DIY picnic table and chairs. DIY folding table - drawings and instructions with photos. From words to deeds

Folding tables are often found in everyday life. They have found application inside buildings and on land plots. Conventional factory products perform only a direct set of functions. Modern materials and assembly techniques include decorative aspects. Stamps mass production They produce beautiful transforming models with a book structure, a complex motor mechanism and high-quality coating. It can be difficult to achieve the same parameters on your own. But individual attempts usually end in the creation of exclusive furniture, unlike anything from mass production. Options for assembling and decorating a folding table with your own hands include classic as well as original design solutions in a modern manner. Calculations, accumulated experience and step-by-step instructions will help you achieve an exact match.

Features of folding tables

Tables with folding and unfolding functions save space and add options for using the room. The above qualities are enough to make the application justified from all points of view. An additional nice feature is that self-assembly is not something complicated, and the finished product is transformed in just two or three movements. A high-quality factory mechanism will cost a large sum, and folding options with manual control practically do not differ in price from ordinary furniture. One of the options on how to proceed is to make a folding table yourself. You will be able to save the money for something else, more complex in terms of self-execution. Folding structures are characterized by the presence of a high-strength frame designed for repeated folding. Models with glass countertops are made of durable materials.

The benefits of making it yourself

Some advantages independent work obvious. The products are unique in their kind. Moreover, the design can be thought through to the smallest detail to get the perfect product in all aspects at once. For lovers self made you will be able to realize your potential, learn something new, or make another piece of furniture while maintaining some common features between them. Not last place Among the advantages is the ability to control the manufacturing process, namely the quality and other features of the model. The master will constantly have access to information about the features of the place or room for which the table is intended. As a result, both appearance and useful characteristics will turn out to be better than the options offered by the market. As for monetary benefits, homemade tables have an advantage here too.

Among the disadvantages, the following nuances are noted:

  1. Manufacturing will take much longer than purchasing.
  2. There is a good chance that the product will break.
  3. You will have to first learn some of the nuances of carpentry.

Material selection

More convenient option there is nothing better than a tree. Among the disadvantages are the high cost and the problem of compatibility with certain types of interior. Laminated chipboard often becomes a material for self-made. Finished products acquire compact dimensions. Chipboards can withstand high humidity and it is this quality that has turned them into good decision For kitchen premises. Table legs are often made of metal, despite the fact that solid structures in most cases look better than options with metal inclusions. The reason is the low strength of the wooden legs. In addition, installing wheels on profile pipe will take less effort. Sheets of plywood are often used in clamshell models. The structures will be given a presentable appearance polypropylene pipes. These can be assembled using several methods, including gluing or welding.

Required Tools

You will need a lot of fasteners. Including self-tapping screws 20x4 and 16x3 mm, M4 screws, furniture locks, telescopic guides of approximately 500 mm and aluminum corners 50x50 mm. The legs may require 4 thick metal tubes - 710 mm in diameter. For installation work use hot melt adhesive, applied to PVC edges, plastic or wood slabs. During work, protect your hands with household gloves. Among the auxiliary devices you will also need a marker, a long ruler, a thick pencil, a tape measure and a building level. A heat gun and a hair dryer will ensure the reliability of the glue connection. Chipboard sheets are cut with clamps. For cutting, you may also need a small-tooth file, a jigsaw, a circular saw and a router. A screwdriver is used to work with hardware. The holes are made with a drill using 4.2 mm drill bits.

Master classes on making a folding table

The following options are in greatest demand:

  • table-bed;
  • table-bench;
  • transformer;
  • table-rack;
  • book design;
  • under a suitcase;
  • rotary option.

A common feature of all step-by-step master classes is the identification of the main groups of parts. In most cases, you will need a box, legs and a tabletop, and they are assembled from sheets, boards, beams, wooden or metal fastenings. The basics of interior design are demanding on the use of hardware. It is advisable to use decorative options with small flat caps, make special recesses for them and adhere to the hidden fastening method. You can assemble a high-quality folding table quickly and the first time after drawing up a detailed drawing and making test pieces. Using a heat gun and construction hair dryer will have a positive effect on the aesthetics of the joints. Folding tables can be raised up, folded in height or in parts towards the center, adjusted with springs, and intended for massage or playing ping-pong.

