DIY overpass dimensions for passenger cars. Homemade overpass in the garage: how best to make it. Types of garage overpasses

I decided to make a portable and simple overpass with my own hands. A little time and our overpass is ready, I won’t describe much, so everything is almost clear from the photos.

For work we will need:

Welding machine - 1 piece
Bulgarian - 1 piece
Roulette - 1 piece
Square - 1 piece
Marker (preferably white, great for drawing on rusty corners)) - 1 pc.
Clamp - 2 pcs
Electrodes - 2kg
Cutting discs - 4 pcs
Metal corner 50x50
Metal corner 25x25
Fittings 10″

Well, let's dive deeper:

The base is 165 cm long, 50 cm wide and 45 cm high. It consists of two 165 cm corners and three 40 cm lintels.

We connect this whole thing strictly perpendicularly at the distance we need: two jumpers at the edges, they form a complete support spot, and the middle one is at a distance of 50 cm from the extreme one, so we get a support for the horizontal parking spot.

Next, we need to place 2 more corners, already 40 cm long, perpendicularly, we form a “stopper”, the border of the overpass, so that the car does not pass the “point of no return”. At the same time, we immediately mark the parallel of the first 30 centimeter supports for subsequent horizontal connections.

Then, using a corner 117 cm long, we make a slope (115 cm long + 2 cm overlap on the nickel)

The first (concept) overpass on one side is ready. I made it without sketches or drawings, so to speak, out of my head, supplementing, redoing and working on it as I went along. We make the second one the same way... And that’s it, our overpass is ready.

A garage overpass is a very popular device. Many car enthusiasts periodically carry out technical inspections and repairs of their personal vehicles.

If visual inspection of the body or some car components can be performed without an overpass, then diagnosing the condition of the bottom and the components located under it is very difficult. This article will tell you how a garage overpass is made.

Types of garage overpass structures

For high-quality and comfortable repair and maintenance of your car, you need to properly organize workplace, especially to ensure its safety for humans. For this purpose, a variety of types are built, tippers or other devices are purchased.

An inspection hole for car repairs is made in the garage itself or simply in an area that can be:

  • On a dacha area.
  • On a personal plot.

When constructing such a structure, in order to strengthen the earthen foundation, you need inner layer Cover the device with bricks or cover it with boards.

Advice: To make it easier for the driver to work, the descent into the pit should be laid out with steps and handrails should be attached.

A homemade overpass installed in the garage in the absence of an inspection hole also helps to improve the performance of work. Such designs may have different types, configurations and base.

An overpass, most often, is a special device that rises above the ground, serving for periodic inspection of the vehicle and, if necessary, repairs. The purpose of the device is the same as that of the inspection pit.

Homemade overpass- a necessary attribute of any garage. Very often there are circumstances when it is not possible to equip a pit.

This may be related:

  • With close proximity to groundwater.
  • Unfavorable soil characteristics.

In this case, making a car overpass will help you easily find a way out of your predicament.

Advantages of the design compared to conventional inspection hole, are:

  • Availability larger area for carrying out work.
  • Lots of light.
  • More comfortable.
  • No dampness.
  • There is no darkness.
  • The bridge for cars is not flooded by melt and groundwater.
  • When performing work there is no need to stay in the ground for a long time.

For a garage, you can use the following options for overpasses:

  • Portable.
  • Having the appearance of a viewing hole.
  • Made of brick.
  • Constructed from sleepers.

For the manufacture of structures the following is selected:

  • Wood.
  • Metal.

Tip: The main feature of a homemade overpass is the presence of a solid base, which allows you to minimize the likelihood of a car falling. To make it, you should only choose quality materials high strength.

The overpass in the garage can be located:

  • In the corner.
  • Near the wall. The front of such a structure should be blocked by a fence that will prevent the machine from rolling away.
  • The overpass can be a kind of continuation of the unhindered movement of the car from the parapet, which requires increasing its length.

Features of overpasses for gates

Based on the listed advantages, car enthusiasts often usually inspection pits they prefer to use a homemade overpass, which allows them to conveniently solve many problems and eliminate breakdowns that have arisen in the car.

Structures can be made with bases of varying complexity:

  • Welded products require special equipment and welding skills.
  • A simpler device is called a “ladder”, which consists of two small ladders made of wood. The car drives its wheels onto them, and the part needed for inspection rises to a certain height. On such a trestle it is possible to carry out the required volume repair work.

