Standard sink connection. Correct connection of the kitchen sink. How to install a sink in the kitchen with your own hands - step-by-step diagram

When carrying out major renovations in the bathroom, as a rule, the plumbing fixtures are changed, including the sink. This item must be correctly selected and installed correctly, connecting it to the wastewater disposal system and water supply. Installing a washbasin can easily be done on your own, since connecting the sink to the sewerage system and water supply is not a particularly difficult task. However, this is enough simple process There are some tricks and nuances that will be useful to know for craftsmen who are taking on such work for the first time.

One of the mandatory plumbing items installed in a bathroom is a washbasin. To make the sink convenient to use, you should choose it correctly, install it correctly and carefully connect it to the water supply and sewer system.

The technology for installing and connecting a washbasin is quite simple, so there is no particular need to invite specialists to perform this operation. But for those who are taking on this work for the first time, it will be useful to read how to connect a sink to a sewer and watch a video on this topic.

Choosing a sink and siphon

In order for installation to be carried out without problems, you need to choose the right materials.

How to choose a sink?

Sinks are produced in a wide variety, for example, according to the installation method, the following varieties are distinguished:

  • Console. Such a washbasin is attached to the wall on brackets, while the water supply and sewerage pipes, as a rule, are laid hidden in the wall.
  • Built-in. These models are installed on a cabinet or tabletop. This installation option allows you to successfully hide the pipes and use the space under the sink to store a variety of items.

  • "Basin." Models can be in the shape of a cube, bowl or hemisphere; they are installed on top of the countertop.
  • Tulip (pedestal). This type of washbasin has a “leg” in which all the necessary communications are located.

As for the materials from which the sink is made, in most cases models made of sanitaryware or porcelain are used. Recently, models made from natural or artificial stone.

Advice! If you want to decorate an original interior, you can choose a washbasin made of glass, metal or even wood.

Some tips for choosing bathroom sinks:

  • It is necessary that all plumbing that will be installed be made in the same style.
  • When choosing a model, you should consider the size of the room. For example, a compact corner washbasin will perfectly complement the equipment of a small bathroom.
  • It should be noted that sink models have a different number of holes for the mixer. Therefore, only certain types of mixers can be installed on them.
  • On the sink, just like on the bathtub, it is desirable to have an overflow hole.

How to choose a siphon for a washbasin?

Siphons are available in different designs; they differ in materials of manufacture and design features. Thus, according to their design, the following types of siphons are distinguished:

  • Corrugated. These models have the very simple design, they are an outlet connected to a corrugated pipe, mounted on a curved frame. The frame is used for ease of installation.

Advice! This type of siphon is attractive for its simplicity and compactness; it can be installed even if the space under the sink is limited. The disadvantages of the design include the difficulty of cleaning; in order to wash the corrugated pipe, the siphon will have to be completely dismantled.

  • Bottle. This traditional model siphon, which is used very widely. This piping option can be called the direct opposite of corrugated siphons in terms of positive qualities and disadvantages. Thus, installing a bottle siphon is much more difficult than a corrugated siphon, but you can clean it without any problems; this does not require complete disassembly. Another advantage of this design is that an additional pipe can be attached to the fitting. This quality may be needed when installing a washing machine.

  • Pipe. This siphon model is made in the form of a curved pipe, in the elbow of which there is a water seal. To clean such a siphon, complete dismantling is not required. It will be enough to disconnect only the lower elbow.

Advice! The water seal on tubular siphons is shallow. Therefore, it is not recommended to install them where the sink is rarely used, for example, in the country. The fact is that if you do not use the sink, the water seal in it will quickly dry out, and the smell of sewage will penetrate into the apartment.

All of the listed types of siphons are available, both with and without overflows. Tips for choosing a siphon:

  • The most important thing to look for when choosing is whether the siphon model matches the type of sink. If the sink is standard, then any universal siphon model will fit it. If the sink has a special design, then you need to select special kind siphon.

Advice! As a rule, manufacturers try to equip non-standard sinks with piping, so there is no need to select a siphon separately.

  • An important characteristic influencing the choice is the throughput of the model. Here you need to take into account the water pressure, as well as the planned connection of additional devices, for example, a washing machine, to the siphon.

Advice! The larger the planned volume of wastewater, the larger the cross-section of the outlets and the siphon itself should be selected. If the throughput of the siphon is not enough, then a man-made “flood” cannot be avoided.

  • If the siphon will not be hidden by a tabletop or pedestal, then you should pay attention to its design. The choice here is quite wide, so you can always choose a model that will harmonize with the interior of the bathroom.

Sink installation

Before connecting the sink, it must be installed. Here are some recommendations for doing this job:

  • If the sink is placed on a “leg” or built into the countertop, then there are no problems with determining the height of its location. The standard console-type sink is installed at a height of 85 cm from the floor.

Advice! The height of the sink is determined for reasons of convenience, so it can be changed if necessary.

  • The sink bowl has mounting holes. Having attached it to the wall and aligning it along the marked line, mark the locations of the holes that will need to be made in the wall.
  • To attach the washbasin, use the brackets that come with it.

Sink connection

The installed sink should be connected to the sewerage and water supply systems.

Connection to sewerage

The connection is made like this:

  • The siphon outlet is inserted and secured into the drain hole.
  • A pipe is screwed to it - corrugated or rigid with an elbow.
  • The pipe is inserted into the sewer outlet. If the diameter of the sewer and outlet pipes do not match, you need to use rubber adapters.
  • After installation, you need to check its quality by releasing water from the sink.

Connection to water supply

  • First of all, you should install the mixer. Most faucet models can be installed on an already fixed sink, but in some cases, you have to do this work in advance, since the faucet is mounted from below.
  • Depending on the model, the mixer is installed on one or two mounting pins. WITH reverse side Sealing rubber bands and pressure washers are installed on the studs and, only then, the nuts are attached.

  • Then hoses are connected to it, through which water will flow. Fasteners should be tightened with moderate force so as not to overtighten the threads. The hoses are passed through a hole in the sink.
  • Now you can tighten the previously applied fastening nuts with a wrench.
  • When installing the faucet, you need to ensure that its spout is located at right angles to the wall adjacent to the washbasin.
  • All that remains is to connect the flexible hoses to the water pipes. In this case, the threaded connection is sealed with a rubber gasket.
  • The last stage of work is checking the tightness of the connections. To do this, you need to open the water and see if there is a leak somewhere. If loose connections are detected, they need to be tightened.

Installing and subsequently connecting the sink is not a very difficult job, but quite labor-intensive. At some stages, it is desirable to have an assistant present (for example, when marking and strengthening the sink). But, nevertheless, anyone House master, if desired, can handle the installation of a washbasin without the involvement of professionals.

And connects to water supply and sewerage. In order to carry out the entire volume of work with your own hands efficiently, you will need to not only spend a lot of effort, but also first become familiar with the installation technology.

You need to decide in advance on the type and type of sink, since the choice in the markets is very large. It is best to select a sink to match the intended interior, taking into account the size of the room, the mounting method and the ease of use of this plumbing fixture.

