Domestic deciduous tree. Indoor plants in the form of a tree. Mother-in-law's tongue flower or sansevieria

In the midst of a noisy city and large high-rise buildings, I want to see more nature. Many try to compensate for the deficiency with the help ornamental plants. Small flowers on the windowsill certainly please the eye, but sometimes you want something more. That is why quite a large number of indoor trees have been bred.

The article will describe indoor ornamental trees that can be kept at home.

Indoor trees in the house

Growing trees at home is not as problematic as it seems at first glance. Each one is cared for individually, but they all need basic attention and care.

These trees are very popular because they can adapt remarkably well to different conditions. They do not need special care. Lemon and lime are the most flexible trees; they will forgive you any mistakes in maintenance.

Popular types

The following trees will decorate any room:

  • Ficus benjamina. In countries with a humid and hot climate, the tree grows of impressive size, up to 20 meters high. When kept at home, it barely grows to 3 meters. Ficus is very whimsical, it should be allocated a specific place and not moved. It is not even recommended to twist it, otherwise all the leaves will fall off. The place is chosen carefully. Ficus does not like:
  • Dark rooms.
  • Cold temperature.
  • Drafts.

To keep the plant from getting too hot, it is sprayed, and once every 30-35 days you can send the plant into the shower. In order for the ficus to please the owner for a long time, it is important to monitor the soil; it will not tolerate excessive amounts of moisture and dryness.

Ficus benjamina.

  • Laurel. An excellent choice for the home. Its height is about 1.5-2 meters. It can be easily decorated and given different shapes. A tree needs a lot sunlight, so he will be comfortable on the south side of the room. Laurel leaves have a fairly dense structure, so even direct sunlight is not able to leave burns on them. In a shady area it will lose its beauty. Also, the laurel will enjoy spraying and showering. You need to water as often as possible, especially on hot days. The soil should not dry out.

  • Deffenbachia. This plant is very common in offices. Not surprisingly, it is very beautiful, and also absorbs harmful substances in the air. It must be handled with care, especially if there are animals and children in the house; the sap of the plant is poisonous. The height of Deffenbachia reaches 2 meters. To ensure that the color of the leaves is always saturated, the tree needs a lot of light at any time of the year. During the hot period, it should be slightly shaded, otherwise the sun will burn the foliage. Due to the presence of a draft, the tree may fall lower leaves. In summer and spring, the plant needs abundant watering - up to 3 times in 7 days; in autumn and winter - once a week is enough. But Deffenbachia is happy to be sprayed all year round.

  • . The second name is indoor maple. The height of the tree reaches up to one and a half meters. It is not fussy about indoor conditions, it pleases with flowering from spring to autumn. If the room temperature does not rise above 15°C it will bloom in winter. Place the tree in a well-lit place. In summer it feels great on a balcony or loggia. In the hot season, maple is thoroughly watered; in winter, watering is moderate. If the room temperature is more than 20°C, spraying will be beneficial.

  • Hovea. Many flower growers have classified this particular tree as the best for indoor keeping. IN natural environment the height can reach up to 15 meters; it will not grow more than 2 meters in the house. In the presence of high-quality and fertile soil, it develops and grows quickly. Khoveya is absolutely not whimsical in content. Grows equally sunny side at home and in the shade. If you forget to water it and the soil dries out, nothing will happen to the plant. However, the ideal conditions for hovea are:
  • Lots of light.
  • Abundance of water.
  • High humidity with plenty of air.

  • Rapis. palm plant, which does not require special care. Mostly, low rapis, whose height is no more than one and a half meters, was grown at home. Today, tall rapis, whose height reaches 3 meters, is popular. The palm tree loves light very much, but the sun's rays should not hit it all the time; it gets along well in the shade. In order for the rapis to grow lush and evenly, the plant should be turned over. The plant does not have any special preferences, but it will be happy to be sprayed, especially on hot days. The soil needs to be kept moist, with abundant water in summer and moderate water in winter.

  • Dracaena. The plant can reach up to 3 meters in height. Its chaotic appearance will decorate any room. During the growth period, the lower foliage falls off and a unique pattern is formed on the trunk. Almost all types of dracaena love light, but they should not be placed in direct sunlight. The western or eastern side is perfect. Dracaena with dark leaves needs good lighting less than with variegated ones. The latter loses its bright color in the shade. The plant needs to be watered often, it loves water. The slightest dryness of the soil negatively affects dracaena. The leaves need to be sprayed and the dust carefully wiped off.

