Aggression: causes, types, symptoms and treatment methods. Attacks of aggression treatment. You feel protected next to a real man

When aggression manifests itself in men, the reasons for this phenomenon can be very different - from a natural reaction to a stressful situation to somatic and mental pathology. In some cases, aggressiveness can be isolated, in others it becomes part of the personality, a disease that turns the life of the aggressor himself and those around him into a heavy burden, full of fear and danger.

What is aggression

This phenomenon has been considered since different points vision. Its definition is present in jurisprudence, psychology, and psychiatry. The young science of ethology, which studies the behavior of animals, deals with aggressive behavior, including in humans. Man comes to the attention of ethologists as the bearer of a huge complex of instincts inherited from a long line of ancestors at different evolutionary stages of the formation and development of the species Homo sapiens.

Aggression is an attack of anger. This anger can be triggered by external factors. In this case, aggression is called motivated. Most often, it is a consequence of strong fear that appears when there is a real threat to life, health or the integrity of property.

Unmotivated aggression manifests itself as inappropriate behavior that has no real reason. Hence its name.

Ethologists believe that the main reason for any aggression is fear. In some cases, it arises in the form of an adequate reaction to a real situation. In other cases, outbursts of aggression represent unmotivated impulses to dump negative emotions on a convenient object.

Oddly enough, any form of aggression, even the most irrational, has its own reason. Abruptly manifested rage allows a person to react to danger in time, avoiding negative consequences. Moreover, the reaction can be any. A person can run away, attack with unprecedented force, frightening or even killing the enemy. This rational expression of anger is salutary in nature.

Irrational aggression also has its meaning. It is usually a way of asserting oneself in communities where there is an official or social hierarchy. However, aggression can be a manifestation of mental illness or promiscuity of a person in authority.

Male aggression and its features

It is believed that uncontrolled aggression is most characteristic of men. However, women can also be irrationally and destructively aggressive. Moreover, women's screams, swearing, and anger are sometimes protracted. It can be more difficult to bring a woman out of such an attack than a man.

What is the difference between a man's manifestation of rage and a woman's? The specificity lies not only in hormonal principles, but also in differences in the instinctive basis of behavior.

Despite the increase in the number of women who live according to male laws, the psyche of representatives of different sexes still has significant differences.

Why do attacks of aggression occur in men? If we agree that men are indeed characterized by stronger and more frequent attacks of unmotivated rage, then this can be explained as follows:

  1. Excess testosterone. This hormone determines sexual activity. However, too much of it can provoke outbursts of sudden irritation that turn into rage.
  2. Men, by the structure of their psyche and instinctive base, are warriors. This property, of course, is realized in each member of the stronger sex in its own way, but on average, attacks of rage in men are caused by their constant readiness for combat. The function of a protector, and to some extent an invader, is also reinforced by social stereotypes, which places increased demands on men, creating nervous tension.
  3. Man, by his evolutionary origin, is a social being. This means that he has a highly developed instinct for the hierarchical structure of the community. He needs to constantly prove his superiority over others. This subconscious desire in women manifests itself mainly in acquisitiveness, and in men - in the form of sudden attacks of aggression.

All these reasons explain, but do not justify, behavior that does not correspond to the species name of man - Homo sapiens.

Forms of manifestation of aggression

The problem in our society is that male aggression is considered normal. This is something we have to reckon with and put up with. This position of society costs him dearly, but the stereotype of tolerance for male emotional incontinence in society is very stable.

It turns out that the strong half of humanity must be weak. After all, in order to restrain your emotions, you need a lot of inner strength.

There are 2 forms of manifestation of aggression. One of them is verbal, when a person’s entire negativity manifests itself in the form of shouting, profanity, threats and insults. Another form is of the nature of physical impact in the form of beatings, murders, and destruction. In this case, physical impact can be directed not only at humans, but also at animals. To some extent, hunting can be considered a form of aggression when man walking killing animals not for food, but for pleasure.

Most often, aggression is directed at other people, animals, and household objects. For example, breaking dishes is a clear biased behavior when the desire to beat or kill a person is replaced by loud breaking of plates, cups, windows, household appliances.

However, there is also auto-aggression, when negative emotions are directed at oneself. This type of aggression can manifest itself in public refusal or consumption junk food, suicide attempts, which necessarily occur in large crowds of people. Self-incrimination can also be classified as auto-aggression, when a person declares himself guilty of something that only indirectly concerns him.

There is another manifestation of predominantly male aggression, which is called boss syndrome. The habit of yelling at subordinates is not a way of leadership. To some extent, this is a way of hypertrophied self-affirmation. Hypertrophy manifests itself in the inadequacy of aggressive behavior, because a boss is a person who already has superiority in relation to his subordinates, sufficient to satisfy his ambitions.

Managing by yelling, cursing, insulting and threatening is not a management style, but a manifestation of promiscuity. Successful leader A person who manages a team correctly can maintain order calmly, quietly, and even in a whisper. If such orders are carried out quickly and correctly, then this manager is in the right place.

