Industrial style lamps. Loft style lamps. Ceiling, pendant industrial lamps and chandeliers

Industrial style (industrial styles) in interior design appeared quite recently, in the mid-90s of the last century. It is believed that he appeared in New York, where, due to the high cost office premises began to equip warehouses and industrial premises under business centers, and later for hotels, restaurants and bars. The style appealed to many, so much so that it became popular for planning residential buildings and apartments. Designers distinguish between natural and artificial industrial style. The first, as a rule, is found in premises previously used as industrial, so some interior details are preserved in their original form, and other elements are adjusted to this basis. In the second case, all the characteristic attributes of the style are created deliberately.

But regardless of whether the interior in the industrial style is created naturally or artificially, the issue of lighting the premises is a matter of paramount importance.

"Industrial Styles" in the kitchen

To begin with, it should be noted that the industrial style is the most natural for electric lighting. Lighting fixtures used in industrial-style room design are primarily characterized by sustainability, functionality and durability. In addition to lighting, lamps in the “industrial” style should create a certain atmosphere inherent only in production workshops or warehouses. Moreover, these strokes should be quite thin and precise. For this purpose, they can be used as authentic industrial lighting, and stylized as modern industrial analogues.

What industrial style lamps look like

In essence, the requirements are unchanged and exactly the same as for all other lamps. However, the style requires high durability, flexibility and mobility from lamps. Most often, lamps are made of metal and glass; wood is often used as a material. One of distinctive features“Industrial” style powerful lampshades, which by definition must be durable. For this purpose, the lampshades are made thick-walled with inclusions of varnished metal or metal parts, covered with patina. As for the tripod, you can use almost any design or suitable mechanism, and the only limitation here is the designer’s imagination.

In an industrial style, it is very important to “feel” metal

Types of industrial lamps

Pendant lamps are often used for lighting in factories. They are considered classic in rooms with an industrial design style. Since these devices coped with their main task of lighting excellently, most often they were not replaced. Such lamps are especially effective when decorating bars and restaurants. In residential areas this is most likely the kitchen. In apartments it is customary to use mainly wall or floor lamps. Most often, these lamps have several sections, which are also capable of changing their position and illuminating different areas, often performing the function of not only the main lighting, but also the backlight.

Ceiling, pendant industrial lamps and chandeliers

An original lamp, created from scrap materials, can become a great option lighting not only for residential premises, but also for office, and even for exhibitions. Even a beginner can get comfortable with the design itself, but in order for the lamp to be safe, you will need to learn and take into account several important points during assembly.

Materials

To make an industrial-style lamp with your own hands, you will need to prepare:

  • soft copper pipes 1.5 m;
  • 4 tees, 0.5 inches;
  • 3 tubes 0.5 x 3 inches;
  • 1 tube 0.5 x 4 inches;
  • 1 tube 0.5 x 18 inches;
  • 1 tube 0.5 x 24 inches;
  • half-flange (for attaching the lamp to the ceiling);
  • plugs;
  • brass adapters;
  • wires;
  • screws;
  • current source;
  • LED bulbs;
  • keys;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • electrical tape;
  • wire crimpers;
  • paint;
  • powder;
  • brush;
  • a rag.

Step 1. The first thing you will need to do is work with the copper tubes. To do this, use a hacksaw to cut pieces 30 cm long from a common skein. You will need three of these in total. They will need to be bent in an arc.

The last manipulation is extremely difficult, since the tubes are soft and can become deformed when bent. Apart from purely aesthetically beautiful view, you may get another problem: it will be impossible to thread the wire for the lamp into the tube. To bend the tube and still leave it round, you will have to resort to one simple trick. The inside of the tube must be filled with solid material. This could be tightly packed sand, another tube of smaller diameter, or, as in in this case, ice

Step 2. Attach the ends of the bent copper tubes compression fittings. To do this, screw the nut onto the fitting and press it to the maximum possible distance along the length of the tube. As soon as the fitting rests, turn it halfway using wrench.

Step 3. Pass the wires with LED lamp sockets through copper tubes. Wrap the cartridge itself with electrical tape.

Step 4. You will need to clean all the materials for the steel pipe light fixture. Traditionally, they are sold with a small layer of oil coating, which protects them from moisture and corrosion during storage. To do this, take a brush, powder and put on clothes that you don’t mind ruining. After completely removing all oil coating, allow the pipes to dry. You can paint them with black spray paint.

Step 5. All components of the lamp are ready. Now you can collect them. For convenience, the assembly sequence is shown in the photo. When assembling the structure, be sure to ensure that the wires are securely fastened. All wires will need to be routed through the mounting flange.

Step 6. At this point, attach the power source to the lamp without hanging it from the ceiling or wall yet. Pay attention to whether the wires become hot when connecting the power source. This is very important point. If they begin to emit heat in any area, such a device becomes dangerous from a fire safety point of view.

