Do-it-yourself band sawmill? Why not! Making a sawmill with your own hands Do-it-yourself tire sawmill drawing

For the production of lumber, machines are used for dissolving tree trunks. The bus sawmill with an electric motor represents one of possible options individual production of timber or boards.

The primary processing of timber is often sought to be shifted as much as possible to the zone of its growth. Then the wood waste will serve organic fertilizer for future forest plantings. Rotting on the ground and in the soil, sawdust, branches, bark, and cutting residues will serve as the basis for the intensive growth of young trees. Therefore, a small-sized structure can be used immediately after felling a tree. It can be easily placed in the trunk of a car. Only lumber will be removed from the forest.

In some countries, industry produces trailed band sawmill, which can be attached to a car and taken out to work in the forest.

Sawmills for home use

To make timber and boards with your own hands, several types of devices are used:

  • Frame, installed on a strong foundation. At least three people are involved in servicing. Are different high level power consumption and performance. General form frame type sawmills:

  • Band saws can cut large diameter logs. Some equipment samples are capable of dissolving a tree trunk with a diameter of 3 m. General view of the band sawmill:

  • Disc saws are quite often used in private households for sawing wood. Some samples are capable of processing wood with a diameter of up to 1 m. General view of a disk sawmill (it can be seen that it uses disks installed perpendicular to each other. Cutting is performed in different planes in one pass):

  • Tires as a working tool are tires for electric and chainsaws. With the help of such devices, users alone can turn logs with a diameter of about 60 cm into lumber. The simplest bus sawmill (in this design the saw moves along a guide made from a channel):

At logging enterprises, the most common frame installations. Setting up for the production of a certain format of lumber is quite simple; the required distances are set between the saw blades. It is quite difficult to use such sawmills on a personal basis. The installed power of the drives reaches 30...40 kW.

Tape equipment has been in use relatively recently (about 30 years). Typically, the saw blade thickness ranges from 0.8...1.0 to 2.5...3.0 mm. In practice, automatic machines are used that perform cutting according to a given program. To work, just enter the necessary data and install the workpiece. The auxiliary workers will remove the finished boards and timber from the table.

Some do-it-yourselfers make such machines on their own. They are attracted by the opportunity to create a relatively simple device. They can be used when going into the forest, organizing a wood processing workshop for logging.

Disc sawmills structurally the simplest. A large diameter disc is used, which performs a long saw according to the specified parameters. In practice, double-disc machines are used that cut logs from both sides. This approach allows the use of relatively small disks.

Using a saw bar with an electric or gasoline engine allows you to use them to perform long rip sawing. Some craftsmen make mobile sawmills that can be transported to a construction site or to the forest. You just need to organize the layout of the logs on supports and install auxiliary devices that ensure rectilinear movement working body.

In practice, tires are used with and without fixation in the frame. If you fix the canvas on a rigid frame, it is easier to obtain a processed flat surface. The frame prevents movement to the side, which is often observed when creating simplified devices.

A special frame for installing a chain saw bar increases the rigidity of the structure and ensures a stable position of the blade when performing work:

Attention! Having made a homemade tire sawmill, the master will receive a machine that will allow him to create a small individual production. It will make it possible to produce the necessary products and receive a certain income.

How to make a simple installation

Home master will be able to make a small sawmill for longitudinal sawing logs You need to have skills to work with welding machine, grinder and electric drill.

Device design

Any work begins with a project. At the design stage, you need to decide on the main issues.

  1. What will move? Tool or log? It is easier to install a guide along which you want to move the chain saw. If you specify the movement of a log, then it is necessary to create a powerful foundation for intermediate supports. The log pusher must overcome shear resistance and then maintain movement at a constant speed.
  2. Which tool should I use? Gasoline or electric? If it is planned to manufacture a machine for home use, then you should focus on the electric saw. If it is necessary to create a mobile installation, preference is given to a gasoline saw.
  3. What are the requirements for the quality of boards? If you want to obtain perfectly flat cutting surfaces, then you need to fix the blade in a special frame. For less stringent requirements, you can leave the free end without additional fixation.
  4. How to fix a log? In practice, the material being processed is secured from the ends or sides. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages.

