How to weld a stove from disks. Instructions for making a potbelly stove from wheel rims with your own hands. Materials and tools for installation

Setting up a full-fledged stone stove for a garden, home or bathhouse requires significant physical and monetary costs, and in some cases it can be done without homemade devices. A good choice would be a stove made from car rims, which will help cook food over the fire and heat small room or a bathhouse.

The main advantage of such stoves is the availability and high quality of the material from which they will be made. Steel for discs is hard and durable, unlike regular steel, which can burn out. The material is not particularly heat resistant, but its reserve is quite enough to organize a stove. In addition, this steel does not release harmful substances into the air when overheated, which is very important when cooking. Make a similar stove from car rims It is possible with your own hands if you have a great desire and the proper tools.

  • Materials for manufacturing are available everywhere, and even buying old disks will not result in serious financial costs;
  • Ease of manufacture of the device;
  • The finished stove has a sufficient safety margin for long-term use;
  • The finished design does not take up too much free space;
  • Automotive steel demonstrates resistance to high loads, mechanical damage and deformation;
  • Can be used in conditions of high humidity;
  • The product is suitable for use with various types of fuel: wood, pellet fuel, charcoal and coal.

Let us focus on the fact that almost any stove made from wheel rims will be portable, which is very convenient in a private home or cottage.

Despite all the advantages, stoves of this type also have their disadvantages:

  • When installing the device directly on the ground, sufficient draft is not created to maintain fuel combustion, as a result, the burner often goes out;
  • The grill turns out to be too low, and without additional legs it is inconvenient to cook food on it;
  • Steel discs heat up too quickly and can cause serious burns if handled carelessly;
  • The steel cools too quickly, resulting in a large amount of fuel being required to maintain the desired temperature.

Due to their shortcomings, such stoves are practically not used as the main device for heating a house or cottage, but at the same time they are perfect for heating a bathhouse, technical rooms, and also for cooking.

How to make a stove from disks

A homemade oven made from car wheels does not require any special skills to make, and even novice home craftsmen can handle the process. The main thing in the process is to strictly follow the instructions and follow the basic rules personal safety. Below we will look at the process of making a stove for a cauldron, a homemade barbecue and a device for heating a bathhouse.

Stove for cauldron

It is better to begin work on the production of a stove from car disks for a cauldron with preparation necessary materials and tools. For work we will need:

  • Roulette;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Wrenches of various diameters;
  • 100 cm pipes rectangular section;
  • 3 bolts and three nuts for them. It is better to take large bolts, they will be easier to work with;
  • 4 nuts, size 10;
  • Wire with a diameter of at least 4 mm;
  • Personal protective equipment (mask, gloves, protective apron);
  • 2 car wheels.

Old car wheels can be found in garage cooperatives or tire shops, where they will give you them for practically nothing

It is worth choosing the diameter of car rims depending on what size cauldron you plan to use. If the pot is small, then small discs from passenger car 13 or 14 radius. If you are going to cook dishes on the stove for a large company, then give preference better than disks from trucks.

The furnace manufacturing process begins with the processing of the wheel rims themselves. Used wheels have a corresponding appearance: the metal darkens, the paint on the surface has peeled off in places, and areas of rust may appear. To prepare the discs, it is necessary to sand the entire surface with sandpaper. Painted discs should be heated well over a fire and treated with a solvent.

The manufacture of the stove for the cauldron is carried out using the welding method. The work is carried out in stages and includes the following steps:

1. Hob.

We install one of the disks on the ground with the fasteners facing up. We make markings on the surface in the form of a circle (you can use bolt holes as guides). Using a grinder, cut out an even circle along the mark. From the disk it turned out hob, which will hold the cauldron over the stove. The cut hole must be sanded using sandpaper, which will help avoid injury in the future.

2. Manufacturing of the furnace body.

We take the second disk and install it on the ground with the fasteners down. We install the part prepared in the first step onto the disk so that the round hole is on top. We weld both disks together along the seam, clean the seam with sandpaper.

3. Door.

Cut out the bottom of the stove rectangular hole, the dimensions of which will be convenient for placing fuel inside the stove. Don't make the hole too close to the bottom; there needs to be room to hold the coals. We process the hole with sandpaper and weld two large bolts to it, and two nuts to the cut metal part. We weld a third bolt to the cut metal, which will act as a door. We weld the door onto the bolts.

There is no need to make an additional hole for air supply, since the door can handle these functions perfectly

To make the stove more mobile, you can slightly modernize the design. We bend thick wire into handles and weld it on both sides of the stove.

