Homemade world - snow scraper on wheels. What inventions of shovels and scrapers for snow removal do we see on our streets? DIY wooden snow scraper

In winter, it is important to remove snow immediately while it is still loose. Scattering it with a shovel is unproductive, and it is also impossible to capture a lot of snow at one time. Based on this, many people are thinking about purchasing a scraper. However, in the store these devices are presented in only one size. They may be too big for some and too small for others. If you make your own snow scraper, you can create a device that fits the size.

The structure of snow varies. The tool used should also be different. For example, loose snow requires a large scraper so that you can grab as much snow as possible. For hard snow, you need a more durable tool that can roll on the surface. Wet snow will slide off easier from plastic or metal surface. In addition to scrapers or scrapers, dumps and pushers can also be used.

As a rule, when a scraper is made by hand, it is quite bulky and heavy. There are two ways to solve this problem:

  • attach wheels to the sheet itself;
  • attach them to the handle.

In the first case, you will need two small wheels. Their diameter will depend on the surface from which the snow is being cleared. The smoother the surface, the smaller the wheels you can use. They can also be attached in different ways:

  • each wheel separately;
  • connecting the bridge.

If each wheel already has its own fastening, for example wheels from chairs, it is also more convenient to fasten them one at a time. If they are connected to each other, for example wheels from a traveling bag, then it is easier to attach an additional mount. This can be done, for example, by welding. In both cases, they are attached to the back plate. The wheels should not go beyond the working surface, otherwise they will get stuck in the snow. This design allows you not only to clear snow, but also to transport it with a minimum of effort.

However, the design discussed above has one, but very significant, drawback - it is impossible for them to throw snow. This problem can be solved if the handle itself is equipped with wheels.. The advantage of such a device is that you can use large diameter wheels - this will make movement easier. Some models consist of one wheel, but for greater convenience and stability, you can use three or four.

In villages and dachas, a scraper for cleaning roofs has become widely used.. It is a metal rectangle. The device is made of light metal, such as duralumin. To prevent the frame from clinging to slate, tiles or other coverings, small wheels are attached to the bottom of it. The handle is assembled from aluminum tubes. The length is chosen so that it can be reached from the ground to the ridge of the roof.

A special feature of this design is the reinforced polyethylene film, which is attached to the bottom of the frame. Its length is calculated from the length of the roof slope. When the scraper is pushed across the roof, it cuts through the snow. Blocks of snow, falling on a slippery belt, are separated from the total mass under the influence of gravity and slide down.

With such a scraper you can work on the roof itself, but not by pushing it, but by pulling it towards you. We must never forget about safety measures. No one should be near the roof while working. If work is done at height, the person must be protected with a safety line. An observer should be present nearby, ready to provide the necessary assistance.

Despite all the talk about global warming, winters in most regions of our country continue to be harsh, so it is not uncommon for heavy snowfall to impede the movement of vehicles and even the movement of passers-by through courtyards and streets. This issue is especially relevant for owners of cottages or country houses, since they have to rely only on their own strength. Of course, you can buy a mini snowplow, but not everyone can afford it. In addition, sometimes its use is difficult and even impossible, which is why the snow scraper continues to be a popular tool.

How to choose

Today, you can find a variety of scrapers in stores for cleaning sidewalks, yards, and steps. They are mechanical and manual. If you are not ready to spend a lot of money, you will have to purchase manual scraper. It is often called a pusher or scraper in English, emphasizing the main purpose of this product - to push and scrape. Regardless of we're talking about about a store-bought product or deciding how to make a snow scraper with your own hands, it should be:

  • light;
  • durable;
  • having a comfortable non-slip handle made of material with poor thermal conductivity, which will prevent the hands of the person doing the cleaning from freezing.

From the above, it is clear that when choosing a snow scraper, it is better to pay attention to options made of plastic or aluminum, as they are durable and at the same time lightweight. In this case, the person doing the cleaning will be less tired, and the likelihood that the device will break will be reduced to zero. In addition, it is desirable that the handle be covered with rubber to prevent the hands from slipping, and that the height of the tool corresponds to the height of the person who will use it, since working in a hunched position is not particularly convenient.

