Homemade units for walk-behind tractors. Do-it-yourself accessories for a walk-behind tractor - the engineer advises. Manufacturing of other hanging structures

Very soon after purchase own plot The question of caring for him arises. If its area is small, then you can get by with a cart with hand tools. But this is not always convenient, and not everyone can do it. And if the site is larger in size, then you cannot do without an “assistant”. A walk-behind tractor comes to the rescue of many owners. But here again a problem arises: how to expand its functionality? Of course, you can purchase ready-made factory attachments in the same stores. The main thing is that there is enough money for everything. And there is another option: homemade products for a walk-behind tractor, made with your own hands. A minimum of tools and materials, a little labor - and the devices are ready. The main thing is with minimal financial costs. Read more about what and how you can make yourself later in this article.

What can be made?

The functionality of the walk-behind tractor is very wide. They just depend on additional accessories who join him. Homemade products for walk-behind tractors are a good alternative to factory-made mechanisms. The main thing is to have a little imagination and understanding of the matter. And almost anything can be made.

You can make the following units for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands:

  • Plow.
  • Cultivator.
  • Hiller.
  • Milling cutter.
  • Seeder.
  • Mower.
  • Rake.
  • Trailer.
  • Bucket (shovel).
  • Dump.

The list goes on. But it’s already clear that homemade equipment for a walk-behind tractor allows you to perform all types of work on the site.

Manufacturing stages

The entire process of making units for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands can be divided into several stages. First you need to decide what equipment is needed and what functions it will perform. For example, if we're talking about about the trailer, the design may change depending on the types of work performed. A homemade trolley for a walk-behind tractor may have the ability to unload cargo on its own. This is very convenient when it comes to transporting bulk fertilizers, soil, and harvested vegetables. In such cases, lifting the body and emptying everything is much easier than unloading it manually.

The next stage is the calculation and production of the drawing. At this stage, it is important that the walk-behind tractor and the resulting equipment can work “in pairs”. This applies to power, size, mounting method and many other factors.

After preparing the drawing, when known necessary materials and tools, you can start preparing them. The job will be completed faster if everything is prepared in advance. In this case, you will not need to quit work and go to the store for the missing parts.

And only when all stages of preparation have been completed, you can begin the actual production. Construction can take a lot of time and effort. But the result is worth it.

Required parameters

When making homemade products for a walk-behind tractor, it is important to consider factors that will allow the equipment to work correctly. You cannot assemble a unit like your neighbor’s, who works on a tractor, and connect it to a walk-behind tractor. The parameters of the equipment and attachments must be appropriate. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the following points:

  • Motoblock power. So, for equipment with a capacity of 4.5 liters. With. A load of 250 kg including the driver will be sufficient. Based on this value, you can calculate the mass of cargo transported in the trailer, the number of permissible plows, and so on.
  • Size. The area near the house, even the largest one, is still not a field. Therefore, there will probably be areas where large equipment will not fit. In addition, large (or, conversely, narrow) equipment is not always convenient to use. It may not fit between the trees or, conversely, be too narrow for the garden bed. It is necessary to take into account such dimensions in advance.

  • Provide a unit for attaching equipment to the walk-behind tractor. It can be hinged, on bushings, or bearing. You need to select it specifically for your equipment.
  • A method of fastening individual parts of equipment to each other. Solid units can be connected to each other by welding, rivets, and bolts. Choice in in this case depends on the availability of tools, time and abilities.

These are the main questions that need to be thought through. But not the only ones. In the process of making a homemade product for a walk-behind tractor, there will be many questions and nuances that will need to be carefully considered in order to make the right decision.

Trailer manufacturing

One of the most popular homemade products is a trailer. It can be considered the most basic unit for working with a walk-behind tractor. As already noted, you need to start with preparing drawings and calculations. The design may vary depending on desire, imagination and available material.

