How to finish the entrance door slopes: choose how to finish the door slopes after installation. We improve the front door opening: finishing options How to sheathe the front door from the inside

Sooner or later, any apartment owner comes to the conclusion that insulating the front door is a necessity. Covering a door with leatherette with your own hands will help solve several important problems - its thermal and sound insulation and decorative design.

The conclusion that the door should be insulated is usually realized in the cold season, when a draft begins to blow through seemingly very small cracks. But is it worth waiting for winter? Isn't it better to carry out such work in advance?

When solving the issue of transforming a door leaf, you can turn to the simplest method of covering - evenly stretching leatherette, or you can use more complex options when several pieces of material are used.

In any case, all the nuances need to be thought out in advance and the necessary tools and materials for the work must be prepared.

Preparing for door trim

To ensure that nothing distracts the master directly during the work process, you need to do the following in advance:

1. Prepare a sketch of the future cladding, if it has any design. This may be a carefully verified drawing or, in case of emergency, even an ordinary pencil sketch.

2. Based on the drawing, you can make a list necessary materials that will be needed for work:

  • Leatherette or artificial leather can be purchased in specialized stores where you can find big choice this material. There you can choose it not only by thickness, but also by color and textured pattern on the surface. The standard width of leatherette is 1100 ÷ 1400 mm - it is just suitable for a door leaf in an apartment. Add 200 ÷ 250 mm to the length of the door leaf.

If a door is being sheathed in a private house, which has two leaves, then to the dimensions obtained when measuring, you need to add 100 ÷ 150 mm, both in length and in width of the material.

Leatherette will also be needed to make the rollers framing the door leaf. They are strips of material that have a length equal to the height of the door and a width of 130 ÷ 170 mm. You will need three of these elements.

If the door leaf is sheathed with separate elements of leatherette, then more of it will be needed. When calculating the material in this case, it is necessary to take into account its inward bending on each individual element by 50 ÷ 100 mm on all sides.

Another option for covering with a pattern would be to remove it with separate strips of leatherette. Their number is calculated depending on the chosen decorative design.

  • Insulation material will help achieve thermal and sound insulation.

Sheet foam rubber is well suited for insulation and sound insulation.

For these purposes, use thick padding polyester, felt or foam rubber. The material must have a thickness of at least 10 ÷ 25 mm, depending on its density and the expected volume (relief) of the pattern, which will be created using constrictions or decorative nails.

If it will be insulated, then you need to purchase foam sheets of the required thickness.

  • In the case where you plan to use nails covered with leatherette or artificial leather for decoration, you should choose the color of their heads so that the whole composition looks harmonious.

The sheathing will look more presentable if the nail heads are large enough and the same color as the entire sheathing fabric.

Another option would be nails with metal heads that match the color and texture of the material of the handles and locks.

  • To finish a metal door you will need glue, since leatherette and a thin layer of insulation will be glued to its front side. Universal “Moment” or “88” glue is well suited for this purpose.
  • To make sealing rollers, it is best to purchase ready-made round insulation with a diameter of 10 ÷ 20 mm. It is sold by the meter in hardware stores. This material will give the roller a neat, uniform, rounded shape.

3. To work, you also need to prepare some tools:

  • A small hammer for driving nails.
  • A stapler with staples for fixing material to the surface before driving decorative nails. The optimal size of staples is 8 ÷ 10 mm.
  • Scissors and construction knife for cutting and trimming materials.
  • To dismantle locks and handles and then install them back in their original place, you will need a screwdriver or screwdriver with different attachments (bits).
  • It would be a good idea to have pliers and a nail puller on hand; they can be useful for removing old trim and removing nails that have not entered the door leaf incorrectly.

4. Having purchased all the necessary tools and materials, you can begin preparatory work.

  • First, you need to remove from the door everything installed on it. elements - locks, handles and viewing eye.
  • If you are going to trim a door that already has old finishing material, it must be removed. The nailed material can be bent using a nail puller, separating the leatherette from the surface, and then, using the tool to hook the nails, carefully remove the canvas completely.

If the insulation is not glued to the door, the old trim will come off easily. The thin layer of material remaining on the surface does not accommodate the new finish.

  • Next, some craftsmen remove the door from its hinges and, for the convenience of further work, lay it on several chairs or on enough big table. Before removing the door from its hinges, be sure to make lines on the door leaf along the contour of the door frame.
  • In most cases, the sheathing is carried out in a vertical position, without removing it from its hinges.

The process of covering a door with leatherette

As you know, a door is usually sheathed on both sides - external and internal; there are some differences in these processes that you need to know about when starting work. In addition, there is a significant difference in the finishing technology of wooden and metal doors.

And, of course, there are different ones that also need to be considered before starting work.

Lining the inside of a wooden door

When starting work, you need to immediately pay attention to where the door opens - towards the entrance or into the apartment, since the location and size of the rollers will depend on this.

This publication will consider the option when the door opens inside the apartment.

  • The first step is to install the sealing rollers. They are made from prepared leatherette strips and ready-made foam rollers or strips of other insulating material.

Leatherette is folded in half and a strip of insulation is placed inside. Then, place the roller around the perimeter of the door, so that it protrudes beyond the door leaf by 4 ÷ 7 mm, since it should cover the gap between the jamb of the door frame and the door, which is formed after it is closed. On the hinge side, the roller should completely cover the door jamb. The roller is secured using stapler and staples, starting from the top right corner. From there they go to the upper left corner, then frame the sides with it. It is attached to the lower part last.

  • The next step is cutting out the insulation. The size of the cut strip should be 8 ÷ 10 mm smaller than the door leaf.

It is also secured with staples to the door plane, leaving 20 ÷ 30 mm free at the edges so that decorative material can be wrapped between the insulation and the door material - leatherette.

  • Next, you need to correctly place the main leatherette fabric. The main thing is to avoid distortions, otherwise the work will look sloppy.
When installing the main upholstery, it is very important not to make a mistake with the exact direction of the leatherette strip and its even tension

First, the top of the canvas is secured. It is folded under the insulation and nailed with decorative nails, placing them at a distance of 80 ÷ 100 mm from each other.

After the top edge is secured and the correct direction is checked again, it is nailed left-hand side, and then the right one. As fastening progresses, the material is stretched. The bottom edge of the material is nailed last.