The construction is not so difficult to do on your own. To do this, you will need to prepare boards approximately 50 millimeters thick and square bars 100 millimeters long on each side.

The optimal height of such devices is 15 centimeters, which is enough to carry out repair work in in full. The portable overpass allows all driver manipulations to be completely safe.

After driving onto the created plane, the car is located in a horizontal position, which ensures the stability of such a structure.

Advice: When on an overpass, the driver needs to be on the safe side: put the car on the handbrake, and put any stop under the wheels that will impede movement.

How to make a flyover from various materials

For car owners in rural areas or spending a lot of time on suitable for a dacha design option from brickwork on cement mortar. The design has the form of a trapezoid with a width equal to the distance between the wheels of the car.

Disadvantages of such an overpass:

  • We need a site for its construction.
  • Over time, the brick will begin to deteriorate.
  • To free the site, the structure will need to be dismantled, which will require significant effort and time from the owner.

Overpass made of railway sleepers

The overpass can be assembled from railway sleepers.

In this case, two bases are laid out by laying sleepers on top of each other in the form of a slide, as shown in the photo. Tracks for driving are laid across.

To ensure the reliability of the structure, it is fastened with staples.

Disadvantages of such an overpass:

  • Not everyone has the required supply of sleepers.
  • The sleepers are quite heavy, which makes it impossible for one person to assemble and disassemble such a structure.
  • After the completion of the repair work, you will need a lot of space to store sleepers.

When constructing this structure on your site, they can be left under open air. Wooden sleepers are usually impregnated with creosote, which protects the wood from rotting.

Metal overpasses are more popular.

How to make a metal overpass

The metal overpass is universal. It can also be used in city garages.

To make the design you will need:

  • Rolled metal.
  • Welding machine.
  • Any fittings.
  • Grinder with a set of cutting wheels.
  • Hardware.
  • Metal paint

If desired, the overpass can be made collapsible, which will allow it to be quickly assembled if necessary.

The instructions are as follows:

  • Four base stands are assembled, approximately 50 centimeters high. To ensure stability, the sides should be assembled in the form of a trapezoid and connected to them of the same length with crossbars from an equal angle 63x5. Bridges can be made from a 40x4 corner and reinforcement with a diameter of 12 millimeters. The bridges are an ordinary metal ladder.
  • Two bridges for driving a car and two bridges for placing a car during repairs are made. The minimum length of the latter is calculated by measuring the distance between the centers of the car's wheels and adding a small allowance to it.
  • All elements are bolted together, which allows you to quickly assemble or disassemble the structure.

If there is very little space in the garage, you can make a mini-overpass that allows you to partially lift the car, and its price is minimal. To make the most basic version of a mini-overpass, you can use wood or metal.

To work you will need:

  • Board 50 millimeters thick.
  • Wooden slats with a cross section of 100x100 millimeters. From sizes cross section depends on how high the car is raised.

The order of assembly of the structure:

  • A block is fixed on the top of the board, which acts as a restriction on the movement of the wheels.
  • On the other side two are attached wooden bars: one a little further from the middle, the other from the edge of the board.

At least two of these devices are needed, and four elements are needed to lift the entire car off the ground. The operating principle of the overpass is as follows.

When installing the structure under a car wheel, it will rest on the ground at two points:

  • The front part of the board and a block fixed closer to the middle.
  • After the car wheel hits the board, the center of gravity will shift closer to the end of the board, its front edge will rise, and the rear part will lower.
  • Making bars of the same cross-section will allow the board to take a horizontal position.

Tip: The length of the board should be chosen so that it does not hit the bottom of the car.

  • The wheels remaining on the ground are fixed with special stop blocks.

The video shows in detail what types of overpasses there are and how to make them.

Almost every motorist needs an inspection hole. With its help, you can do a routine inspection of the car and its partial renovation. Such a structure is especially important if there are no service stations nearby.

Why is the structure needed?

As already mentioned, if you have a car, then there may be certain problems with the mechanisms. Not all breakdowns can be fixed right in the garage. Sometimes you have to climb under the car. Naturally, doing repairs lying down is not very convenient. This is precisely why the overpass was invented.

It is not difficult to make such a structure with your own hands. You just need to decide on the design and assemble everything necessary materials. It should be noted that to build the structure you can use everything that is on your farm. For example, an overpass for car repairs can be made of metal stairs (above-ground version), bricks, or simply dug in the form of a hole (underground version).