Is boss syndrome a typically male form of aggression? If we consider that most bosses are men, then this style of combining leadership with wild aggression can be called typically masculine. Those women who, having power, allow themselves such a disgusting leadership style, actually imitate men, which in their opinion strengthens their position.

Reason and justification

Aggression, manifested in different forms, and especially in attacks of severe rage, can be a symptom of nervous and mental disorders. However, most often this is a manifestation of mental weakness. A person begins to enjoy the sudden release of excess energy, superiority over others, and most importantly, his own impunity. Such a person understands perfectly well when to flare up and when not to. You can yell at your wife, hit a child, or kick a dog in your own home with impunity.

All of these are criminal offenses. Only domestic violence often goes unnoticed by law enforcement agencies. Household members suffering from the painful or unbridled aggression of the father of the family begin to be protected only when visible signs of regular beatings appear to everyone.

Why does aggression become a habit? But because there are a number of justifications for such actions. A man can do all this because:

  • he is the breadwinner;
  • he gets tired at work;
  • he is responsible;
  • It’s their own fault - they brought it on;
  • everyone here is babbling;
  • they prevent him from resting, etc.

The presence of such arguments is a symptom of mental destruction. We are not talking about nervous and mental illnesses. This pathology is rather mental. This is a combination of weakness, cruelty and licentiousness.

Consequences of unmotivated aggression

Despite the fact that many people suffering from chronic aggression as a drug addiction derive pleasure from their actions, such actions are extremely harmful for both the object and the subject.

Those who suffer most from the tyranny of a hot-tempered person are all those who are forced to live with him under the same roof. Children who are forced to constantly be in fear of negative influences usually get sick, their fate is full of problems and suffering. They grow up unhappy and complex. The wives of such aggressors grow old and die early.

If a boss constantly yells at his subordinates, he creates an environment of fear and hostility. Such a person is surrounded by unreliable people. Action always causes reaction. People who are always humiliated do not carry out orders with a light heart, deliberately or out of ignorance do not do necessary work. Provided, of course, that this sabotage does not become obvious, provocative and dangerous for one’s career.

Typically, people with chronic aggression have problems with business. For example, if the owner or manager of a store publicly loudly reprimands his subordinates, then many people will try not to go to such a store. outlet. Why witness unpleasant scenes if there is another store within walking distance where a friendly atmosphere is created.

The subject of habitual aggression is also in for trouble. Screaming, threats, humiliation and even assault over time become not only a habit, but also a need. As a result, a person begins to shout not only at those who depend on him, but also at those on whom he himself depends. It is clear that the career of such a person does not develop in the best possible way. The problem also lies in the fact that not all people who are led by emotions, hormones and instincts can stop in time. A person who has become a chronic aggressor, even with the threat of losing his family and job, is not able to stop.

Scientists often consider the phenomenon of male aggression in the context of social phenomena. Uncontrollable rage for far-fetched or exaggerated reasons is a breeding ground for organizing social unrest. Men often express their rage not individually, but collectively. Natural pogroms after football matches represent a striking example of a collective manifestation of unmotivated aggression. Such people easily succumb to calls to smash and beat for any reason.

So unmotivated aggression in men gives rise to problems not only medical, psychological and family character. This is negative social phenomenon threatening the stability and well-being of society.

The reasons for aggressive behavior can be troubles at work, financial difficulties or everyday life. In men, this may be a consequence of prolonged sexual abstinence or jealousy. Such behavior is always unpleasant both to others and to the aggressor himself. Unlike clinical villains, who enjoy the outburst of negativity on others, healthy people, after bouts of rage, experience remorse and try to make amends.

    Types of aggression

    The famous psychologist Erich Fromm identified two main types of aggression: benign - the purpose of which is to protect one’s own interests and malignant - an acquired model of behavior associated with humiliation, exerting psychological pressure or even physical violence against others in order to increase one’s authority. Today, psychologists divide aggression into the following types:

    1. 1. Active. Seen in people with destructive behavior, which is characterized by a predominance physical methods reprisals: swearing, screaming, constant dissatisfaction, intonation, facial expressions and gestures.
    2. 2. Passive. It is more common in families with difficult relationships, when spouses ignore any requests from each other without entering into conflicts. This is typical for both women and men. Over time, negative emotions accumulate and one day spill out. Danger passive aggression The fact is that it is she who becomes the cause of serious crimes against loved ones and relatives.
    3. 3. Auto aggression. This condition is associated with negative energy, directed inwards. A person susceptible to auto-aggression causes physical harm (even serious harm) to himself during attacks.
    4. 4. Drug and alcohol. Occurs in a state of alcohol or drug intoxication due to the death of nerve cells. The person loses the ability to perceive correctly the world, surrendering to primitive instincts.
    5. 5. Family. It consists of moral or physical pressure from one partner towards the other. Typically, the cause of such aggression is sexual dissatisfaction, jealousy, financial issues and lack of mutual understanding. In the animal world, males show precisely this type of aggression: whoever growls loudest owns the territory. This behavior (usually in men) destroys the mental health of relatives who are forced to be close to the aggressor. The extreme form of this type of aggression is a transition from threats and abuse to physical violence.
    6. 6. Instrumental. Serves as a tool to obtain the desired result. For example, a person has the goal of boarding a shuttle bus, but free places are missing. He uses aggression towards one of the passengers so that he gives up his seat.
    7. 7. Targeted or motivated. Pre-planned actions against a specific person. This could be revenge for betrayal, a desire to humiliate someone. Targeted aggression is usually shown by people who were raised in a dysfunctional family and did not know the care of their relatives.