Deciding on design and construction

The oval shape is considered the most ergonomic: due to its smoothness, compactness and at the same time good spaciousness. This is a kind of transitional option between rectangular and round designs. The semicircular table looks beautiful against the wall. It is used as an element original design or cozy atmosphere with classical motifs. Small square version ideal for the role of a transforming table with rising sections. Small folding tables are useful in small country houses and dachas, cramped apartments. They are easy to transport. If none of the designs are to your taste, then the choice should be simple furniture with enough space for family members and 2-3 guests. Folding tables are still not bulky and are most often designed in the style of high-tech or constructivism.

Transformer

Manufacturing begins with the choice of mechanism. Smooth opening and closing is ensured by gas lift and springs. They are usually used separately. The second option is preferable for those who are assembling any folding structure for the first time. Hidden springs will not spoil the appearance. Useful for calculating materials computer programs. After choosing raw materials, for example, chipboard, as well as drawing, you will need cutting. It is better to order it from professionals, but it is better to do a detailed drawing personally or together with them. If you wish, you can also cut it yourself. At the same time, you should not deviate from the recommended tabletop thickness. After processing the raw materials, the elements are folded to ensure that the dimensions and calculations are correct. The frame of the transforming table is assembled using special drills and confirmations. The springs are first inserted into the base, and then the mechanism. If the material is heavy, then through connections will be needed.

The markings should be applied with a sticker so that the lines are large and clear.

This is the name for wall-mounted folding tables and structures attached to the window sill. The tabletop is cut out with a thickness of 20-30 mm. Exceeding these limits will lead to weakening or significant weighting of the structure. The length is selected in a harmonious relationship with the height and width (depth). The first and last parameters are calculated based on functionality, because a bulky design will interfere with the normal operation of the room. The legs are formed strong and stable, sufficient to hold the mass of the dishes and the entire structure. The reliability of the connections is increased by mutual ties for fastening the legs. Tables placed above the radiator are equipped with holes to prevent the room windows from fogging up. And in this case, it is undesirable to use chipboard; it is better to go with plywood or MDF. Triangular support parts are used for medium and short tables.

In cramped rooms, space optimization comes first. A table that turns into a bed has disadvantages - you should remember that you won’t be able to lie down throughout the day. For daytime rest you will need a spare seat. The final design will look like a table, but there will also be room for bedside tables, cabinets and shelving. The sofa table is made with a bed, a box and a lifting mechanism. The product is assembled with a built-in or separate box, depending on the design. The structure is usually mounted on the wall. The best material particle boards will be used for furniture. The boxes are assembled from bars with a cross-section of 5×5 cm, external supports are taken 14-15 cm high. Side decorative elements formed from inch boards with a one and a half centimeter layer of wood. The reliability of the structure will be given by the slope between the ends of the legs. Removable bases are made using bar or piano hinges.

The function of the swing-out configuration is to increase the size of the tabletop. The task is made easier by the fact that the use of fasteners for rotation (for example, like a TV) is not necessary if the furniture will be unfolded periodically. Materials required laminated chipboard 2.5 cm thick. The optimal dimensions of the tabletop are 77x50 cm. For a false tabletop you will need a fragment of 67x40 cm. Then prepare the legs and frames, confirmations and corners. Fastening is organized using card loops and 4-6 dowels. The false tabletop is installed on top, after which the corners are fixed with furniture corners, and ideally with confirmations. In the central part of the turn, a closed hole is made for a steel dowel or a mechanism is simply mounted. After this, the lower part of the tabletop is attached to the system, and if a dowel is used, then its remaining half is covered with a hole made in the tabletop.

To assemble the product, you need to understand only basic things:

  • drawings;
  • making templates;
  • features of fasteners.

The design has gained popularity due to its compact folded size, quick movement and easy transformation. Book tables weigh relatively little and will be useful in any living rooms. Assembling the entire product will take no more than 2-3 hours, since the structure of the structure is simple and includes legs and a tabletop of 3 elements. The base is assembled from two moving and one static planes, that is, according to the tabletop itself. The design has a small variety of shapes. A person has to choose between legs and wheels for the sidewalls, and the configuration of the latter - between frame and solid. It is better to cut the edges of the tabletop rounded. However, the central part of the tabletop is sometimes made large, with space for chairs or shelves for bottles. Some versions of “books” function without central element. But at the same time, all varieties can cope with the role of a dining table.