What tools might you need?

It is quite simple to construct such a structure. You must first draw a diagram on paper, calculate its dimensions, and also select the necessary tool:

  1. Welding (if a metal version is built).
  2. Grinder (for cutting materials).
  3. Shovel (if you want to make a hole or fix overhead posts).
  4. Brick and sleepers.
  5. Cement (to prevent the product from “driving”, it should be fixed concrete mortar).

From this list you choose what you will need depending on the materials.

How to make the simplest design option?

It is a structure on which a car can drive only with its rear wheels or only with its front wheels. This type of overpass for a car consists of identical structures that can be made of metal or wood. Please note that the width of such products should not be less than 40 cm. Otherwise, they may be unstable or too narrow.

This structure can be welded from corners. In this case, the cross-section of the elements is about 2.5 cm. To prevent the car from sliding off the overpass, limiters must be fixed on the racks. Their height is at least 7 cm. After everything welding work will be completed, sharp corners must be removed using a grinder. In order for the product to last as long as possible, it must be coated with a special anti-corrosion compound or painted. Please note that one element of such a structure will have quite a lot of weight.

How to make a structure from stairs?

A similar overpass can also be done quite quickly with your own hands. It is a more advanced option than the previous one. To work you will need two metal stairs at least 3 meters long, welding machine and corners.

First you need to treat all components with an anti-corrosion compound. Next, you need to weld 4 vertical supports to the edges of the stairs, on which they will stand (like benches). Their length should be sufficient so that it can be partially dug into the ground. Naturally, in this case it is better to choose corners or pipes. In any case, these elements must be strong enough to support the weight of the car.

After the main structure is assembled, it is necessary to fix it in the garage. Place the future overpass so that it is convenient for you to drive onto it. The posts in the ground must be fixed with concrete mortar. In order for the car to drive onto the structure, 4 more corners (on both sides) need to be welded to the stairs at an angle. It is better to unite them together with crossbars.

Features of the inspection pit arrangement

The construction of an overpass of this type is the most common. However, it is possible under one condition: you have a lot free space. Such an inspection hole must have a depth of at least 1 meter. This parameter depends on the height of the person who will be repairing or inspecting the car. To prevent the earth from crumbling inside, it is better to cover the walls of the structure with boards. To make it convenient to go down into the hole, you need to either dig steps or install a ladder. Please note that the steps should be equipped with anti-slip pads.

Please note that the edges of such an overpass should be slightly above ground level. The length of the pit must correspond to the size of the machine. In this case, after driving in, the car should not block the descent stairs. As for the width of the ditch, it is about 1 meter. Safety flanges must be added to this distance.

As you can see, a do-it-yourself overpass can be built quite quickly. You just need to draw a diagram in advance and select materials.

Arrangement of the overpass

Naturally, the workplace must be arranged accordingly. For example, there should be a workbench nearby with all necessary tools. Everything you need for repairs should be within arm's reach.

You will also need to arrange good lighting. It is better to use LED or fluorescent lamps. Inside the inspection pit, you can make additional shelves on which tools will be placed. Please note that they must be secured as well as possible, and at a level so that if any products fall, they cannot harm you.

The inside of the pit can be lined with bricks. It's better to build a foundation. The surface on which the car will stand must also be secured as much as possible. It is better to install it on pipes dug deep into the ground.

If you need a trestle, you can make it yourself in just one day.

If you don’t have an inspection hole for your car, you can replace it with a flyover you made yourself in the garage or at your dacha. To do this you will need a couple of sleepers and a few thick boards or some scrap metal, a welding machine and a grinder. Of course, a pit in a garage is more convenient, but for various reasons not every garage can be equipped with one. The proximity of underground communications or groundwater, and then, if you want to repair your personal car, the solution for you will be to build an overpass with your own hands.

Types of overpasses

Depending on the size, there are two types of overpasses for cars:

  1. For access to one vehicle axle.
  2. For entry of the entire car.

Mini overpass the first category is usually collapsible and requires small quantity material to make it yourself. It is mobile, but not as convenient for do-it-yourself car repairs as a full-size one. The inconvenience of a mini overpass is that due to its small height Carrying out car repairs with your own hands with its help is far from being possible at full height.

