A quick and cheap way to transform a refrigerator

If you don’t have time to choose paint, manipulate glue or vinyl film, update your refrigerator with colored tape. This method requires minimum costs and is suitable if decor is needed temporarily or urgently.

Among the types of colored tape, the most interesting are:

  • holographic;
  • neon;

The easiest way to decorate with tape- horizontal, vertical or diagonal stripes. If you wish, make a complex composition of multi-colored squares and strips of adhesive tape of different widths.

Having first drawn a color sketch on paper, it is not difficult to assemble a mosaic picture on the refrigerator door from squares of tape.

The convenience of the option with adhesive tape - in the absence of preparation. It is enough to remove dust and dirt from the refrigerator damp cloth and you can start decorating.

Instructions for covering with film

A popular method of restoring a refrigerator with your own hands is pasting with PVC film.(vinyl). It happens:

High-quality vinyl provides a durable, abrasion-resistant coating, which does not require special care. Pasting a refrigerator will only take a few hours, but will require precision and care.

Surface preparation

Before gluing with film, the surface is thoroughly cleaned. Wash it, removing even the smallest drops, dots, and hairs. Any unevenness will be noticeable under the vinyl.

Remove the doors from the refrigerator and disconnect the handles. Parts previously covered with PVC film should be freed from it. Will help you deal with this:

  • hot water;
  • construction hair dryer;
  • liquids based on white spirit.

If there are paint chips, scratches or dents, fill them with putty and sand them down. Degrease the surface with alcohol. Then mark the film (there is a grid on the back), leaving a couple of centimeters for allowances. Cut into required pieces.

There are two ways to glue the film: dry and wet.

Wet method

Suitable for those who are faced with gluing vinyl for the first time. Algorithm of actions:

  1. Pour water into a small container with a spray bottle and add a couple of drops of dishwashing gel.
  2. Place the film on a flat, clean surface, face down. Separate 2-3 cm from the top paper base and cut it with scissors across the entire width of the canvas.
  3. Apply the edge freed from the base to the top of the refrigerator part to be pasted. Using a dry cloth, press firmly and iron the strip until you are sure that it is evenly and firmly glued.
  4. Roll the free part of the film into a roll with the front side facing inward. Moisten the unpasted part of the surface with soapy water from a spray bottle.
  5. Separating small sections of the base, glue the film, smoothing it with a rubber roller or spatula (you can take a plastic one and wrap it with cling film).
  6. After applying the entire sheet of vinyl, remove any air bubbles. Try to move them with a spatula to the nearest free edge. If that doesn't work, you can carefully pierce them with a thin needle.
  7. If you notice a strong distortion or creases while gluing the film, it is better to peel it off and correct it before the surface is dry. If plain vinyl is skewed, the allowances left will help.
  8. When the film has dried, trim off the excess material and install the fittings.

Advice. Try to remove any creases found after the coating has dried by heating construction hairdryer and smoothing it out.

Dry method

This method requires experience and skill., but if mistakes are made, you can remove the material and re-glue it up to two times. The actions are similar to wet pasting:

Advice. Hot air will also help to evenly glue the sides of the part or recess. Heat the vinyl with a hairdryer and press it, stretching it slightly.

Stylish stickers for the refrigerator

It is not necessary to cover the entire refrigerator with film. Vinyl stickers will change its appearance. They can be ready-made or made to order. For creative personalities There is an option - cut out the stickers yourself from a sheet of vinyl.

Their themes and plots are varied, choose ones that suit the design and color scheme kitchen area:

The sizes are also different: from a life-size human figure to small polka dots, flowers or leopard spots.

The gluing technology is the same as for a whole sheet of vinyl film. The smaller the selected image, the easier it is to paste. There is no need to remove doors or fittings.

Using stickers

Small bright stickers will help you update your refrigerator or cover surface defects.. They can be distributed evenly, placed in corners, lined up, or assembled into a whole plot from small pictures.

