How to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows? Installing blinds with your own hands How to hang blinds on plastic windows

There are many types of light-protective canvases, but they have common features. All of them consist of a metal pipe-roller, or a rod, on which a fabric is wound: bamboo or cotton material. The length is adjusted by means of a chain, which is attached to the rotating mechanism on one side of the roll.

Usually at the bottom of the curtain there is a steel or wooden plank-weight, which protects it from deformation, allows it to hang evenly and fit snugly against the glass. The latter is achieved with a pair of small magnets that are glued to the bottom of the frame and attract the weighting agent if it is metal.

You can go a more complicated way and pass a fishing line through the guides, which will hold the roller shutter when the wind fluctuates and opens in the "window" mode. It must first be threaded into the upper fasteners several times so that it does not pull out when pulled. Unwind it to the end, put it in a special eyelet on the weighting bar. Fasten small corners with holes for fishing line at the bottom of the frame. Stretch it there, tie it, cut off the excess.

Sometimes manufacturers install a spring inside the shaft. In this case, it is not necessary to touch the cord with your hands to open or close. It is enough with a little effort to pull the plumb line, located on the bottom bar.

Dimensions

They are different. The length can reach 1.5 m. The standard width is 50 cm, but there are models of 30 cm, and 150, and more. Very small roller blinds, designed literally for one double-glazed window, are called "mini". Sometimes they are hung in company with ordinary curtains, especially if you need to combine two tasks: and shade the room as much as possible.

Kinds

open

They are also called classic. The shaft on which the roll is wound is visible to everyone, but this does not spoil the interior. Moreover, there is a significant plus. The crossbar can be shortened with the right tools. The canvas itself can also be adjusted to fit the opening if you miscalculated with the dimensions or simply did not find the ideal option in the store.

Open structures are most often installed on small ones. For those that can be hung without drilling the frame, PVC clips are provided on both sides of the upper edge, they have holes where both ends of the metal rod are then inserted. These clamps are held on fasteners, which are pre-drilled to the wall with screws.

Models that require mounting directly on the frame can be mounted either on self-tapping screws or on Velcro. The first option is the most reliable, but not suitable for everyone: the guarantee for double-glazed windows flies or you don’t want holes to remain on the crossbar after removing the decor. The second method is especially good for "mini" type products, which, due to their low weight, can be held for years on corner clamps that are put on an open sash.

Cassette

They, like open analogues, come in different sizes, including "standard" and "mini". You can also fix them with self-tapping screws or double-sided tape. They differ from the previous category in appearance: the textile roller is hidden in a compact plastic box located on the frame. Yes, and they are not attached to the wall above the opening - this is clean. They are more expensive than the first type, but they look neater.

Cassette varieties, both with and without a spring, are mounted only on glazing beads, and not on the entire opening. They are particularly demanding on measurement accuracy. Otherwise, the cassette will not fit or the rod will not be enough to “hook” on the opposite edges of the sash. Please note that when unfolded, they cover about half of the window sill. Therefore, if you have it occupied by flowers or other decor, it is better to choose a system that is installed above the opening. Otherwise, it will not work completely.

Degree of transparency

The material for the manufacture of roller shutters most often becomes a dense fabric. It can be cotton, synthetics or mixed materials. Transparency varies depending on the fabric. On this basis, three types of roller shutters are distinguished, they are presented in the table.

Relatively recently, an interesting variety has appeared, with the ability to control the degree of illumination of the room. It is called a day/night or zebra roller blind. These are two panels, each of which is assembled from strips of transparent and opaque fabric. The strips move one relative to the other, either completely darkening the room, or opening up access to the rays of the sun.

Materials for the manufacture of roller shutters are impregnated with special compounds, therefore they repel pollution, do not attract dust, and are not electrified. Finishing panels can be very different. Especially popular recently is photo printing, which allows you to create very interesting solutions for interior design.

Roller blinds for plastic windows

Installation sequence:

  1. We outline the location of the fasteners.
  2. We drill holes, put the side clamps in place, fix them with self-tapping screws.
  3. We put the roller with the cloth in place, close the plugs.
  4. We prepare the guides for installation, remove the protective tape from the self-adhesive layer. We lower the curtain by 20-25 cm.
  5. We put the canvas under the guides and carefully glue them into place.
  6. We install limiters on the chain mechanism or a decorative weight on the weighting bar. We check the functionality.

