What is the section of a profile pipe. Assortment of profile pipes - GOST, parameters and application. GOST requirements for the range of profile pipes

All products are characterized by certain parameters. This also applies to water pipes. In addition, this type of product, such as profile pipes, also has its own differences, its own classification, its own specifications, that is, dimensions, cross-sectional area, withstand load, material of manufacture, and so on.

Naturally, profile pipes during their production are regulated by GOSTs, so any deviation from their requirements is considered a defect.

Some classification

A profile pipe is any other type of pipe other than a standard round one. The big advantage of such varieties is that the cross-sectional area, having equal dimensions with round products, will be larger.
Such pipes have excellent technical characteristics, especially when it comes to their strength.
They are used in many areas of life: heavy and light industry, agricultural engineering, furniture production and many other industries.
The classification of these materials can be based on many characteristics, such as, for example, sizes, shapes, production methods, and so on. Let's look at this issue a little closer.
The following types are distinguished by form:

  • Square;
  • Oval;
  • Flat-oval, that is, those in which two sides are straight, and the other two are made in the form of arcs, that is, rounded;
  • Rectangular.

The general GOST for the manufacture of profile products is designated 13663-86. Depending on the shape, they are manufactured according to the following standards:
  • For square ones, GOST 8639-82 is applicable;
  • For rectangular ones, we apply GOST 8645-68;
  • For a flat-oval shape, we apply GOST 8644-68;
  • For oval, we apply GOST 8642-68.

Note! All such products are made from steel various types. It must also be said that each type of steel also has its own GOST.

If we talk about the production method, the profile pipe will have two types:

  • Electric welded;
  • Seamless.

Electric welding can have several types:

  • Thin-walled;
  • Thick-walled;
  • Having a galvanized surface and not galvanized;
  • Straight-seam and many others.

Seamless has the following types:
  • Seamless;
  • Hot rolled;
  • Galvanized and non-galvanized.

Cold rolled and hot rolled steel

A small caveat should be made here too. We will talk about the types of steel that are used to make these products a little lower, but it’s worth understanding the difference between cold-rolled and hot-rolled products.
On initial stage produce sheets by hot rolling. The large original sheet is cut into smaller pieces or into strips. Cold-rolled steel is first processed, that is, the pickling process occurs first. Only after this the cold rolling process starts. For this reason in absolute majority cold-rolled steel, or rather a sheet of it, cannot be thicker than 4-5 mm. The area, like other parameters, can take on a wide variety of values, but the thickness has an upper limit. However, the surface of such steel products is much better.
Such sheets have a constant thickness, no matter what their area. In addition, there is no scale on them. It must also be said that the technical characteristics are much higher, since before cold rolling everything steel materials undergo a hardening procedure. Accordingly, the load on products made from such material may be higher.

Seamless and electric welded

If you have figured out hot and cold rolled products, now all that remains is to figure out what seamless products are and what electric welded products are.

Electric welded products are obtained by molding and subsequent electric welding. They have seams that can be straight or spiral, hence the name - straight-seam and spiral-seam. These products can be made either from a sheet of low-alloy carbon steel or from a blank - strips.
The metal blank (sheet) is welded with its edges along one line. This is how straight-seam products are obtained. The spiral variety is obtained by winding a steel strip in a spiral.
Profile pipes of this type can be used to create gas mains. In this case, the maximum load is 16 MPa.
All such types have their own GOST manufacturing.
All products can be thick-walled or thin-walled. In this matter, the production process has no influence.
Seamless products are obtained by rolling a steel ingot. During this process, a hole is formed in the center, which is later calibrated in its shape and size.
It must be said that seamless products can be produced in several ways at once, for example, forging or rolling.
As in the first case, a seamless pipe can be thin-walled or thick-walled. The most important advantage that all seamless products have is their incredible strength, which is achieved due to the absence of a seam - the weakest point. Basically, seamless products are used where it is necessary to constantly deal with high loads, both internal and external. Seamless pipe has gained great popularity in the oil industry, as well as in the field of transporting highly aggressive media.