  • Next, it is very important to accurately mark and cut out the holes for the locks and peephole.
  • If you want to make a drawing on the surface, you first need to mark it, and then fill in decorative nails along the markings, starting from the center of the canvas. In this case, you need to try not to stretch the leatherette too much so that sagging does not appear.

Wooden door - external cladding

The door trim that opens into the apartment from the entrance side is done as follows:

  • Before starting work, you need to close the door and outline the door frame opening on the door leaf. This line will determine the location of the trim on the door leaf. If leatherette is nailed to the entire surface, then both the door and the lock will not close.
  • The insulation is cut out 10 mm smaller than the outlined area and secured with staples.

  • Next, tucking the insulation, leatherette is stuffed along the marked line, in the same order as with inside doors - first on top, then on the sides. The bottom edge remains free for now - it will be attached later.
  • In this case, the insulating roller is fixed to outside door jamb on three sides, but it is not installed on the threshold. This element, when fixed, should cover the cracks, extending 20 ÷ 25 mm onto the door leaf. But the keyhole must be free, and this must be provided for in advance.
  • The bottom roller should not be made bulky, as it will simply wear off over time and look sloppy.

It is fixed to the bottom of the door itself, and its edge should not extend beyond the marked line by a single millimeter, since the door in this case will not be able to close. When closing the door, this element should fit tightly to the threshold from above, that is, as if located on it.

  • The lower part of the main leatherette sheet is pulled and nailed onto the roller nailed to the door, or, as shown in the photo, you can hide the bottom edge in the roller being secured.
  • Next, holes are made in the leatherette covering for door accessories - locks, peepholes and handles. They need to be cut very carefully, without expanding more than necessary.

Metal door - leatherette finish

IN last years In high-rise apartments, a second metal door is increasingly being installed in addition to the wooden one. It’s good if you have the opportunity to immediately purchase insulated and, but very often it consists only of metal sheet and frames made of angle or profile pipe. In this case, the apartment owner picks up the tools and independently brings the door into proper shape.

The inner and outer sides of the metal door leaf also have their own characteristics in their lining.

Inner side of a metal door

If an unsightly metal frame without insulation and decorative materials, this can easily be corrected by installing foam sheets of suitable thickness and covering it all with a decorative panel. To work, you will need something slightly different from the casing. wooden door materials.

  • Foam plastic with a thickness equal to the depth of the frame frame.
  • Polyurethane foam will be needed to seal the seams between the installed foam and the metal frame.
  • Wooden slats for fastening to the inner sides of the frame - they will be needed as a basis for attaching the decorative panel.
  • Self-tapping screws and drills for metal - they will be used to drill holes in the corners ( profile pipe) for screwing wooden slats to a metal frame.
  • Decorative nails for fixing leatherette to the surface of plywood.
  • Wood screws for screwing plywood sheets to wooden slats.
  • A sheet of plywood, in shape and area equal to the door frame, with a thickness of no more than 10 mm.
  • Decorative leatherette and a thin sheet of foam rubber, 10 ÷ 15 mm thick.
  • Glue or double-sided tape to secure the insulation to the plywood.

Finishing work inner surface the door goes as follows:

  • Wooden slats are screwed to the inner ribs of the metal frame. It is first necessary to drill through holes through the slats and metal frame elements.

  • After fixing the slats, gaps may form between them and the metal sheet, which will become cold bridges, so they are sealed with polyurethane foam. It will also contribute to the rigidity of the slats.

  • Next, polystyrene foam is installed between the fixed and insulated slats, around which polyurethane foam is also passed. This treatment will also help securely fix the foam in the cells and close last ways possible penetration of cold.

  • On plywood sheet you need to mark the location of the wooden slats in the frame, since it will have to be screwed to them.
  • If you need to hide the heads of the screws under the cladding, then the plywood needs to be screwed to its cladding.
  • First, the sheet is screwed to the middle slats, so that all edges remain free for inserting leatherette behind them.
  • Foam rubber is attached to the installed plywood with glue, or better yet, with double-sided masking tape.
  • The leatherette is stretched from above, tucked over the edges of the plywood, and at the corners and along the edges in the middle of the sheet it is screwed through with self-tapping screws, the heads of which are recessed into the plywood. The resulting holes can be carefully sealed with a piece of material, and a nail with a decorative head can be driven in nearby.
  • Next, the leatherette is stretched and nailed along the entire perimeter. Since nails are quite difficult to drive into plywood, you need to choose durable ones made of high-quality metal that will not bend.
  • Thus, the decorative panel will be well fixed to the frame.
  • Then, you need to mark it location lock, cut the leatherette and insulation, and then carefully drill holes in the plywood.

It must be said that instead of plywood and leatherette, you can use laminated lining to decorate the inner surface of the door. It is installed from the bottom and gradually rises to the top, and the sides of the lining are covered with a special corner.

External side of a metal door

When decorating the outside of a metal door, you can use not too thick felt for laying under leatherette, which is glued to the metal surface.

  • The insulation is cut out smaller size the door leaf is 7 ÷ 10 mm, and leatherette is larger than this size by 60 ÷ 80 mm. This extra section will be used to fold the edge to the other side of the sheet.
  • Polymer glue is applied in strips to the surface of the metal sheet.
  • Next, insulation is applied to it and pressed. It is necessary to give time for the glue to set and dry.
  • Leatherette is stretched on top of the insulation, bent over the edges of the metal door panel and glued to the other side. It is best to use quick-drying universal glue for this purpose.

First, the top edge of the material is glued. Next, it is stretched and secured to the side parts of the door. If excess material forms on the folds, it is best to cut it off, otherwise it may interfere with the free closing of the door leaf.

If the finishing material is very dense, and the folds at the corners are too thick, then it is better to cut off some of the leatherette in these places.

  • If you do all the work slowly, the door will turn out neat and respectable.

  • Finally, the door frames are installed and screwed onto the door. accessories - locks with handles and a peephole, if provided for installation.

"Carriage" trim

“Carriage” lining or screed is quite popular, as the door after it looks aesthetically pleasing and respectable. However, not every apartment owner can afford this, since the work to complete it is quite painstaking and requires skill.

The “carriage” trim looks very impressive

This covering is made in two different ways - from solid material or from pre-cut pieces of leatherette. Both methods are risky, since in both the first and second options the material may be damaged and the door may not be sheathed if there is no experience in performing such “filigree” work.

