How to connect a television cable. How to connect a TV antenna cable to each other. Necessary tools and materials for extending the antenna cable.

There are several reasons for extending or expanding a television cable. The most common reason is moving the TV from one room to another. Probably, during the initial installation of the television cable, the possibility of rearranging the interior of the room was not taken into account, and as a result there was a lack of cable length. In addition, pets love to chew the cable in places where it is laid openly. Changing the cable along its entire length is a costly job; you can get out of this situation by extending the cable, having the necessary tools and material in order for television to work in the house.

How can you extend the TV cable?

How to connect a television cable with another piece of coaxial wire due to a lack of standard length during the process of remodeling a room? This can be done in 4 ways:

  • a standard coaxial cable extension, which is sold in different lengths, from 2.5 meters to two dozen, is not a cheap option when saving money is required during the repair process;
  • buy special F sockets and use them to make a connection;
  • use a “splitter” to connect sections of TV wire;
  • use soldering television wire.

If you do not have an additional piece of wire for your TV, experts recommend making the right choice of coaxial cable in the store.

Important! Choosing tv cable It must be remembered that in Russia RK 75 (characteristic impedance 75 ohm) is considered standard; imported RG6 and RG59 cables are often used. Pay attention to the quality of the external insulation; it must be elastic and withstand repeated bending.

Based on the production of the inner braid, whether it is rare or dense, one can judge the quality of the product. If it is rare, then you are being offered a product of low quality, only the dense braiding does not allow multiple interference from the television signal to pass through. Ask the seller for a passport for the product being offered. It is necessary to pay attention to the signal attenuation parameters: length and frequency. The lower these values, the better the quality of the cable.

Tools and materials

Connecting a television cable with another section of a similar cable or complete replacement it occurs as a consequence of the causes of impact on it (damage by impact, friction) during the renovation of an apartment, when furniture is rearranged, or the original installation of the TV cable becomes obsolete.

To extend the television cable you must have:

  • coaxial cable;
  • F socket, adapter, “splitter”;
  • cable cutting tool, knife;
  • crimping tool, pliers.

Extending the TV cable using F connectors

Considering the question of how to connect the antenna cable to each other using “F» connectors, it is necessary to carry out preparatory steps:

  1. Purchase in the store for one connection: two F connectors and one F connector, adapter;
  2. It is necessary to cut the wire of one and the second section.

Important! The store has an F connector and an adapter for sale. different sizes, For the right choice you need to take a piece of TV cable, this will make it easier to select a connector according to the diameter of the cable.

We cut the cable, for this:

  • using slight pressure, cut through the main sheath of the television wire a few centimeters in length;
  • wrap the cut shell in reverse side and remove it at the starting point of the cut;
  • the cable screen is bent towards the uncut part of the cable (aluminum foil or braided braid, sometimes a screen made of staniol braid);

Note! The cable screen, foil, is given strength by applying a thin layer of polyethylene to its reverse side, which can cause poor contact in the connector. Delete thin layer It is impossible to use contact insulating material; you just need to return half of the turned-off screen to its original position. Then, when the connector is screwed in, contact will occur along the outer part of the screen.

Important! If by some chance your cable diameter is smaller than the internal diameter of the connector, you need to put several layers of insulating tape on the cable before returning the turned-off screen to achieve a tight connection.

  • the next step after processing the cable screen is to strip the main core; you must carefully remove the insulation, avoiding damage to the central core and the formation of notches on it from cutting tool, which can lead to a decrease in its strength and rapid breakage where the notch is made.

After preparing two sections of television wire (cable cutting), F adapters are wound onto it. The plug must fit tightly on the cable, the central core is shortened so that no more than 5 millimeters of the main core protrudes from the plane F of the connector, in other words, the adapter must have a protruding central core.

Extending the cable using a splitter

When studying the question of how to extend a television cable using a “splitter,” let’s consider what kind of device it is. A splitter is a small box that has a cable input and several outputs. The purpose of this device is to branch a single television antenna into several television receivers (TVs), or to connect receivers to a single television cable.

The requirement that applies to this type of cable extension is that the device is rigidly mounted on a plane (vertically or horizontally).

