Do-it-yourself grape press, how to make a homemade one from scrap materials. Homemade press for apples and grapes Press for squeezing grapes with your own hands

Due to frequently asked questions, I want to tell you on the pages of my blog about how I made my first screw press for grapes, with a 20 liter basket.

This was back in 2007, when I was just starting to engage in winemaking “for myself” and was not going to think about any expansion of this aspect of my work.
At that time, a lot of December ripened on my gazebo, there was Muscat Hamburg, Livadia black and many remnants of bunches of table varieties, mostly overripe, spoiled by wasps and ants. Now I remember this raw material with a smile, but then I, like many lovers, considered it quite suitable for wine. Which, in principle, is true, if you don’t delve into what kind of wine it is. 🙂

But this is the lyrics, let's move on to the constructive. Literally.

So, a screw press for grapes. What does it consist of, in my understanding?

1. Frame. The option with a screw through the basket (as I have now) seemed unacceptable to me then.

2. Screw. A screw is a screw, with a powerful, preferably rectangular, thread. With a smile, I now remember my ordeal with turners in the workshops I knew... What a people! Lazy grabbers! 🙁 There is still a picture from the workshop of our city water canal, when three turners, without letting go of the domino bones from their hands, told me how busy they were and how they had no time to turn a screw from a finished rod. They talked for 10 minutes...

3. Basket. Well, I saw the basket, in my understanding, it should be made of oak slats. Where can a resident of Dnepropetrovsk get oak? That's right, the first association is parquet! 🙂 That’s what I used on this product, the main part of the press. The basket must be tightened with hoops. Which ones? Well, stainless steel, of course! For some reason, the dealers at the local construction market then there was no stainless strip of acceptable width and thickness, but there were corners. Well, I took them. Then, oh, how I regretted it, because the basket turned into a life-threatening object... Well, more on that later.

What is the design? Not only did I make a frame, but I also wanted the press to be a self-contained piece of equipment that did not require any stands. Those. on legs. A kind of frame on legs, a nut is fixed at the top into which the screw rod is screwed, and in the frame there is a basket made of oak slats into which grapes or must with pulp are loaded.

I started with the basket.

At a parquet store I bought two dozen parquet boards, 320 mm long, 50 mm wide and 15 mm thick. At the market there are two meter-long stainless steel corners. As I already wrote, no one had a strip 0.5...1 mm thick, I had to take the corners... :)
Using a home machine, I removed the grooves from the boards with a milling cutter to reduce clogging. As I later saw, the operation was useless: with the help of a dishwasher brush, all the cracks can be washed out very easily.

Using self-tapping screws (with a stainless steel coating!) I attached them to the corners with a gap of 10...12 mm. Then, using a grinder, I cut a corner between the planks, bent the edges of the strips, and made holes in them for the bolts:

And voila! - cart is ready:

The diameter of the basket requires an insert, a piston, which will directly rest on the grape pulp. Here is the basket with it, “assembled”, so to speak: :)

The height of the basket is 32 cm, the internal diameter is 29 cm. The volume (calculated) is 21 liters.

The photographs show sharp edges on the corners. Oh, how many scratches they made on my hands when moving and washing, how many rags they tore... Until I took the grinder again and cut off all the excess right down to the boards!

The next day I went and bought a 25 mm angle, M6 bolts with nuts, and several Ø 6.2 mm drills. I assembled the frame of the press and immediately got to work:

It is necessary to place planks under the screw on the circle:

I ordered the screw in advance from a “handy” turner who was finally found, with great difficulty. Screw Ø 30 mm and 3 mm pitch, with a nut, with a welded disk with holes for fastening, cost me a considerable sum at that time: 100 UAH!

