  • rosin;

Therefore, the chemical formula of soap is conventionally written as follows: R-COOMe, where R is a radical containing from 8 to 20 or more carbon atoms. Me is a metal, alkaline or alkaline earth.

  • adhesive - not higher than 47%.

Naphthenic acids, released during the purification of petroleum products (gasoline, kerosene, etc.), are also used for soap production. For this purpose, petroleum products are treated with a solution of sodium hydroxide and an aqueous solution of sodium salts of naphthenic acids (monocarboxylic acids of the cyclopentane and cyclohexane series) is obtained. Technology for making soap at home

In order to prepare soap at home, you must follow the following sequence of operations:

If we try to define this process, then washing can be called cleaning a contaminated surface with a liquid containing a detergent or a system of detergents. Water is mainly used as a liquid in everyday life. A good cleaning system should perform a dual function: remove dirt from the surface being cleaned and transfer it into an aqueous solution. This means that the detergent must also have a dual function: the ability to interact with the pollutant and the ability to transfer it into water or an aqueous solution. Therefore, a detergent molecule must have hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts. "Phobos" in Greek means fear. Fear. "Secrets of Soap Making"

Purpose: to study the process of saponification of higher fatty acids.

Having studied the theory, we will try to make soap in practice by cooking it in an artisanal way.

To make our soap safe for health, we will use natural raw materials.

We use the following equipment and raw materials:

· round flat-bottomed flask with a capacity of 1000 cm3,

· glass rod,

· tripod with accessories,

· alcohol lamp,

· porcelain glasses with a capacity of 500 cm3 and 200 cm3,

· porcelain spoon,

· tweezers,

· technical scales,

· glass glass with a capacity of 100 cm3,

· beef fat 70g,

pork lard 30g,

· ethyl alcohol 20 ml,

· Na2CO3 solution,

NaCl solution 20% 200 ml,

· 2 drops eucalyptus oil, aromatic substance dissolved in alcohol, scraps of fabric measuring 5X5 cm,

· mold for pressing soap.

· Weigh 70 g of beef and 30 g of pork fat on a technical scale and place it in a 1000 cm3 flask mounted on a tripod.

· Pour a 20% NaCl solution into the resulting mixture and heat the mixture again until the soap is completely separated.

· Unlike hot water, soap is almost insoluble in a solution of table salt. Therefore, when salted out, it separates from the solution and floats up.

· Let the mixture cool a little, collect the released layer of soap with a spoon onto a piece of cloth, wrap it (you need to work with rubber gloves!) and rinse in cold water.

· After squeezing it lightly, transfer it to another piece of fabric.

· Let's check the pH of the soap (the normal pH level is 6-7). Ours was higher, so we salted the soap again and washed it with water.

Our second experience will be to obtain toilet soap.

To obtain toilet soap, kernel soap is crushed and kneaded. Then add 2 drops of eucalyptus oil (essential oil, liquid, yellow color, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent).

Studying the properties of soap

To study the properties of soap, it is necessary to conduct a series of experiments confirming its cleaning properties. To do this you should:

1. Pour 5 ml of distilled water into one test tube, the same amount of tap water into another, place a piece of soap in each.

2. Close the stoppers and shake both test tubes simultaneously for several seconds.

3. Place the test tubes in a rack and use a stopwatch to determine how long the foam remains in each test tube. In a test tube with distilled water, the foam lasts for 30 seconds, and with tap water for 10 seconds.

4. Note the type of contents of each test tube. The solution became cloudy from soap in two test tubes.

5. Using universal indicator paper, determine the acidity of the soap solution. The soap solution has a slightly alkaline environment.

6. The presence of glycerol in the reaction mixture can be detected using a qualitative reaction to polyhydric alcohols, i.e., by adding freshly prepared copper hydroxide. When copper hydroxide was added to the test tubes, the solution turned bright blue.

Conclusions:

· soap made at home smells pleasant, foams and lathers well, has antibacterial properties and is environmentally friendly;

· soap has a slightly alkaline reaction;

· gives a characteristic reaction to glycerol content.

The structure of soap, its properties

Soaps are sodium or potassium salts of higher fatty acids (Scheme 1), which hydrolyze in an aqueous solution to form acid and alkali.

General formula of solid soap:

Salts formed by strong alkali metal bases and weak carboxylic acids undergo hydrolysis:

The resulting alkali emulsifies, partially decomposes fats and thus releases dirt stuck to the fabric. Carboxylic acids with water form foam, which captures dirt particles. Potassium salts are more soluble in water than sodium salts and therefore have stronger cleaning properties.

The hydrophobic portion of the soap penetrates the hydrophobic contaminant, resulting in the surface of each contaminant particle being surrounded by a shell of hydrophilic groups. They interact with polar water molecules. Due to this, the ions of the detergent, along with the contamination, are detached from the surface of the fabric and pass into the aqueous environment. This is how the contaminated surface is cleaned with a detergent.

Soap production consists of two stages: chemical and mechanical. At the first stage (soap cooking), an aqueous solution of sodium (less often potassium) salts, fatty acids or their substitutes is obtained.

The production of laundry soap is completed at the salting out stage, during which the soap is cleaned from protein, coloring and mechanical impurities. The production of toilet soap goes through all stages machining. The most important of these is grinding, i.e. transferring sound soap into a solution by boiling with hot water and repeated salting out. In this case, the soap turns out to be especially clean and light.