There are two types of devices that provide access to both the front and rear of the machine:

  • Installed on level ground. Entry to their repair site takes place at best case scenario at an angle of about 30° to the horizontal.
  • Located on a slope. Entry to them occurs without climbing up (horizontally).

For those who want to make a mini overpass for car repairs with their own hands, we present the simplest design, which does not require drawings to repeat.

So, to make the simplest mini overpass for a car with your own hands, you need to lay two pairs of sleepers in pairs with their side surfaces facing each other and connect the sleepers of each pair to each other using steel brackets. Turn them over with the staples facing down and cut one end of each pair at an angle of about 30° to the horizontal for ease of entry. Lay the pairs parallel to each other, in accordance with the track width of your car, with the cut ends facing the same direction. The portable mini overpass is ready. The height of such a structure is adjusted by placing scraps of boards of suitable thickness under the rectangular ends of the sleepers. To prevent the car from rolling off the overpass, make shoes from scraps of boards and place them under the wheels during repairs. In order not to fall from the structure when entering it, attach two pieces of board to the ends of the sleepers so that they stick out slightly upward.

To work under the car on such an overpass, be sure to get a piece of thick felt or at least an old cotton blanket. Don't leave your health on the concrete floor.

To those who say that the car can be raised to such a height, I will object that if you put thick blocks under it, then not every jack can lift it that much, and secondly, it’s much safer than using a jack.

Full size design

For those who do not want to endure the inconvenience of repairing their car, we suggest making a full-size version with your own hands. It will be more convenient for you to drive onto it if you build it on a slope. And it will take less boards. So it makes sense to find a place for her on the slope. Of course, it is better to make the overpass from metal: it is stronger, does not absorb oil and does not rust as quickly as wood rots. But if you have wood in stock, then the choice of material is obvious; don’t buy rental material.

Metal installation

Two can be used as supports steel pipes with a diameter of at least 150 mm. They should be buried in the ground below its freezing level, otherwise the height of the overpass with the onset of winter will increase and decrease in the spring. After installing the supports, the pits should be compacted with broken bricks, or better yet, concreted. If the depth of soil freezing in your area is small, bury the supports into the ground at least a meter. The height of the supports above the ground depends on your height, but should not be lower than 1.5 meters.

They should be installed at a distance of about 5 meters from the intended entrance to the overpass, and at a distance from each other equal to the track of your car. Place a piece of channel about 150 mm wide on top of the supports, edges down; its length should be 50 cm greater than the track width of your car. Weld the channel to the supports. After this, for lateral stability of the structure, connect the supports crosswise with two corners. Place four corners with ribs of at least 7.5 cm, about 5 m long, in pairs parallel with the ribs facing each other, and fill the space between each pair with pieces of reinforcement 50 cm long and weld them to each, maintaining a right angle. Place the resulting ladders so that one side of each is on the edge of the channel, and the other on the ground. Check their horizontalness using a level. And also set the width between the centers of the edges lying on the ground, which should be equal to the track of your car. Weld them to the channel, and to them stops to prevent falling vehicle, and congratulations, you have welded a steel overpass with your own hands.

Features of a wooden structure

  • Instead of a pipe, two pieces of timber with a cross-section of at least 15 × 15 cm are used as supports.
  • Parts of supports dug into the ground must be impregnated with creosote or at least mining for durability.
  • Each ladder should be assembled from two boards 5 cm thick, one of them 10 to 15 cm wide should be placed on its edge. Place the other one, about 40 cm wide, flat on top and nail it to the first one with nails or screw it with screws.
  • In each beam it is necessary to make one cut 5 cm wide and deep in accordance with the width of the boards placed on edge. The cuts are made in order to insert the lower boards of the ladders into them. The crossbar should be attached to the supports not from the top at the ends, but from the front, just below the ladder board coming out of the cut.
  • The supports can be made by screwing two pieces of block wood onto the supports with self-tapping screws, so that they stick out above the ladders.
  • To reduce the likelihood of wheels slipping from the edges of the ramps, it is advisable to make ribs. One option is to attach a board about 2 cm thick and 10 cm wide to the end of the top board of the ladder. It is better to fasten it with self-tapping screws with flat heads 50 mm long.
  • Below the crossbar, for lateral stability of the structure, the supports must be fastened together crosswise with two boards.

