Miracle of birth
The baby Nicholas was born in the city of Patara in Asia Minor (now the territory of modern Turkey). Feofan and Nonna, his parents, were pious and fairly wealthy people. Wealth did not prevent them from being God-fearing Christians, loving God and merciful to the poor.

The time came when John, the bishop of the Lycian country, departed to Christ.