    The most common types of aggression are alcoholic and family. In such cases, people often ignore the help of psychologists and if the attacks do not affect others, relatives try to keep it secret. For this reason, such situations have become the norm in society, especially with regard to male aggression.

    Causes

    Uncontrolled aggression can manifest itself for certain psychological reasons or be a sign of the development of a serious pathology:

    1. 1. Constant overwork and stress. Due to an overly active rhythm modern life people are constantly sleep deprived and tired. This leads to increased irritability and short temper. Usually a person is not aware of such emotions, and when accumulated negativity is expressed in attacks of aggression, he does not understand the reasons for such a reaction.
    2. 2. Hyperthyroidism- hormonal disorders, disruption of activity thyroid gland. This syndrome occurs more often in women. A person can feel hungry but still be underweight. A large amount of food consumed does not affect your figure in any way. Symptoms of the pathology are: increased nervousness, excessive activity, redness of the skin and increased sweating.
    3. 3. Excess weight. Excess fat promotes the production of estrogen in the body, which has a negative effect on the psyche. To prevent this from happening, it is enough to get rid of excess weight.
    4. 4. Tumors and injuries. Increased excitability is often associated with damage to the cerebral cortex. At the same time, aggression and excessive activity are replaced by apathy. All of these symptoms indicate serious injury or the development of a malignant neoplasm.
    5. 5. Personality disorders. Many people suffering from schizophrenia live normal lives and pose no danger to society. During periods of exacerbation, they experience an increase in aggressiveness, which requires special treatment.
    6. 6. Neurological diseases. Uncontrolled attacks of aggression can be a sign of serious pathologies and often lead to the development of Alzheimer's disease. The patient gradually loses the meaning of life and withdraws into himself. Signs of pathology are increased aggressiveness and partial memory loss.
    7. 7. Sociopathy, stress disorders and alcoholism. The first includes a character anomaly, when the patient does not need to communicate and is even afraid of it. This congenital pathology associated with underdevelopment of the nervous system. Stress disorders lead to hostility, especially when the person is regularly in the middle of problems. Uncontrollable outbursts of aggression are a symptom of alcoholism.

    Features of aggression in men

    In addition to the reasons listed, uncontrollable outbursts of aggression are characteristic of male psychopaths. They are distinguished by pronounced emotionality, lack of discipline and restraint. Typically, such people have an alcohol addiction and a tendency to aggression and conflict. In relation to their partners, psychopaths often show excessive care and helpfulness: they look after beautifully and smile. All this is disingenuous. With this disease, a man is able to pretend and deceive a woman for a long time, after which, in a fit, he can humiliate, insult and abandon her.

    A huge proportion of aggressive outbursts in men are due to hormonal imbalances. Human emotions largely depend on the ratio of important hormones, the lack of which leads not only to aggression, but also to serious depression or severe psychiatric pathologies. The hormone testosterone is responsible for sexual desire and aggression. That's why very rude and angry men are called "testosterone males." A lack of serotonin contributes to the development of constant dissatisfaction.

    Sudden irritability in men may be a sign of a midlife crisis. The maximalism characteristic of young men passes, and a person begins to carefully weigh all his decisions. He doubts almost everything: his career, his spouse, his friends. Such soul-searching, coupled with a sense of missed opportunities, destroys nerve cells, make a man less tolerant and sociable. He thinks there is still time to completely change his life at once. It seems that no one understands this and such ill-wishers can be put in their place by force. This condition passes after a certain time. It is important to understand that periods of depression are normal and not a reason to ruin your life.

    The next peak of the age crisis is retirement. Men endure this period much more difficultly than women. It seems that life has stopped, and those around you have ceased to respect you immediately after retirement.

    Among women

    Women's aggression is not always self-defense. One of important reasons psychologists consider weak character, lack of understanding of others and inability to adapt to life’s troubles. Constant problems and lack of help in solving them result in emotional breakdowns. Aggressive energy directed in the right direction allows a woman not only to overcome difficulties, but also to avoid threats. Experts believe that short bouts of aggression can activate vital energy.

    The modern rhythm of life, troubles in school or relationships with a guy become the cause of aggression in girls and women. They justify their behavior money problems or lack of love and attention. As a result, they take it out on their partner and children. Physical violence is a rare occurrence among the fairer sex, but they can deliberately ruin things or break dishes.

    Uncontrollable outbursts of aggression are often associated with postpartum depression. The birth of a baby and caring for him places a great burden on a woman’s shoulders. During this period, hormonal changes occur in the body, the mother becomes more sensitive and often cannot cope with her emotions. After childbirth, your whole life is turned upside down: your favorite job is a thing of the past, an incredible amount of household chores appears, and there is neither time nor energy for hobbies. All this drives a woman into despair, she becomes nervous and takes out all the negativity not only on her loved ones, but also on her child.