  • Boxwood. This tree is not afraid of any adversity. It can be planted in the garden, while in cold period do not take it into the house. It tolerates various weather. Watering is important for it, but if you accidentally forget to do it, nothing bad will happen. A small drawback of boxwood is that it grows slowly in room conditions.

  • Breadfruit. It is almost impossible to find such a plant in a regular flower shop; you should use the Internet and place an order there. The plant is quite finicky and needs careful care. It cannot tolerate heat above 20°C, it begins to hurt and withers before our eyes. If there is no air conditioning in the house, it is better to abandon such a plant.

  • Money Tree. Nicknamed the fat woman. In fact, this is not exactly a tree, the plant belongs to the genus of cacti. But it decorates the interior very nicely. The fat plant tolerates drought well, so lack of watering will not scare it. Loves light, but not direct rays. At home, the ex-tree grows slowly, but in its native conditions quickly, it can reach up to 8 meters.

  • Bonsai. Many plants can be used to create bonsai. Only Deffenbachia is not suitable for this action. The formation of a plant begins with the root system. If it is small and weakened, a beautiful, much less strong crown will not work. An ornamental tree will be stable only with a strong root system.

Bonsai can be formed when the tree is firmly rooted. The trunk of an indoor bonsai should have the following qualities:

  • By force.
  • Health.
  • No damage.
  • Excellent bark.
  • Unique curves.

In this case, an amazing and beautiful crown will be formed.

The basis of a bonsai is considered to be branches. In order to have something to form a crown from, the plant must have many branches for pruning. The growth of shoots is also important; they should grow in different directions from the trunk. To ensure they grow well, the tree is often unrolled. If you want to get a specific asymmetry, you do not need to rotate the plant.

You will get a healthy and beautiful bonsai:

  • With timely elimination of deformed and diseased shoots.
  • When removing unwanted weaves.
  • When cutting green vegetation in a timely manner.

Indoor trees, their replanting

For all ornamental trees there is one principle of care - correct and timely replanting. Indoor trees grow faster and better depending on the pot. The more space a plant has, the faster it will grow.

If you want to grow a tree small sizes, then when replanting, use a pot that is only a little larger. This rule applies only to young plants.

Tree replanting is carried out:

  • The first few years - no more than 2 times a year.
  • Subsequent years - every 3-5 years.

But it is advisable to update the soil annually. This is done this way:

  • Remove some of the soil from above.
  • Add new soil rich in useful components.

To prevent the tree from growing, it is enough just to change the soil, without changing the pot.

Placing plants in your home is not only about adding beauty and comfort to it. Greenery can improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide. Indoor trees perform this function perfectly.

In indoor plant growing, people usually give preference to beautifully flowering plants - many gardeners create collections. But some still prefer to landscape their homes only with decorative foliage.
And I am an omnivore - I grow trees, shrubs, flowers, herbs, as well as vegetables and berries - everything is interesting to me.

Today I will pay tribute to trees - I respect them for their ability to survive in indoor conditions.

Dracaena marginata

Dracaenas, ficuses, myrtles, palm trees, conifers, citrus fruits and other fruit trees - these are real trees that grow very tall in nature. But they manage to grow, bloom and bear fruit in an indoor pot, and a bonsai even in a low bowl.
And besides, the trees are large - they have a lot of greenery and are decorative all year round- in phytodesign this is an important advantage.

But trees also have their limitations. For example, if a tree grows to the ceiling, then it will not look beautiful in every room. The fact is that a large plant visually makes small room even less. Especially if the ceiling of the room is only about three meters.

When my trees grow too big, I have to prune them, rejuvenate them, or give them “to good hands,” or simply to those who have the space to have a tall tree. I often give it to schools, offices, and other organizations.

The only exceptions are trees with a narrow crown - such as Dracaena Marginata.
She stands in the corner of the room and does not try to dominate, overwhelming with her width.

Dracaena marginata

But in my opinion, it is beautiful only as long as the leaves are not too long - in this case it is much more decorative than when it becomes adult and “shaggy”. In the photo below she has already started to get “shaggy”, but is still beautiful. When almost all the leaves go down, I rejuvenate it.

And many experienced flower growers prefer to rejuvenate it. How to do this is well shown in this video.

Its young foliage is green and juicy. And mine also has a bright stripe along the edge - edged dracaena marginata.

How I rejuvenate another dracaena - bent- I’ve already shown it. There is no particular difference - they all take root perfectly at the tops and produce new shoots at the cut of the mother tree trunk.

