People often say, "If there were no wine, we wouldn't be drunkards." Aren't they insane?! They themselves sin, but the gift of God is to blame?! Is wine the cause of all evil?! Of course not! The cause of these evils is intemperance, the abuse of wine. It’s better to say: “If there were no drunkenness, then ...” You can also say: “It would be better if there were no iron, because there are murderers; if there were no night, there would be no thieves, etc.” So you want to destroy and destroy everything. And all because it is not wine that should be despised, but dependence on it. This is a satanic spirit.

Icon from drunkenness "Inexhaustible cup"

Among all the anafixes of the Mother of God, the face of the "Inexhaustible Chalice" is the most relevant. This image depicts the Mother of God with her hands raised up. In front of the Mother of God is a large bowl in which the Divine Infant is depicted in the same position. Prayer to the Mother of God is able to save a believer from different bowls:

  • tempting bowl;
  • cups ruining the family;
  • cups ruining fate;
  • destroying the human personality.

Prayer for drunkenness to the icon "Inexhaustible Chalice" helps from various vicious addictions: from alcoholism, from smoking or drug addiction. According to many reviews of believers, it is known that a strong prayer for drunkenness can cure not only vicious diseases, but also change the spiritual world and personality of a person to a virtuous and Christian path. For example, a husband who has fallen from drunkenness after a sincere prayer will rise and begin to live a full life.

Prayer "Inexhaustible Cup" from drunkenness helps:

  1. When the patient refuses to be treated and does not recognize alcohol addiction in any way. In such a situation, you can even carry out the ceremony without the knowledge of the alcoholic;
  2. Suitable for true believers, for people who pray every day. So you can cure your son, husband, brother, mother, even yourself and other relatives from drunkenness;
  3. When publicity of registration with the narcologist of the patient is not allowed. This is possible with some professions. A visit to a narcologist in some cases may contribute to problems with work;
  4. With financial problems or limited opportunities. And prayer for a husband’s alcoholism does not require financial expenses, when treatment in specialized clinics is quite expensive;
  5. Prayer can also be used as an additional treatment. After all, it is able to maintain a state of mind, as well as give a person confidence that he made the right decision by quitting drinking alcohol.

Who can ask for help from the Mother of God

In modern realities, most often the wife asks for healing for her husband. But there are times when children ask for help from their mother's drunkenness, a sister for a brother, a mother for a son, and so on. It is important to understand that it does not matter at all who asks the Virgin for help. The main thing is that you believe in it and ask it from the bottom of your heart.

Oh, merciful Mother of God, touch their hearts and soon restore them from sinful falls, bring them to saving abstinence.

The Orthodox Church has always had a negative attitude towards excesses that destroy the spirit and body. Therefore, the holy men helped the suffering, who asked for help for healing. Why is the sobriety of parishioners so important to clergy? The human body is the vessel of the soul. Clouding the mind with alcohol and destroying the body, the patient committed the sin of desecrating the sacred.

The dead, dying from drunkenness, were considered "mortgaged", that is, who had gone into another world in an unnatural way. Such bodies were buried without accompanying prayers, far from ordinary citizens, among the graves:

  • suicides;
  • sorcerers;
  • drowned;
  • unbaptized children.

The problem of drunkenness has always been relevant, but with the advent of strong alcohol in drinking establishments, it began to gain more momentum. The “finishing” period was characterized by the high cost of wine, so not everyone could afford such an excess. Vodka has become a godsend for manufacturers and merchants: the minimum number of components and efforts, but the quick effect of drinking and the body getting used to the poison.

Ethanol is the main ingredient in all alcoholic beverages. Getting into the human body, the substance rebuilds the work of all organs and systems for itself. After some time, the patient can no longer physically and morally exist without another portion of the poison. A short-term refusal of a dose provokes an abstinence syndrome, reminiscent of the “withdrawal” of a drug addict.

The Orthodox Church has always had a negative attitude towards excesses.

History of appearance

Among the heavenly patrons of the Orthodox, a special place is occupied by the Mother of God, who is often depicted with the Son. She is an intermediary between the world of people and higher powers. Therefore, believers at all times turned their prayers to the icons of the good patroness.