We prepare the TV cable by cutting both ends to be connected for the f plug, the same method as cutting for the adapter.

The wire that comes from the TV antenna must be connected to the input of the device, and the second piece of cable that comes from the television receiver must be connected to the output of the splitter.

Extension of a television cable using a “splitter” implies the further possibility of branching a television signal throughout the apartment.

How to extend a TV wire by soldering

Connecting an antenna cable if it breaks by soldering is the least expensive of all methods of extending antenna wires; you only need to have basic operating skills, a soldering iron and solder. Using soldering, you can extend the cable without losing the signal; in addition, you can connect cables different diameters and with different wave impedance.

Perhaps you only have the required piece of television wire at hand, but its main core is stranded, and your cable has a monolithic central core. Soldering can solve this issue; you can also solder a screen from a braid of copper wires and aluminum foil. Procedure:

  1. We separate the outer sheath of the television wires on both sides by six centimeters;
  2. We release the internal insulation of the main core from the screen by turning it in the opposite direction from the connection. We shorten it to two centimeters;

  1. The main core with the insulation of the extended television wire is located in relation to each other at 45 degrees;
  2. We tinning the main cores, then connecting them using thin tinned wire, soldering the connection completely;

Note! Soldering should be neat, without bumps or sharp solder growths.

  1. The area of the connected central wire is insulated with the existing insulation; the excess can be removed. It is recommended to cover the connection point with a roll of electrical tape for strength;
  2. We return the screens of the spliced cables to their initial position;

Important! If one of the screens is foil, consider that it is not a contact inner part when connecting to another screen. In this case, it must be correctly deployed so that there is full contact of one screen with the other. For reliability, the screens can be soldered through a copper wire wrapped around the diameter of the cable.

  1. We restore the external insulation of television wires.

TV antenna

When the television signal disappears, many owners of “blue screens” blame the TV antenna as the culprit. There are two solutions to fix problems:

  • contact professional antenna tuners;
  • repair the cable connection of the television wire.

Visual antenna malfunctions can be seen on the TV screen when:

  • interference occurs
  • TV picture disappears
  • the image breaks up into colored squares (satellite dish).

How to lay the cable correctly

For a television cable, after it is extended, the question of its fastening always arises. Extending a TV cable, according to many TV owners, is not difficult, but you must comply with the requirement, which experts attribute to additional requirement during installation, the bending angle of the cable should not be sharp or straight.

This is not allowed due to the design of the cable, since the main core can push through the internal insulation and get dangerously close to the shielding braid or, in the worst case, touch it.

In the first case, there will be a noticeable weakening of the television signal, and if the main core touches the screen, it may disappear altogether. You should always adhere to the rule that says that the bend of the cable should not be less than 5 of its diameters.

IN modern design In apartments, skirting boards with cable channels are used, into which the television cable is laid. TV cords are laid in plastic boxes, they have different dimensions, the cable is laid in a P. shaped profile and snapped on with a lid. In such boxes it is allowed to lay Internet and communication cables together with television wires. Power wires of electrical wiring are laid separately.

Experts use the methods described to recommend how to repair a TV cable and talk about the need for correct laying. When it is laid in the baseboard channel, it is advisable to use construction stapler to create a fastening to the inner wall of the plinth.

Important! When renovating an apartment, always leave a supply of television wires, based on half the perimeter of the room, in case you rearrange furniture or TV.

Note! Modern television receivers use, in addition to the antenna cable, additional adapters that connect to the TV wire.

The quality of the image is also affected by the shelf life (operability of the TV cable), the reason for this is the qualitative change in television broadcasting stations and improvement in technology. For this reason, when looking for a malfunction or a bad TV picture on the screen, you need to start from the parameters of the installed TV wire.

Additional Information. In order to simplify the work of extending the television wire, experts recommend choosing threaded F connectors, without soldering. There are plugs with a soldered screen, then before soldering the screen, you need to tin it and quickly solder it to the plug without melting the internal insulation.

If you connect a TV extension cable to an antenna with an amplifier, you should use only the plug that is included with the antenna. It has a decoupling device and a power supply with connection.