The remaining details are a piece of plywood on the stand and a plastic bowl in which I made a hole and inserted a tube - the final touches. It cost me a penny. And the total cost of this screw wine press (or wine press, which is correct? :)) was about 300 UAH. I was glad that a factory Italian similar press cost about $300. This is such a savings for the family budget! 🙂

As I understand now, that head screw would be enough for a 100-liter press! 🙂 I didn’t have a welding machine then, and at that time I had never held one in my hands, so I did everything with bolts. Well, the apartment, after all. Although it would be possible to cook on the balcony with an inverter, as I now understand.
Because of bolted connection the frame “walked” a little, which created additional problems towards the end of the spin cycle, when the effort increased. But what an indescribable pleasure it was! 🙂

Well, finally finished! 🙂

The result was a wine that was not at all embarrassing to treat to friends!

As you can see, friends, higher education You don’t need to have one to make your own screw grape press. There are 3...4 months left before the winemaking season, so whoever wants to use my experience - there is still plenty of time! Have a good harvest and happy homemade wine! 🙂

What if you don’t have a juicer, and the trees in your dacha are bending under the weight of apples that urgently need to be processed into juice? A similar problem arises for winemakers: now there are few people who want to mash juicy berries for wine by hand or trample them.

Home craftsmen offer a way out of the situation - make a mechanical press to extract juice from grapes or other fruits.

Operating principle and main elements

Manual screw juicers are made different methods using auxiliary parts - old barrels, pots, tanks from washing machine, planks, jack.

Most often, a press includes the following components: a basket, a thrust mechanism, a base, and a punch (pressing element). The basket is placed on the base with a tray underneath for receiving juice. The tray is equipped with a chute under which a juice collector is placed.

Steel wine press: design

To make a simple-looking product, you need to have skills in metalworking and turning, and own a welding machine.

  • From a stainless steel tank from an unnecessary washing machine, two cylindrical containers without a bottom are made with a diameter of 29 cm and 23 cm, both heights are 24 cm
  • Holes with a diameter of 8 mm are drilled in a small cylinder in a checkerboard pattern. The inner container (basket) is intended for loading grapes, and the outer one is for juice
  • Under the cylinders there is a rectangular stainless steel tray (30 x 50 cm) with sides and a triangular bevel (in its narrow part the side is cut off). To drain the juice, you need to make a cutout in the outer cylinder
  • The role of the punch is played by a flange with a diameter of 21 cm. It is rigidly attached to the bottom of the rod with a trapezoidal or rectangular thread - for example, to a screw from a water valve. At the top, a head with a hole for a lever is welded to it, with the help of which the thrust mechanism is activated
  • Paired with the screw is a nut welded into the U-shaped frame. The frame is rigidly connected to the base - it can be concreted into the floor or attached to the table with screws

How does a grape press work?

  1. The berries are loaded into the inner pan, then the screw is tightened with a lever
  2. When the extraction begins, the rotation is performed more slowly, controlling the release of juice into the tray
  3. After pressing the grapes, the screw is unscrewed in the opposite direction.
  4. To reduce the pressure on the sides of the press, it is advisable to perforate the thrust flange with a 4 mm drill
  5. And another tip: weld bandage rings to the basket at the top and bottom so that it is located in the center of the outer container

This design is used not only for grapes, but also for obtaining juice from apples, currants, chokeberries and even herbs. To maximize the yield of the finished product, such raw materials are crushed into crumbs or ground in a meat grinder.

The prepared pulp is wrapped in napkins made of durable fabric(for example, lavsan). Portions do not exceed 2 kg - there should be no more than three such layers. They are separated by drainage gaskets made of pairwise welded perforated stainless steel disks 2 thick (thrust rings 4 mm thick are placed between them).

Wooden apple press

The previous model is quite reliable, but it has several disadvantages. It is quite difficult to weld thin stainless steel; this requires special equipment and electrodes. You can simplify the design by making a basket from boards, maybe even parquet.