End locking makes it easier to adjust the tree trunk before starting processing. Centering is easy.

The side fastening is more rigid, but requires time to position the log.

Having developed the basic diagram, the master works on the design of individual components. For complex elements, working drawings are developed, details are developed based on them, and the production of components begins.

It's time to move on to the question of how to make a tire sawmill with your own hands.

A variant of a tire sawmill in which the log moves. The tool is stationary during operation:

Step-by-step manufacturing of the installation

A small-sized sawmill will be manufactured. A Husqvarna chainsaw with an engine power of 3 hp will be used for production. To work you will need an aluminum folding ladder. It will be used as a guide to move the tool.

The sawmill is designed for processing logs brought from the forest. The option of using the installation directly in the forest is being considered.

Regular sanitary cleaning is required there. A lot of dead wood needs to be disposed of. The forestry department has been tasked with selectively removing old trees.

Gasoline chain Saw Husqvarna has a standard bar with a working length of 38 cm. This will be used as the main tool in the installation.

Low weight and high power density, as well as a reliable gearbox, are the main criteria by which the tool was selected.

From profile pipes square section 25·25 mm with a 2 mm wall, a support frame is welded. Her inner size is 400·400 mm.

The machine will be able to cut logs with a diameter of up to 400 mm. The corners of the frame are reinforced with gussets made of 4 mm thick strip. The corners are made of spring steel. Additionally, guides made of 30×30 mm profile pipes are welded to the frame.

Holes are drilled on the guides. M8 nuts are welded to them. The presence of such fasteners will allow you to fix the frame at a given height.

Special racks are equipped with clamps. They will hold the chain saw bar. The racks themselves fit tightly along the guides.

An example of installing a tire inside the rack jaws. The front and back are fixed on both sides.

You can secure the canvas in the jaws using bolts. For ease of operation, nuts of increased length are used. It will be easier to unscrew and tighten them for quick installation and dismantling of the saw blade.

Required condition for subsequent quality work installation is the perpendicularity of the jaws to the guide of the rack. Therefore, after manufacturing, the tire is installed in clamps and the quality of welding work is checked.

To prevent chain jamming, 4 mm thick plates are welded inside. The length of the plates themselves is 40 mm. The chain and tooth elements will fit freely between the inner plate and the clamping bolts.

The racks are installed so that the jaws are located below the elastic corners. This installation was thought out at the design stage of the device.

The parallelism between the racks is checked after they are installed in the guides. At this stage of assembly, the location of the canvas clamps relative to the frame must be controlled.

A drawing of the frame installation is presented, showing the main dimensions of the structure:

To allow the frame to move freely along the guides, furniture casters. They are mounted in such a way that the moving object is rigidly oriented in the vertical and horizontal planes.

Simple furniture casters with an internal bearing will move along the guides without displacement.

The aluminum ladder will be used as a guide support for making the sawmill. You can use one section, but if necessary, all three are connected. Then the working length of the formed lumber can reach 9 m.

Shows how to install the frame on the stairs. It is important to ensure that the side rollers are pressed. Then the frame will move without displacement.

The top and side rollers are tightly pressed against the aluminum guide. If necessary, the elastic corners can be shifted in one direction or another.

For longitudinal sawing, the chain of the tool must be changed. For transverse, a tooth with an inclination of 30⁰ and a pitch of 0.325” is used. For longitudinal – the tilt angle is 10 ⁰ and the step is 3/8 “.

The drive sprocket is being replaced. The replacement takes about two minutes.

Two different circuits are shown. Their differences are shown:

In order to be able to saw large diameter logs instead of a standard bar, an analogue from the “Partner” chain saw is used. The length is 600 mm.

First, a stand is installed near the saw.

Then the second rack is installed, located at the free end of the bus.