Installing cassette models

  1. Mark up first.
  2. Using a level, correct the "horizon" of the location of the roller shutter.
  3. Drill holes at the marked points.
  4. Using self-tapping screws at the top of the double-glazed window, screw the box with the roll rolled up inside it.
  5. If you do not want to make holes, use tape at least a millimeter thick. But first, cast a spell over the markings so that the box hangs evenly.

Mounting roller shutters "mix"

Models that can be opened not only from below, but also from above are becoming very popular. We'll show you how to hang them. Measurements are made along the outer edges of the glazing beads: both in width and in height. This will be the perimeter of the fabric cut, and the whole product will be 26 mm wider due to the box. The package includes a fishing line that needs to be cut in two.

Mounting sequence

  1. We stretch the end of the fishing line into the hole of each fastening and tie it with a double knot.
  2. With self-tapping screws we fix all four fasteners (a pair of lower and upper ones) to the glazing beads.
  3. We start the fishing line first in the lower bar, then in the upper one.
  4. We pass the free ends of the cable into the holes of both upper mounts.
  5. We tighten the fastener with a screwdriver, pulling the fishing line a little.
  6. We stretch the fishing line to the lower mounts and fix it there.
  7. Trim off excess cord.

That's it, the cloth cassette can move up and down, revealing the street panorama the way you want. The box can also be made stationary by screwing it to the frame through special holes. Whatever installation option you choose, remember that the control chain must be removed away from children's hands if there is a child in the house. Set the holder for it at such a height that the baby cannot reach it. We suggest watching a video on how to fix rolled

Rolleta - the good decision for any interiors. They are practical, beautiful and allow you to effectively adjust the degree of illumination of the room. Night/day roller blinds are especially good for this. For those who do not want to give up traditional curtains, we can advise you to use them complete with rolls. Very interesting and functional combinations are obtained.

Good afternoon everyone!

Today I would like to talk about installing blinds on a plastic window. The opinion that window openings in residential premises should be covered with textile curtains is a thing of the past.

Blinds are diverse and functional so much that they will give odds to any curtains and tulle. Before buying a design of a certain color or size, you need to think about how it will be located on the window and how you can install it.

  • vertical or horizontal slats,
  • rolled or pleated,
  • fabric or plastic - regardless of these indicators, blinds can be mounted using power tools and without it.

It is important to choose the location option:

  1. in the window opening
  2. above him
  3. or directly on the window sash.

Each of these cases should be considered separately.

Blinds are the most practical way to decorate windows. Easy to install and low maintenance blinds are very popular. Due to the variety of types and colors, they will harmoniously fit into any room and complement the interior of the room. In this article, we will consider the types of blinds and how to install them on windows. We will learn how to fix blinds on our own in different ways.

Kinds

In building stores, eyes run wide from a variety of colors and textures of window decor. How to choose the right blinds and install them correctly? First of all, let's figure out what types of blinds exist.

  1. Horizontal blinds. The most practical, close the window tightly and protect from light and prying eyes.
  2. Vertical blinds. Most often they are installed in offices or used to decorate blind windows, as they make it difficult to open windows.
  3. Roller blinds. Close the window very tightly. They can become an independent design of a window opening.
  4. Cassette blinds. They consist of a special box, which is installed on the frame. Do not prevent windows from opening.

How to choose

When choosing blinds, start from the functional purpose of the room and the general style of the room. Blinds can be fabric, plastic, aluminum, bamboo, etc.

The variety of colors and textures will allow you to choose the decor that suits your room. Be sure to measure your window before purchasing. This will allow you to choose the product of the appropriate size.

How to install blinds yourself

So, the blinds are bought. Do not rush to call the installation wizard. You can quite cope with this task yourself. In addition to acquiring a useful skill, installing blinds can be an interesting family pastime.

Blinds are installed in three ways:

  1. In the overlay. The product is attached at the top of the opening, and closes the entire window to the window sill or below.
  2. In the window opening. Blinds are mounted in the window opening closer to the window. Also close the entire window to the windowsill.
  3. For each sash separately. The most practical way. The blinds are attached directly to the sash, thereby allowing the sashes to be opened or the window to be ventilated without lifting the blinds.

Note!

When taking measurements, you need to make an allowance depending on the type of installation. If you are going to fasten the blinds overlay - add 10 cm to the width and height of the window opening. You will install blinds in the window opening - the height of the opening in its pure form, the width - minus 1.5 cm. When installing on each sash - the width of the sash is minus 2 cm, the height of the sash is minus 3 cm.