Bath and kitchen sinks are produced by many manufacturers, so they differ in the following ways:

  • quality;
  • form;
  • dimensions;
  • color.

Even before purchasing a sink, it is important to clarify for yourself what type of faucet will be installed, because the product may have 1 or 3 holes for its installation. If the faucet will not be installed in the sink, then it is better to purchase a product without holes for it.

It is quite clear that their price will also differ, but if you look hard enough, you can find a sink that will meet your requirements. Having purchased a suitable product, you need to figure out how to connect the sink to the sewer.

Installation and connection of the sink

Whatever the plumbing, the basics of installation, fastening and connecting the water supply and drainage are the same, but the methods will differ.

A corner sink is attached to the wall (it is bought to save space in the bathroom), and a standard one, in addition to the same type of fastening, can be installed in a cabinet. You can learn more about the sink mounting technology by following this link.

Methods for connecting a sink to a sewer

In the bathroom, the sink can be installed in one of the following ways:

  1. The corner sink is rigidly attached to two walls.
  2. A standard sink is mounted to one wall, but a pedestal can be used for support.
  3. Console. Such a sink is attached to the wall on brackets, while water supply and sewerage pipes are usually laid hidden in the wall.
  4. The sink can be installed in a cabinet.
  5. Installation on brackets. Nowadays there are practically no shells with this type of fastening.

The type of siphon chosen and the method of its installation will depend on how the sink was installed and secured.

How to choose a siphon

Let's start with the fact that the siphon can be metal or plastic. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. A metal siphon is more durable, but may soon begin to oxidize and lose its attractive appearance. The plastic product is not very durable, but, as a rule, it is quite sufficient for many years of using the device. Plastic does not oxidize and is cheaper, so purchasing a new device will not be noticeable for you. family budget. In addition, in some cases it is not always possible to install a metal siphon.

Sinks with overflow are most often sold complete with a siphon. If this is not the case, then you need to ask which siphon is suitable.

Types of plastic siphons

Let's look at 3 types of siphons that can be used to connect a sink to a sewer system.

Essentially, it is a corrugated pipe, one end of which is attached to the sink, and the other is connected to the sewer system. What makes it a siphon is a fixing bar, thanks to which the pipe holds the required form, serving as a siphon. Installation is completed within a few minutes, but this device has one significant drawback - debris and grease are retained on the corrugated walls more quickly, so it becomes clogged quite quickly. For this reason, corrugated siphons are installed only if they cannot be avoided.

To clean this type of siphon, it must be completely dismantled.

The bottle siphon received its name for its external resemblance to the container of the same name. It can be made of either plastic or metal. Inexpensive plastic siphons are sold disassembled, but thanks to the attached diagram they can be easily assembled. Unlike corrugated siphon, the bottle version is more difficult to install, but not so much that the work cannot be done independently.

  • First of all, the upper removable part of the siphon is connected to the sink. Modern models equipped with a decorative stainless steel grille with a hole in the center. You need to place a rubber gasket on the bottom and press it against the hole in the sink from below. The screw is inserted into the hole and screwed to the siphon from the inside of the sink. You should not clamp it too hard, as this part can be damaged.
  • Now you need to put on a nut with a conical gasket from below (thin part down) and screw on the siphon flask.
  • You need to put a nut and a wedge-shaped rubber gasket on the outlet pipe so that its thicker side faces the nut, and screw it to the side outlet of the siphon, and attach its other end to the sewer pipe.
  • All that remains is to check the assembled system for leaks by running water into the sink. When leaks are detected, the nut is slightly tightened in place.

If the leak cannot be eliminated, then you need to disassemble the connection, checking whether the gasket is installed correctly. To be on the safe side, the docking assembly must be lubricated with plumbing sealant and reassembled.

This siphon can be installed both in the kitchen and in the bathroom. It does its job well, and to clear it of accumulated debris, just place a bucket under it and unscrew it.

If the bathroom has a tulip sink, then using a bottle siphon may not be practical due to the fact that it will be very difficult to get to it later.

A tubular siphon is a curved pipe (metal or plastic) made of three parts, shaped like an elbow. IN normal conditions it also copes well with its purpose, but most tubular siphons have a slight bend in the elbow, so if the owners leave the apartment for a long period of time, the water from the elbow evaporates and there is a sewer smell in the room.

Tubular siphons are used for decorative purposes, in particular when a console sink is installed. The use is limited to the bathroom, since this kind of siphons are not suitable for the kitchen due to the fact that they quickly become clogged with fatty deposits, so regular cleaning will be necessary.

Now let's look at the installation procedure for the siphon.

  • The upper part of the siphon is fixed to the sink or screwed with a nut to the drain (depending on design features devices).
  • The elbow is screwed to the installed part, but the nut only needs to be tightened, but not clamped, since at the end it will need to be adjusted in height.
  • The next part of the siphon is inserted into the sewer pipe at such a distance that the second part of the elbow can be screwed to it.
  • Now you need to tighten the nut on the drain pipe, and then tighten the nut located on the top of the siphon.

The siphon is assembled without the use of tools. If leaks occur, you need to check the correct installation and integrity of the rubber seals.

The description of the installation of a tubular siphon does not use construction terms. This is done to ensure that the text is understandable to anyone.

In order to remove the siphon for cleaning, it is enough to unscrew 2 nuts, after first placing a container for the drained liquid.

It’s good when the sink remains in the same place where it was installed before, but sometimes situations arise when, to connect the sink, you have to make a cut into sewer riser. It’s worth noting right away that if the tie-in is done incorrectly, then leaks may subsequently occur or the sewer will often become clogged, and incorrect actions can contribute to the fact that the sewer riser begins to clog.

The best option would be to insert it without dismantling the riser. Having purchased a device for such a connection, a hole is made in the vertical riser Ø110 mm using a 57 mm crown. A sewer insert is inserted into it and secured with a nut. All that remains is to connect the sewer pipe.

  1. When choosing a siphon, if possible, give preference to a bottle-type device.
  2. Do not install a pipe siphon in the kitchen.
  3. When choosing a pipe siphon, pay attention to its volume so that it is not too small.
  4. Do not use excessive force when assembling and installing the siphon.
  5. When making a cut into the riser, make sure that it is of high quality and without burrs.

Connecting the sink to the sewer will not be difficult if you follow the recommendations listed.

Since you can connect the washbasin to the sewer yourself, there is no need to involve specialists in this work. But if you lack the skills to install plumbing and are unsure of your abilities, you can use the services of professionals. The sink should be installed at the end of the renovation. Installation technology kitchen sink and the washbasin in the bathroom is similar.

Preparing to connect the sink

Determining the installation height of a plumbing fixture (for more details: “Installation height of a sink – at what height to install it correctly”). The sink, not equipped with additional accessories, is located at a height of 850 millimeters. At this level, draw a horizontal line - it will be the guideline for installing the washbasin. The top surface of the plumbing fixture must correspond to it.
If there is a support leg or when the sink is installed in a cabinet, there is no need to determine the height of the plumbing fixtures. This parameter depends on the size of the leg or cabinet.