The frame is installed on top. Check the free movement along the guides. Only after making sure that the movement occurs without unnecessary effort, the jaws are fixed.

Attention! When tightening the jaws, do not use unnecessary force. The chain may become jammed.

The logs have different diameter in height. The butt has a greater meaning. Further decreases.

To make parallel movement along the axis of the barrel, you need to place pads under the guide.

The log is mounted on trestles. A center search is in progress. Draw a horizontal line with a pencil.

You need to draw a vertical line. The center of the log is determined. Relative to it, other measurements and calculations will be performed.

A line is drawn along which the first cut will be made in the future.

Special backing boards are attached to the steps of the stairs. Metal clamps are used, they impart rigidity to the structure.

Self-tapping screws will be screwed into the log; they will create a strong connection between the log and the ladder.

For smaller diameters it is necessary to lay additional planks. They help produce a cut parallel to the axis of the log.

The position of the frame relative to the posts is set. Now the sawing will be performed with the specified plate thickness.

The machine is ready for use. All that remains is to start the engine and start cutting.

The cut to the specified length is completed. You can see the place where the cut was made.

All that remains is to cut off the plate. If necessary, additional sections are installed and the log will be sawn along its entire length.

View of the surface on which the chain saw blade moved. The whole structure was quite rigid. Therefore, a smooth, flat surface on the cut is obtained.

If it is necessary to obtain a long cut, the ladder links must be rigidly connected to each other. The usual three-section design will allow you to cut logs up to 9 m long.

You can start making lumber from existing logs. Even tree trunks that are uneven in different planes can be used for sawing. The timber and boards will have acceptable parameters.

The guide ladder is installed on a log. Sawing to the specified dimensions began.

It can be seen that the guide is located outside the log. The cutting and subsequent movement of the tire inside the wood will be carried out parallel to the surface of the stairs.

Since the length of the guide is greater than that of the log, the tool descends strictly along the stairs. The plane will be close to an ideal surface.

Cutting subsequent boards will be easier. There is a ready-made plane, relative to which the frame with the saw bar is oriented.

Now there is no need to install additional pads on one of the sides. Setup is much easier.

As a result of the work of the sawmill, boards are obtained that can be used in construction or for the manufacture of solid wood furniture.

A performance check showed that minor modifications and the production of guide devices made it possible to create a convenient machine for sawing logs.

According to the owner's review, this sawmill copes well with its tasks. In 6…8 hours, one user can prepare up to three cubic meters of lumber from existing logs. For a small-sized and budget instrument, the figure is quite decent. According to the manufacturer, the cost of creating the device was about 3 thousand rubles in 2017 prices.

Ready installation can be transported off-site. Already at the site of deforestation, engage in the production of boards and timber.

Conclusion

  1. Using an electric or gasoline chainsaw, you can make attachments that turn the tool into a sawmill.
  2. Small machine can be adapted for work in the workshop, as well as on the road.

A homemade and mobile tire sawmill allows you to saw logs with a diameter of 35 cm in diameter into boards and beams, independently for your household needs. The simplicity of the design and mobility of a chain sawmill assembled with your own hands in the image of “PORTAMILL” will solve the problem of expensive lumber, because cutting logs into boards and beams yourself is much more profitable. To make a mobile sawmill you will need a professional pipe 40 x 20 x 2 mm in the amount of 2 pieces, each 6 meters long, for the guide ladder. The pusher handle is made of professional pipe with a section of 30 x 30 and the length is 1500 mm. The trolley on which the rollers and fastening of the saw lifting mechanism and the pusher itself are installed is welded from a profile and finished sheet metal 3 mm thick. The lift is made of a professional pipe 40 x 40 mm long 700 mm and an additional 450 mm for fixing the pusher from a pipe 30 x 30 mm, M-18 pin 700 mm long, all other materials, angle, pipe, etc., in general, what was at hand - that's what went into effect)

The three upper rollers for the trolley were ordered from a turner; the rollers securing the trolley in the lower part are bearings with M-10 bolts.