The first step is to assemble a box, in which the mechanism is then hidden. The length of the base is adjusted to the corresponding indicator of the transforming element, but the width is selected based on other criteria. These most often turn out to be the width of the tabletop and the need for legroom. You should ask the manufacturer of the transforming mechanism about the level of maximum permissible load. Frame strips are usually attached with confirmations or self-tapping screws. Lifting mechanisms heavier than 4-5 kg, it is better to mount it in a through way, with holes placed under the legs. Subsequent steps include doing through holes under the bolts. Use a Forstner drill to make recesses for the caps. The walls of the base will eventually turn out to be self-supporting. The legs are fastened with ties to achieve a safety margin of 50 kg. The tabletop is attached to the mechanism from the inside.

Table-rack for an office or nursery

Children's rooms and offices are sometimes too small to accommodate a table. But if you attach a tabletop to a floor or wall rack, you will be able to solve two problems at once. The space saving in this case is obvious, and the tabletop will bring additional benefit - in a fixed position it covers the shelves. The solution is equally successful for children’s rooms and offices, because it allows you to organize the creative process, for example, modeling, drawing, designing. If necessary, the table-rack can be turned into a hiding place to easily hide things from strangers. Among the materials, it is better to use fibreboard with a thickness of 12 mm and multiplex with a thickness of 15 mm. Fasteners are selected with flat heads and preferably without sharp corners. Flat dowels will work, but you will need an orbital sander to get the job done. Individual parts are fixed with clamps.

Camping table-suitcase for picnics

To assemble a portable table you will need:

  • self-tapping screws;
  • wing nuts;
  • furniture bolts;
  • latches;
  • suitcase or door handle;
  • loops;
  • timber for the table top box and legs;
  • sheet of chipboard or plywood.

First of all, two halves of the tabletop are made from chipboard sheets. Next, the long beam is cut into pieces according to the calculated length. The bars are connected to the table halves on all sides. Both parts of the tabletop are then attached to each other with hinges. For the legs you will need 4 more bars. Holes are drilled in the resulting supports, as well as in the frame, ensuring an indentation for the free connection of the frame and supports. The latter are assembled together with furniture bolts and wing nuts. Next comes the turn of the pen. There are two latches on the suitcase so that it does not open when moving. There are additional recommendations regarding build quality. Even before completing the main part of the work, you need to draw a diagram from several angles, calculate the dimensions and number of elements. The structure is easy to assemble, but has a complex structure. It should be studied first.

Massage

Assembly begins with the manufacture of the tabletop. Fragments of 600×900 mm are marked on two sheets of plywood. A jigsaw is usually used for cutting. The ends are sanded with sandpaper wrapped around the block or treated grinder. On one of the previously marked segments, a hole measuring 18x12 cm is made for the face. Next they cut out the frame. From a block with a cross-section of 50×20 mm, 8 segments are obtained: 4 of 560 mm each and the same number of 900 mm in length. The blanks are fastened with 45 mm self-tapping screws. Two frames are made with dimensions of 900x600 mm along the outer perimeter. The first recesses for fasteners are drilled before installing the last ones - only 3 mm each. Then the legs are made from the same bars with a cut of 50×20 mm. The supports are then assembled onto piano hinges. The same type of parts fasten the two halves of the tabletop, not far from the ends.

Tennis

Folding table IR for table tennis is a useful thing for active people and just unusual decoration interior The bases are usually formed from timber. The frames are assembled using self-tapping screws according to the size of the covers. Like halves of the table, there should be two frames. For folding versions, two crossbars are mounted next to the central part to increase stability. The legs are made of metal. Moreover, it is advisable to install them on wheels. The joint is decorated with card loops for quick and easy folding in the upward direction. The rigidity of the structure will be provided by hinged struts. Sometimes they do without brackets, for example, by using a construction trestle pattern for the legs. To prevent the lid from moving during the game, holes the size of a bottle cap are drilled in the frame. Then the fastening is organized with wooden or metal pins.

