DIY bathhouse lamps made of wood. Lamps for the steam room. Organization of lighting in the bathhouse

Bathhouse lighting is different from what we have in an ordinary home. Modern look arrangement of this room involves taking into account two components: safety standards and aesthetic appeal. To understand how to choose a lamp for a bathhouse, we will consider the main criteria that it must obey, and also study the nuances of each variety.

Requirements

It's no secret that the bathhouse is a place with a high degree of humidity. This is especially true for the steam room, where moisture rises and has a negative effect on switches, sockets and lamps. For this reason, lighting fixtures located in the bathhouse must have the correct placement, which is decided at the design stage.

There should be no socket or switch in the steam room. They are taken to a dressing room or other room with a lower moisture coefficient and connected at a height of at least 80 cm from the floor.

Let's consider the basic requirements for lamps in the steam room, which should not be less than the established IP-54 standards. These devices will have to work in difficult conditions, marking in the form of a red IP-54 icon says about the safety of the lamp when used in conditions high humidity:

  • IP stands for International Protection;
  • 5 – degree of protection against solid objects;
  • 4 – protection against steam and moisture leakage.

There are 4 main criteria that you need to pay attention to.

  • All components of the lighting device for the steam room must be heat-resistant. This means that they must withstand temperatures up to 120 degrees.
  • The lamp housing must be sealed. This rule is especially relevant for devices that use incandescent lamps. Each lamp must have a closed shade.
  • It is important that the device’s lampshade is durable. The design must withstand not only random mechanical impacts. A sharp change in temperature is also important, which should not affect the material of the lampshade.
  • The brightness of the lamp should be moderate. The bathhouse is a place for relaxation; there is no need to create bright light. It is important that the glow is soft and diffused.

Selecting housing and lamp power

The body of the heat-resistant lighting device for the walls and ceiling of the steam room is different. If the lamp is mounted in a wall, it must withstand temperatures of about 250 degrees. When the device is mounted to the wall, a 100 degree mark is sufficient.

The material of the lampshade can be:

  • porcelain;
  • ceramics;
  • heat-resistant plastic.

The seal must be made of rubber or silicone. This way moisture will not be able to get inside the lampshade.

You cannot use pendant lighting in the steam room - it is better to purchase surface-type lamps.

The maximum permissible power of light sources should not exceed 60-75 Watts. If the power of the light bulbs is higher, this will cause the lampshade to heat up. The recommended voltage is 12 V. To maintain it, you will need a transformer, which should be placed outside the steam room.

Layout principles

Installation of lamps for a bath in a steam room is subject to certain placement principles.

  • It is impossible to install lighting devices near the stove, even taking into account the fact that the lamps are heat-resistant and moisture-proof. Not a single device is designed for the powerful steam of a heater.
  • Excessively yellow and cold shade of the light flux is unacceptable. You cannot equip the space big amount devices - this is harmful to the eyes and will create pressure on the retina.
  • The arrangement of the devices must be such that no movement can touch it with your head, hands, or broom.
  • To prevent the device from hitting your eyes, it should be positioned so that it is behind your back or in the corner of the steam room.
  • The ideal placement is to install the lamp on the wall at a distance equal to half the height of the wall. This way the load on the device will be less.

Varieties

Today, lamps for a steam room in a bathhouse are classified according to the type of device and the source of the lamp. Let's consider the types of models.

Traditional

These devices are nothing more than classic lamps in closed shades that are mounted on a wall or ceiling. The design is distinguished by a laconic shape (usually round), consists of a reliable and sealed body, as well as heat-resistant glass, mainly of a frosted type. These models have a low cost, which makes them in demand among buyers. They are functionally reliable, but the deciding factor is the type of light source used under the shade. The design does not have parts prone to corrosion under the influence of moisture; they are equipped with a special waterproof gasket. Models are subject to the protection class of the established standard.

LED

These devices are now firmly among the top three most popular models; they have a lot of varieties. The main advantage of these devices is their resistance to any temperature regime and moisture. Depending on the type of lamp, it can even be mounted on the bottom of the pool, so this device for a bathhouse is much better suited than other varieties. Appearance Such devices depend on the wishes of the buyer.

Distinctive feature sealed devices is the presence of a special silicone film, which protects light sources. The sizes of LEDs can be different, which affects the intensity of the light flux. At the same time, the presence of the film makes the light soft and diffused. In form, LED lamps are spot models, panels and flexible diode strip with different densities of diodes per square meter.

Fiber optic

These devices are glass threads with light sources at the ends. Outwardly, they resemble a lamp in the shape of a panicle with luminous ends. This lighting has a high degree of safety, since fiber optic threads can withstand temperatures up to 200 degrees. They are not afraid of anyone extreme conditions, these lamps are durable and provide even and soft light in the steam room.

The advantage of such lighting is the fact that you can do it yourself without resorting to the help of an outside specialist. In this case, an important factor is to install the projector outside of moisture and heat (in another room), while the wires themselves can go into the steam room, forming, for example, a wall panel. Moreover, the greater the thickness of the beam, the more design possibilities (for example, you can recreate a starry sky with twinkling stars of different sizes).

Sources of light

Based on the type of light source, lamps are divided into several categories. Let's look at the main ones to understand their relevance in the steam room. Ignorance of these nuances can cause a dangerous situation.

Incandescent lamps

These light sources are classic Ilyich bulbs. They have an incandescent filament and produce a predominantly warm light. The advantage is the price, but they have more disadvantages. They convert the bulk of the electricity consumed into heat - a small part is used for light (no more than 5% of total consumption). At the same time, the lamps become so hot even without high temperature that touching them can cause a burn. They are uneconomical, add heat to the lampshade, and are dangerous for the steam room. These also include halogen lamps, whose properties are slightly better.

Luminescent

LED

These light sources are rightfully recognized as harmless. Their price is not much different from fluorescent ones. At minimum power they shine quite brightly, in fact they are energy saving and do not contain mercury. The service life of such light sources is longer than any other analogues.

Their glow is directional, so it will not be possible to illuminate the entire space without shadow corners with one such lamp. However, if you use a perimeter strip light with two rows of diodes, you can achieve even lighting in the steam room. Due to its elasticity, the tape can be laid around the perimeter without the need for cutting. It is easy to mount, which allows for angular lighting options.

How to choose?

When choosing a lamp for a bath in a steam room, you should pay attention to several nuances, knowledge of which will prolong the operation of the device and will not make you think about its safety.

  • When choosing, give preference to a device with a matte anti-fog lamp. With its help, the glow will be soft and diffused.
  • Portable mains powered lighting devices must not be used.
  • Exclude fluorescent lighting devices containing mercury from your selection list. In addition to the fact that during operation they will release it into the air, in case of an accidental impact the concentration of toxins will be especially dangerous to health. If the temperature in the steam room is high, these light sources may burst.