The first step is to prepare the frame. The frame is being made rectangular shape with the obligatory insertion of stiffeners. Places are provided to which elements of the chassis and attachment to the walk-behind tractor will be attached. The chassis is most often mounted on a homemade hub (the reinforcement welded to the frame is edged).

Next, the chassis is directly attached. This may use a bearing system or an axle depending on the design of the trailer. In the second case, it is better to make a removable fastening rather than a welded one. This may be necessary when repairing (replacing) the axle.

It is easier to purchase a ready-made coupling mechanism. You just need to attach it to the trailer. It is usually attached to a piece of metal pipe that is welded to the frame of the cart.

DIY plow

Reality is homemade plow for walk-behind tractor. Only in this case it is important to find accurate and correct drawings. The quality of tillage will depend on this.

The plow blade itself is usually made of 3 mm thick steel. It is important to bend it correctly. A template made from an ordinary metal pipe will help you do this correctly.

Take for the stand metal plate, the thickness of which is at least 10 mm. The degree of depth is regulated by the location of the stand on the bracket. The plowing angle is selected by tilting the walk-behind tractor. An adjusting screw can be used for this purpose.

The soil is cut and formed into a layer by the ploughshare. The traditional version is a double-sided design. But you can choose more modern version self-sharpening ploughshare. In the first case, it is necessary to periodically sharpen the equipment. This will allow you to evenly loosen the soil and cut the roots of weeds.

Homemade mower for walk-behind tractor

You can make a mower from available options. In this case, first the frame is made. Most often, a metal corner of 40x40 mm is taken as the starting material. Sometimes they take the base from factory mowers. But this is a more expensive option.

Bearings are attached to the finished frame, into which the axle for the wheels is mounted. After this, the working part is attached. The type of mower depends on its type: rotary, segmented or connected to a cart. It can be driven by a chain from the chainsaw gearbox. In the case of a rotary mower, metal discs are taken, between which knives are attached. In the second case, the knives are mounted on a metal bar. A wheel (suitable from an old baby stroller) is attached to a metal beam, which is driven by the PTO from the equipment. At this point, the homemade mower for the walk-behind tractor is ready.

We make a cultivator

A homemade cultivator for a walk-behind tractor is made from steel sheet size 150x150 mm. The cutter is made of 250x40 mm plates. The plates are connected in pairs in the form of a cutter. They are usually secured with bolts. Next, two metal pipes are taken, which are connected to each other with ready-made cutters. The entire structure is attached to the walk-behind tractor shaft.

Homemade dump

Another popular attachment for a walk-behind tractor is a blade. It can be used to clear snow and level the soil. The base is bent from a steel sheet 1-2 mm thick. Vertical stiffeners made of thicker metal are attached to it.

It is very necessary when running a household plot. Equipped with different attachments, such equipment is capable of doing almost everything from hilling plants to harvesting wood or removing garbage. It is worth noting that walk-behind tractors can hardly be called universal equipment. The list of units that can be connected to the most expensive models is limited to several types of attachments.

However, it is also not worth working only with factory units. Almost every walk-behind tractor unit needed for household needs can be made with your own hands using drawings.

Do-it-yourself attachments for the Neva walk-behind tractor

The list of attachments for all models of walk-behind tractors is very large. First of all, it includes:

  • harrows and plows;
  • mowers and rakes;
  • potato planters and potato diggers;
  • rototillers and weeders;
  • snow blowers and wood splitters;
  • seeders and dumps;
  • sprayers and pumps.

So big choice mounted units are never included in the delivery package of the Neva walk-behind tractor. It’s hard to imagine how much money is needed to purchase all the additional devices needed for a subsidiary farm. It is also necessary to remember that completely universal walk-behind tractors are practically not produced. In other words, units suitable for a certain model, are very rarely installed on another walk-behind tractor. Sometimes manufacturers provide in advance additional features to improve their equipment, which is done through the use of additional attachments. These include:

  • weights;
  • creepers;
  • additional hubs;
  • adapters;
  • transport carts;
  • thrust levers;
  • couplings.

