Homemade table bench. Do-it-yourself transformer bench: tips and drawings. Work methodology

The do-it-yourself transforming bench has different drawings. Before preparing a design diagram, it is recommended to determine its parameters. If necessary, you can create a transforming table from the bench.

A transformable bench significantly saves space on the site and can be either a table or a bench.

Preparatory work

To make a bench you will need: edged board, timber, hacksaw, tape measure, chisel, sandpaper, drill, bolts. It is first recommended to prepare 8 legs 70 cm long. Oblique cuts are made at the top and bottom of the elements.

Then the frame is made from edged boards. To do this, you will need to prepare 4 segments of 40 and 170 cm. The resulting parts are connected into a rectangle. To make the seat, reinforcing elements are made in the frame of the previous design. For this purpose they use wooden beam, which must be nailed in increments of 50 cm.

Then the legs are attached to the seat, making a diagonal indent of 10 cm from the corners. The transforming bench is equipped with a backrest, for the manufacture of which a beam with a cross-section of 70x170 cm is used. The resulting 3 structures are combined into one system. A folding bench is assembled with your own hands on the floor. To do this, use hinges or ordinary bolts.

Between the bench and the large shield, 2 bars of length 40 cm and 110 cm are attached. The bench is sheathed with timber or laminated chipboard. The resulting product is coated with stain and varnish, or waterproof paint.

Additional technique

To make a transforming bench, consisting of two benches of different widths and a table, you will need to prepare a drawing. The first bench is made from a board 20 mm thick. The dimensions of the bench are 118x25 cm.

Furniture legs are made from two planks measuring 37x11 cm and two planks measuring 34x11 cm. The resulting elements are connected to each other metal plates and self-tapping screws. The height of the legs should be 45 cm, and the width – 37 cm. The straps for the seat are screwed to the legs using self-tapping screws. The holes are pre-prepared. The resulting structure is strengthened from below with spacers.

The next step is to make the second bench. Its width is 109 and its length is 22 cm. The legs of the bench are made of bars with a cross-section of 40x40 mm. A board is attached to beams 22 cm long. To do this, use wooden dowels, wood glue and self-tapping screws. Similar steps are performed with the second board. The legs of the bench are used to form the letter “A”. Two boards are screwed to the resulting structure so that they are flush with the timber. The width of the second bench should be 109 cm. The seat is reinforced with spacers.

The next step is to check that the furniture is assembled correctly. To do this, its elements are connected to each other. They should be at the same height, forming a sofa of four boards.

Manufacturing of components

To make a tabletop, you will need 5 tesins measuring 126x57 cm. The elements are sanded and connected to each other by two planks 8 cm wide. Tabletop boards are placed on the edge of the planks. In this case, it is necessary to maintain a step of 4 cm from the edge. The elements are secured with self-tapping screws.

The tabletop is then screwed to the bench. To do this, use 2 boards measuring 4x10 cm. On the 1st side of the stop, a cut is made at an angle of 115 degrees. Having made an indentation of 14 cm from the edge of the tabletop, attach the stops.

Holes with a diameter of 7 mm are made in the support of the back and legs. The structure is assembled with furniture bolts. Washers are installed between the stops. The next step is to check the correct installation of the backrest-tabletop. To do this, you will need to open it and secure it with a stick. If all the elements open and close, then the benches are connected to each other.

To make armrests, use 2 planks measuring 8x22 cm and 4 planks measuring 6x27 cm. To fix the elements, it is recommended to use wooden dowels and wood glue. The armrests are attached to the bench. To make a lever, use a piece of wood measuring 88x6 cm. The workpiece is connected to the bench using nuts and furniture screws. The lever is connected to the armrest using self-tapping screws. If the transforming bench is made correctly, you will get a table with two benches that rest on the armrests.

Conclusion on the topic

Before making furniture, it is recommended to prepare a drawing. Experts advise using a graphics program or graph paper. Main function manufactured furniture consists of transforming a bench with a back into 2 benches and a table. In the first case, the furniture is assembled, and in the second - unfolded.