The history of the appearance of faith in the miraculous power of the "Inexhaustible Chalice" begins in the 70s of the XIX century. In the Tula province, there lived a former military man who became addicted to alcohol. The drunkenness was so strong and hopeless that he drank away the last property and began to beg. After another drinking bout, the peasant's legs were paralyzed, but this did not become a sign for the stubborn - he continued to flood his eyes every day.

Once, in a dream, the poor fellow saw a white-bearded old man who, by order of command, advised him to go to the Serpukhov Monastery of the Lady of the Mother of God. In this place was the icon "Inexhaustible Chalice", in front of which it was necessary to serve a prayer service. The man did not have the funds to travel, so he decided to ignore the message from heaven. The dream was repeated three times and the cripple set off on a long journey.

Thanks to his own willpower and the help of ordinary people, the former military man reached Serpukhov. In the monastery, a man asked to say a prayer in front of the icon "Inexhaustible Chalice" for his recovery. The nuns were surprised because they had not heard of such an image. After a long search, they found the face of the Mother of God, with a signed name on the reverse side. Not far from her hung the image of an old man who had dreamed of a cripple. It was Reverend Varlaam.

Prayer in front of the icon "Inexhaustible Chalice" helped the former military man to his feet and cured him of drunkenness. The news of the miracle quickly spread throughout the Russian Empire. A crowd of women poured into the monastery, wishing to rid their husbands or sons of the addiction.

Turning prayer to the image, a person finds a merciful helper

The icon "Inexhaustible Chalice" according to the style of writing refers to the manner of "Oranta": the Mother of God with her hands raised up, and in front of her is a vessel with the Son. The clergy explain that the presented container is an eternal source of comfort and joy. Turning prayer to the image, a person finds a merciful helper.

After the miraculous discovery of the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon, the craftsmen made hundreds of lists (exact copies) that they sent to everyone. Now, in almost every church, those who are thirsty acquire the image of the Mother of God with the Son to get rid of alcoholism.

How it works

A modern person, especially one brought up in the spirit of atheism, does not understand how to get rid of drunkenness by praying to the Inexhaustible Chalice icon. In the technological age, such techniques seem wild and ancient. But this is not the first year before the image they ask for husbands and sons dying from alcoholism.

If in prayer you ask not for yourself, but for another person, then such a request will be heard. Desperate relatives do not know how else to save alcoholics from drinking. A feature of addiction is the lack of critical thinking - patients think that they have no problems and refuse to be treated. In domestic laws there is no article providing for therapy without the consent of a drunkard.

Having tried all the methods, people resort to the latest - faith. The clergy claim that by uttering the words of prayer from a pure heart, a person receives from the Mother of God intercession before the Son and healing from drunkenness. In ancient times, when there were no psychologists and psychiatrists, priests played the role of healers of souls. Turning to higher powers as the last resort, people gained confidence in their own actions. In order not to give up treatment halfway through, prayers were said for help to the Mother of God and her Son.

“Oh, Most Merciful Lady! Now we resort to Your intercession, do not despise our prayers, but graciously hear us: wives, children, mothers and a serious illness of drunkenness obsessed, and for this sake from your mother - the Church of Christ and the salvation of those who fall away, brothers and sisters, and heal our relatives. Oh, Merciful Mother of God, touch their hearts and soon restore them from sinful falls, bring them to saving abstinence. Beg your Son, Christ our God, to forgive us our sins and not turn away His mercy from His people, but strengthen us in sobriety and chastity. Accept, Most Holy Theotokos, the prayers of mothers, shedding tears for their children, wives, weeping for their husbands, children, orphans and the poor, left astray, and all of us, falling to Your icon. And may this cry of ours come, by Thy prayers, to the Throne of the Most High. Cover and keep us from crafty trapping and all the machinations of the enemy, in the terrible hour of our exodus, help us to go through unswervingly air ordeals, with Your prayers deliver us eternal condemnation, may God's mercy cover us in endless ages of ages. Amen".