We cut the rectangular pipe into 3 equal parts. The length of one part is about 30 centimeters. Turn the oven upside down and weld the legs to it at a slight angle. The angle will make the structure as stable as possible. You can also weld a sheet steel patch to the bottom, which will prevent coals from falling onto the ground in the future.

The legs will raise the stove, which will increase its convenience for cooking

6. Appearance.

The finished cauldron stove can be decorated with heat-resistant enamel. It is advisable to give preference dark colors, since bright colors will quickly lose their shade, and traces of burning will appear on the surface.

Barbecue made of disks

To make a barbecue, it’s worth thinking about the layout of the future design, stocking up the necessary materials and tools. You also need to have skills in cutting and welding metal products.

The remote side is perfect as a stand for a frying pan or pot

To carry out the work you will need following materials and tools:

  • Old car disk;
  • Grinder with a nozzle for cleaning metal;
  • Welding machine and electrodes for it;
  • Sandpaper or iron brush to remove rust;
  • File;
  • Hammer;
  • Hammer;
  • Several large bolts;
  • Rectangular profile pipe;
  • Grill grate.

At the first stage, the wheels are prepared. To remove old paint You can warm the discs well and treat them with a solvent. Old paint and rust can also be easily removed using sandpaper, a wire brush or an abrasive attachment.

The simplest version of the barbecue is made from one disk. Disk manipulation includes the following steps:

  1. On one side of the disk we cut out the inner part so that a structure is formed that resembles a cauldron in appearance;
  2. If the holes in the bottom are too large, and coals can spill through them while using the stove, then we weld an additional steel plate. Do not close the holes completely, otherwise the coals will not be blown through and it will not be possible to achieve sufficient heat inside the structure;
  3. On the bottom side, legs are welded from profile pipe or a thick steel rod: the height of one leg is at least 40 centimeters in length. Weld the legs at an angle, so the finished structure will be more stable;
  4. Using sandpaper, carefully process all cut edges;
  5. We install a grate on top of the structure. There is no need to weld it, as a removable one will be more practical.

You can slightly improve the barbecue design by making a window in the side for loading fuel and collecting burnt ash. Another improvement is welded wire handles on the sides, which will make it easier to carry the structure.

Bath stove

To weld a sauna stove from, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • Grinder with metal discs;
  • Welding equipment and electrodes;
  • Personal protection (goggles, gloves, apron);
  • Smoke exhaust pipe with a cross-section of 160 mm and a metal thickness of 5 mm;
  • Metal sheets with a thickness of at least 8 mm;
  • Door fastenings;
  • Red brick;
  • Cement and sand for mortar;
  • 4 car wheels for trucks.

When making a sauna stove, it is advisable to give preference to truck wheels with a diameter of more than 500 mm and a steel thickness of at least 10 mm.

General scheme working of a sauna stove made from car rims

As in the manufacture of other furnaces, initial stage You should prepare the discs and clean them of old paint, dirt and rust. Next, the design manufacturing process includes the following steps:

  1. Using two disks we make a hot water tank. To do this, we weld the discs to each other in the rim area. We weld a sheet of metal to the bottom of the finished structure, and in the center we make a hole along the diameter of the pipe to remove smoke. The pipe must have fastenings on the left or right side to move the structure to the side if necessary. A tap for water supply is installed in the side part, and a lid for the tank is made in the upper part. Please note that the tank must be completely sealed.
  2. We fill the finished tank with water and check for leaks. If problem areas are present, then by welding we tightly fix the holes.
  3. We install the finished tank in the steam room.
  4. We weld the two remaining disks together to form a hollow structure. We place a grate inside the cylinder, which will serve for laying out stones. The upper part will be open, and the lower part will be used as a firebox.
  5. In the side of the lower disk we cut a hole that matches the size of the firebox door. We weld the door hangers to the walls of the holes and mount the door on them.
  6. In order for the finished stove to last as long as possible, it is necessary to fill reliable foundation. For the lower part it is better to use concrete mixture, and for the top, refractory brick masonry is suitable.

A properly manufactured disk furnace is capable of heating air and water in a steam room up to optimal temperature in just an hour.

Video: steam room stove

It is not difficult to make a furnace from used and old car wheels, and it can be done even by novice craftsmen who have mastered working with a welding machine. Just follow the instructions and recommendations, and then the final design will be of high quality and durable.

Traditionally, brick is used for a sauna stove, but folk craftsmen have adapted to making this design from scrap materials. What to do if there is no brick at hand, but ready-made option Is steel or cast iron expensive to purchase? Oddly enough, experts recommend making a sauna stove out of disks.

