How to spell the word grinder instrument. “Bulgarian” - the history of the name and the secrets of choosing the right tool. Main components of an angle grinder

An angle grinder is an electric angle grinder that can be used to cut metal, angle, stone, and slate.

It is possible to grind welds or clean rusty formations from the surface.

This power tool allows you to clean wooden surfaces and cut ceramic products.

Let's figure out why angle grinders were called that, why they are used, what is the difference between one angle grinder model and another, depending on the class?

Why was the Bulgarian called that?

First, you need to figure out why a grinder is called a “grinder”. An angle grinder is an angle grinder, which is used for cutting both wood and stone, and for grinding different surfaces. The name “grinder” appeared in 1970 in the USSR. Then the Bulgarian factory, which still makes angle grinders, produced the first samples of the tool. The “homeland” of the instrument is Bulgaria, which is why it is called that. People appreciated the “Helper”; since then the name “Bulgarian” has stuck with useful tool and has reached our times. Despite the cute name, the angle grinder - the grinder - has a very tough but loyal character!

Angle grinders (angle grinders) offered on the market have many differences. How does one grinder model differ from another? This tool can be divided according to the scope of application into economic and industrial classes.

For example, if the classes are swapped, then it will be very difficult to use an industrial grinder on the farm due to its weight, dimensions and power; you need to use another one.

As far as industry is concerned, light small an angle grinder will be of little use there, because it simply cannot perform many difficult operations due to its lightness, low power and limited functionality.

To select a universal electric tool it is necessary to decide on the type of work planned. If they are large enough, then a tool with a low price and a small list of functions will not be suitable.

How are they different in industry?

The purpose of an angle grinder in industry depends on its class, the difference between which is as follows:

Economy class

Inexpensive sander with limited equipment important details and devices. Some models of this class do not have sufficient reliability and safety. The tool is well suited for rare and short-term work.

The body of an angle grinder - an angle grinder - can withstand minor loads. Although the fastening is quite strong, this does not always guarantee ease of use.

What is it for? For household work the tool fits well, but it is worth keeping in mind that the engine is not equipped with dust protection; during operation, small particles will get inside and accelerate the wear of moving parts. This will lead to the need to repair the instrument. Metallic dust causes a short circuit.

For repair and construction work a more expensive and reliable angle grinder angle grinder with high quality characteristics.

Middle class

Equipment of this type is quite convenient and safe to use.

Has sealing inserts and paint coating engine, which prevents dirt from penetrating into the instrument. Angle grinders (angle grinders) are designed for domestic use; they have a clamping mechanism, ensuring quick adjustment of the position of the protective casing.

The tool is equipped with convenient start buttons that respond even to pressure with a finger in a rubber sleeve. The ability to screw the handle on either side makes the use of such a tool convenient not only for right-handers, but also for left-handers.

To ensure that the tool can be used comfortably, certain models Grinders of grinders support the installation of the handle on top.

Professional class

A professional instrument very rarely requires repairs. grinding machine– Bulgarians. The mechanisms are protected from dust, and the tool itself is equipped with a soft start function, which allows you to gradually increase the speed of rotation and operation of the disk.

The grinder can be connected to a lower power circuit.

A tool of this class is equipped with vibration protection thanks to a powerful auto-balance system for the working disk.

Criterias of choice

You need to choose an angle grinder, paying attention to several criteria.

First: scope.

Second: the number of handles.

Third: equipment elements must be rubberized.

Power and disk size

Bulgarian women have different sizes and circle diameters. Minimum size equals 115 mm. This circle is designed for more simple work. The most large size the diameter is considered to be 230 mm. With the help of such a circle it is possible to cut bricks, slabs, pipes and everything you need. Optimal choice A circle for homework will be considered to have a diameter of 125 mm. To renovate a house or apartment, you need to choose a circle equal to 180 mm. The power of the tool varies from 0.5 to 2.5 kW.

The choice of this parameter depends on the duration of operation and motor power. The engine power must be sufficient to spin the disk.

Additional options

Among the many additional options, it is worth noting the soft start function. The system allows the tool to start without jerking, smoothing out power surges that occur in the electrical network.

You should pay attention to the presence of auto-balancing of the disk. This option is useful in cases where the discs wear unevenly.

Vibration is smoothed and reduced. A higher power angle grinder must be protected from jamming. This function allows you to avoid a negative situation and consequences in which the electric motor can turn off automatically.

Conclusion

Do not forget that long-term and frequent overloads can cause breakdowns and failure of an electrical appliance. When carrying out work, it is necessary to periodically make stops, which, in turn, will help not only eliminate and prevent overheating, but also save the user from carrying out unscheduled repairs. Repairs can often be quite expensive.