...however, do this difficult work Not everyone can do it.

Therefore, for starters, you can practice and sheathe the surface of a stool in this way, for example. Any fabric can be used for training.

In order for all the work to be successful, a number of preparatory measures need to be carried out. It is very important not to neglect careful marking - only in this case will geometrically even shapes of squares or rhombuses be obtained.

  • To mark, you need to take a sheet of thin plywood, the same size as the door leaf. It needs to be drawn into even squares or rectangles.
  • Where straight lines intersect, they are marked and then drilled round holes, so that their corners form rhombuses or squares.
  • The plywood is placed on a foam mat and through the holes on it the places where decorative nails will be driven are marked.

Preliminary marking for “carriage” upholstery
  • Next, the marked foam rubber is transferred to wooden base. If it is too thick, round holes may be cut into it for driving nails.
  • They go around the holes or drawn circles with a stapler, nailing the insulation to the base and marking the recesses.
  • The leatherette is drawn from the wrong side into even squares, which should be 8 ÷ 10 mm larger on each side than the figures drawn on the foam rubber. These extra millimeters are needed to bend the edges of the material when nailing it.
  • Then, the material is cut into marked fragments, and you can begin to attach it to the door leaf.
  • The pieces are placed on the foam rubber according to the markings and nailed. You can first mark them with a stapler and then nail them with decorative nails.

Each fragment is laid and fastened separately - extreme care is required
  • You need to make sure that the pieces of leatherette overlap each other in one direction, otherwise the harmony of the pattern will be disrupted.
  • Without the proper experience, the work will seem quite complicated and long, however, if you are patient, you can gradually complete it successfully.

It is much more difficult to remove a carriage pattern from a solid canvas, since it is very difficult to accurately measure and grab identical strips that will serve as a foam tie between the nails.

There are other ways to upholster a door using thin strips of leatherette or fishing line, but in order to achieve the desired success, first in all cases, careful marking of the door leaf is necessary.

If this work is done independently, then not only will you gain experience and skill in performing it, but you will also save a significant amount. Therefore, if you want to try yourself in this unique art of wallpaper, then it’s worth taking a risk by training first on small surfaces.

Entrance doors in this series are not only strong and durable. They have exceptionally high aesthetic properties. For finishing, the manufacturer used a wide range of decorative panels.

From the article you will learn:

When purchasing an iron door, in most cases the buyer receives it with the simplest level of finishing. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not always include in its assortment door models with already installed finishing materials of high quality.

As you might guess, it's all about the financial side of the issue. Companies producing this type of product focus primarily on the mass buyer, and he, as a rule, is very constrained in financially. So manufacturers have to reduce the cost of the production process as much as possible in order to optimize the costs allocated for production.

In these realities, a person who decides to buy an iron door, in order to get a beautiful appearance, needs to do what is called “bring it to mind,” that is, finish it with his own hands. Due to the fact that the Russian market of finishing materials is ready to offer the end buyer a wide range of diverse solutions, there seem to be problems with choosing suitable option should not arise.

So, let's look at the most popular types of finishing materials for iron doors today.

Powder coating

Spraying of a special powder composition onto the outside of the door is carried out only in workshop conditions, using a high-thermal oven for this purpose. In order for the spraying to be carried out in compliance with all necessary standards, the door blank, the surface of which is previously coated with a special powder, is placed in an oven heated to four hundred degrees Celsius.

Under the influence of such an environment, the powder melts. After maintaining a certain time interval, the door blank is removed and forcedly cooled. At the end of this procedure, the applied powder coating acquires a characteristic strength, which in its properties is higher than the strength of other coating mixtures.

Wood veneer

“Veneer... there is so much mystery in this word” - I just want to say this phrase in relation to the text of this article. But really! Not many people know. Veneer is the name given to dried wooden strips bonded together under pressure of several atmospheres.

Decorating the door with veneer is done by stacking wooden planks in such a way that a pattern is created on the surface of the door. To protect against dust and dirt, wooden components are varnished. To prevent the material from losing its original color, a colorless varnish is selected for application.

Currently exterior decoration The veneer of an iron door is in second place in popularity, after vinyl-leather finishing, which will be discussed below.

Vinyl leather

Finishing the outer part of an iron door with vinyl leather is still the most popular way to beautifully and inexpensively decorate the entrance to an apartment. The advantages that this material has make its use the best in terms of price/quality ratio. Here are its advantages:

  • excellent level of thermal and noise insulation;
  • wide range of available color palettes;
  • long service life;
  • low cost.

However, with all its advantages, this material has one significant drawback - it breaks even when touched with not the sharpest objects. For example, it’s easy to damage it with a bunch of keys.

Laminate

The use of laminate for finishing an iron door on the outside is currently not yet widespread. But this material has many positive qualities: it is resistant to impacts (only not from sharp objects), its palette has many available colors, plus its care is distinguished by its simplicity. Laminate flooring does not need to be cleaned - it smooth surface Can be quickly and effectively removed with a damp cloth. However, it is not predisposed to operation in conditions of significant humidity.

So, in this article we examined the possibilities of modern door finishing materials presented on the Russian market. To finally decide on how to decorate an iron entrance door, it is enough to choose one of the above material options. Meanwhile, the option of using finishing, which includes the possibility of using several materials at once, also has the right to life.

The installation of entrance doors cannot be considered completely completed until the design of the entrance door inside the apartment is completed. These are slopes. It is the finishing of the slopes that will complete the composition of the entrance group and beautifully decorate the doorway. Let's consider materials and technologies that allow us to make slopes for entrance doors and transform the interior.

Finishing slopes near the front door

On the outside of the apartment or house, after installing the front door, everything is improved with the help of platbands or other materials. From the inside, everything is usually much worse - concrete, brick, and fastening elements of the door system catch your eye. To hide all this, you have to select materials and finish it yourself. The process is simple and does not require much time or financial investment.

The main function of the slope is to give the doorway a normal appearance. It allows you to securely fasten door frame, increasing the resistance of the structure to burglary. That is, the slope is necessary element, and not just decoration.

Basic methods

Finishing is carried out based on the technology of slope formation - a variety of materials can be selected for cladding. The most important thing is to decide which installation method will be used.

Let's consider the main technologies, because the choice should be approached responsibly:

  • Sealing using mortar or plaster.
  • Gluing finishing materials with solutions.
  • Frame cladding with finishing materials.