    To alleviate the condition and prevent attacks of anger, it is necessary to divide responsibilities among all family members.

    In children and adolescents

    Unmotivated attacks of aggression in a child may arise due to proper education. Excessive care or lack thereof is deposited in the child’s mind. It is difficult to correct this, since children perceive such an attitude very acutely. In boys, the peak of aggressiveness occurs at 13-14 years old, in girls - at 11-12. The child becomes angry after not receiving the desired result or for no reason at all. All teenagers are sure that no one understands them.

    The result is constant irritability and isolation. In such cases, parents should not put pressure on the child, but letting everything take its course is also dangerous.

    Psychologists identify the following reasons that cause childhood aggression:

    • lack of emotional connection with loved ones;
    • aggressive behavior of one of the parents;
    • disrespect for the child;
    • hostile or indifferent attitude;
    • lack of freedom;
    • impossibility of self-realization.

    Thus, parents themselves can provoke aggression in a child. It is important to remember that the lack of proper upbringing is main reason development of a pathological condition, which may lead to the need for treatment.

    Treatment

    It’s good if a person is afraid of his rage, fears irreparable consequences, soberly assesses the situation and seeks help from specialists. Finding the cause of aggressive behavior and treating it is the job of a psychiatrist.

    The specialist checks for the presence or absence of influence on the psyche of factors such as past traumas, hormonal imbalances, and lack of routine. After this, if there are no problems that need to be treated with medications, the patient is referred to a psychologist.

    The psychologist will recommend changing the pace of life: rest more, take a vacation. It is very important to stop aggression by switching to another activity: a hobby or sport, to give vent to negativity with the help of moderate physical activity. This state can be sublimated into other emotions, but only in the absence of danger to others.

    In cases of severe pathology, the psychologist prescribes sedatives. Tranquilizers and antidepressants are recommended only in exceptional situations. Drug therapy at home is carried out under the supervision of a therapist. Most effective methods therapy for outbreaks of aggression: water procedures, physiotherapy, massage.

    Long-term anger control

    Psychologists advise:

    1. 1. Transfer a number of responsibilities to subordinates and other family members. With hard work and a lot of household chores, you need to reduce the list of daily tasks and leave time for proper rest.
    2. 2. Avoid stressful situations. You need to try to determine for yourself the most common reason irritability. If you don’t like riding on an overloaded bus, taking a taxi or walking. If this is forced communication with an unpleasant colleague, find another job, even with a lower salary. This will help maintain your health, because the consequences of stress often become problems with the heart and other vital organs.
    3. 3. Sleep at least 7–8 hours a day. Most people don't feel well after 5 hours of sleep. Coffee and energy drinks will not help here, since the body does not recover completely during this time. As a result, accumulated fatigue is expressed in attacks of anger and the development of various diseases.
    4. 4. At the first sign of irritation, drink herbal tea: with mint, lemon balm, or use natural-based sedatives.
    5. 5. Learn to fight aggression peacefully: beat a pillow, do push-ups, break an unnecessary plate. The main thing is not to harm anyone.
    6. 6. Contact with water. You can wash the dishes, take a bath.
    7. 7. Learn some relaxation exercises from visualization, meditation or breathing exercises.
    8. 8. Go to the football and emotionally cheer for your favorite team.
    9. 9. Workout. Some people are suitable for active exercises (dancing, running), others - gymnastics or yoga. You need to be careful about wrestling: some types help get rid of negative emotions, others only perpetuate physical aggression.

    You need to learn how to correctly and constructively conflict with others - this will allow you to resolve the situation and avoid a scandal.

    How to quickly deal with anger

    To master self-control, you need to study special phrases selected by psychologists. They should be carefully repeated several times to yourself at the first appearance of anger:

    • if you don’t break down, you can emerge victorious from any situation;
    • everyone achieves their own goal, so there is no right or wrong;
    • I am not interested in the opinions of others, only I know the whole truth about myself;
    • there is no need to discuss, scold or show your disdain for anyone;
    • use only neutral expressions in your vocabulary, avoiding sarcasm and aggression in them;
    • always speak calmly, using a minimum of emotions;
    • my aggression is a signal that it’s time to calm down;
    • Even with anger, it is impossible to achieve the goal, so you should be calm and take care of your health.

    Psychologists advise not to keep accumulated negativity in yourself in order to reduce the risk of developing serious complications relating to both mental and physical health. Scientists have found that any negativity will sooner or later come out, which can be dangerous for others. Therefore, if a person is not able to independently control feelings of anger and aggression, it is worth contacting a psychologist.

Aggression is a stable personality characteristic, in the presence of which a person is inclined to cause harm to objects around him. Aggression also manifests itself through the expression of negative emotions: anger, rage, anger, directed at external objects and objects. Not everyone understands why a person cannot restrain his rage, or why child abuse and family violence occur. The culprit is aggression, which is manifested by a stable characterological personality trait called aggressiveness.

