Sliding doors for wardrobes. Sliding doors. Installation of profiles and frames

Functional and beautiful furniture- the key to comfort and coziness in every home, so you need to approach the choice of such interior items carefully. But what to do if there is no cabinet in the store that matches the design or size? Then the wardrobe can be assembled independently. But to do this, you need to learn how to make doors for a sliding wardrobe with your own hands, and then install them.

A wardrobe with a compartment design is a system, the purchase of which will make it possible to successfully plan the space of a room, highlight the features of the interior, and solve the issue of storing personal belongings. As soon as such furniture appeared on the domestic furniture market, buyers immediately fell in love with it for its huge number of advantages.

Many people are hesitant to assemble a cabinet themselves, but in reality it is not that difficult if you prepare and divide the work into stages. You should start with purchasing the necessary materials, the volume of which depends on the selected size of the structure. Therefore, the first thing to decide is what material to use and what size the structure will be.

The following materials are used to create compartment furniture:

  • Chipboard - belongs to the category of common and affordable materials for making doors for sliding wardrobes. Chipboard is varied in color scheme, practical, easy to cut. If you decide to assemble a wardrobe with your own hands without experience in such matters, opt for chipboard;
  • MDF is a more expensive material than chipboard, but it has higher performance characteristics. MDF is afraid of moisture, under the influence of which the film can become detached from the base, which will significantly worsen appearance furniture. But in general, a sliding wardrobe with 2 doors made of MDF looks very decent;
  • solid wood is a durable, incredibly beautiful, wear-resistant option. But it’s not cheap, and it’s difficult to work with natural wood Only an experienced furniture craftsman can do this. If you are a beginner, it is better to choose a material that is easier to work with – chipboard or MDF.

The dimensions of a particular cabinet are selected for the room in which it is planned to be installed. Look around and take measurements to understand what length, width and height of furniture will work best. The height of such furniture may vary.

Models of non-standard sizes are made to order or independently. Experts insist that in small rooms the closet should be made as high as possible. This will allow you to fit the maximum number of things into it.

Drawing and detailing

Today, sliding wardrobes are popular among residents of small-sized city apartments and owners of spacious country cottages, because they have high functionality, practicality, serve for a long time without breaking, and retain their visual appeal for a long time. You can fit such a piece of furniture into almost any room in size and style. And to spend a minimum amount on this Money, make the furniture yourself. How to make doors for a sliding wardrobe and what is required to start assembling sliding wardrobe doors? Drawings and drawing of details of the future structure indicating where this or that fastening will be performed will significantly speed up the completion of the work.

Preparing parts

To save money, many people are interested in whether it is possible to do without the help of experienced furniture makers and how to make wardrobe doors with their own hands. First, the parts to be installed are prepared. After selecting the most relevant material (chipboard, MDF or natural wood), the purchase of accessories has been completed, you can get to work. You will need to create a reliable frame from pre-prepared parts:

  • two side walls;
  • lid;
  • bottom.

Shelves and storage systems will subsequently be installed inside the structure.

A sheet of selected material is cut using special equipment, which cuts out the described parts of the future cabinet with high accuracy. If there are no special tools for this, you can order cutting of the material from professionals. After cutting, the parts are processed and covered with end caps to make them more aesthetically pleasing. Next, we’ll tell you how to assemble the doors and get a full-fledged piece of furniture at a minimum cost.

Profiles may be different, so they must be measured individually

Assembly

When the details of the future structure are prepared, assembly can begin. How to assemble a cabinet without mistakes? For this purpose it is created detailed diagram assembly and installation of doors on the wardrobe. Then, using a drill, you need to create holes in the sides, roof and base. Its individual parts are connected into a single frame using special fasteners. To increase maximum level permissible load on the cabinet, the junction of the base and the top cover with the sides of the structure is reinforced with special metal corners. The back of the furniture is covered with a thin sheet of chipboard, and supports are attached to the base.

You will also need holes for pins in the side walls of the furniture. This will be required for subsequent installation of shelves inside the product. If necessary, storage systems for certain types of things are installed inside the structure: vertical crossbars with hangers, trouser racks, and the like. If the assembly stage is completed, we proceed to the most difficult part. It is the installation of doors that will be the most critical process in the entire work.