DIY snow scraper (shovel type)

Everything that has been said regarding the choice of such devices in the store also applies to homemade tools for cleaning the yard or sidewalks. The easiest way to make a hand scraper is one that resembles a shovel. To make it, you can use a regular aluminum sheet measuring 40-50 cm, bent along the top edge so as to form a side 4-5 cm high. You can also bend the side sides, and make the handle in the form of a frame, like a garden wheelbarrow.

Wood scraper

To make a snow scraper with your own hands with sides made of pine boards measuring 210x23x2.5 cm, you will also need a strip of the same material with a length of 280, a width of 8, and a thickness of 2.5 cm. You will also need to use a sheet of galvanized iron measuring 73 by 70 cm.

Instead of a lath, the round handle of an old shovel will also work as a handle for a scraper. Moreover, the width and length of the scraper can be taken different from those indicated, taking into account the fact that the device must pass freely through the gate.

The bottom of the scraper is made of an iron sheet, to which sides cut from a board are attached with screws or self-tapping screws. Such a tool can also be useful in the spring, since by adding wheels from a baby stroller to it and strengthening the bottom with wooden slats, you can turn it into a light wheelbarrow for removing sawdust and garbage. In this case, the wheel axle must be placed between 2 boards and secured on both sides with metal plates.

Scraper on wheels

Rolling is always easier than dragging. Having guessed this, our distant ancestors came up with wheels. They can also be used to facilitate the process of removing snow using a manual scraper. To make such a modernized device you will need plastic or aluminum pipe with a diameter of 27 cm, from which you need to cut a sector with a length of the side part 2-3 cm less than the circumference of the section. The result will be a part that will be used as a blade. As for the frame, an old baby stroller will come in handy to create it, which can probably be found in any home with preschoolers or schoolchildren. You will also need to remove old water pipes. Next you need to perform the following operations:

  • create slots in the pipes on one side for the wheel axle, and on the other, weld them to the blade;
  • from metal corners make ears for fastening racks;
  • make 3 holes in the upper part of the racks so that you can control the height of the handle;
  • if you intend to use such a homemade scraper to remove snow on asphalt, then you can attach a conveyor protective tape to the lower edge of the blade;
  • paint the scraper to protect the metal from corrosion and give the tool a finished, presentable look.

This product will be an excellent helper, as it is convenient to use and does not scratch road surface. In addition, it can be adjusted in height to suit the user.

Homemade snow scraper on skids: what you need

Wheels are not the only way to make the scraper easier to move. It will move easily if you install the blade on the runners.

To make such useful device you will need:

  • metal, preferably aluminum sheet measuring 800 by 1500 mm;
  • thin pipe for the handle;
  • two pieces of metal corner, each 1 m long, which will act as runners.

How to make a scraper on skids

To make a scraper that glides freely through the snow, you need:

  • bend the ends of the metal knots;
  • attach a handle to them at a distance of 25-35 mm from the front end of the runners;
  • stepping 2 mm forward from the posts, install 2 pins;
  • secure the scraper;
  • install the top of the blade using clamps to help control the height of the device.

If the snow scraper, the photo of the diagram of which is presented below, is intended for a summer residence and may need to be transported by car, then the scraper can be made folding.

Motorized option

Cleaning the yard and street in winter can be made easier if you make your own snow scraper using a walk-behind tractor. To do this you don't have to apply special effort, since it is enough to attach a snow removal blade made, for example, from a curved stainless steel sheet to the bumper.

Making a manual snow scraper

You can also use a ready-made blade. You can also install a snow blade on your bike by attaching it below the handlebars.

Plywood shovel scraper

If a scraper is needed urgently and is intended to be used only for one season, then such a tool can be made in a couple of hours. To quickly make a snow scraper with your own hands, you will need a sheet of thick plywood measuring 50 by 50 cm, the surface of which should be treated with moisture-repellent impregnation, and the edge - epoxy resin. It should be lined with aluminum on both sides to ensure ease of sliding. As for the handle, it needs to be made somewhat shorter than that of conventional shovels, and the edge that was supposed to be attached to the scraper needs to be cut at an angle of 45 degrees. To make the scraper reliable, you need to drill 6 mm holes in two places and install bolts and nuts. Next, the cutting should be secured with wooden plank so as to increase the mounting angle.