Aggression manifests itself in different ways, it all depends on the degree of irritation of a person, his character traits and the situation. There are several manifestations of this behavior, which we will consider in detail.

All types are based on several motives of human behavior: aggression arises as a result of the desire to achieve one’s goal (and someone or something interferes with this), the need to psychologically unload, the need to assert oneself.

Reasons for this behavior

Aggression in a person does not develop immediately. There are theories that say that this character trait is inherent in all living beings. In some ways this is true. When a person has to defend himself from danger, he begins to behave aggressively.

But what is important here is the difference between a personality trait and aggression, as a defensive, unintentional action. But many scientists agree that from birth a person does not have aggression; he learns a model of such behavior over the course of his life, depending on the social situation around him.

There are several reasons for aggression:

Aggression in psychology is understood as a socio-psychological phenomenon and does not relate to mental pathologies. According to the results of the study, this behavior occurs subjectively in healthy people, in the presence of psychological problems. For example, someone wants to take revenge, someone grew up in this and does not know other models of behavior, others are participants in some extremist movements, some are instilled with the cult of aggression as strength and courage.

Not always sick mental illness show aggression. There is evidence that only about 10% of people who cause mental or physical harm to others have mental illness. In other cases, such actions are dictated by psychosis, an exaggerated reaction to current events. In most cases, aggressive behavior is a desire to dominate.

Risk factors for aggression

Not every person will show aggression at the slightest traumatic situation. There are some features of the external situation and its internal perception that lead to damaging and destructive behavior.

Rather, a destructive model of behavior is formed in people prone to impulsiveness, who perceive everything very emotionally, as a result of which they develop a feeling of discomfort and dissatisfaction. When absent-minded, there is a possibility of emotional aggressiveness. If a person is thoughtful, he can make plans on how to show instrumental aggression.

Psychologists have proven that when a person’s basic values are threatened, he becomes aggressive. Thus, it can be argued that any acutely unmet need in any person can lead to this destructive pattern of behavior.

Aggression often occurs when moral defense against stress is weak. At elevated level Anxiety also increases the likelihood of aggression. An excess of negative emotions in early childhood leads to such patterns. Trying to free myself from authoritarianism significant people(parents, leaders of small groups in which the individual belongs), the child has only one choice - to behave aggressively. Success after such behavior consolidates in his mind how positive point, the skill of self-affirmation through aggression is formed.

The reasons for the desire to cause moral or physical harm to another, or to oneself, may be irritation of the nerve centers located in the area of the diencephalon.

How to see the manifestation of aggressive behavior?

Some scientists divide aggression into benign and malignant. Benign is a manifestation of courage, perseverance, and ambition. Overall, to achieve good results In work and career, manifestations of such aggression are even encouraged. But unconstructive, malignant aggressiveness represents a conscious intent to cause harm. This can be seen through the manifestation of such traits as rudeness, cruelty, and violence. Passions, negative emotions and feelings rage within a person.

The manifestations of aggression in men and women are slightly different. Men are characterized by a bright emotional outburst with a physical impact on an object, not necessarily the same one that caused the reaction. This is hitting the table, hitting the wall, waving your arms, stomping. In women, aggression manifests itself through discontent and periodic complaints about life. In this state, women are characterized by constant “nagling” of their husband, gossip, and any unfounded conclusions that carry negative consequences.

Often a person does not realize that he is showing aggression. In this case we're talking about about indirect aggression, he tends to be picky towards an individual or family. After nagging and realizing that some needs are not met, he moves on to manifestations of verbal aggression: raising his voice, shouting, humiliation and insults, causing psychological harm to the interlocutor.

Ignoring is also considered a manifestation of aggression. Boycott has long been considered one of the effective tortures of a person, since he could not enter into dialogue and felt lonely, flawed and unwanted. Ignoring causes self-flagellation, guilt, that is, auto-aggression. A person punishes himself in this way.

Manifestation of childhood aggressiveness

The manifestation of aggressiveness is much more noticeable in children. They do not know how to hide their emotions. Of course, it is good that negative emotions do not accumulate, but in such a state it is difficult for little aggressors to control themselves. Aggression in such children manifests itself through biting, pushing, hitting, threats, and negative actions. We can say that in children there are two main types of manifestation of the desire to cause harm to someone: physical and verbal aggression.

In adolescents, aggressive behavior is expressed somewhat differently and the mechanisms of its occurrence change slightly. Adolescents are more prone to verbal aggression; when aggressive, physical actions are more cruel, cause more damage, and border on criminality.

The psychological reasons for the manifestation of this condition are the transition from childhood to adulthood, dissatisfaction with the need for acceptance and love, and the unknown of independent life. Physiological changes also occur, which at the hormonal level can cause aggression.

Treatment, correction of aggressive behavior

As is known, non-physiological reasons for the appearance of aggression lie in environment and family situation, upbringing. In the case of preclinical aggression, that is, arising for psychological reasons, methods are used psychological correction behavior of children, parents and adults.