Installation of profiles and frames

If you have completed assembling the wardrobe doors, you can proceed to installing the profiles and frame of the structure along which the sliding panels will move. However prerequisite is to align the door leaf exactly at the level, otherwise problems will arise during subsequent operation of the sliding wardrobe, and the level of comfort for the user will be low.

After measuring the length of the cabinet from the inside, using a hacksaw, cut a profile of a similar size and fix it on the top and bottom lids using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws.

To prevent damage to the profiles, when organizing holes, experts recommend using any convenient support. For example, you can use a table or chair for this purpose. And the holes made should be carefully sanded using sanding paper. The holes should be arranged on the profile with a pitch of 50 mm; this rule should not be violated so that problems do not arise during the operation of the structure in the future.

To securely fix the lower profile, it is worth organizing similar holes for self-tapping screws, but there is no need to rush to attach the guide inside the structure. It is important to choose the right place for its attachment. It is shifted inside the cabinet by 20 mm, since the depth of the furniture will decrease by the width of the compartment doors. Sometimes it happens that the doors are installed too deep. This spoils the appearance of the furniture, reduces its aesthetic qualities and comfort.

You will also need to install clamps so that the doors stop at closed position and no gap formed with the sidewall. The stopper is installed in the groove of the lower rail. To install the lock in the required location, close the compartment doors tightly, after which a mark is made on the bottom rail of the center of the wheel. A stopper is inserted here, which can be easily moved with a flat screwdriver.

To install the mirror in the profile, a silicone seal is used

Door fastening

Next, we will describe in detail how to install a sliding wardrobe door with your own hands. Order step-by-step assembly doors and correctly selected tools are largely determined by the type of door being manufactured and the specifics of its fastening to the furniture body. This can be one of two models:

  • hanging;
  • rail

Hanging

Roller

Hanging

If you have decided to make hinged doors, then experts recommend starting to install doors on a wardrobe with your own hands by studying the specifics of working with such systems. The 2-door wardrobe with hanging panels has a special compartment mechanism, which is not mounted inside the structure, but is superimposed on the facade. It consists of two guides, but most high load falls precisely on the top rail. Hanging mount sliding systems allow you to veil the ends and roofs of the side facades from the eyes behind the doors. As a result, the design after installing the cabinet doors looks incredibly laconic, elegant, and beautiful.

Hanging door fixing

Rail

The description of the installation of rail structures with your own hands differs from the description of the stages for suspended ones. The peculiarity is that the rails are mounted inside the cabinet frame. In this case, it is worth hanging the bottom one slightly offset into the cabinet, since it will bear the highest load.

Rollers need to be hung on the canvas, with the help of which it will move on the rail. Next, the canvas must be very carefully inserted one by one into pre-installed guides. To do this, place the upper part of the door into the guides, and then install the lower part.

To check the doors for perfect vertical alignment, you should use a spirit level. If you do the work carefully, there will be no need for adjustments at a later time.

Experts insist that rail doors on a cabinet cannot be placed at an angle, as this can cause deformation of the profile. Whatever design is chosen, do not forget that limiters will be required. This part must be attached to the cabinet door.

The video provides instructions phased implementation work experienced craftsman, which will once again demonstrate how to install doors on a wardrobe. After looking at it, you will know exactly how to install a wardrobe door, and the instructions with photos will help make this process easier.

The sliding wardrobe is convenient, since the doors do not take up much space when open. It can generally be made without a frame - in a niche, from wall to wall. All that is needed in this case is to install the doors for the wardrobe, and then assemble the filling (or vice versa, this is not so important.

If we talk about strict restrictions on the size of doors for a wardrobe, then there are none. You can make any length and width. But there are recommended parameters determined based on operating experience:

Sash design

The wardrobe door leaf consists of profiles:

All this together looks like in the photo. The door material you choose is inserted into this frame, into the grooves. This can be glass, mirror, and other materials.

Separating profiles are optional. They are needed if you assemble the sashes from different materials Or you just like them better this way. The maximum thickness of the filling material is 10 mm, the minimum is 4 mm. Thinner ones - glass, plastic, mirror - are inserted through a sealing gasket.

In order for the sash to be able to move, rollers are installed on it - at the top and bottom. The lower rollers bear the entire weight of the door, and the upper rollers stabilize the vertical position of the leaf, preventing it from deviating.

The rollers are attached to the side profiles using special fasteners.

Guides for sliding doors

As you understand, the sash is not everything. Guides are needed along which these very doors will move. There are two of them - upper and lower. In appearance they differ significantly.