  • The class of sockets must not be less than IP 54, while the switch can be marked up to IP 44, but not lower.
  • It makes sense to buy fiber optic lamps: they are safer than incandescent lamps and have a pleasant glow for the eyes.
  • If the steam room and washing room are combined, pay special attention to the safety of the lamps. If this device will be mounted to the wall, take care of an additional lampshade or shield.
  • If your budget allows, opt for models with motion sensors.
  • In addition to wall lighting, emergency lighting may also be needed. In this case, LED strip will be the best solution.

In addition, do not forget the 4 golden rules of purchase:

  • you need to buy lamps and fixtures in a trusted store with a good reputation;
  • this product cannot be made from cheap raw materials;
  • If possible, check the operation of the lamps in the store itself;
  • do not buy goods at a discount - this is the first sign of a defect.

Installation

Every head of a family can install lighting in a steam room with his own hands. To do this yourself correctly, you should take care of a preliminary diagram in the form of a wiring drawing, which indicates the location of the lamps. In addition, it is important to purchase a wire with the required cross-section, which depends on the number of lamps. It is necessary to calculate the load and study the organization of grounding.

Let's look at a short step by step instructions installation of lighting in the bathhouse.

  • The location of the lamp is marked with a cross. If you plan to install two devices, they must be symmetrical.
  • Power wiring is carried out using a three-core wire packed in a protective corrugation.
  • The laying is done away from the recessed lighting in order to prevent the wires from melting during operation of the lamps, fixing the wire to the sheathing or frame using special clips.
  • When supplying power to a group of lighting devices, the cable is laid in a cable with loops. If you plan to install devices with small mounting caps, you should use a single wire running from the junction box.
  • It is necessary to check the wiring, for which they use a lamp socket and a wire. You should not rely on a tester indicating the phase: it will not show zero loss. If the result is positive, the stripped ends of the wires must be insulated.

  • After the wiring is completed, the walls are sheathed, while simultaneously cutting out holes for the lamps. The diameter of the required hole is indicated in the passport of the specific product. To do this, make markings, then use a drill or screwdriver.
  • If the model is a surface-mounted type, fasten the mounting plate using dowels, avoiding getting under the wire. Then connect the power, observing the polarity. The lamp is then secured with screws.
  • To mount the mortise model, cut the wire loops, after which the two resulting ends of the cable are connected to the ceramic cartridge using twists, trying to insert the ends from the bottom of the screws under the terminal block. In this case, you cannot do without wrapping it with electrical tape.
  • If the lamp power is 12 W, it is necessary to add a step-down transformer to the circuit. This is done through the hole for the lamp, placing the transformer up to 1 device (this will make it easier to change it if necessary).
  • Since the devices are mounted without lamps, at this stage it is necessary to check their operation.
  • All that remains is to close the lampshade and check the difference if there are several lamps.

When passing light into the steam room, you cannot use flax as a lampshade seal: it expands under the influence of moisture and promotes condensation in the lamp socket.

Manufacturers

Having studied the basic criteria for choosing a lamp for a steam room and installation techniques, the question arises of choosing a specific brand with a good reputation. On modern market There are many models presented.

Products from Turkish and Finnish manufacturers are especially in demand. For example, Finnish trade marks Tylo and Harvia offer customers specialized moisture-resistant models for baths.

Let's start with the fact that using a lampshade in a bathhouse automatically assumes that point light source. Because LED lights in the form of tapes does not need anything like that.

The next clarification concerns premises, in which lampshades can be used. So the main function of this part of the lamp is to slightly dim the light from the lamp; it is appropriate to use them in any of them, especially since the lampshade is also one of the varieties (however, now we use this word not only for round ceiling shapes, but many glass products scatter light).

Since the choice of item is determined by factors such as interior style, the taste of the owner and his financial capabilities, we will limit the topic of our article decorative elements of lamps used in the steam room– there are a number of limitations associated with them that you should be aware of.

Requirements

IMPORTANT! Specific lampshades in the bathhouse are used only in the steam room; in all other rooms they can be used as in the corresponding rooms of a residential building.

The lamp as a whole should not be afraid of moisture. Since you conduct electricity in wet room, maximum care should be taken to ensure that it does not come into contact with water. And for greater safety, you should connect the RCD (if you have questions or - follow the links, we have detailed materials on these topics).

So, tightness first of all. And it’s also important for the steam room heat resistance– the lamp should not be destroyed by high temperature.

Well, still environmental friendliness- It is impossible for any harmful organic matter to evaporate from it under the influence of temperature.

AND fire safety– it should not support combustion.

You will learn about which lamps can be installed and which – by following the links. A separate material combines information about

We also have material entirely dedicated to

Material

In principle, the material can be stainless metal, And glass, but we are talking about a bathhouse, or rather, even a steam room, so metal can be immediately rejected, because it will heat up and can burn. Glass…

Glass

Using glass in the steam room and washing room is completely acceptable in case if we're talking about about the matte shade, which hermetically protects the light bulb inside from water. Actually, there is not much choice here - you need a translucent material that transmits light well. Plastic is not suitable for steam rooms, (note in parentheses that it is not suitable even if it is produced by Harvia).

ATTENTION! However, we are not talking about decorative lampshades, which also have a protective function. Only the cap that directly covers the light bulb can be glass.

Decorative parts are made from other materials, which are discussed below.

Wooden

tree in in this case should be considered optimal material, given that the vast majority of owners choose as finishing material his own. So, in a log house or in a clapboard-lined steam room, a wooden structure will look best.

The tree differs in wood species. Of course, there is not always a choice, but listen to our words:

ADVICE! Do not use coniferous species when making a wooden lampshade for a bathhouse, because lamps, in addition to light, also emit heat, and coniferous ones have the unpleasant property of releasing resin when the temperature rises.

Any deciduous is suitable. Only if you are going to do something delicate, then softer species, such as linden or aspen, are suitable, and any tree is suitable for a more simple design.

With Himalayan salt

Himalayan salt in this case is used as a light diffuser. screen. This is possible both when choosing plates from it, and when filling the container with lump material.

Rock salt, of course, is harder than table salt, but its composition is approximately the same (with the exception of various additives such as iron, which gives it a reddish tint, and other salts - for example, sulfates, borates). What this means, first of all, is that under the influence of moisture and heat, halite (the name of the mineral, the same as “rock salt”) will slowly but steadily dissolve.

Regarding the fact that the effect of salt is healing... Well, NaCl (sodium chlorine) there is exactly the same as in a salt shaker. Other supplements are somehow not necessarily useful, like vitamins. Why do you need sulfur or boron salts? Microelements– if they really stand out as actively as they say, they won’t hurt, we won’t argue.

Salt plates or irregularly shaped pieces are very beautiful, especially when light filters through them. So The main argument in favor of choosing such a lampshade, after all, will be beauty.

Sauna lampshade: design

Regardless of the chosen material and shape of the future lamp, there are two standard types of design that are designed to be placed either along the wall or in one of the corners.