With damage to brain structures, hypertrophied psychological aggression, difficult cases emotional-volitional disorders, drug treatment is necessary.

Psychotherapy to overcome aggression

Aggression is formed in a child in at a young age, and such behavior, if uncorrected, accompanies a person into adulthood. It is important for parents to know in what cases their child will repress negative emotions, which will become the beginning of aggressive behavior:

Depending on the listed factors, psychotherapeutic methods for correcting aggression are used. A cognitive-behavioral, rational approach to problem solving is often used. The doctor helps a person, a child, learn constructive dialogue with interlocutors, socially adapted behavior, and discharging negative emotions in socially acceptable ways.

Aggression in its brightest manifestations is dangerous for society; the task of a psychotherapist is to teach a person to cope with emotions and work through internal problems - the reasons for such behavior. Psychoanalysis or its variations are also used for this. Methods for analyzing psychological trauma in childhood, removing blocks from the subconscious and working out mechanisms psychological protection, helps a person solve a problem that has been nurturing for years. Aggression does not disappear immediately after such an analysis. There should be someone nearby who will pay attention to unacceptable emotional reactions. He and the patient’s entourage must show their attention and love for the patient.

Drug treatment

Aggression provoked by physiological reasons can be treated with medications. Pharmacotherapy depends on the underlying clinical disease; especially long-term medications should only be prescribed by a doctor.

Benzodiazepines and antipsychotics are effective in treating manifestations of this behavior; second-generation antipsychotic drugs are also used. Some drugs are used sublingually, while others work more effectively through intramuscular or intravenous injections.

Irritability and aggression are those affects that always cause harm to people around them, mainly to loved ones. This can be both physical and moral impact. Those around him suffer, and the person himself, who cannot restrain himself, suffers.

It is believed that aggressive behavior is more characteristic of men. This is not entirely true; aggression comes in different forms. Men are more prone to direct aggression, expressed in physical actions. This does not necessarily mean beating someone, it can be threats, shouting, sudden movements, or destruction of objects. But there is also indirect, hidden, verbal aggression, which is more characteristic of women (gossip, slander, slander, veiled humiliation).

The topic of aggression, violence, and incontinence in men has been very relevant lately. Recently a term has appeared and is widely discussed on the Internet: Male Irritability Syndrome (MIS).

There is no exact definition of this syndrome, just as it is not included in the ICD classification of diseases. Probably, it was originally invented as an analogy with menopause in women: men also begin at a certain age (after 40 years). And indeed, during this period, changes in mood and behavior occur.

But if we now type “male irritability syndrome” into the search, we can see that absolutely any episodes of “bad” male behavior at any age are dumped there, and all this is explained by testosterone.

On the one hand, it's easier. On the other hand, it’s a shame for men. They are presented as absolutely primitive creatures. Although our behavior originates from animal instincts, so many things are layered on them: upbringing, culture, education, awareness of our role in society, the ability to control ourselves. In addition, our nervous system- a very complex thing, and is regulated not only by testosterone.

In the end, there are various diseases, both somatic and mental, that need to be treated, and not hidden behind a non-existent syndrome.

The most likely causes of male irritability

It is impossible to analyze absolutely all the causes of irritability and aggression in men in one article. We will indicate the most probable reasons and the most general recommendations.

Natural type of temperament

Everyone knows four types of temperament: phlegmatic, sanguine, melancholic and choleric. The most excitable type is, of course, choleric. He is quick-tempered and impulsive, reacts to the situation very quickly, without thinking, sometimes quite violently.

At the same time, melancholic people can be irritated by fuss and the need to make quick decisions.

What to do?

Natural temperament cannot be changed; the only way out is self-education. Automotive training, yoga classes will help with this, various methods relaxation. A very effective tip: if you want to “explode,” take a deep breath and count to 10.

Physiological hormonal disorders

The level of male sex hormone really affects mental stability. Testosterone is the hormone that makes a man a man: it ensures the formation of genital organs, secondary sexual characteristics, stimulates muscle growth, sexual arousal, and sperm production.

Testosterone levels also affect mental processes in the brain. When testosterone levels decrease, a man becomes irritable, quickly gets tired, and outbursts of anger are possible. The level of testosterone production is influenced by various factors; its wide fluctuations throughout the day are known.

Its natural decline is observed in (age after 40-45 years). In addition to changes in behavior, other signs will be noticeable: weight gain, decreased sex drive, decreased muscle strength.

What to do?

Testosterone treatment is prescribed only in severe cases. And so you can establish its production using non-drug methods. The main thing is to switch to absolutely healthy image living with sufficient physical activity, excluding bad habits. Biochemical changes in the brain

This is primarily a decrease in serotonin levels. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter. It is responsible for many processes in the body, including mood. It is known that when bad mood the level of serotonin is reduced, and if it is good, it is increased.

The mechanism of regulation of this hormone in the body is not fully understood. But two natural factors are reliably known to increase serotonin levels in the brain: sunlight and carbohydrate foods. A man is angry when he is hungry - this is a lack of serotonin. Addictions (nicotine, alcohol, drugs) are also mainly serotonin.