Creation of a round table

The first step is to determine the size of the tabletop - perhaps round version required diameter available for sale. The configuration of a folding tabletop will consist of two or many sectors, but there is also an additional variety - with folding legs. The supports themselves are usually made from timber. The upper part of the table can be lowered or raised due to them. During the work, diagonal measurements are taken with the tabletop positioned at the specified height. The legs of the sides end where the legs of the other begin. Paired supports are connected by timber or board. As a result, cross-shaped pairs are formed. The fastening is organized at half the height.

The legs are fastened to the tabletop with screws and glue. If the surface of the table consists of 2 parts, then they are connected to the supports by 2/3 of the length of the latter. For this, 4 more pieces of timber are also used.

The round version has the greatest capacity and convenience in terms of freedom of movement.

If you are a summer resident, the owner of a private house, or simply like to relax in nature, you should know that tables and tables on the street can become a real problem. This is all due to the lack of mobility and familiar furniture that you can’t easily take with you on a picnic. An excellent option would be a folding table that you can assemble with your own hands.

If we move a little away from the topic of relaxation on fresh air, then we can remember about small apartments, in the kitchen of which it is sometimes very difficult to place a large table for the whole family. This problem can also be solved with the help of folding furniture. After all, now practicality is increasingly capturing the hearts of ordinary residents. We will talk about the complexities of the device, the parameters for choosing materials and the creation process.

Varieties

In this regard, everything depends more on physical dimensions tables and areas of their application. One way or another, the moving part should be at least a little shorter than the height of the entire table. Otherwise, your design simply will not be able to come together. There are many ideas for folding tables that can be complemented with your own options for the exterior decoration of an interior or exterior piece.

It's no secret that the most popular places places for using tables of this type are Catering, in particular outdoor sections, trade, picnics, you should not discount the option of placing a similar item in your apartment. As for the last option, most of the attention can be paid to exterior decoration table.

The main differences between folding tables are concentrated in the tabletops. They can come in a variety of different and unusual shapes, although this is limited to simple geometric shapes.

If you doubt their versatility, you can look on the Internet or in magazines for photos of the most popular folding tables. different forms. Here everything depends more on the taste of the owner and the purpose of the table. The most practical are rectangular tabletops, which are most often found in folding tables.

Leg design

Legs are almost always made of steel, aluminum or wood. This does not apply to the situation when the entire table is made of plastic, in which case the legs are also made of this material. This must be taken into account when thinking about how to make a folding table with your own hands, because metal and plastic are poorly processed without necessary devices. Plastic can actually work only if the structure is ready-made. In this regard, the tree is excellent for home options.

If you are buying a table, then you should pay attention to the legs, which can be of several types. Here the division into materials fades into the background. First you need to look at their position.

If they are located parallel to each other, then it will be much easier and more comfortable to sit at such a table. But the cross design of their positioning has a higher level of stability.

In addition, in some cases, the legs can be adjusted, which has a good effect on the stability of the table. This is especially useful in nature and simply with uneven floors.

If you are chasing aesthetic pleasure, then pay attention to tables that have parallel legs made of metal or wood, and a wooden tabletop, which can be simply sanded or varnished. This set looks especially attractive both at home and on the street.

But this does not apply to trips with picnics. In this case, tables with a lightweight design are best suited. Usually this is aluminum for the lower part, and a light substitute for wood for the tabletop, which, if desired, can be painted, or covered with some kind of applique, and varnished on top, it’s a matter of taste.

Making a table yourself

Step-by-step instructions for a folding table can be found on the Internet along with drawings. If you prefer self-invented solutions, then it would be better to make a table of a simple design. This option can be made from wood, and it will be quite light and practical. Perfect solution for outdoor recreation or just in the garden of your yard.

It is better to take the tabletop from chipboard. This will make the structure lighter, but after treating it with varnish, you will not notice much of a difference. There will be twelve parts in total, and this number may change depending on your preferences. It's about about the paired legs that will be connected by a cross, the legs, which will need three pieces, two parallel strips on both sides for the moving mechanism, and the tabletop itself.

Such a design is easy to find on the Internet or a thematic magazine, and general scheme Will not change. In addition, you can make drawings of a folding table yourself.

All parts need to be cut out, and it will be more convenient to do this using circular saw. Next you will need: a drill, a screwdriver, screws, bolts and sandpaper. With such a minimal set of tools, you can easily cope with the task.