Some technical characteristics

The main ones include:

  • Profile form. There are rectangular, square and so on;
  • Dimensions, that is, height and width. Here it must be said that there is a GOST for this indicator, but manufacturers today produce profile pipes with any width and length;
  • Wall thickness. According to this parameter, it is divided into two types - thin-walled and thick-walled. This important parameter, since it is he who determines the scope of application. The wall thickness is regulated according to GOST, but there are exceptions;
  • Weight. This is not just ease of transportation and work. Weight determines product quality. Knowing the dimensions and weight, you can easily find out how thick its walls are, if this cannot be done by direct measurement.

What does the industry offer?

Today, the range offered by manufacturers is very wide. For example, let's look at products in accordance with GOSTs 30245-94, 8645-68, 8639-82, that is, electric-welded pipes with different cross-sectional shapes.
Assortment of square products (this includes seamless and electric welded products):

  • External parameters are from 10 by 10 to 120 by 120. At the same time, both thick-walled and thin-walled are produced, wall thickness from 1 to 8 mm - this is for cold-deformed materials;
  • External parameters from 60 by 60 to 180 by 180. Wall thickness from 4 to 14 - this is for hot-rolled products;
  • External parameters range from 10 by 10 to 100 by 100. Both thick-walled and thin-walled are produced, wall thickness from 1 to 5 - this is for electric-welded materials.

All values here are in mm.
A rectangular pipe (this includes seamless and electric-welded pipes) has the following assortment:
  • Sizes from 10 by 15 mm with a thickness of 1 to 180 by 150 with a thickness of 12 mm;
  • Groups A and B. The first includes products made from steel grades St2 (4 kp/ps), and the second – St.2 (4 kp/ps), as well as 08 kp and 10-35.

Range of steel products (both thin-walled and thick-walled, GOST 30245-2003):

  • For square shape– from 4 by 4 cm with a thickness of 2 mm to 30 by 30 with a thickness of 14 mm;
  • The rectangular one has the following dimensions - from 5 by 2.5 cm to 40 by 20 cm, and the wall thickness is from 2 to 14 mm, respectively.

As you can see, there is plenty to choose from. And this is only part of the entire range of sizes, shapes and materials.

Wall thickness and other dimensions

In this article we have mentioned many times the concept of thin-walled or thick-walled. The whole point is this: for different sizes, the same thickness can be either small or large. Hence the names.
Naturally, thick-walled products will cost more, since more material is spent on their production.
The wall thickness can range from 1 to 14 mm.
It must be said that depending on the type, the dimensions also change:

  • Cold rolled – wall thickness from 1 to 8, dimensions from 1 to 12 cm;
  • Hot rolled products – wall thickness from 4 to 14 mm, dimensions from 6 to 18 cm;
  • Electric welding – wall thickness from 1 to 5 mm, dimensions from 1 to 10 cm.

Most existing standard sizes are shown in the table below:

The length of the material also has some dependence on the production method. This figure ranges from one and a half meters to 12.5.
There is also a classification based on length:
  • Measured length;
  • Unmeasured length;
  • Multiple measured.

For materials with measured or multiple measured lengths, it is customary to add a margin of 5 mm. For this reason, the finished product at the exit may be 10 cm longer than expected.

The concept of assortment

What is this “assortment”? The meaning of the word means a list of a specific product presented on the market or a list of products produced by a manufacturer.

If we take profile pipes, the range of these products includes all types of products that are produced at enterprises or located in suppliers’ warehouses.

It is convenient to present the range of profile pipes in the form of tables. They contain, among which square and rectangular parts of a wide range of products are most often used.

Profile is one of the main parameters of the parts presented in the table. In addition, it may indicate the steel grade, profile size, wall thickness of the products, yield strength, manufacturing method, and other characteristics, after reviewing which we have a complete understanding of the product.

GOST 13663 86

In this State Standard profile pipes made of steel of both seamless and welded types for general purpose are presented. Various groups of carbon and alloy steel grades are used for manufacturing.
The linear parameters of profile steel risers are recorded in special tables that can be easily found on the Internet.