Features of the future design

Device

Such a stove for a sauna made from car wheels consists of four disks from ZIL-130 or a similar size. Everyone has their own task:

  1. Rim I and the bottom are used as a firebox. It has the bottom cut out. You can heat the disk sauna stove from the dressing room or directly in the steam room. In the first case, you will need to additionally build a small firebox made of bricks. Second option additional structures does not provide, but is less convenient to use; additional complexity is caused by the design of the door.
  2. As a heater, use a second rim, in which the bottom is left and welded on top of the first.
  3. Rim III cuts gases, causing them to release extra warmth resulting from cooling and exiting into the chimney.
  4. Three disks serve as a housing for the stove, the fourth serves as a water tank. The water in it will actively heat up.

Make a sauna stove from rims with your own hands is quite possible.

Principle of operation

The operating principle is simple but effective: energy from burning fuel rises through the first rim and heats the stones in the second. A pipe passing through the third and fourth disks removes gaseous combustion products into chimney. The third disk is used as a kind of heat exchanger, heating up from hot gases in the chimney and transferring additional heat to the room.

These same gases give up the remaining heat in the fourth disk, heating the water. Hot water will always be in the bathhouse, the capacity of such a tank is approximately 40 liters. Water can be drawn into the boiler manually or a water supply can be installed. This disc stove is not inferior to ready-made analogues, but lasts longer.

Wheel selection

For optimal heat transfer, especially in the middle part, the disks must have a certain size. The diameter of the disk must be at least half a meter, and its height must be at least 25 cm, which has been established experimentally. It is for this reason that you should only use wheels from trucks. Similar rims from a passenger car have too small size. This is exactly what makes them different.

Disk truck

Consumables

When making a sauna stove from KAMAZ or other truck wheels, we will use available material.

We will need:

  • automobile wheel rims from any truck (at least 0.5 m in diameter) - 4 pcs.;
  • steel pipe Ø160, wall thickness 5-7, L=500 - two pcs.;
  • red refractory brick for the firebox - 60 pcs.;
  • concave steel disc 5 mm and 120 mm in diameter smaller than a car disc - 1 pc.;
  • fittings A-I Ø10-16 L=150 mm - 4 pcs.;
  • fittings A-I Ø12-16 L=200 mm - 4 pcs.;
  • fittings A-I Ø10-12 L=100 mm - 4 pcs.;
  • reinforcement A-III Ø12 - 18 m;
  • steel sheet, thickness 3 mm, 600x600 - 0.12 m 2;
  • sheet of 4 mm steel, 600x600 - 0.12 m2;
  • concrete B12.5 700x700x800 = 0.4 m 3;
  • doors for the firebox and ash pan;
  • tap;
  • Other materials.

Tools

We will need:

  • Bulgarian;
  • Welding inverter;
  • other handy tools.

Manufacturing instructions

Having certain skills, it is not difficult to make such a stove with your own hands. The dimensions of the brick firebox are only 625x625 mm. The first thing to do is to calculate and build the foundation and only then move on to the upper part.

Calculation and arrangement of the foundation

To begin with, let's determine the initial data for the lower part of the sauna stove. We will need:

  • soil freezing depth;
  • soil characteristics: heaving, aggressiveness, etc.

The freezing depth is taken according to SP 131.13330.2015 “Building climatology”. The remaining characteristics are determined visually. Heaving soil requires a laying depth of at least 1.2 m, dry or sandy soil - at least 0.8 cm. The base of the foundation must be below the freezing mark of the soil.

It is better to make the foundation for a sauna stove in the form of a solid monolithic slab with reinforcement. Concrete of class B12.5 - B15 is suitable as a material. According to SNiP, the foundation must exceed the dimensions of the structure by at least 100 in each direction.

  • We accept slab dimensions of 700x700.
  • We take the depth to be 0.8 m, then V concrete = 0.7 m * 0.7 m * 0.8 m = 0.4 m 3.
  • The pitch of reinforcing bars A-III Ø12 is taken to be 200x200, reinforcement in 2 tiers, protective layer of concrete - 50 mm.
  • We get: 700 - 100 = 600/200+1 = 4 transverse rods, 700 - 100 = 600/200+1 = 4 longitudinal rods, 4*4 = 16 vertical rods.
  • Total: 8*0.6m+16*0.7 m = 4.8+11.2 = 16 m.
  • As a standard, we take 10% as a reserve, taking into account overlaps 16 * 1.1 = 17.6 > take 18 m.

Foundation example

Wall and ceiling protection

One of the disadvantages of a sauna stove made from truck wheel disks is the high temperature of its surface, which requires certain fire safety measures, including protecting the walls and ceiling with fireproof materials.

The ceiling is insulated with glass wool, which has a metallized coating underneath. This material is fireproof and effectively reflects heat back into the room.

