Practical homemade products for the modern garage. Useful homemade products: decorating the garage with shelves and racks Making rack shelves for the garage

For car enthusiasts, the garage often becomes a second home. In addition to its main purpose - storing a car, a garage is also used for car repairs, and for repairing tools and household appliances, and for other purposes. This is where unnecessary things are usually taken, old furniture, which is a pity to throw away, some household appliances that need repairing, old bicycles and even inflatable boats for fishing enthusiasts. Everyone has their own list of rubbish stored in the garage, however, over time, its quantity usually increases and makes our life very difficult.

Why do you need garage shelving?

Among the main reasons to install shelving in the garage, we note the following:

  • Firstly, difficulties arise when entering and leaving the car.
  • Secondly, in the accumulation of old things it can be difficult to find necessary tools, get to the details you need at the moment.
  • Thirdly, the aesthetic appearance of such a garage leaves much to be desired, in addition, such chaos in the room gets on your nerves and takes up a lot of time.
  • Fourthly, in a cluttered garage the risk of fire increases, and it will be much more difficult to cope with the resulting ignition, because flammable substances are usually stored in the garage: gasoline, oils.

Of course, there are exceptions. Some garage owners manage to keep them in perfect order, where everything is laid out on shelves, hung on hooks, sorted by purpose. If you have noticed, in such rooms there are usually shelves along the walls on which all the contents of the garage are laid out.

Advice ! A garage is not a museum or an exhibition, and absolute order on the shelves does not always correspond to the state of a person’s soul. The main advantage of shelving in the garage is the convenience and comfort of work; it allows you to perfectly navigate your stocks and folded items. In addition, you definitely need a tire storage rack in your garage.

As practice shows, the rack remains the best option for storing tools, spare parts and other garage equipment. It has sufficient capacity, does not take up much space, and open access to the shelves allows you to quickly find the item you need. The rack will be convenient for storing both large-sized parts and fairly heavy objects.

If you decide to organize the contents of your garage, a shelving unit will make it much easier for you to get organized. And to figure out what is most suitable for your garage, you need to familiarize yourself with the possible options.

Conventionally, the available types of racks are distinguished:

  • stationary;
  • prefabricated;
  • mobile;
  • rotating.

The stationary structure is installed in the garage on permanent place, for greater stability can be fixed to the wall, usually made non-removable. The advantages of this scheme include high strength and the ability to accommodate the heaviest parts and tools. It is made from durable, wear-resistant materials and will easily withstand use for several decades.

Most often, prefabricated metal garage shelving is available for sale. They are made of perforated metal racks to which horizontal shelves are attached. They are usually sold disassembled, with a set of necessary fasteners. The assembly of this option is quite accessible to everyone, even those who do not have special repair skills. The advantage is that you can change the height of the shelves depending on your needs. This way, you can store both a set of spare tires and large tools.

Mobile options have small wheels, thanks to which you can move the entire set of tools around the garage, and, if necessary, even roll it outside. The advantage of this design is its mobility, the ability to easily rearrange the garage from one point of the garage to another without unloading its contents, and also to roll everything up at once necessary tools to the place of repair. But its carrying capacity is inferior to the non-collapsible version. This rack is also sold disassembled and assembled with a screwdriver directly in the garage, like a construction set.

A rotating rack can be purchased to store light, small-sized tools and parts, as well as nails, bolts, screws and other small items. He has small sizes, but it will be easy for you to find the required part, turning the rack around the axis of rotation. At the same time, you can free up space on a large rack for massive items.

If you wish, you can not buy a ready-made shelving for the garage, but make it yourself.

Before you buy or make a shelving unit, you need to decide what space in the garage you can allocate for it. It is best to place it along one of the walls, or along the entire length of the wall. The height is limited by the height of the garage ceiling, and the width is determined by your needs. It is advisable to leave a distance between the rack and the car of at least 80 cm in order to have free access to the shelves, as well as to protect the car from possible heavy objects falling from the shelves.