The next stage is the purchase of material - planed boards measuring 35x120x6000 mm. The material is sawn to width taking into account the size of the benches. The tabletop and seats are made of boards 120 mm wide. The rest of the material is dissolved into 50 mm slats. The resulting strips can be used to connect the table and benches.

If the received product will be installed on open area, it is treated with a special anti-corrosion agent. Otherwise, the transforming bench is covered with varnish or paint.

Every owner wants to have everything in their dacha that will be convenient and beautiful. A dacha is the place where you want to take a break from the everyday hustle and bustle, from annoying work colleagues, from noisy neighbors. A dacha is such a small island in the abyss of routine and ordinary life responsibilities.

If you move away from all sorts of lyrical digressions and go directly to the topic of this article, then you need to say a few words about the furniture that is in the country house. Any country furniture should be multifunctional and useful. This can be confirmed by every happy owner of a dacha who was involved in its arrangement.

An interesting option is a special transforming bench, which will be a very attractive piece of furniture. In addition, this will be quite a functional option, which will definitely come in handy at the dacha.

Any owner country house can purchase such an interesting bench in a store, but it should be borne in mind that it is quite possible to make it with your own hands, since all the necessary drawings of a transformable bench are available on the Internet.

Below are instructions and tips that will help any garden owner who wants to design a homemade transforming bench that can also serve as a table.

Advantages of a transforming bench

Before you get started, you should know the benefits of this element country furniture. Firstly, this design doesn't take up much space, which makes it very compact and practical. Secondly, it should be mentioned that the transforming bench can be easily moved from place to place, which can also definitely be considered a plus. Thirdly, such a bench, through simple manipulations, can easily be converted into a table with two benches, if necessary. This plus of such country benches allows you to hold feasts on fresh air, which is just suitable for a summer house.

Tools that will be needed during the work

First, you need to decide on the tools that the craftsman will definitely need when constructing such a transformable bench with his own hands.

Before the work process it is necessary Prepare the following tools:

Consumables in in this case are: wood, sandpaper and screws.

Be sure to check your actions with the drawing as you progress.

Work technology

The very first thing you should decide on is the “composition” of the bench. It sounds rough, but, in principle, it quite clearly reflects the design itself. The fact is that the transformer bench consists of two benches and a tabletop back. Benches should differ from each other in width. The first bench can be easily made with your own hands, and you should focus on the following dimensions: 118 * 25 centimeters. Using Supplies, details should be prepared. They should be in the form of boards with a thickness of 20 mm. Their dimensions are 118 * 12 cm. The legs can be made from parts that are cut out with the following dimensions:

  • 2 pieces – 37 * 11 cm;
  • 2 pieces – 34 * 11 cm.

All parts must be well polished. For this you can use sandpaper or a special circle for an angle grinder. The legs are connected by metal plates. The connection is made taking into account that the width of the base should be 37 cm and the height 45.

The seat can be made screwing two parts(118 * 12 cm) to the bases using self-tapping screws. Due to the small thickness of the boards, there is a certain risk that the boards may burst. To prevent this from happening, you should drill holes at the joints. It is recommended to do this before tightening the screws. After the first bench has been assembled, measurements should be taken. The internal width should be 114 cm, and the external 116.

After the above steps, you can proceed to assembling the second bench. Its width will be 109 * 22 cm. The seat of the bench consists of two blanks, the size of which is 109 * 11 cm. The legs can be made using a 40 * 40 cm beam. The blanks from which the legs will subsequently be made will have following sizes:

  • 4 bars – 32 cm;
  • 2 bars 22 cm.

You can make the legs of the second bench yourself. To do this, use a block (22 cm) and attach the board to one edge, on the edge. In this case, you will need to use glue, screws and a wooden dowel. There is another 22 cm block available, you should do the same with it. The rest of the available blanks should be assembled in the shape of the letter A. The 22 cm bars will be the upper part of the improvised letter A. The 32 cm bars will be the sides, and the inner crossbar can be cut out yourself in the form of spacers. Metal corners and screws will be used to hold the base. It should be remembered that at the bottom of the letter there should be certain distance – 30 cm.