A protective apron is installed on the walls to the full height, with a width of at least 700 mm.

Manufacturing of the structure

A general view of the furnace made from wheel rims is shown in Fig. 1, sectional drawing of the furnace - in Fig. 2.

Rice. 1 — Scheme of a stove for a bath made from truck disks

Rice. 2 - Drawing

The work is carried out in the following order:

  • The foundation is being completed.
  • The protecting structures are being protected (see above).
  • Laying a brick firebox. It is performed with ligation of vertical seams, no less than 1/3, on the bed. Clay is used as a solution.
  • The first disk is installed on the firebox, welded to the second and mounted on the firebox. First, we cut out the bottom of the first disk along the lower rim. For welding, use a continuous weld.
  • We pre-weld a pipe with a diameter of 160 and a length of 500 mm to the second rim. The first one has a reflective sheet slightly smaller than its internal diameter (see Fig. 2).
  • Using 4 rods, we weld the third disk to the second.
  • In the center of the third disk we weld a casing, the diameter of which is slightly larger than the diameter of the exhaust pipe, which we will thread into this casing later. Compact with clay or asbestos cord. We weld the divider.
  • We mount the 4th disk, to which we first weld the bottom of a metal sheet. It will serve as a water reservoir, so all connections must be made tightly.
  • We install a pipe with a base welded to its top for a brick chimney. We lay out at least 5 rows of brick chimney. Next, we use it as a base for an asbestos-cement pipe with a diameter of 160.

The installation process does not cause difficulties if you prepare all the workpieces in advance and carefully use this step by step instructions. Cover all excess holes with 4 mm thick liners.

Chimney installation

Let's look at the chimney device in more detail. Let's start with the fact that the maximum weight of an asbestos-cement pipe is 50 kg. This is due to the fact that it rests on a metal platform that is only 3 mm thick. The main load is borne by the bottom of the 4th disk.

The entire structure must be securely fastened. The joints must be additionally sealed with asbestos cord to prevent smoke from entering the room.

Brickwork is used as a base for an asbestos-cement pipe. For secure fastening, it is necessary to make at least 5 rows of brick. Laying must be done with obligatory bandaging of vertical seams.

Pipe outlet

The pipe exits through the roof. The height of the pipe above the ridge is at least 0.5 m. The place where the pipe passes through the ceiling must be protected by a special fireproof casing and insulated.

It is worth noting that the chimney outlet can also be made in the wall. This assumes a horizontal section, which is not desirable. But the chimney will take less space in the room itself. The fire safety requirements are the same.

Features of operation

Problems during operation homemade stove can be easily avoided if you follow simple rules:

  • Carefully monitor the tightness of all connections. To diagnose the appearance of microcracks, use sand. It is easy to cover up new cracks with clay.
  • Use special composition for painting the stove. It should provide increased protection against corrosion. The loss of metal properties as a result of corrosion is the most common reason breakdowns.
  • Additionally, secure the chimney pipe using clamps.

You should also strictly observe all fire safety standards:

  • place a sheet of iron in front of the firebox;
  • protect all adjacent structures with fireproof materials;
  • arrange a protective screen of brick, filling the space between it and the stove with sand.

Conclusion

We can conclude that constructing a furnace made of metal disks can be done with your own hands. In practice, such a stove shows itself at its best. the best side. It is very easy to maintain and does not make any special demands on fuel quality. The sauna heats up faster than a factory design of similar power.

The average time for heating a volume of 16 m 3 to 120 0 C, at proper insulation, takes only one hour, although the consumption of firewood increases. Suitable for those who are wealthy enough not to save on this expense item.

The durability and reliability of the design has been tested in practice. Rarely seen on online forums negative reviews and comments. Problems most often arise from manufacturing errors. To avoid them, strictly follow the recommendations presented.

However, with all the advantages, the design also has some disadvantages:

  • high risk of burns due to careless handling;
  • the design quickly heats the room, but it also cools down quickly;

As you can see, these disadvantages do not outweigh the advantages. They can be dealt with quite effectively. The installation of a protective screen made of brick can solve both problems at once: reduce the risk of injury and increase the heat capacity of the furnace. Another tip - when assembling, pay attention Special attention for the tightness of the container of the last disk. To heat the water faster, cover the boiler with a lid.

If you have a small bathhouse, garage or workshop on your property, which you rarely use during the cold season, it makes no sense to build a full-fledged brick oven. Such a design will take up a lot of space and will require an impressive amount of money for building materials and the work of the stove maker. But there is an alternative solution - a stove made from car wheels, which to make with your own hands will only require a couple of hours of work and worn-out wheels.

