How to change interior doors. Dismantling and replacing interior doors: how the pros do it. The final stage of installation

Sections of the article:

No matter how high-quality and reliable interior door structures are, after time they require replacement. Another cause of wear can be improper use of the doors. Of course, when carrying out complex repairs, quite often workers replace the doors themselves. However, performing budgetary or periodic redecorating The door can be installed on your own. And before replacing an interior door, you should familiarize yourself with all the nuances of this event.

Removing the old door

Of course, to replace an old product with a new one, it is necessary to dismantle the existing canvas. However, it is a mistake to assume that this procedure can be performed in any way, since damage to the opening can significantly complicate subsequent installation. Therefore dismantling old door performed consistently and carefully. So, the main stages of the process are:

  • Removing the canvas;
  • Removal of platbands;
  • Dismantling the box.

Removing the door leaf from its hinges is done by lifting the sash after it has been moved to open position. The remaining elements in the form of platbands, extensions and boxes must be dismantled depending on the principle of their fastening. When securing products with nails and screws, you must first remove them. In the case of fastening using construction adhesive, you cannot do without using a crowbar or chisel.

Preparing the doorway

The principle of preparing a doorway for installation of a new door depends on the type of door leaf chosen. So, if you choose a hinged door (sliding), a mandatory step is to thoroughly plaster the walls in the area of the doorway on the side where the door is hung. In addition, you should take into account the dimensions of the selected product. Quite often it is necessary to expand or reduce the size of the doorway.

Under no circumstances should the expansion procedure be carried out using a hammer. For these purposes, a hammer drill with a special blade-shaped attachment should be used. Expansion is carried out by successively removing small sections of walls to the required level.

Reducing the opening is done by building up the walls using plaster. It should be remembered that it is better to carry out the procedure symmetrically, on both sides of the opening. However, the use of plaster is acceptable for minor differences in dimensions. In other cases, pouring cement or even laying bricks or concrete blocks is used.

It is worth considering that polyurethane foam does not have sufficient strength characteristics to ensure high-quality retention of the door frame. Therefore, using polyurethane foam as a means of narrowing the opening will have a short-term effect. Subsequently, the door structure will hold very weakly and over time may become significantly distorted, even to the point of falling out.

The main thing you should pay attention to when deciding to reduce the passage is the need to subsequently carry large furniture and equipment through it. Do not narrow the gap between living rooms. It is also necessary to take into account the indentations for technological and mounting clearances. In swing type doors they are 70 – 100 mm wide and 50 – 70 mm high.

Assembly of door elements

Since the door leaf is hung on a frame installed in the opening, first of all it is necessary to prepare the door frame for installation. If you choose a swing type door, markings are done along the leaf. The marked beam is sawed off, and it is most convenient to initially prepare the upper part of the frame. The width of the product should exceed the door by 60 mm, as well as by the thickness of both vertical bars. After this they measure out vertical elements. Their height should be more sizes blades 30 - 50 mm.

After cutting everyone out necessary preparations The box is being assembled. Self-tapping screws are used to secure the parts together. At this stage, measurements are also taken for additional elements. To do this, measure the length of special recesses-grooves designed to secure the extensions in them.

During the installation process, it should be taken into account that the horizontal element will be located on top of the vertical ones. In this case, the edges of the part should not deviate from the line external parties vertical additions. The installation of all additional elements is carried out strictly at an angle of 45 degrees relative to the box.

Sliding door installation

Considering the fact that hinged door fixed at a certain height using a special guide rail and roller elements, the fasteners are initially made hanging system. In this case, the guide rail is mounted, strictly focusing on the level. After marking the location for the fasteners, holes are drilled in the wall above the opening. The rail guide is screwed at a given level with self-tapping screws into prepared holes with dowels inserted with them.

Roller mechanisms are attached to the upper end of the door leaf. After this, a test opening and closing of the canvas is required by moving it along the guide rail. After this, the guide rails and roller mechanisms are covered with decorative timber. Rubberized elements are mounted along the edges, performing a restrictive function. Thanks to these elements, the canvas will not fly off the rails during movement.

Swing door installation

Before replacing an interior door, it is necessary to attach hinges in swing-type structures. For a normal one, not weighted down with massive inserts and decorative elements product, two hinge mechanisms will be required. The most suitable distance for their placement is a distance of 200 mm from the bottom and top of the door. In cases where the door is very massive, it is necessary to place additional fasteners.

The installation of hinges has the following sequential stages:

  • Marking the boundaries of placement using a simple pencil;
  • Cutting decorative covering canvases along the marking line using a stationery knife;
  • Preparing the recess for the hinge mechanism. To do this, use a chisel or an electric milling cutter;
  • Treatment of the finished recess with nitro varnish. To provide high-quality coating 3 layers must be applied;
  • Screwing the hinges with self-tapping screws. When using wood screws as fasteners, it is necessary to pre-drill holes for them.