  • To get a working body with a capacity of 20 liters, you will need 20 planks 320 x 50 x 15 mm
  • They are attached with self-tapping screws to 2 strips of of stainless steel thickness 0.5-1 mm. The distance between the boards is maintained at 10-12 mm. After this, the strips are bent and their ends are connected with stainless steel bolts
  • The diameter of the resulting basket is 29 cm, height is 32 cm

  • The role of the punch is played by a wooden circle with a diameter of 27 cm. You can do without a thrust flange if you put planks under the screw
  • At the bottom, along the entire contour of the basket, a drain gutter is laid to ensure the juice exits
  • An ordinary plastic bowl is used as a tray: a hole is drilled in it and a tube is inserted there
  • Apples are finely chopped, wrapped in gauze and placed in bales in a basket.
  • Boards are laid between the layers to increase the pressure of the press while the piston is lowering. One working cycle produces 3.5-4 liters of juice
  • For the manufacture of homemade juicer Instead of a screw, use a car jack. In this case, you do not have to grind out the nut, but you need to provide a solid base against which the mechanism designed to lift the car will rest.
  • The frame wooden press works even without a basket. Metal elements it contains a screw with a nut and drainage grids that are placed between packages of raw materials. In this case, the tray should have high sides so that the juice of grapes or other fruits does not splash around.

  • Before re-use, napkins for bags are thoroughly washed in water and boiled during a long break. The pulp or berries are wrapped only in a damp cloth so that the finished product does not have an unpleasant odor
  • The pulp of apples and pears is thrown away as they are of no value. Jelly and fruit drinks are made from berry pomace
  • After preparing the juice for wine, the wooden basket is washed with a regular dishwasher brush and then scalded with boiling water.

Manufacturing instructions

Their length should be 60-70cm. The width of the device will depend on the size of the rollers. Optimal width 20 cm. The length of the rollers and the distance between the bars must be the same. For the press, it is recommended to use grooved rollers with a depth of 3 cm. The product should be directed to the axes of the rollers in a helical manner.

Rules of application

Grape press

For people who grow grapes on their plots, the issue of processing the resulting harvest is always relevant. It is usually used to make juice, vinegar or homemade wine. One of the most effective modern devices for these purposes is considered to be a grape press.

The principle of operation of the grape press

Typically this unit consists of:

  • gears;
  • rollers (2 pieces) with a corrugated surface, made of stainless steel or wood, about 25 cm long and 10 cm in diameter;
  • pens;
  • 2 containers: for crushed berries and juice.

Grooved rollers are connected to gears, which, when the handle is turned, are driven in counter motion to each other. The distance between the gears is adjusted to the size of the fruit being processed, but should be within 3 – 8mm. As a result of this movement, the berries are compressed and the squeezed juice is poured into the prepared container.

At the moment, there are many types of juice presses.

Types of presses for squeezing grapes

Depending on the effort applied, grape presses can be manual (mechanical) or electric (automated).

The operation of manual pressing machines can be based on the operation of different mechanisms:

  • jacks - in them the usual squeezing of berries occurs, placed in a loading container or a special burlap;
  • screw (screw press for grapes) - the operating principle is based on a double action: moving the berries and putting pressure on them.

In turn, automated models of grape presses differ in the drive used to create pressure: hydraulic (water) and pneumatic (compressed air).

Also, presses can be designed to work with only one type of berries or fruits (for grapes, for herbs) or be universal - capable of squeezing juice from any product.

Depending on what the main basket is made of, grape presses are: wooden (from hard beech or oak), cast iron and stainless steel.

Based on size and power, presses for squeezing grapes are divided into household (used at home) and industrial models.

For home use, small, simple manual or automated models with average power are usually chosen.

DIY grape press video

If you need to get a small amount of juice, then at home, like a grape press, you can use a mechanical auger juicer or crush the berries with a masher and squeeze in gauze. It should be taken into account that when using a hydraulic press, due to the automation of the process, a larger amount of juice is obtained than when working on a manual press.

The grape press has big amount advantages:

When buying a press for home grape processing, you should choose models without metal parts, since the juice, after interacting with iron, oxidizes, darkens and becomes unsuitable for consumption or making homemade wine.

Manufacturing instructions

For the press you should take 2 pipe stands with a diameter of about 22 mm. Next, weld the U-shaped profile to the pipes. The profile height should be chosen so that the screw nut fits freely inside. Weld a clamp to each pipe at the base. Thanks to these clamps, the press can be attached to the window sill. To construct the frame, you need to take wooden blocks with a cross-section of 4*10cm.