Elements can be:

  • with the presence of hollow ribs;
  • flat oval shapes;
  • oval and teardrop-shaped sections;
  • square();
  • rectangular ().

The assortment provides for the presence of 2 groups of profile pipes in accordance with GOST:

  • products of group A: the mechanical properties of steel are standardized;
  • products of group B: availability is standardized chemical elements in a specific proportion, the mechanical characteristics of the base metal.

The index of the product group when marking it - A or B, is placed before the steel grades.

The assortment provides for the presence of steel profile pipes with and without heat treatment.

Non-experts in this industry sometimes talk about the range of steel profile pipes GOST 13633 86. It turns out that such a Standard does not exist at all, and the numbers are probably simply mixed up and instead of 13663 they call 13633. That's all. So you need to be extremely careful and precise before talking about State Standards.

Let's focus on rectangular and square elements, which are more in demand in comparison with analogues of other sections.

Rectangular pipes GOST 8645 68

As stipulated in the Standard and accordingly, pipes can be produced:

  • seamless method (hot and cold deformation);
  • welding method (electric welding with hot and cold calibration, furnace welding).

As GOST 8645 68 in practical activities they use square analogues of GOST 8639 82, the range of which is also quite large.

The shape of the rectangular elements should be the same as in the drawing.

Table 1 shows some parameters of rectangular products general purpose.

Features of application

Risers are manufactured in close correlation between linear parameters and wall thickness. Thanks to the stiffening ribs, the design of rectangular parts is characterized by strength, reliability, long service life and other positive properties.

Rectangular risers are used in:

  • construction industry. With their help, they are created bearing structures for sports, cultural and mass facilities, offices, and other premises. Rectangular parts make ideal railings and various decorative fences;
  • mechanical engineering. Modern tractors, agricultural machinery, heavy vehicles, trailers are mounted on frames made of hollow rectangular risers. Low weight combined with high strength is the main condition for creating reliable metal structures;
  • agriculture. Constructed greenhouses, greenhouses, seed sheds, equipment, and other structures can easily withstand serious both transverse and longitudinal loads;
  • furniture industry. There are such risers in every school desk, in every chair. They supply furniture for medical and public institutions. When combined with wooden elements, they look very aesthetically pleasing.

It is impossible to do without them when constructing the frames of trade pavilions, canopies, temporary and permanent advertising structures.

With their help, devices are installed that facilitate the performance of work indoors and outdoors.

Effective interaction with planes helps expand the range of applications of products. Thanks to the rectangularity of the structural parts, the range of functional purposes of the final product is significantly expanded.

Despite the savings in metal during production, rectangular risers are a fairly high-quality, sought-after product. Rectangular parts are available to consumers, which is associated with the competitive cost of the product and high quality.

GOST 8639 82

This Standard refers to the range of square profile pipe, for the production of which they use:

  • seamless method (hot- and cold-formed elements);
  • electric welding (cold-deformed, hot-calibrated parts).

The document applies to the range of profile pipes GOST 8639 82 square section, for the production of which furnace welding was also used.

Depending on the manufacturing method, purpose, steel grades, parts can be of different lengths with different wall thicknesses, different sections and external dimensions (Table 2):

Assortment of square profile pipe GOST 30245 2003

This Standard specifies not only the parameters of square products, but also the technology for their production.

One of the main areas of application for such parts is capital construction.

For absolute confidence in the strength and reliability of structures, for their construction it is necessary to use only a range of steel profile pipes that comply with GOST.

The production of a wide range of profile square risers as a variety of rectangular products is carried out accordingly. Elements can be dimensional or non-dimensional. If necessary, you can purchase parts that are multiples of the measurements.

Slicing individual elements finished products, enterprises adhere to the State Standard.

