The advantages of accordion interior folding doors are obvious. They are ideal for small spaces as they take up virtually no space. Such door designs have a variety of appearance, thanks to which they can be used in rooms of a wide variety of functional purpose. In addition, the installation of accordion interior doors is quite simple and does not require special experience or skill. The design of an accordion door, which is a combination of folding book doors and regular blinds, may differ in some details, but some elements are necessarily present in all options without exception. The advantages of folding accordions are obvious. They are ideal for small spaces as they take up virtually no space. Such door structures have a varied appearance, so they can be used in rooms with a wide variety of functional purposes. In addition, the accordion is quite simple and does not require special experience and

dexterity. The accordion design, which is a combination of folding book doors and regular blinds, may differ in some details, but some elements are necessarily present in all options without exception. The presence of a top guide rail, rollers and stoppers is standard.

Installation of the accordion begins with the assembly of the plates (lamellas), if they are not sold assembled. As a rule, the connection of the plates is carried out on a rod, almost the same as on a book door. The number of plates directly depends on the width of the doorway. After all the plates are connected into one whole sheet, on its right side, according to the instructions for the accordion, you need to fasten the side locking panel, and on the left you need to fasten the side locking panel. Both of these panels are attached to the canvas using strips, which are secured with stoppers. Now you need to install the runners (rollers). They need to start fastening from the lock panel, through one plate. And finally, we install the magnetic lock on the side lock panel.

Then you can start cutting out the guides. The length of the top rail should correspond to the width of the doorway, and the side rails should be 25 mm less than the height of the doorway. After all the guides are cut out, you can begin to attach them. First, we attach the top guide at the top of the doorway using 1 mounting screw. This rough (light) fixation of the guide rail is necessary for convenient insertion of rollers into it. After all the rollers are inserted into the groove of the upper guide, the rail is aligned strictly along the opening and firmly fixed with screws. Now you can start attaching the side rails. They also

They are attached to the doorway with screws. Then the side fixing panel is fixed in one side guide using a clip (docking strip), and on the other (from the side of the side lock panel) the second part of the magnetic lock is fastened with screws.

Usually an accordion does not cause any difficulties; it is enough to have it on hand detailed instructions. However, if, after reading the instructions, you still have little idea what you need to do, then you can watch the installation instructional video, of which there are quite a few on the Internet. And it’s even better if you turn to professionals for help, since the quality and duration of operation of the entire door system largely depends on the quality of installation.

Installation instructions for accordion doors:

1. Measure the height and width of the doorway. If the opening width is greater than 88.5 cm, calculate required amount add

body panels.

2. The length of the side profile is equal to the height h minus 2.5 cm.

3. Shorten the door panels to the required length. The length of the panels is equal to the height h minus 4 cm.

4. Drill holes for horizontal mounting.

5. Screw in one screw and hang the door panels.

6. Secure the top horizontal rail.

7. Clipping the side profile of the door into the guide.

8. Install the lock.

Installation of an accordion door

Folding accordion doors are good because they take up very little space. They are installed in wide doorways, where it is usually used double door, in built-in wardrobes and niches. As a rule, they have a similar design: a door consisting of two narrow doors fastened with hinges slides along the top rail. You can buy an accordion door ready-made or make it from two louvered doors. And you can install the accordion door yourself. We will tell you how to install an accordion door with your own hands.
Process:

We measure the width of the wardrobe along the top (or door frame– depending on where you want to install the door) and cut the rail to size. If the mounting hole was on the cut part of the rail, drill a new one using a twist drill.
Using the mounting holes as guides, drill holes in the underside of the top panel of the wardrobe and secure the rail. Install the receiving latch on the left side of the rail.
Following the instructions, mark the position of the axis on the upper end on the left side of the door. Using a drill of the same diameter as the axle, we drill a hole in the end according to the depth of the part. We insert the axle so that its top protrudes above the end. Install the lower axle in the same way.
Attach the heel plate into place in the lower left corner of the wardrobe. Once the doors are hung, they can be aligned vertically and horizontally by using the included wrench to adjust the bottom foot and the retaining screws in its plate.
We mark the position of the guide on the upper end on the right side of the door. We drill holes according to the diameter of the guide fitting and install the guide.
Attach the loops. This is done from the back of the doors. We lay one door next to the other, leaving a 3 mm gap between them. We place three hinges along the doors at equal intervals, mark the positions of the mounting holes, drill them and secure the hinges.
Install door handle in the center of the right door - this location will allow you to open and close the door in one motion.
Then we proceed directly to installing the doors: fold them and insert the lower axis into the receiving plate at the bottom of the cabinet. Then we insert the upper axis and guide into the rail and slide the door towards the cabinet wall so that the upper axis is fixed in the receiving latch of the rail. If everything is done correctly, the door can be used.