Absolutely any such equipment can be made with your own hands or borrowed from other walk-behind tractors and remade. The main thing is to make sure that they are compatible. The maximum motor power, connection method, dimensions and weight, drawings, maximum loads and other indicators should be taken into account when developing equipment. Otherwise, you may lose money and wasted labor.

A special homemade adapter can turn a Neva walk-behind tractor into a small tractor and greatly automate housekeeping.

Its elements are:

  • metal frame;
  • cross rod;
  • hitch;
  • axle, wheels and wheel stands;
  • braces;
  • control units;
  • cart;
  • comfortable seat.

A regular trailer frame is made from any steel pipe up to 2 meters long. A hitch is attached to one end by welding. This is a unit with which the entire structure is attached to the tow bar of the walk-behind tractor. A transverse rod is welded to the other side, the size of which should be selected based on the width of the vehicle’s wheelbase. Next, braces and wheel stands are attached to the bar, which are necessary to ensure frame rigidity and shock absorption when moving around the garden. The wheels should be removed from the car trailer or garden cart.

Typically, the adapter and the attachments of the walk-behind tractor are connected using a single hitch. All functional units are controlled by a special lever with several knees. When switching them, you can regulate the change in position of the supplied attachments. You can also use an additional lever to adjust the applied force. At the end, a metal base must be attached to the transverse rod, on which the driver’s seat will be located.

At long length The adapter drawbar requires the most powerful walk-behind tractor. The power of the motor will also affect the size of the wheels and the size of the pipe from which the supporting frame will be assembled in the future.

Do-it-yourself assembly of a disc hiller for the Neva walk-behind tractor

The best when used on garden plot is considered a homemade disk-type hiller. When working with it, you need to apply a minimum amount of physical labor. By reducing the speed of movement, you can increase its maximum power, which has a good effect on work results. This disc design of the hiller is distinguished by its versatility. With this device you can do chores after planting various plants and with their intensive growth.

Part disc hiller includes:

  • racks;
  • metal frame;
  • disks;
  • special talkers.

Special talkers necessary to regulate the angle of rotation of the disks. The depth of work of the disks and the force required to complete the task directly depend on this angle. To make a person's job easier, disc hiller equipped with several plain bearings, ensuring the convenience and reliability of the product.

The discs must be made of high-quality metal 2 millimeters thick. The outer edges should be bent, and a special hole for adapters should be made in the center. They are fixed to the hiller frame. If it is not possible to make discs yourself, you need to take them from an old seeder or other similar equipment.

The hiller is capable of having a variable or fixed surface coverage width. With variable, it is possible to adjust the distance between the disks simply by moving the racks. Attachment units are assembled using welding or bolted connections.

Assembling a potato digger for the Neva walk-behind tractor with your own hands

This type of attachment for a walk-behind tractor is very helpful when harvesting potatoes and other types of plants.

The potato digger consists of the following elements:

  • ploughshare;
  • metal welded frame;
  • cleaning drum;
  • reduction unit.

A ploughshare is the movable part of such equipment, which is made of metal rods and several slightly pointed steel plates. Very sharp ends and edges on the entire plowshare structure must be blunted in such a way as to prevent cutting plant tubers during harvesting.

To make a strong frame, you need a metal corner, a piece of channel and profile pipe. The dimensions, as well as the weight of the welded frame, which depends on the weight of the materials used and specific design features, must correspond to the size and maximum power of the walk-behind tractor.

The reduction mechanism is the most important part potato diggers. To make it, you need two metal cylinders that serve as cups for all connecting nodes. This design ensures mutual operation of the driven and drive shafts. Then from a steel pipe you need make hubs, to which the transmission sprockets are attached. These elements are tightly fitted onto the bushings using special prismatic keys.

The most complex component of a potato digger is cleaning drum, the design of which includes several roller chains that fit on specialized rods. Such a unit is also called a squirrel wheel, which is mounted on two fixed axles, which makes it movable when moving. In other words, with the help of the force of the motor shaft, the potato digger ploughshare, which is attached to the moving casing, will be able to change the angle of inclination and perform digging actions while the device moves.