In addition to the availability of the main components, a homemade stove has a number of advantages:

  • Ease of construction.
  • Compact sizes that you can choose yourself based on the diameter of the discs.
  • Fast heating and good heat dissipation.
  • Durability due to thickness and good quality become.
  • Resistance to deformation even with prolonged exposure to humidity and high temperatures.
  • Possibility to use different kinds fuels - wood, coal, fuel pellets.

Among the shortcomings we note following points. Firstly, metal is a good conductor, and the stove becomes very hot when heated, which can cause burns and injuries. And secondly, a disk stove cools down as quickly as it heats up - approximately 1.5-2 hours after the last batch of fuel burns out. Therefore, it should not be considered as a permanent heating device, but it will be just right for heating a bathhouse or utility rooms!

Note! Even a large sauna stove made from truck disks can heat a room with an area of no more than 15 m2. Therefore, for large rooms you will need a more powerful device.

Materials and equipment for work

To make a stove from wheel rims with your own hands, you will need the following set of tools:

  1. A grinder with metal circles or a gas cutter.
  2. Welding machine and electrodes.
  3. Protective equipment: glasses, leggings.
  4. 2 cuts of 50 cm each of metal pipe with a thickness of 5 mm and a diameter of 160 mm.
  5. Iron sheet 8 mm.
  6. Door hangers (can be replaced with large bolts and nuts)
  7. Fire brick.
  8. Cement-sand mortar for masonry and clay.
  9. 4-6 steel channels.

To build the body, you will need 4 disks from a truck, for example a KrAZ. These wheels will make a stove with a diameter of 0.5 m and a wall thickness of 1 cm - this is quite enough to heat a bathhouse or other utility room.

Used wheels from trucks

Note! Wheels from passenger cars won't fit - their radius is too small.

Fire safety rules when installing homemade stoves

An oven made from car wheels heats primarily with infrared radiation. To convert this stream to warm air, the stove needs to be shielded: surrounded by a casing of steel sheets installed at a distance of 7-10 cm from the heater and with the same gap from the floor.

Safety rules for operating metal furnaces:

  • Needs to be laid on the floor reinforced concrete slab or a steel sheet so that the fire-resistant structure extends beyond the contours of the furnace at least 60 cm in each direction - this will protect against fire if coals accidentally fall out of the firebox.
  • The metal stove and chimney must not come into contact with flammable materials. Use insulating pads if necessary.
  • Before lighting, always check for draft in the channels. If it is not there, you need to warm up the chimney a small amount burnt wood or clean out passages and ash pans.
  • Do not use liquid lighters - they may cause fire to escape from the firebox opening.

Advice! If possible, install the stove in the bathhouse so that the firebox faces the dressing room. This arrangement has many advantages: it is more convenient to heat, in windy weather the smoke will not get into the steam room and the dressing room will get some of the heat.

How to make a stove from disks for a sauna with your own hands

First of all, the discs need to be prepared: cleaned of debris, rust or paint residues using sandpaper. After this, you can begin manufacturing the structure, following the stages of work in the specified order.

Water container

To equip the upper chamber of the future stove, two rims are needed. The water will be heated in this tank, so it must be sealed. To do this, cut out the central plates for fasteners from 2 disks with a grinder, leaving only the rims. They are stacked on top of each other and welded together.

The upper part of the tank is closed with a metal lid or a movable flap. For safety reasons, you can combine these two options and tightly weld the larger segment of the lid, making only the small hole through which water will be poured into the tank sliding or hinged. Welded to the bottom of the chamber metal plate, cut from a sheet.

The structure of the upper part of the stove

After welding, holes are cut in the upper part and at the bottom of the container along the diameter of the chimney pipe. It will pass through the entire tank, should be tightly overlapped by the walls and come out through the bottom. A thin tube is installed in the side of the tank near the bottom at an angle to the floor and is closed with a tap to drain hot water.

Note! The tank must be checked for leaks. Fill it with water and carefully inspect the cracks for leaks, paying special attention to the joints between the walls of the container and the slots for the pipes. If defects are found, they must be eliminated by welding, but only after removing the water and drying the tank.

Arrangement of the heater and the upper part of the firebox

From the two remaining rims you need to make a heater and a firebox cover. The core is cut out of one, the second remains intact. The blanks are placed one on top of the other and stitched together by welding so that the hub of the whole disk is in the middle (it will act as a grid). The container remains open at the top - stones are poured here. The lower part of the cylinder will serve as the upper part of the firebox.

Heaters are best suited for arranging natural stones O round shape that are used in saunas and baths - diabase, basalt, peridotite. But they are quite expensive. Therefore, you can look for heater material near the nearest body of water - these stones have been well hardened by humidity and sun. The best option is dark-colored rocks with a non-layered structure.