Assembly order

1 . Cut the top rail exactly to the size of the doorway
(part 1c) and secure with one screw.

2. Rotate the top guide around the screw axis so that the door panel runners can be inserted.
3. Insert door panel into the upper guide so that the sliders (parts 7) fit into the groove. Pre-lubricate the runners with technical petroleum jelly or any other thick lubricant.

4 . Rotate the top guide to its original position and secure it to the second screw.

5 . Cut the side guides exactly to the size of the doorway (parts 1a, 16) and secure them with screws (part 11). When installing side rails, you must use a plumb line or level.

6. Guide the door panel into the left (right) guide and snap into place the docking strip (parts 1a and 2).

7. Dismantling is carried out in reverse order.

Unlike standard ones, the accordion door takes up virtually no space outside the opening The accordion door is an ideal choice for owners small apartments. This design can be used as an interior design without breaking the rules fire safety: the canvas will not cover the corridor or adjacent doorways and interfere with evacuation. Besides. An accordion door is often chosen to finish the opening leading to a dressing room or utility room. How to assemble and install a folding structure yourself - read below.

Folding model: room style with accordion door

An accordion door is a structure consisting of several movable leaves that easily move, open the passage, and are placed on one side of the doorway. The accordion door has a wide range of applications due to the variety of models. A modern accordion door can be made from affordable plastic and textiles, as well as more expensive materials - wood and glass, and have doors various colors and level of transparency, decorated with drawings, stones, inserts.

The accordion door is more often used in interior spaces and to separate zones in the room

The choice of an accordion door determines the style of the room, the color scheme of the interior, and the purpose of the door.

So, if an accordion door is used to hide a wardrobe in the bedroom, then the doors should be opaque. The design of the door can be different: for bedrooms in rustic styles wooden sashes are suitable, in modern interiors you can install a door with matte opaque doors, install a textile accordion in monochrome colors or a mirror accordion. Often, a design is chosen for wardrobe doors that imitates display cabinets with opaque glass.

An accordion door can consist of either two or more valves

At the same time, the doors of each model may differ in size, color, and design. The number and design of the doors depends on the purpose and design of the room. So, in living rooms you can install accordion doors with four stained glass doors. For terraces and verandas of private houses, wide doors made of tempered glass on a metal frame, for bathrooms and utility rooms - private, narrow, opaque doors.

How to assemble an accordion door

Regardless of which accordion door you choose: with two or more leaves, the structure will need to be assembled before installation. In order to assemble the door with your own hands, you need to know the structure. Thus, a folding door most often consists of an upper guide (rails), roller runners and fasteners on which the doors are suspended. The door kit may additionally include platbands. But, most often, you will have to purchase them separately.

The accordion door allows you to close large openings

The accordion door is assembled as follows:

  1. Connected to the left panel is a narrow panel.
  2. Using special connecting strips, a wide sash is attached to a narrow panel. Intermediate slats are installed alternating wide and narrow sides.
  3. We string all the sashes in this way.
  4. We fasten the resulting structure with the supplied covers and screws, placing them under the connecting loops.
  5. We put rollers on the doors.

For some manufacturers, accordion door elements can be assembled directly without using intermediate slats, using grooves. Models made from MDF are often assembled using a special axis that stretches through the sashes, connecting them.

Compact accordion door: do-it-yourself installation

Before you start installing a folding door, you need to check the presence of all components of the kit and their quality (elements may have manufacturing defects or damage due to improper transportation). You can begin installing the door only after you have verified that you have the necessary components. In addition, you will need to prepare the following tools: a Phillips screwdriver, a screwdriver, a hacksaw, a level, a ruler, a tape measure, mounting gun and foam.