  • during the renovation process, install a television cable in each room of the apartment;
  • try to install television wires with hidden installation in a protected version: corrugated sleeve or plastic box;
  • it is recommended to use a cable with a lower attenuation coefficient, but not less than 22 decibels;
  • the distance between the power electrical wiring on one side and the antenna cable with Internet wires on the other side must be at least 150 millimeters.

When choosing a method for extending a television cable, you must understand that this violates its integrity and always reduces the quality of the resulting image on the television receiver - it is advisable to change the cable completely, from the splitter to the TV signal receiver. Connection using F connectors is considered the simplest and most accessible for cable extension; in addition, the reliability of the connection is maintained.

When choosing soldering to extend wires, you need to remember about the temperature heating of the surfaces, carry out all operations without melting the insulation, check the reliability and quality of soldering, do not make low-quality twists, it is better to have a soldered bandage on the central cores.

Video

In this article we will look at several ways in which you can extend your Internet cable. With your own hands (using twist) and without additional devices, or with minimal costs (using an adapter). Using the instructions in this article, you can also extend the network cable that you use to connect your computer to the router, or for other tasks. Not just the cable that your Internet provider installed into your home.

Most often, there is a need to extend the Internet cable that comes into our house or apartment from the provider’s equipment. Please note that we are talking about cable. If you have, for example, fiber optics, then the solutions in this article will not work. During the repair process, when rearranging furniture, or moving devices, it turns out that the Internet cable is short and does not reach our computer or router. In this case, there are not many options: adapt to the length of the cable, ask the provider to lay a new cable of the length you need (which they are unlikely to do), or just sharpen the Internet cable. What are we going to do now? But first, some tips:

  • If you want to connect a regular network cable that you use to connect two devices (for example, PC with router), then perhaps this makes no sense. It is easier to make a new cable of the required length. This will make it easier and the cable will be more reliable. Since any connection and especially twisting is not very good. You can make such a cable yourself, or ask to crimp the cable to the required length at some digital equipment store.
  • Perhaps in your case it makes sense to install (if it doesn't exist yet), and not extend the cable and lay it through the entire apartment. And if there are stationary computers to which a network cable is most often laid, then they can be installed in the same way. You only need a Wi-Fi adapter, which I wrote about.
  • If we're talking about specifically about the Internet cable connection, then you can call your Internet provider and explain the situation. That you do not have enough length of the network cable laid into your house. Perhaps the provider will offer you some reasonable solution. For example, they will send specialists who will replace the cable free of charge.
  • Internet sockets. If they are installed in your house/apartment, then consider possible options connections using these outlets.

If you cannot do without connecting a network cable, then it is best to use special connectors (coupler, joyner). If everything is done correctly, the quality of the connection will not suffer. I do not recommend using twists. They create additional resistance and this can greatly affect the stability of the connection. And ultimately on speed and ping. A computer or router may simply not see such a cable.

Extending the network cable using an adapter (connector)?

This method is suitable in all cases. Both for connecting the network cable through which the Internet enters the house, and for extending the network cable for a computer, TV, router, modem, etc.

These connectors look something like this:

They call him a joyner. There is simply an input for the network cable on both sides (for RJ-45 connector). The "mom-mom" type. To connect a cable using such a LAN connector, you need to crimp the cable on both sides into an RJ-45 connector. I wrote in the article how to do this with your own hands without a special tool. If you have a special tool (crimper), everything can be done according to these instructions: .

If you use such a connector to extend the Internet cable, then you can buy a second piece of cable in the store. It will be ready (with connectors). If the cable of the required length is not available, then this cable can be made for you. Ask around in stores that sell computers and other computer equipment.

Simply connect two network cables to such an adapter and you're done.

Let's say on one side we have an Internet cable from the provider, and on the other side there is a second piece of cable that we made ourselves or bought in a store.

There are slightly different LAN cable connectors - couplers.

With their help, extending the LAN cable is even easier and more convenient. There is no need to crimp the cable into the connector and no special tools are needed. Only a screwdriver.

Do not confuse these connectors with splitters. They have one entrance and two exits. And they are intended for other tasks.

If you need to extend the network cable for a computer, TV, router

When the network cable is not long enough to connect a computer, TV, another router or some other device from a router or modem, you can also use connectors. But don’t forget that you can always buy or make a longer cable, or connect the device via Wi-Fi. Perhaps in your case this solution will be more correct and convenient.