Now you know several ways to make a snow scraper and you can face the winter fully armed.

Clearing the area from snow: a comparative review of snow removal equipment

However, for those people who like to make things with their own hands, making a snow scraper will not be difficult.

To make a simple, but at the same time reliable scraper, you will need a minimum metalworking tools and the most common materials that can always be found in the garage.

So, this article will be devoted to how to make a snow scraper with your own hands.

DIY snow scraper

Today there are plenty of options on how to make a snow scraper. For these purposes, you can use both wood and sheet metal. If there is a piece of unnecessary metal pipe large diameter, it turns out that it can be used to make a scraper.

Wooden snow scraper

Making a snow scraper from wood is as easy as shelling pears. To do this you will need a piece of chipboard or other durable plywood. The dimensions of the future snow scraper should not be made too large, otherwise, removing wet, sticky snow can become a nightmare.

It is important to cover one edge of the scraper, the one that will be working, with a piece of tin so that the sliding of the scraper on the snow does not cause obstacles during operation. The handles of a homemade scraper can be made from bars, attaching them with screws to work surface.
To prevent the handles of the snow scraper from becoming loose during operation, it is important to reinforce them with slope bars made from a piece of not too thick board. This completes the process of making a homemade snow scraper.

Metal snow scraper

To make a snow scraper from a sheet metal bush, you will need welding inverter and the ability to work with it. Of course, you can assemble a snow scraper on threaded connection using long bolts with nuts and wide washers.

But it is better to assemble the snow scraper by welding, since in this case it will be as strong and stable as possible during operation. In general, making a metal snow scraper is no different from assembling a wooden scraper.

There is another option for making a snow scraper from a piece of large-diameter metal pipe. To do this, the pipe must be cut lengthwise into two parts. One of the parts that will be used is secured with clamps on a two-wheeled wheelbarrow, as in the pictures above.

If there is no piece of pipe, then the scraper can be made from a sheet of thick tin, having first bent it into a semicircular shape. IN in this case, the scraper should be secured to the wheelbarrow using long bolts, having previously drilled through holes in the car body.

This simple tool becomes an indispensable assistant for a person in winter. After a snowfall, without a good shovel, it’s not easy to get to the porch of the house, drive into the garage or get into the barn.

Some might say that snow removal equipment hasn't changed since his grandfather went to school. In fact, the tools for dealing with snowdrifts have been continuously improved, making our work easier.

Today we will look at various options shovels for snow removal and get acquainted with their features. We will give recommendations for selection, indicate approximate prices and let you know useful tips for do-it-yourselfers.

Types of shovels for snow removal

The classic design of a snow shovel is familiar to everyone. This is a long handle-handle on which a wide bucket is attached.

Classic wooden shovel

Until recently, two materials were used to make ladles and handles: wood and metal (steel and aluminum).

Today they have been supplemented by composite plastic, resistant to frost and mechanical stress.

Anyone who has worked with a plastic shovel probably appreciated its main advantage - a light weight. It does not get wet from snow like wood and does not rust like steel. There are doubts about the durability of plastic, but it is usually enough for 4-5 cleaning seasons.

A compact snow shovel is called a car snow shovel. Drivers use it to clear parking lots and enter garages. For ease of transportation in the trunk, such tools are made folding, dismountable, or placed on telescopic handles.

Folding car shovel

A shovel with a telescopic handle is convenient to transport and can be easily adjusted to a person’s height

The second popular type of snow removal tool is a scraper or drag (motor). It differs from its relative in its wide arched handle and impressive width of the bucket.

The element of this design is light and loose snow. You cannot use a snow scraper on compacted and frozen crust. Here you have to use an ordinary shovel according to the principle “slowly but surely.”

In search of a compromise, designers developed a hybrid of a snow shovel and scraper. It is equally suitable for throwing snow and moving it.