From scrap materials you can create a very original lamp, which will not only be an excellent option for lighting an apartment, but will also serve as interior decor. Even a beginner can get used to the design itself if desired. But when assembling such a lamp in an industrial style, you must take into account several important nuances to ensure the product is safe.

We will need:
- copper soft pipes 1.5 meters;
- four tees (0.5 inches);
- three tubes (0.5x3 inches);
- one tube each with the following values: 0.5x4, 0.5x24 and 0.5x18 inches;
- plugs, half-flange (to secure the lamp to the ceiling);
- screws, wires, adapters made of brass;
- LED bulbs and power source;
- metal hacksaw, keys, screwdriver;
- drills, electrical tape, paint, powder, brush, rag, wire crimping pliers.

The tubes are soft and may lose their shape when bent. Not only is it not pretty, but you won’t be able to thread wires into such a tube. So tread carefully. The author resorted to a simple technique: he filled the tube from the inside with a solid material (for example, tightly compacted sand would work very well for this purpose, or ice). A smaller diameter tube will also work. In general, whatever you have on hand at that moment.

Step 2

Attach compression fittings to the ends of the bent tubes. Screw the nut onto the fitting, press along the length of the tube to the maximum possible distance. When the fitting stops, immediately turn it half a turn using a wrench. After that, move on to the next step.

Step 3

Pass the wires with sockets for the LED lamp through the copper tubes. Wrap the cartridge itself with electrical tape.

Step 4
Clean all lamp materials. After all steel pipes are sold with a layer of oil coating - it protects them from corrosion during storage. Powder and a brush will help clean the pipes. Just do it in work clothes that you don't mind. Oil coating remove completely, then the pipes should dry completely. By the way, you can paint them with paint of any color (the author chose black).

Step 5

Now it's time to assemble the components of the lamp. You can see the assembly sequence in the photo. When assembling this structure, make sure the wires are securely fastened. Be sure to route the wires through the mounting flange.

Step 6

Connect the power source to the lamp. Check that the wires do not heat up when connecting the power source - this is very important! If somewhere they begin to emit heat, then the device is dangerous to use.

Chandeliers that appeared as extremely necessary element during the Industrial Revolution in factories around the world, soon acquired the status of original design elements, bringing textural and visual contrast to modern interiors. Unlike most traditional industrial elements, they fit easily into most modern styles and those. We offer a review of 40 interiors that demonstrate the beauty and variety of industrial-style chandeliers.

Each era gave rise to certain styles, which have changed and been updated over time creative designers seeking to create original and interesting interiors. One of these styles, which now occupies one of the leading positions in popularity, can be called industrial. It is characterized by simplicity, practicality and efficiency. And industrial-style lamps clearly demonstrate this.

1. Incandescent lamps

The simplest model that fits freely into the minimalism dictated by the industrial style is an open incandescent lamp. Simply hanging from the ceiling, these lights have quickly become popular in restaurants, cafes and canteens, combining a luxurious ambience with modern simplicity.

Such lamps look very good in the interiors of houses decorated in a minimalist and industrial style, since, on the one hand, they amaze with their simplicity, and on the other, they attract attention. You can combine a simple light bulb with a metal socket desired color, and you will get a stunning lamp that will fit into any theme and style. Such chandeliers look good in small spaces– bedrooms, bathrooms, dining rooms.

One of the disadvantages of such lamps is the fact that they bring back to life obsolete incandescent lamps, which are considered unecological and wasteful. A reasonable compromise would be to replace them with modern LED options, which create no worse visual effect, and consume 80% less energy.

2. Variety of styles

Practicality is main principle, separating the industrial style from others and defining its main elements. Instead of searching for new industrial-style light fixtures that you'll love, you can safely go to the attic, flea market or trash bin and find a one-of-a-kind piece that no one else will have. True, you will have to tinker with it a little, although you can turn old things into beautiful lamp much simpler than it might seem at first glance.

Literally anything will do - old radiators, pulleys, metal baskets, vintage factory or theater chandeliers. Everything can be turned into stylish lamps for the kitchen or living room. Done with my own hands models will turn into stunning compositional centers that attract everyone's attention.

The kitchen is probably the first place that comes to mind when industrial style lighting is mentioned. Stop at a certain model it will be incredibly difficult. Industrial-style chandeliers can look different - from small, minimalist models with a simple metal socket to giant lampshades that hide everything underneath.

The choice of a lamp for the kitchen depends not only on aesthetic tastes. It must combine beauty and functionality. The best solution will be a combination of a chandelier with a directional and natural light.

Industrial style lamps are ideal for modern kitchen as it offers a wonderful background for metal elements, where they can fully reveal their charm. A couple of large chandeliers above kitchen island will produce a huge visual effect, while the quality of lighting will only benefit. Even when turned off, they will attract attention.