Of course, you can take two pieces of twisted pair cable crimped on both sides into an RJ-45 connector and connect them through the connector.

Using such a cable, you can connect absolutely any device that has a LAN input to the Internet.

We connect the Internet cable using twisting

I already wrote above that this is not the most The best way, which can be used to connect a network cable. The quality of the connection may suffer, or even not work at all. But if there are no other options, or you need to do everything urgently, then you can try.

Simply strip the cable at both ends and twist it color-matched. For insulation, use insulating tape or heat shrink tubing. Each cable must be securely twisted and insulated.

I did everything for the first time. The most difficult thing is to strip the veins and twist them. They sometimes break. First we remove the outer insulation, and then we strip each wire.

I think this can be done more accurately than I did. After the network cable is twisted, each wire must be insulated. I used heat shrink tubing. Duct tape will also work. Here's what I got:

Believe it or not, this cable even turned out to work :)

Just be careful with it, the wires are very fragile without insulation. They are easy to break and the cable will not work. You can wind the cable lower so that the connections do not move or break.

Write in the comments what method you use to extend the network cable and how it works for you.

Recently, providers are increasingly using . It's simple and reliable way connections to the World Wide Web. What is especially important is that when using a local network, the user does not need to install any programs, drivers or additional equipment(like an ADSL modem).

Your Internet cable needs to be connected to the WAN port (Internet port) of the router, and the compressed twisted pair cable to the regular LAN port of the router and to your computer. After simply setting up your router, you will be able to use the Internet as before.

Method No. 3. To extend the Internet cable, you can twist it.

The easiest way. All you need is a piece of twisted pair cable of the length you need. It is not difficult to purchase uncrimped twisted pair cables.

After this, you need to cut your Internet cable in any convenient place and wedge in the purchased piece of twisted pair. This is quite easy to do. In order to connect a twisted pair cable, you do not need to solder anything. All you need to do is expose the conductors and carefully twist the twisted pair according to the colors. Naturally, everything needs to be properly insulated using electrical tape. You can watch the video on how to twist twisted pair cables.

Who among us has not encountered such a problem when you are doing something electrical, for example, repairing a switch, and all the wires are screwed in, but one breaks off. Moreover, it broke off so unsuccessfully that there is practically no way to twist it with another wire. What to do? How to extend the wire to continue your electrical wiring work.

How to extend the wire, i.e. increase its length?

The situation can be worsened by the fact that the wire that comes out of the wall is aluminum. Typically, in all old houses, the wires laid in the walls are aluminum. If you strip the tip of a wire and begin, for example, using pliers to twist it with another wire, then there is a high probability that this last tip will break as well. But then the situation will be completely bad. If you have concrete wall, you will have to hammer it to get to the wire. If you have drywall, you may need to remove the entire wall and re-route the wires. So, you don’t know how to extend the wire, and the current situation is an alarming signal for the start of major work:

Don't worry, there is a way out!

A special connecting block for electrical wires comes to the rescue. In the article you can read about a sufficient variety of such blocks, which invaluablely help us connect one wire to another in various combinations. In the meantime, I’ll tell you the principle itself. Let's say a short single-core wire (aluminum or copper) comes out of the wall. We take this block, made in Germany:

This block has 2 inputs filled with a special paste, which makes it universal and allows you to connect aluminum and copper wires in any combination. We have to:

With this simple technique you firmly connected a short piece of wire coming out of the wall with another wire of the required length.

This is where the article ends. In it we learned how to lengthen a wire (or increase its length) if it breaks in the most inappropriate place.

Modern technologies have led to the fact that today almost every home has Internet access. The World Wide Web has become an integral part of our daily life. The main and most common way to connect to the Internet is through a local network. The computer connects to the Internet using a network cable. There are situations when the cable is not enough to move the computer to Right place. You can read about how to extend your Internet cable in this article.

How to extend the wire: 3 options

It is very inconvenient to use the Internet when you cannot move freely. Many people install network cables to make using the Internet more comfortable. There are several simple ways to extend the cable.

One way to extend the Internet cable is to purchase a special patch cord and a joyner (twisted pair connector).