In addition to the dimensions, decide on the expected load on the structure, think about what you will put on it. Perhaps, for the convenience of placing tools, you will need not one, but two racks on opposite walls, or one solid stationary one and one mobile one. All this is determined from the point of view of convenience, it depends on the type of work performed in the garage, and for what additional purposes you use it.

It's easy to make a garage rack with your own hands. If you haven't done this kind of thing before, this will be good practice.

How to make a garage rack with your own hands

Before construction, it is necessary to determine the dimensions of the product and make a drawing indicating the dimensions. The length of the shelving depends on the length of the wall or your needs. The height is limited by the height of the ceiling in the garage.

The width of the shelves, that is, the distance between the vertical posts, is usually about 1 meter; if necessary, it can be increased to 1.5 meters, no more, as this will reduce the strength of the shelves.

The depth of the shelves usually varies from 30 to 60cm, depending on your individual preferences. The height of the shelves can be different, for example, the topmost shelf can be made up to about 30cm for storing small and light items. The middle shelves are up to 60cm high, and the height of the lower shelf is increased to 1 meter to accommodate large items and heavy spare parts.

To build a rack, it is better to use durable and reliable materials that can withstand heavy mechanical loads so that they last for a maximum of years.

Tools for making a metal rack with wooden shelves:

  • ruler, level, tape measure;
  • Bulgarian;
  • welding machine;
  • construction pencil;
  • hand saw;
  • paint brush;
  • drill, hammer, screwdriver, pliers.

To build a set of shelving, you will need to purchase metal for racks (a metal rod or pipe), metal corners, boards for shelves or thick plywood (chipboard), from the heels of electrodes for electric welding, a primer for metal and paint, dowels and brackets (if you plan to attach the rack to wall).

Let's get started

Oddly enough, the most difficult thing in making shelving for a garage is planning and detailed thinking - where and how tools, spare parts, paints and varnishes, old junk, so that everything is at hand and does not interfere with work.

To make shelving for the garage, we will follow the approximate order of work:

  1. Use a grinder to cut the metal into the required lengths indicated in the drawing.
  2. On the vertical racks, mark the places where the shelves are attached.
  3. Weld metal corners onto the vertical supports by welding. Before welding the corners, you need to make sure that their location on adjacent racks is symmetrical so that the shelves do not turn out to be inclined.
  4. After the metal base is welded, it must be primed well and then painted to protect it from rust.
  5. Cut to size of shelves wooden boards, you can make shelves from boards, plywood or OSB.
  6. To make the rack more stable, the vertical posts are attached to the garage wall with brackets.

Important ! When making shelving, leave as much room for alteration and modification of the design as possible. Probably, tomorrow, or in the near future, you will have new ideas, and it will be a pity to cut the tightly welded or concreted frame and shelves of the rack.

Wooden shelving in the garage is even easier to assemble. To install them, it is necessary to concrete the corners No. 50 and 10-15 cm high into the floor and wall. Samu load-bearing structure made from 75-100mm timber. If the bottom shelf is selected to be 70% of the car tire diameter, this design can be used in the garage as a rack for wheels.

I'm tired of paying rent warehouse, and I wanted to get my garage organized, so I decided it was time to make some shelving. At first I thought about purchasing them, but after calculating how much they would cost, I got the idea to make them myself.