Corner

This design is considered more compact, as it occupies space that is usually empty during soaring procedures. That's why fewer options It’s awkward to touch or break, and the light spreads across two walls at the same time.

In the “top view” projection, it is either a triangle or a trapezoid. This allows attach it to both walls, providing greater stability.

Wall-mounted

The corner location is not always optimal. Then you can use the option of placing the lampshade on the wall surface.

ADVICE! If possible, step back some distance from the ceiling; in a steam room, it is not advisable to mount lamps on the ceiling or directly below it, because the hottest air and steam collects near the ceiling.

Wall-mounted options can be quite varied in design, but when placing it is worth considering the convenience of steamers and direction of light on items used in the steam room.

Bath lampshade: shape

An interesting point: somehow it happened historically that there are two main forms - these are lattice And screen. We will assume that other options, if they existed, died out due to some kind of unsuitability or inconsistency. Or the survivors turned out to be the simplest and most practical. (Of course, no one forbids doing something original; we are talking about the most common.)

Lattice

The question arises: what else could be made from slats or solid planks? As simple as possible and as effective as possible– assemble a lattice, a kind of “fence”, leaving slits for light.

IMPORTANT! The brightness of the lighting depends on the width and number of slots.

However, even with the simplicity of the idea, variations can be sufficient - the slats can be attached to bases that will give the structure a cylindrical or conical shape, or they will be combinations simple shapes, if you like.

BY THE WAY! The slats may not be solid - if you make a slotted pattern in them, then there will be a combination of a lattice and a screen.

The attractiveness of this form is that it perfectly matches the walls, finished with clapboard, or with log walls or timber. Overall, a lattice wood lampshade looks great on a wood wall. And the material for it can also be the remains of the same lining, unused during construction.

Screen

Different from the previous version no slots between the slats. And also because in central element usually something recognizable is cut out circuit. However, here, too, various variations are possible - there can be as many slotted elements as you like, not necessarily one central one.

Possible combinations with a lattice, when a lattice is made on the sides, and in the center there is a solid bar with a cut out outline.

The slot can be left as is, without any inserts, or you can experiment - put a decorative or practical diffusing material on the back side, for example, mesh or frosted glass (we’re not talking about plastic, because it’s hot in the steam room). Without the matte material, the light may be too harsh.

ADVICE! Instead of matte material, you can use a plate with numerous small holes.

For baths and saunas - is there a difference?

The difference between one and the other type of national bath is temperature And amount of moisture. In a Russian bath there is high humidity and relatively low temperature(no higher than 70 degrees), and in the sauna the humidity is low (5-15%), but the temperature is not less than 90 degrees, and even sometimes higher than 100!

Therefore, those varieties that are more sensitive to high humidity, should not be placed in a Russian bath. This primarily applies to the Himalayan salt lampshade for the bath. As mentioned above, it consists of the usual soluble salt NaCl, so moisture will spoil it.

Wood can be protected from moisture protect using impregnations and varnishes, which you can read about in the corresponding section.

High temperature is contraindicated for most species plastic, so use it in saunas absolutely not possible, and in Russian baths it is moderate, and this does not apply to lamps, because there the heating comes from the lamps themselves.

Otherwise there is not much difference - the same wooden models can be used as lampshades for baths and saunas.

With your own hands

Even a beginner can handle making a corner screen like this:

To work you will need jigsaw / jigsaw, sandpaper / sander. Actually, you won’t even need a hacksaw if the bars are not very thick. From the material - moisture resistant plywood or thin furniture panel And thin beam, screws, fasteners on the wall - ears, for example.

  1. First of all, decide on the size and cut out a screen from a sheet of plywood or panel.
  2. Mark the outlines of the future design on it and cut it out using a jigsaw or jigsaw.
  3. Sand the finished screen.
  4. Cut a thin beam as follows: the hypotenuse of the future triangle will be the width of the screen, and to it you can easily calculate the lengths of the legs, taking into account that the angle with the hypotenuse is 45 degrees. You need to make two such triangles to attach the screen at the top and bottom.
  5. The finished triangles are fastened with self-tapping screws and then attached to the screen.
  6. Ears are placed on triangles.
  7. All that remains is to protect the tree from moisture and you can hang it.

The topic of baths has already been raised more than once, and all because it is in such a place that a person can truly rest, relax and improve his health.

When setting up your bathhouse, you will need to take care of high-quality lighting. Below we will talk about how to make a lamp for a sauna and bathhouse with your own hands.

The baths are visited by many people, regardless of income, status and health.

Many of them dream of having their own steam room. Moreover, a skillful owner will not only invest in such a complex, he will not hire expensive designers and craftsmen, but will be able to do most of the work himself. That is, we can say with confidence that a structure such as a bathhouse can be made and equipped with your own hands, and even more so, you can hang bath lamps, and you don’t have to be an electrician.

To begin with, before you take on the job of creating bath lamps with your own hands, you should understand a number of nuances that may later affect the correctness of the work.

By by and large All of them can be described in three points:

  • You need to have experience connecting electric lamps, in particular lamps for baths and saunas.
  • You will need to choose lamps with a sufficient level of protection that will not be afraid of high temperatures and excessive humidity.
  • Next, you will need to make original lampshades, decorative screens and other decorations to create a design, for example, a lampshade for a bathhouse, and also combine them with the overall decor of the bathhouse as a whole.

Due to the vastness of all the topics, everyone can glean information on the first point from the literature on the rules of working with electric shock in conditions of excessive humidity.

Organization of lighting in the bathhouse

During creation technical project It is worth devoting enough time to developing an electrical diagram for the arrangement of lamps for a Russian bath, switches and sockets (more details: “Electricity in a bathhouse - DIY electrical installation tips”).

The priority, of course, is the location of the lamps.

Almost all rooms in the bathhouse are similar to rooms in a house or apartment, and everyone should know how the lighting will be organized in them. The lighting in the room or bathroom will correspond to that in the washroom and rest room.

We just need to discuss the steam room separately - the principles of lighting in it will be somewhat different.

The lighting system in a steam sauna or Russian bath must meet a number of criteria.

The main conditions are:

  • a lamp for a steam sauna bath should emit a soft light so that a person in a relaxed state does not squint and feels comfortable;
  • lighting in the steam room is chosen dimmed, leaving a slight twilight and allowing you to relax, since in the steam room there are no cosmetic procedures it is not customary to practice;
  • in the steam room it is better not to use overhead lighting, since the maximum air temperature is fixed precisely under the ceiling - it is optimal to place heat resistant lamps for a sauna on the central or lower levels;
  • in order to avoid injuries due to damage and failure of lighting fixtures, they must be protected with a protective screen or grille, which will prevent direct contact with electricity in conditions of high humidity, and also will not allow you to cut yourself with fragments if the lamp accidentally breaks;
  • Bathroom lamps made of wood, additionally installed near the font or barrel of water, at the doorway, and also above the shelves, would be useful.