The sawmill is designed for household needs housework. It is recommended to take a chainsaw with an engine capacity of at least 50 cm³; I have a “Stihl 660” chain installed at an angle of 10°. The length of the guide ladder is 4700 mm.

The main advantages of a homemade sawmill are, of course, mobility, namely the guide ladder can be easily placed on the trunk passenger car, the trolley with a lifting mechanism is located in the trunk, that is, such a sawmill is easy to transport over long distances and saw wood directly in a designated plot (forest), having previously cleared and leveled the area for installing a guide ladder. In second place is naturally ease of use, because there is no need to lift the log as on standard Logosol sawmills and it is convenient to adjust the thickness of the board. The line has not yet been installed because there was not enough time.

The original sawmill was found on the Internet (Portamill chain sawmill). I assembled it without drawings from the picture (by eye) at the location and made my own adjustments as I saw fit. The cost of a sawmill (without a chain saw) is about 5 thousand rubles

Residents of suburban areas are often faced with the need to use various woodworking devices that are used for domestic purposes in personal plot. Today on the market of hand-held and stationary construction tools there is wide choose devices for wood processing, but they are quite expensive. The most popular of them are sawmills. In this article we will talk about how to make a tire sawmill.

Purpose of the bus sawmill

Any construction works or maintenance of buildings is accompanied by enormous financial costs associated with wood processing, for example, sawing timber, preparing boards, manufacturing rafters, beams or furniture.

The main task of a homemade tire sawmill is high-quality longitudinal cutting of logs of any type of wood to obtain unedged and edged boards, veneer, slats, carriages, beams and thin-gauge cuts. The tire sawmill is designed for the production of small batches of lumber, processing of non-format blanks for the production of special-sized lumber.

The petrol tire sawmill does not require large area and can be easily mounted on limited space plot of land. There are stationary devices that operate from the electrical network, and autonomous ones that operate on gasoline. The latter option is very convenient for going into the forest and harvesting the necessary lumber on site.

The maximum length of the workpiece that can be processed on a tire sawmill with your own hands reaches seven meters. In this case, the cross-section of the workpiece does not exceed 40 cm.

The average cutting speed for a board length of 3 m from a pine log with a diameter of 25 cm will be approximately 7 minutes on a homemade tire sawmill.

Types of tire sawmills

You can create two types of tire machines yourself:

  • with movement of the working unit relative to the workpieces being processed
  • with a longitudinal method of feeding logs.

It is impossible to say unequivocally that some sawmills are worse and some are better, because both types of sawmills have their pros and cons. For example, when moving a working unit along a workpiece, a person can control the applied forces, guaranteeing a smoother move and cutting wood on high speed. And if the workpiece is fed towards the sawing mechanism, control of the sawing becomes significantly more difficult. Lowest magnification The pushing force of the wood causes a sharp increase in the load on the bar and chain. As a result, the chain may jam or the motor may overheat. However, this version of the sawmill does not have additional wires moving behind the main unit.

Of course, the final choice of device type depends on the individual needs of each person. However, regardless of the chosen type of sawmill, it is worth paying special attention to creating a high-quality base that ensures vibration reduction. Metal channels or rails are better basis, on which the tire sawmill will stand. Drawings of such devices are available in large quantities on the Internet. You just need to decide on the type of machine and you can start creating.

Before starting the assembly process, you should purchase all the necessary materials and tools. In order to make a bus sawmill, the creation video of which is presented below, you will need:

  • accurate schematic drawing
  • metal channel or rail
  • pipes of various diameters
  • electric motor
  • tire and drive sprocket from a chainsaw
  • welding machine and electrodes
  • electric grinder and drill
  • hammer, tape measure and chalk.

To make a tire sawmill, you can use the components of a regular chainsaw. The working part includes a tire, an electric power unit and a clutch system, which are located in a separate housing.