Shelving design

In between working on two projects, I tried my best to think through the most functional design. About two weeks later I had an idea. I started by measuring the garage, calculating how many shelves I needed and how to divide the space between them. My garage is 5.5m long, but given local lumber size standards, the decision was made to make a 5m rack. The distance from floor to ceiling was 2.75 m. The closest board length to this measurement was 2.45 m. Naturally, I didn't want to leave a 30 cm gap between the top of the rack and the ceiling, so I will use a 3 meter board , cutting it to the required length. While deciding on the height of the shelves, I thought about the main purpose: storage drawers to keep things more organized. My drawers are 42 cm high, but I wanted to leave them on top small space, so the shelf height was chosen to be 45 cm.
I also need to store some equipment (for climbing, diving, hiking), and I wanted to place it on a rack. To avoid piling one thing on top of another, I decided to make one shelf 30 cm high.
At the moment, like most homeowners, I have accumulated a lot of different things (rakes, shovels, snowboard, wetsuit). I also needed to find a place for all this. So I needed a compartment where I could hang hooks and hang everything there or just hide it.
At this point, my tool collection had grown from a small red box to three boxes and one tool bag. I wanted to make a workbench for them so I could work in the garage where it was dry and warm. Ideally it should be 1.5 m wide.
I also have a dog who loves to chew everything. My little friend also needs a small place where he can hide and stay warm. The entire lower left part of the rack was assigned to him.

What you need for a wooden shelving unit

After I made the drawing, I needed to calculate how much lumber I would need.
I counted:
  • 8 boards 5 x 10 x 500 cm.
  • 23 boards 5 x 10 x 300 cm.
  • 6 sheets of plywood 1.2 x 2.4 m.
  • Screws.

Let's start making the rack

A couple of months ago I leveled the walls because the previous owners did a good job of making them look terrible. After puttying and painting, they began to look pretty good. When I started working, I realized that I hadn't thought through everything enough about where or how I wanted things to be placed. I had good thoughts, but overall I was poorly prepared. The plan was to secure the shelving beams to support beams in the wall. In general, I did not know how to easily determine their location. Luckily one of my neighbors had a special electronic device, which he shared with me for one day. First, we screwed three 500 cm beams: one under the ceiling, another a meter from the floor and the third at the very bottom. After that, we took 300 cm of boards and cut them to the height of the ceiling. We cut them at one time so that they would definitely come out the same length.

Making the outer frame

After securing the inner frame, we began making the outer frame. Since its structure was the same, we used the inner one as a template.
Once the outer frame was complete, we pulled it out to find that the ceiling was sagging a bit and was resting against it. Using a hammer, the frame stood on Right place, where we secured it to the ceiling. Next, the lower part was installed using a level so that the racks stood vertically.

Fastening the shelves

After the frame was level and vertical, we secured it securely in the ceiling, floor and in the middle.
Now it remains the hard part work - bringing my project into reality. I had to give up 30 cm of the shelf, since when attaching the beams, at least 10 cm of height is lost for each.
After installing the shelf brackets, notches were made in the boards near the walls so that the plywood would fit snugly and nothing could fall behind the shelf.

Addition

Now that everything was assembled, I didn't want to spend any more money and didn't buy the doors I originally planned to install. The idea is that you can install doors with horizontal fastening on beams. And when the garage is open, nosy neighbors will not see my collection of things.

The main purpose of a garage is to store cars. However, this does not prevent car owners from using it for other purposes: storing conservation equipment, tools, household appliances, unnecessary things, car parts. Over time, mountains of various household supplies accumulate in the room. The garage is slowly turning into a chaotic dump, and there is less and less space. This is a sign - it’s time to properly organize the space by installing shelves in the garage. They will allow you to rationally place things, save useful space, and improve the interior of the room.

Garage with convenient system storage when everything is in its place

Making garage shelving with your own hands is quite simple. You need to prepare tools, buy some materials, and free yourself a few hours from work. In this article we will look at detailed instructions, some tips and recommendations for arranging such a structure.

Shelves with storage shelves

Permissible loads on homemade shelves in the garage

Before planning shelves for a garage space, you need to determine more convenient way their fastenings. Today, the two most popular methods are welded and bolted. Welded technology usually used for metal structures, bolted for wooden structures. Both technologies work well. Such garage shelves are easy to use and can withstand heavy loads. However, they have some disadvantages.