Each type of blinds has its own installation features. Next, we consider separately the principles of fastening products of each type.

Installing horizontal blinds

Usually, all necessary fastenings are included with horizontal blinds. Armed with a screwdriver, we proceed to the installation. They are installed in the window opening or on each sash separately.

  1. To fix the blinds to the window, measure the desired distance and mark the places where the top bar will be attached.
  2. Using a screwdriver, drill holes and attach the corners that will hold the top bar.
  3. Attach the plank to the corners. First on one, then on the second. You should hear a click when attaching.
  4. Dissolve the fixed canvas down, mark the points where the bottom bar will be attached.
  5. Install the bottom bar in the same way as the top bar using the corners.

Installation of vertical blinds

Vertical blinds consist of a cornice with clamps that regulate the sliding / sliding and slats - a canvas that closes the window.

The kit includes all the necessary fasteners, as well as detailed installation instructions. This type of blinds is installed overlaid.

  1. Attach the cornice with clips to the ceiling. You can use the same screwdriver to fix the eaves.
  2. Insert the slats into the eaves. Each part of the canvas must be mounted separately. To do this, insert each strip into the corresponding latch, wait for a characteristic click.

Installing roller blinds

Roller blinds have the same mechanism as horizontal blinds and are installed in the same way. It is most convenient to mount roller blinds directly on the sash, then they will not interfere when opening windows. If you need to fix them in a window opening, it is better to use additional brackets, because the window handle protrudes several centimeters. Without brackets, the handle will stick out from under the canvas and spoil the overall look.

Installation of cassette blinds

Cassette-type blinds are a ready-made box with a mechanism that is attached to the window frame. Installation is quite simple.

  1. Attach the top bar to the canvas with screws.
  2. Then glue the side guides (usually on an adhesive basis) onto the sash vertically.
  3. Expand the canvas, adjust the borders of the upper and lower positions of the canvas.
  4. Install all accessories.

Useful advice!

Blinds have a clear geometric shape, so carefully measure and calculate the attachment points to avoid asymmetry and unnecessary holes.

How to fix blinds on plastic windows

What to do if you need to fix the blinds to the sash, but you can’t drill plastic windows? In this case, you can install blinds using brackets. The devices are attached to the frame, and the supporting structure of the blinds is mounted on them. You can fix the bracket to the window frame using:

  • double-sided tape;
  • hook on the upper part of the frame of the opening sash.

This method will allow you to securely fix the product, and preserve the integrity of the metal-plastic profile.

To properly install blinds with your own hands, it is important:

  • decide on the type of blinds you want to purchase;
  • choose the best installation option;
  • take measurements of the window, take into account the necessary margin;
  • when installing, strictly observe the dimensions of the product;
  • carefully mark the drilling points;
  • follow the instructions included in the kit.

How to take measurements

How to install blinds

Use dowels and screws that are appropriate for the fasteners and the material of the wall or ceiling to which the blinds will be attached.

Note!

Before installing fasteners, check if the folded blinds prevent the window from opening.

We advise you to carefully look at whether window handles, flower pots (and other "foreign" objects on the windowsills) will interfere with the opening and closing of the blinds and the rotation of the slats (windowsill, radiators, etc.)

How to install horizontal blinds

  1. Measure the same distance from each edge of the window.
  2. Drill the wall and insert a dowel suitable for the wall material (concrete, plaster, etc.) into it, then screw the fixing with screws.
  3. Using a level and ruler, mark the location of the second fastener. Screw the second fastener in the same way as the first.
  4. When installing horizontal blinds, it is necessary to use an additional intermediate fixing if the width of the blinds exceeds a certain distance. To attach vertical blinds with a width of more than 1.6 m to the ceiling, you need to install 3 mounting brackets.
  5. Place an additional fastener 10 cm away from the control cord (this is where the louver mechanism experiences the most stress).
  6. Fasten blinds to mounts

Cutting horizontal blinds to width

  1. Lay the folded blinds on a horizontal surface and measure from each side the part that needs to be cut off. It is necessary to cut off equal parts of the blinds on the left and right.
  2. Cut off the cornice and rail. Be sure to cover the slats so as not to damage them.