There are other methods, but these are more popular among professional builders and DIYers.

Sealing with mortar or plaster

One of the acceptable methods of finishing doors is sealing with mortar, but it is also necessary to take into account the high labor intensity. This approach provides maximum level protection and good sound insulation. The result will be a structure that will not sag or have voids inside.

This option, although it has advantages, is quite cramped in terms of design. Finishing the interior is possible using painting or textured plaster.

Bonding finishing materials with solutions

If, in addition to filling the voids with mortar, you line the slope various materials, then the appearance of the doorway can change significantly. When fully implemented, this method combines the advantages of the first option, but does not have its inherent disadvantages.

Frame cladding with finishing materials

This finishing option involves installing finishing materials on a pre-fabricated frame made of wood or metal. As a result, a lot of money is saved, and it is also possible to achieve an aesthetic appearance. When using a frame structure, get high performance evenness and achieving all levels is much easier, which is important.

Where to begin

Regardless of the chosen option for finishing door slopes, first of all, you need to start with preparatory work:

  1. The door leaf and frame are protected from damage using masking tape.
  2. All places are removed (cut polyurethane foam), which protrude and can interfere with the installation process.
  3. All work surface sweep and prime. Experts recommend using soils deep penetration.
  4. Power cables and wires are being laid that will serve to illuminate the hallway. If the slope is made using frame technology, then it is better to postpone the installation of wiring until later.

Stages of work

You can divide the finishing of the entrance door inside the apartment into three stages:

  1. Preparatory processes (already described above).
  2. Installation of the slope using the selected method and material.
  3. Finishing is last operation and decorative design of the opening.

10 options for finishing internal slopes

Above we looked at the main ways to finish a slope indoors. Based on them, there are 10 more finishing options. They are suitable for a variety of occasions. You need to understand that there is no ideal finishing option - each method has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Finishing door slopes using plasterboard is the most labor-intensive method and the most beloved by many craftsmen. It is not enough to sheathe the opening with plasterboard; you also need to apply putty to it, and then paint it with acrylic water-based paint or cover the slope with wallpaper. But the result will be a beautiful and as smooth surface as possible.

Work on finishing slopes can be done in two ways - frame and frameless. The last option is easier. Adhesive finish using plasterboard does not require particularly careful preparation, there is no need to smooth it out work area. If there is a slight blockage on the side wall, it is corrected by applying a thin layer of plaster mortar up to 10 mm. If the base area is initially flat, then the task is simplified as much as possible.

The algorithm will be as follows:

  1. The base of the opening is carefully primed and waited until completely dry.
  2. Measure the overall dimensions and mark the plasterboard slabs.
  3. Using a jigsaw, cut the sheet into several necessary elements.
  4. Moment glue or its equivalent is applied to the workpieces every 15-20 cm.
  5. The glue is given time to dry - wait until a characteristic film appears on the surface.
  6. Place the parts on the wall, align them, and press them pointwise with your palms.

Instead of glue, liquid nails, polyurethane adhesives and polyurethane foam are also suitable. But when using foam, you need to work carefully - there is a risk that the sheets will move.

On video: the easiest way to finish the upper slope.

Plaster

Using plaster solutions for finishing door jambs will require certain skills from the master. The work is quite dirty and also requires a lot of time. The wall should already be leveled during preparatory stage

, cleaned of construction dust and primed.

Particular attention should be paid to the concrete lintel, which is located above the door - it is treated with “Betonokontakt”. This is a special primer for surfaces that do not absorb moisture well. For plastering it is also necessary precise installation beacons for leveling.

  1. The algorithm looks like this:
  2. Using a level on one of the side walls at a distance of 3 cm from the door, mark the position of the vertical line.
  3. Next, holes are drilled along the line every 30 cm - their diameter should be 6 mm.
  4. A 6x30 mm dowel is installed in the resulting holes and the caps are leveled with twine.

The beacon is attached to the clips and the verticality is checked.

After installing the beacons, begin preparing the solution. The simplest and most inexpensive option is to use quarry or river sand and M-150 or M-200 cement.

  • To obtain the correct consistency, the ingredients are mixed in the following sequence:
  • Mix 3 parts sand and 1 part cement in a container.
  • While stirring, add clean water to the container.
  • At the same time, the solution is mixed using a special attachment on a drill.

When the mass envelops the instrument like dough, the mixture is ready for use. Using a spatula or trowel, with a little force, throw the mass onto the wall on one side and the other of the jambs. It is necessary to completely close the installed beacon. When a small area has been completed, they move on to processing another. A rule is applied to the beacons and a layer of plaster mixture is smoothed. This way you get a perfectly flat surface.

In the video: plastering the slopes of the front door with cement-sand mortar.

Decorative plaster

The technology for finishing door frames is almost similar to conventional plastering. It is recommended to apply this mixture to previously plastered areas. If applicable decorative composition with texture, then the rough wall may not be finished perfectly. If you additionally finish it using colored stone chips, you will get a beautiful and durable surface.

Among the disadvantages this method One can note the cost of the finishing material, high labor intensity and the fact that there is a lot of dirt in the process.

MDF panels

It is the fastest of all types finishing works. The process does not require a large amount of material and tools.

It should also be noted that it is easy to install, but only if the slope is narrow enough. If the slope is wide, then the seams between the panels will be noticeable. The easiest way is to use special ready-made elements

for finishing door frames in the shape of the letter L, but the problem is that they are not cheap, and they cannot be purchased everywhere. Installation is carried out according to an algorithm similar to drywall, but may differ slightly.

Here, glue is also used, the wall is pre-treated, and then the elements are glued to the surface according to size. It is necessary to control the position of vertical elements. If heavy metal doors are installed, there is a high probability of deformation due to high loads

. Therefore, the plaster can crack within a year. In such cases, frame installation is used.

  • This technology is optimal when:
  • surface deformation must be prevented;
  • a heavy MDF sheet is installed;

it is necessary to eliminate excess space from the inside.

  1. The walls are cleaned and checked for cracks and crevices.
  2. If necessary, surfaces are repaired and treated with antiseptics.
  3. Next, using a level, set the outer beam or profile and fix it with dowel nails.
  4. A second rack is mounted parallel to the installed element and rigidly attached to the main wall.
  5. The racks are fixed parallel to each other along the entire perimeter in the door opening.
  6. The structure is reinforced with jumpers that should connect both parts.
  7. In the meantime, insulation materials are placed in the cells of the frame, MDF strips are made and secured with liquid nails. It is important to achieve minimal gaps between the planks.