Getting rid of drunkenness with a prayer to the icon "The Inexhaustible Chalice" is an ancient method known since the end of the 19th century. There are many ways to treat alcoholism, but with an integrated approach and armed with faith, it will be possible to achieve positive results.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos before the icon "Inexhaustible Chalice" from drunkenness

Icon of the Blessed Virgin "Inexhaustible Thicket"

Icon of the Mother of God "Inexhaustible Chalice". History reference

The icon of the Mother of God "The Inexhaustible Chalice" according to iconography belongs to the type "Oranta" - the Mother of God is depicted with her hands raised up, in front of Her is the Divine Infant standing in the bowl. This is the Chalice of Communion - an inexhaustible source of spiritual joy and comfort. The Most Holy Theotokos prays for all sinners and proclaims that the Inexhaustible Chalice of heavenly help and mercy is prepared for every suffering person.

The appearance of this icon was preceded by an unusual incident that occurred in 1878 (*) in the Tula province. A retired soldier was obsessed with a passion for drunkenness. He drank everything he had and soon became a beggar. From the abuse of alcohol, his legs were paralyzed, but this did not stop him and he continued to drink. Once, in a dream, a former soldier, and now a peasant, saw an old man who ordered him to go to the city of Serpukhov to the monastery of the Lady of the Mother of God, where the icon of the Mother of God "Inexhaustible Chalice" was located, and serve a prayer service in front of her. Not having a penny, with legs weary, the peasant could not set off. But the holy elder appeared to him for the second and third time and sternly commanded him to do what he had said. On all fours, a retired soldier went to Serpukhov. In one of the villages that lay on the way, he stopped to rest. To alleviate the pain and suffering of the traveler, the old hostess rubbed his legs and laid him on the stove. The next day, the soldier felt better, but the hostess left him for one more night, again rubbing his sore legs. Leaning on two, and then on one stick, the peasant slowly reached Serpukhov.

In the Vladychny Monastery, he spoke about his wondrous dreams and asked to serve a moleben before the icon of the Mother of God "The Inexhaustible Chalice". But his request confused the inhabitants of the monastery: no one in the monastery knew such an icon. Only after some time they found the icon hanging in the passage from the temple to the sacristy. On the reverse side of it was the inscription "The Inexhaustible Chalice"... In the face of the disciple of St. Alexis, the Monk Varlaam, the peasant immediately recognized the holy elder who appeared to him in a dream. The retired soldier returned home from Serpukhov already free from his pernicious passion.

The news of the miraculous icon quickly spread throughout Russia. People suffering from drunkenness, their relatives and friends hastened to offer prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos for healing from illness, many came later to thank the Lady for Her great mercy.

The miraculous icon "The Inexhaustible Chalice" was in the Vladychny Monastery until 1919, and after its closing - in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas Bely on Kaluzhskaya Street. The further fate of the icon is unknown.

In 1993, in the Serpukhov Vysotsky Monastery, and in 1995, in the revived Vladychny Monastery, copies of the miraculous icon were made, while maintaining all the proportions and academic style characteristic of the original. All this was the beginning of the revival of the veneration of the miraculous icon after many years of theomachism.

People come from all over Russia and other countries to bow to the icon of the Mother of God "The Inexhaustible Chalice". The miraculous icon is famous for the speedy healing of those suffering from the ailments of drug addiction, alcoholism and smoking. It has been noticed that the icon not only heals, but also helps to change the way of life of a person, leads him to the realization of his sins, repentance, returns to a pious life.

Unfortunately, the day on which the icon was revealed is not exactly known. In the 19th century, the celebration in honor of the icon "Inexhaustible Chalice" took place on November 27 - on the same day as the icon of the Mother of God "The Sign", since both of these icons are similar in iconography.

At the end of the 20th century, after the restoration of the veneration of the "Inexhaustible Chalice" icon, its celebration was timed to coincide with the day of the repose of the Monk Varlaam of Serpukhov - May 5, since the appearance of the miraculous icon occurred through the intercession of this saint. In 1997, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II, it was established to celebrate the church-wide celebration of the icon of the Mother of God "The Inexhaustible Chalice" on May 5th.