Height cutting blinds:

  1. Remove the parts that are under the lower cornice at the bottom of the blinds in such a way as to release the cord.
  2. Untie the knots to free the slats.
  3. Remove excess slats to achieve the required blind height.
  4. Align the blinds by inserting the bottom curtain rod into the last link.
  5. Cut off the free ends of the cord, tie knots and put the lower cornice pieces in place.

Roller blind cutting

  1. Using a hacksaw, cut off the tube and bottom cornice.
  2. Cut the fabric with scissors. If a pattern is applied to the curtains, it is necessary to cut equal parts of the curtains on the left and right.
  3. Installation of roller blinds on the tube is carried out using double-sided adhesive tape located on it. (Be careful not to unfold the curtains all the way: always leave some fabric on the tube).

Cutting vertical blinds

Cutting the control rail of vertical blinds.

The slats are easy to cut and install. Cut the slats with scissors to the desired height, following the instructions on the package. Cut off the control rail with a hacksaw.

When choosing the material of the blinds, it is necessary to take into account in which room they will hang. For the bathroom and kitchen, plastic blinds are best suited - they are not afraid of moisture and are easy to clean. For the kitchen, you can also recommend aluminum blinds that do not support combustion.

Why are blinds needed?

Their main characteristics are: the ability to easily attach to windows, ease of use and excellent performance of their main function - regulating the light in the room. With constant work at the computer, it is also impossible to do without the use of blinds.

The only question in this case is to understand how you can hang blinds on plastic windows in order to get the most out of their use.

Step-by-step instructions for installing blinds

Determine the size

So, the first step is to buy blinds of the selected production, the appropriate size and other individual characteristics. It should be noted that before going shopping, it is necessary to determine the size of the glass: taking into account this value, you need to know that the blinds must completely cover the glass (in width), slightly going to the limits of the frame.

Unpacking

After the purchase, the initial business is to unpack and untangle the cord, as well as to make out the fasteners.

From what is included in the package, dowels can be set aside, because in this case the blinds will be attached directly to the window.

Deciding on fasteners

We find a mount for which we will mount our blinds. The second step in installing the blinds is to find two metal brackets with latches. This will be required in order to subsequently fix the container with the "blinds" on them.

We make the markup and install the mounting brackets

The next step is markup. For its correct implementation, first of all, you must carefully read the instructions. After all, you need to place the mounting brackets in such a way that it is easy to insert a container into them.

In other words, you need to find the optimal distance from the end of the markup. An important point at this step is the complete exclusion of amateur performance: everything on the window should be drawn with a pencil according to the level, but not by eye.

Otherwise, the curvature of the fit will immediately catch your eye when the plates rise, and this does not look very aesthetically pleasing. It is also necessary to pay attention to the fact that the bars do not move outside the glass, since if there is a shift, the adjustment of the container will be violated.

Useful advice!

Brackets must be fastened with latches upwards. However, before that, it is necessary to drill the window with a drill (thin), and then direct the screws towards the plastic.

If everything is done carefully, then nothing terrible will happen to the window, because the remaining drilled holes are removed using acrylic sealant. However, with the accuracy and caution of the execution of this step, they will not be at all.

We put on the container

Then the container is put on. We cover the latches and determine the correct fit. In the event that the brackets are firmly located on the window, and the container is easily removed or put on, it is required to say that the work was done perfectly. However, it is not yet fully completed.

The last thing left is to install the lower holders. Their role is to fix the web of slats and fasten it to protect it from free movement. When lifting, the lower edge of the web must be removed from the holders by hand.

Installing the bottom brackets

In order to mark the lower holders, you need to lower the canvas down. Then you need to estimate by eye their position in the case of a tightly stretched canvas.

With a dangling web, it is impossible to accurately measure the lower holders. After a correct measurement, it is imperative to drill holes and screw the holder with screws.

Mounting holders

At this stage, the question begins to disturb: how should the holder be twisted - outward or inward?

The answer is quite simple: both when screwing in and out, the result remains the same, in any case, no screws remain visible. Therefore, here it is already required to rely on your convenience and principles.

This completed the process of attaching the blinds to the window.

If you bought or ordered vertical or horizontal blinds, then we suggest you install them yourself, because you can cope with this task even without experience, the main thing is to have a desire, 1 hour of free time and a few tools.

Attention! Installing blinds does not require special skills, but keep in mind that any damage that occurred during independent work will exclude the possibility of warranty repairs, exchange / return of curtains.

Depending on the type of curtains, your preferences and conditions, blinds are installed:

  • In the window opening;
  • On the wall;
  • To the ceiling;
  • Just on the window.