Right installed doors have small gaps and easy movement

Installation of folding interior doors is carried out as follows:

  1. First, all elements are adjusted to the size of the opening: guides in width, sashes in height. Afterwards, according to the instructions, it is assembled door leaf.
  2. Locks are placed at equal distances around the perimeter of the opening: four on the right and left sides of the opening.
  3. Next, the upper guide is installed: first, special fastening elements - clips - are mounted to the opening.
  4. The pre-assembled door leaf is inserted into the guide.
  5. The guide is attached to the upper clip elements and snaps into place.
  6. The outermost loop on one side is inserted into the locks and secured with gentle pressure.
  7. A side bar is installed on the opposite side.

In order for the installation to proceed quickly and efficiently, when installing and assembling the accordion door, it is necessary to follow some recommendations of professional workers. So, for example, before installation it is necessary to prepare the doorway: dismantle the old door frame, widen and level the opening. This way, it will be possible to allocate the maximum area for installing the door.

The accordion door fits perfectly into any interior

In addition, so that assembly does not take a lot of effort, time and money, you should:

  1. Take measurements of the opening after its preparation. You should buy a door based on these measurements. In addition, you need to calculate the height of the doors so that after installation there is a gap of 7-10 mm under the door to ensure natural ventilation.
  2. If the length of the guide rail is greater than the width of the opening, then before installation it should be cut with a hacksaw.
  3. When installing, to avoid bending the guide, drill the hole first better with a drill 2 mm less than the screw itself, and only then carefully screw in the fasteners.
  4. If the sash travels from right to left, then the locking latch should be installed on right side. If it’s the other way around, then go to the left.
  5. For fastening it is better to use 25-30 mm self-tapping screws.

All work should be carried out on a flat, clean surface so as not to inadvertently damage the material. In addition, most folding doors come with a step-by-step installation instructions, familiarization with which guarantees the highest quality and fastest installation.

Similar materials

Modern models of accordion doors are not only an element for dividing space, but also an effective component of design. They are made from various materials, issued in different styles, which is clearly demonstrated by the photos. They sell doors with a set of fastenings and spare parts. The installation can be performed by representatives of the company, but after reading our step by step instructions After watching the thematic video and reading the reviews, you will understand that assembling the door with your own hands is not difficult.

What are accordion sliding doors?

Accordion doors are a system consisting of individual vertical slats from 10 to 15 cm wide, connected into one sheet using small strong loops. Visually they look like corrugated blinds.

The guide to which all panels are attached, as a rule, is located at the top, less often, but still there is another option - the bottom location. If there is a wide doorway, install an accordion door consisting of 2 panels. When open, all elements fold together like accordion bellows. Smooth movement and parallelism of the elements in relation to each other are ensured by special synchronizers. Fixation of the canvas in the required position is carried out using stoppers-flags.

Usually the design includes 3-4 sections, but in case of a non-standard doorway, manufacturers complete the door with additional panels. main feature doors - save space, which is especially important for small rooms, where even an extra area of 1 m² makes a difference.

It can't be said that sliding doors accordion looks organically in any interior. But if the choice is made correctly, then the premises acquire personality traits. Moreover, you can buy not only a solid door, but also one with inserts: glass, stained glass, metal frames. Designs can even be completely mirror or glass. Among them there are models that are controlled automatically.

Attention: accordion doors made of glass, wood, MDF are quite heavy, therefore the load on the roller structure is corresponding, and this affects the service life. Plastic accordions are lightweight and last a long time.

Plastic accordion folding doors

There are several types of plastic “accordions” and each of them differs in its design:

  • The door leaf is assembled on one side. When installing this version of the door, the composite leaf is inserted into a pair of guides.
  • A structure hidden in the wall. In this case, the doors go into plasterboard wall, therefore, installation of this model is possible only with a special design.
  • Model like a book. There are only 2 sections of the same size, folding once.