From the Akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos
in honor of the icon of Her "Inexhaustible Chalice"

The remarkable everyday writer of Russian piety Ivan Sergeevich Shmelev tells the following about the miraculous icon of the Mother of God “The Inexhaustible Chalice”, which appeared in 1878 on Serpukhov land, in the Vladychny Monastery:

“... Peasant carts are dragging along the forest roads to the monastery. And for hundreds of miles, exhausted women bring their loved ones here - raging, screaming in wild voices and torn from under the ropes by men of an animal form. Helps from a drunken disease "Inexhaustible Chalice". Those who have lost their human form look at the indescribable face with distraught eyes, not understanding what and who This One is, gazing brightly with a golden cup, joyful and enticing, and calm down. And when quiet girls, in white kerchiefs, carry Her, following the “throne”, and sing with joyful voices, thousands of sick souls fall under Her on the dirty ground, seeking joyful consolation. Unseeing, inflamed eyes stare wildly at the bright face and frantically shout the prompted, requested: “I swear!” They fight and shout with cursing whoops, tear shirts ... and frenziedly glare into the eyes that entail. Brides come and hang pink ribbons - a guarantee of happiness. Young women bring their first-born, and “Inexhaustible” joyfully looks at them. What attracts to Her - no one will say: they have not yet found the words to say their inner. I can only feel that the joyful descends into the soul.

In his wonderful story under the same name, Shmelev conveyed one of the legends about the icon "The Inexhaustible Chalice", according to which a certain serf master Ilya painted this image. The true story is silent about this, although the miraculous owes its current fame most of all to this story - and most importantly, to heal from a drunken illness with its undoubted grace-filled power.

In our troubled times, as well as more than a century ago, hundreds and thousands of those seeking healing come to the city of Serpukhov near Moscow. More precious than the most precious salaries are those offerings of Christians delivered from drunken obsession, their children and households, with which the entire foot of the miraculous image is covered. Its grace-filled power does not dry out; pilgrims are now spreading healing oil from the lamps in front of the “Inexhaustible Chalice” and water consecrated at deliberate prayers all over Russia.

From time immemorial, monastic cloisters have been a fount of that mysterious and truly sacred silence, which every suffering Christian soul has always wanted to listen to and feed on. Such was the Serpukhov Vladyka Vvedensky monastery, founded in 1360 on the then outskirts of the Moscow principality, at the confluence of the pensive Nara and the bright Oka, called the Belt of the Virgin, for this river separated and protected Holy Russia from the wild Steppe, in the middle of the “pine grove and red mansion forest ". From the first days of its existence, invisible streams of grace flowed from here. Founded as a male monastery under the abbess of the Monk Varlaam, a former cell-attendant of the Saint of Moscow and miracle worker Metropolitan Alexy, this monastery was also nourished by the Monk Sergius of Radonezh. The chronicles tell how the great Abbot of the Russian land came here at the beginning of the winter of 1374, together with his disciple, the Monk Athanasius, and prayed in the white-stone cathedral of the Vladychny Monastery. The legend about the founding of the monastery has preserved for us the memory of the miraculous appearance of the Most Pure Saint Barlaam: “The vision showed the builder that even the Angels would help him in the work of building the temple and guard the monastery, that in this temple the Lady of Heaven Herself would remain in the same way as she had once been in the Temple of Jerusalem."

And after several centuries this promise came true in its entirety.

By the end of the 18th century, the men's monastery of the Vladychny Monastery was declining and desolated. Divine services almost completely stopped, the small brethren dispersed, churches fell into desolation. However, Metropolitan Platon (Levshin) of Moscow, under whose care the spiritual flowering of the great Optina and many other monasteries began, did not leave the Vladychny Monastery, near which he spent his childhood, with his care. The Metropolitan obtained permission from Emperor Alexander I to revive this monastery as a maiden one, and in 1806 the first nuns appeared here. A quarter of a century later, another archpastor, St. Philaret of Moscow, established the ancient strict rules of a desert community in the Vladyka monastery, thereby restoring the spirit of monastic non-acquisition here and providing providentially preparing this monastery for receiving such a blessed shrine as the “Inexhaustible Chalice”.

The old soldier crawled to the monastery on all fours. On the very first night, he felt that his legs again began to obey him.

In the first year of Mother Mary's abbess, namely in 1878, a peasant of the Tula province, a retired soldier who had an inescapable weakness for wine, had a vision of a certain old man who ordered him to go to Serpukhov, find the icon "The Inexhaustible Chalice" there and serve a prayer service before it. An old soldier who had become debilitated from immoderate drinking, without a penny in his pocket, did not have the strength to get to the monastery. Then the vision happened twice more, and the old soldier, longing for deliverance from the disease, crawled to the monastery on all fours. On the very first night of his ascetic journey, he suddenly felt that his legs again began to obey him.

