to avoid unnecessary pauses in work.

Stages of work

Initially, the master must start cutting out all the blanks for a homemade safe. They will be used for the floor, doors and walls of the product. These elements can be cut using a grinder or a guillotine. The main thing is that the tool can work with metal.

Assembly

All metal sheets of the gun safe are held together using electric gas welding

Electric welding allows for the assembly of prepared elements.

The current level must be set to a minimum level to successfully complete the workpiece assembly task. Following this recommendation will prevent damage to the underlying materials.

Assembly is carried out as follows:

  1. The workpiece is placed on a flat table or other surface.
  2. The bottom of the safe should be gradually placed against it.
  3. Next to general design required to be attached side wall, after which comes the upper part.

All welding points must be located in the interior of the product. With the help of such a trick, it will be possible to hide from prying eyes uneven seams and other defects that are present in the work of welders with minimal experience in this matter.

There is no need to try to weld the walls of the product with a solid weld seam. Such an undertaking rarely ends successfully. Such actions can cause thermal deformation of the material. It is best to use the spot tack method, which is performed every 100 mm.

Rigidizing the structure

After finishing welding work it is necessary to carefully strengthen the structure. For this purpose, the front part of the safe should be framed with a metal corner. Initially, you need to weld the corner to the side areas. All work is again done from within. Not a single seam should be visible from the outside.

Making the front door of the safe

A weapon storage product must have a durable door. It is made from metal sheet. Additionally, a durable corner made of the same material is used. Frame of this element should be welded to the door.

The metal corner performs an important function. It leads to the door being blocked if intruders try to remove it.

As soon as the corner is installed, the master will be able to begin installing the purchased locks. You will need to make holes that are intended for two wells at once. Upon completion of this stage, you can begin installing the door.

The door canopies need to be welded to the corners, and then proceed to attach them to one of the walls of the safe. In this type of work, it is customary to use the electric rivet method. That is, welding must pass through ready-made holes intended for self-tapping screws. Thanks to this, it is possible to get rid of unnecessary welds and holes in the material.

Making a cartridge box

The inside of the safe can be painted or sheathed with something

By law, cartridges and other ammunition must be stored in a designated area. This is usually a safe. The craftsman should weld the cartridge box small size. It will be located separately from the gun or other type of weapon.

At the very end, you can start painting the gun safe. His inner part It is allowed to cover it with leatherette and decorate the door with a rubber seal.

Completion of work

The work on the homemade safe has almost come to an end. The last stage is to install locks that will securely close the metal box and protect its contents from unauthorized persons.

The owner of the safe has the right to decide which locks to give preference to. He can choose simple locking devices or more advanced devices with several levels of protection.

The easiest way is to make a small loop on the body of the safe and its door into which the lock must be inserted. This is one of the simplest and budget ways locking a rifle or pistol storage box. Ideally, there should be at least one more lock, which enhances the level of security of the safe.

You can make a gun safe with your own hands in 1-2 days, provided you are actively involved in the work. To avoid gross mistakes, you need to strictly adhere to the sequence of work stages and periodically look at the drawings homemade product.

Friends, today we offer you a very simple and quick way build a convenient gun safe on one's own. The technique is not abstruse, however, the material is not suitable for people who:

  • They believe that it is easier to buy equipment than to spend time on its manufacture;
  • They have extensive experience in the field of metalworking, because this article will not tell them anything new.

And now, you have become the owner of a firearm that needs to be stored somewhere. You can approach this issue on a grand scale and purchase a specialized safe in the store. However, not everyone can (or wants) to spend a considerable amount on such a purchase. A sufficiently spacious box will not be cheap, but we need a large one. After all, buying weapons can become a habit for many. On the other hand, if you have the desire and opportunity (and a couple of free days), then you can build such a box, and it’s several times cheaper. If you are of the same opinion, then this article will be 100% useful for you.

Note that the algorithm for creating the simplest and cheapest safe is described here. After all, not everyone’s budget allows them to buy a professional metal box; for the first experience, it’s enough to master the basics and build something simpler. One of the most prominent representatives of safes is the German armored product. Its dimensions were equal to a medium-sized closet, interior decoration made of velvet, 3 built-in electronic locks. The door is made of transparent, incredibly durable special glass. By turning on the backlight, you can look at your collection all day long. Or buy a car for the same amount.

Before doing the craft, estimate the size of the future structure. The main parameter is height. This is the main value that determines what length of gun you can fit inside without any problems. Not all firearms models can be disassembled and stored conveniently. And just because you don’t intend to purchase long samples now doesn’t mean you won’t want to in the future. Let's look at an example. The longest representative of domestic firearms is the Tiger brand carbine, the barrel length of which is 620 mm and KO-91/30. Having calculated all the parameters, we get 1250 mm (add 50 mm just in case). Thus, the height of the safe will be 1300 mm. This is a completely normal value for this product.