Dracaena reflexum

Rejuvenates in the same way Cordilina straight, similar to dracaena. It grows above two meters, if allowed, but again becomes less beautiful than in its “youth”. This is the oldest plant in my house - it appeared about 20 years ago. During this time, I rejuvenated it several times and gave it to friends. Grows quickly, no hassle. Bloomed once - with lilac panicles.

Cordilina straight

This is what rooted crowns look like.

Cordilina straight

Trimming is shown and myrtle tree if it has become too large.

Look how cramped it is in a small room when a huge myrtle grows in it. And how gorgeous it would look in a large room with high ceilings.

Myrtle

And this is a small myrtle bonsai in a bowl - it takes up little space, but still looks like a tree.

My myrtle The crown is already more than half a meter. Last year it bore fruit for the first time.
There is a topic about it on the blog

In the fall of 2017 Myrtle.

Over the winter, all the ovaries dried out and fell off. It’s not the Mediterranean in my room in winter - no matter how you look at it. But I collected a handful of blue berries :-)
I'll see if there are more fruits this summer, if any at all. If not, then perhaps I’ll give him a short haircut next spring.
But today it already takes up too much space on my narrow balcony. In the video you can see its true dimensions.

Ficus- whether with large or small leaves - all are very beautiful and popular indoor trees. I often cut them and talked about it.

But I haven’t shown small-leaved for a long time ficus benjamina with two intertwined trunks. I grew it from two tiny branches. It grew for a long time without replanting in one round pot - the crown was scanty.

ficus benjamina last year

But the trunk got stronger. In the photo behind the ficus there is a coniferous tree - thuja globulus.

Ficus and thuja trunk

Of the conifers, I have only had two representatives: Konika spruce and Thuja globulus.
Shown it on the blog.

This year, a ficus with two fused trunks stands on the floor of the balcony: it is tall - 1.5 meters.

It’s difficult to photograph the whole thing: it’s tall, and the balcony is narrow - you can’t go far to get the whole thing in the frame.
I hope that after replanting it in a larger pot, it will grow a lush crown over the summer.

U ficus elastica I also grew two trunks when I planted two cuttings next to each other - I intertwined the trunks so that it would grow more slowly and the crown would be thicker.

In the photo he is still small.
Ficus elastica

But I still hit the ceiling in three years. And after trimming the crown, I released side branches both at the top and at the bottom. And he became such a moose that he had to be given to an orphanage.

From palm trees in my house only Hamedorea. I bought it in a small pot. It grows very slowly.

But in general, over time it can serve as an outdoor plant.

Codeium- (often called croton) I don’t know for sure: it is a tree in nature or a shrub. It seems there is both this and that variety.
But in my pot it looks like a tree with a woody trunk.
I only trimmed it once so that it would branch out. It is now about a meter high. It has been growing with me for 10 years.

For the last three years it has been blooming regularly even in winter.

I recently had kids nolins- bottle tree.

I planted them and grow them. I'll show you what happened later.

Well, from fruit I only have citrus fruits - blog readers have seen them many times.

This spring, the tangerine hybrid has grown so huge that it will have to be pruned. But it was a pity to cut it in the spring because of flowering.
It bloomed like an apple tree - in the video you can see how it blooms in recent years.

Last fall there were many small fruits, like cherries. Apparently, the abundant harvests of the past two seasons had an effect - the fruits were crushed.
The last winter harvest was harvested in March last year.

There the fruits were large.

Well, there is also the so-called " Money Tree" - succulent Crassula. It bears fruit sometimes in euros, sometimes in dollars, but more often it gives rubles)) I have grown Crassula many times in my life and in different sizes, formed it into one trunk and into several. I also do pruning with them sometimes.

Trimmed fat plant - so that the crown is thicker. I gave this young fat woman to my son for maintenance, but she could not bear his “departure” and returned to me.

Became cheerful after last year's pruning.
This spring I have three of them - all children of an old fat woman who died a heroic death when she dropped her from the windowsill.

And this is how she knows how to bloom when she becomes an adult. I only saw this one in a flower shop once.

I have never had any other indoor trees.
But I grew apple trees from seeds - now there are two growing in the yard - one has already bloomed.

What kind of trees do you have in your house?

Indoor trees and flowering plants from time immemorial they have created houses cozy atmosphere, bringing happiness and love, peace and tranquility to their owners.