When installing the door, first insert it tightly into the upper guide, lift the sash all the way and place the lower rollers in the corresponding slot. The entire structure is shown in the following photo.

Size calculation

At self-assembly There are two options for sliding wardrobe doors. The first is to measure the opening, think about how many doors you want to have and contact a door manufacturing company with this information. Just make sure they sell the parts without paying for assembly. The manager will calculate everything for you necessary materials, will give the dimensions and announce the amount. It's simple. But you will have to purchase everything from this office, i.e. choose from what is available.

Doors

Calculate the width of the sashes so that when closed only one handle is visible, but at the same time it closes itself door leaf she shouldn't. For a sliding door with two leaves, you calculate it like this: measure the width of the opening, add the width of the profile and divide in half. This will be the width of the sash.

For example, the opening is 1600 mm, the width of the handle profile is 26 mm. We get 1600 mm + 23 mm / 2 = 811.5 mm. Please note that the width of the handle profile is taken arbitrarily. It can be different in shape and, naturally, in width. When making calculations, substitute the width of your chosen structure.

To calculate a tricuspid one, you will need to add twice the profile width and divide by 3.

Example: opening 2100 mm, handle width is the same - 26 mm. We count: 2100 mm + 2*26 mm / 3 = 717 mm.

Everything is easier with height. Subtract 40-45 mm from the height of the cabinet and obtain the required height of the sash, as well as the length of the side profiles. That's all about the dimensions of the sashes.

Filling

Since the filling is in a frame of profiles, we subtract twice the profile width from the total width of the sash. We do the same with the height - subtract the height of the lower and upper profile.

So, the width of our sash is 811.5 mm. The measured width of the handle profile is 18 mm. Since the handles are placed on both sides, we double this figure. We get 36 mm. Total filling width 811.5 mm - 36 mm = 775.5 mm.

We also calculate the height: let the initial one be 2350 mm, the width of the upper profile 12 mm, the lower one 48 mm. Total filling height 2350 mm - 12 mm - 48 mm = 2290 mm. This is if the filling is solid and it is laminated chipboard, which does not require a silicone seal. If the sash is a solid mirror or glass, you need to subtract another thickness from the found height sealing gum. It is 1 mm, but since it is put on around the perimeter, it takes up 2 mm in general - above and below. In this case, the filling height is 2290 mm - 2 mm = 2288 mm.

If the sash filling consists of fragments, the thickness of the connecting profile is also subtracted. It is also approximately 1 mm.

Profiles

The height of the vertical profiles of the frames is overall height doors The width of all horizontal ones is calculated depending on the width of the handle: from the width of the sash we subtract twice the width of the handle (there are two of them).

Let the handle width be 26 mm. We get the width of the vertical profiles: 811.5 mm - 26 mm*2 = 759.2 mm.

Photo report on the assembly

First, all profiles are cut exactly to the calculated dimensions. The accuracy must be perfect. The cut is strictly perpendicular, at 90°. Holes are drilled in the handle profiles for installing rollers and fasteners.

The holes are made through two diameters. The exact size depends on the dimensions of the purchased fastener, but basically there are two sizes: 4 mm and 6 mm, as well as 6 mm and 10 mm.

One such hole is made at the top, the center of which is located at a distance of 7 mm from the edge of the profile, at the bottom there are two holes - the first at a distance of 7 mm from the edge, the second at a distance of 42 mm from the profile cut.

During assembly, all parts of the filling are assembled first. First, if there is glass or a mirror, it is installed around the perimeter sealing rubber. It is simply put on the end of the part by pressing a finger. The seal is cut off along the edges and placed end to end, but without overlapping on the next side.

They glue on the back side of the mirrors protective film. You can use regular self-adhesive. This film will prevent fragments from scattering if the mirror breaks.

If the sash is composite, we assemble it using connecting profiles. The filling parts are simply inserted with force into the profile. Sometimes considerable effort may be required. You can tap the end with the back of your hand or use a rubber mallet for this.

Simply insert the filling parts into the grooves of the profile and tap on the end

When the sash is assembled, the corresponding profiles are installed at the top and bottom using the same principle.

Then it’s time to install the side handle profiles. Everything is the same: push the filling into the groove, make sure that it fits all the way along the entire length without distortion. When the frame is assembled, it is necessary to tighten it with fasteners. Let's start from the top. Take the fasteners and insert them into the previously drilled hole. If the distance was measured accurately, the screw fits into the groove of the upper cross member.