Stickers with images are popular:

  • vegetables and fruits;
  • dishes;
  • colors;
  • letters, numbers and words;
  • animals, birds and sea life.

Particularly interesting are the three-dimensional options. performance.

Decorating the refrigerator with natural stone

An extraordinary solution would be a “stone refrigerator”, especially next to a set with a stone countertop.

You can handle the design of stone decor yourself using available materials:

  1. Wash the outside of the refrigerator thoroughly, remove dust, stains and grease. Wipe and dry the surface.
  2. Make blanks to imitate stones. To do this, you will need 5-7 glossy magazines, depending on the size of the refrigerator. Use your hands to tear them into pieces. different sizes and shapes, in order to later obtain a heterogeneous structure.
  3. Each piece will have to be glued by hand, so do not tear the sheets too small. The average size of the part is half the size of a palm.
  4. We glue the blanks overlapping onto the surface with PVA glue, lay the sheets tightly, leaving no gaps between them. We wait for the glue to dry completely.
  5. We moisten a cotton swab with acetone and wipe the pasted surface - the pieces of magazines will fade, the pictures will acquire a blurry structure.
  6. If some details are completely discolored, or, on the contrary, retain the design, they can be covered over with new scraps from another magazine. After drying, treat with acetone.
  7. Acetone evaporates instantly, the surface can be immediately varnished. Use parquet matte or semi-matte varnish for greater durability.
  8. When the varnish is dry, the refrigerator is ready for use.

The product will be additionally decorated with decoupage elements.. Choose translucent, dim designs.

Advice. It is recommended to use logs domestic production. The paint layer from foreign printing is often completely erased with acetone. Any images will do except human faces. It is also better not to take pages completely filled with text.

Conclusion

There are ways to decorate a refrigerator for any occasion. When changes are needed quickly and the budget is limited, magnets and tape will help. To cover the entire surface of the device, cover it with PVC film, wallpaper, and paint it.

Vinyl or magnetic stickers and decals are suitable for local decoration. Get creative by decoupaging or making a cover out of wine corks.

The refrigerator is one of the household appliances that must be present in any kitchen. But those times when housewives were quite satisfied with the presence of the “boring white box", passed. Now most of them are trying to decorate it somehow. Today, almost all major manufacturers have a line of “colored” models in their assortment, but, unfortunately, their choice is not so large, and they are more expensive. Therefore, you often have to decorate the refrigerator yourself. This can be done using both “magnets” and elite designer airbrush. We suggest you cover the refrigerator with self-adhesive film. This method allows you to apply almost any image without feeling a big blow to the family budget.

Which self-adhesive film to choose

Films can be either white or colored

Since the refrigerator is usually located in the kitchen, that is, in a room with increased level humidity, then, naturally, the film for decoration must have water-repellent properties.

The most popular self-adhesive film, also suitable for decorating a refrigerator, is ORACAL film. She tolerates adverse events very well weather, such as rain and snow, so high humidity indoors will not be a problem for her.

You can also use Dutch film AVERYDennison, German Orafol or Italian Ritrama. In addition, an inexpensive product from the Chinese company PromoFilm has recently appeared on the market. True, unlike analogues, it is available only in white. It is designed for subsequent printing.

In addition to film, you can use rolled self-adhesive paper to decorate the refrigerator. But given that the latter requires mandatory lamination after printing on it, this option will be more expensive.

Select a pattern

Thanks to the film, you can turn your ‘boring’ refrigerator into a real ‘art object’

One of the main advantages of decorating a refrigerator with film is that you are free to use almost any image as a design. However, when choosing a design, you need to ensure that it meets a number of requirements.

Image Size

To ensure that the image does not lose its quality when printed, it should be approximately the same size as the area you are going to decorate. Please note that the size of a picture on the Internet is in most cases indicated in pixels. They will have to be converted into the units of measurement familiar to you. One centimeter is equal to approximately 38 pixels, so if your refrigerator is, for example, 180 centimeters high and 55 centimeters wide, then minimum size The image should be 6800 by 2090 pixels.