Their length should be 60-70cm.

DIY grape and berry press

The width of the device will depend on the size of the rollers. The optimal width is 20 cm. The length of the rollers and the distance between the bars should be the same. For the press, it is recommended to use grooved rollers with a depth of 3 cm. The product should be directed to the axes of the rollers in a helical manner.

In this case, for every 10 cm of the roll it is necessary to make a shift of 2 cm. Next, this mechanism is fixed to the frame using bearings. The rollers will rotate at different speeds, so gears must be used with different diameters.

A ladle is required to load the berries. It is desirable that it be pyramidal in shape. Install the bucket on the transverse rails of the frame. If possible, the distance between the wooden ladle and the roller should be a minimum of no more than 1 cm.

It is necessary to install a vessel at the base of the press where the juice will accumulate. For normal compression of fruits between the rollers, the gaps should be controlled. The gaps between the crushing rollers allow you to leave

Rules of application

Once manufactured, the press can be placed and secured to any support. Before use, the grape crusher must be placed on a flat surface and secured well.

The manual crusher must be installed on a container to collect pulp. To do this, you can use barrels or tanks made of plastic or stainless steel. To obtain juice, berries are loaded into the loading ladle. From there they are poured onto windrows. A strong napkin must be placed at the bottom of the basket, from which the pulp is then removed.

When rotated, the berries are crushed and then turned into a mass like a puree, from which juice comes out. Before loading the berries into the receiving bucket, they are removed from the bunch and washed well. There is no need to remove the skin from the berries; thanks to it, the juice has a pleasant aroma.

After processing the crop, the device should be thoroughly washed and dried to avoid rotting. Homemade press greatly simplifies the work of processing berries, especially when harvested is about 200 kg.

Video about the principle of operation of the grape press:

True, the press and cylinder turned out to be fairly smeared with some kind of technical lubricant - either grease or something else. And, of course, before pressing the juice, it was necessary to wash it thoroughly.

Lowering the piston to the very end, when the handle of the press touches the body, you realize that this is not the very bottom. That is, what remains is a “pancake” of grapes 4.5 cm high. And in these 4.5 cm there are even whole berries.

Do-it-yourself wine press for grapes

And there is a lot of juice left. We tried to take this “pancake” apart with our hands and squeeze it out again. But even after the second squeeze, we simply squeezed out another half liter of juice with our hands, wrapping the remains in gauze.

How to make a grape press with your own hands?

Today, several methods are known for making and growing grapes both at home and in industrial conditions. However, what remains unchanged is the technology for squeezing fresh juice from berries. It uses a special grape press, regardless of the location and type of production. Of course, in industry its size and productivity are much larger homemade options, however, purchasing such a device for home purposes is simply impractical, because for 10 or even 50 liters of wine, devices made by yourself are quite sufficient. But absolutely anyone can make a grape press with their own hands, while spending a minimum of money, time and effort on the work.

Making a roller crusher

As is known, this device is able to extract all useful substances, vitamins and mineral salts from fruits. Therefore, for high-quality crushing of berries, it is necessary to install a roller crusher. You can make it using available tools. All you need to make is this wooden frame, loading bucket and 2 rolls mounted in bearings on the frame. And, of course, don't forget to make a handle for rotation. Basically, the main material here is wood, so no welding machines We will not use other complex devices.

Details about materials

In order to make a frame, you need to prepare several wooden blocks approximately 60-70 centimeters long with a cross-section of 10x4 cm. In this case, the width finished device will depend on the size of the rollers. Optimal size the average is approximately 15-20 centimeters. In this case, the distance between the transverse bars should be equal to the amount roll lengths. When calculating this distance, add another 10 cm to the resulting value. This way you will get the most optimal and practical design in size.