The document emphasizes that:

  • the minimum length of parts cannot be less than 4 m, and the maximum - no more than 13 m;
  • more often than others, buyers are interested in finished products with a length of 6 m and 12 m (it is precisely the elements with such linear parameters that can be found most often in construction stores);
  • when cutting dimensional parts, it is necessary to adhere to maximum deviations of the order of up to 60 mm;
  • the required length is determined by the customer, but it must be within the limits specified in the regulatory documents.

For products with a square cross-section, the Standard requires compliance with the length of the sides, the linear dimensions of which can range from 50 mm to 300 mm. The assortment of goods provides for the correspondence of the thickness of the element to its size. With an increase in the last parameter, the wall thickness should also increase (minimum value - 2 mm, maximum - 14 mm).

Some designs provide for the use of risers of non-standard sizes with the following parameters: cross-sectional area, wall thickness, length. Such elements must be tested. Produced parts must comply Technical specifications state regulatory body that assesses their level of safety. The parts are marked with the TU designation.

The shape of the parts is indicated in the drawing.

About performance characteristics and areas of application

The design of a square riser is a closed profile, for the formation of which a metal strip is used. Depends on the design features and material of manufacture. quality characteristics that appear during product operation.

These products are different:

  • increased resistance to bending and torsion;
  • strength;
  • reliability;
  • small weight;
  • long service life.

Today it's hard to imagine human activity without square risers. They have found wide application in various fields.

Profiles are the basis of modern industrial and domestic construction. When reconstructing old construction sites and constructing new ones, square-section parts are used to create roofing frames and floors.

It is impossible to imagine functioning without them:

  • furniture industry (shelves, racks, chairs, tables, cabinets);
  • mechanisms of the engineering industry;
  • agriculture (sheds, garages, utility rooms, livestock farms);
  • advertising business, other areas of human life.

In comparison with analogues of round section, square and rectangular profiles after high loads bend. Moreover, after the load ceases, the riser takes its original position. This is their strength and reliability.

Round products, under a similar impact, can not only be deformed, but also completely collapse.

Production stages

The range of square steel profile pipes GOST 30245 2003 provides for the use of sheet steel grades from carbon and low-alloy groups with sheet thicknesses of 3 mm, 4 mm and higher. Individual orders are produced using high-quality rolled steel grades.

After determining the manufacturing method and product sections, production begins, which involves several stages:

  1. Unwinding and cutting rolled sheets into strips of a certain width.
  2. Forming a long strip from cut strips by welding.
  3. Feeding the tape, forming it into products with a square cross-section on a molding machine.
  4. Welding the connecting longitudinal seam formed as a result of bending the workpiece.
  5. Removal to a minimum (remaining no more than 0.5 mm - 1 mm) of flash from the weld.
  6. Carrying out control measures regarding the quality of welds. If deficiencies are found, they are removed.
  7. Cutting high-quality pieces of products of the required length.
  8. Packaging of finished elements.

Finished packaged products are sent to a warehouse for storage.

Gutters. You should know it!

The drainage system is one of the most important systems external structure Houses. This design is not just a decoration for the home, or a tribute to fashion. Gutters are designed to collect and direct the flow of rainwater from the roof of a building to a specially designated place away from the foundation of the building.

How to calculate drainage

Working correctly drainage system protects the roof, roofing, walls of the house, building base and foundation from premature wear. Not to mention the aesthetic component of the benefits of gutters.

They save you from dirt near the house, puddles near the basement and accidental falls. Let's consider the most simple questions on what the drainage system of a residential building should be like. What size should the downpipes be? The size of the pipes depends on what part of the country you live in, the average annual rainfall and the area of the part of the roof for which the drainage is calculated.

In a temperate climate, the calculation takes into account that a 1.5 cm² cross-section of the drain is sufficient to drain water from 1 m² of roofing. Based on this, a pipe with a diameter of 10 cm is capable of draining water from a roof area of about 53 meters.

What is the best material to use for gutters and downspouts?

The most common materials are aluminum and vinyl. But you can use steel and copper gutters. In this case, the determining factor may be the price of the product.

Installing copper gutters will be expensive, but with proper maintenance, these gutters will last for decades. If you live in an area with little temperature variation, vinyl gutters are a smart choice.