Laminate

This is a variation of the item discussed above. But, unlike MDF, laminate is more suitable for finishing a door portal of any depth and has good external properties. The seams between the panels will be almost invisible. You just need to remember that laminate inexpensive material and he looks the part.

Chipboard panels

According to experts, chipboard is one of the best materials for finishing doors. Among its advantages are:

  • wide range of colors;
  • quick installation without seams;
  • high thermal and sound insulation characteristics;
  • resistance to low temperatures;
  • affordable price;
  • long service life.

Fastening of cut-to-size elements is carried out using liquid nails. The work is similar to finishing using plasterboard. Installation requires degreasing of the joints. Next, the elements are glued. When the glue has polymerized, the gaps between the chipboard and the wall are filled with polyurethane foam. The color of the panels may be different, perhaps imitation wood.

PVC panels

This design looks very cheap, but the plastic is inexpensive, quite durable and easy to maintain, although it cannot be called reliable. You will also have to take care of insulation. The process of finishing a door frame does not require special skills and can be carried out even by novice craftsmen.

Artificial or natural stone

Internal cladding with natural or artificial stone is, according to designers, a thing of the past. And they used such solutions because of the enormous wear resistance of the materials and their simple installation. Among the disadvantages is the lengthy process of gluing the stone.

After gluing the stone, adjacent walls can only be painted or covered with decorative varnish.

Tiles and mosaics

Once you install the mosaic, you can admire it for a long time - its service life is very long. Tile materials are not afraid of moisture and are difficult to scratch. But this all looks quite strange. Ceramics are usually used to decorate walls, bathrooms and kitchens.

Dye

Entrance doors are often finished inside by painting. This is true if the slopes were previously plastered and perfectly leveled. It is best to choose water-based dyes, but acrylic analogues are also suitable. But if there is no opportunity to purchase them, then ordinary enamel will do.

Naturally, the surface must be prepared in advance - the slopes are puttied, primed, and, if necessary, leveled. Then the surface is thoroughly cleaned. To protect doors and walls, use covering film and masking tape. A roller is used to apply paint, and brushes and sponges are used for hard-to-reach places and joints.

You can make door trim yourself without resorting to the services of specialists. The main thing is to follow the chosen algorithm exactly and purchase quality materials. And if you have any questions, there are detailed video instructions for this.

Different options for finishing slopes (50 photos)

When carrying out renovation work in a house, owners are often faced with the need to update many products and systems. First of all, this applies to entrance and interior doors.

For some things, only a replacement is suitable, while for others, it is possible to give new life. Finishing old or defective surfaces will hide door imperfections and update the interior.

How to decorate a door?

The entrance to the apartment is the hallmark of the home, so it is very important to install a good-quality and beautiful entrance door. It is the first thing that guests who come to the house pay attention to. It is necessary to refine not only the surface of the canvas, but also the frame and fittings. To do this, there are several ways that can quickly and efficiently update the product.

Coloring

This is the most economical option decorating the door structure. IN modern world It’s not at all difficult to find a suitable tone, because there are many different shades produced by many well-known companies. In addition, it is possible to obtain the ideal color by mixing the coloring composition with the color scheme, observing certain proportions.

For painting door designs Acrylic water-based, oil-based and nitro paints are best suited. Acrylic paints They are made on a water basis, and therefore dry easily and do not have a specific odor. They are absolutely safe for health and have a long-lasting bright color. But nitro paint has Strong smell, therefore suitable for painting external structures.

Oil paints are used less frequently than the previous ones, since they do not have such high performance qualities, but they can quite cope with painting wooden and metal canvases.

Apply coloring composition you need to use a special roller in several layers. Before applying the next layer, be sure to wait until the previous one has dried. You can also paint a pattern on the surface of the door using templates and brushes. This method is suitable for processing doors both outside and inside the apartment.

Pasting

This method is suitable for people who do not want to wait for the canvas to dry. Adhesive film is well used in many areas and helps to decorate almost any product in short time. It consists of a colored film, an adhesive surface and protective paper, which must be removed before pasting.

Before pasting the door with self-adhesive, it is necessary to prepare the surface. It must be cleaned so that there are no protrusions left on it. It is better to fill various cracks and chips with putty. And just before pasting, dirt is removed from the structure and degreased.

Wood and MDF paneling

Suitable for handmade decoration doorways. Most often, this method uses thin wooden planks, which are attached to the canvas with glue. Subsequently, the wood must be processed. And in order for it to retain its appearance for a long time and not deteriorate after some time, it must be treated with a moisture-repellent composition.

In addition to wood, MDF overlays can be used to decorate the structure. They are also attached with adhesive. Thanks to diversity color solutions material, you can update the door in any style. In addition, such refining looks very impressive.

Facing

For this method, it is possible to use veneer, plastic, laminate and PVC. These materials are applied only when exposed to warm air. At the same time, you need to work very quickly to do everything smoothly and efficiently.

Padding

The least common solution for upgrading door structures. But this way you can achieve a luxurious and attractive look. If you apply upholstery to an old, worn door, you can hide all its defects. In addition, this option helps to insulate the canvas.

Slopes and doorways can be leveled with plaster, tiles, mosaics, upholstery, plastic and wood panels. But the thickness of the lining must be sufficient for the door to open and close freely. Framing the box will allow you to get a new design.

How can you decorate doors beautifully?

You can use many methods and materials to update an old door. For example, it can be sheathed PVC panels, plastic, iron sheet, MDF, wood, laminate, lining, plasterboard, linoleum, eurolining and chipboard. You can cover the box with veneer and update the canvas itself decorative stone, leather or leatherette and even carpet.

All these types of finishes allow you to choose the most suitable material, which will suit both price and performance indicators:

  • Door decoration MDF or PVC panels suitable for wooden entrances and metal products. The main advantage of these materials is their low price and lightness. installation work, thanks to which you can update the design in a short time. MDF and PVC panels are good because they are quite durable, safe and easy to maintain. The panels can be covered with natural veneer, a layer of lamination or plastic.