Washing powders can:

Irritate the respiratory tract;

Stimulate the penetration of toxic substances into the skin;

Cause allergies and skin dermatitis.

In all these cases, it is necessary to switch to using soap, the only drawback which is that it dries out the skin.

If soap was made from animal or vegetable fats, then glycerin formed during saponification is separated from the solution after separating the kernel, which is widely used: in production explosives and polymer resins, as a fabric and leather softener, in the manufacture of perfumes, cosmetics and medical preparations, in the production of confectionery products.

In the production of soap, naphthenic acids are used, released during the purification of petroleum products (gasoline, kerosene). For this purpose, petroleum products are treated with a solution of sodium hydroxide and an aqueous solution of sodium salts of naphthenic acids is obtained. This solution is evaporated and treated with table salt, as a result of which a dark-colored, ointment-like mass—soap naft—floats to the surface of the solution. To clean soaponaft, it is treated with sulfuric acid. This water-insoluble product is called asidol or asidol-mylonaft. Soap is made directly from asidol.

It's hard to put into words how much I like it natural solid soap– in my family it is held in higher esteem than shower gel or liquid hand soap.

Today I’ll tell you about the organic products that impressed me the most. And I’ll start, according to tradition, with those ordered on the Iherb website.

Soap South of France I really like the iHerb product because of its ergonomic oval shape (it’s comfortable to hold in your hands), economical consumption and, of course, natural composition. My favorites that I've tried are: Lavender Fields lavender soap(link) and with Provencal herbs Herbes De Provence(link ). Lavender smells very naturally of lavender, and soap with Provençal herbs has an unobtrusive herbal aroma.
This soap does not dry out the skin, which is also a big plus.

Composition of soap with Provencal herbs: Mass balance sustainable palm oil, saponified coconut oil, vegetable glycerin, organic shea butter, natural colorants, blends of natural and essential oils and fragrance.

Another “soap” brand from Iherb that I dearly love is One with Nature(the title photo shows their soap in the center). They have large bars of soap (200 g), which, nevertheless, are pleasant and comfortable to hold in your hands. They last for a very long time and do not dry out the skin, although they are washed off until they “squeak.” I like lavender soap, although I warn you that it has a very strong, ethereal aroma that can be felt as soon as you open the package (link to this soap).
I like it even more than the lavender One with Nature Dead Sea mud soap, Dead Sea Mud Soap Bar (link to this soap). It is valuable not for its aroma (soap has practically none), but for its small exfoliating particles - I really like this scrub effect both when washing my hands and when washing my body.
But there is also, in my opinion, a less successful example - One with Nature Triple Milled Soap, Peppermint (link). I took it for the summer, hoping for the cooling menthol effect. At first the soap smelled pleasantly of mint, but then the usual soapy smell began to appear in it (almost like a “household soap”). In addition, it seemed to me that this soap dries out the skin a little.

Scented soap HONEYMANIA™ by The Body Shop It’s not called fragrant for nothing: it scents the entire bathroom. Moreover, in my opinion, the smell is more reminiscent honey acacia than honey, which is a big plus for me.
I liked the design (the soap is translucent) and the small size; when wet, the soap is pleasantly slippery and foams well. Doesn't get wet or dry out the skin.

Compound: The base of sodium palmate soap is palm oil, which is very good.

Pleasantly pleased soap also from Weleda. I tried soap with calendula, which can be used for both adults and children, and rosemary soap. They differ, it seemed to me, only in their aromas - they are quite weakly expressed and do not remain on the skin. But the soap doesn’t dry out at all, I even tried washing my face with it.
Ingredients of rosemary soap: soap base made from palm, coconut and olive oil, rosemary oil, glycerin, mixture of natural essential oils, malt extract, table salt.
Ingredients of soap with calendula: soap base of palm, coconut and olive oils, water, glycerin, a mixture of natural essential oils, extracts of calendula flowers, chamomile, orris root and tricolor violet, rice and malt, table salt.

I thought it was wonderful clear soap from L’Occitane: Genipalou soap has a very pleasant fruity-floral aroma, and "Victoria Regia"- floral-aquatic. They scent the entire bathroom, it's a blast! Unfortunately, the scent does not last long on the skin, but that is not what soap is needed for. It copes with all the main functions perfectly, does not dry out (despite the fact that the soap base is palm oil mixed with less natural sodium stearate), does not get wet in water, and foams well. It’s even a pity that it has such a small size (75 g).

Contains exfoliating particles, the aroma is pleasant, but weakly expressed. In this sense, it loses to the transparent “Zhenipal” and “Victoria Regia”, but it wins in design and composition (there is no sodium stearate).

Another interesting thing soap sold in the Caucasus and on the Internet - "Tamba". My mother brought it to me from a Caucasian resort.


Soap contains Tambukan healing mud, exfoliating particles of volcanic pumice, coffee and many other benefits.
His promises are very loud.


The devil dared me to believe them 😀 The instructions for the soap say that it can be used as a mask. I left this soap on for literally a couple of minutes: my face has never burned as much as it did then in my life. I thought I wouldn’t live to see the morning :)))) There was nothing to “put out” the skin.
But for the hands and especially for the body (for the butt and thighs, for example, pumice stone and coffee!) this soap is a great thing!
And the design is cool:
