Installation process

The junction of two vertical recesses should not have sharp corners, as this can cause damage to the conductor as a result of the mobility of the structure and cyclical heating or cooling concrete screed.

Step two - installing a socket box and connecting the power supply

Installation of the socket box (box) is carried out on the starting or finishing putty. After the latter has set, a 220 V wire is inserted into the upper hole. At this stage, you should not rush to finish the network supply, since the length of the wire may not be enough to install the connecting terminal block.

Step three - laying the corrugation with a temperature sensor

First of all, you need to stretch the sensor with the wire along the entire length of the corrugation. Exactly at in this case you will need the previously mentioned internal broach. The sensor itself should protrude a few centimeters beyond the flexible tube. The upper part of the conductor in the corrugation is inserted into the socket in which the regulator will be located.

It is worth immediately noting that if several underfloor heating systems with similar sensors are installed, one regulator can be used. It is enough to perform a through groove on the wall and bring the cable from another room to the place where the regulator is installed. This must be done before installing the socket box.

Step four - sealing

All connections of the corrugated pipe, starting from the box on the wall and ending with the sensor outlet into the free outlet, must be sealed. The parts of the corrugation are connected with electrical tape, and the sensor itself is closed with a plug. The connection of the latter is also duplicated with electrical tape.

Careful sealing is essential for protection internal space from contact with concrete solution or putty, which will allow replacing the sensor if, of course, such a need arises during operation.

Thus, it becomes quite clear that the corrugated soft pipe serves as a passage element for quickly replacing the heated floor sensor without removing tiles or other floor covering.

Step five - selecting a plug for the sensor

As a rule, the heated floor kit already includes everything you need, including a plug. If it is plastic or rubber, it should be replaced with copper, which has higher thermal conductivity.

If such a plug is difficult to find, you can make it yourself. To do this, you need to take a piece of copper tube for 15 and, accordingly, a plug according to its size. There is no need to use any sealants or seals. This can affect the actual performance during the heating and cooling of the screed.

It is very rare to find ceramic plugs in specialized stores. It makes no sense to talk about the price, since the size of the product is small. Ceramics conduct heat very well, but have a significant drawback - it cannot be separated from the main mass of the concrete screed.

Step six - attaching the sensor

The heated floor sensor, already packed in a corrugation and plug, must be secured. To do this, the edge placed on the floor, immediately in front of the plug, is secured to the floor with construction metal tape, or rather, with a small piece of it. The power wire of the heating cable or thin mat laid nearby is secured to the corrugated pipe with plastic ties.

The tightening force should be minimal, which will eliminate the possibility of changing the shape of the tube. This is very important for further manipulations.

Step seven - putty the groove with the sensor

The heated floor sensor, like any other electronic item, can fail. Thanks to the soft corrugated pipe and the internal broach, which was emphasized at the beginning of the article, you can easily replace a faulty temperature control element.

  • remove the thermostat from the socket box, having previously de-energized the room;
  • disconnect the sensor itself from the terminal block and the regulator;
  • pull out the mentioned one through the corrugation;
  • using a broach, thread the original sensor back until it stops

After this, you need to install the regulator in place and check the correctness of the repair work. Thanks to the broach, the sensor head will reach the copper plug (its remote location) and will not get tangled at the bend between the floor and the wall.

Which corrugation is best to use?

Color, brand and composition do not matter. Only the inner diameter matters. Branded sensors, which come complete with ready-made heated floors, fit closely into the 10 mm corrugation. The latter is also included as standard equipment.

If, for any reason, the sensor is replaced with a compatible, but non-original model, it is worth using a 17 mm corrugation during the installation process. To install it, you only need to make a deeper groove.

Do I need to raise the sensor head as high as possible to the top layer of the screed?

With mechanical regulators the situation is simpler. No programs or settings, only mechanical control buttons that set desired temperature according to data from the sensor. Placing the latter in the first line or cold zone will indicate insufficient heating. The transition from a comfortable mode to increased heating will provoke not only wear and tear on the mats and cables, but also melting of the contacts in the junction box where the household network connects to the consumer itself.

What to do if the sensor is installed incorrectly?

In the process of rough work, it is very easy to correct the situation. It is enough to cut the groove a little further and, using an additional piece of corrugation with a diameter of 10 mm, move the sensor a little further.

Lack of sensor cable length can be corrected by moving the wall regulator lower in level or by adding a wire of the same cross-section and then insulating it.

If the work is completed and carried out fine finishing- the tiles are laid, it is necessary:

  • remove the piece of tile under which the heated floor sensor is located;
  • clear the end of the recess in which the corrugation is laid;
  • remove the plug (plug) of the sensor;
  • cut off the sensor from the wire;
  • add the required wire length;
  • seal the extended part in a new 10 mm corrugation;
  • place in the added groove;
  • apply tile adhesive and lay the tiles.

Step 3. The end of the tube, where the sensor itself is located, is closed with a special plastic plug. This is necessary to ensure that nothing gets there, including mortar, with which the system will be flooded.

Step 4. The end of the tube with the sensor is fixed between two heating circuits right in the middle. It is secured with a plastic clamp or special tape. In this case, the installation location of the sensor is selected so that it is relatively close to the thermostat itself; it is desirable that there is relatively easy access to the sensor. Optimal distance from the device to the wall – 50-60 cm.

Attention! The temperature sensor should not be located close to heating devices or fireplaces, stoves. Otherwise, errors in the readings will be noted.

Step 5. The tube from the location of the regulator is led to the floor in a special groove. Its bend at the floor should not be sharp - at least 5 cm.

Step 6. The groove in the wall, after laying all the wires and the corrugated tube in it, is sealed with cement mortar.

Step 7 The wires must be tinned.

Step 8 After this, the wires are connected to the thermostat. The regulator is installed in its place - a hole in the wall above the groove for the wires.

Step 9 All electrical connections are checked and then the floor heating system is turned on for one minute. This will allow you to check its functionality.

Replacing the temperature sensor

If the heated floor temperature sensor fails, it will have to be replaced. Otherwise, the thermostat will not be able to control the heating system.