Plastic accordion options have their own characteristics and should be taken into account when choosing:

  1. The connections between PVC strips are also made of plastic. Therefore, the fewer folding fragments, the longer the door will last.
  2. Plastic models have low heat and sound insulation, but they are good for highlighting individual zones.
  3. When mounting a plastic “accordion”, set the guides strictly horizontally, otherwise the hinges, roller mechanisms and feet will quickly wear out.

Wooden doors accordion

Light wood, usually pine, is used for manufacturing. Natural wood combined with glass inserts, MDF, stained glass. By virtue of design features systems, wooden sections They are thin, so they are not very heavy.

To secure the inserts, grooves are provided in the panels; they are additionally reinforced with glazing beads. Wooden “accordions” are used as interior partitions, partitions, and for dressing rooms.

The wooden frame of accordion doors has high aesthetic properties, in addition, it is more durable compared to other materials. In addition to solid wood, laminated veneer lumber is used to make the frame. It is lighter, and is not subject to shrinkage, and is not deformed, therefore, sliding design it is reliable, stable and practical.

The advantages of wooden accordion doors include:

  • functionality;
  • mobility;
  • noiselessness;
  • ease of installation;
  • decorativeness;
  • environmental friendliness.

The disadvantage is that they have low moisture resistance and are not as durable as their swing counterparts.

Main characteristics of glass, aluminum, PVC accordion doors

Glass accordion doors look impressive: light, stylish, filling the room with light. They look harmonious in classic interior, and in the very modern design. Made entirely of glass, they are a cross between a blind and a folding door.

Polyvinyl chloride plastic is an excellent material for accordion doors. It does not burn, is moisture resistant, and does not emit poisons when heated, so the door can be installed in any room.

Step-by-step instructions for assembling accordion doors

Assembling and installing accordion doors is easy. They come with fastenings and spare parts. TO expensive models Manufacturers make sure to add spare strips in case the door has to be extended. The installation process itself consists of the following steps:

Advice. When screwing in self-tapping screws, damage to the material often occurs. To avoid this, pre-drill the holes using a smaller drill bit and then install the fasteners.

Accordion doors are a wonderful alternative swing doors. They not only save space, but can also become the highlight of the interior.

We will install an accordion door and talk about how you can do it yourself and what problems may arise during the installation process.

After unpacking, before proceeding with assembling and installing the door, you must check the presence of all components and parts. Their number depends on the kit itself and on what size the door should be.

You also need to check the quality of the parts. They often have scratches and other damage that may occur during transportation. If you are satisfied with the quality, feel free to proceed with assembly and installation. We will consider the assembly of the door, the assembled dimensions of which should be 83 by 204 cm. We will also consider all the problems that may arise during installation.

Preparing the opening

So, first of all, you need to prepare the opening. We will do this using additional strips.

Taking into account the size of the door and the thickness of the trim, we can easily calculate the size of the opening we need.

So, here are our calculations: 83 + 2 + 2 = 87 cm. Here 83 is the width of the accordion door itself, 2 is the thickness of two additional strips of 1 cm, then the next two is the 1 cm distance between the extension and the wall on each side for foaming. As a result, we get 87 cm - our opening should be 87 cm wide. After we have found out the dimensions, we begin preparing the opening. On the one hand, we need to remove all remnants of the plaster. We do this using a hammer drill.

Perhaps your opening will already be cleared. Accordingly, here you see an already cleaned opening:

This size is required for installation. We mark these 87 cm in the direction we want to expand, and draw a level line along the entire height.

Next, we proceed to expand the opening to the resulting size. It can be done different ways. For example, cut off part of the wall using a grinder or expand it using a hammer drill. We choose the last method, that is, expansion with a hammer drill, so that there is as little dust as possible during the work process - the apartment in which the installation took place was already residential. With this option, along the line that we drew, it is necessary to make through holes using a drill.

We make holes along the entire length approximately every 3-4 cm and beat the brick away from these holes with a hammer drill using a spatula.

So, the opening for beautification is ready.

Assembling a structure from additional strips

Let's start assembling the structure from additional strips.

First, we cut off the uneven part of each extension.

We need the top bar to be 85 cm long, so, having cut it with a jigsaw, we measure 85 cm from the flat end and cut it too.