You should screw the seat parts with your own hands to the bases obtained earlier. After assembly, you should check the dimensions of the second bench. The width of the bench along the legs should be 113 for the legs and 109 for the seat. To check the correct assembly of the transformer bench, you do not need to use any special devices. The check can be done visually. To do this, you just need to combine two benches. They should be placed next to each other and they will form a “sofa” of four boards that are on the same level, which means that everything was done correctly before.

Now you can move on to the next stage of work. This assembling the backrest and tabletop with your own hands. It is made from five blanks that will form common plane. Its dimensions will be as follows: 126 * 57 cm. You can join the boards yourself using two planks. In this case, self-tapping screws are very useful, which will allow you to fasten the boards together.

On one side of the previously assembled tabletop, stops must subsequently be attached, which are made from boards 20 mm thick. One side of the resulting workpieces must be cut at a certain angle of 115 degrees. This angle will indicate the tilt of the backrest of the transformer bench. All necessary stops should be attached using self-tapping screws.

Subsequently, metal connections and screws should be used to help hold everything together. When making the backrest, you should carefully follow the drawings, which will definitely help you better understand the entire working process of making a transformer bench.

Completing the build

After all the operations described above, the master must connect the two benches to each other. They will help with this wood glue and wooden dowel. If desired, you can attach special armrests that will add convenience.

If everything is done according to the instructions, the transformer bench can subsequently be folded out into two benches and a table. All this can be tracked in the drawing.

Every owner dreams of creating beautiful garden near your house. At the same time, you want everything about it to be perfect. At first glance, it seems that this requires a huge amount of effort and spending a whole lot of money. But in practice everything is somewhat different. For example, a transforming bench, the drawings of which you can even make with your own hands, will decorate any garden. Moreover, this convenient solution, if you plan to have frequent get-togethers with friends.

What materials can a bench be made from?

The peculiarity of this device is that it can be used as a bench or, if necessary, as a tabletop with two benches. In addition, you can buy a ready-made model in a store or make it yourself. Usually, in order to create a high-quality transforming bench, they use wooden materials. Moreover, it can be taken as natural wood, and plywood or PVC. Of course, the first option will be more expensive, but the manufactured device will last not 2-3 years, but 20-30 years. Before use, it is advisable to coat the bench with an antifungal solution and also paint it with varnish. This will be an excellent prevention of rot.

Buying tools for work

Before you start creating a bench, you need to make sure that all the tools are available. So, in order for the transforming bench to be of high quality and last for decades, it is recommended to purchase the following tools and materials:

  • Beam.
  • The material from which the device will be made. You need to take the already cut part.
  • Hacksaw or electric jigsaw.
  • Roulette.
  • Fine skin.
  • Bolts and nuts.
  • Drill.

Drawing up drawings

In order to properly make a transforming bench with your own hands, it is better to draw up the drawings yourself. After all, it is very important that the image of the final product is not lost. When drawing up a drawing, it is recommended to pay attention to 3 factors:

  • The dimensions of the structure must correspond to the area where the transforming bench will subsequently be installed.
  • It must be taken into account that the device must have a movable mechanism, which will not be so easy to create.
  • First you need to calculate the dimensions of the fixed parts, which will later be fastened together.

Work progress: main part

First of all, you should make parts that will later be used as legs for the structure. For this purpose, it is necessary to cut 8 identical segments, the length of which will be 70-75 cm. It is advisable to make cuts at an angle of 10 degrees on both sides. This is necessary to provide balance when installing on a slope.