Finding large-sized images on the Internet for free can be problematic. Therefore, it is more logical to choose a suitable picture from the company from which you will order printing on film. Often a design for printing is done free of charge.

Aspect Ratio

Since the height of the refrigerator is greater than its width, the image must have appropriate proportions. To make it easier for you to find a suitable picture, you need to select vertical or portrait orientation of the picture in the search parameters.

Abstract backgrounds are perfect for refrigerators of any size

Panoramic images, for example, with views of nature or a city at night, abstract patterns, full-length photos of people, and, of course, collages developed by designers specifically for these purposes are perfect for decorating a refrigerator.

Printing method and quality

Today, a large number of printing companies and advertising agencies offer a large format printing service.

The quality of printing on film is no different from the quality of photos in glossy magazines

To decorate a refrigerator with your own hands, it is recommended to use so-called interior printing. She's different big amount points per unit area, which allows you to make the image almost indistinguishable from a professional photograph in a glossy magazine. Of course, this printing method is not cheap, but considering that the image printed on the refrigerator will be viewed from a fairly close distance, it is not worth saving on this. Otherwise, every time you approach the refrigerator, you will see not the picture you chose, but a set of dots of different colors.

Preparing the refrigerator

When the image you have chosen is transferred to film, you need to prepare the refrigerator for pasting.

Dismantling of fittings

Before gluing the film to the surface of the refrigerator, it is necessary to dismantle all the fittings. The process may differ radically depending on its model, so it is recommended that you carefully study the instructions supplied with the refrigerator before starting work.

If you have experience in gluing film, then you don’t have to remove the refrigerator doors. If not, we recommend doing this, since it is easier to work with a horizontal surface. And considering the fact that the film with the image printed on it is not cheap, it is better to spend a little time than spoil the image.

Surface washing

The surface on which the film will be glued must be thoroughly washed and degreased (for this you can use a regular dishwashing detergent). After this, it should be dried. Make sure there are no small specks stuck to it.

Any speck or paint defect will become very noticeable after gluing the film.

How to glue film

There are two ways to apply self-adhesive film: dry and wet. If you have experience in gluing, then you can easily use the dry method. If not, then you shouldn’t even try, especially since we are talking about film with an image, the cost of which is quite high. Therefore, let's move straight to the wet method.

In addition to the film itself, for work you will need:

  • scissors;
  • a water spray bottle (the one that is used to wet clothes when ironing is perfect);
  • squeegee - a special spatula made of plastic or hard rubber.

If there is no special squeegee, you can use a plastic or rubber spatula.

If there is no special squeegee, you can use a plastic or rubber spatula

  1. The first step is to prepare a weak soap solution. To do this, add a little to ordinary water detergent for dishes. After mixing, the solution is poured into a spray bottle. It is from this that we will wet the surface of the refrigerator.
  2. Now we lay the film with the image on a flat surface (if there is no table of the required size, you can use the floor by first spreading a piece of clean fabric or polyethylene on it) with the image facing down.
  3. Separate a small (2–3 cm) strip of base from the top edge. Holding the edge, cut it along its entire length using scissors.
  4. Carefully turn the film over and apply the part with the adhesive base to the upper edge of the door (or wall) of the refrigerator. Do not wet the surface yet! Using a clean, dry cloth, smooth the edge of the film, ensuring it adheres over the entire area.
  5. If air bubbles have formed on the glued strip, you can try to “drive them out” using a squeegee. If this fails, you can simply pierce the bubble with a regular pin or needle, and then smooth it out with the same squeegee or dry cloth. Even if a small mark remains, it will be hidden by the fittings after installation.
  6. Roll the film into a roll with the image facing inward.
  7. We wet the surface of the door with spray from the place where the glued part of the film ends.
  8. Gradually tearing off the base, smooth the film to the surface, carefully leveling it with a squeegee.
  9. When all the film is pasted, we check the surface again for the absence of bubbles; if any are found, we “drive” them towards the nearest edge.
  10. Let the film dry and then install the fittings. The gluing is finished.