When purchasing, it is important to pay attention to appearance joyner, since it is very similar to a phone adapter. It will not be difficult to distinguish a twisted pair, since the adapter has 8 contacts, while the telephone adapter has only 7. A computer network card is inserted into the patch cord, and the other end of the cord is connected to the network cable.

Internet cable extension options:

  1. Router. Convenient and reliable option elongation. The router has a couple of sockets to which you can connect a network cable. A router is a “splitter” of the Internet. It allows you not only to extend the cable, but also to connect additional devices to the channel. You can get rid of the cable altogether if you purchase Wi-Fi router.
  2. Purchasing a new cable. The old cable can be replaced with a new one by simply first measuring its length. This method is time-consuming because you will have to call a technician to reconnect. But if we are not talking about a multi-storey building, but about a private one, then the method is quite suitable.
  3. Performing twisting. Masters do not recommend using this method. It involves cutting the cable and then inserting an additional piece of the required length into it. The two pieces need to be connected with electrical tape.

Twisting can lead to short circuits, which will lead to poor connection speed or a complete lack of Internet access. The most reliable and modern way cable extension is to use a router. If you are not sure that the attempt to extend it yourself will be successful, you can always turn to your Internet provider for help.

It often happens that the technician interrupted the wiring while performing repair work. While working with an angle grinder or other tools, some people may accidentally cut the electrical wire laid in the wall. Damage is indicated by sparks, power cuts, or knocked out plugs.

The fact that the wiring is broken is indicated by non-functioning sockets and lack of lighting in the area that is located behind the damaged wiring.

The wires located in the installation box may also break. Often there is not enough length to connect them correctly. It should be noted that experts advise not to repair one wire, but to replace the entire damaged section. Of course, this method is suitable for those who are not afraid of damage finishing materials and ready to make a new renovation.

How to extend an aluminum cable:

  1. Twist the ends of the cable if they are long enough. The twist must be wrapped with electrical tape. This method is the most unreliable, because the twist may break again, which will return the problem.
  2. A special heat-shrinkable tube can be attached to the ends of the wires. This method is suitable for connecting and extending any cable. In order to carry out the plantings correctly, the tube must be heated.
  3. All types of wires (copper and aluminum) can be extended using a block. The ends of the cable must be stripped, and then the block must be selected.
  4. If the wires have broken off, they can be repaired using a coil. It is screwed onto the ends of the wires. After required density will be achieved, you need to insulate the wires.

Extending twisted pair cables does not require special qualifications, and if done correctly can even be reliable. When twisting wires, you need to follow the one level rule and insulate each individual connection. An interesting method is the displacement of joints made by twisting or soldering.

5 ways: how to lengthen the wire in a socket

Sooner or later, everyone is faced with the fact that electrical wiring breaks down. Long term operation of the wiring leads to its damage or broken wires. Wires can get damaged in the most unpredictable places.

Wires often break when connecting sockets (very often this happens with aluminum wires).

You can extend the electrical cable in an apartment or house yourself. To do this, you need to make sure that the conductor cores that are spliced consist of the same material (it can be copper or aluminum). There are five simple ways to help solve the current problem.

Five ways to extend the wire:

  1. Adhesive pads. With their help you can build up and connect electric wires. This method is suitable for connecting conductors with various metal conductors.
  2. Connecting blocks. Their use lengthens the block.
  3. Twisting of veins. The damaged end of the wire must be at least 30 mm, then the splicing will be reliable.
  4. Soldering. For this you will need welding machine. This method is suitable for extending conductors with a large cross-section.
  5. Shells. It's not very convenient way, which takes quite a lot of time.

The twisting method is the most common. It is used to repair headphones, TV, refrigerator, electric stove, etc. When carrying out work yourself, it is important to remember safety precautions.

If the cable is not long enough to place the TV in a convenient place, you can extend it with your own hands. It will be quite difficult to completely replace the cable. Of course, you can use an extension cord, but there are times when this is not possible. There are several basic methods that you can choose based on your personal knowledge and skills.

You can use a TV extension cord, an adapter, or get ready to work with a soldering iron and soldering.