Next, let's look at width and depth. Last characteristic– this is the distance from the back wall to the door. It must accommodate the weapon with all the bells and whistles installed, such as sights and mounts. Here 300–400 mm will be enough. Although for fans of powerful shotguns such as “Vepr” or “Saiga”, where the magazines are closely adjacent, the starting point in choosing the depth should be 500 mm. Width is not as strict a parameter as the previous data. It matches the capacity of your box. For one unit you need approximately 100 mm. This example describes a safe with a width of 500 mm.

As for materials, the law “On Weapons” states that the width of the metal used to store weapons must be at least 3 mm. It is also indicated that any high-strength materials, as well as wood upholstered with metal, can be used in production. Without bothering for a long time, we choose sheet steel. Even a beginner can handle it.

Also in the process we will need:

So, first of all, we cut out the areas for the bottom, door, floor and walls. Grinder or guillotine – the choice is yours. It is better not to take a cutting torch, as the metal deteriorates from high temperatures, the cut is uneven, the edges are damaged. Of course, an angle grinder is easier to find. But with a guillotine, your cut will be more accurate, and it works many times more efficiently. Although, if you buy metal from friends in production, ask them to cut it in accordance with necessary parameters. The box is assembled by electric welding at a minimum current. Be careful! Sheet metal, no matter how thick it is, burns out very quickly even with the slightest increase in current or with prolonged overheating at one point. According to the rules, the current strength is set relative to the thickness of the electrode (an individual issue). When purchasing electrodes, carefully study the instructions on the box; there is probably a table with the values. Try another option. We take an electrode with a thickness of 2–3 mm (the smaller the better) and set the current to a low level. Then slowly add. As soon as the arc begins to die out and the electrode begins to stick to the surface, you have found your parameters. It's best to do a little practice before you start making it.

The assembly process always starts from the back wall. Place it on a flat floor and weld the bottom one by one, and then all the other walls. Do not forget that all traces of welding must be inside the box. This will make your product look more professional, even if you have never done this before. Well, all the seams can be hidden behind nice upholstery. And there is no need to reinvent the wheel or try to “make it easier”, for example, by making one continuous seam. Damage to the metal is inevitable in this case. Yes, and unnecessary movements. You are not going to store anything liquid, which means you are not afraid of leakage. This means, use a simple and easy welding method: tack points every 70 - 100 mm.

Here is a strong and stable structure that needs rigidity. Let's make a blank for the door on the front panel, framing it with a corner. First, it needs to be welded to the door (red arrows in the third picture), and then welded together inside the box (yellow arrow).

The first stage is completed. The door is strengthened due to the already installed frame corner. It itself is welded to the door (black arrows in the figure above) and to each other (green arrows). And as you might have already guessed, the corner is here not only for the sake of rigidity. It is also a security mechanism against breaking and entering. Removing the door (when closed) is not easy. At the end we make holes for two locks (according to the law on the storage of weapons).

Now let's install the door. We weld the canopies to the corner (red arrows) according to the principle of electric rivets (the welding must pass through the holes for the screws). Then weld the finished door itself to the canopies (blue arrows).

There is no need to improvise and separately weld part of the canopy to the safe, and the second to the door. This will not end well - they will not come together. This completes the most difficult and, in principle, basic steps. You can make additional accessories, like a box for cartridges. Yes, yes, it requires a separate box with a lock (in accordance with the law on the storage of ammunition). If you buy a safe, then most likely this compartment will be one piece with it (in diagram “A”).

This approach is not the best, because this arrangement of the cartridge box takes away space from the weapon that you place in the safe. The height changes from 1300 mm to 1450–1500 mm (at least). However, you can cheat and make a calving chamber for cartridges, which will occupy only part of the upper area of the main structure (in diagram “B”).

To simplify the task even further, weld the box separately, and then simply attach it to back wall. Use the same method of electric rivets through the connectors made in the rear panel.

The final touch is painting the product. If there are cracks in the structure, be sure to fill them with putty! Finish everything inside with leatherette, stick any seal along the entire length of the door (rubber or plastic - it doesn’t matter). Don’t forget to screw the entire structure to the floor, otherwise the inspectors will definitely find something to complain about. For wooden covering Ordinary screws are suitable, for concrete - anchor screws (but using metal washers). The structure should not be located directly on the floor, otherwise opening it will be problematic.

To summarize, I would like to note that on the door you can easily place various accessories: cleaning rods, headphones or small shelves for wiping. It is advisable that one key fits all locks. Otherwise in extreme situation you will waste time selecting the key.

If you show a little creativity, you can turn your safe into a real work of art that will take its rightful place in the interior of the room. For harmony, you can choose a Kyiv floor board. For example, safes can be lined with expensive wood. Below are some examples for inspiration.