Combined shovel-scraper

Moving on to mechanized models, let's consider a snow blower with an auger. Its advantage over the “old-fashioned” tool is ease of use. No strain on the lower back. You push the bucket in front of you, and the auger rotates and throws the snow to the side.

Unfortunately, this mechanism can only be operated reliably with thin layer loose snow (up to 15 cm). A thicker layer stops the auger.

In the category of super-shovels for snow removal, you can include a device called a manual bulldozer. This is a four-wheel dolly with a blade. Large working width and the ability to work in full height, make a mobile shovel an indispensable assistant when cleaning large areas.

The power of a manual bulldozer is 1 human power!

The angle of rotation of the blade here is adjustable, allowing you to work with both light and loose snow and fairly heavy snow.

A simplified version of a snow shovel on wheels is a two-wheeled model. It is less productive, but very convenient to use. The wheel axle allows you to raise the blade during operation, avoiding impacts on uneven road surfaces.

Among the unusual design solutions one can note a single-wheeled shovel. It is not yet available in our stores. It was invented in the West and dubbed the “snow wolf.” The externally awkward design, according to reviews from the owners, is very maneuverable and easy to use.

Single-wheel shovel with swinging handle

The essence of the idea is to use big wheel, on the axis of which the handle is hinged. On one side it ends with bicycle “horns”, and on the other it is connected to a plastic bucket. Scooping up snow, its owner moves around the site. Approaching the storage area, he sharply lowers the handles. The bucket rises and throws the collected snow forward. In this case, there is no need to constantly bend over, tiring your back muscles.

The next level of design “pumping” is an electric snow shovel.

The principle of its operation is simple: an electric motor rotates a rubber auger, which throws the snow to the side. This mechanism is good when you need to clean snow cover small thickness. It is not suitable for dealing with snowdrifts and ice.

Despite the durability and strength of metal, today plastic shovels are becoming the leaders in demand. As we have already said, they are lighter than steel and wood. This fact is of paramount importance when cleaning a large area.

When choosing a plastic shovel, you should pay attention to the depth of the bucket and the presence of a protective lining on its working edge. A spacious bucket speeds up the cleaning process, and a protective edging protects the plastic from wear.

The quality of the plastic is checked very simply: the tool is placed at an angle on the floor and the handle is pressed firmly on it. If the bucket is elastically deformed without cracking, then the product will not break due to frequent contact with compacted snow.

The D-shaped handle increases ease of use. It increases the force of the throw and prevents the hand from slipping off the handle. The presence of longitudinal ribs on the bucket is another plus in favor of the purchase. They increase rigidity and improve tool sliding.

The following should be said about the material. A wooden shovel with a plywood bucket is inferior to a plastic one. Wet snow quickly sticks to it, increasing the weight of the instrument. Contact with moisture causes the plywood to swell and become deformed.

Aluminum shovels occupy a middle position between wooden and plastic ones. They are light, strong and durable, but very expensive.

Steel buckets are the most reliable, but also the heaviest. With such equipment you can work on dense snow and knock down thin ice.

Having decided on the material, you should pay attention to the length of the handle (handle). It should not be too short so that you do not have to work while bending low.

You need to buy a scraper for snow removal that is as light as possible, so that you are less tired when cleaning a large area. It should be equipped with wheels or “skis” - two protruding bars on the bottom of the bucket. They reduce friction on the snow, making it easier to move the tool.

Approximate prices

The simplest plywood shovel can be purchased at a price of 150 rubles.

The cost of a snow removal tool with a steel bucket and a wooden handle starts at 300 rubles per piece.

Prices for simple aluminum shovels range from 600 to 700 rubles.

Plastic shovel Fiskars (Fiskars) with ergonomic handle, plastic, wooden or aluminum cuttings are offered by sellers at a price of 900 rubles. More advanced models with a wide bucket (scrapers) reach a price of 2 thousand rubles.

Bestseller FISKARS 142610, price from 900 rubles for 2016-2017

The cost of a simple snow scraper with a plastic bucket ranges from 750 to 2000 rubles.