Marking mounting locations on the wall. Before installing the fastening system, it is necessary to make appropriate markings on the wall. The sink bowl has mounting holes for connecting the sink to the sewer.

The plumbing fixture is applied to the wall, as in the photo, its upper edge is aligned with the drawn line and the places where the holes for fasteners will be located are marked. This work is easiest to do with two people. One person should hold the washbasin near the marked line, and the second at this time can mark the places for fasteners from below. If there is a leg or a supporting cabinet, installation work is simplified - the plumbing fixtures are placed on a support and the mounting points are marked on the wall.

Installation of sink mounts

Perform this work in the following sequence:
  • holes are drilled in the wall according to the markings;
  • dowels are driven into them;
  • then special mounting pins are screwed in.
Instructions explaining how to connect a sink in a bathroom or kitchen involve the use of dowels, nuts, mounting pins and plastic inserts that are included with the plumbing fixture.

When screwing in the studs, you should pay attention to the depth of their installation, since it should allow you to hang the washbasin bowl and screw the fastening nut. This means that the part of the stud protruding from the wall should be of a length that is slightly longer than the thickness of the sink and has an extra centimeter and a half for tightening the nut.

Connecting the washbasin to the water supply

Mixer installation. When connecting a sink to a sewer in a bathroom or kitchen, you can install the faucet after attaching the plumbing fixture to the wall, but experts recommend doing this work before attaching the washbasin. The fact is that all connections to it and the fastening process are made from below (read: “How to choose a kitchen faucet - types, features, operating principles, selection rules”).

Mixer installation work is carried out in the following sequence:

  • depending on the type of mixer, one or two pins are screwed in;
  • install hoses supplying hot and cold water and tighten them using an open-end wrench. Tightening is carried out with moderate force and very carefully, taking into account that after installing the mixer on the sink, they will no longer be able to be tightened;
  • according to the washbasin connection diagram, you need to route water supply hoses through the holes in the sink;
  • On the back side of the studs, sealing rubber bands, a pressure washer and fastening nuts are put on, which are tightened with a wrench.

You should pay attention to how correctly the mixer spout is positioned - the product is installed at a right angle relative to the mounting wall or the side of the sink adjacent to it. Read also: "Which corner sink is better for the kitchen - types, advantages and disadvantages, methods of fastening."

Mounting the washbasin on the wall

The sink is secured after completing the connection to the water supply:
  • the sink with the mounted mixer is placed on mounting studs that are screwed into the wall;
  • insert plastic inserts into place;
  • Finally, tighten the nuts.
As for washbasins that have a support, their connection begins with installation on a pedestal or bedside table.

Connecting hoses to the water supply system. A gasket is placed between the tap and the sealing nut. The nut does not need to be tightened too much, since the rubber gasket usually seals well. It can be tightened after the test (after turning on the water supply). If a leak occurs at the connection, the nut will need to be further tightened. Read also: "".

Connecting the sink to the sewer

There is a procedure that determines how to connect the sink to the sewer. This work begins with the installation of a siphon. There is a nuance here: the presence of a hole in it intended for overflow protection indicates that this product must have a special pipe for overflow. Siphons come in bottle and S-shapes. Read also: "How to choose a siphon for a sink - varieties, differences, how to choose."

For kitchen sinks, you should use an S-shaped product, since the bottle siphon is more susceptible to clogging quickly and will need to be cleaned frequently.

The height of the sewer outlet under the washbasin and kitchen sink are different:

  • for a kitchen sink this figure is 300-400 millimeters;
  • The height of the sewer system for a bathroom sink is 500-550 millimeters.
The sink is connected to the sewer in this way:
  • the siphon outlet is inserted into it and secured;
  • a pipe (corrugated or rigid at an angle) is connected to it. It is very important to first securely fasten the sewer pipe to the wall;
  • the fixed pipe is placed in sewer drain. If the diameter of the sewer pipe for the sink exceeds this parameter for the pipe from the siphon, then the use of a special adapter (rubber sealing collar) will be required;
  • check all connections for leaks.

A few important notes

Before you start connecting the sink, you need to take into account some of the nuances of the work:
  • to connect the kitchen sink to the sewer, you do not need to tightly tighten all the connections, since in this case the rubber sealing gaskets can be damaged;
  • in the case when, when checking the quality of connections between the pipe and the cuff, there is a leak, then it is necessary to remove the cuff and thoroughly dry the surfaces that are to be reconnected. Then the dry cuff is lubricated with sealant and the connection is made again;
  • To connect a double kitchen sink, you should purchase a special siphon that has an outlet to two pipes.

Every home craftsman, subject to the installation rules, can connect a sink or kitchen sink with his own hands.

One of the indispensable attributes of any kitchen is the sink. It is required to the same extent as a stove (gas or electric). But installing a sink in the kitchen with your own hands is much easier than connecting a stove, if you know basic instructions and the characteristic secrets of such work.

Different sinks are needed, different sinks are important

Indeed, kitchen sinks are produced in a wide range of products, which can make your eyes wide open in a specialized plumbing store. Kitchen sinks can be divided into at least six categories:

  • Wall-mounted, mortise and overhead sinks. The mounted option is now rare; it is more relevant for communal apartments and government institutions than for modern renovation. But inset and overmount sinks compete with each other in popularity; their long-term reliability and aesthetic appeal are comparable;
  • Sinks made of stainless steel alloys, chrome-plated or nickel-plated, sinks made of natural granite or porcelain stoneware, artificial stone, acrylic and even glass (!). However, due to practicality, 90% of all models are made of stainless steel and representative porcelain stoneware;
  • Sinks are angular and standard, round, oval, square, rectangular and shaped. The more intricate the shape of the sink, the more difficult it is to give it impeccable cleanliness and maintain a sparkling shine on a daily basis. After all, the sink is used not for beauty in the living room, but for mundane household needs in the kitchen;
  • By design, a distinction is made between ordinary single sinks and sinks with two bowls (of the same or different sizes, the same or various shapes etc.). Available comfortable models with water pouring from one bowl to another;
  • According to the location of the mixer - on the wall or on the sink itself (the first option is rare);
  • According to the availability of additional options - the ability to install a water filter, outlets for connecting a washing machine, automatic valves for adjusting the drain, additional taps for connecting garden hoses, etc.

Shells from of stainless steel have gained overwhelming popularity due to reasonable price, durable functionality, compatibility with the most various repairs kitchen area and ease of sanitization.

You can check the quality of the steel alloy of the sink right in the store - an ordinary flat magnet will stick to it very firmly, but with bad steel the magnet will “fly off” at the slightest vibration.

Granite and steel sinks are available in surface-mounted and inset versions; installing a sink in the kitchen with your own hands is possible for both. However, first we need to take care of the furniture base of our installation efforts.

How to assemble a kitchen sink - install a cabinet

Recessed and overhead sinks are installed in cabinets and cabinets, with opening (less often sliding) doors in the front and an empty opening in the back. The assembly of these elements of the kitchen set has its own characteristics. The fact is that they do not have internal bulkheads; they can interfere with the connection of sewerage and water pipes. This means that there will be no additional stiffeners inside the cabinet. If a countertop sink is installed, even the countertop is missing; it is replaced by a steel sink panel.