To purchase quality equipment You need to ask the seller for a quality certificate for the device you are purchasing. It will be important to maintain the tool throughout the warranty period. Manufacturers who care about the reputation of their company provide a very long warranty for their products, which will protect the buyer from purchasing low-quality and defective equipment.

Users who choose a tool based on the price-quality principle note many positive aspects from the Bulgarian, good timing services.

If all standards, safety precautions, and working conditions are followed, the equipment can serve faithfully for quite a long time. In case of breakdown after correct operation repair of the device can be much cheaper compared to the cost of repair if the device is used incorrectly in unsuitable conditions or used for other purposes.

Grinder: what is it, why is it called that, how can it be used, device diagram

Today in everyday life almost everyone home handyman There is a Bulgarian. However, many people do not know why it is called that and what functions this tool can perform besides regular cutting. From this article you will learn the origin of the unusual name of the grinder, its structure, and what else it can be used for.

What is the correct name for a grinder?

The familiar name to everyone - grinder - is so common that few people remember why it is called that. This tool is correctly called angle Sander(angle grinder). It was originally intended for processing internal corners at the junctions of two planes. The first copies of such machines arrived in Soviet Union from then-friendly Bulgaria, where they were produced. According to the common habit of the people, they tried to shorten the long and inconvenient name. As a result, a new word has firmly entered into everyday use - Bulgarian. But the correct name is indicated on the packaging - angle grinder.

Sometimes manufacturers use the SHMU (angle grinder) or LNA variant.

Gradually, all power tools that looked similar to the prototype began to be called this way. Although there is a difference between them. For example, a grinder is often called a cutting machine.

There is undoubtedly an external similarity, but the cutting machine is equipped with a platform so that the cut is directed perpendicular to the surface being processed, which is how it differs from the grinder.

What can this tool do?

The classic grinder is hand power tool with an abrasive wheel. The main purpose of the grinder is to process flat joints metal surfaces. However, it can be used for other operations. The main wheel is great for cutting sheet metal, end cutting of pipes and fittings. Simple replacement of the working circle with a disc with sandpaper The sander turns into a polisher. You can use a grinder in this capacity by processing pipes for railings, flat or curved surfaces up to mirror shine. In addition to metal work, a grinder can be used for cutting ceramic tiles. To do this, you need to use a concrete circle as a working disk. The list of operations that can be done using an angle grinder is very wide.

Each type of material requires special discs for its processing:

  • grinding disc for metal 5-6 mm thick;
  • flap sanding disc;

  • cutting wheel for metal 2 mm thick;

  • cutting wheel for concrete and ceramics with a diamond edge;

Design and principle of operation of an angle grinder

The design of an angle grinder is quite complex. What an angle grinder consists of can be understood by looking at the figure below.

The design of the machine can be divided into two parts:

  • electrical;
  • mechanical.

Simplified electrical diagram The angle grinder looks like this:

The heart of the angle grinder is the commutator motor alternating current. The supply voltage is supplied through the stator winding via carbon brushes to the rotor commutator (rotating part) of the electric motor. The rotor contains sections of windings, the terminals of which are located on the rotor armature plate.

Cheap and low-power angle grinders rotate at a constant speed. More powerful models are equipped with a regulator on the handle that allows you to change the engine speed.

Bearings mounted in the housing are mounted on both sides of the rotor shaft. This ensures stable shaft direction during operation. The rotation of the electric motor is transmitted to a gearbox, which changes the direction of rotation and transmits torque to the cutting wheel.

The gearbox consists of two helical gears. The small one is put on the motor shaft, and the large one is on the gearbox axis. A working tool (wheel) is attached to the part of the gearbox axis that extends outwards - the spindle. Professional models are equipped with a release clutch - it stops the rotation of the working part of the tool if for any reason the wheel gets stuck in the material being processed. Without such a coupling, the wheel disk may break and fly into fragments. different sides. Part of the circle's surface is covered protective casing, protecting the face and hands from flying from under cutting edge sawdust and dust.

The working circle is secured to the spindle with a quick-release nut using a special wrench. The immobility of the spindle when tightening the nut is ensured by a button on the side of the gearbox housing opposite the circle. The plastic body of the angle grinder has longitudinal slotted holes. They cannot be closed during operation; the electric motor is cooled through them.

Angle grinder. Let's cut and clean!

Almost any man uses a power tool as needed - to cut something, grind something, drill something. One of the most popular electrical mechanisms An angle grinder (angle grinder) is used to perform various jobs.

Why is an angle grinder called an angle grinder?

An angle grinder is also popularly called an angle grinder. To understand where this name came from, you need to dig a little into history.