Seamless gutters or not? Seamless gutters and gutters, according to experts, are the best option. These gutters are made to specific dimensions. This type of gutters will cost more for the owner of the house. Precast gutters leak and sag over time. With any choice, it is advisable that the installation of gutters be carried out by a specialist in this field of construction.

Laying utilities

Construction of any facility, be it residential apartment house or a production workshop, cannot do without arranging communications that supply heat, water and gas to the building.

Considering the complexity and volume of this type of work, it would be advisable and profitable to contact specialists offering services in the field of installation and connection engineering communications all kinds.

The use of carefully selected materials and modern equipment allows us to complete the work in the shortest possible time, guarantee its quality and offer customers the optimal price level for the services offered.

Trench or trenchless method

Depending on the purpose of the object and the characteristics of the soil, work on arranging communications can be carried out using a trench or trenchless method.

The first is considered traditional - it requires time and the use of excavator equipment, as well as the need to prepare a place for the temporary placement of soil extracted from the ground, the place of which will be taken by pipes and their finishing.

In turn, the trenchless method is a modern one, developed in connection with the need to arrange communications in difficult-to-pass places underground, when the task is to preserve transport routes and buildings on its surface. The main methods of trenchless installation of communications are horizontal or inclined drilling, soil punching, puncture, carried out using special equipment and techniques that guarantee the integrity of the soil layer and the safety of objects.

Each type of communications requires special measures to be taken during the development of pits and digging trenches.

Thus, water supply networks are distinguished by their ramifications and the need to arrange frequent connections to nearby objects. Their arrangement requires, first of all, compliance with the conditions to preserve the conductive properties and protect against negative external influence, as well as economical operation and the possibility of maintenance and periodic monitoring.

In order to carry out all types of work economically and quickly, construction and housing and communal services organizations rent construction equipment and technology.

In its turn, heating network differ in the significant size of the pipe diameter.

Their design requires care and attention, as well as the selection of materials, on the one hand, resistant to prolonged thermal effects, on the other hand, capable of withstanding a decrease in temperature in the ground in winter period, and thirdly, to ensure the preservation of the coolant temperature.

Therefore, the design of work on the arrangement of heating networks is entrusted to experienced specialists who guarantee compliance with all necessary conditions.

Nowadays, steel profile pipes have become widespread. supporting parts, make frames for public transport stops, railings, benches and much more. The most popular area of application for corrugated steel pipes is reflected in the construction industry when installing metal structures and constructing buildings.

A wide range of options for choosing the types of corrugated steel pipes makes it possible to produce a suitable design for the required tasks.

The steel pipe has a cross-section with 4 stiffeners. Despite the fact that such a product does not weigh much, it can withstand very heavy loads.

Their application

Application of profile steel pipes differs in breadth of scale. Undoubtedly, the most basic area of use of profile pipe materials is construction. In modern building structures This type of pipe assortment is used everywhere.

Their use has the following advantages:

  1. Metal is saved by almost a quarter when compared with the construction of a metal building using an I-beam.
  2. Simple installation and little time spent on building the frame and structure.
  3. This metal structure is more resistant to corrosion when compared with other pipe rolling options. And cold-formed corrugated pipes successfully replace I-beams, angles and channels.

Specifications

Let's consider the main technical characteristics of a profile steel pipe:

  • Profile view. Its main types are: square, rectangular and oval. This criterion determines the division of pipe profiles in the general assortment.
  • Geometric dimensions. For rectangular views, this is the width and height. And also the length of each segment.
  • Wall thickness. Quite a significant detail, because it determines the scope of further use.
  • Weight. An equally significant assessment that determines the quality level of goods. Through weight and geometric dimensions you can find out the wall thickness. This becomes very useful in situations where there is no access to measurements.

When describing steel corrugated pipes, it should be noted that their range is determined by GOST 8639-82. In this document, three main types of profile are distinguished:

  • Cold-formed.
  • Hot rolled.
  • Electric welded.

The first two are seamless, and the third is produced from sheet material using welding technologies.