Making a grape press with your own hands: installing rollers

As for these tools, they need to be made grooved. The depth of each reef should be about 2-3 centimeters. The finished products must be directed to the axes of the rolls in a helical manner, making a slight shift within 2 centimeters for every 10 cm of the roll. The resulting mechanism should be mounted on the main frame, that is, on a home grape press, and movement should be ensured using bearings. Remember that the rollers will rotate on the axle at different speeds, so gears must be used with different diameters. Make the gear ratio 1:2. If the gears are the same size, you will have to do this work with rollers, reducing their dimensions for a given gear ratio. Only then will your homemade grape press be able to provide different speed rotation for berries.

Next you need to secure it over the rollers wooden ladle pyramidal shape and handle. The latter must be attached to one of the sides of the mechanism. When making a grape press with your own hands, do not forget to install a vessel in its lower part to receive the pressed raw materials. Make the gap between the rollers manageable to ensure normal compression of the fruit depending on their size. That's it, at this stage the grape press has been successfully made with your own hands!

We bought it in Ukraine, according to an advertisement. It is popularly called a grape press. For ourselves, we defined it as a press for obtaining juice from grapes, or simply a press for grapes. The advertisement for the sale of the press was given by a man who, in Soviet times, did his own tinkering at the factory, like many in those days.

The design is simple: hand press, a stainless steel cylinder with holes and a tray with a groove through which the juice flows.
True, the press and cylinder turned out to be fairly smeared with some kind of technical lubricant - either grease or something else.

Grape presses: rules for selection and self-production

And, of course, before pressing the juice, it was necessary to wash it thoroughly.

We asked the seller what the press is smeared with and what is the best way to wash it off, since we want to use it to obtain a food product. The seller replied that he himself probably did not know what kind of lubricant was used. For cleaning, I advised taking technical gasoline “Galosha” for degreasing, detergent for Fairy type dishes and alcohol.

We didn’t take risks with gasoline; we were afraid that it would be difficult to wash later, so we washed it right away with Fairy, and then with industrial alcohol.
The most difficult thing was to wash the threads on the press, which can only be done with a fine brush.

Washed and dried. Carefully secured it to the table. And they started squeezing the juice.

And since we did not have instructions for its use, and, unfortunately, the Internet was not “at hand,” we mastered the nuances in practice.

The first problem was that the piston came off the press; it took a long time and with difficulty to strengthen it, because the hole in the piston for attaching it to the press was not centered. And how they put him on the press in the first place is unclear.

The second problem is to secure it so that the press does not move during operation and does not fall. By the way, it weighs more than 10 kg. The cutouts for the bolts on the base are very small.

Well, these problems have been solved. We drilled a hole in the center of the piston and secured it to the press. We attached the press to the table, placing washers under the screws. True, they had to make holes in the table, but they didn’t come up with another option.

And they began to squeeze the juice from the grapes.

The effort, as it turned out, needs to be made unfeminine. At the same time, juice splashes through the holes in the press cylinder when the grapes are crushed, and even grape seeds shoot out, falling into the pan with juice.

As we found out later, to prevent this from happening, you need to put the grapes in a canvas bag and then squeeze the juice out of it.

Lowering the piston to the very end, when the handle of the press touches the body, you realize that this is not the very bottom. That is, what remains is a “pancake” of grapes 4.5 cm high. And in these 4.5 cm there are even whole berries. And there is a lot of juice left. We tried to take this “pancake” apart with our hands and squeeze it out again. But even after the second squeeze, we simply squeezed out another half liter of juice with our hands, wrapping the remains in gauze.

The press could not stay on the screws and came off after some time. I had to re-screw it and make more holes in the table.

And since we pressed the juice on the street, about three dozen bees flocked. I had to stop and clean everything up. We continued when the bees lost interest in us. Again, not for long.

But in the end they came to the conclusion that if you adapt and take into account all the features, you can press the juice quickly and good quality. And make a grape juice press your good friend.

A large amount of grape harvest cannot be eaten immediately or stored in bunches for a long time, so there is a need for its processing. Depending on the variety, homemade juices are pressed from the berries, wine is made, or they are put in vinegar. All of these drinks require chopping the berries and squeezing the liquid out of them. For these purposes, they purchase in farming press. It can be purchased at finished form or do it yourself. Its operating principle is quite simple, so the diagram self-assembly understandable even to novice gardeners. The second name of the tool is a crusher.