One of the options for shelving with a frame made of profile pipe and plywood shelves

Welded shelves are non-removable. If the layout of the garage or its purpose changes, simply disassembling the product will not work. Transporting welded shelves is also inconvenient. Their weight can exceed one hundred kilograms. The main advantage of this design is its reliability. Welding seams firmly fix the elements together. It is not at all easy to achieve their destruction.

It is better to connect a wooden garage rack using nails rather than self-tapping screws, so they are less likely to come loose

Bolted racks are less stable. They cannot provide sufficient rigidity. For stability, the structure must be additionally secured to the wall. However, this method of fastening has a significant advantage – mobility. The shelves can be disassembled, assembled, and made into hanging shelves various sizes. It is impossible to give a definite answer to the question of which technology is better. Each person will have their own parameters that are important.

Deciding on the design

Scheme of a simple garage shelving

Making your own garage shelving is quite easy. The most important thing is to clearly define own desires, needs, plan the design, type of construction in advance. Anyone can do such tasks, especially if they have a great desire to do something with their own hands.

Drawing of a rack made of pipes with wooden shelves

The design of the racks has three elements: vertical posts, shelves, crossbars. In some cases, transverse tightening is used. They are not required. They are needed only to increase the rigidity of the frame. To determine the exact design option for the future rack, follow these recommendations.

  • The depth and height of the shelves are arbitrary. These parameters are selected only based on the purpose of the niche. Each shelf can be designed to store a specific type of item. It is better to decide all this in advance;
  • The distance between the vertical posts must be selected based on the rigidity of the material. For very heavy accessories, the distance should be about 1.5 meters. For rack long length you need to prepare intermediate vertical posts. They will make the system more resilient;
  • The lower shelves should be at some distance from the floor. Approximately 50-70 cm. Heavy objects should be stored on them. The optimal height of the remaining shelves will be 37 cm. This is the most rational height, often used in the manufacture of any furniture structure.

Drawing metal stand for garage

Decide on design features always easy. Garage owners simply take into account the dimensions and features of the things that will be stored in the structure.

Option for a small garage with a workbench

It is a little more difficult to choose a product design. The garage is intended for practical purposes. However, this does not mean that its interior should be boring and ugly. You can easily create an attractive interior in your garage for little money. In particular, you can decorate the design of the shelving regular paint. Today there are paints designed for any material. The color for painting should match the overall color scheme premises. Colored plastic boxes for storing accessories and tools will become a kind of decoration. They are inexpensive and allow you to create perfect order.

Choosing material

Durable metal shelves to the garage

DIY wooden shelves in the garage

The choice of base material plays a huge role in the design, stability of the frame, and practicality of operation of the structure. The rack can be made from different raw materials, which have their own advantages and disadvantages. Let's look at the main types of materials and their features in the table.

Material Advantages and disadvantages
Metal Many car owners prefer metal for its durability. This material is durable and can withstand heavy loads. It can only have a negative impact high humidity. In normal climate metal constructions will last almost forever. Another advantage of such raw materials is ease of care. The products will need to be periodically simply wiped with a cloth to maintain cleanliness. The main disadvantage of metal is its high price. However, many people have unnecessary pieces of metal at their dachas or with friends. Docked metal elements usually with the help welding machine. It is not recommended to use it without proper experience.
Tree Wood is a noble, useful raw material. It makes excellent hanging shelves, racks, and storage systems. Wood has a very beneficial effect on the human respiratory system, has an attractive appearance, and is easy to process. When making storage systems, you can use oak, pine, and birch. The frame should be secured only with metal bolts. Wood is relatively inexpensive. It can be purchased at any construction hypermarket. The downside of this option is that it is difficult to care for. The tree gets dirty, can darken, and rot. It should be constantly looked after. This is not always convenient. To reduce such negative consequences It is recommended to use special impregnations.
Plastic A good option for storing various small items and light-weight accessories. Plastic began to be used for making shelves relatively recently. It can withstand no more than 75 kg. This is worth considering! The advantage of plastic is its light weight, mobility, ease of care, and low price. The downside is fragility. It is easy to damage and beat. Plastic is not suitable for storing metal tools.
Combination of two materials For example, wood and metal. This is an excellent option for creating a multifunctional storage system. This way you can save money, diversify the design of your garage, and simplify the process of manufacturing the structure. You can combine almost any type of raw material.