The inclination angle of the working mechanism and the digging depth are changed using a slider. Such a slider is made of fluoroplastic, and its technical parameters must correspond to the characteristics of the walk-behind tractor. This is, first of all, movement speed, maximum engine power and other parameters. Additionally, it is necessary to take into account the properties of the soil.

DIY snow blower assembly for the Neva walk-behind tractor

Not every person is able to purchase for himself factory snow blower. It is not always advisable to buy it for several months of use. Manually cleaning the entire surrounding area is also quite difficult. Can be made completely efficient snow removal mechanism for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands.

The easiest option is a snow blower. It consists of several main components, which are the blade and the adapter. The latter consists of several metal rods and brackets. Using rods, the blade is attached to the frame of the product, and brackets make it possible to adjust its position in various planes.

The adjustment can be made as in manual mode , so using levers or traction unit. Such a system is based on rotary mechanism, which can be removed from various transport equipment or made independently. To do this, it is worth using the mechanisms of the front wheels of the car as a basis.

In order to collect bulldozer blade it is necessary to make a metal frame covered with a tin sheet. The dimensions of the snow blower can be selected according to technical parameters the apparatus and the characteristics of the area being harvested. In the case when the paths in the yard about 75 centimeters wide, then it’s worth making a 50-centimeter blade. With such a blade you can quite easily maneuver when clearing snow.

It is attached to the lower edge of the blade, which is at an angle to the leading axis of the frame, using a reliable connection. special knife. When the angle of inclination of the knife is large, the blade easily cuts off dense layers of snow. A small angle helps move snow without a lot of power. apparatus.

Do-it-yourself assembly of universal attachment mechanisms for the Neva walk-behind tractor

Quite a few types of homemade attachments for walk-behind tractors have a similar design and operating principle. That is why when assembling DIY attachments for a walk-behind tractor, it is worth taking care of versatility. For example, a potato planter can be converted into a potato digger, and a snow removal mechanism into a small bulldozer. By slightly changing the design, one mechanism can be used for various works on personal plot. This will help save physical effort, money and storage space.

The walk-behind tractor is indispensable in modern economy. Equipped with various attachments, this equipment can do literally everything, from hilling potatoes to clearing snow or preparing firewood. At the same time, it’s a stretch to call walk-behind tractors universal: as a rule, the list of equipment that can be connected to even the most expensive models, limited to 2-3 types of hinged units. However, it is not at all necessary to be content only with what the manufacturer offers. After all, almost any of the walk-behind tractor units that may be required for running a household or gardening can be made independently.

WITHhomemade attachments for walk-behind tractors

What to do if you already have a walk-behind tractor, but it is not possible to install factory-made attachments on it? There is only one way out - to independently design the necessary functional unit, without relying on the ingenuity of the manufacturer and the generosity of market players.

The list of attachments for walk-behind tractors is very diverse. It includes:

  • plows;
  • harrows;
  • rake;
  • potato diggers, hillers and potato planters;
  • flat cutters-weeders;
  • rotary cutters;
  • seeders; sweepers and snow blowers;
  • wood splitters;
  • dumps;
  • water pumps;
  • spray pumps, etc..

Obviously, such a rich arsenal of attachments is not included in any configuration. One can only imagine how much, in addition to the walk-behind tractor itself, it will cost to purchase all the units necessary for farming. Don’t forget that there are only a few truly universal walk-behind tractors on the market. That is, equipment that fits a particular model can rarely be connected to another. Fortunately, manufacturers still provide for the possibility of modifying the manufactured walk-behind tractors, mainly due to additional. These include:

  • additional axle shafts (hubs);
  • creepers;
  • weights (weights);
  • lugs;
  • seat adapters;
  • transport carts and trailers;
  • openers (thrust arms);
  • couplings, etc.