The assembly of the sink cabinet should be much more reliable and durable than other parts of the kitchen set. It needs to be installed on special supports, because... Even with the best sealing, water leaks are possible. It wouldn’t hurt to treat the material itself with water-repellent compounds. Inside the bedside table, it is necessary to provide fastenings for tightening jumpers - they are installed after connecting the sink to the communications for the strength of the entire structure. The lintels themselves can be made from flat and thick planks, which will serve as additional mini-shelves inside the cabinet.

How to install an overhead sink on a cabinet - brief instructions

Overhead installation option kitchen sink It can be ordinary or “sliding”. In the latter case, the sink itself is equipped with curved slides on the side and front sides, and special grooves are provided on the bedside table. After you have successfully assembled a sink in the kitchen, all that remains is to slide the sink into these grooves, move the structure to the wall - and you can connect the communications.

If you use a direct overhead mounting option, you will have to seal all joints. High-quality waterproof sealant combines the properties of glue and a protective waterproof composition. The upper perimeter of the open cabinet is generously coated with this composition; all that remains is to precisely place the sink itself on top.

A large and heavy overhead sink cannot be installed using sealing adhesive alone!

Otherwise, one day it will fall inside the cabinet along with the dishes, destroying the sewer and breaking off the pressure water hoses. Negative impressions from such an accident will be available to both you and your neighbors below. As well as eliminating the plumbing collapse and renovating two rooms from the personal budget. How to install an overhead sink on a cabinet without the risk of such an incident? Using auxiliary bars or internal sheathing.

Simple overhead sinks are usually equipped with additional fasteners. Massive bars, precisely screwed to the wrong side of the cabinet, are suitable as such. It is necessary to accurately mark the bottom edge of the pre-installed (without glue!) sink and build an internal sheathing along this line. Then the sink will rest on auxiliary bars, and not on the thin end of the bedside table. The operation is similar to hidden installation of sheathing, only in the final stage is it supplemented with adhesive sealing of the joint between metal and wood.

Installing a sink in the kitchen - do-it-yourself mortise installation

Before attaching a metal sink to the cabinet using the mortise method, you need to make sure that the cabinet is strong and that the entire structure can be accurately installed in the installation opening. Experiment with moving the cabinet in advance - after fixing the sink you will only have to do this once. After connecting the sewerage and water supply, the cabinet with the sink should stand like a glove, without distortions or vibrations.

How to install a sink in the kitchen with your own hands - step-by-step diagram

Step 1: Marking

Majority mortise sinks They are sold with a ready-made template, it plays the role of a packaging container. It is enough to cut out such a template from cardboard and attach it to the countertop at the location of the sink - and the contour of the seat is ready.

If there is no template, you will have to make it yourself. To do this, it is better to use thick cardboard (for example, from a TV or monitor). After measuring the inside of the sink, transfer this measurement to the cardboard surface and cut off a few centimeters more. It is better to cut a piece of cardboard several times than to look for a new piece.

Step 2: Location

The proverb about the need to measure seven times before the first cut is very relevant for our work. You can move the finished template around the tabletop easily and freely - until you start sawing right through it. So consider how the tap will open, where the filter will be, how kitchen utensils will be positioned, etc.

The cardboard template should be traced as evenly and accurately as possible. To do this, attach it to the tabletop with ordinary tape and draw one thin line with a pencil. After which the “cardboard helper” peels off and goes into waste paper; we will no longer need it. The perimeter of the future hole with outside paste over masking tape by 8-12 cm in order to prevent damage from mechanical tools.

Step 3: Drill and saw

Yes, yes, the first mechanical tool will be a drill, not a saw. A drill with a diameter of 2 mm is selected and several closely spaced holes are drilled in the place where it is convenient to start cutting out the contour. The holes are connected into a single groove using a chisel.

It is convenient to saw the tabletop wood jigsaw. Just don’t forget to stock up on extra blades - thick tabletops are difficult to saw, and the blade is likely to break if it deviates slightly from the vertical. Take your time and move the jigsaw confidently - it is more difficult to correct a crooked cut than to immediately cut a hole along a plumb line, with a strictly perpendicular cut.

Step 4: Complete the installation

On the end of fresh mounting hole Apply sealant and insert the sink tightly. We hold the sink under load for 10 to 60 seconds (depending on the type of sealing compound). Carefully remove excess glue from the outside and inside of the sink and wait several hours until the sealant has completely hardened. We connect hoses, pipes, sewerage, install a faucet and use the new sink for your pleasure.

To connect the sink to the sewer, it is not necessary to seek help from specialists, since the work can be done with your own hands, following simple instructions and recommendations. The help of a plumber may be required in situations where there is practically no experience in carrying out similar work.

As a rule, the connection of plumbing fixtures should be made on last stage repair. The rules for installing sinks in the bathroom or sinks in the kitchen are no different, so let’s pay attention to the general points.

Connecting the sink to the sewer

At what height should the sink be installed?

An ordinary plumbing fixture in the form of a sink without any auxiliary accessories should be fixed at a height of about 85 cm. At a certain level, it is required to draw a horizontal line corresponding to the level of the highest boundary of the plumbing fixture.

If a support is provided or if the sink is in a cabinet, there is no need to determine the installation height, since it depends on the level of the support or the height of the cabinet.

Features of marking fixation points on the wall

Before installing fasteners, you need to mark the points on the wall according to a special pattern. There are holes in the sink cavity for fasteners, which must coincide with the markings. The sink is applied to the wall, aligning its upper border with the line that was previously marked on the wall. In this way, the location of future mounting recesses in the wall is determined. It is better to carry out work processes together, as it is much more convenient. During the marking process, one worker will hold the sink at the level of the mark, and the second will fix from below the places where it is planned to fasten.

Installation is greatly simplified if available support leg or closet. IN in this case The sink will be placed on a support, after which the fixation points will be marked.

Installation of fasteners

Installation of fasteners should be done as follows:

  • holes in the wall must be made according to clear markings;
  • dowels are driven into them;
  • special pins are screwed in for fastening.

In the process of connecting a sink in the bathroom and kitchen, the use of dowels and special pins is implied. You may also need nuts and plastic inserts supplied with the plumbing fixture.

installing an air break on a sink drain pipe

When screwing in the studs, you need to monitor the depth of entry. The depth at which you can hang the sink and screw the nut is considered sufficient. In other words, the stud should protrude from the wall to the thickness of the device plus one and a half centimeters for the nut.

Installation of the mixer and connection to the water supply

When performing work in the bathroom or kitchen, the installation of the faucet can also be carried out on a sink attached to the wall, but it is important to perform this process in a certain sequence and before completely fixing the sink. This is explained by the fact that all connection and fastening work is carried out from below.