But home gardening is becoming especially relevant right now, in the intense pace of life in large cities. After the abundance of concrete, glass and metal, people have an urgent need to create a small green oasis at home to communicate with wildlife.

Indoor trees are perfect for this. various types(coffee, lemon, dollar, money), as well as small flowering potted crops for growing on window sills and shelves (saintpaulia, spathiphyllum, low-growing varieties Chinese rose).

Indoor trees and flowers can not only feel, but also create a mood for their owners. Living plants in the house relieve stress and fatigue, give love and happiness, ennoble the interior, help purify the air from pathogens and create a special indoor microclimate. Not a single, even the most expensive composition of artificial and cut flowers can replace fresh flowers growing in pots in the house.

All plants in the house are classified according to three large groups:

  • Decorative deciduous. These include indoor trees and various plants, the aesthetic value of which lies in beautiful leaves. The leaves can be light and dark green, variegated marbled in color, and also so bright colors, which are quite capable of replacing flowers. Plants with original leaf shapes are widely used in the interior - linear, lobed, with a dissected or jagged edge.

  • Decorative flowering. These include both perennial plants that bloom all year round, as well as annual and tuberous plants. potted plants with a seasonal flowering period. Perennial flowering crops, unlike annual ones, remain decorative for a long period and do not die after flowering. Tuberous flowering plants have the peculiarity of falling asleep in winter after the flowers and leaves fall off. Annual plants widely used in the interior to create short-lived, but beautiful compositions from fresh flowers.

  • Cacti and succulents. These include representatives of various families, similar in biological and external signs. The plants are stable and unpretentious when kept indoors, compact and have an incredible variety of shapes. Thanks to your unique properties, as well as exclusively decorative flowering, this group of plants has become widespread in indoor culture.

Many ornamental plants are also fruit-bearing plants, delighting their owners with tasty and useful fruits(lemon and tangerine trees).

What crops are most common in indoor floriculture and why are they remarkable? A mini-rating of the most famous houseplants includes:

Indoor a coffee tree will be a wonderful interior decoration thanks to its large evergreen leaves and decorative snow-white flowers with a sweet aroma.

The exotic coffee tree belongs to fruit trees, the berries of which, after ripening, picking and roasting, acquire the familiar appearance of coffee beans.

Only two types of coffee trees are suitable for growing at home - Liberian and Arabian. An adult coffee plant can produce up to 0.5 kg of fruit per year.

Lemon Tree

The lemon tree is a very decorative fruit plant. Natural types of lemon are not suitable for home grown in pots, as in natural conditions they reach quite large sizes.

Therefore, breeders bred dwarf varieties lemon trees - these are Pavlovsk lemon, Maikop lemon, Genoa, etc. The evergreen lemon tree does not require special care, and with proper maintenance it is capable of bearing fruit all year round.

You can grow a lemon tree at home simply from seeds. And creating a home lemon garden from several lemon trees will not only refresh the interior, but also completely provide the average family with delicious lemons.

tangerine tree

The tangerine tree, like the lemon tree, is an evergreen citrus fruit tree.

And, although in natural conditions tangerine trees do not grow so large and overall; for growing at home, it is better to choose dwarf crops - Clementine, Unshiu, tangerine trees of the Vasya group, etc.

Mandarin is unpretentious and easy to keep at home. Similar to a lemon tree, a tangerine can be easily grown from an ordinary seed. Dark green shiny leaves, small beautiful flowers with a delicate aroma and bright orange fruits look very beautiful in the interior.

banana tree

The banana plant can be grown at home both as a fruit plant and as an ornamental plant.

Even indoors this is big herbaceous plant, very similar to a tree, reaches a height of 2 meters.

Popular varieties are the decorative velvety banana with inedible fruits and the Kiev dwarf fruit banana with large and sweet fruits.

bottle tree

The bottle tree is ideal for spacious, bright rooms. If at home it becomes a giant, then at home the bottle tree grows simply big.

The bottle tree gets its name from the thickening at the base of the trunk where this living plant organism stores water.

The bottle tree also has the ability to purify and ozonate the air, reducing the risk of respiratory diseases. The bottle tree is a solitary plant that does not require company in the interior of the room.

Chinese rose

Chinese rose - tree plant with large beautiful flowers various shades. The rose is valued in the interior precisely for its beautiful flowers. Almost all Chinese roses are in bloom warm period. Rose flowers only live for 2-3 days, but an adult Chinese rose bush constantly produces new buds, so the overall flowering period is quite long. The bred Chinese rose hybrids have not only single-color, but also two-tone flowers.