It is better to connect moving parts with bolts that will not protrude more than twenty millimeters. First you need to connect the supports to which the rods are attached. Next comes the tabletop, on which you first need to mark the mounting points, then screw the main structure.

Next come the auxiliary components of the table. As you can see, there is nothing complicated about this. Assembling the table is, in fact, a stage that is second in simplicity only to varnishing and choosing a design. The most difficult thing in all this is to cut out the parts correctly and choose the size for them before doing this.

Photos of folding tables with your own hands

Any family loves to go outdoors, and for this they need a table and chairs of a lightweight and foldable design that can be easily stored in the trunk of a car.

The folding design has its advantages and features.

You should start by choosing the material from which you can make this design.

If you do not have experience working with metal and plastic, which require a special large set of tools, then build a structure made of wood– it is easy to make.

A simple picnic table can be made from boards, bars, plywood or chipboard.

Wood has many advantages:

  • naturalness;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • durability when properly processed;
  • does not cause allergic reactions.

But there are also disadvantages:

  • wood is afraid of dampness;
  • it may warp from sunlight;
  • it is affected by temperature changes;
  • it can be damaged by insects.

For this reason, it will be necessary to carry out additional treatment against rotting, exposure to moisture and insects so that it does not change its appearance over time.

Metal- great, durable material, which has both advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages include: environmental friendliness, long term service, aesthetic appearance.

Flaws:

  • you need a special set of tools;
  • if you choose thick metal, the structure will turn out to be quite heavy;
  • moisture can cause the metal to corrode;
  • requires some skill and additional processing.

WITH plastic it is much more difficult to work with, but it does not have the same disadvantages as metal and wood, and it does not require additional processing.

Advice. In addition, the table can be combined, for example, the tabletop is made of wood and the legs are made of metal.

It’s up to you to decide what material to choose, but we’ll look at making a folding picnic table from wood. For it you need to prepare:

The desire to escape into the vastness of nature increasingly overcomes residents of large and small cities. One-day trips to the nearest body of water or multi-day fishing trips to other regions of vast Russia require careful preparation and organization. One of mandatory elements camping life is a table. Wherein the best option will serve as a folding table, occupying as much space as possible less space in the trunk of a car and easy to transport. You can easily make a wonderful version of a camping table with your own hands.

The design is so simple that it can be made by any home craftsman with experience in using various tools. The following tools will be needed for work:

  1. carpentry saw with small tooth for sawing parts;
  2. sandpaper (sandpaper) of various grain sizes for finishing the edges of parts and the entire product;
  3. tape measure for measuring the lengths of parts;
  4. carpenter's square for checking the squareness of the edges of flat parts;
  5. construction stapler with a supply of staples;
  6. drill with a drill of a suitable diameter;
  7. flat screwdriver.

In addition to tools, you need to prepare the following materials:

  1. a round rod with a diameter of about thirty millimeters and a length of one hundred and sixty centimeters;
  2. hardwood slats with a cross-section of fifteen by forty-five millimeters - six meters;
  3. two slats of the same section, each fifty-four centimeters long;
  4. two pieces of nylon belt twenty-five to thirty millimeters wide, fifty-four centimeters each;
  5. threaded inserts made of brass, having internal thread ten millimeters;
  6. four M10x70 bolts.

Let's start the description of the manufacturing technology with the legs of the camping table. The best material for them can be two birch cuttings for rakes, which can be easily purchased at any hardware store. Choose straight-line pieces to keep the table looking tidy. Saw off four pieces of forty centimeters each with a hacksaw, clean sandpaper The ends and lower edges are slightly rounded. It would not be a bad idea to sand the surface of the parts.

The next stage of making the table is sawing birch slats into ten pieces of sixty centimeters each. According to preliminary markings using a tape measure and a square with a carpenter's hacksaw, cut the workpieces. To give smoothness, flatness and ends, sand with emery cloth. Next, you need to sand two pre-prepared parts, each fifty-four centimeters long.

Then comes the work of manufacturing a flexible tabletop, which is a slatted rolled mat. Its basis is those ten slats of sixty centimeters each. To connect the slats, we will use nylon straps and a construction stapler. Lay out the tabletop elements on a flat surface smooth surface, reverse side towards yourself, straightening their ends.