The mixer should be installed in the following sequence:

  • a fixing pin is screwed into it; depending on the type, there may be two of them;
  • To supply cold and hot water, hoses are installed, which are tightened using an open-end wrench. It is important to correctly calculate the force so that after installing the mixer on the plumbing fixture you do not have to tighten it again;
  • based on the sink connection diagram, you will need to install water supply hoses that will be supplied to the holes in the sink;
  • On the reverse side, a rubber seal and a pressure washer are put on the mounting studs. With the help of such elements, the fastening nut is easily fixed;
  • Use a wrench to tighten the fastening nuts.

sink installation and connection drain pipe to the sewer

Much attention should be paid to the correct location of the mixer spout, while the device itself should be installed at an even angle in relation to the wall to which the sink is attached.

After connecting the sink to the water supply, they proceed to the process of fixing it, and the work will be carried out in the following sequence:

  • the sink with mixer is put on the mounting studs, which were previously screwed into the wall;
  • if necessary, plastic inserts should be inserted;
  • the mounting nuts are tightened.

If you plan to install a sink with a stand or cabinet, then you need to start with installing the supporting elements.

How to connect water hoses to the plumbing system?

First you need to install a special gasket between the tap and the sealing nut, but the nut does not need to be tightened too much. Due to the use of a rubber gasket, a good seal is ensured, and it is possible to tighten the nut after testing with the inclusion of water.

If a leak occurs, then you need to tighten the nut at the connection more tightly.

How to connect a sink to the sewer system?

After completing the work on connecting the sink to the water supply, you can connect the washbasin to the sewer, and connect other plumbing fixtures in the same way.

connecting a twin sink to one drain

First you need to install a siphon. It is important to pay attention to the presence of a special hole in the plumbing fixture, which is used to protect against water overflow. If there is this hole, you need to choose the siphon that is equipped with additional drainage.

Most often, you can find a bottle-type siphon on sale or in the form of the English letter S. If you need to install a sink in the kitchen, then it is more advisable to use the second version of the product, since in the first case the likelihood of the siphon becoming clogged increases.

To properly connect the sink to the sewer system, you need to perform a certain sequence of actions:

  • first, you need to insert a siphon outlet into the sink, which is then securely fixed;
  • Next, you need to screw a pipe to the siphon; it is better to choose a rigid product with an angle or a corrugated pipe;
  • the screwed pipe should be inserted into the sewer outlet. If the diameter of this outlet is larger than that of the pipe coming from the siphon, then it is more advisable to use an adapter, which is called a sealing collar. Only after these steps can the pipes be fastened;
  • Upon completion of work, connections must be checked for leaks.

How to determine a poor siphon connection?

If the siphon connection is poor, you may feel bad smell from the sink. There may also be increased humidity in the pipe leading to the siphon and the appearance of puddles under the sink.

When connecting the sink to the sewer system, experts do not recommend over-tightening the connections with a wrench, as this may damage the rubber sealing gasket.

connecting the overflow and drain from the sink

If during the process of checking the tightness a stream of water flows between the pipe and the rubber cuff, then the second element must be removed and the connection area dried. Next, the dried cuff needs to be treated with sealant and put in place.

If there is a need to connect two sinks at once, you need to get a siphon equipped with two pipes for drains.

Special Notes

Before connecting the sink to the sewer, you need to take into account some notes, namely:

  • when connecting the kitchen sink to the sewer, there is no need to overtighten connecting elements key. If you do not take this feature into account, the rubber sealing gasket may be damaged, then it will need to be changed and tightened again;
  • When checking the tightness of the connection in the area between the pipe and the cuff, a trickle of water may leak out. If this happens, then you need to remove the cuff and dry the surface of the connection area. Next, the dry cuff is lubricated with sealant and the elements are reconnected;
  • if you plan to connect two sinks to the sewer system at once, it is recommended to buy a special siphon equipped with two outlets for sewer pipes.

By following simple rules during the installation process, you can quickly and easily connect the sink to the sewer with your own hands without the help of a plumber. It is also easy to connect the water supply to the plumbing fixture.

Errors made during the installation process that can cause pipes to become clogged

  • Pipes from sinks, sinks and other plumbing fixtures must be mounted on a connection at a right angle of 90 degrees. If two devices are installed and drainage is ensured towards each other, a blockage may occur in the tee of the pipe that goes directly to fan pipe. In this case, it makes no sense to clean the pipes from the side of the sink or washbasin using a spiral or hydrodynamically using a hose. If it concerns two sinks connected next to each other, then it is clear that from one sink the hose will pass to the second sink, but it will not be able to turn in the direction of the main drain pipe. One way or another, it will be quite difficult to clean the sewer.
  • Another important mistake The discharge of the drain pipe coming from the washbasin or sink in the bathroom is too high. As a result, the process of draining wastewater into the sewer pipe becomes difficult. Many people decide to move pipes and plumbing fixtures, which include bathtubs, sinks and sinks, to another location that is not provided for in the project. If pipes are changed, the main problem may be that the outlet to the device will be rigidly tied to the outlet of the pipe in the riser, and the situation is very difficult to change. When connecting sinks and sinks, everything should be fine, since there is a certain height reserve, taking into account the fact that plumbing fixtures are suspended at a height of approximately 90 cm. But despite this, many inexperienced installers may not take into account or think through such a detail. It is easier to make a mistake with the height when connecting a bathtub and shower. Often the drain is located above the floor surface. It is quite difficult to lift a heavy bathtub yourself, so a simple solution is to install the drain pipe above the siphon outlet. Thus, the pipe is often laid without required slope, which can also cause sewer clogging.
  • You can often encounter a problem in which pipes that are supposed to be attached to the wall from the outside are not fixed correctly. Products may sag, and counterslopes and other practically irreparable cases often form. Of course, this does not in any way affect the proper functioning of the sewer system, but this feature can cause blockages, which will require frequent cleaning of the pipes.

To answer the question “How to connect a siphon to a sewer?”, you first need to understand what kind of siphon there is and what should be considered when purchasing it.

A siphon is a drainage fittings unit connecting plumbing fixtures to the sewer system. It has a curved shape and is a place for the accumulation of small debris and the formation of a water seal. The water seal prevents the penetration of gases that have an unpleasant odor from the sewer into the living space.

Types of plumbing siphons

What should you consider when choosing a siphon?

When choosing a siphon, the following are taken into account:

  • the type of plumbing fixture under which the drainage fittings will be installed, the availability of free space for installation, the location of sewer pipes;
  • the main dimensions of the reinforcement elements, which are determined by state standards, so that there are no difficulties when working with components such as Russian manufacturers, and foreign;
  • requirements for the quality of the drainage system, set out in GOST 23289–94;
  • features of the materials from which the drain system is made. Plastic can be white or black. It does not rot or rust. Copper alloys are also not subject to corrosion, but over time they become covered with a thin film of oxide and lose their appearance.

After choosing a siphon, it’s time to start installing it. Even an inexperienced person can connect the siphon with sewerage and plumbing. To do this, you must first familiarize yourself with step by step instructions doing the work.