By adhering to the specified conditions, you can be sure that all people in the steam room are guaranteed to enjoy the steam room and will not receive any injuries in the process.

Sauna lamps with moisture protection

To purchase truly high-quality waterproof lamps for a bath, you should pay attention to a number of significant indicators.

It is very important to keep track of:

  • So that the degree of protection of devices from moisture and coarse particles according to the international classification corresponds to values from IP 54 or more; Such data is usually indicated on the body or packaging of the lamps.
  • That the sauna lamp you choose is heat-resistant, that is, it can withstand high temperatures. As a rule, in various types In saunas, the air temperature can fluctuate from 60 to 120 ºС, so it is better to choose the most protected electrical appliance.

    For example, in a Russian steam room the temperature can reach 100 ºС, in Turkish baths the heat resistance of the lamp should correspond to 150 ºС, and in the case of ceiling lamps you need to pay attention to devices that can withstand 200-300 ºС. Read also: “Which lamps for saunas and baths are the most practical and safe.”

In addition, it is very important that the body of a heat-resistant lamp for a sauna and bath is reliably sealed with silicone or rubber to prevent moisture from penetrating inside the device.

It is optimal to choose equipment with LED or energy-saving lamps, which heat up much less than conventional incandescent light bulbs.

Making a lamp yourself

In this section we will look at how to make a sauna lamp with your own hands. True, in this case we are talking more about decorating a finished industrial product than about assembling a complete circuit of an electrical appliance.

In particular, we will tell you how to make decorative grilles, protective screens or openwork lampshades.

As for the lamps themselves, there can be various options - from fluorescent or LED to fiber optic. The choice depends only on the preferences and financial capabilities of the bathhouse owner, however, if we talk about price, fiber optic devices belong to the highest price category.

Decorating a lamp with a wooden lattice

Considering the interior of any self-built bathhouse, we can say with confidence that they very actively use various wooden elements, not only the design of walls or floors, but also decor.

In particular, if in the steam room all the walls, ceiling and even the floor are made of some kind of wood, then it would be quite appropriate to place lighting in it, decorated with wooden parts.

By the way, the wooden grille you make will carry not only a decorative, but also a purely practical load - to protect the lamp from accidental damage. A wooden lattice will make the lighting more subdued and diffused, will cast beautiful shadows and highlights on all surfaces, will help you relax and detach yourself from the rest of the world.

As a material for decoration, you can use leftovers and trimmings after covering the walls and ceiling in the steam room, then all the interior elements will be in the same color scheme and texture.

However, if you want to add specific aromas to your steam room, we recommend using larch or cedar wood to make gratings. In addition, such wood is also very durable.

Examples of decorating lamps with wooden grilles can be found in the photos attached to this material.

The structure of the lamp grille involves the presence of such structural elements as a frame and small slats attached to it at the top and bottom.

When manufacturing parts, it is worth considering the following nuances:

  • the shape of the frame will be different depending on the placement and outline of the lamp itself; Thus, a wall lamp can be equipped with a semicircular or rectangular frame, and if the device is located in a corner, the base is made in the form of a triangle or trapezoid;
  • Based on the size of the lamp, select the length of the rail for the grille; all sharp corners are carefully ground and rounded to give the finished product a more perfect, finished look, as well as ensure safe operation;
  • All structural parts can be connected together using metal screws, however, they must be secured with inside gratings so that no steel elements are visible from the outside; this will ensure safety, since when using the bath, the screws can become very hot and burn the skin.

In general, we can say that slats are made based on the result you want to get.

If you want to get a strict lattice, take rectangular slats of the required width and connect them in parallel rows or cross them in an “X” shape. If you want to get a more elegant product, the slats can be made in curly shapes.

Simple convex or concave curves in the center (you can combine them to create a kind of semicircular lattice) can be made by anyone with even basic knowledge acquired in school. And if a person also has a sufficiently developed imagination, then it would be a sin not to make the bars of the bars in the form of figures of living creatures.

We make several of these grilles, and we can assume that the lamp for the steam room is ready with our own hands.

What lamps should I choose for a steam bath?

Diffusing screen as decorative protection for the lamp

The decorative grille refers to one of the types of finishing of the lighting fixtures under consideration.

For scattering screens, as a rule, one of the following materials is used:

  • wood or bark;
  • strong and at the same time thin fabric (silk will do);
  • clay or ceramics;
  • plastic;
  • glass;
  • paper or cardboard.

In this case, however, the most acceptable material would be wood.

The choice fell on this material due to the following requirements:

  • high hardness, because the screen should not only look beautiful, but also protect from impacts;
  • having a low heat capacity, that is, the material should not overheat so as not to cause burns;
  • be easy to process with your own hands.

A number of other materials can be used to assemble elements of wooden grilles, or be part of lamps in other bath rooms, for example, rest rooms.

Building a screen for a lamp is quite simple; the manipulations are not much different from those when creating a grille. Instead of slats, you just need to attach a straight or curved wooden plate or bark plate with carved patterns to the base.

The holes can be made in any shape.

Most often they are made in the form of African masks, images of the sun, fire, various colors and all kinds of silhouettes. Fortunately, on the Internet you can find a pattern for every taste; you just need to print it out and transfer it to the template.

It is worth noting that the simplest type of screen can be a shelf or its back. Instead of an LED lamp, you can purchase a waterproof LED strip and glue it behind the back board.

As a result, we get a gentle light directed in the desired direction.

Above we looked at two of the simplest options for hand-finishing lamps for a bathhouse. They will definitely be enough to give the couple uniqueness, so that friends and family will definitely admire your talent. In any case, everyone will be able to relax to the fullest in such a pleasant atmosphere!

Manufacturers

Lamps for saunas and baths are designed not only to illuminate the room, but to create a feeling of peace and relaxation in it.

Below we will describe how, along with technical parameters bulbs for the steam room, take into account the aesthetic side and select the correct luminous flux.

Excessive light in the steam room will not allow you to fully relax, and dim light can cause trouble. When choosing lamps for a sauna, it is better to choose sources that emit a warm, slightly yellowish tint of light, as it helps you relax better than other spectrums.

Security

To maintain safety, lighting for baths and saunas must be equipped with protective shades and made from materials that are not subject to rust (more details: “How to choose the right waterproof lamps for a bath - the main types and differences”).

Such decisions may degrade the design a little, but safety should always come first.

Moreover, the lamps for the steam room in the bathhouse are equipped with wooden grates, which gives them additional attractiveness. Design, as a rule, is not put in first place - everything is for the sake of quality.

The main thing is that the lighting in the sauna, created by yourself, can withstand high temperatures and be resistant to excessive humidity.

Steam room lamps must withstand temperatures exceeding 100 °C. They are often mounted near the ceiling. Ideally, the lamps can withstand temperatures of 120 °C.