If small bubbles remain, do not worry - thanks to the soap solution, the film does not stick too much and such “flaws” will be removed without problems. Although, naturally, it is better to try to paste it so that no bubbles form.

You can also decorate your refrigerator using carbon film. The technology for its application is identical to that discussed above.

Pasting the pattern

Using film, you can apply not only a solid image to the refrigerator, but also an applique

Modern technologies make it possible not only to print on self-adhesive film image, but also cut out almost any pattern from it. Updating the refrigerator in this way is easier and cheaper, since you don’t have to dismantle the doors and fittings, and even the most intricate film pattern costs less.

In addition to the film cut on a plotter (this is the name of the device with which film is cut), you will need additional editing equipment. It is glued on top of the front side of the pattern. The rest of the gluing process is no different from that described above.

The image is transferred to the surface using ‘mounting’ film

'Wooden' refrigerator with country style image

Is your old refrigerator still functional, but very worn out and rusty in places?

Or maybe it seems to you that this large metal “box” does not fit into the interior? Or do you just want to add a little variety to your kitchen?

In this material we will talk about 8 ways to decorate a refrigerator, from DIY painting to decoupage, and also present 80 photo ideas for original modifications.

Method 1. Painting with slate paint and painting with crayons (+ master class)

The slate-coated refrigerator door is perfect place for notes: shopping and to-do lists, recipes and reminders, messages to household members and cute notes. And, of course, it’s very convenient for children to draw on such a “board” while mom cooks. To turn your refrigerator doors into whiteboards, you can choose one of the following four methods:

Method 1. Painting with slate paint. This method is somewhat more complicated than the others and, moreover, it eliminates the possibility of returning the surface to its original form. But you can paint not only the doors, but also the entire body of the equipment with slate paint, and the coating itself will be more durable.

Method 2. Finishing with chalk wallpaper. Chalk wallpaper is easier to work with, and most importantly, it can be peeled off without leaving marks on the surface of the equipment. However, the coating is not very durable and needs to be changed periodically. In addition, it is more difficult to use chalk wallpaper to decorate rounded doors, corners, and to go around handles, displays, and protruding parts when gluing. If you want to cover the entire body, the coating will have visible seams. For this reason, it is best to decorate only the door or part of the door with chalk wallpaper.

Method 3. Attaching a magnetic slate board. Such a board can be mounted and dismantled as easily as one large magnet, and you can not only draw on it, but also attach small magnets. Most often ready-made magnetic boards are not too large, and it is possible to purchase a large panel only to order.

Method 4. Attaching the slate board to neodymium magnets. This method is good because it allows you not to paint the refrigerator and, if desired, you can easily remove the chalk board.

How so big chalk board hanging on the refrigerator? The secret is simple - several neodymium magnets are glued to its back

Please note that the refrigerator does not have its own handles; its doors open using handles screwed to a chalk board

What you will need:

Thin sheet of plywood (3-6 mm); Slate paint, primer (preferably), paint brush/roller, ditch; Moldings for framing boards; Jigsaw or hand saw; Neodymium magnets with holes for screws (the price of one magnet is about 80 rubles, their number and adhesion strength depend on the weight of the board).

This super magnet, the size of a ruble coin, can easily hold 3 kg of weight.

Screwdrivers (according to the number of magnets), screwdriver; Stickers for furniture legs (they are needed to avoid scratches on the surface of the doors, as well as chips on the magnets themselves. Such stickers are sold in Ikea and construction stores. If desired, you can glue pieces of thin rubber or fleece-type fabric onto the magnets); Furniture handle for each board/door and screws for fastening.

Instructions:

Step 1. We measure the parameters of one or two refrigerator doors.

Step 2. Cut boards from a sheet of fiberboard exactly to the size of the doors.