We have compiled 3 step-by-step instructions and a selection of useful videos with which you can mount horizontal and vertical blinds of any kind in any way.

To install horizontal blinds on a wall or ceiling, as well as to install vertical blinds above a window, you need to prepare:

  1. Electric drill with a drill for concrete 6-8 mm;
  2. Self-tapping screws and dowels 6-8 mm;
  3. Roulette or ruler and level;
  4. Pencil;
  5. Phillips screwdriver or screwdriver;
  6. If necessary, shortening and cutting curtains in width: hacksaw, scissors, threads, needles.

Instructions for installing horizontal blinds on the wall / to the ceiling

To properly install the blinds to the wall or ceiling, you need to perform the following steps.

Step 1. We check the complete set of curtains and lay out all the details on the work surface.

Make sure that the set of curtains includes: universal fasteners for blinds 2 pcs. (or standard brackets), screws, blinds themselves assembled. If you are installing blinds with a width of more than 2 m, then an intermediate fastener must be attached to the set of fasteners, which will fix the curtain in the middle, preventing it from sagging.

Step 2. We apply the curtains to the wall / ceiling, determine the exact place for their installation and mark the left and right edges of the blinds eaves using a tape measure and a level. Further from each mark (in the direction away from the center) we make an indent of 2-3 cm and also put marks - these are the places for installing brackets.

Step 3. Now we apply the right and left fasteners to these marks and mark the exact drilling locations right along the screw holes. We drill these marks with a drill. Drilling depth should be 3-4 cm.

Step 5. If you are installing blinds with a width of more than 2 m, then at this stage you need to install intermediate fasteners. To do this, mark the middle between the already installed fasteners and repeat the steps from steps 3 and 4.

Tip: for reliable installation of heavy aluminum, bamboo and wooden curtains, intermediate fasteners are also installed 10 cm from the regulating thread, since this place has a large load.

Step 6. We insert and close the upper eaves of the blinds in the locks of the brackets. If these are standard brackets, then the cornice is simply screwed to them with screws.

Instructions for installing horizontal blinds in a window opening

To install horizontal blinds in a window opening, you need to perform the following work.

Make sure that the blinds are supplied with: fasteners for blinds (brackets) 2 pcs., screws, blinds themselves assembled.

Step 2. We try on the curtains to the desired place in the window niche and check if the blinds interfere with opening.

Step 3. Now we apply the right and left fasteners to the upper inner plane of the window niche, stepping back from its walls by 2-3 cm towards the center, then make marks in the places of the fastener holes. Thus, you will get 2 labels on the right and 2 labels on the left.

Step 4. Now we drill holes on these marks with a drill. Drilling depth should be 3-4 cm.

Step 5. We fasten the right and left fasteners (in accordance with the sides and marks) to the upper plane of the window opening using self-tapping screws.

Step 6. We insert and close the upper cornice of the blinds in the locks of the brackets, simply by turning and / or pressing the lever clockwise. If you use conventional brackets for fastening, then the blinds are simply screwed on.

Instructions for installing vertical blinds to the ceiling / wall and in the window opening

Do-it-yourself installation of vertical blinds involves the following steps:

Step 1. We check the package and lay out all the details on the work surface.

The set of vertical blinds includes: fasteners for blinds (brackets) 2 pcs., screws, cornice, the curtains themselves disassembled (lamellas with weights, lower connecting chain).

Step 2. Before installing the blinds, you need to make sure that their length suits you. To do this, attach one lamella to the desired location on the ceiling / wall / upper plane of the window opening. If the distance from the bottom of the curtains to the window sill or floor is less than 1-2 cm, then it is better to shorten the slats. You can do this with your own hands: get the weights, cut off the excess and hem the edges back.

Step 3. Now you need to attach the cornice to the ceiling / wall of the window opening, align and mark its right and left ends.

Then we do the following:

  • If you install vertical blinds to the ceiling, then we indent 2-3 cm from the marks set earlier towards the center and put the marks again;
  • If you want to install the blinds to the wall, then from the previously set marks we indent 5-6 cm towards the center and also put the marks.

If you mount the curtains in the window opening, then you do not need to mark the ends of the cornice, just make notes, stepping back from the walls of the opening 2-3 cm towards the center.