DIY sauna lamps

Types of lamps

You can see the following types of lamps on sale:

  • using incandescent lamps;
  • LED sauna lamps;
  • fiber-based systems.

The use of conventional incandescent lamps as lighting

The housing of such lamps must be resistant to high temperatures and humidity.

Such lamps must have seals to ensure tightness. Picking up the right lamp, you need to pay attention to models with a safety class higher than IP56, indicating that the product is not afraid of moisture.

In these luminaires it is allowed to use incandescent lamps with a power equal to or less than 60 W.

Higher wattage lamps are prohibited as they get very hot. Given that the walls are covered wooden material, which is already quite heated by the stove, an additional ten degrees or more can provoke a fire.

LED bath lamps

LED lights for baths and saunas can be called almost completely safe and reliable.

They are resistant to high humidity, and some models of such lamps comply with the IP65 safety class. This indicates that even under direct pressure of water, a dangerous situation will not arise. LED lamps for saunas and baths have their disadvantages. For example, they shine very brightly, but if they are distributed correctly, then this deficiency can be compensated.

There are models in which, using the control panel, you can not only adjust the brightness, but also the shade of the lighting. There are quite a lot of LED lamps for steam rooms in baths on the market, and they all have a fairly high cost, but they will help you get the most different solutions in the field of lighting.

Fiber optic lighting in the bathhouse

Fiber optic lighting systems can be called absolutely safe. This is because optical fiber conducts and emits only light waves. Since there is no electricity, this makes it possible to use such lighting elements anywhere under any conditions. For example, fiber optics are installed when they want to illuminate the bottom of a pool, or even create beautiful effects there.

Optical fiber can be used in environments with temperatures up to 200 °C, which makes it possible to install them even on the ceiling of a Russian bathhouse. Their luminous flux can be called soft, so it is easy to create a cozy atmosphere, thereby allowing anyone to relax. And if you add to the list of all positive qualities such points as cost-effectiveness, ease of installation, long term service, you immediately understand why the demand for LED lights for steam rooms is growing every day.

In what place and what type of lamp is it better to install

The main thing when choosing the right light bulb is to decide on its type and where it will be installed.

When installed in a steam room

When it comes to a steam room, in this case the lamp should not be installed near the stove.

There is a high probability that it will not be able to withstand such a strong hot flow from the hot walls, even if it is considered resistant to very high temperatures.

There are often cases when lamps are installed in a corner - there they definitely won’t bother anyone.

As an option, you can install a horizontal lamp at the junction of the wall and ceiling. There are also LED strips, which can be attached to a corner decorative protective non-flammable layer.

If you are setting up Finnish sauna, then it is best to install a ceramic sauna lamp.

All other lighting devices that do not have a ceramic base, including expensive Finnish models, simply stop working after some time. In a Russian bath, where the temperature in the steam room reaches 50-70 °C, you can use any heat-resistant material. But due to excessive humidity, moisture-resistant bases are needed, including stainless steel, aluminum and heat-resistant plastics. In any case, the material must withstand temperatures of 100 °C or more.

When installed in a washing room

As a rule, high temperatures do not occur in the sink, but there is excessive humidity and splashes of water are possible.

This becomes especially dangerous when there are sources of electricity nearby (read: “Electricity in the bathhouse - DIY electrical installation tips”).

You will need to purchase a lamp with the same protection class as needed for the bathroom.

There are three zones in the room that will require lamps of different classes:

  • The first zone is located as close as possible to water sources.

    Due to high humidity and the presence of splashes in such places, you will need lamps operating at 12 V, with a protection class higher than 5 (IP 45, 46, 47, 55, 56, and so on).

  • The second zone is 0.6 m away from the water source, be it a bath, shower or swimming pool. Since drops practically do not reach such a distance, you can choose models with protection class 4 and higher.
  • The third zone includes dry and almost dry parts of the room - lamps with protection class 1 and higher are suitable.

If installation is carried out in the rest room

In such rooms, increased humidity is possible from time to time, which will require installing models with the lowest protection class: not lower than 1.

Choosing between a spotlight and a strip light

It’s worth understanding in a little more detail where and how to do the lighting. If this is a steam room, then in this case it is better to equip it with diffused lighting. In this regard, LED lamps and LED strips are suitable, and it is better if the LEDs themselves emit diffused rather than directed light.

As already mentioned, it is better to place the lamp above a shelf or in the corners.

As an option, you can highlight the backs and shelves from below - the result should please many.

The washing room should be equipped so that there is enough light and so that it is not harsh.

The break room requires a different approach. The light must be present in different intensities. For example, if you want to relax after a broom, diffused light will be preferable, but if you want to read, you will need brighter light.

It is better to place all lamps in different zones.

That, in fact, is all an electrician needs to know.

Manufacturers

As a rule, almost always when choosing any equipment, a discussion arises about which manufacturer’s product is better to choose. Finnish manufacturers Tylo and Harvia occupy leading positions in the market of bath and sauna lighting.

They offer heat-resistant lighting sources, albeit at a very decent price, but they certainly don’t lack in quality and durability (read also: “What kind of heat-resistant cable is needed for a bathhouse and how to install it”).

Over the years, their products for baths and saunas have proven themselves to be the best on the market.

In other rooms, you can pay attention to cheaper products.

Lighting from the manufacturer Linder are sold at a slightly lower cost, naturally their quality is also worse.

In addition, you can find many products from German, Czech and Russian manufacturers on sale. Although, everyone should choose for themselves the device that suits them best in terms of characteristics, cost and appearance.

Practical tips for installing light in the bathroom
Lighting technology

Depending on how well thought out and implemented the lighting in a steam bath is, it depends not only on entertainment, but also on the safety of human life and health.

Therefore, it is very important that we take a responsible approach to the selection and installation of lighting devices, as will be discussed below in our material with photography.

First and foremost, we have found that to ensure that bathtub lights are needed, they must be selected for installations that meet fire safety requirements and can operate in high temperature and humidity environments.

That's why best choice is ceramic, porcelain or made of fire-resistant plastic lamps.

Installing power in the steam room

To understand bathroom lighting in a lawsuit, the first thing you need to do is design the electrical network in that room, that is, how to estimate how the cable should be.

And then you can proceed directly to the implementation of the project.

First of all, you need to keep the wiring in the room. Often the source of electrical energy is electrical shield inside the house, so he needs to be pulled out of it. And sometimes it makes sense to move the wires directly from the post. Cable installation can be carried out in two ways: overhead and underground.

Of course, the overhead method of connecting electricity is much simpler and more convenient, but also cheaper.

However, you should consider the climate conditions in your region. If the outside temperature can exceed the 40°C limit, the cross section must be increased by ¼.

It is advisable to use a self-supporting power cable that does not require additional support. Although it is a little more expensive, in this case the cost is justified.

To avoid damaging the cable, it is necessary to repair special clamps. And you can get inside the wall or roof.