Step 3. Paint the board with primer and wait for it to dry. Next, apply the first layer of slate paint, let it dry, apply the next layer and again leave it for the time recommended by the manufacturer. Finally, apply a third coat of paint (optional).

Step 4. While the paint is drying, unscrew the original handles of your refrigerator.

Step 5. We cut and install the moldings on the board (you can use wood glue). If desired, the moldings can be painted.

Step 6. Now we glue a protective cover on each magnet, then screw all the magnets onto the back side of the board. Be careful and strictly (!) follow the rules for working with neodymium magnets.

Neodymium magnets are small magnets, but very powerful. They are sold in special online stores in the most different forms, sizes and capacities (adhesion strength is indicated on the packaging). For our project, flat magnets are suitable so that the gap between the board and the door is not too large. The main thing is that the total adhesive force of the magnets exceeds the weight of your board twice (!), otherwise it will slide down.

Step 7. Hurray! The board is ready. Now we attach furniture handles to it.

Step 8: Now it's time to install the board(s). Try opening each door by pulling the handle, if the board doesn't move and the door opens easily then your project is complete. If you feel that the board is not magnetized to the door tightly enough, add a few more magnets.

Method 2. Vinyl stickers

Vinyl stickers are easy to stick and come off without a trace, they are inexpensive and are sold in the most different designs, and therefore they can be changed often according to your mood. For example, a refrigerator can be decorated with geometric shapes, images of animals, plant and floral motifs, words and phrases.

Vinyl stickers can be purchased at hardware stores, craft stores, various online stores (for example, Aliexpress), and can also be ordered from a printing house. You can cut simple refrigerator stickers with your own hands from self-adhesive paper.

Method 3. Film or magnetic panels with photo printing

Do you want to turn your refrigerator into a realistic one? telephone booth, a retro soda fountain or a bottle of your favorite drink? Or maybe you just want to transfer it to the door beautiful photo your authorship? Then your choice is vinyl film or magnetic vinyl (magnetic panel) with photo printing. Both coating options can not only decorate the refrigerator, but also protect its facades from scratches and dirt.

Film with photo printing differs in that it is glued by smoothing it manually or under the influence of warm air(at home this is done with a hairdryer). The latter easily fits even on rounded doors and corners of the refrigerator. Both types of film are suitable for decorating the entire body of equipment.

How to glue a sticker with photo printing on the refrigerator with your own hands? The first step is to degrease the surface with any degreaser or alcohol solution. The handles on the door must first be removed, and other protruding parts should also be removed. Then the film is carefully applied and simultaneously smoothed with some flat object (for example, by bank card), smooth out bubbles and wrinkles. Next, the film is folded along the edges, also smoothed, and the excess is cut off with a stationery knife. Finally, the handles are screwed into place.

Magnetic panels are flexible sheets of vinyl 0.5 mm thick with a magnetic back side and photo printing on the front side. Essentially, these are just large magnets that are made exactly to the size of the doors (but no more than 60 cm in width). Most often, doors are decorated with magnetic panels, but they can also be used to decorate the sides of the refrigerator. Magnetic vinyl is easy to install and remove without leaving any traces.

Method 4. Painting in a bright color, matching the headset or walls (+ master class)

Update old refrigerator or you can fit the equipment into the interior by simply painting it with metal paint. The main thing here is to choose the right color.

If you paint the refrigerator to match the wall or cabinetry, it will seem less bulky. This technique is especially good for small kitchens.

If the interior of your kitchen seems too boring to you, then the refrigerator can be painted in a very bright color.

In a kitchen interior in a retro, country or Provence style, a refrigerator in red or pastel color - powder pink or soft blue - will look great.

The best and easiest way to paint a refrigerator with your own hands is with spray paint. Ideally, it should be particularly resistant alkyd enamel or acrylic paint on metal. Canned paints will also work, but in this case it is important to use a quality paint brush to achieve a perfectly smooth finish.