First of all, you need to create a frame in the shape of a rectangle. There is a tire in the center of the base. Taking into account the fact that the frame will be subjected to high loads, it must be securely fastened on both sides. The drive sprocket often has a hole that is designed to mount elements to a metal axle made of a high-strength alloy. The axle makes it possible to avoid moving the tire in a horizontal plane.

To prevent vertical displacement, it is necessary to attach two bearings as tightly as possible to the tire on the axle on both sides. Next, you need to put on a sleeve that clamps the bearings, after which the axle should be welded to one side of the frame.

On the opposite side will be placed Electrical engine and a chain tension control system. You don’t even need to invent anything here, just use factory spare parts for the chainsaw. The main drum is mounted on the shaft of the electric power unit and secured with a longitudinal key.

The final stage of assembly can be called centering and reliable fixation in the body. Special attention When doing DIY work, you need to pay attention to installing the motor, which will vibrate strongly during sawing. For this reason, it is necessary to ensure a rigid frame.

Now you know how to make a tire sawmill with your own hands. This unit ensures high-quality sawing of wood. The main characteristics of the bus sawmill: accuracy, compactness, low price, simple design, reliability, light weight, ergonomics during operation, ease of transportation.

The chain sawmill is an indispensable assistant for any builder. Not a single serious repair can be done without it. This tool is especially relevant for those who live in the private sector and often face construction and repair problems.

What is a chain sawmill?

The principle of operation of a chain sawmill is to a certain extent reminiscent of a band saw: the log being cut is firmly fixed, while the cutting is carried out by the saw. The saw is attached to a moving carriage. The only difference between chain and band sawmills is that this option Only a chain saw is used, not a band saw.

The main disadvantage of a chain sawmill is its lower productivity and efficiency compared to band machines. Despite such disadvantages, people use such machines precisely because of their high cost and convenience, but real craftsmen create chain sawmills with their own hands. Some people want to save money, while others simply want to make a machine that fully satisfies all the individual wishes of the master.

DIY chain sawmill

What do you need to create a chain sawmill with your own hands? First, you should look at the drawings of a chain sawmill on the Internet. The drawings vary, but any such sawmill consists of a chainsaw, a steel frame and rail guides.

In order to create a chain sawmill, you need to firmly attach a metal frame to the saw bar. The gap between the chain and the frame will be equal to the thickness of the resulting lumber. For this reason, you need to decide in advance what kind of lumber you need. By the way, if you make the distance between the chain and the frame larger, you can create not only boards, but also beams.

An excellent frame will be made from two steel channels, 8 meters long and 0.14 meters high. In addition, you can use rails or metal corners. You need blanks of a perfectly straight shape. Along the entire length of the channels you need to make holes with a diameter of 14-16 millimeters at a distance of up to 1.5 meters.

According to the number of these holes, you need to make from segments water pipe special couplers. All parts are attached using threaded rods or bolts.

After this, you need to assemble all the components of the chain sawmill into a single device and install it on racks. The number of racks depends on the dimensions of the frame. The very last posts should be no more than 1 meter from the end of the rails.

To give greater rigidity, you need to fix the braces.

After this, the movable trolley is mounted. It can be created from a steel plate with a thickness of 4 to 6 millimeters and a length of approximately 0.6 meters. The size of the trolley depends on the dimensions of the electric motor.

Next, you can begin selecting gaskets and clamping plates for the trolley. The elements must ensure free movement of the mechanism. At the same time, the gap should be minimal. The gaskets should be tightened using bolts.

It is imperative to eliminate the transverse play by installing a thrust angle to the base of the trolley. The trolley can be placed on bearings or rollers. Please note that you should use new bearings; used ones are definitely not suitable.

The chain needs to be tensioned as much as possible. The steering wheel is mounted on one of the side sprocket bushings located along the perimeter of the guides.

In order to create a fixing device for a log, you need to take pipes with a diameter of 3 - 4 centimeters, insert movable rods into them, which fit into the stopper at the required height with an M8 screw.

Pressing parts, the length of which is at least 1.5 cm, as well as cam clamps, are attached to the rods on top.