The Forte mechanized snow blower, equipped with a steel auger, is sold in the retail network at a price of 900-1000 rubles. For an electrified rotary tool you will have to pay at least 6,000 rubles.

Budget mechanical snow blower Forte QI-JY-50

A two-wheeled scraper with a steel bucket can be purchased at a price of 4,000 rubles. Four-wheeled models of manual scrapers are sold at prices starting from 6,500 rubles.

DIY snow shovel

There is nothing complicated in the design of a snow shovel. Therefore, you can do it yourself at home.

Let's look at the two most popular options among DIYers:

  • plywood shovel;
  • scraper (engine) on wheels.

Having prepared all the materials necessary for the work, you can make a snow shovel with your own hands from plywood within 1 hour.

The set of parts for assembly includes:

  • A wooden strip with a cross-section of 30x40 mm (length 1.5 meters) for making a handle.
  • Plywood sheet 5 mm thick and 40x40 cm in size.
  • A piece of pine board 3 cm thick and 40 cm long.
  • A strip of galvanized steel 5-6 cm wide.
  • Wood screws 3 cm long for attaching the handle to the plywood.
  • Nails 15-20 mm long.

The tools you will need are an electric plane, a hacksaw, metal scissors, pliers, a chisel, a hammer and a screwdriver.

The first operation is production back wall ladle from scrap boards. To do this, draw an arc on the workpiece with a pencil. Its height in the center is 10 cm, and at the edges 5 cm.

Having planed the intended outline with a plane, take a hacksaw and make two cuts in the center of the board according to the size of the future cutting. They cut down with a chisel rectangular hole to pass the handle.

The edge of the cutting is marked with a pencil and cut with a hacksaw so that it fits tightly to the plywood sheet.

A sheet of plywood is placed on the wall of the bucket and secured with nails.

The steel strip is cut to the size of the bucket, its edge is bent and screwed to the bottom. Pieces of steel strip are used to strengthen the place where the handle is attached to the sheet of plywood and the area where it passes through the back wall of the bucket.

To strengthen the working edge, bend the strip in half, put it on plywood and bend the edges of the metal. To prevent the strip from jumping off the bucket during operation, it is secured at the edges with short screws or rivets.

Now let’s look at making the second design option - a homemade snow shovel on two wheels.

On the Internet you can find a solution based on a frame with handles from an old stroller. We think it's too flimsy for a normal scraper. Therefore, we suggest using a 20x40 mm profile pipe to make the frame. For our homemade product we will need a little, only 1.5 meters.

There will be no square frame in our version. It will be replaced by a central tubular strut. A handle is welded to its upper part - a segment water pipe with a diameter of 20 mm.

Before assembly begins, you will need to purchase two 8-inch diameter cart wheels. The blade is made of sheet steel with a thickness of 0.8-1.0 mm. Having drilled holes in two steel flange plates to allow the shaft to pass through, they are welded to profile pipe, performing the function of a cutting.

After this, a short piece of 20x40 mm pipe is welded to the inclined post to attach the rotating plate with the blade. Three holes are drilled in the plate and in the pipe on which it will lie: one for the mounting bolt and two for installing the locking rod that secures the blade.

Any steel tube or fittings of suitable diameter can be used as an axle for the wheels. Having passed the axle through the holes in the flanges, it is necessary to weld retaining rings to it, protecting the wheels from displacement.

Almost every person living in a private house made a snow scraper with their own hands. The design usually resembles a shovel. Sometimes the scraper is a rectangular plate with an attached handle. To make the tool easy to use, you need to know the parameters for choosing a design. If desired, the equipment can be improved, and then clearing snow with a scraper will become entertainment.

Scraper selection options

Retail outlets offer a variety of snow scrapers, among which it is difficult to choose handy tool. Snow removal equipment has the following differences:

  • size;
  • material for making the handle and working surface;
  • tool weight;
  • shape of the working surface, handle;
  • Availability additional accessories, simplifying the removal of large snow drifts.

Usually, when buying a scraper, a person is guided by his financial capabilities, which is extremely wrong. The price is of great importance, but you also need to take into account the amount of work to be done.