The car periodically requires inspection of the chassis. An overpass is used for this. The design is used at maintenance points. If the car owner does not want to spend money on the work of auto repairmen, he can inspect the car himself by raising it above the ground on an overpass. This is an alternative way to the inspection hole to gain access to the bottom. Assembling the overpass yourself will save money.

Main types

Based on the type of construction, there are two types of overpasses for cars:

  1. Full-size ones allow you to repair a machine that is completely raised above ground level by 1 meter. They are bulky and require a lot of space. Suitable for both passenger cars and trucks.
  2. Mini overpass. It consists of two small, independent from each other, beveled on one side of the podium. The auto overpass allows you to lift the car from the front or rear wheels. Used for partial inspection of the bottom. The disadvantage of this design was the need for the driver to have pinpoint precision when driving on it.

Stationary

Full-size overpasses are of the stationary type. They are installed along highways, on roadsides, and at service stations. The platform is raised high above the ground and allows for a detailed inspection of the car from the bottom and for carrying out repair work. Designed to support the weight of cars and trucks.

The strongest and most durable structure is made of metal. To create an observation deck, brick, wood, pipes and channel are used.

Advice! If the garage is built for 2 cars, but there is only one there, then the free space can be allocated for your own overpass.

Collapsible

The collapsible overpass has smaller dimensions. It fits easily in the garage and, if necessary, is quickly assembled. Designed for inspection of a passenger car.

The design includes:

  • 4 stands for supports;
  • 2 pairs of platforms with a stopper to prevent the car from rolling away;
  • 2 pairs of horizontal ramps for inclined access;
  • several stiffening ribs for fixing parts relative to each other.

They are built from metal. The thicker and more durable the material chosen, the longer the structure will last.

General requirements

Making an overpass is not difficult process, but you need to remember a few nuances:

  1. The height of the full-size version is up to 1 meter, and the mini version allows you to raise the car by 0.3-0.7 meters.
  2. The width of the structures is determined by the width of the car. To make it easy to access, the ramps and platforms are made 0.4 meters wide. These dimensions are sufficient for most wheels.
  3. The safety margin determines the service life. In the mini model it is not so critical, and when building a stationary overpass they do not skimp on materials.

The overpass, assembled independently, should fit in ordinary garages. When creating a drawing, take into account how much free space there is to store it.

Stages of preparatory work

It is not difficult to carry out the work yourself, from the design stage to the final assembly. To do this, you need to decide on the type of design that you prefer and available material, make a drawing, calculate the dimensions and number of parts, make an estimate for the purchase of materials, rental of equipment.

Calculation of dimensions and drawing up drawings

Start creating a drawing by selecting the type (stationary or portable) and material. Each person will have their own preferred shape of the product. General dimensions:

  • height – up to 1 meter;
  • width – about 0.4 meters;
  • lifting length – about 1 meter;
  • the length of the flat platform is from 0.3 meters.

An overpass is a pair of identical structures. On the side of the diagram, its shape resembles a rectangular trapezoid. A pair of slides can be additionally fixed to each other to avoid displacement while the machine is being lifted onto it.

Preparation of materials and tools

Depending on the material, tools are selected for the overpass. A structure made of sleepers or metal is assembled using:

  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarians;
  • bolts, nuts.

The main material is reinforcement and a 40 mm corner. The finished structure is coated with anti-corrosion paint on top.

A wooden overpass is created from:

  • wooden blocks with a square cross-section with a side of 0.2 meters;
  • wooden blocks or boards;
  • nails, screws;
  • saws;
  • screwdrivers.

DIY metal structure

The most popular is a mini overpass made of metal. This product has a number of advantages:

  • easy to move;
  • ease of assembly - does not require special skills;
  • reliability and durability.

Although a do-it-yourself overpass can last for decades, over time any structure wears out. If you properly care for it and treat it against rust, its service life will increase significantly.

Welding of the structure proceeds as follows:

  • a corner is cut and two rectangular trapezoids are assembled;
  • connect them together with a corner;
  • using scraps and remnants of the corner on the sides, additional stiffening ribs are formed;
  • the reinforcement is cut and welded onto the upper base and inclined plane;
  • cleaned with a wire brush and painted with metal paint.

The procedure is repeated for the second part of the trestle pair. You can make a limiting side on the upper platform to prevent the car from passing further. It is convenient to store it vertically.