Frame installation

Before interior doors are installed, work is done to secure the frame to the doorway. This procedure is not particularly difficult and its detailed execution can be clearly seen in almost any video of door installation.

The frame is placed in such a way that there is no protrusion from any side. After this, 3 holes are made in it on each side for fastenings. After adjusting the vertical parts to the level, drilling into the wall is carried out through the prepared holes. This prepares the holes for fastening.

The procedure for securing the frame itself is carried out by placing dowels or glazing beads in the holes and fixing the box with screws or self-tapping screws.

Door leaf installation

Work is carried out after the frame is securely fastened in the passage. However, before hanging the product, it is important to increase the reliability of the structure. To do this, the remaining gaps between the frame and the wall are blown out using polyurethane foam. In this case, it is necessary to place special spacers in the box, which will avoid damage and distortion of the structure when the foam expands.

The sash is hung from the position open door. To do this, the product is lifted above the counter pin in the frame and placed on it. If necessary, the position of the door relative to the floor and walls is adjusted by tightening the fastening elements of the hinges. After this, the product is checked several times for correct placement by opening and closing.

The final stage of installation of a new interior door is the installation of platbands. After marking the decorative strip, it is cut using circular saw or a fine-toothed hacksaw. The upper sections are cut at an acute angle of 45 degrees. After the fitting procedure, the planks are installed. To fasten them, use construction adhesive or finishing nails. It is also permissible to use self-tapping screws and then disguise them with decorative plugs to match the trim. After reading our instructions, you will now easily understand how to easily change interior doors yourself and avoid mistakes.

Replacing doors is quite a troublesome task. The entire installation process consists of step-by-step actions, as a result of which the work will be done efficiently. Having decided to install the door yourself, you need to realize that it will take time and effort to implement your plan. However, if you follow certain rules, you will do it relatively quickly and efficiently, and your family will be happy with the results of your work. New door It will decorate your interior and add coziness to your home.

Correct door installation. It should be noted that replacement on your own involves several stages. After selection, execute installation work, adhering to a certain order.

Necessary requirements for finishing of premises

Selecting doors and components

On construction market range door designs wide enough. Manufacturers offer models made from various materials. Most often you can use fiberboard, MDF and natural wood.

  1. Door frame made of Wooden fibreboard, it is sheathed with laminated fiberboard. The advantages of such a product are: affordable price and lightness, which allows for effortless delivery and installation. The only disadvantage of such a design for a doorway is the fragility of the slab itself, as well as poor resistance to moisture. Doors made of fiberboard are recommended for installation in rooms with low humidity.
  1. Doors made from finely dispersed fraction (MDF) are more durable and moisture resistant. In addition, they are soundproofed, and the quality of the slab corresponds to the cost.
  1. The most durable and reliable structures made from natural wood. The cost of such interior doors depends on the wood from which they are made. Canvases from valuable species wood is great for rooms with a sophisticated interior.

In addition to the most popular models, there are doors made of solid glass, metal-plastic and steel. Regardless of the material, the width of the interior door must correspond to the size of the doorway.

How durable the door frame is determines how long it will last installed structure. Door frames are:

  • made of fiberboard (look aesthetically pleasing, but not too durable);
  • from wood that could not be processed (high-strength dry timber);
  • made of wood laminated with paper (the quality of the lamination plays an important role).

When purchasing doors, you need to make sure that the necessary fittings are available ( door hinges, locks, etc.), as well as select components. You also need to take care of purchasing door handles. , and also choose high-quality awnings for interior doors.

Some models are supplied with a box. This is convenient because the manufacturer puts markings for the hinges taking into account the size of the door leaf. However, you can make the box yourself. In fact, a structure in the shape of the letter “P” is constructed from timber (two posts and a cross member). The only thing you need to take into account: the thickness of the timber for the box should be equal to the thickness of the canvas.

In most cases, the width of the door leaf is 60 centimeters, but sometimes it is required narrow doors, their width is no more than 40 cm. Often narrow interior doors are installed:

  • in bathrooms (toilet, bath);
  • in utility rooms and storerooms;
  • in the kitchen.

Necessary equipment

In order for the work to be of high quality and the replacement of old doors to be carried out successfully, you need to ensure that you have special tools. They can be bought or rented. From electric tools you will need:

  • a circular saw,
  • drill-driver,
  • miter saw,
  • hammer drill,
  • electric router.

Hand-held tools such as chisels different sizes, hammer, screwdrivers, tape measure, level, hacksaw, as well as a hand router for inserting a lock.

You will also need items such as screws, nails and foam for installation.

Dismantling

When you need to replace an interior door in an apartment, you must first dismantle the old one. To do this, do the following:

  1. the fabric is removed from the loops;
  2. the cash is removed (the plugs on the screws are removed; the screws are unscrewed with a screwdriver);
  3. dismantle the door frame (unscrew the fasteners, cut off the foam, remove the frame from the opening, disassemble it on a flat surface).