Collapsible racks have an aesthetic appearance and are convenient for installation and dismantling

Possibility of developing a unique design. For many car owners, a garage is a real pride. I don’t want to put ugly furniture in it. Standard shelves are also not very attractive. In this case, you can take on the work yourself by inventing unique design. Ideas for implementation can be found on the Internet. But it’s better to give free rein to your own imagination.

The idea of arranging a garage from the inside with your own hands

Making hanging shelves and racks on your own is not as difficult as it seems. Any man with at least minimal experience working with tools will be able to do this task.

The manufacturing process will not take much time. Lack of free time is the main reason why car owners buy garage furniture in a store. However, manufacturing a storage system does not require a huge amount of time. It’s enough to set aside a few hours and call a friend for help.

Homemade shelves and racks for the needs of the garage owner

Shelves can be made according to your personal plan. Only the car owner himself knows what size, depth, height he needs the shelves. Find perfect option It's almost impossible to find in a store. Everything is standard in hypermarkets. It’s better to put in a little effort, spend time, but create the most practical thing possible.

Small financial costs. Warehouse furniture is quite expensive. Even the most simple models will cost a large sum. Self-productionThe best decision in order to save money. Many of the necessary spare parts can be found on your farm.

Required Tools

Necessary tools for making shelves

To ensure that the process of making shelves takes a minimum of time, you should prepare the tools in advance. You don't need much: a set wrenches, pliers, hacksaws for wood, metal, hammer, screwdriver, hammer drill, jigsaw, grinder. Almost any good owner has all of the listed items. The selection of basic materials will depend solely on the choice of each individual. It could be plywood metal pipes, bars, chipboard, plastic, much more.

Popular options for shelves for storing tools in the garage

Manufacturing process: step-by-step instructions

  1. Preparing the work site. Making a rack is a dusty job. Need a lot of space. To do this, it is better to remove the car from the garage. Tools and expensive items should be covered with film. Next, you need to prepare the tools and put them nearby. It is advisable to enlist the help of a friend. Together, the work will be completed as quickly as possible.
  2. Preparing a plan. For ease of work, it is better to draw a plan of the rack in advance on a simple piece of paper. You should also note the measurements of each shelf there. When preparing a plan, you need to take into account the specific things that will be stored on the shelves. Don't have to do it standard design. Several different elements can be combined in one system.

    Holders and mesh shelves

    Installing mesh shelves on the side wall of the garage is a quick option for light items

  3. Purchase of basic raw materials. It can be wood, metal, plastic. When choosing, you should take into account the characteristics of the material, its maximum load, and practicality. When purchasing, you should not save money by choosing low-quality raw materials. It will not last long and will bring a lot of problems during operation.
  4. Cutting frame elements. The main elements can be made from wooden block, steel angle, ordinary pipe. Racks, amplifiers, crossbars are cut using a jigsaw or circular saw.

    We start making the rack from the base

  5. Applying markings to racks. Vertical elements needs to be marked. This will help in further installation crossbars

    Making grooves for shelves using a router

  6. Drilling holes. Using a drill, make neat holes on the markings. This is typical when using bolted fasteners. When choosing a welded frame, all elements are joined with seams. Without proper experience, the seams may turn out unsightly. It is also important to follow safety precautions when working with welding. You should read more about this in the instructions for the welding machine.