Instructions:

Step 1. Lightly sand the surface to remove the gloss. If there is rust or chips somewhere, then we also remove them and smooth them out with sandpaper.

Step 2. Clean and degrease the surface with an alcohol solution.

Step 3. Use masking tape to cover everything that we want to protect from painting; cover the refrigerator compartment with film. Don't forget to lay film or newspapers on the floor and open the window.

Step 4. Shake the can well and begin to spray the paint evenly. thin layer and let it dry, then apply a second and third coat (if necessary). Remember that instead of one thick coat of paint, it is better to apply two thin ones.

To increase the durability of the paint and make it easier to apply, it is advisable to first coat the surface with a primer.

Step 5. Cover the surface with matte or glossy varnish, which will make the new coating more durable and moisture resistant.

Method 5. Hand painted

Hand painting can turn a refrigerator into a unique art object or simply into a very nice and “animate” piece of furniture. You can paint the technique with paints and brushes, special acrylic markers or airbrushes.

It is better to trust complex compositions to professionals, but you can draw a simple picture with your own hands, use a stencil or masking tape (to create stripes). Here is a large selection of photos of simple ideas for painting a refrigerator that even a beginner can implement.

From this video tutorial you will learn how to decorate an old refrigerator with your own hands using a stencil in the form of a lace tablecloth.

Method 6. Decoupage (+ master class)

Decoupage is a simple and great way update an old refrigerator, adapt it to the interior of a kitchen in a rustic or traditional style, add hand-painted or decorated moldings.

Decoupage of Side by side refrigerator

To decoupage the refrigerator you will need:

Multi-layer napkins with the desired print, or better yet, special cards for decoupage (they can be large in size, and the drawings themselves are already compiled into a composition); Scissors; PVA glue; Brushes: flat squirrel (for decoupage and applying varnish) and thin synthetic (for drawing details); Pencil (for marking and sketching); Acrylic paints; Acrylic varnish (matte, glossy or with craquelure effect).

Instructions:

Step 1. Prepare the surface: degrease with an alcohol solution if you plan to glue the design onto a factory finish, or paint the refrigerator in the desired color and wait until the paint dries.

Step 2. Separate the layer with the pattern from the napkin and use scissors to cut out the desired element along the contour. Cut as many pieces as needed.

Step 3. Start gluing the first drawing: coat the underside of it with glue, place it in the desired place, then carefully smooth out the bubbles and folds with a brush, remove excess glue with a damp cloth using a tamping motion. Next, glue all the other blanks, moving from the center to the edges, starting with large and ending with small elements.

Before gluing the napkins, it is advisable to apply markings to the surface of the door.

Step 4. When the whole composition is in place, draw small parts and contours.

Step 5. Apply matte or glossy varnish to the drawing in two or more layers to give it greater strength and moisture resistance.

Method 7. Decoration with moldings and “carved” parts (+ master class)

If your kitchen is decorated in classic style, then a grandiose project of converting the refrigerator into... an antique sideboard will help you fit a free-standing refrigerator into its interior.

View of an old refrigerator before and after renovation

What you will need for decoration:

Moldings made of wood or PVC; Carved furniture decor made of wood/PVC or stucco molding made of plaster/polyurethane in the shape of a crown, as well as patterned corners (if possible); Saw for cutting moldings; Glue for metal.

What you will need for painting:

Adhesive primer; White chalk paint (you can make it yourself using recipes from the Internet or buy, say, from designer Daria Geller); Chalk paint of the main color; Paint brush, 1 round brush 8-7 cm in diameter (useful for both painting and waxing), a medium flat brush (for waxing); Dark-colored wax (can be replaced with a mixture of colorless wax and dark brown paint); The wax is colorless; Painting supplies: film, masking tape etc.

With pastel paint and a few decorative moldings, you can turn an old refrigerator into a real piece of art. The advantage of this project is that sloppy painting will not only not spoil the appearance, but will only add charm to the overall design.