It should be noted that any characteristic of a pipe depends on a number of its other indicators. For these reasons, we can conclude that the presence of a table of the corresponding calculated GOST values makes it possible to easily find out how high the level of quality is from a particular manufacturer.

Range of these products

In addition to these parameters, classification can be made by the following points:

  1. Steel marking.
  2. Absence/presence of finishing heat treatment.

The length parameters in this situation are determined by GOST 13663-86. This standard determines that steel pipes of various shapes are produced in standard measured sections, their length is from 1 to 12 meters.

The cross-sectional area of corrugated pipes is determined by GOST 8642-68; accordingly, these products were divided into 36 different types sizes with a cross-sectional value within the range of 0.6 by 0.3 cm, and 0.9 by 3.2 cm.

By profile type they are divided into:

  • Options made of oval steel.
  • Products with a rectangular cross-section.
  • With a square section.

Depending on the scope of application, these pipes are classified into:

  • Profiled pipes for furniture. The construction of them, as a rule, does not bear large loads.
  • Flat - oval types. Another name for them is an arch profile. It is more different complex manufacturing.
  • General purpose options. They are made from hot-rolled one and a half millimeter strip. Such products do not have high requirements for surface quality.
  • Construction. For their production, hot-rolled and low-alloy steel is used, which is characterized by increased strength.

Square profile

Square steel profile pipe is widely used in construction field.

It is the square shape that is the main advantage in this situation. It provides high stability and speed of installation work.

These materials act as a reinforcing element during the construction of support structures and frames. They can be found not only in construction. They are no less often used in the mechanical engineering sector.

Square pipes are divided into the following types:

  1. seamless cold deformation or cold rolled.
  2. seamless hot deformation or hot rolled.
  3. profile products produced from sheet material and through welding technologies.

The range of such goods consists of products with a wall thickness of 0.1 to 1.4 cm, and a length of six to twelve meters. Craftsmen call this type of product a guarantee of compliance with the financial costs of construction and their minimization.

Rectangular profile

Profile rectangular pipe is a type of pipe rolling materials rectangular shape. It's kind of a subspecies square options. It is also a hollow metal profile with a variety of different sizes volume and wall thickness.

They are used when assembling structures and building elements that play a load-bearing role. They are used for furniture frames, scaffolding for construction, children's areas and much more.

The features of the shapes and the low weight of the products significantly reduce the mass of the main structure, but the resistance to the influence of high loads in this situation increases. They are often used as a protection channel for wiring a network of cables.

The main differences are determined by GOST 8645-78. According to these standards, there are the following rectangular pipes:

  • with unmeasured length;
  • with measured length;
  • assortment with short measured length.

Depending on the type, the length of seamless or welded materials varies from 11.5 to 12.5 meters:

  • Seamless corrugated pipes of unmeasured and measured length, made by hot-rolling - from 4 to 12.5 m.
  • Seamless pipes of unmeasured length, made by cold-drawn method - from 1.5 to 12.5 m. And measured - from 4.5 to 11 meters.
  • Pipes of unmeasured length, made by electric welding - from 1.5 to 9 m, of measured length - from 5 to 9 m.

When working with such profile products, allowances of 0.5 cm are made for each part. The maximum indicator for exceeding the length level is generally 10 cm.

Electric welded profile

Electric-welded steel profile pipe is produced using different technological methods. The first of them is the formation of a profile from a flat workpiece. In this case, simple equipment is used, which is characterized by low energy costs. However, the resulting product has some disadvantages:

  1. uneven stress distribution in the transverse section.
  2. significant thinning of the profile blank in corner areas.

Change negative characteristics in in this case allow Hi-tech, which assume uniform stress distribution at the initial stage. In this case, a round blank with the required volume is formed.

Secondary processing in this case involves the formation of a section of the required dimensions and shape through the pressure of special rolls.

Galvanized steel profile

Galvanized profile pipe is a special type of rolled metal. The galvanized profile has increased anti-corrosion characteristics, which extends its service life.