When he reached the monastery, he brought into great difficulty its nuns, who did not know about the icon with that name. Then they suddenly remembered the image hanging in one of the monastery passages, on which the Infant Christ blessed the worshipers, as if proceeding from the sacrament Chalice; behind Him, the Mother of God raised Her Most Pure Hands, as they write Her on the icons of the Sign. And what was the surprise of everyone when on the back of this hitherto unknown icon they really saw the inscription “Inexhaustible Chalice”! It is also significant that the traveler, brought to the shrine of the Monk Varlaam, immediately recognized in him that magnificent old man who ordered him to go to the Lady for healing from a cursed illness. The news of the miraculous phenomenon quickly spread throughout the cities and towns, from everywhere they began to come to the wondrous image, possessed by drunken passion, fell to the "Inexhaustible Chalice" - and easily threw destructive wine, brought peace and quiet into their homes, and all this - with the prayers of the Intercessor of the clan human.

The legend of this miraculous image of Her explains that the Inexhaustible, or Inexhaustible, Chalice is, according to the words of the akathist, a Chalice that draws joy, an inexhaustible source of comfort, healing, life and various spiritual blessings and gifts. And everyone will see the hidden spiritual meaning in the fact that the icon "Inexhaustible Chalice" has become a source of saving hopes and healings from the evil passion of drinking wine: the Mother of God prays for all sinners, she sees, the Merciful, and the suffering of those who indulge in drunkenness, knows how sincerely many of them long to get rid of this cruel vice, but do not find the strength to fight. Here, the Most Pure One with Her holy icon “The Inexhaustible Chalice” reminds them that She is an inexhaustible well of grace and spiritual joy, which She pours heavenly delight into tortured hearts from Her never-failing Chalice, having drunk which, they will hate that destructive moisture, which before was so irresistible attracted the unfortunate.

Such sufferers should, at any place and at any time, resort to the all-powerful intercession of the Most Pure One, making it a rule to read to Her an angelic greeting at least three times a day: “Virgin Mother of God, rejoice.” And no matter how deep-rooted the accursed passion of drinking wine, it cannot resist the heavenly help of the Mother of God.

Troparion, tone 4

Today, faithful, faithful, to the Divine and marvelous image of the Most Holy Mother of God, who gives the faithful hearts to drink with the heavenly Inexhaustible Chalice of Her mercy and shows miracles to the faithful people. Seeing and hearing, we spiritually celebrate and cry warmly: Gracious Lady, heal our ailments and passions, praying to Your Son, Christ our God, to save our souls. Amen.

Prayer

O Merciful Lady! Now we resort to Your intercession, do not despise our prayers, but graciously hear us: wives, children, mothers - and a serious illness of drunkenness of the possessed, and for that sake from our mother, the Church of Christ, and the salvation of our falling away brothers and sisters.

O Merciful Mother of God, touch their hearts and soon restore them from sinful falls, bring them to saving abstinence. Beg your Son, Christ our God, to forgive us our sins and not turn away His mercy from His people, but strengthen us in sobriety and chastity. Accept

Most Holy Theotokos, prayers of mothers, for their children shedding tears, wives, for their husbands weeping, children, orphans and the poor, left astray, and all of us, who do not fall to Your icon. And may this cry of ours come, through Thy prayers, to the Throne of the Most High. Cover and keep us from crafty trapping and all the machinations of the enemy, in the terrible hour of our exodus, help us to go through the airy ordeals without fail, with Your prayers deliver us from eternal condemnation, may God's mercy cover us forever and ever. Amen.

Alcohol today harms not only the drinker, but also the people around him. At the same time, it becomes more and more difficult to overcome alcohol addiction each time, since modern methods are not able to completely cure an alcoholic. For example, a well-known one will help a person only if the alcoholic himself wishes it - if not, close drunkards will “throw away” the money and time spent on treatment.

As practice shows, people who drink are not able to understand the seriousness of their own condition: they do not control their behavior, are not able to solve their own problems, and also cannot stand up for themselves. To save a drunkard from alcoholism, narcologists advise asking for help from the saints, since church rituals allow an alcoholic to overcome his addiction forever. Why is prayer for drunkenness the best help in the fight against alcoholism? The fact is that prayers and other conspiracies inspire a person to believe in themselves, and also support him during treatment. If the text of the rituals is read by a close alcoholic, the drunkard feels support and tries to get rid of the addiction himself.