Modern garden plot It’s hard to imagine without a fence - beautiful, durable, protecting from prying eyes. The most important part of the fence is the installation of gates entrance area. You can buy ready-made products, make them yourself, or order them from a workshop. individual drawing. Convenient option- wooden gates, which are in no way inferior to metal ones, and in some respects even surpass them.

Peculiarities

Wooden gates look traditional for Russia, they can be made compatible with other fences adopted in the area. Thus, it will be possible to achieve appearance a fence similar to dozens of others. If you want to stand out and show your status, you can use tinting or wood carving. To achieve harmony, it is enough to make the fence in the same style as wooden house standing on the site.

Many masterpieces wooden architecture have stood for centuries under snow, rain and varying temperatures. If the technology is followed correctly, the gate will last a long time. It is worth considering that for windy areas solid canvases are not the best option. The style design can have many variations, for example, the lower part is solid, and the upper part is openwork or lattice. This way you will not only decorate the fence, but also reduce the wind load that constantly acts on it. As a result, after a strong storm you will not have to raise a tilted fence.

Advantages

Wood - traditional construction material, used for thousands of years. It is easy to process and relatively inexpensive.

Wooden gates have the following advantages:

  • Low cost compared to metal models.
  • High strength characteristics.
  • Long service life (more than 10 years) if the wood is treated protective impregnation, it will last even longer.
  • Environmental Safety- wood does not emit harmful fumes into the atmosphere.
  • Possibility of use various types decor to add personality.
  • Allowed self-production using inexpensive building materials.

Flaws

The design is not without some disadvantages:

  • Susceptibility to rotting - the material is destroyed under the influence of water.
  • Fire hazard - wood easily catches fire; in the event of a fire, the gate can completely burn out.
  • Strength characteristics are lower than those of metal.
  • Heavy weight - fences sheathed with polycarbonate or corrugated sheets weigh less.
  • Low level of protection against vandals - traces of marker or spray paint will not be easy to remove from the surface.

Kinds

For the manufacture of gates, resistant to high humidity types of wood. Mainly used are pine, larch and oak. Nowadays, it is rare to find fences made entirely of wood. Mainly used metal carcass, and the boards are used for cladding the doors.

But first of all, models are distinguished by type of construction; today only 4 varieties are common.

Swing

A universal solution, the doors are mounted on hinged hinges; if the doors are heavy, bearing fittings are used. One door may be wider than the other. Among the advantages of swing models is the low price for square meter and simple installation. Recommended driveway width Vehicle- 3.5–4 m, height - at least 2 m.

Support pillars must be at least 20 cm higher than the sashes. If you plan to install a canopy, it is worth considering that it will prevent you from leaving trucks. To bring in building materials, you will have to place the canopy on supports about 4 meters high. Since fences often warp due to the wind, a moving pin will have to be secured between the two sashes. It will go into the ground or a special cylinder and fix the doors.

To simplify operation, it is convenient to install automation, with the help of which opening and closing is carried out. To control you only need a remote control with a few buttons.

Swing gates also have disadvantages:

  • free space is required to open them;
  • the ground will need to be leveled, otherwise the doors will cling to every bump;
  • strong supports are needed that will support the weight of the structure, otherwise the gate may fall from wind load;
  • in winter you will have to clear the snow to get to the dacha, otherwise the snowdrifts will not allow you to open the doors.

Recoil

When opened, the door moves to the side, that is, the gate operates on the principle of a sliding wardrobe. Exist as mechanical sliding gates, and automatic. This option is often chosen for a warehouse or construction site, since it is more convenient to use this model. The maximum span is 11 meters, which allows large trucks to pass easily. Even after a snowfall, you won’t have to worry about clearing the snow.

The disadvantage is that:

  • You cannot plant plants close to the fence. The sash will move to the side; there should be free space on the side near the fence;
  • To install the rails, you need a prepared concrete base, otherwise it will warp and the carriage will not be able to move freely;
  • only experienced master will take on the task of installing a sliding model; not everyone can do it on their own;
  • This mechanism with a carriage will cost much more than conventional hinges. The price can reach 30,000 rubles.