The size of the side strips can be found as follows. We take the height of the opening, in our case it is 207 cm, and subtract 2 cm from it - 1 cm for the thickness of the finishing and 1 cm for foaming. After all the cuts we begin to assemble the structure itself. To do this, measure 0.5 cm from each edge of the top trim, draw a line for convenience and drill 2 holes with a diameter of 3 mm at an arbitrary distance from each other at this distance.

After this, we lean the side panels against the top one so that the edge of the side goes along the cut of the top panel:

Next, holding the structure in this position, we drill the side strips through the finished holes and screw in self-tapping screws measuring approximately 3 by 50 mm. The result should be a U-shaped structure, ready for installation.

Let's try it on in the opening. If done correctly, it fits easily.

We make holes in the side strips:

They need to be drilled at the same distance from each other along the entire length and exactly in the middle along the width. In our case, the extensions were 15 cm, which means that the middle of the extension is 7.5 cm.

The length of the plank is 205 cm. We retreat 10 cm from the bottom and divide it into 5 parts. It turns out that the holes will go every 39 cm. The holes themselves may be different. It depends on what fasteners you use. For example, you can make holes of 3 mm and countersunk holes of 8.5 mm and secure them using a “hedgehog” dowel and a wood screw – a “hedgehog” dowel and a wood screw through the plank. You can simply use a dowel-nail, as in our case.

But in the case of a dowel-nail, it is necessary to make the hole narrower by 6 mm and countersunk by 10 mm.

When attaching the additional strip to the wall, do not forget that everything must be done exclusively according to the level.

(Figure 28)
Remember to check the level even after you have already secured the strip to make sure nothing has moved. When leveling, be sure to leave a distance for foaming between the finishing and the wall. To do this, you can use wooden blocks as a spacer.

Depending on the evenness of the wall, the resulting blocks will be different. After we have placed the structure in the opening, we can begin foaming.

Foaming is done from bottom to top on both sides.

Door assembly

While the foam hardens, we will begin assembling the door itself.

First of all, we saw off the side guide profile and the horizontal rail to the required length, which in principle is the same thing. The only difference is in the use of the sides. So we need to measure the horizontal rail to be 83 cm long, and the guide profile together with the rail connected to it is measured to be 205 cm, that is, along the length of the additional strip.

All this, of course, needs to be cut.

After that we put the panels together.

The sequence is as follows: we attach a narrow panel to the finishing panel. Here is the final and narrow panel:

After this comes the hinge profile:

We connect the panels, and here comes a small hinged profile, which continues to alternate with wide profiles:

Now comes the wide profile. Here are the finishing, narrow, articulated and wide profiles:

The launchpad completes this:

And at the end there is a guide connecting profile. This is how it is attached:

And this is what it all looks like:

Now you need to fasten everything together. For this purpose, we put a plug on the hinge profile and screw it with the short screw from the kit. It all happens like this:

The profile is put on here, wrapped, and this is how it looks in its finished form:

This procedure must be repeated with each profile, both from the lower and upper edges of the resulting canvas. Next come the videos.

We screw them to the finishing panel and to the middle of the upper end of each wide panel using long screws, exactly in the middle. This is what it looks like when finished:

Installation of a door in an opening

After this, we proceed to install the door into the opening. First we will prepare the horizontal rail.

You need to make four 3 mm holes in it and through them, leaning the rail against the intended mounting location, drill an additional strip.

After that, folding the door into an accordion, we put it on the rail, without fastening anything yet.

The door is hung:

Let's move on to the guide profiles. They also need to be drilled in four places with a 3 mm drill at equal distances from each other. It is very important. We make holes in the extensions in the same way.

This is what it looks like:

After this, we connect the canvas to the guide profile using a joining profile, which already sits on the canvas itself.

It is very flexible and attaches with a snap. Here it is already latched:

Installation of handles

For a complete picture, you need to install handles.

They are installed in holes already prepared by the factory and fastened to each other through the panel using ties:

These are the holes:

We put the handles on both sides and wrap them:

After this, you need to close the door and make a mark from the latch on the guide profile. Here is this guide profile, and from this latch, which is slightly visible from the side, we make marks with a pencil:

According to them, it will be necessary to screw the strike plate for the latch onto the profile and check its functionality.