To maintain straightness, lay planed, even timber along the ends. It is better to calibrate the distance between these parts using small elements with a cross-section of one centimeter. Place the straps on the back side of the slats, stepping back an equal distance from the ends. Pre-melt the edges of the belts in the flame of a lighter.

Using a stapler, attach the belt to the slats as shown in the attached photos. Watch the distance between the slats.

If the stapler does not finish the staples slightly, use a hammer to fit them more tightly into the material. In this way, attach all the tabletop slats to the belts. Next, we move on to installing the threaded bushings in the legs of the camping table.

To do this, drill blind holes about 40 mm deep from one of the ends with a drill of the required diameter, then carefully screw in the bushings with a screwdriver, trying to maintain their alignment with the hole.

Now, with the tabletop facing down, place the slats prepared in advance at an equal distance from the ends of the tabletop elements and drill one hole in each slat (as shown below).

The diameter of the holes must be such that the bolts pass through them freely.

During the warmer months, it's tempting to get outside to enjoy some delicious snacks, scenery, and conversation. In order to organize an event at the highest level, you will need special furniture. There is nothing difficult about making a folding picnic table. To do this, just follow our recommendations.

Today, two types are most widespread mobile furniture. The first is a table equipped with folding legs, which are without special effort Stows away under the tabletop for ease of movement. The second model is a suitcase table, where the tabletop is a structure resembling a suitcase. When folded, the legs are located inside, but if the furniture needs to be unfolded, they are removed and combined with the body using a special mechanism.

Table with folding legs Suitcase table

Each of the presented options has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is much easier to create folding picnic tables with your own hands; in addition, it will take a few seconds to unfold it. However, the second type of table is ergonomic, takes up very little space, and therefore does not create problems when moving. Many people place accessories inside the cabinet, such as napkins or cooking utensils.

Features of material selection

For beginners, it is better to use wood

A homemade folding table can consist of various materials. Beginning craftsmen use wood when working, as it is easy to process and does not require the use of an extensive set of tools. Wooden furniture is presentable appearance, so it will become a real decoration for a meal in nature. For a folding table you can purchase bars, plywood sheets or chipboard. The options listed are great to do wooden crafts. If you want the fruits of your labor to last as long as possible, use special varnishes and compounds. Craftsmen do this to protect tables from negative influence external environment(solar exposure, excessive dampness, etc.).

To make a strong and durable product, it is recommended to use plastic or metal. To process them, special tools will be required, and the work itself will require a lot of effort. But as a result, you will get excellent chairs and tables, ideal for outdoor recreation. Finished furniture will be distinguished by its reliability and long service life.

What tools will be useful in your work?

To create a folding table with your own hands, you will need:

  • electric jigsaw (instead, you can use a hacksaw to process wood);
  • an electric drill, which will be needed to create holes;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • tape measure and ruler for taking measurements;
  • pencil;
  • level.

How to make a camping table?

1 2

The following diagram will help you successfully build a folding picnic table with your own hands:

  1. Cut out a tabletop for a camp table with the necessary parameters. If you wish, you can make this element from several boards, firmly fastening them together.
  2. Make a frame. Place suitable boards on the tabletop, ensuring that they extend a couple of centimeters above the edge on each side. Using a jigsaw, cut the boards to the required length and place them on the tabletop again to check that the parameters match the finished drawing. Draw the outlines with a pencil to screw in the screws along them.
  3. Cut out the elements from wood on which the legs will later be installed, and then make holes in them. For the second pair of legs, create supports and place them between the frame and the supporting objects. This will prevent the legs from colliding during the folding process.
  4. Combine the frame and top to form camping furniture. Staple individual elements with each other using special products. Secure the stop bars and supports. Using a drill, make 4 holes and insert bolts into them.
  5. Cut legs for outdoor furniture. In the upper part, round the elements, cut the lower area of the legs at an angle. Make holes for fasteners.
  6. Combine the individual pieces to form an extendable table. Attach the first pair of legs using a crossbar, and then secure using a bolt and threaded fastener. Repeat this procedure using the next pair of parts.
  7. As an addition, you can equip the collapsible table with handles. This will make it much easier to transport the dacha attribute yourself.