Installation of racks

The installation of the door frame requires special attention when installing the door. . They begin to install it from vertical racks. For this miter saw cut the top of the post at an angle of 45°. This can be done with a hacksaw or a miter box. Then we measure the length of the stand with inside(the gap at the top should be 0.4 cm, and at the bottom – 1 cm + the height of the door leaf). We perform similar actions with the second rack. Then we make the cross member. Again, from the inside we measure the required length of the lintel (taking into account the gap on both sides of 0.4 cm and the width of the door leaf). After this, you need to strengthen the doorway with self-tapping screws.

Fastening the hinges

At the stage of installing door hinges, care is also required. When making calculations, you need to make accurate measurements from the top and bottom edge of the door leaf, and also determine the seating depth of the hinges. On the inside of the stand, measure 20 cm from the top edge of the canvas, attach a loop, the contours of which we outline with a pencil. The gap from the canvas to the edge of the stand when the loop is folded should be 0.4 cm. The installation depth depends on the thickness of the loop. Using a hand router or chisel, we prepare a place for planting the lower loop. Its installation differs only in the gap, which is 1 cm at the bottom. After the hinges are attached, we attach the stand to the canvas and mark the places for the hinges. Then we prepare the seats for the hinges on the door leaf in the same way as on the door post.

Box installation

Installation of the box provides the following:

  1. we attach the vertical posts perpendicularly to the horizontal crossbar;
  2. we install the door frame in the opening and strengthen it with spacers;
  3. level the box and secure it with self-tapping screws;
  4. install the hinges and hang the canvas on them to check how the door opens (the hung door should not spring);
  5. we eliminate possible flaws;
  6. We fill the cracks with polyurethane foam, after it dries, we remove the spacers;
  7. after this the opening should be cashed.

That's all a novice master needs to know about installing a door. Installing new or replacing interior doors with your own hands will allow you to save money and enjoy the results of your work.

If you accidentally kicked interior door leaf, then you should get something similar to the photo below. It turned out very neatly. A precisely calculated blow under door handle, broke the latch and opened the door.

I would like to add that the door frame was not damaged and withstood the blow with honor. And this despite the fact that it was fixed only by polyurethane foam. No additional fastening was used. This relates to the question of “whether it is necessary to additionally attach the door frame to the doorway.”
The box is fine, but door leaf needs to be replaced. Canvas width 80 cm.

Where to start replacing the door leaf

First we remove the crippled canvas from the door frame. We take a new canvas and make markings for the loops. The hinges were mortise, not overhead. Therefore, you will have to work with a chisel. We remove the distance of the loops from the old canvas and transfer it to the new one. Usually the loops are placed 20 cm from the edge of the canvas, but it would be worth checking.
Unfortunately, I did not find among my tools the template that I used to cut out the grooves for hinges using by hand. milling machine. Lately, overhead loops have been increasingly used. They do not require insertion and are a pleasure to work with.

We make the markings and get to work. The canvas is painted, so first remove the top thin layer paints, and then we go deeper. The end of the door is made of pressed sawdust, so it is easy to work with a chisel. You can even do without a hammer.

Having made the grooves for the hinges, we move on to inserting the handle. We transfer the distance from the previous blade in the same way, otherwise the latch will not coincide with the strike plate. Having made markings for the handle, we cut it out with a crown big hole for the mechanism. Next we take a 23 mm feather drill. and cut a hole in the end of the door for the latch.

The latch bar must be flush. For ease of marking, turn the bar over and trace it with a pencil. Select the resulting rectangle with a chisel and check the position of the latch.

Screw the loops to door leaf and carry the canvas to door frame. Using wedges, we align the canvas so that the hinges on it coincide with the grooves on the door frame. Since the screws will have to be screwed into the box a second time, it would be better to seal the holes a little. I use matches or toothpicks. Just insert a toothpick into the hole and break it off. Having thus sealed all eight holes for the two hinges, screw the hinges to the box. If you have made the markings accurately, then the loops on the canvas will clearly coincide with the mounting location on the box.

Close the door and check the gaps. And then a surprise awaits us. The door fits too tightly to the frame post on which the latch striker is located. Why did it happen? We measure the width of both door leaves and compare. This is true. New blade 2 mm. wider than before.

In order to slightly increase the gap, it is necessary to recess the counter plate and make it “flush” with the plane of the box. If this does not help, more serious measures will have to be taken. For example, you can remove 2-3 mm from the opposite end of the door, where the hinges are. using a manual milling machine. The end will have to be painted over. The same can be done with the upper end, if suddenly, when cutting and assembling the box, you made a mistake by making it shorter than necessary. By using hand router you can easily and most importantly, very accurately and efficiently remove a few millimeters. Nobody will notice.

IN in this case this wasn't necessary. The measures to recess the striker plate turned out to be sufficient. The door closes and opens perfectly. Let's move on to the next stage.