Firstly, scrapers are hand tools. Choose the size of the equipment according to your physical capabilities. The lighter and more convenient the scraper, the less fatigue you feel from clearing snow.

Advice! Plastic scrapers are optimal for women and teenagers. The equipment is lightweight and snow does not stick to its surface.

If you focus on lightness and long service life, preference is given to equipment made of aluminum or composite alloys.

Secondly, cleaning will be easier if a person does not bend over too much to scoop up snow. The scraper handle is selected according to your height. It is optimal to purchase a tool with a height-adjustable handle. Each family member can control the scraper, adjusting the handle to suit themselves.

Buckets of snow shovels and scrapers are made of plastic, composite alloys, plywood, aluminum, and galvanization. The cuttings are usually wooden or made from a thin-walled aluminum tube. The material of the handle only affects the ease of use of the scraper. The bucket is selected taking into account the surface on which snow removal is expected. To avoid damage paving slabs or other type decorative covering, cleaning is carried out with a plastic or wooden scraper. It is better to row on the ground or old asphalt with an aluminum or galvanized bucket. A plastic or wooden shovel will do, but they should have a steel blade on the edge that protects the blade from abrasion.

Advice! For convenient storage In the barn, it is preferable to purchase snow removal equipment with a removable handle.

Shovels-scrapers for snow removal are produced with different bucket widths, and it varies on average from 25 to 80 cm. If you plan to perform a large amount of work, it is better to purchase equipment with increased bucket sizes, for example, a drag scraper. The tool can be operated even by two people. For easy movement, choose a model equipped with casters or small wheels.

DIY snow scraper

Many owners of private yards make snow scrapers and shovels themselves. Usually the structure is assembled from a sheet of tin or plywood and a handle. Craftsmen approach solving problems creatively. Draw up a drawing of a scraper for snow removal, which includes wheels, stops, skis and other devices.

Wheeled scraper for snow removal

To clear large areas of snow, scraper blades are made, and wheels make them easy to move. To make a working surface, you will need a piece of pipe 60-80 cm long, 27-30 cm in diameter. The workpiece is opened lengthwise into 2 segments with a grinder. The solid semicircle for the blade is strongly bent. A strip 3-5 cm wide is also cut from it. You can try to slightly bend the semicircular segment, but carefully, to avoid the formation of dents from blows with a sledgehammer.

When the blade is ready, begin assembling the scraper on wheels:

  1. A steel plate is welded to the back side of the blade strictly perpendicularly in the center. At its edge, 5-7 holes are drilled in a semicircle. Another hole is drilled in the center of the plate.
  2. Take a piece of pipe. One hole is drilled at the end. The workpiece is connected with a bolt through the central hole of the plate. The tube will rotate up and down at the bolted connection. Now a second hole is drilled on it, matching those on the edge of the plate. The result is an adjusting mechanism for raising the blade. To fix it, use another bolt.
  3. The wheelset for the scraper is taken from an old stroller or made from a piece of pipe, secured at the ends rubber wheels. The second end of the blade adjustment mechanism tube is welded to the center of the chassis.
  4. The handle in the shape of the letter "T" for the blade is made of steel pipe with a diameter of 20 mm. It can simply be welded to the center of the chassis under the right angle, but it is better to make an adjustment mechanism, such as on the blade.
  5. The scraper is almost ready, but it will scratch the tiles and knock out crushed stone from the asphalt. You can improve it with a patch knife. It is cut in the form of a strip from a thick conveyor belt. Through matching holes are drilled along the entire length of the lining and the lower part of the blade, and the parts are connected with bolts. The finished structure for clearing a large area of snow is painted, providing protection against corrosion.

Before you start clearing layers of snow, set a comfortable angle for the bucket and handle. The elements are securely fixed with a bolt on the adjusting plate. They begin to shovel the snow with pushing movements forward.

Advice! If cleaning takes place on a dirt road, and the snow has compacted or turned into an ice crust, it is better to remove the rubber blade. Metal edge The ladle will make it easier to cut off the ice.