After this, you can install an electric motor and a saw, the diameter of which is 1 meter. Choosing a chainsaw for home sawmill is also not an unimportant process. The chainsaw must have high power and high efficiency indicators. In addition, its chain must be well sharpened. Making a chain sawmill with your own hands is not difficult. But remember that in addition to creating the device, it is important to guarantee safe operation.

This is how “home” chain sawmills are created. A video of the manufacturing process of such a sawmill is presented below.

Safety at work

Having high performance, sawmills are sources of increased industrial injuries. Many people have heard horror stories about “he turned his head away, but his finger was no longer on his hand.” There are many similar stories and they are all real.

Most reliable method reducing the number of injuries and accidents when using such equipment - scrupulous compliance with all safety regulations. Before starting work, you need to familiarize yourself in detail with the operating principles and operating instructions of such a device, as well as with the fire safety rules.

The highest level of safety is achieved when the sawmill is equipped with a reverse feed system due to its design.

Chain sawmills, video

Not everyone can afford the purchase of a ready-made sawmill, especially since it will only pay off with constant use (read commercial use). Is it possible to make a sawmill with your own hands? What difficulties will a do-it-yourselfer face if he decides to cut raw logs into industrial wood on his own?

Homemade band sawmill

Let’s make a reservation right away – making a band sawmill yourself is very difficult. It's not so much about the components, extensive turning and welding work, the need to sharpen and set the saw in a special way, but in the well-functioning performance of the entire complex.

It is necessary to ensure loading and stability of movement of up to 300 kg of one log, adjustment of cutting thickness, and most importantly, safety precautions. But if the availability of free wood wins, we make a band sawmill with our own hands.

Let us explain the principle of tape cutting with an example: take two spools of thread, stretch a threaded thin tape between them. By forcibly rotating the belt, we cut the log, the distance between the belts is maximum size timber. Band saws are convenient for cutting boards.

We start with choosing a production area or premises - at least 3x6 m, verified. Second in importance - metal wheels trolleys and band saw, you need to find it or buy it. Order the frame of the belt mechanism with wheels, or it is better to buy a ready-made one. Self-production requires skills and a lot of high-precision tooling.

View 2: 1 - pulley for starting the engine (if a three-phase motor is connected to a single-phase network); 2 - engine; 3 - pulley; 4 - shaft; 5 — housing with bearing; 6 - base; 7 - flywheel; 8 - finger; 9 — connecting rod; 10 - saw; 11 — M14x2 screw; 12 — roller; 13 — guide angle; 14 - stand; 15 — steering wheel; 16 — bushing; 17 — asterisk; 18 — nut M14x2; 19 — lock nut; 20 is an asterisk.

We install guides - any strong, flat metal: I-beam, channel, corner, under them, after 0.5 m, supports or anchors for stability. The distance between the guides is the diameter of the big log with a margin of about 0.7 m. Maintaining the geometry, we weld everything together. We attach wheels, a belt mechanism frame, and an electric motor through a pulley to the cart.

Consider a mechanism for changing the horizontal movement of the saw relative to the log. Moving the cart relative to the fixed log, we cut off a horizontal layer of wood - we make boards.

Disc sawmills have received the greatest handicraft use due to their versatility and ease of manufacture. We will make a circular sawmill with our own hands. The most important thing is that we will need a circular saw - a disc larger than 500 mm (the larger the better). The propulsion device is usually an electric motor through a pulley that increases the speed.