Next you need to make frames for two benches. They are made from To do this, you need to cut 4 pieces 40 cm long and 4 parts measuring 1.70 m. Several reinforcing elements should be made in the frame. Actually, this is where timber is needed. It is nailed at a distance of half a meter from each other. This way the transforming bench will be protected from lateral deformation. The legs should be attached to the seat with 2-3 bolts so that they are held securely. A rectangle should be made from the timber, which exactly matches the length of the benches in size. WITH inside it is attached additional elements rigidity. This will be the back (or tabletop).

Now all that remains is to combine the resulting elements into one general design. This is not easy to do because you have to work with large parts. Therefore, it is recommended to do the work not independently, but together with an assistant. It is necessary to cut 2 beams half a meter long. They need to be placed between the bench and the shield. After securing them, 2 more bars should be cut. Now their size should be 110 cm. They are attached to another bench in the center to make it easier to join both elements. In this way, a transforming bench will be made with your own hands, the drawings of which can be seen in the article.

The final stage: exterior finishing

The interesting thing is that such a device can also be placed indoors. It follows that you can cover it in two ways: for the garden it is recommended waterproof paint, and for the home - stain or varnish. And if the second one can also be finished, the first one cannot be painted with varnish and stain.

Many people want something unusual to appear in their garden, for example a transforming bench. Making such a device with your own hands is not difficult. Moreover, there is a wide variety of its shapes and sizes. The main thing is to paint it with a suitable product at the end. If this is not done, the wood will begin to rot due to exposure to moisture. It is best to paint once every 1-2 years so that the bench is completely protected from bacteria. If desired, you can decorate the bench with wild stone, clay and other materials.

Such garden furniture - shining example good combination beauty and practicality. But isn’t this especially appreciated in a private home or country house, where there is often a lack of free space? We suggest making a transforming table and bench with your own hands.

Step-by-step instructions for making a transforming bench

When folded, the structure takes up very little space (photo 1). And with one movement of the hand, an ordinary bench turns into a table with two benches - great for eating on outdoors or for board games with kids. The photo shows how the bench transforms into a table and bench (photo 2-4).

Construction material : timber with a section of 90x45 mm, 90x32 mm, 45x32 mm. Hardwood is preferred: beech, ash, oak, birch (in extreme cases, pine without pronounced knots).

Tools for making a bench - transformer:
■ tabletop miter saw - its graduated dial will allow you to get precise cuts of parts (or you will have to mark with a protractor and cut with a hacksaw small tooth);
■ electric drill and drills: spiral d 5.1 mm, d 3.0 mm (holes for screws), 8.0 mm (holes for dowels), feather d22 mm (holes in parts moving relative to each other);
■ countersink (recesses for screw heads);
■ Phillips screwdriver;
■ milling machine or hand plane(chamfering the bars that form the planes of benches and tables);
■ a grinder or a block with sandpaper (finishing the surfaces of parts),
■ rasp (rounding corners).

Supporting materials: PVA wood glue, paint (impregnation), sanding paper No. 60, 80; wood screws; wooden dowels - 12 pcs. (connecting parts D-D1, Zh-Zh1); M8x60 mm bolts with self-locking nut and washers - 4 pcs. (compound parts A-K, D-E).

Transformable bench video (another option with different sizes)

I used different types of boards for the table: birch, pine, aspen, but it is best to take hard types of wood, such as birch, because the table and two benches are designed for 6 people, that is, the structure must withstand high loads.

The advantage of this table is that it compactly folds into a bench with a backrest and back into a table with two benches; it takes up little space when folded.

So, let's look at what exactly is needed to make a transforming table

Materials:
1. board 30x80 mm of different species (it is better to take birch boards)
2. metal corners
3. wood screws
4. wood glue or liquid nails
5. varnish
6. stain
7. M12 bolts
8. nut
9. washer
10. nails

Tools:
1. hacksaw
2. screwdriver
3. drill
4. hammer
5. ruler
6. pencil
7. roulette
8. protractor
9. corner
10. brush

Step-by-step instructions for creating a transforming table with your own hands:

After a long search on the Internet for a suitable drawing, I got to work, first of all I drew templates for the legs directly on the floor, you can also use a sheet of plywood.