Tighten the connection using a hex wrench. Slightly not tightening it all the way, insert the upper rollers between the screw head and the profile jumper, then tighten the screw.

We repeat the same operation on the other side. Then we move down. Here the fasteners are installed in the upper hole. Just tighten it all the way. We repeat similarly on the other side.

Installing the lower roller - insert the plate into the profile

We press the spring, tucking the roller body inside. We insert a screw into the hole, trying to get into the socket, and tighten it with a hexagon. You may need it in a different size - slightly smaller than the others - since this screw is usually thinner and longer.

There is no need to tighten it all the way. So that it goes into the plate half a centimeter or so. Then, when installing the door and adjusting its travel, this screw adjusts the position of the sash - the angle is raised or lowered.

If you press the roller wheel, it will go into the housing, then return due to the elasticity of the spring. This simple mechanism ensures smooth movement of the sliding wardrobe door.

Having assembled all the sashes, we proceed to installing the guides. They must be located strictly one below the other, even without deviations of a millimeter. Use a plumb bob or laser level ().

First screw on the top guide. It is attached either to the ceiling or to the top of the cabinet. The distance from the shelves is at least 100 mm, otherwise the doors will touch shelves, things, and hangers.

We insert bumper springs into the grooves in the lower guide from the sides. They will limit the movement of the door. The number of springs is equal to the number of leaves; they are installed at both ends.

If laser level no, so as not to have to worry about plumb lines, first you can simply lay the bottom guide without fixing it yet. Then install one blade, placing its upper rollers at the top and installing the lower ones in the desired groove. This way the doors will connect the upper and lower guides.

By aligning the canvas strictly vertically, you will automatically align the lower guide. All that remains is to screw it on. Just be careful that the doors do not move.

The last thing left to do is to glue the Schlegel on the sides. This is a fleecy self-adhesive strip that softens the impact of the sash on the walls of the cabinet (or simply on the walls, if the cabinet is frameless).

The final touch is the Schlegel sticker

Here the wardrobe doors are installed and ready to go. You can watch the process again in the video.

Hung compartment doors

Hung compartment doors- these are the most inexpensive compartment doors. The simplest design of the suspension system is a chipboard panel lined with an edge. WITH inside For such a compartment door, rollers are fixed at the top and guide angles at the bottom.

A fairly wide range of fittings for hanging compartment doors is produced by a Polish company Valcomp.

Rice. 1. Hanging system compartment doors

Interesting example hanging doors coupe doors are barn doors, which we will look at in a separate article about American barn doors.

Compartment doors with overlay profile

To prevent bending of the chipboard sheet, they came up with the idea of “dressing” the doors of the wardrobe with a profile on the sides. The compartment doors became smoother, but heavier. Visually, the compartment door resembles modern frame systems.

compartment doors in this option They rest on rollers at the bottom, and the rollers themselves are made with bearings. As a result, the movement of the wardrobe doors has become easier. But the upper rollers began to serve only a supporting function. The upper and lower rollers are simply screwed to the chipboard from the inside.

But bad luck, if there was some kind of obstacle in the way of the compartment doors, the door would warp and it could jump out of the grooves of the lower track.

The mirrors were mounted on compartment doors using double-sided tape and glue. This added to the weight of the compartment door.

Compartment doors with frame profile

And here it is, the crown of evolution of coupe doors! Not only a vertical, but also a horizontal profile for compartment doors was invented. This significantly increased the strength of compartment doors against deflection.

Rollers on coupe doors began to move not only from side to side, but also up and down. The rollers now have small stopper antennae that prevent the roller from jumping out of the track if the door is skewed.

Profiles for compartment doors became more rigid and lighter. They began to be made from steel and aluminum.

The profile for compartment doors has become universal; it has become possible to use not only 10 mm thick chipboard, but also glass and mirrors as filling. But the rollers have now begun to hide inside the profile, so it is possible to make compartment doors double-sided and use them for dressing rooms and interior partitions.

Profiles for compartment doors are produced in various colors, including those decorated to resemble wood decors.

Currently, the most popular compartment doors are made of aluminum profile. The profile, mainly with minor differences, is produced by many companies with different trademarks, the first thing that comes to mind is Raum +, these are Komandor, Aristo, Senator, Versal.