Installing a combined drainage system under a sink or sink

  1. We put a large flat gasket on the top part of the flask-shaped assembly. Screw on the screw cap and tighten tightly. The siphon is ready.
  2. Take a corrugated pipe. At one end we install a union nut and a cone gasket. We insert it into the side hole of the siphon and tighten the nut.
  3. We install the union nut, then the cone gasket on the pipe that will be attached to the sink. We insert the pipe into the upper hole of the siphon and secure it with a nut.
  4. We put a gasket on the other end of the same pipe and screw on the plastic drain in which the nut is installed. We bring the assembled structure from the bottom of the sink to the drain hole.
  5. Holding it with one hand, press the upper part of the pipe against the sink. With the other hand, install a metal drain with a gasket into the sink drain hole. Insert a screw into the middle of the metal drain and tighten it.
  6. We insert the corrugated pipe into the sewer system.
  7. We check for leaks.

Connecting the toilet to the sewer system

The toilet outlet in relation to the floor can be located horizontally, vertically or at an angle of 45˚. The method of connection to the sewer system will depend on this.

If the toilet outlet is located vertically, then a rubber cuff is used for connection. One end of the cuff is put on the toilet outlet, and the other end is inserted into the socket of the sewer hole. Using a toilet with this type of connection allows you to completely hide the sewage system in the floor. As a result, the appearance of the sanitary room becomes aesthetically pleasing.

If the toilet outlet is horizontal and the drain outlet is located close to the sewer pipe opening, you can use plastic pipes. This method is the most economical. They are also suitable, but they are made of earthenware, porcelain or semi-porcelain. These materials are very fragile, which makes installation difficult.

Let's consider the case when the toilet flush outlet is located at an angle. To do this, use corrugation. At one end it is attached by means of an internal membrane to the outlet pipe of the toilet, and at the other - in the technical opening of the sewer pipe. Here fixation occurs due to the outer membrane.

It is convenient to use such a corrugated pipe. You can easily change the angle of the plumbing connection or give the pipe the required size depending on the distance to the wall. The pleated cuffs are flexible and high quality. Experts recommend using reinforced cuffs with a stainless steel coating. Their service life is much longer.

An alternative to corrugated pipes are eccentric sleeves. They are two pipes with offset centers, connected to each other. By rotating the eccentrics, you can achieve the required connection angle.

note

The presence of leaks indicates that the connection of the siphon to the sewer pipe is incorrect. Check each connection point. You may have taken it too long union nuts, as a result of which the gasket was deformed. Or vice versa, the nuts are not tightened enough, and then they should be tightened.

Now you know how to connect a siphon to the sewer with your own hands. You will succeed.

Installation of a sink in the kitchen and a washbasin in the bathroom is carried out approximately the same way, because the purpose of the devices is similar. Most often, the home owner can do all the work himself. There are general rules that must be followed when installing plumbing; you should definitely know them. However, if you do not have the skills to handle tools or are planning a complex plumbing installation, it is better to call a specialist.

Installing a sink in the bathroom

General scheme of work for installing a sink

  1. Preparatory work. At this stage, the places where the sink is fixed to the wall are marked, the fasteners are screwed in and the specifics of mounting the support, if provided, are determined.
  2. Connection to water supply. This work can be done when the sink is already firmly attached to the wall, but it is better to install the faucet in advance.
  3. Securing a plumbing fixture. At this stage, you need to securely fix the sink on fasteners and supports, and finish connecting to the water supply.
  4. Connecting the sink to the sewer. This is the final stage of work. It is necessary to properly install plumbing equipment and ensure tight connections. The ease of use and the presence/absence of blockages in the future depend on the correct connection of the washbasin to the sewer.

Sink or sink installation diagram

Stage #1: preparing fastenings for the sink

If selected simple model without additional accessories, and a washing machine or other device will not be installed below, then optimal height sinks – 850 mm. The plumbing fixture will be convenient to use, and you can do the installation of the siphon and connect the sink to the sewer yourself, because there will be enough space, and access to all elements of the system will remain free.

For a model with a support, the height is determined depending on the height of the leg or furniture in which it will be mounted. When it is decided where the sink will be installed, draw a straight horizontal line on the wall. The device is applied to the line, the attachment points are marked. This is difficult to do alone, so you need an assistant to hold the sink. If the plumbing fixtures are installed on a leg or piece of furniture, the task is simplified.

Using the finished markings, holes are made in the walls, dowels are hammered in and studs are installed for fastening. The depth of screwing in the studs should be such that the device is securely fixed, but at the same time freely placed on the mounts. As a rule, everything necessary details included with the sink. When installing, you need to use all of them so that there are no unnecessary parts left.

Height of sink above washing machine

If you plan to place a washing machine under the sink, then a “water lily” type model is best suited. Its drain is equipped so that there is enough space under the sink. There are two types of drain: the first is directed backwards, and the second is directed downward.

Designs of the first type leave more space for the machine, however, due to the bends, frequent blockages are possible. The downward drain is designed so that water flows normally through the pipes, but the sink will have to be placed higher above the machine. The height of the plumbing fixture is calculated individually.

To make the sink more convenient to use, it can be moved slightly forward from the wall. Then, when washing, a person will not rest his feet on the machine. This simple technique will allow you to save as much usable space as possible without compromising the comfort of use.

Stage #2: connecting to the water supply

To install the faucet, insert a mounting pin into it, then connect the water hoses and carefully tighten them so that they are secured tightly, but not excessively. Next install sealing gum, washer, nuts (they are tightened with a wrench).

The main thing is that after installation the mixer is positioned correctly: its spout should be placed at right angles to the wall on which the sink is mounted. You should also pay attention to the tightening of the nuts. Once the mixer is already secured, it will no longer be possible to tighten them more tightly, so you need to immediately do everything efficiently and check it.

Stage #3: attaching the washbasin to the wall

When the mixer is already installed on the sink, you need to attach it to the wall and complete the connection to the water supply. To do this, put the device on the prepared mounting studs, install the plastic inserts that are supplied in the kit, and tighten the nuts. If there is a support under the sink, then place it on it.

There should be a rubber seal under the tap. It is placed above the nut. The seal will not prevent you from tightening the nut in the future, so do not tighten it too tightly. If the tap leaks when checking the connection, simply tighten the connection tighter.

Stage #4: connecting the sink to the sewer

How to connect a washbasin to the sewer? This stage is final. A siphon is connected to the plumbing fixture, to which a pipe is attached - corrugated or rigid with a bend. Then the pipe is connected to the sewer. If its diameter does not coincide with the sewer outlet, use a special rubber adapter.

When the work is finished, all that remains is to check the tightness of the connections. To do this, open the taps and run them through the pipes with a dry hand or a white napkin. If everything is normal and there are no leaks, the plumbing is ready for use.