  • Door renovation is much easier plasterboard, plastic or metal. Sheets of plasterboard, chipboard and lining are most suitable for covering the slopes of a doorway. Of course, the most available material in this case it is plastic, and the most expensive is natural stone.

Eurolining and PVC lining are available in a wide range of colors and can have any design, which eliminates the need for finishing. But these materials are extremely unstable to mechanical influences, which cannot be hidden with your own hands.

  • The most expensive, but at the same time the most effective material is leather or leatherette, which is also called dermatin. Faux leather can have different characteristics and appearance. For example, it can be smooth, porous and structured, and its wide range of colors allows you to decorate almost any interior. But you need to be extremely careful with such materials and you need to know how to properly upholster a door with them.

  • Door trim has become increasingly used siding, since it is suitable for both internal and external works. Siding is practical, durable, fire-resistant and easy to maintain. Installation of siding is carried out in the same way as installation of lining.
  • More recently, it began to be used to decorate an apartment. clinker tiles, which simulates brickwork. To install it, you must level the surface near it and moisten it. doorway water to seal the cement.

  • Finishing laminate used when you want to achieve the look of natural solid wood, but this is not possible. This material can imitate solid oak, pine, cedar and other wood species. It is easy to work with, but it is best to use it only to decorate the inside of the door, as it delaminates when exposed to moisture.
  • Save cash and will help you achieve extraordinary results Decoupage technique. They resort to it when they want to decorate the design and individualize the apartment. Suitable materials for decoupage include fabric, newspapers, photographs, appliques and napkins.

Metal door trim

Cladding an iron door can be done in two ways: cheap materials (leatherette, leatherette) and expensive decorative panels:

  • For restoration of a product with leatherette or vinyl leather Only glue should be used. To do this, the edges of the structure are lubricated with adhesive and foam strips are attached to them. Excess parts can be cut off with a special knife. Then glue the end of the upper part of the door and glue the upholstery starting from the top. Be sure to smooth the fabric while working to avoid wrinkles.

  • To cover an iron door with decorative panels First you need to measure it. It is important to know the exact dimensions of the canvas and width inner corners, which will subsequently be covered with sheet foam and wooden beams. Then, on the upper and lower parts of the structure, you need to make a mark along the attached block. Using a drill, 16 holes are made in the canvas for fastenings, the diameter of which should be identical to the diameter of the screws. The bars are fixed on the canvas, after which holes are drilled for attaching the decorative panel.

At the end of the finishing work, you need to make holes in the panel for peephole, locks and handles. The inside of the metal door is covered with polystyrene foam, and MDF panels are attached on top.

How to decorate the front door from the inside?

The door design on the apartment side can be designed in different ways. The best option is painting, for which you do not have to remove the canvas from its hinges. The surfaces adjacent to the product should be covered with newspapers so as not to get dirty during painting. All fittings are removed or sealed with tape. The surface of the door is first sanded and then treated with a protective impregnation, which will protect the wood from moisture. And after complete drying, the structure is coated with paint and varnish in 2-3 layers.

To decorate the veneer, you will have to prepare an iron and a sheet of paper. Repairing the canvas begins with removing it from its hinges and taking measurements. Veneer strips are applied to the surface of the product so that the pattern matches. It is advisable to number each piece so that there is no confusion in the future.

It is better to glue the veneer from the top, gradually moving down. To do this, remove the protective paper from it and glue it to the canvas. To get rid of bubbles and folds that have arisen, place a sheet of paper on top of the veneer strips and iron them with an iron.

These methods of lining the inside of the product are carried out without any difficulties. The main thing is to take the correct measurements and do everything carefully.

How to cover the outside of a street door?

To decorate the door from the outside, it is important to take into account the features of all possible materials. It is important to ensure their strength and durability so that their properties do not change under the influence of external environment. Moreover, you need to understand that not every material can be used to process the external or internal part of the structure.

To update a box located from the street with your own hands, you can use:

  • Steel sheets. Their structure can be smooth or embossed with an imitation of an interesting pattern. Good sheets of steel will protect the room from drafts entering the room, but they must have a backing made of polymer or cork.
  • Viniplast. It may consist of fiberboard or PVC. This material is not resistant to sun rays, and therefore it must be coated with a special varnish with an ultraviolet filter.

  • Marine plywood looks like natural wood. After installation, it is covered with stain and frost-resistant varnish. If you need to change old plywood, then this process will not take much time and effort.
  • Leatherette is a material that is equally suitable for interior and exterior decoration. It is quite easy to install, and it also has different design. And its soft structure can hide sharp corners.
  • Fake diamond Available in thin panels that are fixed to the outside of the door using construction resin. The structure, lined with stone, looks very impressive.

To reconstruct the street side of the door, it is necessary to use insulation - isolon. The thickness of the isolon can be any - it all depends on personal preference. Staples, sealant or nails are suitable for fixing the insulation. After this, the canvas itself needs to be decorated.

How to decorate a door with your own hands?

You can veneer a door yourself in different ways. Wallpapering is considered the most common. Any type of wallpaper, from paper to liquid, is suitable for this method. Before processing with this material, it is necessary to prepare the canvas: remove the paint, putty all the imperfections and sand it. You can cover the entire canvas or just the paneled part with a wallpaper sheet, cutting out parts of suitable size.

The decor can be fabric, which, due to its structure, will make the product unique. But it is necessary to choose the fabric, taking into account the degree of its shrinkage. Multiple fabric sheets can be used different designs.Patchwork technique quite popular among designers: you can cover the entire canvas or just the central part with fabric. The product can be covered with unusual nails, beautiful laces, and baguette frames.

An unusual finishing method is mirror acrylic. Using mirrors you can visually enlarge the space and improve lighting. Since it is not always possible to cut out the desired part from a mirror yourself, you can purchase a ready-made panel with amalgam. The simplest option is shaped acrylic mirrors. They can be arranged into one whole and cover the entire canvas, or they can be placed in the center, leaving the rest of the space free.

Attach acrylic mirrors to a previously cleaned surface. You need to apply a primer to the back of the mirror sheet and to the door itself, and only then secure the panels using glue. You can resort to mounting suction cups, which will greatly speed up the process.

How to make cash for front doors yourself?

Cashing is a decorative element that completes the design of the entire building. Its purpose is to hide irregularities after installation of the entrance structure. With its help, noise insulation is improved and thermal conductivity is reduced.