Composition of aluminum profile system for compartment doors

The profile of compartment doors can be not only traditionally semicircular in cross-section, but also square. For example square profile is in the product line from Raumplus. The compartment door is assembled similarly to other models.

The simplest and cheap filling compartment doors are 10 mm thick chipboard or mirror.

Instead of chipboard, you can use inserts coated with natural materials rattan and bamboo. Read more about the design of compartment doors with bamboo panels in a separate article.

Combination various materials, horizontal and vertical dividers allows you to produce various options so called combined compartment doors.

Options for decorating wardrobe doors

The use of aluminum profiles for the manufacture of compartment doors allows for an unlimited number of options for decorating compartment doors. Almost every person has the opportunity to decorate a closet to their own taste, according to their ideas of beauty. However, financial opportunities also play an important role. There are both inexpensive ways design and available to a limited number of people.

Mirror in compartment doors

A mirror is the simplest and most common way to decorate sliding wardrobes. Thanks to the mirror, a person can evaluate his appearance from head to toe.

Large mirror can visually expand the room. Silver, bronze and graphite mirrors are usually used to decorate sliding wardrobes.

Frescoes for decorating compartment doors

Frescoes, intended for decorating sliding wardrobes, are canvases on which special composition the image is applied. Thanks to their unique composition, frescoes do not fade over time and withstand temperature changes and high humidity.

A sliding wardrobe decorated with a fresco will become a real decoration of the interior, becoming its dominant element.

Rice. 16. Frescoes on wardrobe doors

Subjects that are applied to compartment door inserts using frescoes can be of all kinds. I will give a few examples.

Leather and fur in the design of coupe doors

Exotic lovers can decorate their wardrobe with fur or leather. This is a fairly new direction in decorating cabinets. However, there is already a demand for such design.

Thanks to the alternation of leather and glass, you can create enough interesting compositions in the manufacture of combined compartment doors. As for fur, this design will create an atmosphere of real home comfort.

Decorative films in the design of compartment doors

Decorative films- this is the simplest and cheap way decorating wardrobes, although not always the cheapest. Thanks to the variety of colors and textures, you can decorate wardrobe doors in any style and implement interesting design solutions.

Oracal films allow you to make multi-colored inserts in compartment doors. The base for the film is 4 mm thick glass. The film is glued to the inside of the glass using a special solution.

Modern decorative films very resistant to mechanical stress, do not fade and do not lose their original appearance over time.

Using a plotter that cuts out a pattern from the film according to a program, you can create compartment doors with patterns.

Coplanar coupe door systems

You've probably seen a lot beautiful pictures from bourgeois sites that show large beautiful cabinets coupe. Moreover, if you look closely, you will see that the compartment doors are in the same plane, and do not overlap each other as in classic aluminum compartment door systems; it looks like a single facade.

These are called coplanar coupe door systems, the compartment doors are not framed. Such systems appeared quite recently; prominent representatives of such systems are Italian manufacturers Cinetto and Bertolucci.

The dimensions of one door in such a system can reach 1800 mm, and the weight is 60-70 kg, which is not achievable for aluminum frame systems.

Another very interesting development from Cinetto for overhead facades, monorail system. Moving facades to different sides, we can change the appearance of the wall, which is in the picture below.

We move the facades in the top and bottom rows from the center to the sides and the appearance of the wall changes, new sections are revealed and old ones are closed with doors, like in a children's game of tag.

The facades are installed one above the other, with minimal gaps. A door closer can be installed on each façade, making door movement smooth.

Another company from Italy Bortoluzzi Sistemi has developed a fundamentally new damper mechanism that allows compartment doors to slide smoothly and silently.

While the old mechanisms were based on rollers, the new systems from Bortoluzzi Sistemi use ball bearings.

Thanks to such changes, the system can easily move massive doors weighing up to 70 kg. And the damping mechanism makes the process of opening, moving and stopping the doors soft and silent.

Exclusive aluminum coupe door systems

There are many types of aluminum profiles for sliding wardrobe doors. In most cases, this is a familiar profile with open and closed handles. But there is also an exclusive wide profile, covered with natural or artificial veneer.

The width of the vertical profile is 55 mm, which exceeds standard width handles almost doubled. This width, covered with veneer, allows us to produce classic-looking wardrobes in an expensive price category.

With all its advantages, the design and assembly of compartment doors is no different from the usual version production of compartment doors.