Connecting the sink siphon to the sewer

Choosing a siphon - important nuances

Normal operation of plumbing fixtures is only possible if the siphons are correctly matched to sinks and sinks. Otherwise, you may face the problem of constant blockages. There are several types of devices:

  • Pipe. These siphons resemble the letters S or U in appearance and can be collapsible or non-removable. There is a special plug at the bottom, which you can remove to easily clean the siphon. When installing a pipe siphon, it is important that the sink drain and the inlet into the sewer line coincide.
  • Bottled. The siphon gets its name from the part in which the water seal is located. It is shaped like a bottle. The siphon is connected to the sewer using a straight line or flexible pipe. The device is compact, easy to maintain: it is easy to disassemble and clean. The disadvantage is that you have to clean it often, because due to complex shape The siphon often gets clogged.
  • Hidden. This is a type of bottle siphon. During installation, only part of the structure (pipe) is visible, and the second part (bottle) is installed in the wall. Such siphons are quite expensive and difficult to install.
  • Corrugated. The siphon is made in the form of a flexible tube that is suitable for all types of sinks. Such devices are cheap and easy to install, but their inner walls quickly become overgrown with grease and soap residue, and the pipe cannot be disassembled.

Pipe S-shaped and bottle siphons

Which option is better to choose?

For installation under a kitchen sink, it is better to choose a pipe siphon in the shape of the letter S, because Sewerage elements are often clogged with grease and kitchen waste, and such a device is easier to clean. For a bathroom sink, you can choose either a pipe or a bottle siphon, since here sink clogs are less common. If access to the device is free, then even if it becomes clogged, the problem can be easily solved.

As for materials, siphons can be made of polyethylene, polypropylene, brass or bronze. The most reliable models are metal, but polypropylene models successfully compete with them due to their lower price and acceptable quality. In addition to the shape and material, when choosing, you should take into account the diameter of the neck, the presence of an overflow and the design, if the model will not be covered by a cabinet or sink leg.

When connecting the washbasin and sink to the sewer, do not tighten the nuts too much. This can negatively affect the condition of the rubber gaskets and cause them to fail prematurely. If the connections leak, the gasket can be removed, dried, treated with sealant and reinstalled, and the connection can be tightened.

Preparing for installation

Determining the height of the sink mounting

An ordinary sink, which is not equipped with additional accessories, is fixed at a height of 850 mm. At this level, a horizontal line is drawn that will correspond to the level of the top surface of the plumbing fixture.

If there is a pedestal (supporting leg) or if the sink is built into a bedside table, the height of the sink does not need to be determined - it will depend on the height of the leg or the height of the bedside table.

Marking mounting points on the wall

The sink connection diagram requires marking before installing the fastening system. The sink bowl has mounting holes at the mounting points. By placing the sink against the wall and aligning its upper edge with the line marked on the wall, mark the position of the places where mounting holes must be made in the wall. It is more convenient to do this work together.

In this case, one person holds the sink at the marked line, and the other, at the same time, from below marks the places where the fastening will be carried out. If there is a leg or a supporting cabinet, then the installation is simplified - the plumbing fixture is installed on a support and the mounting points are marked.

Installation of fasteners

Installation of fasteners is carried out as follows:

  • According to the markings, holes are drilled in the wall.
  • Dowels are hammered into them.
  • Screw in the mounting pins.

Connecting a sink in the bathroom and kitchen involves the use of dowels, mounting pins, as well as nuts and plastic inserts, which are supplied with the sink.

When screwing in the studs, you need to pay attention to the fact that the depth of their screwing would allow you to hang the sink and tighten the fastening nut, that is, the part of the stud protruding from the wall should have a length slightly greater than the thickness of the sink plus 1.5 cm for tightening the nut.

Connecting the sink to the water supply

Mixer installation

When connecting a sink in the kitchen or bathroom, the installation of the faucet can also be done on a sink already attached to the wall, however, it is recommended to carry out this work first - before fixing the sink, since all connections and fastenings are made from below.

The mixer is installed in the following order:

  1. A mounting pin or two is screwed into the mixer, depending on its type.
  2. Install hoses for supplying hot and cold water, tighten them using an open-end wrench; Tightening is carried out carefully with moderate force, taking into account the fact that after installing the mixer on the sink it will not be possible to tighten them any tighter.
  3. The sink connection diagram includes running hoses through which water will be supplied through holes in the sink.
  4. A sealing rubber band, a pressure washer and fastening nuts are put on the mounting studs on the reverse side.
  5. The fastening nuts are tightened using a wrench.

Pro tip: Particular attention should be paid to correct location direction of the mixer spout - the mixer itself is installed at an angle of 90˚ relative to the mounting wall or to the side of the sink adjacent to the wall.

Securing the sink to the wall

After connecting to the water supply, the sink can be secured:

  • The sink with reinforced faucet is placed on mounting pins screwed into the wall.
  • Plastic inserts are inserted.
  • Tighten the nuts.

Connecting a kitchen sink in the presence of a pedestal or supporting cabinet begins with installing it on the supporting elements.

Connecting cold and hot water hoses to the plumbing system

A gasket must be installed between the tap and the nut to seal. It is not recommended to tighten the nut too much. The rubber gasket usually provides good seal, in this case, the nuts can be tightened after the test is carried out, that is, after turning on the water. If there is a leak at the connection, the nut will need to be tightened more tightly.

Connecting the sink to the sewer

After the water supply is connected, you need to connect the sink to the sewer. This work begins by installing a siphon.

At the same time, it is taken into account that the presence of a special hole for overflow protection indicates the need for the siphon to have an additional pipe for water overflow. Siphons are made in both S-shaped and bottle-shaped shapes.

Pro tip: For kitchen sinks, it is recommended to use an S-shaped siphon, since the bottle siphon is prone to rapid clogging (such a siphon will have to be cleaned frequently).

Connecting the sink to the sewer is carried out as follows:

  1. The siphon outlet is inserted into the sink and secured.
  2. A pipe (either rigid with an angle or corrugated) is screwed to the siphon.

  1. The screwed pipe is inserted into the sewer outlet. If the diameter of the outlet significantly exceeds the diameter of the pipe coming from the siphon, then it is necessary to use a special adapter, which is called a sealing collar (made of rubber), and fasten the pipes well.
  2. Next, you need to check all connections for leaks.

Important Notes

Notes to consider before starting work:

  • To connect the kitchen sink to the sewer system, it is not recommended to tightly tighten all connections using a wrench, as this can damage the rubber sealing gaskets and waste time and effort.
  • If, when checking the tightness of the connections between the cuff and the sewer pipe, a stream of water oozes out, then you need to remove the cuff, dry the surfaces that are to be connected, and then lubricate the dry cuff with sealant and make the connection again.
  • When connecting a double sink, you must use a special siphon with an outlet to two pipes.

Performance simple rules, without a doubt, will help every interested owner install a kitchen sink or bathroom sink in their home without calling a plumber. You can either connect the sink to the sewer system or connect the water supply to it with the installation of the mixer absolutely independently.

A kitchen sink is one of the elements filling the kitchen workspace, giving it functionality. Therefore, the quality of further operation of the plumbing depends on the correct choice and installation of a sink in the kitchen with your own hands.

How to select and install a sink in a kitchen countertop

Before choosing a method for installing the structure, decide on the choice of model. The sink is selected based on need. For cafes, restaurants and other catering establishments, industrial-type sinks are used, differing in size and workmanship. Standard household types of structures are suitable for the house, where the main attention is given to design.