The cash box should be in the same style as the house, so when choosing it you need to take into account some rules:

  • it must be combined with the walls of the building;
  • her performance characteristics must be of the highest level so that despite atmospheric influences its appearance remains unchanged;
  • the dimensions of the platbands should be such as not to be lost against the rest of the background;
  • the internal cashing may be flat or round, and sometimes threaded.

For the space between the doors, it is better to purchase wooden trims. But they can be replaced with plastic or metal elements. To prevent shrinkage of the structure, a window frame is installed in a wooden house. The oscillator can be made in four ways: in an embedded block, in a shim monolith, in a tenon with a ready-made slope, and in a log.

In order not to select the platbands yourself, you can buy a ready-made kit consisting of canvas, boxes, cash, extensions, hinges and handles. This set will make your work much easier.

Dimensions

Regardless of the type of construction, doors have standard dimensions that were established by GOST:

  • The height of a standard opening varies from 2.07 m to 2.37 m. The exact parameters are set taking into account the height of the ceiling and the width of the door.
  • Width standard design equal to 90 cm, but this figure may vary depending on the individual parameters of the canvas.
  • But the thickness of the doorway can be anything - there are no standards set for it. The thickness of the box is selected taking into account other indicators.
  • The dimensions of the doorway do not always correspond to standards. In a cottage or private house they can be anything, but within 2 by 2.4 m. It is better not to widen the opening beyond these figures, otherwise it will be very difficult to choose the right door.

By showing your imagination and devoting a little free time, you can create a work of art. Many ideas for decorating an old door are striking in their originality:

  • For example, to create an atmosphere of bohemian celebration, you can use rivets and various beads, which very often lie idle in a box of small items.
  • Holes that form unusual patterns can decorate products.
  • Quite unusually, you can decorate the door frame with buckwheat. This process will take a lot of time, but it will allow you to decorate the room.
  • In addition to the door itself, you can decorate the space around it. For this you can use bows, artificial flowers, ribbons and laces.

  • Unusual sensations will be experienced by a structure decorated with wreaths, bouquets, glass inserts and other original things. From the entrance side, you can glue a large horseshoe or an improvised nest onto the canvas.
  • A door with painted butterflies, flowers, trees or clouds will look quite gentle. It is not necessary to draw out every detail; you can make the drawing in the form of an abstraction.
  • You can also draw patterns near the doorway that smoothly flow onto the canvas itself.

From this article you will learn:

  • What are the features of the interior decoration of the front door?
  • How to properly trim an entrance door opening
  • What to consider when finishing the arch and installing the front door trim
  • When making major renovations in an apartment or private house, it is worth thinking about high-quality and beautiful interior decoration of the front door. But not everyone can figure out what needs to be done and how. There are many materials, methods and options for finishing, and not all of them are suitable for your door. In this article you will learn how to decorate the interior of an entrance door.

    Basics of interior decoration of a metal entrance door

    The designs of metal entrance doors are different, and their appearance is different, both inside and outside. There are several parameters by which owners choose finishing materials:

    1. Own preferences and desires.
    2. Will you be able to finish the entrance structure yourself or will you have to hire specialists?
    3. Interior decoration in your apartment/house. The door must match the decoration of the room.
    4. Additional requirements, such as sound insulation, thermal insulation, tightness.

    When thinking about buying an entrance door, apartment owners want to purchase something original, different from standard models. But not everyone understands that the capabilities of the companies manufacturing these structures are largely limited. The choice of metal door designs is especially small. With wood, things are better in this regard.

    Manufacturers of metal doors initially make them with good finishing, both internal and external. The coating material on the outside and inside is different, but the color and style can be chosen the same. The palette of colors and textures is very different, so every potential buyer will find the design that suits him and suits the style of the facade, hallway and adjacent rooms.

    There are many finishing options, the most common are:

    • laminated fiberboard, or laminate, but this option is used only for interior decoration;
    • powder coating applied to both sides of the door;
    • MDF boards, both sides are also lined with them;
    • the most common painting;
    • substitute for natural leather made of synthetic materials, leatherette;
    • wood. This could be the cheapest lining or more expensive oak.

    It happens that after renovation, you no longer like the interior decoration of a metal entrance door, does not fit the interior, or looks morally outdated. In addition, problems may also arise in the fact that the door lets in the cold and needs insulation. In this case, facing the front door will help. Moreover, you can do it yourself; it will be several times cheaper than buying a ready-made insulated structure.

    There can be many purposes for additional interior decoration of the entrance door in an apartment, for example:

    1. Improve those properties and functions of the door for which it was specifically created (insulate, for example).
    2. Change the color or style of the front door.
    3. Mask scratches, cracks and other defects on the door.
    4. Additionally protect the metal structure from corrosion.

    There are enough different ways to solve this problem that you can choose the right one. In most cases self-insulation The metal entrance door is made using polystyrene foam and then finished with vinyl leatherette. Sometimes manufacturers immediately cover the door with clapboard or laminate.

    There are also private workshops that manufacture metal and wooden entrance structures. At such factories, if desired, you can order the product individually. The door can be finished with expensive materials, such as genuine leather or oak. It's not cheap, of course.

    Cheap entrance doors from unknown companies (usually Chinese) often only look high-quality and durable. But in fact, they are made of thin tin, the lock on such doors can be easily cut with a primitive tool, and in addition, in cold weather it can freeze. There is no need to talk about the heat-saving ability of such a design. In Moscow, you shouldn’t risk your safety and comfort just to save money.

    It is important that external finishing The front door was of high quality: durable, weather-resistant, and with a good lock. It would be nice if the door at least looked like this - strong, bulletproof. It happens that they make two panels on one door frame. In this case, the second of them can be wooden on a metal frame.

    A single, non-insulated entrance door will allow heat to pass through. If it is installed in a private house, then in frosty weather frost will appear on the inside of the door and the lock will freeze, as a result of which the door simply will not open. But residents of apartments in multi-storey buildings do not face such problems, since the entrances are not as cold as outside. It should be noted that such shortcomings do not occur with high-quality expensive doors.

    Recommendation: If your lock sometimes freezes in winter, then it’s worth purchasing antifreeze liquid. It is injected in a small amount into the keyhole, but this product cannot be used constantly.