When purchasing an additional television cable, it is important to pay attention to its brand. To connect two cables, you will need plugs, a wrap, and an adapter. It is important that the plugs are correctly sized.

Tips for lengthening:

  • Cut the cable braid lengthwise a few centimeters.
  • Turn the shell back and remove it where the cut begins.
  • Bend the aluminum screen.
  • Screw the wires, which already have plugs on them, to the adapter.

This circuit can be used to extend the cord for a stove, electric kettle, etc. A broken cord can always be repaired. It is advisable to use a terminal to extend the wire. But when performing work, it is important to strictly observe safety precautions. To splice several wires, you must first study the technology of extending wires. You can also extend the power cable yourself; to do this, you need to use an extension technique. So that during repair work If you don't ruin the floor, you can put a sheet on the floor.

Instructions: how to extend an Internet cable (video)

Modern man cannot imagine himself without electronic devices. In everyday life, he uses a computer, TV and other devices that run on electricity. It often happens that a computer or television cable is not convenient enough to use, since its length is short. This introductory article showed how the wire can be extended. It is important to understand that incorrect actions can lead to damage to the devices. Vulture can be increased in several ways - each master can choose one that is convenient for him.

Twisted pair Internet cable has firmly entered our daily life. Like everyone else around us, the cable sometimes breaks down. Typical situation when working with a network cable twisted pair when there are only a few meters left to the connection point, but the cable is literally a couple of meters short, either your pet happily enjoyed the cable from the provider, or the cable can easily be damaged during repairs or simply due to negligence. In such cases, it is necessary to extend or splice the twisted pair cable.

Many services and craftsmen will come to your aid. But this problem It is quite possible to eliminate it yourself, saving time and money. Let's look at 4 ways to extend the Internet cable with your own hands.

Joyner and patch cord detachable connections

This option is simple, accessible to most audiences and does not require special knowledge. To extend the cable length, we simply purchase a patch cord and the necessary special RJ-45 sockets and plugs (joiner). Such computer connectors are sold for a low price in almost any office equipment store.

It is worth recalling that an ordinary telephone adapter and the RJ-45 twisted pair adapter itself are practically indistinguishable in appearance - so be careful not to confuse them. As a rule, a telephone has 7 contacts, but in our case, that is, a computer has 8 when purchasing.

The most significant drawback is special equipment (crimper) for crimping connectors, which is an additional cost. And the contact area is smaller compared to the following methods, and reliability, service life and tightness are not at the highest level.

This technique is widely known in almost all areas where cable is used. The method is available to everyone who confidently holds a knife and electrical tape in their hands, and at the same time provides good reliability. In terms of time, such a build-up may well last the entire service life of the cable itself. Speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s are maintained over sections of up to 100 meters, as well as over entire sections of cable.

Often the twists are made at the same level, and each wire is insulated separately. However, there are more reliable technology wire connections. It is very common among telephone operators, system administrators, installers, etc., people who are often faced with the question of how to extend the Internet cable with their own hands. The basic idea is to connect the cable to different levels to prevent contact between stripped wires.

It is necessary to remove about 10 centimeters of the cable from the outer sheath. There is a split nylon thread inside the cable, so it is enough to make a small cut, find the thread and then use it to remove the sheath. The same procedure must be done with the second piece of cable. The sheath cut along the cable should not be completely cut off; we will use it again when the connection is ready.

We strip each twisted pair wire about one centimeter, not forgetting to make sure that the location of the twists cannot touch each other. Stripping the wires will require patience and accuracy, the main thing is not to trim the copper strands. Also, you should not neglect the folk wisdom “Measure twice, cut once”; it is better to strip the wires gradually after you finish the next twist. If you don’t yet have enough experience in stripping cores from insulation, it makes sense to practice on an unnecessary piece of cable.

Place the two stripped ends of the wire crosswise and twist them with your fingers. It turns out something like a “pigtail”. When connecting copper wires to each other, you must remember that both wires must be twisted together. And it is not permissible for one of the wires to remain straight and the other to be twisted around it. After we have made the twist, bend it in half and press it with pliers to ensure mechanical strength.

It is advisable to insulate each twist with insulating tape for greater reliability and tightness. Next, the wires are laid in the sheath of one of the cables and covered with the second. To give strength and a finished look, we tightly tighten the joint with insulating tape and the work is ready.