The best stones for a heater

Note! The stones in the stove, although slowly, are destroyed under the influence of high temperatures. And this makes it difficult for smoke to pass through. Therefore, periodically the contents of the heater should be sorted out and replaced.

Foundation and brickwork

It is recommended to install a sauna stove made of rims on a strong and fire-resistant foundation. It can be built from reinforced concrete screed, and the top surface can be lined with fire-resistant bricks.

When the base is dry, you can begin to work on the bottom of the oven. For a stove with masonry 62*62 cm, you will need 60 pieces of red heat-resistant bricks. They are held together with clay diluted with water and laid in a square. Don't forget to provide a cavity for the blower and a hole for the door. Attach the grate to the top of the masonry.

Stove assembly

All parts of the structure are assembled sequentially. The metal part is connected to the brick part, the firebox and ash pan are closed with doors cut from a metal sheet.

Scheme of a stove-stove for a sauna made from wheel rims

On a note! For comfortable use, it is advisable to equip the door with a handle made of one large bolt. And to prevent firewood or coals from accidentally falling out, use a latch made of a narrow metal plate and a small loop.

Next, a second section of pipe is welded to the central hole of the hub, located between the firebox and the heater, and sewn to the upper part of the chimney running through the water tank. Stones are placed in the heater: large and medium ones at the bottom, small ones at the top.

To strengthen the structure, metal channels are welded to the rim of the heater and the water tank, which are installed at a slight angle to the top of the body. The pipe is led into a chimney lined with fire-resistant bricks and equipped with a damper.

Such a stove will heat the steam room and water in the tank in just an hour.

Stove made of disks for heating utility rooms

A disc stove for a bath differs from other heating structures in that it has a special container for water and brick base. If you only need to heat a room (for example, a small country house or a garage), the design will be much simpler. For the base of such a stove, you can install several refractory bricks or a section from old radiators, on which a sheet of metal 5-8 mm thick is installed.

The simplest design homemade stove made from wheel rims like this:

  1. Using a grinder, the central part of three of the four disks is cut out.
  2. Two disks are welded together. In the lower one, the bottom is covered with a round plate cut from a steel sheet, or immediately welded to a metal base.

Blank for the lower chamber

  1. On the side surface the grinder cuts a small square hole, and the door is made from the resulting piece of metal. It can be attached to the body with welded bolts and nuts, equipped with an iron handle and latch. This part of the body will simultaneously serve as an ash pan and a blower - to increase traction, just slightly open the door of the lower chamber.

  1. The two remaining disks are also welded together so that the whole disk with the uncut core is at the bottom - this is where the firewood will be stacked. A hole is also cut out on the side of the firebox and a door is mounted.
  2. The top of the stove is covered with a plate in which a round hole is made for the chimney pipe.
  3. All parts of the body are connected by welding, a pipe with a valve at the top is lowered into the upper hole and welded.
  4. The finished stove can be painted using heat-resistant enamel.

Ready oven for heating

Important! Seams are the weak point of any oven made from wheel rims. They must be welded with the utmost care, otherwise the smoke will penetrate into the room through the cracks, instead of completely escaping into the chimney. If the seams become thinner and burn out during operation of the stove, the cracks can be covered with clay and sprinkled with dry sand.

Video: making a homemade stove from car rims

As you can see, you can make a stove from car rims with your own hands to heat any room small area. The only difficulty here may be the lack welding machine or skills to work with it. But this problem can be easily solved by inviting a professional technician with the necessary equipment.

Brazier made from wheel rims

Such a device using old wheels has many advantages, starting with ease of transportation and ending with the ability to maintain the required temperature inside the device due to free access of air.

This barbecue is convenient to use due to its optimal height. It is characterized by ease of movement, light and simple care and with all this has high level reliability and durability. Manufacturing options, as well as we considered earlier.

There are many ways to make homemade units from wheel rims. Let's consider the simplest of them, the manufacture of which will require a minimum of materials and effort. To install it, it is enough to seal the lower hole of the disk with a steel sheet or other material, for example, ceramic tiles.

But, despite all the advantages, this type of barbecue has some disadvantages. Among them the following are noted:

  • low location of the cooking surface;
  • if you install such a device directly on the ground, there will not be enough thrust to maintain the flame, which is why it may go out;
  • small volume of the combustion chamber.

In terms of ease of use, this design is equivalent to a regular camp stand for a brick skewer. For infrequent use, this model is quite suitable, but to make a more reliable and convenient unit you need to work a little more.