In the Soviet Union, the word “Bulgarian” appeared in everyday life in the late sixties of the last century. At that time, far from us, the Bulgarians bought a license from the Bosch company to produce angle grinders. Since the goods of capitalist countries were unavailable in the USSR, this instrument of Bulgarian production appeared in the fatherland. At that time, Bulgaria was a country of the socialist community, and trade relations We had a good relationship with this state. Therefore, in the USSR, first of all, angle grinding machines of this country appeared, hence the name. The instrument from Bulgaria began to be called the “grinder”.

Types of angle grinders and their purpose

An angle grinder is a tool necessary for carrying out construction or repair work. This tool is convenient to use when material needs to be cut, cleaned, or sanded. Of course, all this work can be done using hand tools, but then you will have to spend a lot of time.

The “grinder” is considered a fairly universal tool; it can be used to perform various types of work:

  • Clean weld seams;
  • Cut metal (for example, a drainpipe);
  • Grind various surfaces;
  • Cut concrete or stone (using a special abrasive wheel);
  • Work with ceramic tiles.

The scope of application of angle grinders is wide; it would be difficult to list all the work performed with its help. Angler grinders are divided into two types according to their intended purpose: professional and household. Unlike household grinders, professional machines can work in a more difficult mode, withstanding long-term loads. True, such a tool costs more - more quality materials. The electric motor of a professional angle grinder is capable of operating almost continuously for several hours without overheating.

Angle grinders also differ in size. Large grinders allow you to use cutting wheels of larger diameter; a small angle grinder can only accommodate a small disc. Each angle grinder size has its own advantages when carrying out certain works, and it will not always be convenient to use a large grinder. Big tool convenient to use when you need:

  • Make a deep cut (for example, cut a large diameter pipe);
  • Cut through a thick layer of material;
  • Treat hard materials (concrete, stone).

Small grinders are convenient for performing various grinding and polishing work. First of all, the angle grinder was intended for this purpose - it’s not for nothing that the name of the tool contains the word “grinding”.

Characteristics of angle grinder

The main characteristics determine in what capacity it is best to use an angle grinder. We can highlight:

  • Disk rotation speed (number of revolutions);
  • Power;
  • Functionality;
  • Weight and size.

Rotation speed is important in professional activity. With a low number of revolutions, it is impossible to carry out some work, or the processing process will progress slowly. Some types of work must be performed only at reduced disk speeds. Many inexpensive grinders have only one speed. As a rule, it is quite high (about 10–11 thousand rpm).

The power of modern angle grinders ranges from 500 to 2800 watts. It doesn't hurt to have some extra power, and usually a professional tool is more powerful.

Weight and size are also of considerable importance for various works. It is not always convenient to use a large angle grinder, despite the high power of the tool. For example, when cleaning car body parts, a bulky angle grinder will be difficult to hold for a long time, and in general it will be inconvenient to use a large tool. A small machine will not be able to make a deep cut, since it is impossible to install a large cutting disc into it.

Functionality is important for carrying out complex work, requiring special conditions. TO additional functions Angle grinder can be classified as:

  • Availability of speed control;
  • Possibility of smooth start;
  • The presence of an additional handle;
  • Availability additional protection from vibration.

Cutting disc parameters

Cutting discs (circles) are determined by two main parameters:

  1. Size,
  2. Purpose by type of material.

There are five main diameters of cutting wheels: 230, 180, 150, 125 and 115 mm, but professional discs can be 300 mm or larger. Accordingly, larger diameter wheels are suitable for larger angle grinders. Cutting discs also have different thicknesses, and it can be from 1 to 4 mm.

The circles differ in their purpose - in the type of material that you will have to deal with when working. There are discs for metal, stone, wood, reinforced concrete. The circles themselves can be made from different materials and have different shape.

Choosing an angle grinder for home use

For work at home, there is no need to buy a large grinder - just purchase a tool designed to install a cutting disc from 115 to 150 mm. Because, angle grinder small size do not have very high power, then you should choose the most optimal model by this parameter. The best solution will purchase a machine with a consumption of 1000-1200 watts.

It is better to choose a tool model with a speed controller and a “soft” start - the angle grinder will start smoothly, and at different speeds it will be possible to process materials more efficiently. You should also pay attention to the comfort of the handle. It would be nice if the handle had anti-vibration properties.

And another important factor is the choice of tool manufacturer. You should not buy an angle grinder of unknown origin - everyone knows that the miser pays twice. There are many popular brands that have proven themselves only on the positive side. It is unlikely that purchasing an angle grinder from Metabo, Bosch, DeWALT, or Makita will be a disappointment. And, of course, you shouldn’t buy a second-hand instrument.

For what purposes is the grinder used and why did it get such a name?