Also pay attention to where the cores are made in the cable.

Copper conductor cable can be used for safe operation and efficient lighting of the steam room. And if it is aluminum, it is necessary to increase the cross-section of the wires.

Then you can proceed directly to connecting the steam room lighting.

However, we must not forget a number of important rules:

  1. Switches and sockets should be installed outside the steam room or sauna room as temperature and humidity settings do not affect the proper operation of these devices.

    It is best placed in a break room or reception area.

  2. There should be no bend in the cable route. In extreme cases, the wire can only be bent at a right angle.
  3. You can't choose daytime running lights to illuminate the steam room. These devices cannot withstand high temperatures and may explode and release harmful mercury. The most suitable are optical lamps installed in the corners of the room, where the least amount of vapor falls.
  4. The opening height of the holes is 50 cm from the ground, and the switch is 150 cm.

    At the same time, it is necessary to reduce the power of the lamps to prevent damage to the cables due to humidity.

  5. When installing electrical wiring and lighting in your steam room, be sure to install automatic devices that will automatically shut off the power in the event of an overload.

Another important issue concerns hardware requirements.

For installation in a sauna, only sockets with a safety class of at least IP 54 are suitable, and switches must not be worse than IP 44.

Strengths of lighting in a steam room

All lightweight bathtub fixtures should be selected to ensure they are equipped with protective shades that prevent direct contact with skin and prevent damage to the lamp (see "How to Select Protective Shades When Water is the Main Type and Difference").

In addition, we must not forget about the insulation of wires and wiring.

Of course, you can work in a steam room without lighting if you do it in small windows. However, in this case, the steam chamber cools faster due to heat loss, which means that additional heating of the wall is required. And another bathroom can only be used during the day.

If you do decide to cut window openings, the dimensions should be approximately 500 x 500 mm. In this case, you should double-glaze the two panes to increase the heat in the steam room.

Features of installing lamps in a closet

In principle, there are no strict restrictions on how to light a waiting bathroom.

On the contrary, in this room you can let the design fly, meaning there are endless possibilities for organizing the lighting.

As a general rule, try installing all switches, sockets, and all necessary electrical devices in the lobby.

Since the main source of illumination is usually ceiling chandelier or dissipates more wall lamps, which create a comfortable atmosphere in the room. Additional decorations can be made using LED strips that allow you to target a specific area in the closet.

How to Edit Lighting for Showers and Pools

In the shower and in the immediate vicinity of the pool, DIY bath lighting should be as careful as possible to avoid injury.

Due to the high temperatures in these areas, you can use all types of lighting products, such as fluorescent lamps, floodlights and various LED strips. In addition, special emphasis on the Jacuzzi is also welcome if you take care of its equipment.

However, when installing lights in a pool or hot tub, use equipment that operates at reduced voltage and has an enclosed housing.

In terms of connectors and switches, this is ideal if installed in the foyer. If this is not possible, use equipment with a safety rating of at least IP 44 and install it in areas where there is no risk of wetting.

In the toilet, it is very convenient to use LED strips with a safety rating of IP 68, which can operate at low voltage.

Lighting using optical lamps can be considered the most acceptable from the point of view of safety, functionality and energy efficiency.

With other devices, such devices have many advantages:

  • small size that saves space;
  • multifunctionality, that is, the possibility of installation in premises for various purposes;
  • economy - low energy consumption;
  • safety for people.

Since it is necessary to provide lighting outside the sauna, especially if it must be used in the dark, it is important to ensure that the approaches to it are as visible as possible.

In this case, of course, it is better to use energy-saving lighting devices.

If the equipment installation is directly on the walls, it should try as few holes as possible.

Bathroom lighting: like the lamps themselves

When connecting devices to the network, it is better to install wiring from the walls and thermal insulation.

Lighting technology

The process of connecting lighting in the bathroom includes a strict sequence of measures.

First, you have to think about how to transfer the light into the bath, which is the electrical installation. The cable can be brought to the building between the ceiling and the roof, which secures it to the lower rafters.

In addition, the installation of lamps begins in the sauna. For ease of use of the bathroom, the light should be placed above the entrance to it.

You can rely on point tools to successfully install the fixture in the outer plastic trim liner.

The next step is to install lamps in all wiring.

In the bathroom you can use economical lamps with a power of 5 W, but at the entrance it is better to make the device stronger - from 17 W. If you stay with glass mirror bulbs, you can get more efficient, brighter lighting that won't splatter.

As an alternative to sunbathing in the bathroom, you can use outdoor lighting.

To do this, 1.5 m from the walls of the steam room, the external lamps are located in the ground, located between each other. However, this work will require a lot of time, effort and money from the artist.

To organize such lighting you will need:

  • Make sure there are no obstructions in the lighting area;
  • The power cord must be placed underground;
  • install several lamps.

We hope this article will help you understand how to properly light a bathtub, how to route cables, and what rules you follow.

If done correctly, you will be comfortable, safe and equipped in your tasting room while saving the cost of a professional.

Heat-resistant lamps for baths and saunas

The high temperature and humidity level in the steam room does not allow the installation of standard lighting fixtures in such rooms. The main requirements that bath and sauna lamps must meet are:

  • complete tightness
  • heat resistance
  • certain voltage

In this regard, there are main types of lighting devices used to equip these premises:

  • Classic, equipped with a standard incandescent lamp.

    Lighting in the bath: how to make electrical wiring in the steam room correctly with your own hands

    Can be mounted on walls (wall or corner) or ceiling. The body is made of anti-corrosion materials; to ensure complete tightness, a special gasket is provided between it and the lampshade. To create a softer light and decorate such a lamp, wooden lampshades are often used.

  • Fiber optic lamps for baths and saunas.

    Among the advantages of such lighting devices are moisture resistance, heat resistance up to 200 degrees Celsius, durability, and ease of installation. The fiber optic system, as a rule, is hidden in the casing, which makes it possible to translate even the most original design ideas into reality in the interior of the steam room.

  • LED lamps that allow you to create high-quality lighting and significantly reduce energy costs.

    The most popular version of such lighting devices is the “Starry Sky” set, which consists of a large number of small diodes resembling stars. LED lamps are often used in hammams.

Impeccable quality and wide selection of lamps for saunas and baths

Our catalog contains wide choose high-quality lamps from leading manufacturers of equipment for saunas and baths.

Modern design, reliable protection from high temperature and moisture - these are the main characteristics of the lighting devices presented on our website.

A lampshade for a bath is an important element of decoration, which, along with practical value, also has great aesthetic value. It protects the socket and lamp from moisture and mechanical stress, and also serves as an interior decoration.