A manual scraper on wheels can be easily converted into a shovel engine. The handle is disconnected from the chassis and placed on the walk-behind tractor using a hitch. If there is a motor lying around the farm, it is permanently installed on the scraper, having first welded a frame for it. Drive to the wheels is provided through a belt or chain drive.

Scraper with brush

When cleaning tile sidewalks, roofing A telescopic snow scraper, additionally equipped with a brush, is convenient. The magazine version consists of an extendable aluminum rod with a comfortable handle attached to one end. A rectangular plate is attached perpendicularly to the second end. One of its edges is plastic or rubber, and the second is made of stiff bristles that form a brush. The hard side of the scraper is used to first remove thick layers of snow. Use a brush to sweep away the remaining thin layers.

You can assemble a similar scraper yourself, but it is better to attach the brush to the back of the blade on wheels. After one pass through sidewalk path The improved scraper leaves clean tiles without the slightest snow residue.

Ski scraper drawing

A traditional metal snow scraper in the form of a rectangular plate and a U-shaped handle is difficult to push. My back and arms get tired. In addition, the edge of the scraper often cuts into the ground if the tool is held at a shallow angle. The improved design shown in the drawing helps to simplify the removal of thin layers of snow. Essentially, the work consists of installing a finished scraper on the skis.

Skids 1 m long are made from corners. The edges are folded upward so that the skis do not crash into the ground. The scraper is fixed at an angle to the runners with bolts, having previously welded the eyes. The lower edge of the working plate should also rest on the skis, and not rest against the ground.

DIY snow scraper

Before you start making a scraper, you need to think about where the snow will be removed with the tool. Its shape and design will depend on this question. Suitable for removing a thin layer of snow from a flat surface. simplest option with U-shaped handle:

  1. From aluminum sheet 3 mm thick or plywood 5-6 mm thick, cut out a rectangle. The width of the workpiece is taken as standard - 50 or 60 cm. The length depends on the physical capabilities of the operator. Usually they adhere to the parameter from 0.8 to 1.2 m.
  2. If plywood is chosen for the scraper, the edges are framed with steel tape to protect against abrasion.
  3. For a U-shaped handle, it is advisable to find a thin-walled tube. An excellent option is a frame old folding bed. It is made from an aluminum tube and it is already bent into a “P” shape. The handle is fixed to the plate with bolts.

The scraper is pushed through the snow with both hands, holding it at an angle toward you. Cleaning with a wide tool can be done by two people.

It is more convenient to remove large drifts and transport snow outside the territory using a drag scraper. The most difficult thing to make in such a tool is a ladle. It is cut out of thin galvanized steel or sheet aluminum. The joints of connected fragments are fixed with rivets or bolts with a diameter of 5-6 mm. Bolted connection A U-shaped handle is fixed to the bucket. Fastening is carried out as often as possible so that when lifting a bucket loaded with snow, the sheet metal does not break.

To remove snow from the roof, a plastic scraper is used. The design consists of a handle with a rectangular plate at the end. At self-production the working surface is cut out of plastic barrel. It is advisable to make the handle collapsible from aluminum tubes. This scraper makes it more convenient to remove snow from slopes without climbing on them.

Tubes are used for the collapsible handle different diameters. If the workpieces are the same in thickness, adapters are used. We need to find at least small pieces of a smaller diameter pipe. Long pipes are placed on the workpiece at both ends. To prevent the scraper handle from coming apart while removing snow from the roof, the joints are reinforced with bolted joints.

The disadvantage of the end model is the cleaning process. You have to pull the snow on yourself. After passing one strip, the scraper is again thrown onto the top of the roof slope.

The best telescopic scraper for removing snow from the roof is frame structure. In the home version, the handle is similarly assembled from aluminum tubes. A rectangular frame made of a rod or thin tube is attached to the end. The size of the part depends on personal preference. A long strip of waterproof fabric is fixed to the bottom element of the frame. A piece of old awning or thick film will do.

Snow removal is carried out by cutting layers. The scraper frame is pushed along the roof slope from bottom to top. The cut snow slides down the belt, falling under the foundation of the building.

DIY snow scraper the better that it is given the desired shape and size, which determines the ease of use. In addition, the inventory is free.