Next, he saws the boards according to size, the author used different breeds wood: aspen, pine, birch, but it is best to take hard wood. Please pay attention! There will be two benches, namely internal and external. First of all, the master makes an external bench; he showed us all the detailed dimensions directly in the photographs, which, mind you, is very convenient. The height of the legs is 440 mm, the width of the legs at the bottom is 400 mm - this is very good for the stability of the bench.

Attention important point!
The length of the internal crossbar is 150 mm, we remind you once again that the crossbar is located inside.

The length of the outer bench is 1380 mm; before direct assembly, all workpieces should be thoroughly sanded and be sure to chamfer so that the surface is smooth, even, as they say, “Without a hitch.”

The bench turns out to be simple, and the master makes the fastening using wood screws, wood glue and, for greater reliability, adds metal corners, since the structure must be extremely strong.

So, let's move on) Now you need to assemble the Inner Bench. Please note! The height of the legs on both benches should be strictly the same, but the crossbar that fastens the legs is moved outwards and its length is accordingly increased to 400 mm, the length of the top bar is 350 mm where, at a distance of 40 mm from the edge, a hole is drilled for an M12 bolt and drilled out to recess the bolt head into cavity of the board so that nothing protrudes. All required dimensions the author pointed directly to the photographs.

The length of the bench is 1440 mm, but in each individual case the dimensions may vary, because everyone makes it for themselves, but as a standard we use the dimensions presented by the master.

IN top bar holes are drilled.

After both benches are ready, you need to try them on and one should fit into the other with a small gap (see photo)

That is, two benches when folded should create one whole.

This is exactly what should happen in the end.

We've sorted out the benches a little, now let's move on to considering the author's further actions, namely the manufacture of brackets from timber. The angle of connection of the two bars should be about 100-1050 (see photo) where beam “A” is responsible for the width of the tabletop, and beam “B” is the height from the top of the bench to the tabletop.

A hole is drilled in timber “B” for an M12 bolt and drilled out to recess the head into the cavity of the wood.

After that, the resulting brackets should be connected to the inner bench; we place a washer at the connection point so that there is no mating.

The head of the bolt is recessed into the drilled hole.

The same is true on the opposite side.

In general, 2 brackets are fixed in this way, which are responsible for the height and width of the tabletop.

Then you should align both brackets evenly.

And now the fun part begins, you need to connect the tabletop with the outer bench, this is done using a straight plank, its dimensions are indicated in the photo.

These strips need to be made in 2 pieces, the author struggled for a long time to get the exact size during the fitting process, so in each individual case there may be errors. To begin with, the master drove nails along the edges of the planks and made a mark with them, that is, he drove a nail so that it stuck out a little on the other side and made a mark, and then drilled a hole for an M12 bolt

Everything must first be carefully adjusted, and then drilled calmly, as they say, “Measure twice, cut once.”

It is imperative to make a limiter on this bar so that your tabletop does not move apart; for example, the author’s one looks like this.

That is, when unfolded, it will fix the tabletop in a level position and will not allow further movement.

As you can see, everything is quite simple, a piece of board is cut at a certain angle and attached to the plank using 2 self-tapping screws.

For complete symmetry, everything is done the same on the second bar.

This is what actually results from the author’s work.

This transforming table is compactly placed in the corner of the gazebo when folded.

Actually, what happens is that the tabletop turns into a backrest, and two benches are connected into a single whole by inserting into each other.

And if you need to set the table and arrange a “Feast on the Mountain” - just pull the bench and the table unfolds.

Voila)) and everything is ready.

The undeniable advantage of a transforming table is, of course, its compactness.

The author advises using hardwood, for example birch, to make the table. This design designed for 6 people when unfolded, so everything should be extremely reliable. The joints are additionally reinforced with metal corners.

Of course, making such a wonderful table is quite difficult, but you are presented with all the necessary dimensions and description, which the author did not have and he collected information all over the Internet.