Peculiarities

Due to operation in extreme conditions, lampshades for baths and saunas must meet the following requirements:

  • Strength. The lampshade or shade must be strong enough so as not to burst from overheating and injure people;
  • Environmental Safety. Under the influence of high temperatures, there is a risk of releasing harmful fumes from plastics into the environment, so the lampshade should be made of natural or harmless artificial materials;
  • Fire safety. The material from which the product is made must be non-flammable or treated special composition;
  • Moisture resistance and durability. The use of fabric and paper options is not allowed

Varieties

In view of special requirements requirements for products for baths, there are not so many materials from which a lampshade for a bath can be made. The following types of lampshades are most suitable for working in conditions of high humidity and high temperatures:

  • Glass. Made from thick frosted glass in the form of sealed wall-mounted lampshades. In such models, the use of incandescent lamps is allowed. Products may vary in shape and color of the ceiling lens. The lampshade of the lamp, made in the form of a kerosene lamp, looks very original. It is transparent and follows the shape of the protective glass of a kerosene stove, and in combination with metal parts a product with such a lampshade looks very impressive;
  • Heat-resistant plastics, stainless steel and aluminum can also be used in the manufacture of lampshades for some bathhouses and saunas. The main requirement for them is the ability to withstand temperatures up to 100 degrees;
  • Tree. An environmentally friendly natural material that fits perfectly into the interior of the bathhouse and is its decoration;
  • Himalayan salt. Products using Himalayan salt not only create a pleasant soft light, but also release beneficial substances into the environment that have medicinal properties and a calming effect. When heated, the salt ionizes the room and creates the effect of a salt cave, the healing microclimate of which is useful for bronchopulmonary pathologies, diseases of the central nervous system and problems with skin. Thanks to their translucent structure and unusual textured pattern, lampshades made of Himalayan salt create a soft, flickering light stream and are able to create a unique atmosphere.
  • Tree. An environmentally friendly natural material that fits perfectly into the interior of the bathhouse and is its decoration.

Salt slabs can be mounted into the wall on top of the light source and serve as a diffusing screen, or they can be made in the form of lampshades and semi-plafonds.

For the manufacture of industrial lampshades and grilles, cedar, linden and abash are used, capable of withstanding extreme conditions and not losing their original appearance for a long time:

  • Linden- the most inexpensive material that emits a pleasant aroma when heated and does not swell when exposed to high humidity.
  • Cedar and abash- more expensive materials that have a beautiful wood fiber structure and resistance to heat. It is impossible to burn your hands on products made from such tree species; they retain their aesthetic appearance for a long time, are moisture resistant and durable. Models made from such materials can be used both in the washing room and in the steam room.
  • Look beautiful and rich lampshades made from several different types of wood. Thanks to the different fiber structure and shade, products with such a screen or grille look very decent.
  • When making lampshades with your own hands, you use vine, birch bark and bast. These materials are easy to cut and grind, are not afraid of moisture, and are inexpensive.
  • Conifers , such as pine and spruce, are not recommended for the production of bathhouse lamps due to increased separation of resin under the influence of high temperatures and the possibility of getting burned on the surface of the product.

Wooden lampshades can be made in the form of a diffuser screen and a decorative grille. The screen is a flat or slightly curved thin sheet with one or more diffuser holes on it, through which light enters the room. Based on the type of fastening and design, screens are divided into corner and wall. For small rooms it is better to choose a corner option. It takes up less space and reliably protects the lamp from accidental contact and damage.

Wall models require careful selection of lamps, due to the possibility of splashes and the likelihood of mechanical impact.

Lampshades in the form of a decorative lattice are in perfect harmony with all the decorative elements of the bathhouse, made of wood of various species. The grille can be made of flat rectangular slats, long cylindrical parts or rods, which can either be fastened together or have individual fastenings, installed in grooves.

Pairs perfectly with wooden tubs, buckets and scoops, they add the finishing touch to the design of the room.

When using a lampshade in the form of a wooden lattice, you need to take into account the properties of the wood and choose species that are not prone to swelling. And the location of the lamp in reverse side and pointing it at a reflective convex stainless steel plate will help avoid striped shadows from the grille. The location of the grille depends on the shape of the wooden decorative grilles. If a lamp with such a lampshade hangs in a corner, then a trapezoidal or triangular shape is suitable. Wall-mounted models can be square or rectangular, and a semicircular grille that covers the lamp almost entirely will allow you to achieve diffused light.

DIY making

The most simple option, which you can make yourself is a corner diffusion screen, which can be made in the following way:

  • take a thin wooden sheet and mark on it the height and width of the future screen;
  • in the center of the resulting rectangle or square, draw a hole of any shape. It can be geometric figures, outlines of a maple leaf or any other shapes;
  • carefully cut out the scattering hole according to the pattern and carefully sand the workpiece;
  • cut the screen along the pre-drawn contour and sand the edges with sanding paper;
  • using self-tapping screws, connect three bars in the shape of a triangle, where the hypotenuse will correspond to the width of the prepared part with a shaped hole for dispersion and attach the lower part of the workpiece to the hypotenuse;
  • make another triangle of exactly the same dimensions to fix the screen on top;
  • Install the finished structure in a corner using fasteners.

You can also make a lampshade grill yourself:

  • make a C-shaped drawing of a part that will serve as a frame on thick paper;
  • attach the pattern to wooden blank, outline and drank two identical parts, then using sandpaper polish them;
  • step back one centimeter from the edge and draw a line that exactly repeats the shape of the workpiece. From the resulting line, indent another 1 cm and also draw. The result will be two parallel lines. Line the second part in the same way;
  • cut a groove on both workpieces with a depth of 5 mm along the drawn lines;
  • make wooden slats 1 centimeter wide and height corresponding to the height of the future lampshade and sand them;
  • Place the bottom piece on a flat surface and insert the slats into the groove by tapping with a hammer. The distance between the slats is pre-marked on the workpiece using a pencil and ruler;
  • after all the slats are securely fixed in the lower part of the frame, carefully place the second workpiece on top and guide each slat into the groove of the upper workpiece, carefully using a hammer to finish assembling the structure;
  • using self-tapping screws and fastening elements attach the lampshade to the wall.

A lampshade for a lamp in a steam room is necessary to protect against burns and to diffuse light. With its help, they complement the interior and create a unique atmosphere in the room. You can make it in the form of a grating or scattering screen with your own hands, following the instructions below.

Content:

There are many requirements for lighting fixtures in a steam room. The light should be soft, create a relaxing environment, and not irritate the eyes. At the same time, it is also important to think about safety and eliminate the possibility of getting burned by a light bulb. Lighting fixtures in a bathhouse, as a rule, are equipped with special lampshades that help “adapt” the light to all requirements.

The need for a lampshade in the bath

Traditionally, lamps are placed on the wall behind a shelf, most often in a corner. In this case, they do not irritate the eyes and provide good illumination for the heater and bucket of water. A lampshade is necessary to dim bright lighting, protect against burns, and complement the interior.

Several lighting sources should be installed in the steam room so that if one light bulb burns out, you will not be left in complete darkness. Each lamp must be covered with a lampshade.