Extension and connections of twisted pair cables by soldering

This method is the most reliable, especially for radio mechanics, and is accessible to many. However, you must have experience in soldering. If the location of the planned connection is located far from the power source, for example, the attic of a house or an entrance, and it is not possible to use an extension cord, a mobile soldering iron will come to your aid.

Before splicing twisted pairs by soldering, we prepare the cable in the same way as when splicing twisted pairs by twisting (see above). The only difference is that the wires do not have to be twisted; it will be enough to hold them close to the cable overlap of 5-6 millimeters. Or you can make hooks at the ends of the wire and hook them together for further convenience when soldering.

The soldering process itself requires the performer to be careful, since a heated soldering iron can easily cause damage to adjacent wires.

After soldering, we insulate the wires for greater reliability. Then we place the wires in one of the outer shells, and cover the second one on top. We insulate the joint with insulating tape for greater tightness and a better aesthetic appearance.

The methods discussed can be applied not only to twisted pair Ethernet cables. The same principles of building and extending are suitable for a wide variety of cables, be it stranded or single-core wire with a wide variety of purposes.

Router for extending Internet cable

This method of extension is also quite convenient and practical. Once you connect the router, you can connect to global network unlimited amount laptops, computers, etc. (but still within reasonable limits).

To extend our Internet cable using this method, we will need to purchase the router itself and a crimped twisted pair cable (Internet cable) of the required length. If necessary, you can buy a ready-made crimped piece of such a cable; in some cases, the twisted pair is crimped in a specialized store. But even if not, then you can easily crimp the twisted pair with your own hands.

Now the Internet cable should be connected to the WAN port (Internet port) of the router, and the compressed twisted pair cable should be connected directly to a simple LAN port of the same router and then to your laptop or computer. All that remains is to carry out simple settings on the router, after which you will be able to use the network without any problems as before.

In our age, every apartment, house, and for some, even a dacha, has access to the Internet. Connecting to the World Wide Web has long become the norm and a necessity of life, and now I am writing these lines while sitting at a table in the garden. The main way to connect to the Internet now is local networks provider, which are physically connected to our computer or laptop using a network cable - an eight-core twisted pair cable.

Often a situation arises when the computer needs to be moved to another place, and the network cable may not be enough for this move. How to extend the Internet network cable so that it is enough to reach a new location?

Option one - joyner and patch cord

This method is simple and reliable. To increase the cable length, we simply buy a patch cord (see in the picture) and an RJ-45 twisted pair connector, or joyner. These computer little things are sold in any store, and cost mere pennies - when I bought them quite recently, a joyner cost 22 rubles and a patch cord for three meters cost 60 rubles.

By the way, the telephone adapter and the RJ-45 twisted pair adapter are indistinguishable in appearance - so do not confuse them. A telephone has 7 contacts and a computer has 8 - you can count it just in case.

So, we insert the patch cord into the computer’s network card, and the other end into the joyner to which we connect our network cable - everything works.

Option two - router

This extension option is convenient and no less reliable.
To connect using the second method, we need a router that we connect to the Internet. The router has several sockets for connecting a network cable, and thus is a kind of “splitter” of the Internet. With its help, we will not only extend the cable, but also be able to connect additional devices to the Internet from one channel. If you choose a Wi-Fi router, then you won’t need cables for your computer at all - I recommend it for a laptop that is constantly moved from place to place.

Option three - new cable

Just take a new network cable of the required length and connect it. The option is not entirely convenient, since you need to call the provider’s technician to connect the new cable to the equipment - you wouldn’t climb into the attic to find where your apartment is connected, would you? But this method is suitable for home owners.

Option four - twist

It must be said that extending a network cable by twisting is far from The best decision, and it is better to use the methods indicated above. You simply cut the cable and insert a piece of the required length, insulating the wires by color with electrical tape. Any signalman will point out to you the disadvantage of this connection method, and he will be right - short circuits will inevitably occur in the twisting and the connection speed may suffer.

So use reliable and simple methods - a router or a connection using an RJ-45 adapter, and Internet access will remain the same quality as it was.