Sometimes during the renovation process, including when laying tiles, it is necessary to cut some material. When tiling, a conventional tile cutter may not cope with its task, for example, if it is necessary to make a curved cut. In this situation, an angle grinder (angle grinder), as the grinder is correctly called, is used. Let us consider in this article why the angle grinder received such a strange name, as well as its structure and main areas of application.

Why did the Bulgarian get such a name?

So, let's look at why the grinder is called the grinder. In general, it is incorrect to call it this way. The term angle grinder is more appropriate, as it reveals the basic essence of the design and application of this tool. The term “grinder” is more familiar to our ears, because some self-taught craftsmen do not always know the correct name. Came into our everyday life this term back in the 70s of the last century. This is due to the fact that it was during this period that this instrument appeared in the Soviet Union, and it was released in Bulgaria. The name “grinder” is shorter and understandable to almost everyone, so it is unofficially more widespread.

Consideration of what can be done with an angle grinder

Firstly, a grinder is used where you need to cut something at an angle, for example, a pipe coming out of a wall. You can also use it to cut a strip in a sheet of material, where it can be quite difficult to operate with a regular hacksaw.

Secondly, the grinder is used for grinding various surfaces. For this purpose, special nozzles are used, which can be purchased at any hardware store. It should be understood that the grinder is used for rough grinding of surfaces, since semicircular marks from the nozzle remain on it. Finer grinding is done using professional grinders.

You can also sharpen the grinder. Thus, you can prepare the ends of the pipes before cutting the thread or adjust it after cutting so that the coupling or nut is screwed on more easily.

A grinder is also used to trim the tiles before laying them. In this case, work should be carried out wearing a mask and goggles to protect against dust. Trimming is done using a special diamond-coated cutting wheel. It should be remembered that with the help of a grinder you can make not only a straight cut, but also a curved one.

Main components of an angle grinder

The design of an angle grinder may vary among different manufacturers, so we will consider only its main components. This will allow you to understand what you should pay attention to when choosing this tool, as well as identify a malfunction in the event of a breakdown.

Main components:

  • grinder body. It is made of impact-resistant plastic and is designed to hold all the elements arranged in it in place. Also, with the help of the housing, the operator’s force is transmitted to the equipment;
  • gearbox It consists of gears, with the help of which the axis of rotation rotates 90 degrees. Also, gears allow you to reduce the number of revolutions to the optimal level;
  • electric motor It is located in the tool body and is designed to drive the drive gear of the gearbox, from which torque is transmitted to the driven gear. There is a disk on the axis of the large driven gear;
  • electronics, which may include various systems soft start, start button, speed maintenance, etc.

Thus, we learned what the grinder is correctly called, as well as for what purposes it is used and what main components it consists of.

Additional Information.

The names of many objects in Russian speech are given their names by the name of the country in which they first appeared or from where they originally came to us, even if they appeared in some other place. We have a Finnish knife, a Dutch stove, a polka dance, etc. There is also the word “grinder” in this series. Let's look at how this instrument got its name.

Where did the name “Bulgarian” come from?

After reading the first paragraph, it should already be clear to you why the grinder is called the grinder. This name was assigned to it as a result of the fact that for the first time this instrument began to be supplied en masse to the USSR in the 70s from the then friendly country of the socialist bloc, Bulgaria. There was an inscription on the nameplate that this product was made in this country, so our people began to call this car an angle grinder.

It was produced at the Sparky Eltos factory, whose instruments can now be freely purchased under the Sparky brand. At a time when there was a shortage of many things, including tools, there were no other companies producing grinders for sale. Thus, the Bulgarian was destined to receive such a name.

It is worth noting that the Sparky brand among specialists is usually classified as a semi-professional class. At the same time, there is enough on the market brands professional tool, the same Makita, Hitachi or Bosch, the prices of which are approximately on the same level as Sparky. Therefore, buying an instrument from a Bulgarian brand is not very relevant today, although there are still ardent supporters of this brand who cannot be forced to buy anything else.

What is the correct name for a grinder?

From the above it becomes clear that the name “grinder” is common. But this tool has a term that precisely defines it. The grinder should correctly be called an angle grinder, or angle grinder for short.

Why this name?

  • Grinding, because there are a large number of grinding attachments for this tool. And although it is more often used for cutting work, using cutting discs for metal or stone, there are nevertheless much more attachments for grinding.
  • Angled, because the shaft on which the attachments are attached is located at an angle of 90 degrees to the body, unlike a straight grinder, where the shaft is parallel to it.

Now you know where the name “grinder” came from and how to correctly call this instrument. You may also be interested in learning how to choose an angle grinder. You can also find information on this topic on our website.