For such a barbecue you will need two wheels, as well as a set of tools and materials, including:

  • welding machine with electrodes;
  • grinder;
  • meter profile pipe;
  • fasteners in the form of bolts and nuts;
  • wire;

There is nothing complicated in making a barbecue from two rims. Step by step it looks like this:

An important nuance in creating wheeled barbecue is as follows: the bottom of the furnace should not be welded with metal, as this will interfere with the creation of good draft. To optimize the work, you can cover the bottom with a metal mesh or make a grid of thick wire, building a kind of grate.

That's all, grill from a wheel rim ready. If desired, you can improve its appearance. To do this, the metal must be thoroughly calcined so that all remaining paint, gasoline and oil burn out. After this, you can start sanding the body, and finally coat it with black heat-resistant paint.

When searching alternative solutions For heating rooms, many people pay attention to a stove made from car disks. Correct arrangement This design allows you to heat about 15-16 square meters of area, so it can be called a good solution for a home bath or a good cooking appliance.

The main advantage of the product is availability of basic material, which is used to create. We are talking about thick, resistant steel with increased strength. It is no secret that boiler steel of sheet and profile type is highly expensive, and ordinary structural steel in a furnace structure quickly deforms and burns out.

Making a stove from car rims with your own hands is quite simple. To do this, use two pieces of metal with the same size and weight: one is simple steel, and the second is from a wheel rim, and then heat these elements to the appropriate temperature. You can do this in the kitchen on gas. The first part will immediately begin to emit the smell of hot iron, and the second can be heated to orange color(this happens at temperatures around 900 degrees).

At the same time, there will be no unpleasant burning smell in the air. Ovens made from car wheels are popular due to the fact that they practically do not dry the air and do not emit environment dangerous toxins. This is explained by the fact that wheel disks made of special steels that have a corrosion-resistant surface. The heat resistance of such products, of course, is not standardized, although there is an acceptable margin of resistance quite enough for arranging a wood-coal stove.

Important Disc Features

To successfully build a stove from car rims at home, it is not enough just learn the benefits of such products. It is also important to pay attention to the shortcomings of the feedstock, as well as a number of design features ovens. One of the disadvantages of special steel is the lack of standardization for welding properties. Today there are several different wheel rim production technologies, but in most cases, welding activities are limited with subsequent thermal tempering (annealing), as well as flaw detection of the seam. Therefore, none of the disc manufacturers even realizes that in the future their products will be weldable.

Based on this feature, you cannot neglect safety rules and make a stove long burning on workings from disks. The same applies to pyrolysis furnaces, which can crack at one moment and cause dangerous, boiling substances to enter the room. But It will be difficult to localize the source of the fire, because it must burn out completely. Only solid fuel stoves can be created on the basis of such wheel rims.

Important feature: welds for special operating conditions that have not passed the appropriate quality certification, considered an unreliable solution.

Creation Rules

In any case, subject to certain important rules creating a solid fuel stove from car disks will be possible and successful. You can use this design in small non-residential premises, such as a country house, workshop, etc. It is important to carefully study the following features:

  1. It is important that the weld remains of high quality from a visual point of view. Avoid the appearance of visible defects in the form of cracks, splashes, shells, bubbles and other irregularities.
  2. Two mating workpieces are welded at a time. Cooking the entire structure is strictly prohibited.
  3. After successful completion of each seam, the welded parts are left for some time to resolve residual internal stresses. For every kilogram of mass it takes three minutes.
  4. After a day's exposure to resolving the same stresses, the finished stove is additionally driven (if we are talking about a stationary stove, then such an action takes about three hours. Portable street ones need an hour's run).

During this period, the furnace is also annealed. If during processing there appear minor defects welding, no more than two seams, they can be eliminated after a day, after which the run is repeated.

What you need to know about ovens

If you intend to make a stove from wheel disks for a cauldron or heating non-residential premises, be prepared to pay attention to one more feature. Based on the rules for the construction of solid fuel combustion furnaces, there should be about 40-50 centimeters from the floor of the firebox or grate, i.e., the place where the fuel product is placed, to the first vertical obstacle to the flow of flue gases. This option is required when using conditioned fuel. If it is damp or waste, the distance is increased to 60-80 centimeters. In this case, the heating time of the furnace increases rapidly. Therefore, it is not advisable to use such fuel for disk furnaces.

It is no secret that hot pyrolysis gases can be released from solid fuel products, which significantly affect heat generation. If they come into contact with a less heated surface, they will most likely not be able to burn out, causing soot to fall out. Further use of such a furnace leads to its coking, dense carbon deposits appear on the roof of the firebox and in the chimney. It significantly reduces thermal efficiency, but is a fire hazard.