In addition, it is necessary to strive for positive emotions. In the serotonin-mood relationship, it is not clear enough what is the cause and what is the effect.

A long-term and persistent decrease in serotonin levels in the brain can lead to depression. And this is already a reason to contact a psychiatrist.

What to do?

No one measures serotonin levels routinely. Intuitively, you need to strive for those activities that will improve your mood: sports, a good movie (comedy), your favorite music, sex, communication with people you like. More walks in the sun, more light in general. Eat on time to avoid severe hunger. The diet should be rich in carbohydrates, but you need to remember that fast carbohydrates are large quantities can cause addiction to sweets. Alcohol is allowed in very moderate quantities.

Increased stress levels

We all know what stress is. For many, it is synonymous with change and anxiety. All that makes us worry is stress. At the same time, the level of stress hormones in the body increases - cortisol, catecholamines and others. These are the hormones that historically caused our bodies to run and escape from danger.

Nowadays, stress is not hunger, cold or wild animals; there is no need to run anywhere. Stress is overwork, public transport, traffic jams, inadequate management. Stress can also be attributed to the discrepancy between our capabilities and our desires. For men, this often means the loss of their role as a “leader”, provider, failure in their personal and intimate life.

What to do?

You won't be able to avoid stress at all. You need to learn to relieve constant internal irritation. This is relaxation, good sleep, walks, sports, favorite music, light film, sex, hobbies. During vacation, it is better to go away and change the environment.

Have you ever dreamed of starting a relationship with a man who would raise his hand against you, insult you, show anger, etc.? Women usually answer this question in the negative. However, why some of them do not break off relations with their partners when they turn out to be aggressors and tyrants still causes misunderstanding on the part of adequate people. Women do not want to live in unhappiness and troubles, but they continue to maintain relationships that bring them this. What is the psychology of men here?

The women's site says that a man would never allow himself to be insulted and humiliated. Notice how men break off relationships with women if they different ways humiliate and infringe. Why do women endure?

Psychologists refer mainly to the style of raising girls and the mentality of the Russian people, where the female sex must endure bullying and humiliation. They should thus receive the benefit. Although life shows that women living with tyrants and aggressive men often die at their hands or forever remain the most unfortunate and helpless.

If you initially dreamed of being loved and respected, then you should have the courage to break up with a man if you notice signs of aggressive or dominant behavior in him. Don't expect a man to change. He is already an adult and formed person who will not change only at your request.

How to recognize a tyrant or aggressor?

It is impossible to recognize aggressive or despotic traits in a person if you don’t know him well. Unfortunately, a woman will not be able to immediately recognize a tyrant or aggressor. Usually, such men at the beginning of acquaintance are always kind, friendly and the most loving. Sometimes they shower women with gifts, flowers, sing songs, read poems, and even demonstrate jealousy in order to stroke women’s pride.

Almost all women like such gestures. A man does all this just to attract attention and make his partner fall in love with him. As soon as the relationship has begun or even the marriage has been registered, then the man relaxes. He may continue to give the woman gifts or flowers, but often this happens after he has offended, insulted, or even hit her.

Now pleasant moments are made in order to make peace with the woman. The rest of the time, the man minds his own business and pours out his aggressive emotions on the woman.

At first, identifying an aggressor or tyrant is quite difficult, since he understands what this threatens him with. Only over time, when the woman had already fallen in love and created serious relationship, marriage, a man allows his qualities to manifest themselves in full force. What are they?

  1. Focusing on physical strength as a way to solve any problems. If a man tells you stories about how he beat someone or was beaten for one reason or another, you should pay attention to this. If he was a victim of domestic violence, this is also an indicator of what kind of gentleman he is. If a man often tells stories about how he insulted or hit someone in order to solve a problem that has arisen in this way, then you should understand that he will solve love/family difficulties in the same way.
  2. It's all others' fault. An aggressor and a tyrant always blame other people for their troubles. That's why they show their negative emotions on others. Others are to blame, which means they need to be punished.
  3. Irresponsibility. The category of men in question never takes responsibility. When bad things happen, other people are always the culprit. It was they who provoked such behavior on the part of the man. It should be understood that in a family, a man will blame his wife for everything. He will be an easy-going husband. However, at critical moments he can lash out at his wife, insulting or beating her.
  4. The desire to break or beat. How does a man behave when he is emotionally stressed? If he resorts to insults, swearing, and humiliation of other people, then it is possible that the same behavior will manifest itself towards a woman. If a man tries to break, beat, or break something, then soon this can spread to the woman.
  5. Jealousy. Of course, this criterion is not indicative. Not all jealous men are tyrants and aggressors. However, all tyrants and aggressors experience jealousy when their women look at other men or smile at someone.
  6. The desire to take possession of a woman as quickly as possible. A tyrant or aggressor does not like to delay asking a woman to start a serious relationship with him or register a marriage. He understands that until she is in love with him, no one will tolerate his behavior. But as soon as the woman is ringed, he begins to terrorize her, gradually increasing his pressure on her. A woman will not want to break up with him quickly; she will think about ending the relationship/marriage for a long time. To prevent this from happening, a man is always ready to ask for forgiveness and give his wife something... and then humiliate and beat her again.
  7. Attitude towards children and animals. Tyrants and aggressors often pour out their negative emotions on the weak - these are children and animals. By the way, this category of men always chooses weak women, whom they can then subjugate to their will. Only with such women will aggressors and tyrants be able to build long-term relationships where they will humiliate not only them, but also children and animals.