    We install the shelf in the grooves and additionally fasten it with self-tapping screws

  7. Making the shelves themselves. For them, plywood, boards, and chipboard are usually chosen. It is important to follow the measurements exactly.
  8. Assembling the frame, fixing the shelves on the frame. The frame is assembled gradually: first the side posts, then the crossbars, then the amplifiers. Only then the shelves. They are fastened with bolts and self-tapping screws. The fastening must be strong.

    Installing the rack on the base

  9. Making it attractive appearance. The finished rack can be painted, decorated with designer forging, or covered with film. The choice of designer accessories is purely individual. At the same time, you just need to remember about practicality.

Organizing a workspace and an ergonomic storage system in a garage allows you not only to effectively use the available space, but also to ensure comfort and order during car repairs or maintenance.

With the help of prefabricated garage racks, it is possible to correctly arrange all the necessary tools, auto parts, components and accessories.

It is possible to purchase ready-made designs, order a product for certain parameters or make your own shelving from wood or metal. With any option, you should initially decide on the location of the shelves and decide what will be stored on them.

The racks must be arranged in such a way that the car owner has easy access to the shelves. Small parts, fasteners, Consumables should be packaged in boxes and cartons.

How to make shelving in a garage

Advantage handmade shelves and racks is the ability to carry out the design in accordance with your own financial capabilities, exact dimensions, and arrangement of tiers.

You should decide on the material from which the sections and shelves will be made, the type of fastening elements, the method of assembly and fixation.

Selection of materials

The frame for the racks must be made of durable material. The best option are steel or aluminum. It is better to make shelves from a solid sheet of machined metal or wood.

Main details of the rack:

  • racks. The material is profiled pipe, reinforced metallic profile or corner;
  • shelves. Can be made from sheet steel, thick-walled aluminum, boards, chipboard or plywood.

Self-tapping screws or bolts are a reliable option for attaching shelves to racks. To make a rack you need a tape measure, a level, a screwdriver, a hacksaw and a metal cutting machine (grinder). After assembling the frame and installing the shelves, you need to check the reliability of all fasteners.

The metal sheet must be galvanized at the factory or painted with polymer-containing paint. As a result, a sealed barrier is formed that protects the alloy from moisture and corrosive processes.

During production wooden rack All parts should be treated with antiseptics, which will protect the wood from the formation mold fungus, exposure to chemical reagents in the event of a leak.

Types of structures

Garage storage sections are classified into floor-mounted and wall-mounted. Hanging shelves must be securely fastened to the structure.

Floor racks are divided into:

  • stationary. The sections are installed on the floor. The supports are fixed with dowels;
  • mobile (mobile). The racks of the shelving units are equipped with wheels. The advantage of this option is the ability to move if necessary (for example, during car maintenance or repair). Among the disadvantages, it should be noted the instability of the structure;
  • wall The rack is mounted close to the wall without the possibility of free movement. The racks are attached to the ceiling and floor.

Also, structures can be closed, equipped with standard hinged doors or have a sliding mechanism.

Features of designing racks with your own hands

Before starting work, it is advisable to take measurements and prepare a sketch of the future structure on which the dimensions will be marked. Photos of garage shelving to prepare a drawing can be found in sufficient quantities on thematic forums or other Internet resources.

The rack should not be made in the form of a bulky structure. Compact sizes save space. It is optimal if the width of the shelves does not exceed 1.5-2 m.

The depth of each tier can be in the range from 20 to 40 cm. The height of each row can be from 20 to 100 cm, depending on its purpose.

Benefits of garage shelving

Wooden and galvanized or painted metal garage shelving has the following advantages:

  • strength;
  • durability;
  • low cost;
  • light weight;
  • ability to withstand high loads(metal shelves can withstand 300 kg, wooden shelves - up to 120 kg);
  • availability of materials;
  • possibility of height adjustment of tiers;
  • ease of manufacture;
  • resistance to corrosion and chemicals;
  • resistance to temperature and humidity changes;
  • ease of assembly and repair;
  • easy care.