The advantageous difference of a galvanized product is:

  • Speed of installation work and its convenience.
  • Increased strength.
  • Kink resistance.
  • Reducing the total weight of the structure without losing its strength capabilities.
  • Logistic convenience.

Their areas are very different, but the main ones are:

  • Construction of various scales.
  • Mechanical engineering.
  • Construction of prefabricated structures.

At the moment, this type of rolled metal can be found in billboards, fences, and retail premises. And everywhere these steel pipes fully meet all regulatory requirements.

Manufacturing Features

The production of profile pipes is more complicated and more expensive than the production of round pipes.

Technological methods for producing professional pipes are:

  • Pressing of round billets produced on rolling mills. This option is expensive, therefore, the second type is more popular.
  • Welded connection of strip profiles.

The first method is noteworthy in that it makes it possible to preserve the strength characteristics of steel pipes one hundred percent. The fact is that its connections are seamless. The production sequence using this method is as follows:

  • First, a conventional hot-rolled billet is produced with round shape.
  • Through the press it turns into an oval, takes on the shape of a square or rectangle.
  • Calibration of heated workpieces is carried out on the rollers of rolling equipment, so the products acquire the required dimensions.

Profiled pipes, which were manufactured using welding, are not very distinguishable from seamless analogues, but at the same time they lose up to 5 percent of strength. The release sequence in this case is as follows:

  1. Steel sheets are cut into strips.
  2. After this, such strips are rolled into a tape.
  3. It is fed into the rollers of molding machines, which deform flat sheets into professional blanks.
  4. The fastening seam is welded in special chambers filled with an inert medium.

Profile pipes actively used in construction, mechanical engineering, furniture production and other areas, presented at modern market in great variety. In order to streamline this diversity and classify these products according to certain criteria, such a concept as assortment was introduced.

The word “assortment” itself, if you turn to dictionaries, comes from the word “grade” and means a list of individual types of products that are presented on the market. In relation to profile pipes, the assortment means a set of types of these products manufactured manufacturing enterprises or available at the supplier's warehouse.

The range of pipes is presented in the form of a table or a simple list in which individual types of products are listed in accordance with their names in accordance with GOST 13663 86 (profile square, profile rectangular pipes, etc.). Such a table or list should contain all available types of pipes, for each of which all names are listed and characteristics are given.

The range of pipes belonging to the profile category is very diverse. They are classified according to various parameters, but the main one is the cross-sectional profile. So, pipes are distinguished:

  • with a rectangular profile;
  • square section;
  • flat oval;
  • oval;
  • with hollow ribs;
  • with a special type of profile.

The assortment is compiled separately for each type of pipe, which is regulated by the requirements of the relevant GOSTs.

Basic parameters of the most common profile pipes - square and rectangular sections

Metal pipes belonging to a particular type of profile can also differ in a number of parameters. The main parameters include:

  • the method by which the pipes are produced (they are cold-rolled, hot-rolled, welded);
  • materials used in production;
  • method of processing pipe ends;
  • main purpose.

The range of pipes presented by a particular manufacturer not only allows you to get acquainted with the range of its products, but also serves as an indicator of its level of development. Profile pipe is a type of steel pipe. This product category includes a wide range of rolled metal products. It is in high demand among construction, manufacturing, agricultural and engineering enterprises. How do these products differ and how to choose the right product from the range of profile pipes? Buyers have probably asked themselves similar questions. Experts and large manufacturers of long rolled metal products will help you understand the intricacies of the purchase.

What is a profile pipe

A profile pipe is a type of high-quality hollow metal. The profile of this pipe is characterized by several but different features from the round one. Thus, the options are:

  • square;
  • rectangular;
  • oval;
  • flat-oval;
  • arched.

The distribution reached pipes with square and rectangular profiles, which is explained by the correct cross-sectional shape.

Assortment of profile pipes

Speaking about assortment (this term comes from the concept of grade), we mean a list of varieties of products of a given type, which is offered on the goods market. Thus, the range of profile pipes includes rolled metal products, general characteristics which is a hollow structure and not round section. However, these products also have differences:

  • section shape;
  • material of manufacture;
  • production technology;
  • profile size;
  • wall thickness.