The principle of operation of the grape crushing apparatus

As already noted, a grape press is used to squeeze juice out of berries. Next, the liquid is pasteurized and poured into jars or vinegar is prepared on its basis.

Mechanism components

  • frame;
  • a tray into which liquid flows;
  • the pressing element itself;
  • barrel;
  • fine mesh;
  • spin-intensifying screw.

In addition to the fact that the crusher squeezes juice, it can also be used to ferment various drinks. Also, the part that presses and the food material are practically not in contact, therefore the heating is minimal, which ensures the safety of all the beneficial substances in the drink.

For small volumes, the berries are processed manually, but with a press, the process goes much faster and the gardener has more free time.

Types of grape squeezer: which one to choose

Absolutely all presses are made from environmentally friendly pure materials , without application chemical substances for connecting or processing parts. In this regard, there are two options for the material from which the press is designed: wood and metal. Devices are also classified by power and volume. Depending on the relevant characteristics required for crop processing, farmers choose one or another machine.

How to build trellises for grapes is described.

What material to make a device for home use from?

Wooden presses have a much shorter service life, unlike metal ones, but are considered safer, since there is not even minimal oxidation of the product.

Wooden: oak, apple, beech, linden, ash

In a wooden press, absolutely all parts are made of natural material As a rule, hard varieties are taken for production: apple, oak, linden, beech or ash. These presses require careful care and drying after each use. This is due to the fact that bacteria accumulate in the pores, which can adversely affect freshly prepared juice.

Before each use, farmers inspect the basket for damage to its integrity, the appearance of mold or other growths. And only after that he gets to work.

Homemade metal appliances: stainless steel, cast iron

For metal structures choose a non-corrosive metal: cast iron or stainless steel. These materials do not oxidize and, accordingly, do not react with aggressive juice due to the large amount of vitamin C and do not change the properties of the drink.

Such presses are durable and odor-neutral. They are produced in two formats: industrial use and household.

By volume and power (industrial, household)

Differences in power and volumes do not depend on the purpose of the press (domestic or industrial). Devices with a reinforced motor are successfully used both in private farms with large output and in factories.

Pressing units vary in volume, ranging from 1 liter of loading to 80 kg.

The more powerful the design, the more expensive the press will cost.

Making a wine juicer with your own hands

The press is quite simple in nature, especially when it comes to the screw format. At home, it can be made almost from scrap materials.

  1. 2 pipes with a diameter of 18 or 25 mm in cross-section, welded to metal profile in the shape of the letter P. Its height is conventional, but selected in such a way that the key nut on the screw can be placed freely.
  2. A compression mechanism is welded at the bottom, which will fix the required position. A clamp will help attach the finished press to a horizontal working surface.
  3. The frame is made from bars 5*10 mm or 4*10 mm and approximately 70 cm long.
  4. Device width depends on the length of the grooved rollers. It is best to count on a dimension of 20 cm, while the rollers and bars should protrude at the same distance, and the depth of the grooves should be at least 2.5 cm.
  5. The structure is directed helically with a shift of 2 cm to the rollers and secured every 10 cm to the frame using a bearing.

The rotation speed of the device is different, therefore the gears are attached to different calibers.

In addition to the main part, which crushes the berries, you need a ladle or bucket with a narrowed base. It is also installed on the frame, at a distance of 1 cm or more from the pressing mechanism.

A container for liquid is attached below and the process can begin. Thanks to the gaps between the rollers, the seeds slip into the filter compartment intact, so the drink turns out sweet, rich and without bitterness. Will it be possible to eat grapes with seeds?

The basket can also be made of metal. In this case, stainless steel gaskets are used to separate the juice into portions.

Materials for a drum press machine according to Italian drawings

Before you start work, you should understand what materials will be useful for the future press according to an Italian or other drawing. They need to be placed all at once on the desktop to speed up the design process.