The plant is so unpretentious that a small cutting of a Chinese rose quickly grows into a large tree strewn with bright flowers.

If you periodically pinch the side shoots, the rose bush will not only be large, but also lush. The Chinese rose is one of the most favorite plants of both experienced gardeners and simply amateurs. indoor plants.

Mini Bonsai Trees

Bonsai is real living tree in miniature. These mini-trees are very popular in Japan, where growing bonsai has become an art. Growing a bonsai according to all the rules takes decades, so ordinary fans of mini-trees limit themselves to changing the shape of the pot and forming the crown of the bonsai tree.

In this case, indoor trees take on a relatively miniature appearance, but they are still far from being truly mini. Almost all types of indoor trees (ficus, maple, money tree) with a powerful root system are suitable for creating bonsai.

An original bonsai can be obtained by shaping the bends of the trunk and crown. Also important for bonsai is beautiful bark and a healthy tree trunk. The basis for creating a bonsai is the dense branches of the tree, which should be trimmed correctly to guide their growth. Even from asymmetrically growing branches you can create a beautiful asymmetrical bonsai over time. In the interior, a mini-tree looks very unusual and requires careful care.

snake tree

The snake tree gets its name from its rapid growth and spotted coloring of the trunk. This exotic perennial tuberous plant has a pronounced period of seasonal dormancy.

At the top of the only shoot of the snake tree, very decorative, complexly dissected leaves unfold, forming a thick, flat crown. To start flowering, the snake tree must have a large and developed tuber.

The inflorescence of the snake tree is very beautiful, but it smells quite unpleasant. The snake tree is intended for lovers of exotic seasonal plants.

Money (dollar) tree

Both money (Crassula) and dollar (Zamioculcas) trees bring good luck to the house in money matters. It is believed that the money tree has an impact on domestic currency, and the dollar tree has an impact on foreign currency.

Also, contrary to the well-known proverb that money cannot buy happiness, popular rumor considers these trees to be a magnet of happiness, love and luck. Monetary and dollar trees They fit perfectly into any interior and do not require particularly complex care.

Also, such indoor plants as Saintpaulia, Anthurium (male happiness), Spathiphyllum ( woman's happiness), geranium, aichrizon (tree of happiness), hoya, Dracaena sandera (bamboo of happiness), Chinese rose, calathea, oxalis and ficus. They stand guard over family happiness, bring love into the home, and contribute to the happiness of motherhood.

In the midst of a noisy city and large high-rise buildings, I want to see more nature. Many try to compensate for the deficiency with the help of ornamental plants. Placing plants in your home is not only about adding beauty and comfort to it. Greenery can improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide. Indoor trees perform this function perfectly.

It’s hard to even imagine how joyless and dreary our lives would become if the usual indoor plants were excluded from the interior of our houses. Despite the fact that living vegetation is now noticeably replaced by analogues from artificial materials, experts still consider this direction of design to be very promising. Particular attention is paid to indoor trees - large tub plants taller than one meter.

Volumetric plants, like sculptures, add uniqueness, sophistication and style to a boring interior. Moreover, these seemingly insignificant accessories can become key elements of the design of the room. It is not surprising that decorative trees are now increasingly used to decorate not only city apartments, but also areas of shopping and entertainment centers, free space in offices and shops - after all, indoor plants have many useful properties.

What are the benefits of indoor trees in an apartment?

1. Indoor trees in a city apartment are a constant source of oxygen released to replace the absorbed carbon dioxide. Some plants exude significant amounts of phytoncides and essential oils, destroying pathogens. In addition, dust particles in the air space of a residential apartment are filtered.

2. Green trees can increase indoor air humidity. When moisture evaporates, the air in the room with plants cools significantly.

3. Thanks to their green color, domestic trees have a calming effect on people. Moreover, they help in dealing with everyday stress.

4. With the help of green plants, any room will become more cozy and comfortable. Even the most boring interior will attract attention with its freshness and originality if you add ordinary indoor trees to it.

5. Houseplants do an excellent job of dividing a space into several separate ones. functional zones. Large trees or shrubs serve as natural partitions, which makes it possible to avoid complex rearrangements when renovating a room.

6. Indoor vegetation, due to its unique texture, allows you to soften some architectural elements. In an interior where there are cold surfaces and rigid structures, decorative trees perform a revitalizing function, creating a harmonious and balanced atmosphere.