Further, it is on these marks that we apply fasteners for blinds and mark the places of drilling. Thus, you will get 2 labels on the right and 2 labels on the left. Don't forget to attach the fasteners to match the sides.

Note: for mounting curtains with a width of more than 1.6 m, you must additionally install an intermediate fastener 10 cm from the adjusting cord.

Step 4. Now we drill holes on these marks with a drill. Drilling depth should be 4-5 cm.

Step 5. We fasten the right and left fasteners (in accordance with the sides and marks) to the ceiling / wall with self-tapping screws.

Step 6. We insert and close the eaves of the blinds in the locks of the fasteners by turning and / or pressing the lever clockwise. If you use conventional brackets for fastening, then the cornice is simply screwed to them.

Step 7. By adjusting the cord, turn the runners so that they unfold across the eaves (as shown below in the left photo) and proceed to attach the lamellas by simply snapping them into the grooves of the runners.

Step 8. We attach the lower chain to the lamella weights, first from their outer side, then cut off the excess and do the same on the reverse side of the lamellas, and then with the second part of the lamellas. Well, that's all, the installation of vertical blinds is completed, it remains only to check the operation of the mechanism and adjust the position of the slats.

Below is a video instruction on how to properly install vertical blinds with your own hands to the wall.

Windows in the house are the main source of light. Rooms with warm summer rays always cheer up, but what if this light heats up too much and creates a feeling of a stuffy room. To prevent this and slightly limit the entry of light into the home, there is a huge selection of different curtains, curtains or blinds. Vertical blinds are one of the most common types of blinds.

They can be used both in the office and at home. The first question that arises when purchasing such blinds is how to assemble vertical blinds and hang them up?

In fact, there is nothing difficult in this and anyone can do it.

These blinds are common and have many good features. With their help, you can visually expand the space of the room and increase the height of the ceilings, and this is just very convenient for small rooms. They also have the great advantage that they can be placed on openings of absolutely any shape - oblique, arched, curved or round. The cornice can be not only straight.

You will be surprised by the variety of shapes, shades, colors and textures of vertical blinds. In addition, they can be made to order according to your individual preferences.

They are very easy to maintain, they do not need careful maintenance. They are quick and easy to assemble and disassemble. They will be a wonderful decorative element of your interior, letting in scatter rays and preventing the penetration of too bright light. And also they are easy to manage, they have mobility, simplicity and practicality.

Design

In the manufacture of blinds, various materials are used, such as plastic, fabric, wood, bamboo.

The design of the blinds includes the following details:

Assembly instructions for vertical blinds

To assemble the blinds, you will need to stock up on a screwdriver, a drill with a tape measure, a stepladder, a screwdriver and fasteners.

In addition, you should decide how the lamellas will move along the eaves.

There are several ways:

  1. The extension of the slats occurs from the controlled element, the retraction to the element;
  2. Extending the slats to the control element when they are on different sides;
  3. Extension of slats from the center on both sides;
  4. Collection to the center of the product.

You can choose the option that suits you best.

How to hang vertical blinds on a window

There may also be several options for attaching the eaves:

  • on the wall;
  • on the ;
  • on the window frame.

On a note: Runners are special devices for hanging lamellas on the eaves.

First you need to outline the desired height. For more accurate measurements, use the building level. Using a tape measure, you need to find the middle point at which the cornice and the window are combined to determine the place to which the cornice will be located. For a 2-meter cornice, two brackets will be sufficient, and if it is larger, then at least three should be made.

The fasteners must recede from the walls to prevent the lamellas from snugly adhering to the battery, otherwise yellowness may appear on the lamellas.
Attach brackets to the marked places to measure the required hole, and then fix them with a screwdriver or screwdriver. Holes are drilled about seven centimeters deep, dowels are driven into them.
The eaves are installed with the help of special bracket clips, with which the profile simply snaps into place.

Important: You need to carefully approach a flat horizontal line, and also that the indents from the window are the same.

From below, a weighting agent is installed on each lamella and canvases are fastened with a chain. The operation of the device is checked by rotating and expanding the blinds with a control element. All installation work is completed.

Exploitation

Blinds need proper care. There are a few rules of what not to do to prevent undesirable reduction in service life and breakage.
If there are animals or children in the house, you need to make sure that the blinds do not pull. Damage to the mechanism is possible if the blinds are frequently pulled apart and moved. Children can play around in this way, so it is better to put the control element out of the reach of children.