Profile form

This parameter is considered fundamental, since the range of products with different shapes section (profile) is indicated separately.

Types by shape:

  • Rectangular pipe. This type of rolled metal has 4 stiffening ribs, which makes it resistant to tearing and deflection. Equally important is the low weight, which is achieved due to the hollow structure. In addition to the benefits of the product, it is worth mentioning convenient storage and ease of transportation.
  • Square pipe. This product combines these advantages rectangular pipe, while it is characterized by compact dimensions. You can’t do without a range of profile square pipes in cases of tough limited space.
  • Oval, flat-oval, arched. These options are often used when special requirements from the object side. Polygonal and special profiles. Profile pipes with a polygonal cut or additional notches are also sold, but they are produced to individual orders.

Receiving technologies

All types of profile pipes, regardless of the profile shape, are produced using similar technologies.

There are 3 of them in total.

  1. Cold rolled. According to cold-rolled technology, the starting material for the production of profile pipes is ordinary round pipes of suitable diameter. The process comes down to running in round pipe on special machines. As a result, the product is given required form.
  2. Hot-formed. This manufacturing technology is similar to cold-rolled in that a round pipe is used as the starting material. However, there are also differences - before rolling, the pipe is heated to a high temperature. Thanks to this, high internal stress does not arise in the metal and gives the finished product a special performance characteristics.
  3. Welded. Production by the welded method involves the use of pieces rather than a round pipe sheet metal. They are rolled in to give the desired profile, and then connect the edges by welding.

GOST requirements for the range of profile pipes

Pipes with a profile other than round are considered one of the most important segments of all rolled metal products. They are widely used in construction and other important projects, so they must be manufactured to meet stringent requirements. According to GOST 30245-2003, the range of profile pipes is characterized as bent closed welded products with a profile in the form of a rectangle or square.

However, this GOST is far from the only regulatory document. For each type of profile pipe, additional requirements are provided.

Manufacturing materials

Another distinctive property of the profile pipe range is the material. The most commonly used is steel. She may be:

  • low alloy;
  • carbon;
  • stainless.

Each is assigned a nomenclature name. It certainly indicates the grade of steel, each of which belongs to one or another group. This characteristic significantly affects the strength, flexibility, durability and other indicators of the finished product (including cost). Less common are pipes made from other materials, such as aluminum.

Square pipes: varieties

With a square profile, they vary depending on the production technology. The range of cold-formed profile pipes includes products with a cross-section of 10-120 mm. The wall thickness can reach 1-8 mm.

Hot deformation products are produced with a cross-section of 30-140 mm, thickness can be 4-14 mm. Electric-welded profile pipes have a thickness of 1-5 mm and a cross-sectional size of 10-100 mm.

Rectangular section

Pipes with a rectangular cross-section vary in side sizes and wall thickness.

The smallest size pipes are 15*10 mm, and the largest are 230*100 mm. Wall thickness varies from 1 to 14 mm. The larger the section size, the greater the wall thickness should be. This allows the pipes to withstand increased loads and last for many years.

Advantages

The range of profile steel pipes has several advantages that allow them to be used in construction and industry:

  • Among all rolled metal products, profile pipes have the lowest metal consumption, which significantly reduces the weight and cost of the finished structure.
  • Such products are easy to bend, cut and weld, which reduces the speed of installation of products.
  • Taking into account sanitary and hygienic standards in production makes them easy to maintain.
  • Made of steel, the pipes are completely fireproof.

The buyer selects a product based on the main requirements of the project being implemented, the scope of application and operating features. In other words, there is not one perfect solution for two projects, completely different in direction, cost and application features.

Having examined the characteristics and differences of profile pipes, we can conclude: this type of rolled metal is diverse and can be extremely useful in many areas of industry. However, those products that were manufactured taking into account accepted requirements and standards will be durable and wear-resistant. For this reason, before purchasing rolled metal, you should read the supporting documents.