Ecology of knowledge. Homestead: Let's talk about how to make a regular shovel or scraper for cleaning local area after another snowfall.

Let's talk about how to make a regular shovel or scraper for cleaning the local area after another snowfall. They will definitely come in handy if you live in a private house, because you have to clear the area of snow yourself, without relying on utility services.

Of course, it is very convenient to have your own snowblower on the farm. Snow melting and anti-icing systems also cope well with the problem. However, such devices are not affordable for every homeowner; many are still forced to work with their hands.

How to make a shovel yourself

Let's start with the simplest and affordable option- plywood snow shovels. All you need:

  • Piece regular plywood“fours” measuring approximately 50 by 50 cm. With a shovel bigger size it will be difficult to work even for an adult and physically to a strong man;
  • A piece of board as long as a piece of plywood, that is, 50 cm for the back wall, the end of the working part of the shovel;
  • Ready cutting from an old one garden tools, a wooden strip of suitable length and strength, an aluminum pipe - anything that can serve as a comfortable handle for a shovel;
  • A strip of galvanized metal, with which we will protect the edge of the plywood and significantly extend the service life of our shovel;
  • Nails. The most common ones. You can also use wood screws or self-tapping screws. And to fasten the handle it is better to take a furniture bolt;
  • The tools you will need are a jigsaw or a wood saw, a hammer or a screwdriver (depending on what type of fastener you use), a tape measure for measurements, pliers to bend a metal strip, a grinder to cut it out, and sandpaper.

First of all, mark the middle on the cut out square of plywood - this is where the handle will be attached. A hole should be cut in the middle of the board for the handle of the shovel. The edges of the plywood and the wooden slats-handle are cleaned sandpaper. At the edge of the holder, a wedge is cut off at an angle so that it fits more tightly to the plywood. If your handle is an aluminum pipe, flatten its end. The galvanized strip needs to be bent along the edge of the plywood. In principle, that's all - you can assemble a shovel using self-tapping screws or nails. To be sure, the handle can be additionally secured with a galvanized strip, which is also attached to the plywood.

If desired, the shovel can be painted. As for purchased options, the simplest snow shovel will cost 250 rubles. And there is no guarantee that it will last long.

Using the same technology, a snow shovel is made from an aluminum sheet. In this case, the sheet should be bent at the back so that a side with a height of about five centimeters is obtained. They also make side skirts. Since aluminum is a fairly soft metal, a galvanized strip along the front edge of the work surface is also necessary, as is the case with plywood.

A purchased version of an aluminum snow shovel can cost 400–500 rubles.

A scraper, engine, scraper for snow removal can be a very simple plate made of the same light plywood, only in this case experts advise taking a “six”. The leaf dimensions are approximately 1–1.2 m long and 50–60 cm wide. The handle will be not just a handle, but a structure that is attached to the edges of the scraper sheet to make it convenient to work with two hands when removing snow.

The edges of the plywood must be reinforced with metal strips, otherwise the scraper will not last very long. The handle can be welded from metal, and also fastened from three wooden slats. Craftsmen advise using a handle from an old folding bed as a handle for a scraper - it is round, comfortable, durable, and will attach perfectly to plywood.

A purchased simple version of a scraper or engine for snow removal will cost from 500 to 1200 rubles, depending on the material used and the manufacturer.

The disadvantage of a regular scraper is that it allows you to clear snow from paths and the yard, push it away, but will not help you throw it away, carry it out, or remove it from the territory. In this regard, scrapers in the form of a bucket are much more convenient, where you can load snow and move it outside the site.

It is already more difficult to make such scrapers with your own hands; you will need a sheet of stainless steel, which will have to be bent, and, if necessary, welded to give it the shape of a ladle. It’s not for nothing that such scrapers are often called draggers - they allow you to quickly drag snow out of the yard and operate on the principle of a bulldozer.

Scrapers on wheels or skids are even more convenient. The bucket can be made from half a metal pipe or barrel, and the wheels can be taken, for example, from an old baby stroller. You will have to weld the runners yourself, but they drive on snow very easily. published