Over time, the blinds will get dirty, dusty. Blinds made of plastic, aluminum or wood are wiped with a damp cloth, and fabrics made of material can be washed after disassembling the structure.

After you, most likely, you will immediately have a question about the need to install blinds. In most cases, blinds are not just an element of window decor - they are a means of protection from the sun, it is about blinds that we want to tell you today, telling about their advantages, types and methods of installation with our own hands.

The content of the article:

Should blinds be installed on windows?

Someone thinks that blinds are just a necessity, and someone - on the contrary, that they are not needed, so who is right in this situation!? In fact, there are no right and wrong in this situation, since the need to install blinds is an exclusively subjective opinion. This opinion is based on two factors: personal taste and necessity. Thus, we can draw a small conclusion that blinds are installed in two cases: if they like and / or if there is a need for them. Let's look at these two factors in more detail.

Many people like blinds because of their beauty, because there are several types of them, which we will talk about a little later. With the help of blinds, you can visually decorate the window, especially by using blinds of a certain color or with different patterns, which will fit wonderfully into the interior of the room, and also transform the window "thematically". Many prefer blinds, because they can be used to replace curtains and curtains that many are already tired of.

As for the need for blinds, they help protect from the sun's rays. If your windows face east, south or west, then in summer you will be very uncomfortable with direct sunlight.

Firstly, due to direct sunlight, the air temperature in the room rises significantly. By installing blinds, the temperature in the room will be several degrees lower, as they will prevent direct sunlight from entering. In addition, blinds are necessary if you have air conditioning installed, otherwise it will take longer to cool the air in the room, and the temperature will be quickly lost. Therefore, in order not to force the air conditioner to work unnecessarily, it is necessary to install blinds.

Secondly, due to direct sunlight in the room it becomes very bright and this causes discomfort, especially for those whose windows face the east side, when the sun begins to shine in the eyes in the early morning. Also, blinds are necessary if you have a not very beautiful landscape outside your window - the blinds will hide all this beautifully. Well, another small positive thing about blinds is that they close the room from the sun's rays, so furniture, paint, wallpaper and window profiles from the inside are less prone to fading.

Types of blinds

Today there are 3 types of window blinds:
  • Horizontal;

  • vertical;

  • Fabric.
Blinds can be made from a variety of materials:
  • Aluminum;

  • Plastic;

  • Wood;

  • Textile;

  • Bamboo;

  • Etc.
The choice of type and material of blinds depends solely on your preferences. If you prefer classics and simplicity, then these are definitely horizontal aluminum blinds. If you do not plan to hang curtains and curtains or want to install blinds instead, then the best option is vertical blinds. If you want something beautiful and elegant - choose fabric blinds, they are very beautiful, besides, unlike the previous two blinds. For those who prefer something new or if you have a room made in some style, then we recommend opting for blinds made of wood or bamboo.

Do-it-yourself blinds installation

An integral part of the installation of blinds is their measurement. If the measurement is made incorrectly, then this may not only not look aesthetically pleasing, but also adversely affect the window profile.

Measurement of horizontal and fabric blinds

There are 2 options for fastening blinds: on glazing beads and on a profile. Of course, if you want to attach blinds to glazing beads, then you must be very careful in choosing the length of the screw, as a long screw can damage the glass of the double-glazed window, which will ultimately lead to depressurization of the entire double-glazed window and adversely affect its thermal insulation properties. Mounting blinds on a plastic window profile is easier, there is no danger, but it is one thing when a hole is made in a glazing bead, which can be easily replaced, and another when the hole is in the profile. Personally, we recommend giving preference to fastening blinds to glazing beads, and, if possible, to fasteners with double-sided tape, this method will not require making extra holes in the window.

The width of horizontal blinds is measured from the left edge of the left glazing bead to the right edge of the right glazing bead. In the same way, the height of the blinds is measured: from the top of the upper glazing bead to the bottom of the lower glazing bead. It is important to consider one point: how you will fix the blinds. If you want to strengthen the blinds on the glazing beads, and at the same time install the lower clamps also on the glazing beads, then the length of the blinds must strictly correspond to the distance from the bases of the glazing beads.

We decided to show the measurement of the blinds in the picture below. Beads are shown in blue - plastic strips that fix the double-glazed window to the profile. The red lines show the boundaries along which it is necessary to measure the window, taking into account our recommendations.