A stove made from disks is often filled with waste fuel, including:

  1. rotten dry wood;
  2. damp trimmings;
  3. and other products.

True, there may simply not be enough unsuitable disks for a stove with a decent height, or the optimal design design will prevent the possibility of creating a high firebox. In this case, to prepare the furnace, you will have to use a non-standard grate made of durable steel sheet with a diameter of 6 millimeters and reinforcing rods of 10 millimeters. There is no need to worry that the allowable air will not be enough for combustion: through a hole with a diameter of 10 centimeters, with a chimney 1.5 meters high, there will be enough air for 18 kW of power for wood and 30 kW for coal.

Which type to choose for yourself

Taking into account the above-mentioned features, it is necessary to correctly select the appropriate type of disk furnace. Necessity independent arrangement ovens made from car rims happen in the following cases:

  1. If you need to heat small non-residential premises, for example, country house or workshop. The use of high-quality rims will allow you to achieve maximum quality of the furnace, and will also significantly simplify production.
  2. If you need to equip the main “fire” part of the furnace structure without using expensive heat-resistant steel.
  3. If you are going to use the stove for cooking. In this case, you will have to make a stove for the cauldron from car wheels.

Most often, car wheels are used to create mobile (portable) street and garden wheels. cooking ovens, as well as for arranging a fire pit. The simplest version of a disk furnace involves the use of a large mass and side height, which significantly improves heat transfer performance and provides reliable protection from the effects of wind.

Stove for cauldron

It's no secret that the best option use of car wheels - for cauldron stoves. In this case, it is customary to place the structure on a special stand. Due to the round shape, the container heats up evenly, which cannot be achieved in conventional brick kilns. In addition, in the latter case there is a risk of soot settling. Disc structures distribute heat evenly and prevent unnecessary consumption of firewood, which is very important when using waste fuel.

Wood chips collected on site are not able to provide the required amount of heat for cooking pilaf or beshbarmak, and damp and rotten solutions in a massive firebox simply cannot cope with the task of heating the cooking utensils to a certain temperature level. Stove for a cauldron made from car rims excludes such a phenomenon only if it is performed exactly in accordance with the established rules.

Flue gases move along the path of least resistance. If you need to weld two separate disks and cut a combustion hole in the side, then hot gases will flow through the technological holes in the disk hub, since their total area is much larger than the mounting and axial holes.

If you reach the maximum heating temperature, then perhaps a tongue of flame will form in the axial hole, but a cauldron placed on the burner will cause the heat to go sideways.

Similar option stoves made from disks are especially in demand for cooking different types food by simmering over coals However, few people use this method these days.

For correct production stoves under the cauldron must be equipped with a tightly closing door on the loading opening. Also, the cauldron should fit tightly to the cutout of the burner, periodically closing the technological holes.

To successfully achieve such results, it is enough to cut out the middle of the hub using a screwdriver. The remaining elements will not be thrown away, because they can be used as a good grate.

Barbecue oven

If you intend to make a barbecue stove from disks, then the core does not need to be cut out. In this case, a grille is placed on the burner - a flame divider, which will act as a culinary grille-radiator. The main advantage of the design is that different temperature zones appear on the rasper, opening up wide possibilities for simultaneous preparation of different dishes.

This is very convenient when going on a picnic, where everyone can get food to their liking. A stove of this type is usually made from disks with a small amount of technological holes. Bicycle spokes are used as parts for the working grid. It is not necessary to cook them, because they are perfectly fixed to each other and with the help of heat-resistant metal glue (cold welding method).

If you need to create a potbelly stove, you can use entire disks. Due to the thick metal, the heat capacity and heat transfer time are significantly improved, but they are much worse than in the case of cast cast iron stoves. Among the disadvantages of the design is the high labor intensity of arranging an improved furnace with increased productivity work due to a complex structural configuration.

If you have a large amount of waste fuel, then when creating a stove-stove for a non-residential premises, you can refuse to use partition dividers. A similar option can be easily made from truck rims. This will allow you to achieve higher efficiency levels and more efficient heat transfer.

As a result, considering big sizes horizontal potbelly stoves, most often people prefer vertical solutions. If the task is to make a stove from disks, then the first thing you need to do is find a suitable grate and ash pan. It is important to prevent coals and hot ash from spilling onto the fire protection area.

If we talk about thermal properties, they are significantly improved with the help of both tricks:

  1. The first is to surround the upper heat part with a special annular casing made of thin steel, but not galvanized, since zinc can melt under the influence of a temperature of 440 degrees. The solution is indispensable in cases where quick heating of the room is required.
  2. The second option involves lining the furnace with any available material, which is characterized by high heat capacity and thermal conductivity.