    The most common materials used for interior decoration of apartment doors are natural wood (board or lining) and other veneered materials based on it. But they are quite expensive. Budget options for mass-produced entrance doors often have different hidden defects: the canvas itself is not whole, but welded from pieces; there may be other foundation imperfections underneath the interior finish; bad insulation. A good front door should not only be reliable and strong, but also sufficiently insulated. In addition, you need to take care of beautiful interior decoration and design of the threshold and slopes.

    Methods for interior finishing of arches and installation of front door trims

    Even if the door is unusual, original and not the same as everyone else’s, arches and trim are still installed. There are two options for doing this job.

    Frame installation

    A frame is constructed from wood, and all cladding elements are attached to it. The frame rests on a solid surface and is covered with panels.

    Advice: Before fixing wooden slats, they should be treated with an antifungal liquid, preferably with deep penetration. The solution is applied in two layers. This procedure will significantly extend the life of the frame.

    If you want to do the interior decoration of the front door yourself, first you need to measure the height of the fastening of the trim or arch parts. This is done using a level and a level rod.

    We cut the slats to the required length and fix them to the wall with a hammer drill using dowels. You should not use dowels from the kit; it is better to buy plastic dowels separately and select self-tapping screws for them, the diameter of which will be a couple of millimeters larger. This way the connection will be more reliable, because in the future the structure will experience loads and vibration, it is better to immediately make it strong.

    Important! When performing interior finishing of the entrance door slopes and the door leaf, it is necessary to accurately determine the height of the slats. It must be taken into account that the slopes in relation to door leaf can be perpendicular or located at an angle.

    It is very important to correctly measure all the parameters of openings and slopes, no matter what kind of door you are finishing - metal or wood. If you make a mistake with the dimensions, there is a high probability that the door you ordered will not fit you. And in the case of MDF, for example, it will be impossible to change or adjust it.

    The finishing of the door is completed by fastening the panels - lining or laminate. The experts give advice on how to do this correctly:

    1. The panels are fixed with self-tapping screws. But there is one subtlety: first you need to make a hole with a drill, and then screw in the self-tapping screw. It must be recessed into the panel, thereby hiding the cap. Then plastic plugs are placed on top, which should be purchased in advance and selected by color.
    2. When finishing with clapboard, the screw head is sealed with putty. You can either buy it or make it yourself by mixing PVA glue with fine sawdust. This area needs to be polished when it dries.
    3. When decorating the interior of an armored entrance door, it is worth considering its weight. When using sealing rollers, they must be soft and elastic enough so as not to create additional stress on the door frame and at the same time easily return to their original position after compression. If you make them too hard, they will loosen and move the box.

    The cost of such interior decoration of an entrance door varies over a fairly wide range, but the installation rules are always the same.

    Installation without frame

    Finishing in this way is done if the space for the door is limited, there is simply no room for the frame.

    Sequence of work:

    1. It is necessary to prepare the surfaces - clean, level.
    2. Then the panels are mounted using glue or dowels.
    3. The gap remaining between the wall and the cladding is filled with construction foam.

    Important! Before installation, it is necessary to draw the level of fastening of the panels in order to correctly maintain the plane.

    To finish a door or window opening, you can use siding and other available materials.

    For each method of finishing doors there are certain rules. If you adhere to them and strictly observe them, the work will be of high quality and durable.

    Plaster

    Known to everyone classic version. The wide popularity of plaster is due to its advantages:

    • long service life, which lasts for decades;
    • strength if you use really high-quality mixtures;
    • maintainability. If necessary, you can easily restore any damaged area;
    • acceptable price. Plaster is usually the cheapest material.

    Plaster mixtures allow you to get durable surface, resistant to various types of influences. The main thing is to use the plaster correctly, and then it will last a long time.

    Before applying plaster, the surface should be prepared. It must be cleaned of dirt and dust, all defects removed, and cracks covered.

    Using a small amount of plaster, beacons are installed, and, if necessary, laid around the perimeter wooden slats. It will be needed to determine the thickness of the layer and serve as a guide.

    The reinforcement mesh is attached to the dowels. It will provide the greatest reliability to the plaster layer.

    If some areas will not be plastered, then cover them with cardboard and masking tape so as not to get dirty.

    The mixture is prepared in the required proportions and applied with a spatula to all areas. Using a level, you constantly monitor how smooth the surface is.

    Advice! If it is necessary to apply a layer of more than 10 mm, then the work is performed in several stages. The reinforcing mesh is applied when applying the 2nd or 3rd layer.

    When the plaster dries, the beacons and slats are removed, and the places where they were located are coated with the remaining mortar. It is necessary to install perforated corners in the corners of the walls and also plaster them.

    Drywall

    Drywall is best used when all the walls in the room are covered with this material. But it is also possible to make separate gypsum board cladding when finishing the interior door slopes. But this material is very fragile, so you should be extremely careful when working with it.

    First, surface preparation is carried out, but it may not be as thorough as in the case of plaster. Serious defects are simply corrected.

    Afterwards, measurements are taken and recorded on a sheet to create details. To avoid large errors, take measurements twice.

    In accordance with the recorded dimensions, the slab is cut using a sharp construction knife.

    Be careful when cutting the slab, do it only with a well-sharpened sharp knife. Let us repeat, drywall is a very fragile material.

    GKL parts are fixed with putty or polyurethane foam. When using foam, incorrect distribution can lead to further defects on the surface, although the job is much faster than with putty.

    Foam is applied to the underside of the sheet in a zigzag pattern. Elements are attached to the surface, but are immediately torn off. After ten minutes the final fixation is carried out.

    When facing with plasterboard, joints and edge gaps are inevitable; they must be treated with sealants and plastic corners installed.

    Drywall can be further decorated to your own taste, for example painted.

    Paneling

    You can also complete the interior decoration of the entrance door in an apartment using panels. This is a very simple method, the technology of which has much in common with installing drywall. But there is another option with pre-sheathing. At the same time, it is possible to additionally insulate the front door.

    As a frame, a wooden beam is installed vertically along the perimeter on dowels.

    Advice! Before installation, it is necessary to treat the slats with antiseptics, which will prevent rot and mold from developing.

    Next, the panels are cut to the appropriate size. Insulation is placed in the free spaces between the slats. This must be done carefully so that there is no empty seats. The panels are fixed to the frame slats. To do this, you can use both glue and screws.

    For the interior decoration of the entrance door in an apartment, panels made of MDF or thick plastic are better suited, since cheap PVC panels look ugly.