Measurement of vertical blinds

In turn, measuring vertical blinds is a simpler process, since there are no special nuances here. The peculiarity of the measurement is how you want to fix the blinds. There are three types of vertical blinds:

  • To the top of the window slope;

  • Above the window opening (like a regular cornice);

  • To the ceiling.
Each of these options has its own advantages - consider them.

If you want to limit direct sunlight into the apartment, and at the same time give preference to vertical blinds, then it is best to mount them on the top of the window slope - this type of mount has a more beautiful look. If you want to completely hide the window behind the blinds, or if you have plastic slopes, then you can mount vertical blinds above the window opening. If you want to install blinds instead of curtains and stretch them along a large window opening or on the entire wall, then you need to mount the blinds on the ceiling.

If the blinds will be installed in the window opening, then their width should be equal to the width of the window opening, and the length should be strictly from the upper slope to the window sill, even a little shorter so that they do not cling to the window sill. If you want the blinds to protrude beyond the perimeter of the window opening, then the width of the blinds must be made with an allowance of 15-20 cm, and you can make the height both with an allowance of 20-30 cm more than the height of the window opening, or even make blinds to the floor. If you want blinds to the floor, then we recommend giving preference to blinds for the entire wall - such blinds and the type of their fastening will look very beautiful.

When your measurements are ready, you can go to a company that manufactures blinds, or you can order them through an online store, which will be cheaper and easier. The only thing you will need to choose is the color of the blinds and clarify whether the fastening materials are included with the blinds.

Blinds installation

How to install blinds on plastic windows? Now let's get down to the fun part - installation. Horizontal and vertical blinds have a different mounting method, so we will talk about them separately.

Installation of horizontal blinds

To install horizontal blinds, you will need a screwdriver or screwdriver and a pencil. The installation procedure is very simple. We put brackets on the upper part of the blinds and measure in which part to screw in the self-tapping screw and mark it with a pencil. It is very good if the brackets are mounted on one self-tapping screw to make fewer holes in the window. So, when the attachment point is planned, we check the correctness of everything and remove the brackets. We first take one bracket, apply it to the intended area and screw in the self-tapping screw. After that, we do the same with the second bracket. Then we put the blinds on the brackets and in the same way we fix the clamps on the sides from the bottom of the blinds. We check whether everything works, and proceed to the installation of blinds on the remaining parts of the window.

As for horizontal fabric blinds, the principle of their installation is somewhat different from the above. As a rule, this type of blinds is attached to brackets, which are fixed to the window on an adhesive base, that is, simply put, they are glued to the profile. As well as horizontal blinds, fabric ones are fixed at the bottom.

You will learn more about the installation of horizontal and fabric blinds from the videos below.

Installation of vertical blinds

Installation of vertical blinds has 2 types of installation. The first type of installation is when the cornice of vertical blinds is attached to the ceiling or to the upper slope. The second type of installation is when the cornice of the blinds is attached to brackets that are fixed to the wall.

With the first type of installation, there are special mounting holes in the middle of the eaves through which screws are screwed in, fixing the structure to the ceiling or to the slope. To fix the cornice, you need to attach the cornice itself, then you need to outline where to make holes for fastening. Using a puncher, make holes and drive dowels into them. Please note that if you make holes in the slope with a puncher, then be careful not to break off part of the wall. After you have driven the dowels into the holes, attach the cornice and fix it with screws.

With the second type of installation, you must first fix the brackets on the wall, after which the cornice is put on them. Before marking the areas in which the brackets will be fixed, it is necessary to attach a cornice and take measurements. After that, we make holes in the designated areas, hammer dowels into them and then fix the brackets with a screw. At the end of the installation work, we fix the cornices on the brackets.

The next step in the installation of blinds is their assembly. Unlike horizontal and fabric blinds, vertical blinds need to be assembled, but it's not difficult. To do this, you need to collect all the sliders together and turn them with notches towards you. Then we take the lamellas and insert them into the sliders, when the lamellas are tightly fixed, a click will sound. Then weights are inserted into the lower part of the slats and fixed with a chain. After that, check the operation of the mechanism and proceed to attach the decorative panels to the eaves.

Blinds installation video guide

This video demonstrates the process of installing horizontal blinds. In the mounting method used, the brackets are attached directly to the profile with self-tapping screws, and not to the glazing beads.

In this video you can get acquainted with the installation of fabric blinds, the brackets of which are also attached to the profile with self-tapping screws, and not glued to it.

The last video will tell you how to install vertical blinds and assemble them.