Any of these units can be made independently or taken from other models and adapted to yours. But first of all, you should make sure that they are compatible. Power, dimensions and weight, connection method, workloads, etc. – all this should be taken into account at the development stage, otherwise you risk wasting effort and money.

Making a homemade trailer adapter

The adapter allows you to turn a walk-behind tractor into a mini-tractor and automate gardening work as much as possible.

Its design includes:

  • metal frame;
  • hitch;
  • cross bar;
  • braces;
  • wheel stands, axle and wheels;
  • controls;
  • operator seat;
  • cart or .

Simple frame for the adapter is made of a metal pipe of round or rectangular section 1.5-1.7 m long. At one end, a drawbar (hitch) is welded to it - an element with which the structure will be attached to the tow bar of the walk-behind tractor, and at the other - a transverse rod, the width of which is selected in accordance with the width of the wheelbase of the latter . Wheel stands and braces are welded to the bar, the function of which is to ensure structural rigidity and shock absorption when moving around the site. As for the wheels, they can be removed from a regular garden cart or car trailer.

As a rule, the connection between the walk-behind tractor adapter and the attachment is made using a single hitch. The control of functional units is carried out using a lever with 2 or 3 knees - by switching them you can adjust the position of the installed mounted unit. In addition, an additional lever can be used to control the applied force. Finally, in the center of the transverse rod, you need to weld a metal “leg” on which it will be placed.

The longer the adapter drawbar, the more powerful the walk-behind tractor should be. At the same time, the engine power of the latter also affects the choice of wheels, as well as the cross-section of the pipe from which the frame will be made.

The most convenient option to use is a disk hiller. To work with it, you need to exert a minimum of physical effort, and as the speed of movement decreases, its power increases, which has a positive effect on work efficiency. In addition, the disc design of the hiller is versatile - with the help of such a tool you can carry out agricultural work both immediately after planting garden crops and during the period of their intensive growth.

The design of the disc hiller includes:

  • disks;
  • T-shaped leash (frame);
  • racks;
  • screw tappers.

Talpers are designed to adjust the angle of rotation of disks. The depth of immersion of the latter, as well as the force required to perform the work, depends on the latter. To make the operator’s work easier, the hiller is equipped with a machine that ensures reliable design and ease of use.

The discs are made of alloy steel with a thickness of 1.5-2 mm. Their outer edges are curved, and in the center there is a hole for adapters with which they will be attached to the hiller frame. If it is not possible to make discs yourself, you can borrow them from an old seeder or other similar equipment.

The hiller can have a fixed or variable working width. In the second case, you can adjust the distance between the disks by moving the racks. Elements of the mounted unit are connected using bolts or welding.

Do-it-yourself potato digger for walk-behind tractor

This type of attachment greatly facilitates the process of harvesting potatoes, as well as other tuber crops.

The main structural elements of the potato digger are:

  • welded frame;
  • ploughshare;
  • editorial node;
  • cleaning drum.

The ploughshare, the moving part of the potato digger, is made of steel rods and one or more sharpened steel plates. Sharp edges and ends structural elements The plowshares are dulled so as to prevent damage to the potato tubers.

To make a welded frame, you need about 60x40 mm in size, a profiled pipe and a section of channel No. 8. Dimensions, as well as weight of the frame, which depends on the weight of the materials used and the characteristics of the adopted constructive solution, must correspond to the dimensions and power of the walk-behind tractor.

Editorial node - main element potato diggers. To make it you will need two metal cylinder, which will act as cups for the connecting bushings - this design ensures the interaction of the drive and driven shafts. Next, you need to make hubs from a metal pipe with a diameter of 25 mm, to which the transmission sprockets are welded. The latter are mounted on the bushings using prismatic keys.

The most the hard part potato diggers - drum cleaner. Its design includes a pair of roller chains of 94 links each, which are mounted on special rods. This element, called the “squirrel wheel,” is fixed on two fixed axes, which ensures its mobility during rotation. Thus, by the force of the motor shaft, the potato digger share, attached to the movable casing, will change the angle of inclination, making digging movements during the movement.