Prayers against drunkenness

Today, many prayers are known, each of which has its own effect on a person and cures him of a terrible disease. Such prayers force the alcoholic to “encode” his energy resource, as a result of which the craving for alcohol is significantly weakened. Of course, some do not believe in the action of rituals, but others with severe alcoholism in a person have to try any way to get rid of this bad habit. So that the alcoholic does not drink, they are ready to ask for help from anyone, if only it would help get rid of the addiction.

It is reported that if the prayers in front of the icon are read correctly, and the close drunkard says the sacred ritual sincerely and from the bottom of his heart, this will certainly help to overcome alcoholism.

Today, prayer to the icon depends on the saint who is located on it. For example, such saints can get rid of drunkenness:

  • Moses Murin;
  • icon of the Mother of God "Inexhaustible Chalice";
  • Nicholas the Wonderworker;
  • prayers to the Holy Mother of God;
  • Matronushka.

Reading numerous reviews of people who have overcome alcoholism, it is possible to understand that the prayer of the Inexhaustible Chalice from drunkenness is considered the fastest and most effective.

It is allowed to read such a ritual not only to an alcoholic, but also to a person close to him, who also suffer from this addiction. This conspiracy helped a single generation to get rid of hard drinking, restore vitality and accept new spiritual values.

Sinful people and inveterate drunkards are allowed to pray to the icon of the Mother of God, as it helps everyone to overcome this terrible disease. To quickly get out of a binge, it is recommended to read a prayer several times a day - while it is important to be sincere and kind towards the drunkard. You should not insult him or raise your voice at a person, because it should become clear to the Mother of God that your desire to overcome addiction in a loved one comes from the bottom of your heart.

Persistence to the repeated reading of a prayer will not go unnoticed, and the sacred ritual will help overcome addiction in a short time.

The action of the prayer to the Mother of God becomes noticeably "sharp" - the alcoholic suddenly takes up his mind and stops taking strong drinks. However, to consolidate such a result, a person who asked for help from the icon of the Inexhaustible Chalice must pronounce sacred words for another 40 days.

Prayers to this icon are considered especially strong for a sister, brother, daughter or son who are unable to cope with alcoholism on their own. It is recommended to read the text of the conspiracy in the morning, when still in the house.

To give an alcoholic a chance to restore his former life, the whole family should pray for him. At the same time, it is important to address only one icon and, accordingly, one saint.

People pray to the icon of the Inexhaustible Chalice so that the alcoholic does not know about it - then he will not specially play along and pretend to be a teetotaler. After all, it is much better when a person himself understands that he was able to stop drinking, and not when he was forced to. To strengthen the result, after the sacred ritual, the drunkard should be given healing water, which will be obtained during the appeal to the saint.

The sequence of reading a prayer at home

In order for a prayer service to help a person stop drinking alcohol, it is important to read it correctly:

  • the first step is to prepare 1 candle bought on Thursday;
  • then it must be installed next to the icon of the Inexhaustible Chalice;
  • a small bowl with water is installed under the icon, which then needs to be poured into the drinks of an alcoholic (this applies only to non-alcoholic products);
  • the text of the ritual should be pronounced in the dark 2 times;
  • it is important to memorize a prayer, since the saints do not accept reading it from a piece of paper;
  • after reading, you need to pray for the alcoholic, and also ask God for forgiveness for your relative, and also mention his sins, because of which Jesus should have mercy on him.

In order for the ritual to work accurately, it is important for the person asking for help to repent, take communion and trust the Mother of God.

To consolidate the petition and the absence of rejection of his words, the worshiper should repeat the prayer every 40 days and attend church for sacred rituals.

In order for the icon of the Inexhaustible Chalice to definitely help, first the reader of the prayer must repent of his own sins.

Today, Father is allowed to ask for help from the Mother of God to any relative, because the main thing is that the conspiracy is read from the heart, sincerely and frankly. After reading the ritual of the Inexhaustible Chalice, it is also not forbidden to ask for help from other saints, which include Matronushka, the martyr Boniface, John of Kronstadt, and so on.