1 - main sleeper ( steel pipe 80x80x3, 5 pcs); 2 - lining ( steel sheet, 40x10x1.22 pcs.); 3 — guide blade (steel channel No. 8, L1750, 4 pcs.); 4 - trolley (telpher carriage); 5 — bottom bracket (steel channel No. 18, 2 pcs); 6 - plate - base (stylish sheet s5); 7 — M20 bolt) (4 pcs.); 8 — Grover washer (4 pcs.); 9 — nut M20 (4 pcs.); 10 — three-phase asynchronous electric motor (220 V, 5 kW, 930 rpm); 11 — upper bracket (steel angle 45×45); 12 - canvas circular saw; 13 — protective casing (steel sheet s2); 14 — steel pin (8 pcs.); 15 — circular saw hub (St5); 16 — thrust handle (water and gas pipe 3/4″); 17 — cut-off slab; 18 — thrust gusset (steel sheet s5); 19 — comb (steel angle 45×45, L400); 20 - log; 21 — M30 bolt; 22- split washer; 23 — retaining washer (steel sheet sЗ); 24 — thrust crossbar (steel angle 45×45); 25 — shortened sleeper (steel pipe 80x40x3, 6 pcs.); 26 — overlay for lengthening the blade (steel sheet 250x180x10, 2 pcs.).

A welded frame is prepared, a metal (less often wooden) plate with a slot for the disk is placed on the frame. The gaps between the disk and the plate are minimal. The saw shaft is attached to the plate from below on bearings and a pulley. The electric motor pulley and the saw are connected by belts (reinsurance when the saw jams) - a homemade circular sawmill can work!

one of the options for a homemade circular sawmill

To tension the belt, use the weight of the engine with the addition of weights. Make the supporting platform of the electric motor movable coaxially with the saw shaft, deflecting under weight in the opposite direction. The wheel of a working tractor with a drive to a saw pulley without belts is often used as a propulsion device.

The principles of cutting are the same as in band cutting - we feed the log to the cutting disc. After a disc cut, the surface of the lumber is more High Quality due to processing speed. Disc sawmills come in vertical and horizontal types - they are easier to use in mobile installations.

Tire sawmill

We need to start by understanding what and how much we will cut. If you need to cut 100 - 200 rafters for a house being built from free logs, then 400 boards, it is better to use a hand-held professional chainsaw. Let's do it homemade sawmill from a chainsaw, the method is inexpensive, simple and effective.

drawing the simplest sawmill from a chainsaw (download full drawing)

You will need any smooth metallic profile, welding and grinder. We start with the maximum length of the log - practically about 4 m. For this length you need to find a channel or I-beam, you can weld it from pieces with reinforcement - the main thing is that the resulting profile is even. We are starting to make our autonomous sawmill based on a chainsaw.

The design is a powerful profile at a working height - above the waist, along which a fixed chainsaw moves in a cart.

The height is determined by ergonomics; a prolonged knee-elbow position is not useful. A log is placed parallel to the main profile on a support frame, a running chainsaw moves along the log and makes the necessary trimming.

A few more details about the features. Main element– main profile, providing geometrically correct sizes lumber, must be sufficiently strong and rigid, if the channel is at least 200. The profile rests on 3 or more supports connected to the support frame on which the log rests.

If you decide to make a chain sawmill with your own hands, be sure to look at the LOGOSOL sawmills. Drawings and documentation can be downloaded from the website and used as the basis for your homemade product.

The main errors when sawing are formed when the cart with the chainsaw oscillates, so the movement of the cart along the profile - at least four rigidly pressed metal wheels, must be provided manual drive. The simplest is a well crank with a drive wheel along the main profile.

To install a heavy log, slopes are usually installed along which it is convenient to push the log successively from side to side onto the support frame, wedging it on the frame.

The most difficult thing is the adjustment mechanism for the thickness of the product. The simplest way– installation along the edges of the movable vertical plane supporting frame screw or any rigid fixation jacks. We adjust the jacks - we adjust the thickness of the product. An example of the construction of a mobile tire sawmill based on a chainsaw can be seen in the photo.

Cutting wood can be done by one person: holding the chainsaw handle and adjusting the gas, we feed with the other hand.

Conclusion

A few thoughts on the feasibility of making a sawmill. Tested by time and practice - self-production makes sense when free materials. If you calculate the labor costs and materials, and the possible benefits, you will understand for yourself. The worst thing is when self-production– few people pay attention to safety precautions. This moment definitely needs to be thought through! Trouble-free operation and high-quality wood.