The angle of inclination of the working part and the depth of the dig are adjusted using a slider. It is made of fluoroplastic, and its parameters are selected in accordance with the characteristics of the main unit (engine power, movement speed, etc.), as well as the properties of the cultivated soil.

Homemade snow blower for walk-behind tractor

Not everyone can afford to buy a professional snow removal unit. And is it worth doing this if it will only work a few times a year? On the other hand, it is not at all necessary to clear the area manually - you can make a quite decent snow removal unit for the walk-behind tractor yourself.

Most simple option is of dump type. It consists of two main elements: the adapter and, in fact, the blade. The first consists of a pair of metal rods and three brackets. Using rods, the blade is attached to the frame of the walk-behind tractor, and the brackets provide the ability to adjust its position horizontally and vertically. This can be done manually or using a traction or lever mechanism. The basis of such a system is a rotary unit, which can be borrowed from various self-propelled vehicles or made by hand, using the front wheel units of a passenger car as a basis.

To make a bulldozer, you need to make a metal frame, which is sheathed on one side with a 1-2 mm sheet of tin. The height and width of the snow blower are selected in accordance with the parameters of the main unit - the walk-behind tractor, as well as the characteristics of the area being served. If the paths in your yard are no more than 70-80 cm wide, ideal option There will be a 50 cm blade that you can easily maneuver while clearing snow. A knife is installed on the lower edge of the blade, located at an angle relative to the main axis of the frame, using bolted or riveted connections. The greater the tilt of the knife, the easier the blade cuts off hardened layers of snow. A small angle, on the contrary, allows you to move the snow mass without a significant increase in engine power.

To increase structural rigidity, the blade can be sheathed around the perimeter with a metal corner, and the frame can be equipped with additional ribs. However, all this leads to a heavier structure and, as a result, to increased fuel consumption and engine life of the main unit.

Do-it-yourself universal attachments for a walk-behind tractor

Some types of functional units of a walk-behind tractor have a similar design and operating principle. So if you're making them yourself, think about versatility. For example, a potato digger can be modified into a potato planter, and a snow blower can be modified into a . Several changes in the design and the same unit can be used to solve various business problems - this will save not only money and effort, but also the space required for storing equipment.

It so happened that three years ago doctors gave me a pacemaker and gave me disability.

And they banned heavy physical labor. I was faced with a choice: I couldn’t do anything, but I wanted to do it. Fortunately, I am an engineer by profession, and I decided to make equipment that would make work on the site easier.

The time to dig potatoes was approaching. And within 10 days I had to make a potato digger attached to a walk-behind tractor.

I looked at the design in the store and on the Internet, made a similar one... and was dissatisfied with the result. I modified it: I simplified the design as much as possible, made it lighter - and it turned out to be an excellent tiny potato digger without rattling. It took about a month to do everything. But the potato digger turned out just right!

Now I hook it to the walk-behind tractor, start the engine - let's go! You can walk behind the unit, you can just watch how it works from the side - this does not affect the efficiency of work.

Now I’ll tell you more about the design. The frame of the potato digger is made of steel profile, and the towbar for attaching to the walk-behind tractor is made of channel. I took the support wheels from old painting equipment, secured them to the frame using a square and welded corners, making them adjustable to change the digging depth.

The ploughshare is made of metal from an old container, only cutting edge reinforced with durable metal from a steel saw. I welded steel rods from wire 8 mm thick onto the ploughshare.

A shaft on bearings with a pulley from washing machine on one side and an eccentric on the other. Using a belt drive, the torque from the engine is transmitted to the pulley, then with the help of rods the back-and-forth movements are transmitted to the screen. In the design of the potato digger I used homemade silent blocks made of metal bushings and sleeves with a thread reinforcement.

I painted the parts of the potato digger in the appropriate colors and assembled them into one structure. The result is a fairly light but durable potato digger. It copes with its task “excellently”.