  • wooden beams 4*10 mm or 5*10 mm;
  • rolls;
  • 2 mm stainless steel discs;
  • pipes with a diameter of about 25 mm;
  • U-shaped profile;
  • fastening tool, welding machine;
  • bearings.

In addition to the above, you will need devices and tools for working on wood and metal.

Rules of application for manual or electric squeezing of grapes

There are several rules thanks to which the press will produce the largest amount of high-quality juice and last longer.

  1. The selected crusher is firmly fixed to a stationary, horizontal and level surface to prevent displacement.
  2. At the bottom there is a container for the cake (any tank, plastic bucket, pan).
  3. Berries are loaded into the ladle in portions, making sure that the rollers have time to fully process the material.
  4. The cake is partially formed in the basket, so a coarsely woven napkin is placed on the bottom.
  5. After finishing work, the press is washed and thoroughly dried. If cracks occur, they are immediately sealed with wood putty.

There is no need to remove the skin from the berries, as this is what gives the aroma and deep aroma to the drink when received.

Winemakers who are professionally involved in grape cultivation divide it into 2 levels:

  • gravity-fed fruit juice;
  • using a press.

In the first case, the liquid is the most valuable, as it is rich in taste and beneficial substances. In the second option, you can squeeze out the juice in 2 stages, that is, recycle the pulp. For varieties such as, recycling is not recommended, since the taste characteristics are significantly affected.

The cake is pressed again no more than 3 times. On the basis of this, less elite varieties of alcohol are prepared, relative to the first pressing.

This video talks about presses and squeezing grapes with your own hands.

conclusions

A grape press is necessary, even for home internal use. It has undeniable advantages over juicers and juicers.

  1. The press can be used to process (squeeze, press, produce) the cake up to three times.
  2. Making it yourself takes little time, and the materials for it are always available in the household.
  3. There are 2 types of the most popular presses (screw, manual, pneumatic, washing, electric): made of wood and metal (stainless steel).
  4. For homemade wooden structures choose firm, noble varieties of garden and ordinary trees: apple, oak, linden, ash or beech. When producing from metal, the choice is made of materials that are not subject to corrosion: cast iron, stainless steel.

A grape press is indispensable tool in matters of winemaking. Grape presses are widely used in farming and industrial facilities. Only the difference in the power and capabilities of the pressing equipment is impressive.

  • A grape press is necessary to obtain high-quality must. The more correctly the fermentation process proceeds, the better the quality of the wine. Or grape juice, which does not require fermentation;
  • The task of grape presses is to separate the grape pulp from the must and perform the process of squeezing the pulp juice;
  • The peculiarity of squeezing is that squeezing helps to obtain the maximum amount of juice without crushing the skin, ridges or seeds of the grapes;
  • A juice squeezing press consists of gears, rollers with a grooved surface and a pair of containers. Grapes are pressed in one container, and portions of juice are supplied to the second;
  • The rollers are fixed on the gears. By turning the hand press using a handle, these two elements carry out forward counter movements;
  • A special mechanism helps regulate the gap between gears and rollers. This makes it possible to set up a grape press with your own hands to squeeze juice from other fruits, berries or vegetables;
  • The minimum gap is 3 mm, and the maximum is 8 mm;
  • A press, regardless of whether it is manual, screw or hydraulic, is a pressing device that is complemented by a plate and a basket. This is where the juice and pulp are separated. There is a special space between the disks with a kind of drainage. Through it, pure juice is removed from presses for grapes, apples or other fruits;
  • Under the press there is a screw that removes all the pressed products;
  • The result of squeezing with grape presses is to obtain juice that is directed into a separate container after pressing.

Spin stages

Almost all pressing devices for fruits, apples and obtaining juice from them are characterized by a standard pressing process. It consists of going through three main stages:

  • The wort is separated by gravity;
  • Next, the winemaker receives the first pressure wort;
  • This is followed by second and third pressure wort.

Kinds

When choosing a grape press, you should think about which type of equipment for squeezing fruits, and grape berries in particular, is best for you. After analyzing the drawings of some types of devices, some will decide to make a homemade grape press. There is nothing complicated in this process.