Everything should snap into place.

Installation of platbands

The last thing to do is cash out. But before that you will have to cut off the frozen foam. A mark for cutting the casing must be made along the edge of the additional strip.

It is important here not to randomly mix up the angle of the cut. In the same way we cut the right bar:

It's better to start with side planks. You can saw them off using miter saw, and using a hacksaw with a miter box:

We attach the platband using finishing nails.

It is necessary to take into account: if the thickness of the additional strip is 1 cm, you need to drive the finishing nail 0.5 cm so that the nail goes exactly into the middle of the additional strip. In this way we nail the platbands to the additional strips.

It is more convenient to first attach the side trims and only then the top ones. This is what it should look like:

After we repeat the procedure on the reverse side, the installation of the accordion door, as well as the accompanying lining of the opening, will be completed. This is what the finished door looks like:

Unfortunately, our additional trim and trim are slightly different in color, because we couldn’t match the color. This is what the door looks like when finished:

You can see that the plaster is slightly damaged after expansion - it will need to be plastered. Don't pay attention to the visible curvature of the door - it's all about the lens. In fact, everything is done exactly, otherwise the door simply would not close.

The doorway is an integral part of any room, and each apartment owner wants to decorate it in his own way. In fact, there are a lot of design options; some prefer to install regular wooden doors, and some are decorative or hardware. Nowadays you can often find in markets and shops beautiful models doors, which are called “accordion”. To install them, use special technology, which requires strict adherence to all rules and consistency, while high-quality installation of an accordion door is not difficult if you have all the materials.

Accordion doors are installed in places where it is not possible to install a regular door, these can be wide doorways, closets, etc.

Such a product should not only be functional, but also fit perfectly into the interior of the room. Usually, interior doors can be different sizes, colors and textures, so choosing the right product will not be difficult.

For small apartments, sliding compartment doors or accordion doors, which can be installed in any room, are considered a good option. The product is often installed in the living room, bedroom, kitchen or office. In addition, the plastic accordion door can be installed as a shower curtain. Following simple recommendations, installing an accordion door with your own hands will not be difficult.

What are the features?

  • It is important to note the significant space savings. Often you have to place furniture based on the location of doorways. It is unlikely that you will be able to place a closet, sofa or shelf nearby, since this will interfere with the opening of the door. As for the accordion, such problems do not arise.
  • The walls can be finished with any materials, since opened door will not damage the cladding with its handle.
  • Such doors are silent, they open smoothly, sliding along the guides.
  • Another important advantage is safety; children will not be able to pinch their finger, which cannot be said about conventional door designs. In addition, these doors open easily.
  • Reliable to use. Accordion doors may occasionally sag or warp. This only happens due to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Perhaps many have noticed that in certain seasons of the year the sash opens or closes with difficulty, but this in no way applies to accordions.
  • Such products can be installed for any opening, even where regular door doesn't fit.

Equipment

Before installing the accordion door, you need to check the presence of all parts and fasteners.
So, the accordion door kit includes:

  • top rail in the form of an aluminum guide;
  • door panel;
  • 2 roller runners;
  • hinges for connecting panels;
  • adjusting key;
  • other elements and accessories for installation.

If doorway It has standard width equal to up to one meter, then it is not necessary to install a lower guide. In some cases, extensions and trims are not included in the kit, so they have to be purchased separately.

As a rule, doors are purchased with all necessary spare parts and fastenings. If the kit is of high quality and not cheap, then it will include spare hair for increasing the width of the door in the future.

In addition to the materials for installing the accordion door, you need to purchase preparation materials doorway. Any extensions and platbands with a thickness of at least 15 mm are suitable for these purposes.

You also need to prepare some tools, without which it is impossible to install such a door. So, you can’t do without an impact drill, a hammer drill, a tape measure, a plumb line and a bubble level, a construction angle, a hacksaw, a miter box, bars or wooden bowls, and polyurethane foam.

Features of doorway preparation

There are options for mounting an accordion door inside the door frame, but in this way it will not be possible to significantly save the usable width of the opening. In such cases, it is recommended to completely remove old door with the box, knocking down the mortar underneath it to the base of the wall.