Many people buy guns for different purposes. Some for self-defense, and some for hunting. But in addition to a weapons permit and other papers, it is necessary to have safes for storing hunting weapons at home. At this stage, many are puzzled by the problem of purchasing a product. Or by making something like a gun safe with your own hands. Below we will look at how to do this at home.

DIY gun safe

A large number of people will not even bother with the problem of manufacturing, but will simply purchase a safe for any amount they need, no matter how much it costs. Prices vary depending on the size and materials from which it is made.

But since there is a crisis in the country, and not everyone can afford such luxury, there is an option to make a gun safe with your own hands. After all, many hunters are not exactly rich people, and a safe should be purchased exclusively large sizes, therefore the price for it will be equal to the cost of a fairly good domestically assembled gun. Buy a wardrobe small size inappropriate. Over the years, the arsenal of weapons only increases, and you will certainly have to buy a new cabinet.

Easy to manufacture

You can make a gun safe with your own hands in just a couple of days, dedicating a couple of hours of free time to it. You will not only save a significant amount of money, but also produce what is needed according to the design for your individual purposes. Also, a homemade gun safe will be a great source of pride.

Safe creation process

The first step is to accurately determine the dimensions. Everything should be thought through and calculated in advance. The main dimension will be height. It will determine what weapons you can place now and in the future, expanding your arsenal. Some can be disassembled for compact storage, but there are also non-dismountable models, and some technological innovations are possible in the future.

So it’s best to make a tall gun safe with your own hands in advance.
For example maximum height Let's take a sample of the domestic Tiger carbine. This model is the longest available. We get a height of 1250 millimeters, add another 50 to it for convenience, and we get a safe with a height of 1300 millimeters.

Additional dimensions

Next, we need to determine what the width and depth of our safe for storing a hunting rifle will be. The depth of the safe is the distance from the end wall to the safe door itself. It should provide convenient and comfortable storage of weapons with various modifications, as well as optical ones and those with high brackets. The approximate depth for this should be at least 300 millimeters. In the case of storing shotguns to which a magazine is attached, it is necessary to increase the depth to 500 millimeters.

The width of the safe will directly depend on the number of weapons you plan to store now and purchase in the future. For example, one unit of military firearms takes up about 100 millimeters.

Materials for production

After determining the dimensions, you should also decide on the material, which is also important when making a gun safe with your own hands. First, let's look at the legislation. The law on weapons clearly states that the thickness metal cladding safe for storing firearms should not be less than 3 millimeters. Additional shelves and drawers inside the safe can be made of various materials, which will be highly durable and reliable. But this is a waste of time, effort and money. The easiest way, which will not compromise the quality in any way, is to make a safe with your own hands from ordinary sheet steel. This does not require special skills, which makes it possible to make it even for a person who has no experience.

Other elements for creating a safe

Metal corner with a shelf to create stiffening ribs.

Three castles.

2 liters of light paint.

5-6 metal canopies.

Progress

First of all, we start cutting out the blanks that will be used for the walls, bottom, floor and doors. You can cut it in two ways: using a grinder or a guillotine, which is designed for cutting metal. Use the option that is more accessible or convenient for you. Don't try to cut metal blanks using Due to thermal overloads, the metal warps and becomes uneven. The cut with a grinder is accessible anywhere, there will be no problems with this. The guillotine can significantly shorten the cutting process, and the workpieces are more even and pleasing in appearance.

If you purchase sheet metal at any private metalworking enterprise, then ask immediately for an additional payment to cut it into the sizes you need.

Assembly

It is carried out using electric welding. The main condition for successful welding and the reliability of the structure in the future is setting the minimum current before welding. burns through very quickly, you just need to increase the current strength or, conversely, keep it in one place.

When welding, it is determined by selecting electrodes of the required thickness. Acquainted with required sizes, as well as additional parameters can be found on the pack with the electrodes themselves. There is always a matching table there to help you.

But you can use another method. Use the thinnest electrode you have available. Ideally, you should use 2 mm. Then gradually add a level of current until the arc stops going out and the electrode stops sticking to the walls of the surface. It is best to experiment in advance on unnecessary pieces of metal so as not to damage the safe in the process.

Assembly should begin from the back wall:

Place it on a flat surface.
. We slowly begin to attach the bottom of the safe to it.
. Then the side wall.
. Then we attach the top one.
. And we attach the second side wall.

It is very important that the welding points are located inside the safe. If you are just a beginner welder and do not have great experience in even welding, then internal elements will help hide all the imperfections and uneven seams. The walls of the safe should not be welded continuously.