During work, however, an unexpected problem arose: the potato digger quickly became clogged with tops. It is contraindicated for me to mow by hand.

I had to use my wits again and as soon as possible from a chainsaw, metal corner from armored mesh bed, wheels from a baby stroller and steel pipes, a brush cutter was created for mowing potato tops. By the way, I now use the same scythe to harvest hay, of which a lot is required on the farm.

From the corner with welding machine I made a frame for a brush cutter, welded a steering wheel from pipes for control (I attached the engine throttle control lever to it). I installed and fixed the chainsaw on the frame, having first turned the gearbox with the drive sprocket down. I secured it to the drive sprocket through the connecting sleeve. cutting knife made of high strength steel.

I installed the frame of the brush cutter on three wheels from a baby stroller. Why three? Because the fourth wheel interferes with the process of laying tops between rows. I made a bracket from a steel rod to lift the lying tops and move them to the left aisle. In this way, a brush cutter for mowing potato tops was easily and quickly made.

After the rows were mowed, I hooked the potato digger to the walk-behind tractor and started digging... Potato harvesting simply turned into a game! I playfully mowed it, playfully dug it up. The only difficulty is that my wife and I have to pick the potatoes by hand. But the time will come, let's think carefully, and this problem will also be solved.

By the way, at the regional exhibition-fair of technical and folk art“And the impossible is possible” my potato digger took first place in the category “Decorative and Applied Arts” (inventions of a technical nature).

In conclusion, I want to say that you can do everything: raise good children, build a house, plant a tree, make any unit, get good harvests. The main thing is that there is a desire.

To expand the capabilities of the walk-behind tractor, it is supplemented with attachments. Manufacturers offer for all models wide choose plows, hillers, potato planters and potato diggers.

Considering the cost of industrial attachments for a walk-behind tractor, some of it can be made with your own hands.

1 Additions to walk-behind tractors

The most labor-intensive process on earth is plowing, which is why they are sold together with a rototiller and a plow. Sometimes their equipment includes devices for weeding and hilling. For heavy walk-behind tractors, the kit often includes a plow, a potato planter and potato digger, and a rotary mower.

2 From motor cultivators to mini-tractors

Front adapter for walk-behind tractor makes it easier to work on site and significantly improve productivity. Even with the simplest adapter (with a steering wheel, wheels, and an operator’s seat), diesel walk-behind tractors turn into real mini-tractors. From experience, with the adapter it speeds up at least twice.

2.1 DIY front adapter for walk-behind tractor

You can make an adapter similar to the industrial one yourself. When designing your first homemade adapter, it is advisable to start with simple designs. For example, from a device based on metal pipe approximately 1.5-1.8 m long and a wheel pair. On one side of the pipe it is necessary to weld a transverse rod, and to it - the wheel stands.

To make an adapter for a front-type walk-behind tractor, the wheels of a car trailer, motorcycle stroller, other old equipment, construction wheels or wheels are suitable. The pipe cross-section and diameter depend on the power of the diesel walk-behind tractors used.

The length of the cross member is selected depending on the required track width. For most types of work, 50-60 cm is enough. At the top center of the crossbar there will be an operator’s seat post and a brake lever. It is supposed to be welded at the second end of the pipe. The hitch is a rod with a welded tee, not fully inserted into the pipe and clamped with a bolt.

Aerobatics is to make a design with steering control.

For this purpose, you can use a steering rack with tie rods, for example, from a car or truck. There is also one that includes steering with rods.

The column is fixed to the frame in front of the adapter. A downward-pointing lever is welded or bolted near the hitch, and a steering rod is attached to it. The do-it-yourself attachment to the walk-behind tractor with steering control is ready. When the steering wheel rotates, the rod will turn the walk-behind tractor.

The design of both attachments and homemade adapters for walk-behind tractors is not complicated. If you have a workshop and parts from unnecessary equipment, it is quite possible to improve the motorcycle assistant yourself. The upgrade will increase the speed and quality of work and make the process more comfortable.