Instructions for making a wooden mini trestle

Wooden construction is characterized by low cost of materials. The advantages also include:

  • simplicity of design. It does not require special tools and equipment; it can be made using available materials;
  • the mobile overpass has a relatively light weight;
  • mobility - easy to set up and remove.

The disadvantages include a small margin of safety. Over time, the timber overpass will rot and be undermined by insects. Special treatment will help increase service life.

There are two types of portable wooden overpass:

  1. One piece. Take a beam with a cross-sectional side of at least 0.2 meters. Connect it with nails to another cut. A bevel is cut off from one edge. The height of such an overpass is small, but it is lightweight and can be stored in the trunk of a car.
  2. Stepped. It is created from blocks and 50 mm boards. The pads are cut into pieces. Depending on the height, some are cut off from one edge. The structure is assembled in layers: a board, on it, with a certain step, several blocks are nailed, and again the board. Each tier is shorter than the previous one. Stops at the required height. A motion limiter block must be placed on top. The smaller the angle of inclination, the easier it is for the car to drive. But this lengthens the overpass and makes it heavier.

Technology for creating a brick structure

A type of stationary structure is a brick product. For construction it is necessary to allocate a plot of land. A homemade overpass is no different in shape from metal or wood. All parts are built from brick.

The construction method involves creating classic brickwork with cement mortar. The advantage of this automotive alternative to the inspection pit is its strength. It can withstand the weight of even a truck.

The disadvantages include:

  • the need to allocate a sufficiently large plot of land for it;
  • installation, as well as dismantling, requires a lot of time;
  • Over time, the masonry collapses and requires its hollow demolition.

Such a structure is more suitable for garages in villages and outside the city, where there is a lot of free space. The brick is chosen to be as durable as possible. Construction works It is better to spend in the warm season.

Most car enthusiasts prefer to repair and customize their vehicles themselves: for some it is a way to save money, and for others it is a hobby. But not all garages are equipped with an inspection hole, and climbing under the hood just like that is too inconvenient, and even dangerous.

In such situations, a flyover can be a lifesaver, which you can make in the garage with your own hands. Next, we will consider the types of structures and tell you how to independently build an overpass from different materials.

Types of garage overpasses

If there is no inspection hole, but you need to crawl under the car, an overpass in the garage becomes a necessity. A flyover is a device that allows you to lift a machine for comfortable repair work.

There are two types in total:

  1. Stationary.
    Such an overpass can usually be seen on the territory of auto repair shops. It is a large iron structure capable of lifting a car to a height of about a meter above ground level. It’s easy to replicate in the garage, the only thing is that it requires a lot of space.
  2. Mini overpass.
    This type is suitable for owners of small garages. Due to their popularity, they have many variations of the device: one-sided pyramid, rectangular trapezoid, crossover and “rocking” based on sleepers. They are quite easy to build, and an additional advantage is the ability to choose a design that best suits your needs.

Features of garage overpasses

The design also has a number of characteristics that make working with it more comfortable:

  • good lighting of the workspace;
  • increasing the working space area;
  • you don’t have to get extra dirty in the ground and interact with raw materials;
  • the structure is not flooded by groundwater or melt water.

A garage overpass can be made from any available materials, be it brick, sleepers, wood or metal. Most lifts can be stored in garages and taken out as needed, which eliminates the need to allocate a separate space for them in the yard.

Homemade auto overpasses also have some disadvantages:

  1. You need to be careful when driving; careless movements can cause deformation of car parts.
  2. The overpass must be on a flat surface so that it does not wobble or move apart.

It was already said earlier that you can make a car lift with your own hands.

To do this, you should take into account some nuances:

  • height full-size overpass- 1 meter, this is enough for comfortable repair work;
  • the height of the mini-overpass should not exceed 0.5 meters due to the operating characteristics of the structure;
  • the width of the structure depends on the dimensions of the machine itself, but when creating the structure, allowances should be made so that the machine can drive in unhindered;
  • mini-overpasses can only be used for handling passenger cars. And stationary structures are obviously designed to be more durable in order to avoid deformation and to carry out work with larger vehicles.

Most motorists preferred mini-overpasses made of wood, sleepers or metal. Learn more about each of the systems used to partially lift the vehicle.

The structure is created by folding sleepers in the shape of a slide, and the tracks for driving a car are laid across. To ensure the reliability of the structure, all its parts are fastened with staples.