The aggressor is an immature person

Aggression is a manifestation of an immature personality. If you receive aggression, anger, or hostility from another person, know that you are communicating with an immature person. It is better not to communicate with an immature child than to experience aggression for any reason, because aggressive people get angry for absolutely any reason that does not suit them.

Where does aggression (anger) come from? This is a feeling that arises due to the discrepancy between the actual state of affairs and the desired one. For example, a person wants to buy a red sweater, but he only comes across blue and black sweaters. He is angry at the fact that what he wants does not coincide with what is real. Just imagine how many such situations can happen during the day when a person wants one thing, but his expectations are not met and he gets something else.

The inability to understand that events may not develop according to the scenario that a person has come up with for himself is a manifestation of personal immaturity. This is what leads to aggression, anger and hostility. A person wants everything to happen the way he wants. But here’s the problem: sometimes events don’t develop the way he would like. This leads to anger if a person does not accept the fact that wishes sometimes do not come true.

If children are not yet accustomed to the fact that everything in this world does not obey their desires, then adults already need to understand this. But there are people who, even at 30 and 40 years old, want all their whims to come true, otherwise they will get angry and behave aggressively, as children do. And often this aggression spills out on loved ones.

You should not wait until you find yourself in a trap set by a tyrant/aggressor. It is better to identify the characteristic manifestations of a person at the beginning of acquaintance. For example, create a situation where a man’s desire is not fulfilled (he wants sex, but you don’t give it; he wants to kiss you, but you don’t give it). In other words, destroy the plan that the man has built for you. How will he react to this?

All people show their resentment and anger differently. How a man reacts to your resistance will show you how he will act in the future when you again disagree with him about something.

What motivates a man’s aggression?

Many stories have been told about violent acts by men. A man beats his wife or children. He sexually assaults strange women. He arranges physical showdowns during any quarrel. Where does so much aggression come from in the stronger sex?

Scientists conducted a study which found that the less masculine a man considers himself, the more aggressive he becomes. Uncertainty about one’s own masculinity leads to the desire to prove its presence through physically aggressive actions.

It is believed that a man is a strong being. His muscle mass exceeds that of women. He stronger than women according to their physical parameters. Accordingly, men believe that they must prove their belonging to the stronger sex through force. That is why they are fond of various strength training activities and resort to strength whenever possible. A man shows his masculinity through force - this is what the representatives of the stronger sex believe, constantly resorting to forceful actions.

Does a man's physical strength define him? Yes, it does. But the less confident a man is, the more disgusting manifestations of his strength he resorts to. He beats those who are weaker than him - how courageous is that? Someone who cannot stand up for himself is of interest to a person who does not consider himself courageous. This can be seen in comparison with other men who are confident in their masculinity and never attack weaker and defenseless people.

What to do with the aggressor?

Does your loved one criticize you? It is not uncommon to find situations within a family where people treat each other as if they were their worst enemies. Children suffer humiliation from their parents. Spouses insult each other. This creates the atmosphere in relationships that causes many families to break up and children to run away from their own parents. What to do if you are in a relationship with an abuser?

In order not to react to the words of your family and loved ones, you should separate from them. Separation occurs at all levels where you are connected to them. This can be emotional dependence, especially if we are talking about a married couple. It could be a monetary dependency. Sometimes children are very dependent on their parents financially.

You should understand that it is this addiction that causes you to suffer and be upset because of the behavior loved one. And your aggressor takes advantage of the fact that you depend on him for something, and therefore does not stop his attacks.

In a relationship where one of the partners resorts to insults and humiliation, it is impossible to change the situation until the second partner is ready to break the union. As long as you are afraid, try to prove something, defend your opinion, but feel your own powerlessness, the situation will not change. Only one thing can help here: your separation from the aggressor. If you depend on your spouse to provide you with money, you should start earning money yourself. In what you depend on, you need to find another source of obtaining this benefit. By doing this, you will show that if the aggressor continues to treat you poorly, you will break up with him because you are independent of him.

As long as you depend on your aggressor, he can do whatever he wants to you. Let's take an example from the work world, where subordinates may suffer bullying from their boss. Subordinates depend on the boss, who pays them money. But if subordinates find another job where they earn the same and even more money, then the boss, who has lost qualified workers, will reconsider his behavior.

Bottom line

While you are dependent, the aggressor takes advantage of your helplessness and does whatever he wants. But when you show that you can live without him, then he is able to reconsider his behavior towards you. And other methods, such as persuasion, conversations, contracts, will not help in the end. This will only give a temporary effect, which will quickly turn into further humiliation and insults directed at you.
