After installation, configure the virtual router:

  • In the Network Name (SSID) field, give the network a name.

It is also worth checking the operation of network adapters in Device Manager. To get there, open the “Start” menu and select the item of the same name, or use the “Win” + “R” key combination to open the “Run” window, paste mmc devmgmt.msc into the “Open:” field and click “OK”.

In Device Manager, click View, select Show hidden devices" and expand the item "Network adapters". If there is an arrow in the icons of “Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter”, “Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter” and other adapters whose names contain “WAN”, “WLAN”, “Wireless” and “Wi-Fi”, it means these adapters are disabled. Also, the antivirus and its built-in firewall can block the Internet connection. In this case, in the antivirus software settings, disable the firewall and the antivirus itself for the duration of Wi-Fi distribution.

Another Wi-Fi access point may not start due to the WLAN auto-configuration service being disabled. To check if it's working, press the Win + R key combination, type services.msc and click OK.

Find “WLAN AutoConfig Service” in the list, right-click on it and select “Properties”.

In Startup Type, select Automatic, click Apply and OK. After completing the steps, restart your PC.

However, connecting smartphones to the Internet was possible with one caveat - by disabling the firewall. If turning it off for one or two minutes for experimental purposes is still acceptable, then exchanging Wi-Fi for a permanently disabled firewall is unacceptable. For a potential malicious program, it only takes one second of exchange of information with its site; Every time I turn off the firewall (public networks), I immediately see splashes of both yellow (receiving data) and red (sending data) colors in the Task Manager. When you disable a rule in the list of outgoing connections, the corresponding program loses access to the Internet, checked now! Disabling rules in the list of incoming connections does not affect the access of the corresponding programs to the Internet.

Regarding the reaction of the smartphone. It has been noticed that if you disable the firewall on your laptop, then start listening to an Internet radio station on your smartphone (with a player, via an m3u file, or in a browser by going to the radio station’s website), then turn on the firewall, then listening will continue until it is stopped ( not pause) or the page will not be refreshed.