When making a garage rack with your own hands, you need to take into account the nuances of storing garage accessories.

For heavy and bulky items, reinforced shelves with a material thickness of at least 50 mm should be constructed. Optimal material metal will be used for storing tires, batteries, auto parts, and hardware.

Tiers for tires should be positioned in such a way as to place wheels with rims in a vertical position, and tires without rims in a horizontal position.

An alternative option for storing tires would be a sturdy beam instead of a lower tier or a rod mounted to the ceiling.

Photos of garage shelving

Most people own their own car garage. Whether it is newly built or an existing one is purchased, the new owner will put it in order, allowing the garage to be used practically in the future. After all, every owner (except for the car) wants to have in the garage basic equipment for minor repairs around the house, apartment, and tools for simple preventative maintenance of the car. An article about these and other points will tell you about DIY projects for a modern garage, relying on practical knowledge professionals.
In practice, there are often cases when a person purchases a car along with a garage, or builds the latter himself. The garage is finished, you don’t have to worry about the safety of the car. But the room cannot be empty. What is it like for a motorist to have his own garage with a car, and not have a simple workbench with basic tools, hanging racks, or a place to store a jack with a set of winter or summer tires? Power tools and elements of screw and threaded fasteners must have their place.

Construction of the garage is completed. I wanted to buy a workbench for work, racks for chaotically scattered tools. But the financial situation forces us to postpone purchases until later. What should I do?
Garage can be used direct purpose– for storing a car while waiting for financial opportunities to furnish the premises, or you can start making a rack or workbench yourself or involve a specialist or a friend. If there Construction Materials like metal, brick, board different diameters, power tools and faithful assistant- Internet - making a tool shelf for the owner will not be difficult.

Tool shelf - a practical homemade product in the garage

It is practical to install a tool rack in a place near the car, since when servicing you do not have to run through the entire garage in search of this or that key. The ideal location of the shelf is above the roof of the car; the width of the board should be chosen such that a small tool box or the same plane or emery can fit freely.

When constructing a shelf, do not forget about the load on the shelf. Since the instrument is heavy, design features shelves need to include metal reinforcements from reinforcement, angle or profiled pipe. Depending on the availability of materials, the thickness of the metal (for reinforcement) should be at least 12 mm. The reinforcement cut into pieces is distributed at a distance of 50 cm from each other ( optimal distance to prevent the board from bending under the influence of metal load).
After preparing all the components, we get to work. We distribute the cut reinforcement evenly along the entire length of the future hanging shelf. We select a drill according to the diameter of the pins and drill the wall about 15 cm deep. After drilling, we hammer the reinforcement into the garage wall and align it in length.
To fix the shelf you will need a corner. The metal is marked and cut into components that will be welded along the edges of the protruding pins. From the wall under the board, a strip of metal is welded and cut along the length of the shelf, holes are drilled in it to fix the board. The last thing is to lay the boards cut to size and fix them with screws or bolts. Having finished everything renovation work, the finished tool shelf can be painted in the desired color.

Garage furniture is not difficult to make. And if a person likes to make things with his own hands, then it will also be interesting. Do you have a lot of tools left, but no more space on the shelf? Then you can think about building a garage shelving unit.
At first glance, it seems bulky and heavy in design. But don’t be upset, because all this is just a mountain of metal, bolted connections with wooden elements, that is, you can do everything yourself.

The shelving unit is the main piece of garage furniture.

Having decided to make a rack, you need to plan in advance the design features, the location of the cabinets, the dimensions that will not interfere with free movement around the garage, as well as the entry of the car.
Typically, one wall is allocated for shelving. The height is determined based on what objects and parts will be stored here. The number and size of shelves and cabinets are determined; the project is first drawn on paper.
The lowest shelves are made wider and higher than the rest and are securely reinforced. A set of winter tires, jacks, fuel cans, and other large items are stored below. The base of the bottom shelf should be made of a thick board or sheet metal to prevent it from breaking under the load of heavy loads.
Yours practical use found shelving built to cover an entire wall from floor to ceiling. The width needs to be determined depending on the parts and the tool that they plan to place in it. Do not forget about the passage between the machine and the rack; it must be free.