Preparing to make a lampshade for a bath

Even without special carpentry skills, you can build a lampshade for a lamp in a steam room with your own hands. The main thing is to choose the right material and decide on the model (corner or wall) of the decorative grille-lampshade and the size of the product. It will be easier to work using pre-cut paper patterns.

It is best to make a lampshade from wood. You can also use birch bark, bast, and vine. These materials have the most suitable performance characteristics for a steam room:

  1. Low thermal conductivity;
  2. Safety;
  3. Ease of processing;
  4. Heat and moisture resistance;
  5. Durability;
  6. Durability (to protect the lamp from mechanical shocks);
  7. Decorative;
  8. Compliance with the overall interior.
When choosing wood for a decorative grille, give preference to linden, aspen, cedar or larch. The last two types, by the way, emit a pleasant aroma when heated.

It is not advisable to use coniferous species (pine, spruce) for production. When heated they release specific aroma and resinous substances that can cause burns. If you still decide to save money and make a lampshade from coniferous wood, then choose a material with shrinkage of up to 15%.

Some owners use leftovers to create a lampshade. wooden lining, which was used to decorate the steam room. This option is also quite acceptable. In this case, the lampshade will completely harmonize in color with the overall cladding.

Additionally, you will need fine-grit sanding paper. When choosing fasteners, give preference to galvanized ones. They are not affected by corrosion, and therefore are optimally suited for use in aggressive environments, in particular at elevated temperatures and humidity.

Please note that it is important to sand the wood very well so that if you accidentally touch it, you will not drive a splinter into it. It would also be a good idea to treat it with several layers of fire-fighting and antiseptic composition.

Do-it-yourself wall grille-lampshade for a bathhouse

Lattices can be the most different options: longitudinal, diagonal, straight, curvilinear. The look depends on your skills, patience and ability to process wood. We will consider a variant of the traditional direct model for wall mount.

We carry out the work in the following sequence:

  • Draw the shape of the frame on paper. It can be U-shaped or C-shaped. We make two identical patterns at once for the upper and lower parts of the base.
  • Trace the paper pattern onto the wood with a pencil and cut it out.
  • Carefully sand the edges first with coarse-grained paper, then with fine-grained paper. When grinding, we try to comply same sizes top and bottom.
  • We retreat 1 cm along the outer contour and draw a line with a pencil, repeating the bends of the base. We do this on two parts.
  • We retreat another 1 cm from the drawn lines and repeat the procedure on both products.
  • We mill a groove 1 cm wide between the two lines. Its depth should be about 0.2 cm.
  • Starting from the edge of the groove, we make indentations 0.5 cm deep, 1 cm wide in increments of 1 cm. Repeat the procedure on the second product.
  • We cut out thin slats from wood with a cross section of 1 cm 2. Their height should correspond to the desired height of the lampshade. The number of prepared lattice “rods” is equal to the number of recesses made.
  • We carefully sand each part with coarse and fine-grained sanding paper.
  • We insert each element into the recess and tap if necessary wooden hammer so that it goes all the way into the hole.
  • We install the second part of the housing on top. We direct each part of the lattice into the corresponding recess. Tap the top element with a wooden hammer. Please note that the upper and lower parts of the frame must be parallel to each other.
You can install such a lampshade on the wall using galvanized self-tapping screws. If desired, you can cut out curved or spiral parts of the product in the same way.

How to make a corner decorative grill for a bath

If you do not know how to use a milling machine or cannot get one, then there is another way to make a lampshade for a bathhouse lamp with your own hands. To do this you will need galvanized fasteners. It is advisable to use self-tapping screws. In this case, the caps need to be deepened into the wood to avoid burns.

We make a lampshade following these instructions:

  1. On paper we cut out a blank for the lower part of the trapezoidal frame. The side ribs of the figure should be close to the walls in the corner of the steam room.
  2. We transfer the drawing with a pencil onto the wood and cut it out.
  3. Sand thoroughly first with coarse-grained paper, then with fine-grained paper.
  4. We cut out three strips 1 cm wide, 0.5 cm thick, and the height required for the lamp.
  5. We nail along the edges and in the middle, connecting the upper and lower parts of the frame.
  6. Next, you need to measure the distance from the middle plank to the outer ones and cut the planks of the same width and thickness. The length must correspond to the measurements taken.
  7. We screw the strips with self-tapping screws from the inside to the middle and outer crossbar on both sides.
  8. We fill the top and bottom along the grill with slats.
If desired and if you have free time, the planks can be fixed not horizontally, but diagonally in different directions on each side.

Making a corner diffuser screen for a bathhouse

An original addition to the interior of the steam room will be a home-made lampshade for a bathhouse lamp in the form of a kind of diffusing screen. It’s not at all difficult to make, the main thing is to decide what shape the scattering hole will be.
  • We prepare a piece of thin board or wooden lining, the width and height of which corresponds to the parameters of the future lamp.
  • In the middle we draw the shape of a scattering hole. It could be a maple leaf, an abstraction, a figure of a naked girl, a fairy-tale Leshy, or any arbitrary image. It is important that it is not too small for sufficient light penetration and not too large so as not to blind the guests in the steam room.
  • Cut a through hole along the contour of the picture.
  • Sand the wood with fine-grained paper.
  • We knock three bars with a cross-section of 4 cm2 with galvanized fasteners into a right triangle, where the length of the hypotenuse should correspond to the width of the workpiece.
  • Using the same pattern, we knock down the second element. We sand the wood.
  • We attach the triangle at the top and bottom to the pre-prepared screen with self-tapping screws.
  • We fix it to the wall using galvanized fasteners.
The canvas on which the pattern is cut does not have to be rectangular shape. You can use a shape in the form of an inverted bow, a trapezoid, or simply with curved lines.

Weaving a lampshade from a wicker for a bath

Weaving from thin wicker requires more effort and time, but we will consider the simplest version of the lampshade. Let's take willow twigs as a basis, since they are quite flexible and strong.

We weave a lampshade, adhering to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. We steam the rods so that they become more pliable in processing.
  2. After drying, we take three wooden and strong twig stands. Their height should correspond to the expected height of the lamp.
  3. We fix them in a strictly vertical position.
  4. We take the first rod, lead it behind the first post, pass it in front of the second and again behind the third.
  5. We bend it and carry it out in the reverse order in the same way.
  6. We repeat the action until the end of the twig. We take the next one and weave it in the same order.
  7. We weave to the top of the posts. We get a kind of canvas.
  8. At the top and bottom along the width of the canvas we nail a thin strip with a cross section of 4 cm 2.
  9. We nail two more planks of this cross-section to the base at an angle of 90 degrees to each other to form a triangle.
  10. We repeat the same procedure on top. For these purposes we use galvanized fasteners.
  11. We fix the lampshade in the corner of the steam room.
By improving your weaving skills, you can make a semicircular model or lampshade of other fancy shapes.