Quite often this leads to thermal deformation of the thin metal. A continuous seam should also not be used in this case due to the fact that the safe does not need to be tightly sealed, like, for example, a container with water. It is best to use this method for welding: during the process, make spot tacks of metal at a distance of about 100 millimeters from each other.

Adding rigidity to the structure

After welding the entire main structure, it should be strengthened. To do this, we frame the front part of the safe, where the door will be located in the future, with a metal corner. First you need to weld a metal corner to the side walls of the safe. All this should only be done inside the safe. There should be no external welding elements. After this, you can begin making the door for the safe.

Making the front door of the safe

We take a door that has already been pre-cut from a sheet of metal and reinforce the door structure using metal corner. First of all, the corner frame should be welded to the door itself. But in addition to the strengthening function, the corner also plays an important role in terms of security, namely: it blocks the door if intruders want to remove it from the awnings in the closed position.

After installing the corner frame, we proceed to installing the locks. To do this, we make holes for two

Now that the door is completely ready, you can begin its actual installation. Door overhangs should be welded first to the corners on the door, and then to the wall of the safe itself. It is best to use the electric rivet method. Its essence is as follows. Welding passes through the holes in the canopy for self-tapping screws, thereby avoiding the creation of extra holes and unnecessary welds. After this, we weld the finished door to the canopies themselves.

Making a cartridge box

We figured out how to make a gun safe, now we need to make a box for storing ammunition, as required by law. To do this, we simply cook a small cartridge box, which will be located separately from the weapon, and simply weld it.

Finally, we paint the gun safe. If desired, you can line the inside with leatherette and stick a rubber seal on the door. You should also draw drawings of a gun safe, thanks to which you can make a part of any design and dimensions.

To avoid accidents, weapons should be stored in a place where children and other family members have limited access. A special fireproof cabinet copes best with this task. In our article, we decided to tell you how to make a safe for a hunting rifle with your own hands.

Requirements for hunting safes

The presence of a safe adapted for storing weapons is prerequisite when obtaining a license to purchase a hunting rifle. However, the cost of such fireproof cabinets is prohibitive - simplest model only 1 m high costs from $50. There is only one way out - to make a safe yourself.

However, before purchasing necessary materials, it is worth finding out what requirements apply to hunting safes. According to Order No. 228 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, fireproof gun cabinets must:

  • be made of metal. If it is made of wood, then it will have to be sheathed with metal;
  • have walls at least 3 mm thick. Moreover, the walls of the compartment where the gun will be stored can be thinner - from 2 mm, but in the box where the cartridges are stored, this parameter should correspond to 3 mm;
  • be equipped with two locks;
  • be placed in a place where access to children and other family members is limited;

The order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to which we refer, does not oblige the safe to be attached to the floor or wall. However, some police departments insist on this when issuing licenses, justifying their position on security grounds. Therefore, clarify this issue before inviting a local inspector authorized to confirm that you have an appropriately equipped place for storing weapons.

For instructions on attaching the safe to the floor or wall, watch the video:

Manufacturing Features

To do DIY safe, you will need: sheet iron(we wrote about the thickness above), 2.5 cm corners or profile square section, welding machine, three locks (one smaller one for the box, two for the main door), 2-3 door canopy, grinder with metal disc, handle.

Before starting work, you should draw up drawings indicating all dimensions:

  • height. Usually it is calculated based on the length of the weapon, to which 10 cm is added. But if you plan to store cartridges in the same safe, add another 28-30 cm. It is possible that in the future you will change the weapon, so you can measure the height with a margin - 175 cm is enough for any model of gun;
  • depths. This parameter depends on the presence of an optical sight. When it is present, measure 50 cm, and a weapon without “optics” will fit perfectly into a cabinet 35 cm deep;
  • width. A safe with shelves where you can put cleaning equipment will take up 50 cm horizontally, without shelves - 30 cm.
In separate safes, metal cabinets, pyramids and boxes provide separate storage of cartridges and weapons. In this case, cartridges containing pyrotechnic compositions or filled with tear and irritant substances, as well as cartridges that have misfired, are stored in separate packaging. Order No. 228 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, paragraph 165

DIY gun safe - instructions

Cut the sheet of metal into pieces that will later become the walls, door and bottom. Cut the corner (pipe). Weld the frame.

Weld the rear and side posts, as well as the bottom of the cartridge box, with metal. All welds should ultimately remain inside the safe.

Place a lock on the box door and place it in place.

Reinforce the main door leaf with a stiffening frame. This will increase its strength and also eliminate the possibility of removing the door from its hinges by lifting it. Install locks on it, weld the awnings and hang it.

We advise you to decorate the inside of the safe with some soft material(felt, foam rubber or any soft fabric). This way you will eliminate the possibility that the gun will be scratched on the walls of the locker. The outside of the safe should be painted to give it a marketable appearance, and then installed in a pre-designated place.