For parameters - practical depth - width, up to 60 cm depth per 1 meter width is selected. This opening will fit most power tools, metal, jacks, a car first aid kit, even a spare tire.
Having marked the dimensions of the rack for your garage, you need to take care of reliable structural elements, since it is not being built for one year. For the base of the rack, a corner is suitable, of which you will need a lot. The structure is connected by welding, with fastening to the wall.
The metal corner is cut to the intended dimensions into two groups:

  1. Vertical racks;
  2. Rack crossbars.

Let's place the vertical racks in place of the new shelving along the wall. Using welding, you will first need to connect the elements from the corners, which will be the base for the cabinets and shelves of the rack. The main thing is to ensure that after welding joints the pieces of corners are strictly in a horizontal plane. Next, we move on to welding the entire frame. After graduation welding work, the seams are thoroughly cleaned, then primed, and the entire frame is painted to prevent corrosion and other metallic influences.

The last stage of creating a garage rack yourself is selecting, marking and cutting along the contours of the lines wooden floors designs. We decide on the location of the board - the laying is carried out along the future shelf or across it. Before installing the board in the rack, wooden elements ceilings are treated with special protective compounds from mold, rot, insect pests. After processing, the board can be opened with enamel.
The board is fastened with screws; when screwing, you should pay attention to the tightness of the boards against each other. The finished rack is secured to the wall using large anchors drilled into the wall, or with tacks using a welding machine to the fittings protruding from the same wall of the garage.
For the most comfortable sorting of tools, an oblong small container (previously produced with graphite, solid oil) for storing screwdrivers and testers can be attached to the sides of the rack using bolts or screws.

Workbench - a motorist's workplace

The main element of the garage furniture wall is workplace, a workbench without which it is comfortable independent work not to be. Before starting assembly, we determine how much free space can be allocated under the table. The selected location must have a flat, solid base. After marking, we cut future structural elements along the lines.
The workbench is assembled from a profiled pipe or metal corner. The frame, as in previous homemade products, is practical to assemble using a welding machine, since you do not have to drill holes for a bolted connection.
Average optimal height table - 90 cm, but each owner chooses the desired height, based on personal growth, the way of working at a workbench - some prefer to work while sitting, others are satisfied with the usual environment. The width of the table will be such that a person can easily walk between the car and the workbench.

Having completed the work of assembling the frame, it is recommended to prime and paint the part against corrosion, giving the structure an appearance. The surface is a tabletop, 7.5 cm thick. The base of the surface is multi-layer plywood, 100 mm thick.
If at the stage of installation of a homemade product it is not possible to obtain multi-layer plywood, the tabletop is made by gluing together 7 sheets of ordinary thin plywood, which are glued together wood glue PVA or Moment. After applying a layer of glue, let it sit for 5 minutes, then press the pieces of plywood. After gluing all the sheets, it is recommended to put them under a press for a day.

Advice. In order not to cut each sheet of plywood to size separately, you can first work on gluing all the sheets of plywood, and only then fasten and cut off the excess length of the part.

The working surface of the table top is covered metal sheet, thickness 5-6 mm. First, the sheet is laid on a workbench for preliminary marking, then cut to size using a jigsaw with a metal file or a grinder. Metal is attached working surface to the table using screws screwed into drilled holes to the blackboard.
Having assembled the workbench, as extra space The free space under the tabletop will serve as a tool. You need to weld a few crossbars from a metal corner - a couple of cabinets are ready. Can be varied with practical design cabinets - they can be retractable, as well as with opening doors.

There are many various homemade products. There is no need to rush around the garage looking for a tool or part; everything you need is collected in one place. Practical and convenient.