Design features

For the kitchen, the best options are those with a deep sink and a low faucet, which prevents water from splashing around. A saucepan or other large item used in the kitchen will not fit into a shallow sink, so using such a sink will be less practical. The sink should be large enough to accommodate a set of dishes that the family puts away after lunch or dinner.

Material quality

The easiest way is made of stainless steel. Among buyers budget models Kitchen sinks made of enameled steel are popular. Although products made from artificial stone, which have a large number advantages and more convenient to use.

Customer reviews of kitchen sinks posted on the Internet clearly illustrate the interest of buyers in purchasing high-quality plumbing products, even if you have to pay more money from the family budget for a sink, it is better to spend it on purchasing reliable plumbing than on other unforeseen expenses.

Kitchen sinks: variations on a theme…

There are many technologies for installing kitchen sinks. The installation method is selected based on the product you purchased and the type of design:

  • Overhead. Such sinks are considered budget-friendly, which is why they are widespread on the market. Of all the options, this is the simplest in terms of installation. The sink is installed on a separate cabinet. The only negative is the presence of gaps between the sink and the kitchen cabinet, which subsequently leads to damage to the kitchen furniture.
  • Mortise. Such a sink is installed in the countertop, having previously cut a hole in the work surface. You can do this yourself, but keep in mind that the work requires high precision. Therefore, if you do not have carpentry skills, it is better to contact a specialist about installing a sink in the kitchen.
  • Podstolnoy. This innovation appeared on the market relatively recently. The products belong to the more expensive segment. Thanks to the unique fastening - below the tabletop - they provide high-quality sealing and an impressive appearance.

What you need for a kitchen countertop

Before getting started, prepare the equipment that will be useful during the installation process:

  • sealant;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Screwdriver Set;
  • jigsaw;
  • fastenings (supplied with the sink).

Important! When starting to install a sink in the kitchen, do not forget to treat all seats with sealant before final fixing the sink. Through high-quality waterproofing, you will protect the chipboard from possible damage due to contact with moisture.

Installation of overhead sink

The overlays look attractive. Made from stainless steel. The products are mounted on a separate unit of the kitchen unit. The sink completely covers the upper part of the module. Installation is not labor intensive. To install an overhead sink in the kitchen, use a set of special L-shaped fasteners with an oblique slot. To install one sink you will need 4-5 products.

Important! Before installing the structure, install the faucet in the kitchen sink and mount the sink with the equipment already connected. It may be inconvenient to perform the steps in a different order.

How to attach a sink to a cabinet

The wizard will easily cope with the task by following the step-by-step guide:

  1. Prepare the fasteners, place them in the intended places and make notes.
  2. Where the marks were previously made on the cabinet, screw in the screws so that about 5 mm remains on the free end. 15 mm products are suitable.
  3. Cover the end side of the cabinet or drawer with a sealant, which will not only protect the furniture, but also provide additional fastening to the sink. This is a little trick in the process of installing a sink in the kitchen.
  4. Then mount the sink on the screwed fasteners, ensuring complete contact with the surface.
  5. Secure the fasteners and wipe off excess sealant. Having completed the work at this stage, you can begin connecting the plumbing to the water supply and sewerage system.

Installation of inset sinks

Installing a surface-mounted kitchen sink is not difficult. With mortise structures the situation is more complicated, but such a sink is in more close contact with adjacent surfaces, providing high level tightness, gives the tabletop a solid, neat appearance.

The issue of installing a stainless steel sink for the kitchen is easy to deal with. The only thing you have to do is cut a hole in the countertop for the sink.

Algorithm for installation in a kitchen countertop

By performing actions in the correct order, a novice master will be able to complete the task:

  1. Having decided on the location of the sink installation kitchen countertop, based design features washing, determine the shape of the future hole. To do this, prepare a cardboard template by turning the sink upside down and outlining the surface area of the sink with a pencil. If the acquired sink is complex geometric shape, then for installing a stainless steel sink in the kitchen, a ready-made template is included.
  2. The prepared template for installing the sink in the countertop in the kitchen is applied to the work surface, retreating 7-7.5 cm from the edge, and begin to cut out. They deepen 1.8-2 cm from the edge of the template, leaving support for the sides of the sink.
  3. Make a hole on the cutting line using a drill, cut out the outline using a jigsaw. The area of the tabletop to be processed is secured on the bottom side so that it does not fall during sawing and damage the edges of the kitchen countertop.
  4. Sealant is applied along the contour of the saw cut and the lower joints of the kitchen sink.
  5. Now you can begin installing the sink in the countertop in the kitchen. It is pressed with the supplied clamps.
  6. Having secured the sink and removed excess sealant, we begin to connect the communications.

Installation of structures flush or below the countertop level

A built-in sink can be mounted in different ways:

  • Flush with the tabletop, but this process is labor-intensive due to the removal of the tabletop layer under the edge. It is important here not to overdo it when working with carpentry tools, and not to set the sink too low. The depth is determined by the height of the side, adding to it the thickness of the applied layer of sealant.

  • Below the top level of the cabinet. If the installation height of the kitchen sink is below the level of the countertop, use the help of specialists. Using this method, sinks made of natural and/or artificial stone are installed. To make the fastening here you will need a special set of tools: a jigsaw, a diamond-coated saw. Such sinks often do not have a water drain. This is due to the fact that in industrial conditions complete sawing of shells made of natural and artificial stone is not carried out. To fasten products made from the material, a special mounting adhesive is used.

For those who are planning to install a kitchen sink made of stainless steel, acrylic, artificial stone or other material, this advice will not be superfluous:

  1. Replace silicone sealant. Rubber does not provide such a reliable fit, and the service life of the gasket is lower than that of a sealed filling compound.
  2. When working with products made of artificial stone or natural granite, have a partner help you so as not to drop the heavy sink and damage the product.
  3. When attaching the sink to the work surface or cabinet, screw in the screws by hand. Tool use due to excessive tension on work surface may result in damage to the structure: formation of chips, cracks, scratches.

Main installation rules

Having finished with the installation corner sink for the kitchen, start connecting communication systems. The hoses through which cold and hot water will be supplied are connected to the general water supply system.

Important! During connection, use rubber gaskets to seal the joints.

Having secured the hoses, work continues in the following sequence:

  • an S-shaped siphon outlet is introduced into the sink; bottle bottles become clogged too quickly;
  • a pipe (angular rigid or flexible corrugated) is connected to the siphon;
  • the outlet from the siphon is introduced into the sewer pipe;
  • check connections to detect leaks.

Sometimes it happens that the diameters of the sewer pipes and the siphon differ significantly. In this case, use an adapter - a sealing collar. Without a rubber or silicone gasket, the connection may leak, which will lead to the formation of mold, mildew and rapid deterioration of pipes and furniture.

Having completed the work of connecting the sink to the sewer and checking the system for proper functioning, the installation of the kitchen sink can be considered complete.

The sink is ready for first use and further use. You can’t do without a sink in the kitchen, because most... technological processes involve the use of water.