Lifting

Previously, such modifications could only be seen in ancient castles. But now they are being produced again, only the lifting of a heavy door is carried out not through physical force, but with the help electrical mechanism. Products with wooden elements are rare; metal ones are more common. Due to their large mass, these models are used only when connected to an electrical outlet.

If you're gardening without electricity, you may not want to lift and lower a heavy frame by hand. The price of such a structure is high; installation must be carried out by a specialist.

Gate with wicket

Any of the modifications described above can be equipped with a gate. In this case, an opening is cut out inside the canvas and a door is mounted inside. Another option is to install the gate as a separate leaf.

To improve this structure, you can make a viewing window in the door, install a visor and an intercom.

Installation

You need to start the installation with the foundation, since the gate will be subject to dynamic and static loads; the foundation must be very strong and heavy. The foundation can be a large wooden log that needs to be dug in and doors hung on top. But wood in damp conditions due to temperature changes will one way or another rot, even if it is impregnated with bitumen. It is best to make the base from concrete with reinforcement metal mesh or a rod.

The depth of the foundation on heaving soils should be no less than the freezing depth. This value can be found in tables; for example, in the North-West of the Russian Federation this parameter is approximately 1.7 meters. To build a reliable foundation, you need to dig a rectangular hole of sufficient depth. Ruberoid or film is placed at the bottom of the hole, large boulders are placed on top, then filled with concrete.

The pillars on which the gate will be supported are laid out from ordinary solid brick; reinforced concrete ones are also suitable. Metal supports to strengthen the gate leaves also need to be poured cement mortar to prevent the structure from swinging.

TO metal poles Loops or places for their fastening can already be welded at the factory. If used solid brick, it is necessary to secure the hinges while laying. For wooden modifications, the hinges are screwed onto nuts; it is advisable to coat the wood with an antiseptic in advance. The gates must be installed at a distance of at least 50 mm from the ground, otherwise the gates will not be able to open if any snow or even fallen leaves enter.

The frame for the gate can be made of wood or picket fence, connecting its elements on metal corners or without them. In the second case, it is advisable to connect the opposite corners with struts. It is possible to join the tree into a tenon or a dovetail.

A welded structure is more reliable; such a product can be made from a metal profile using welding.

Decor

You can decorate any gate with your own hands, even old ones, and you don’t have to spend a lot of money.

Basic design methods:

  • Coloring- ordinary stain or Pinotex can turn ordinary pine wood into oak or ash. Also, the paint layer will protect the surface from atmospheric influences and pollution. For the aging effect, in addition to paint, you will need copper sulfate, which will give the tree a grayish tint.
  • Antique painting- usually the pattern is placed with inside. But if you need to decorate the entrance to any institution, the decoration can also be on the outside. Most likely, you will need the help of a professional artist; to create an unusual effect, you can use Khokhloma painting.

  • Finishing with forged elements- attracts attention, creates a feeling of respectability. If the upper part of the doors is made of metal lace, the gates will transmit light better and be less subject to wind load.

It is worth noting that forged elements They are resistant to corrosion, but few people dare to use them at the dacha. Such decorations will be expensive and will attract intruders if the homeowner does not live on the country estate year-round.

  • Thread- allows you to turn an ordinary product into a work of art. Only an experienced person can handle carving, but he will need a set of chisels - special tools. It is profitable to order carving in a workshop, where it will be done on a CNC machine, which will allow you to bring to life the most complex relief. Handmade It will cost more, and besides, now few craftsmen know this technique. But you can buy ready-made ones in the store. carved panels and attach them to the canvases with your own hands.
  • Wood paneling- if the gate has a metal frame and the top is planned to be covered with wood, there are many decorating options. You can fasten the boards horizontally, vertically, diagonally or fancy, alternating different directions for laying the material.