After such actions, you can take measurements of the formed opening and determine the amount of material. The need is also determined additional expansion reduction of the doorway.

The prepared extensions need to be cut to form a box without a threshold. IN in this case the upper crossbar will be fixed with its end to the upper edge of the vertical extensions with self-tapping screws.

To prevent damage to the material, you must first drill holes at the screw installation points using thin drill, then screw them in.

After preparing the door frame, you can insert it into the doorway using bars and other wooden substrates as wedges. For better reliability It is recommended to use bars equal in width. Using them, spacers are formed in the center and along the lower edge. This is necessary so that the extensions do not sag during installation. To fix the extensions to the base, long anchors are used, which are installed three on each side and two on top.

After tightening the anchors, you can proceed to the process of foaming the gap between the extensions and the wall. When the foam is completely dry, install the door itself.

Installation of an accordion door

You need to measure the height and width of the doorway before purchasing the door. This is the only way to know the required number of panels in a sash. The folding door must be installed by fixing the guide.

For standard opening The width of the guide rail can vary between 33-35 cm, while its height can be 33-39 mm. If the width of this opening is less than the length of the guide, then the last element must be cut using a hacksaw for metal.

The distance between the holes and the guide should be approximately 25-30 cm. Using these holes, it is fixed at the top of the opening. If necessary, you need to drill new ones.

When opening the sash from right to left, you need to put a latch on the right side, and the same will happen on the other side.

You need to insert the end panel axle into the latch and place the carriage slider in the rail. The guide is fixed to the upper area of the opening using self-tapping screws 20-30 mm long. After this, a metal axis is installed in the end sash at the top and bottom. To do this, you need to mark the position of the axes and drill holes for them, if there are none, and their depth should be less than the length of the axes.

It should be noted that the end of each axis will protrude slightly. The axes are fixed to the panel. As a general rule, the bottom and top axis should be aligned horizontally and vertically.

Under the axis located in the lower corner of the opening, you need to install a receiving plate, placing its position relative to the latch. At the upper end of the panel that was installed last, you need to drill holes where the slider will be attached. The accordion door panels must be placed side by side in the same way as they are intended to be connected with hinges. You need to be careful not to confuse the placement of the right and left panels. Next they move on to the stage of installing the door hinges. Using a pencil, you need to carefully place their location on the shutters, taking into account the required distance. It is recommended to place three hinges between the closest sashes, but not on the outer ones.

Horizontal placement of low, middle or upper level elements is provided. This pattern should be the same on all sashes. The slightest displacement should not be allowed, since distortions and subsequently cracks may appear on the panels.

Having marked the placement of each hinge with the same distance, both horizontally and vertically, you need to secure three hinges on one sash. They need to be inserted into back side. Adjacent panels must be connected in such a way that the distance between the mini panels is approximately 3 mm.

To install the handle on last panel you need to drill out the groove. It is installed on the outer panel near the loop connection. In addition, you need to drill a groove for the lock between the panels.

After this, you can hang the assembled sashes on the mounts. The structure rises and is inserted into metal axles, namely landing plates. Now you need to connect the carriage axis to the plate of the last sash. For these purposes, you need to use a key to adjust the position and movement of the door itself. The shutter is adjusted by tightening or loosening the nut on the end or carriage axle.

If the doorway is more than one meter, then more upper runners are needed to cover it. You will also need a support to adjust the door travel in the lower area of the opening. You cannot do without a bottom rail into which the wheels of the carriage mounted on one or two panels will be wound. The guide needs to be recessed into the floor or hidden under the threshold. It should be noted that dirt often accumulates in the channel, which is not completely cleaned out.

What could be the disadvantages of an accordion door?

Despite important advantages such door design, there are some disadvantages associated with using a large number of bearings and hinges, which can reduce the reliability of the door. If you buy an inexpensive product, then much attention should be paid to the choice of accessories. The service life of the door will depend on its quality.

Disadvantages also include poor sound and heat insulation. Closing the door tightly is very difficult to achieve. If you buy it to create silence in the room, then this is not a very suitable option.

It is better to install such doors in rooms with a small area. They effectively save useful space.