But this type homemade devices there are disadvantages:

  • sleepers weigh a lot, and therefore it will not be possible to assemble and disassemble the lift yourself;
  • requires a lot of storage space;
  • a large amount of material is required.

Wooden overpass

If there is very little space in the garage, you can make a mini-overpass that will only partially lift the car. If desired, it can be made from wood. This is also an economical type of structure for lifting a car.

To create it you will need:

  1. The boards are 5 centimeters thick.
  2. Wooden slats with a section of 10x10 centimeters. It is worth noting that the height to which the car will rise depends on the cross section.

The assembly principle is quite simple. A beam is attached to the top of the board, which will then act as a limiter for the wheels. WITH reverse side two beams are attached: one closer to the limiter, the second to the other edge. Each part requires two pieces.

This system works as follows. A board with a limiter rests under the car wheels with its free edge. The part itself rests on the beam, which is fixed on that side. When the car starts, the wheels will shift the center of gravity and the edge with the limiter will fall onto the second beam.

Metal garage structures are even more popular than overpasses made of wood. This is due to their versatility, because such buildings are convenient to use in garages of any size.

For this design you will need:

  • welding machine;
  • grinder and circles for it
  • fittings;
  • rolled metal;
  • hardware;
  • paint for metal.

It is better to make the structure prefabricated and disassembled, this will save space in the room. The principle of making a mini-overpass from metal is simple. First you need to make four stands for the base, approximately 50 centimeters high.

For stability, the legs are welded in the form of a trapezoid - they need to be connected by beams from an equal angle corner measuring 63x5 centimeters. The access bridges are made in the form of a ladder. For this, corners measuring 40x4 centimeters and reinforcement with a diameter of 12 millimeters are used.

Making a garage overpass with your own hands is quite simple. Thanks to the variety of designs, you can acquire such a device within a modest budget, without losing the quality to expensive designs.

To carry out high-quality and comfortable repairs and maintenance of your car, it is necessary to properly organize the workplace, especially to ensure its safety for people. For this purpose, a variety of inspection pits are constructed, tippers or other devices are purchased.

An inspection hole for car repairs is made in the garage itself or simply in an area that can be:

  • On a dacha area.
  • On a personal plot.

When constructing such a structure, in order to strengthen the earthen base, you need to cover the inner layer of the device with bricks or sheath it with boards.

Advice: To make it easier for the driver to work, the descent into the pit should be laid out with steps and handrails should be attached.

A homemade overpass installed in the garage in the absence of an inspection hole also helps to improve the performance of work. Such structures can have different types, configurations and bases.

An overpass, most often, is a special device that rises above the ground, serving for periodic inspection of the vehicle and, if necessary, repairs. The purpose of the device is the same as that of the inspection pit.

A homemade overpass is a necessary attribute of any garage. Very often there are circumstances when it is not possible to equip a pit.

This may be related:

  • With close proximity to groundwater.
  • Unfavorable soil characteristics.

In this case, making a car overpass will help you easily find a way out of your predicament.

The advantages of the design, compared to a conventional inspection hole, are:

  • Availability of a larger area for work.

Tip: The main feature of a homemade overpass is the presence of a solid base, which allows you to minimize the likelihood of a car falling. For its manufacture, you should choose only high-quality materials of high strength.

Based on the listed advantages, car enthusiasts often prefer to use a homemade overpass over conventional inspection pits, which allows them to conveniently solve many problems and repair breakdowns that have occurred in the car.

Structures can be made with bases of varying complexity:

  • Welded products require special equipment and welding skills.
  • A simpler device is called a “ladder”, which consists of two small ladders made of wood. The car drives its wheels onto them, and the part needed for inspection rises to a certain height. On such an overpass it is possible to carry out the necessary amount of repair work.

The construction is not so difficult to do on your own. To do this, you will need to prepare boards approximately 50 millimeters thick and square bars 100 millimeters long on each side.

The optimal height of such devices is 15 centimeters, which is enough to complete repair work in full.

For car owners in rural areas or who spend a lot of time at the dacha, a construction option made of brickwork with cement mortar is suitable.

When constructing this structure on your site, they can be left in the open air.

The lifting height of the vehicle depends on the cross-sectional dimensions.

The order of assembly of the structure:

  • A block is fixed on the top of the board, which acts as a restriction on the movement of the wheels.
  • On the other side, two wooden blocks are attached: one a little further from the middle, the other from the edge of the board.