The factory presses themselves, such as Bogatyr or its analogues, can be divided into several types.

  1. Mechanical. The device consists of a wooden basket and a cast iron frame. Affordable price, compact size and good performance indicators. Mechanical presses for fruits and apples can be considered optimal solution for home winemaking, when we're talking about about small volumes of fruit processing. The work is based on physical effort.
  2. Electrical. Here we highlight the hydraulic and pneumatic press. The device is made of high quality stainless steel, which helps protect against oxidation and rust. Such designs do not have a negative impact on the taste characteristics of pressed grapes, apples and fruits. Hydraulic Press works on the basis of a hydraulic pump (water), and a pneumatic press creates pressure by pumping air into another type of pump. All pumps are powered by electricity. Because of this, hydraulic and pneumatic fruit and apple presses are categorized as electrical devices. Important distinguishing feature— increased equipment performance.
  3. Universal. Many winemakers are thinking about how to make a press for grapes and other types of fruits in one device. Factory universal presses are in impressive demand. This is due to the fact that in addition to the grapes themselves, they can squeeze juice from apples, various fruits and even vegetables. This expands the possibilities for making wine and juices.

Manufacturing materials

You can buy yourself an excellent 5-liter Bogatyr unit and use the capabilities of this compact device at home. But for many buyers, the material from which the press is made plays a big role.

The two options that are in greatest demand are:

  • Wood. It is considered the most environmentally friendly and safe option. But in practice, after each squeeze of apple or grape juice, wooden press requires careful care, washing and disinfection;
  • Metal. Made from cast iron or stainless steel. Metal is distinguished by its hygiene, ease of maintenance and durability. At the same time, the metal does not transfer extraneous odors and tastes to the block or fruit juice. The same Bogatyr is metal press, although intended for domestic use.

Do it yourself

It is not uncommon for a full-fledged screw or other type of press to be replaced at home with Food processors and juicers. You can squeeze juice from apples or grapes with them, but the result will not meet your expectations. The main problem with juicers and combines is that after processing the fruit, the juice does not clarify well or a lot of sediment is formed.

You can purchase a factory screw unit, which will have a positive effect on the results of the work done. However, many people do not want to spend money on something that they can easily assemble with their own hands.

Based on the drawings, photos and video instructions, you can assemble an excellent homemade press and squeeze out almost the entire harvest on it.

We offer you a fairly simple option for assembling a grape press, which will consist of scrap materials.

  1. Prepare any container suitable in volume and material into which the berries will be loaded. The best option- This is the drum of the washing machine. You need to make holes in the walls with a drill, acting in a checkerboard pattern.
  2. Prepare a container that is slightly larger than the washing machine drum. This is a cylindrical container without a bottom with additional holes at the bottom.
  3. Insert the smaller container into the larger one, and place a small one between them. wooden block. This will give you the required clearance.
  4. Make or find a U-shaped frame. Place the working part on the crossbar of the frame. This can be a thick pancake made of stainless metal or cast iron. This pancake, complete with a lever, is fixed by drilling a hole in the frame.
  5. Place two containers in a large bowl made from food grade polymers. Drill a hole in it, where you then connect the hose. The grape juice will flow out through this hose.
  6. A U-shaped horizontal bar concreted in the ground will serve as the basis for the working mechanism. But the base is mounted on a structure consisting of a food basin and two cylinders with holes inserted into each other.
  7. The hose from the basin is placed at the other end into a container where the squeezed juice will accumulate.
  8. Load the grapes into the drum and cover with a wooden or stainless steel shield. A cast iron pancake is lowered on top of it, controlling the pressure with a lever.
  9. The juice released when pressing grapes or other fruits gradually flows through a hose into a storage container.
  10. It is recommended to press the pulp no more than 3 times.

Extra virgin juice is ideal for wine or a high quality fruit drink. The second and third spins are simple alcoholic drinks. To achieve good quality wine without wasting the juice of the 2nd and 3rd pressings, simply mix them with the first pressing juice in certain proportions.
